 This lens provides correction only for a given distance.
This means that the optical power is the same at every
point on the lens’s surface.

4. BIFOCAL LENSES
 Bifocal lenses combine vision correction for near-
sightedness and far-sightedness.
 The top of the lens is for distance viewing and the bottom
half is for near.
There are several types of bifocal :-
K-Bifocal
D-bifocal
E-Bifocal.

 suitable for hypermetropic patients.

6. TRIFOCAL LENS
 Trifocals are eyeglasses with lenses that have three regions
which correct for distance, intermediate (arm's length),
and near vision.
 Trifocals are mostly used by people with advanced
presbyopia who have been prescribed 2 dioptres or more of
reading addition.

 It is also called Columbia Resin or Allyl Diglycol carbonate.
It is 39th Formula of thermosetting plastic.
 Developed in 1940.
 Refractive index 1.49 Abbe Value 58

16. POLYCARBONATE
 Good choice for rimless eyeglasses, Children eyewear and
Sports activities. More Light weight, 10 time tougher than

 It was developed in 1980s.
 Disadvantage:-High chromatic aberration, Poor optical
qualities, transparency is less and expensive then CR.

20. PHOTOCHROMATIC LENSE
 Photochromic lenses are optical lenses that darken on
exposure to specific types of light of sufficient intensity,
most commonly ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
 Photochromic lenses may be made of glass, polycarbonate
or Plastic. (Material SILVER HALIDE)
 They are principally used in eyeglasses that are dark in
bright sunlight, but clear in low ambient light conditions.

 It is made by heating and stretching thin sheet of PVA(Poly
vinyl alcohol)

 Blue violet rays is harmful for our eyes .Can cause
ARMD(Age Related Macular Degeneration). Good blue
lens is usefull for us . So you can advice to customer to use
Blue filter lens not Blue cut lenses.
