Granny Weatherall Overcomes Hard Times in The Jilting of Granny Weatherall
In the short story, The Jilting of Granny Weatherall, an older woman is having flashbacks
of her life, while she is slowly dying. Throughout her life, this woman, Granny
Weatherall, has had many life altering experiences. With these experiences, she has
become the strong woman that we have become to know.
With a name like Weatherall, one can only imagine what she has been though. Forty
years earlier, Granny Weatherall became ill from not only milk leg but also double
pneumonia, which she recuperated from. Granny Weatherall also had a tough time when
her youngest and most favorable child died. Her daughter, Hapsy, passed away while
giving birth to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first she begins to see her first love, George, when he is a young man. He is about
the age he was when he and Granny Weatherall were going to get married. Granny
Weatherall bakes a wedding cake, from scratch, nothing bought. She then takes her time
rummaging through old letters from George, and John, and other old memorabilia that
reminds her about her past with George. Granny Weatherall then begins to think she is
talking to her daughter, Hapsy, holding her grandbaby, rocking her in the rocking chair,
trying to put the baby asleep. As the priest is administrating the last rights on Granny
Weatherall, she is thinking he is trying to take advantage of her while she is in the state
in which she is unable to do anything about it.
Granny Weatherall is a stubborn woman that is set in her ways and does not like change
or surprises. She does not like admitting that she is getting old, and sometimes she needs
help with things but will not ask for it. When baking the wedding cake she could not use
the ingredients that Cornelia, her daughter had. She says she uses everything fresh when
she is making her white cake. She has to handpick the eggs from the hens, churn the
butter herself until she had heart pains. Then she asks her son to churn the butter, when
she realizes she cannot do it anymore. She thinks the house has to be perfect, spotless, not
a speck of dust anywhere. Granny Weatherall also thinks that the white tablecloth has to

Benefits And Benefits Of Kinesiology
Kinesiology And Why It Can Benefit You
People are becoming increasingly aware of how important it is to not only take care
of their health, but to do so in a natural way. This is why there is a renewed interested
in Kinesiology, a practice that was founded back in 1976 already. More and more people
are discovering every day that the natural health care system of Kinesiology is able to
improve not only their health, but also their vitality and wellbeing. However, there are
also still people who are unsure or unaware of what a huge benefit Kinesiology can be.
What Exactly Is Kinesiology?
Kinesiology is a system that enables practitioners to apply a range of healing techniques
that are not only powerful, but also very gentle. It combines muscle monitoring along
with Chinese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kinesiology is not only a holistic therapy, but also has practitioners who specialize in
different forms of Kinesiology. While all of them make use of the muscle testing their
techniques might differ slightly. In addition to classical Kinesiology, the Kinesiology
Federation recognizes branches such as creative Kinesiology, Wellness Kinesiology,
Progressive Kinesiology, Educational Kinesiology, Creative Kinesiology and Health
Kinesiology.
When Kinesiology therapy is used for health problems the focus is usually on physical
and mental ailments. Back pain, injuries, digestive problems, common aches and pains,
and chronic fatigue are all examples of physical ailments commonly treated by
Kinesiology. Mental ailments include learning disabilities, emotional stress, depression,
phobias and fears, past trauma and others.
Other issues that have been successfully treated by Kinesiology include behavioral
problems, communication abilities, sleep disorders, anxiety and even ADD/ADHD. Even
children who suffer from problems such as stuttering, bed wetting and clumsiness can
benefit from Kinesiology to assist them and help build their
The Breaking Bad Series
Life is not fair for Jesse Pinkman, a 25 year old man who is long estranged with his
family. In the Breaking Bad series, Jesse is thought to be what society would call a
low life (Quin). From the moment we see Jesse in the first episode, he is on the run
under the pseudonym Cap n Cook ( Jesse Pinkman ). When Jesse and Walter join to
make methamphetamine, their lives start to spiral. To be deprived of doing
something you are passionate about, and to be rejected by your own family because
of it, can make a man do unthinkable things. Because of past events in his life, Jesse is
in search of approval and attention while living a life of crime. Jesse has a passion for
art that leads him to the life of cooking meth. In the first episode Jesse tells Walt,
Cooking is art. As a kid, Jesse was very creative and he liked to draw. Jesse s parents
wanted him to be a doctor but Jesse had other plans for his life. Because of his
rebellious behavior and drug use, Jesse s parents ban him from the family and want
nothing to do with him. At one point, Jesse tries to change his life and comes back
home, sneaking through the back. His parents are ready to kick him out again but
when they see Jesse setting the dinner table, they see a ray of hope for their son. Jesse
s parents find drugs in his room that belong to his brother, Jake, but they assume it is
Jesse s and they kick him out for good. The rejection was very hurtful to Jesse and led
him to try and find acceptance out on the streets
Communication At A Good Foundation
Communication in Groups
The number one way to build a good foundation between each individual in the group
would be in the way one speaks to each other. Using good communication can make a
difference in how one is perceived in a group. Whether in a working environment or a
school setting, communication is a must. To aid communicationthere are some
communication styles, which we learned in class, that can help improve the
communication in groups. The communication styles that a person would use in any
group are verbal, non verbal, and written communication.
When using verbal communication an individual has to be aware in how one is speaking
to a member of the team. Being able to talk to another individual presents the opportunity
for instant feedback, which can lead to better communication. Using an inappropriate
tone of voice or verbally commutating incorrectly can create confusion and
misunderstanding, however, this is where that instant feedback can aid the
communication. If the individual did not mean to attack or put down the other person,
the receiver can give that feedback to the person giving the message and instantaneously
correct the problem. On the other hand, non verbal communication can be challenging to
dissimulate because of the personal appearances that one is unaware. Physical
expressions, facial expression, and eye movements can say a lot even if the person does
no say a word. The latter type of communication are called non verbal communication,
and can
Preeclampsia
Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication characterized by the development of
hypertension and proteinuria in the second half of pregnancy. There is currently no
definitive cause, however, it is thought to result from disturbed development of the
placenta, leading to endothelial dysfunction and systemic inflammation.
Syncytiotrophoblast extracellular vesicles (STBEVs) are produced when the syncytial
placental surface is shed into the maternal circulation. We hypothesized that this would
cause vascular endothelial cell dysfunction via activation of the multi ligand lectin like
oxidized low density lipoprotein scavenger receptor (LOX 1). This could then initiate a
cascade of events. One of the effects of LOX 1 activation is the production of reactive...

14 The main ligand for the LOX 1 receptor is oxidized low density lipoproteins (ox
LDLs), however, it is also able to bind bacteria, activated platelets, and apoptotic cells.
14 Ox LDLs accumulate in plaques present on the walls of vascular tissue and have
been thought to disturb endothelial and vascular function via LOX 1 activation. 15
Activation of the LOX 1 receptor is known to upregulate NADPH oxidase subunits,
leading to the subsequent production of reactive oxygen species (ROS).16 18 These
ROS, specifically superoxide (O2 ), produced from activation of LOX 1 continue to
cause damage particularly in energy producing organelles like the mitochondria.19
Damage to the mitochondria can cause endothelial dysfunction, which leads to
degradation via apoptosis and autophagy, as well as thrombosis and smooth muscle
cell proliferation.20 Interestingly, the LOX 1 receptor has been suggested to play a
role in PE. Research by Zhang et al. (2015) and Sankaralingam et al. (2008) has
demonstrated that LOX 1 expression is significantly increased both in the placenta, as
well as the vasculature in PE patients. The exact mechanism is unclear; however,
oxidative stress (possibly resulting from the circulating factors released during PE) has
been shown to increase LOX 1 expression on
Beautiful Boy by David Shelf Essay
Beautiful Boy by David Sheff 1. Sheff intrigued me with his story just by the back of
the book. The entire story is about his eldest son, Nic, who is an amazing student as a
child; however, his childhood begins to fade when he gets into the life of drugs and
alcohol. The experiences and hardships that the author goes through is very emotional
which really kept me reading. 2. The setting affects the author and his story. The book
takes place in modern day times as in 2008. This impacts the author and his
experiences because this is the time where drugs became more known and they were
easy to get which made it harder for Nic, David Sheff s son, to stop the drug abuse. 3.
The themes in this book are patience and faith. David must... Show more content on

If I could meet the author I would feel a little nervous. I would feel uncomfortable
asking him any questions because I wouldn t know how he would react: would he get
emotional? Would he get annoyed? Would he act fine because he gets questions all the
time. A hypothetical meeting with David Sheff is if he came to my school to talk about
drug and alcohol addiction and how it impacted his life and others around him. A
question I might ask is when did you realize that your son was not a casual user, but
was an addict? What was your immediate reaction? I would talk about the impact on
his family, siblings and friends. I would ask about whom his friends were and if they
were older because of the drug use. I would ask how he had the money for the drugs. A
story of my own that I would share with the author is about a kid that I know that
ended up not being able to go to college. All of a sudden he began going to rehab and
no one knew why. As time went on people began to realize that he did drugs and drank
a lot. He became banned form school grounds for a certain amount of time. He was
supposed to go off to college, but ended up not because he got in trouble with the law
and had separation anxiety. His younger sister had to deal with the fights at home and
her brother that she loved very much. I would share this story with Sheff to show that
even though this story is not about my family or me, my family was one
We are Immigrants at a Community College
As a immigrant and a community college student, I enjoy changes and challenges. I
wish to transfer to a four year research university to study in a more challenging and
diverse academic environment. College of Art and Science at University of
Pennsylvania will be a great fit for me because of its academic rigor and liberty,
premier Ivy League education, and vast research opportunities. Benjamin Franklin is
my hero. I sincerely admire his versatility. His contributions on electricity is
remarkable. Moreover, his bravery in his kite experiment always motivates me to
concentrate on my research, never deterred by any potential danger. I wish to develop
my personal qualities at Penn and the inherit Benjamin Franklin s spirit and philosophy.
Academically, I look forward to attending an institution where I can personalize my
education. College of Art and Science at Penn resonates with my educational goals.
The College Curriculum satisifies my desire for well rounded higher education. I can
flexibly decide my class schedule and learn across disciplines. I can study a wide range
of art and science knowledge and broaden my horizon. While discovering the
fundamental principles of nature, I can enjoy the beauty and charm of humanity and art.
This general and specialized education, like the Penn student Kramar who speaks in the
video, enables me to integrate creative art into my scientific research to better understand
the pattern of microscopic world and ignite lot of innovative ideas.
Sensitive periods
Assignment 2:
Define the term sensitive periods and link them appropriately to the child s first stage of
development. Explain how you would support these sensitive periods during this first
crucial stage.
Dr. Maria Montessori, basing on her scientific child observation, concluded that children
learn and adjust to their surroundings on their own and by the means of inner powers
(Montessori, 1966) they possess at birth: the Absorbent Mind (Montessori, 2007a), human
tendencies (Montessori, 1966) and sensitive periods (Montessori, 1966). Essential skills
acquisition and adjustment occurs in the first six years of life and requires a great deal
of freedom, a mindful assistance of an adult and a favorable environment (Montessori, ...

that were firstly developed separately, are coming to the cohesion. Memory starts to

Gum Disease Research Paper
Periodontal (gum) disease is a preventable condition, yet it affects almost half of the
American population, according to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, and it
s the most common reason for tooth loss in adults. While these are disturbing statistics,
your teeth and gums can remain healthy for a lifetime when you know the cause of gum
disease and how to prevent it. And believe it or not, a dental discount plan is another tool
that can help you fight this sneaky disease and save you money.
Cause of Periodontal Disease
Bacteria in the mouth continually form a sticky film on the teeth called plaque especially
around the gum line. When allowed to remain on the teeth, bacterial plaque hardens into
tartar, which causes the gums to become inflamed and swollen. But the good news is this
first stage of gum disease (gingivitis) can be reversed, and your gums can become healthy
again. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bacteria trapped in these pockets ultimately cause the breakdown of bone and tissue
supporting the teeth. This stage is called periodontitis, and while it can be treated, it is
not reversible. And if too much bone is lost, one or more teeth may need to be removed.
Signs and Symptoms
Gum disease is frequently called insidious because it can be painless and damage your
gums and bone without you knowing it. Therefore, if you should notice any of the
following symptoms, see a dentist right away.

Dracula Vs Frankenstein
Literary works, such as novels, have captivated audiences since their creation. Following
narratives of intimate human experiences, adventures in far off lands and encounters
with the supernatural, novels appeal to a broad selection of people, attracting a
following. The success of literary works, such as Bram Stoker s Dracula, attracts the
attention of producers of the screen and stage, as an already articulated story with
existing supporters, poses the possibility of huge financial gain when adapted into
another genre or medium. Tod Browning, a director who took up the challenge of
adapting Draculato the screen in 1931, produced a huge box office sensation of the
classic vampire tale that is still considered one of the most iconic adaptations today. Tod
Browning s movie Dracula, drew its inspiration from Bram Stoker s Dracula novel, but
was adapted to portray the directors personal take on the story and to please a cinematic
audience. While the book took its time to add suspense to certain scenes, prolonging
revelations and building up tensions in moments, the movie felt rushed and compressed...

Mystery, a key element and genre in Stoker s novel, seems to be taken out of the film
with scenes plainly revealing the supernatural aspects right away to audiences. The
first scene of Dracula we encounter is him rising out of his coffin, revealing himself as
not 100% human. We see him react to a crucifix, transform into a bat and even him
entering Lucy Westera s room to drink her blood. Tod Browning s adaptation seems to
take on some dramatic irony in this case, with audiences knowing more than the
characters, while Stoker prefers to keep readers and characters at the same level of
awareness. The supernatural in the books is hinted at but never clearly shown or told
until Van Helsing s revelation half way through the
The Ant of the Self
The Ant of the Self
Most seventh graders know the principle that oil and water don t mix. No matter how
much the solution is shaken or stirred, the water will settle to the bottom and the oil will
rise above to the surface. These attributes describing water and oil directly describe the
relationship between Spurgeon and Ray, the two main characters in ZZ Packer s The
Ant of the Self. Spurgeon, the water and intelligent son of Ray Bivens Jr., finds himself
carrying the burden of supporting his self centered, inappreciative father, the oil, on his

sees this march as his opportunity to make quick cash. Not appreciative of the unity of

Pulp Fiction Surrealism
Pulp Fiction. It can loosely be defined as a magazine or a book that is printed on cheap
paper that often deals with sensationalism. This is exactly what the director Quentin
Tarantino had in mind when the movie was first conceptualised. Pulp Fiction is widely
viewed and has gain much popularity in the modern culture. Unless you has living under
a rock and live in cultural darkness from the window that film holds, then you have heard
about this movie, whether you ve watched it or not. Pulp Fictionis unique in it s own
creativity, for the movie can be sometimes a little difficult to understand if one was
looking for a straightforward plot. Some may say it is about two hitmen and a boxer, but
the truth is that there is no specific story behind the film. The director, Quentin Tarantino
says, I always hope that if one million people see my movie, they see one million
different movies.
Quentin Tarantino, inspired by many influential movies of the past, he uses many styles
in filming. From documentary to surrealism, this film leaves no movement out. Quentin
Tarantino uses the film s formal properties to insinuate greater themes. He usually

The director s use of camera angles and points of view help in the emphasis of certain
plots or characters. One example of this occurs in the scene where Mia takes Vincent
to a Fifties style restaurant. The director uses mostly medium and long shots, mostly to
prevent us from really identifying with Mia or Vincent. This reflects how there is a
sense of distance and uncomfortable silence as Mia s character brings up in the scene.
This scene also has Expressionist qualities to it, mostly the set design. In the restaurant,
there are tables shaped like cars and the waitresses were dressed like famous celebrities
from the Fifties. This setting is almost dream like and makes it out to be a Surrealistic

To understand the controversy that Billie presented one must first go to the root or
source of such controversy and examine Billie s childhood. Billie was born Eleanora

Billie and her mother used to fight a lot, when her mother was around. Much of the time

Billie grew accustomed to using men to get money. Billie would pick up guys,

the truths of the world when Billie became a prostitute. quot;[Billie] ran errands for a

Educationally, Billie was deprived. Never getting beyond the fifth grade, Billie was

Hidden Characters In Hidden Figures
Of all passages throughout the book Hidden Figures, Margot Lee Shetterly s depiction
of Dorothy Vaughn s intimidating journey to the city of Hampton resonates with me the
most. The Colored waiting room at the Greyhound bus station served as the checkpoint
for an in between world. Dorothy boarded the bus, and with each passing mile, life in
Farmville faded into the distance. (Shetterly, 22) This passage from Shetterly s novel
seems to foreshadow my own journey that I will soon undertake. Just like Dorothy I will
be starting the next phase of my life. I will leave my hometown alone for the first time
and depart my comfort zone in the pursuit of opportunity and a greater future.
As it so happens, NASA Langley Research Center is less than an hour from my home.
Many of the areas and neighborhoods which the author describes I have either heard

many of the descriptions and issues that Ms. Shetterly describes in the book. When I was
young, I travelled throughout Hampton Roads often, as my mother owned a store in a

women of West area computer pool, I can identify with the book, as well as the events
and people described within it.

Effects Of Ship Pollution

POLLUTION
Abstract: Life itself arose from the oceans. The ocean is vast, covering 140 million
square miles, some 72 per cent of the earth s surface. Not only has the oceans always
been a prime source of nourishment for the life it helped generate, but from earliest
recorded history it has served for trade and commerce, adventure and discovery. It has
kept people apart and brought them together. Humans have always had a close
relationship with the aquatic environment, including the early use of the sea for food
harvesting and communication. Today, the sea is an important component of the
transportation system, with large amounts of cargo and passengers. This chapter provides
a short introduction to ships and shipping also introduces the environmental impacts
related to ship operations. Ship transportation has increased tremendously since the
industrial revolution, which has resulted in increased emissions due to shipping and
increased stresses on the environment. Keywords: Ship, Shipping transportation,

participating in the subsidized system...consistent and reliable fashion (Martin, 2007,
para. 2). Most parents want to know what their child does in day care and how they do in
the centers. With this system, the parents and child care providers are able to
communicate with each other. This could ensure parents that their children are safe and
they are getting a good education out of the child care centers. Many parents have been
wanting a system where they can always bring their children to daycare whenever they
need to. The text states, Parents do want an emergency care system for the times when
their normal day care provider suddenly quits or is unable to work a day, or when their
child is sick (Robinson, 1993, para. 21). Having this type of system would be
beneficial for all parents, whether they are bringing their children to daycare everyday
or a few times a week. They do not have to worry about finding another day care and
being late to work because their child care provider is not available. Furthermore, child
care providers are willing to help all children in succeeding their
Difference Between Economy And Neoclassical Trade Theory
According to Adam Smith 1776) in...... a country has an absolute advantage in producing
the product when it is more efficient in making that product than any other country. If
two countries specialise in producing different products and trade amongst themselves,
both these countries will have more of both products available to them for consumption
(in which each has an absolute advantage) 2.2.Neoclassical Trade theory This is also
known as Comparative Advantage. (David Ricardo1817) stated that if one country has an
absolute advantage in producing two products over another country, trading with that
other country will still yield more output for both countries than if the more efficient
producer did everything for themselves. The country with the absolute advantage... Show

Heckscher Ohlin Theory Comparative advantage comes up from differences in
national factor endowments, such as land, labour, or capital, as opposite to
Neoclassical trade theory which stresses productivity of products being produced for
consumption. This theory suggest that the country should focus on exporting
products using its scarce resources and brings across a free trade principle where
goods will be moving freely without any trade barriers implying that this would make
flow of resources in and out more demand and more supply will increase the country s
economy(Eli Heckscher 1919 Bertil Ohlin1933). 2.4.New Trade Theory Achievement
of economies of in 1970 s scale, trade can increase the different sorts of goods available
for consumption and those goods can be in a decreased affordable price. Further, the
ability to capture economies of scale before anyone else is an important first mover
advantage. Nations may benefit from trade even when they do not differ in resource
endowments or technology. This theory is not at risks with Comparative Advantage,
since it identifies first mover advantage as an important source of comparative advantage.

Chocolat Film Themes
French film writer and director Claire Denis intriguing film White Material (2009)
reprises themes that have been previously portrayed in her earlier motion picture
Chocolat (1987), including the colonial and post colonial era of France in the African
continent and the effects that these processes have on the characters. In addition, subjects
such as violence, race and cultural identity can all be found within the film. The title itself
refers to a term used to describe whitepeople and any material belonging coming from
them. Denis expertly interprets these themes through the eyes of Maria Vial (Isabelle
Huppert), her son Manuel (Nicolas Duvauchelle) and the Boxer (Isaach De Bankole),
which will be the main focus of this essay.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maria s fierce and determined character is juxtaposed with the men s fragility. With her
father in law being an invalid, her ex husband s wishes to leave the plantation, and her
son s laziness and indifference, Maria takes on the responsibility of the coffee
plantation and tries to apply this to every aspect of her life. However, the most
prominent of the male figures in Maria s life is Manuel, a child born in Africa of
French parents. Contrary to his mother s sense of belonging in the French African
colony, Manuel seems to be more aware that their presence is unwelcome and makes no
apparent effort to make that presence known. Although he is a native, the country doesn
t like him as mentioned in one of the film s sequences during a conversation between
the African mayor and Maria. Manuel undergoes a disturbing transformation after being
assaulted by two children who rob and humiliate him, leaving him naked and
vulnerable. This event drives him out of his isolated world and towards violence as he
shaves off his hair and attempts to join the young rebel militia. The once beautiful
French boy s mental and emotional change is established during the sequence in which
he forcefully shoves his blonde hair into one of the servant s mouth after she calls him a
dog. Manuel s decent into madness runs parallel with the downfall of the coffee
plantation. Paradoxically, both seem to be Maria s weakness. As she continuously
attempts to control everything in her life, she cannot bring herself to control her son or to
prevent destruction and chaos from taking over the coffee plantation. In turn, Manuel
may be a frightening symbol of the inevitable self destruction of race
Gender Roles In Same Sex Relationships
In S. Mays article, what about gender roles in same sex relationships, published by
Norton, Mays discusses same sex relationships, and why no one is considered the girl
in the relationship. More male gay couples are stereotyped about their identity then
same sex female relationships. This is simply because the roles a man does makes
him look feminine. The life of typical same sex relationships is characterized by
appearance, masculinity and femininity. Appearance is mainly stereotypical on males
because people talk about if the male cooks every night he is the female in the
relationship. If one of the males plays sports or is more masculine than the other, he
the man of the relationship. That s judging a book by its cover, just because one
spouse is good at cooking or even shopping doesn t make them the female they just
have the better trait. (Mays, 2013). Being masculine doesn t always consist of football
type of sports. Opening the door for another individual rather same sex or opposite
doesn t necessarily mean he is the man but because it s simply a nice gesture. (Mays,
2013). Both spouses in the relationship are considered the man because that s what
they were born to be. Just because they like other males doesn t mean they are females
in a relationship. This statement goes for female same sex relationships. There are
some people are like I wonder who is the man of the relationship like she has muscles
and plays sports while the other one shops and cooks dinner every
How Is Diction Used In Olaudah Equiano
The utilization of detail creates a vivid image of the horrific scenes the slaves
experienced during being transported to england. For instance, one time on deck he
says, One white man in the particular I saw, when we were permitted to be on deck
flogged so unmercifully with a large rope near the foremast (86). Equiano employs
detail in order to establish the responses to the beating of the man. Watching the
horrific scenes questioned if Equiano would he be next. To illustrate the astonishment
of Equiano while on deck he says While we stayed on the coast I was mostly on deck,
and one day, to my great astonishment, I saw one of these vessels coming in with the

The usage of a strong vocabulary shows cacophonous diction. Equiano uses words
such as astonishment , meanest , countenances and dejection (84). This can be seen in
the following situation when Equiano is below the deck it seems almost like a
chamber. This produce copious perspirations so that the air soon became unfit for
respirations from a variety of loathsomeness (87). The author s choice to include diction
clarifies his meaning because it makes emphasis on the terrible smell. Another instance
of diction that implies the dreadful living conditions was the lack of food. Equiano
explains One day they had taken a number of fishes and when they had killed and
satisfied themselves with as many as they thought fit, to our astonishment who were on
the deck, rather than give any of them to us as we expected they tossed the remaining
fish into the sea again (87). The vivid imagery dramatizes the hunger in order to put the
reader in Equiano s shoes. All of these are specific examples of the appalling living
conditions that no human should
Benefits Of Cloud Storage
Everyone is going to the cloud for storage, but what exactly does that mean? Where is
the cloud and is it secure? What are the benefits of storing data on the Cloud? The
National Institute of Standards and Technology describes cloud storage as a model for
enabling ubiquitous, on demand network access to a shared configurable computing
resources that can be swiftly accessed and released with minimal effort or service
provider collaboration. It is comprised of a collection of hardware and software that
allows the infrastructure of the cloud to work in a seamless, unified effort. Depending on
the classification of information and the service provider the remote servers can be
located within the same facility. The stored data is... Show more content on

Then the characteristic of resource pooling. This allows a provider a plethora of
computing resources such as data storage processing. Rapid elasticity is the next and
is best described as a network that expands or decreases, in some cases, automatically
to meet the needs of a customer. Finally, measured service is cloud computing resource
usage can be measured, described as providing transparency for the provider and
consumer. Cloud computing services use a metering capability which permits it to
control and enhance resource use. The more you utilize the higher the bill. The three
deliver methods of cloud computing/storage is software as a service (SaaS), Platform as
a Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). The service provides on demand
pay per use and is independent of a platform. Software as a Service (SaaS), sometimes
referred to as on demand software is a software delivery model in which software and
associated data are hosted on the cloud. SaaS is typically accessed via a web browser
and is paid on a subscription basis, monthly or yearly as per requirement. SaaS is a
method of software that allows data to be accessed from any device with an internet

Cultural Differences Between Native American And The...
After the New World was discovered by the Europeans, the poor British settlers set out to
start new lives and earn steady income in the lands. Although Native American were
already living their separate lives upon the same lands, the British settlers soon called the
colonies home. As the two, vastly different cultures converged, misunderstandings soon
followed which erupted into an ongoing clash of cultures. The interactions between the
Native Americans and the early British settlers bred hostility because of the
misunderstanding of cultural differences between the two parties. The communication
styles of the Native Americans and the British settlers were polar opposites which
cultivated confusion and misunderstanding during initial interactions. The ways in which
the Native Americans and the British settlers relayed information was unique to each
group. The Native Americans used eloquent speeches and meaningful metaphors as their
way of communicating and recording history while the British obsessively wrote with
paper and pen, practically to the point where if an event was not written down, it did not
transpire. The contrasting approaches to recording and relaying information confused the
opposing party which led to misinterpretations and confusion. In the early 1700s, the
governor of New York, Cadwallader Colden, remarked on the English s misunderstanding
of the Native American spoken word saying, ...Indian speakers employed many
metaphors which interpreted by an
I Had Joined A Bollywood Dance Team Essay
Back in 2013, I had joined a Bollywood Dance team. I had always loved dancing, and
the team always allowed me to show my love and appreciation towards dance and to
embrace my Indian culture and heritage. I was a part of it for two years and met some
incredible people. It was safe to say that I made friends on this team that would last a
lifetime. A couple of my best friends from the team, Vishal and Rajan, had started
attending UCR in Fall 2015, and through them, I learned a lot about the Indian dance
teams on campus. They happened to join one their freshmen year too. It was called
UCRaas. They had a memorable freshmen year, competed in competitions across the
country, and had experiences similar to the ones we shared with our old dance team.
They were a part of UCRaas even though it was not a similar dance form to what we
had all been a part of. UCRaas was a Raas Garba team. Raas is a traditional folk dance,
originating from the state of Gujarat of western India, that can be traced back to the
time of Lord Krishna and has to do with the religious festival of Navratri, a Hindu
celebration of worshiping the Goddess Durga. There are two forms of Raas. One is
called Garba Raas, which is danced in a large circle continuously, with each step being
delivered in a two to three count rhythm. The second is called Dandiya Raas. This Raas
form involves baton like sticks called dandiyas. It consists of two circles, in which
partners dance together in a series of specific counts.
The Mersault And Meursault And The Stranger
The characters of Maude from the movie Harold and Maude written by Colin Higgins
and Meursault from The Stranger by Albert Camus, act differently but share the same
philosophy towards love, life, and death. The characters differ in the way they go about
loving and living. Meursault is passive as he accepts what comes to him, preferring to
take a more pliant, dispassionate route. Maude more actively seeks out meaning and joy
from her life, preferring to take control of her fate. Both characters die at the end of their
respective stories, but they die having believed that they lived fully and without regrets,
accepting their end with open arms.
The main difference between the Mersault and Maude is how they experience love.
Meursault is very passive to the concept of love and it s even debatable if he
experiences it with Marie all. When she asks him if he loves her, he himself states that
it didn t mean anything but that I didn t think so. He then adds But as we were fixing
lunch, and for no apparent reason, she laughed in such a way that I kissed her (Camus,
35). With Meursault, his emotions are a fairly flat line and he s not prone to wild fits
of excess feeling. His responses are lukewarm and he doesn t take initiative. In contrast,
when Harold proposes to Maude and expresses his love for her she returns his
sentiments, saying Maude loves Harold, responding with a strong statement of her own.
Maude s life is about filling time with things she loves. She has strong
Beta Gamma Protein Summary
The article The Beta Gamma subunits of GTP binding proteins activate the muscarinic
K+ channels in heart , is a study that explores the role that G protein subunits have on the
activation of muscarinic gated potassium (K+) channels (Mk channels). The article stated
that essentially G proteins are heterotrimers composed of alpha, beta, and gamma
subunits. The alpha component of G proteins does not have a role in the activation of the
Mk channels but it plays a role in the specificity and diversity of different effectors. This
means that the beta gamma subunits are solely responsible for the activation of K+
channels. The neurotransmitterAcetylcholine(ACh), binds to the muscarinic ACh receptor
which affects the K+ current of the pacemaker and atrial cells. This background
information poses the primary question of how the mAChR (ACh receptors) is coupled
to the K+ channels and what are the G proteins specific role in the interaction of the
neurotransmitter ACh and the K+ channels.

K+ channels, it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

are present in every part of the body, the manipulations of the receptors can aide in the
treatment of neurological disorders, chronic pains, diabetes, cardiac dysfunctions, etc. In
addition, the G couple protein receptors are the most heavily sought out family of
proteins, by pharmaceutical companies. This is because the structure and additivity of
the receptors can aid in therapeutic medicines. For example, Zyprexa, Clarinex, Zantac,
and Zelnorm, are all medicines that are targeting the GPCR. This research will help
scientist learn how to better formulate medicine to have an increased effect. Overall, a
better understanding of the GCPR s would revolutionize
Eras
There are many theories about how earth came to be, and one of them a scientifically
detailed explanation. In this theory, it is said that earth s history has been broken up
into four main eras. The Precambrian, Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic Eras. Each of
these eras have there own accomplishments, or milestone events, that occurred within the
time period. From one celled organisms to dinosaurs, it all eventually leads up to the
first sightings of humans. The first era to occur was the Precambrian Era. One of the
first events to happen in the history of the earth is the Hadean Eon. The Hadean Eon was
the time period in which earth s surface hardened and became solid. Scientists found out

One of the Cenozoic Era s milestones is development of mammals. Mammals ruled the
Cenozoic Era after being some of the only surviving species after the mass extinction of
the dinosaurs. Fossils of mammals can be found using radioactive dating to show when
these mammals dominated the Cenozoic Era. And the last event to talk about is the
placement of some of the continents and land masses. India collided with Asia between
55 and 45 million years ago, and Arabia collided with Eurasia 35 million years ago.
Scientists can date these events by taking the direction that the plates are moving and

Disadvantages Of Coptic Architecture
Christianity was the majority religion during the 4th to 6th centuries AD and until the
Arab conquest of Egypt (640 641 AD). The adjective Coptic is variously applied, not
without controversy, to a language and its literature, a church, a historical period, and an
entire culture [1]. The actual term Copt and accompanying adjective Coptic originate
from the Arabic qibt, which itself is a corruption of the Greek term (Agyptos) for the
people of Egypt. Today, the term Coptic refers to the Christian population of Egypt [2].
Christianity was brought to Egypt by St. Mark the Apostle in the mid 1st century, this
era, also known as the Coptic Period . The Coptic buildings never enjoyed the patronage
of a court. Therefore, the greater part of the Coptic monuments... Show more content on

Mud brick became the building material of choice, being the primary material used for
domestic architecture henceforth. Likewise, mud brick became a standard medium for
religious and funerary architecture. When compared to stone as a construction
material, mud brick presented many advantages. Unlike stone, mud brick was
universally available, it being possible to produce brick from Nile alluvium or desert
sediments/clays, sand, and water resources accessible to everyone, though in varying
quantity [5, 6]. Mud brick was quick to fabricate, especially when compared to the
quarrying of stone blocks, and was therefore more economical, particularly for large
construction projects such as entire palace complexes or row upon row of temple

Portrayal Of Black Female Sexuality
They never seen black people kissing or making love on screen (Lee ,1987).After
decades of black love not being portrayed in the film industry, one young black
director, by the name of Shelton Lee, also known as Spike Lee, brought this new visual
aspect of African American love. Lee was the first to display black love, both
figuratively and physically, on the big screen. It is not only the intimacy of black people
that attract larger audiences but it is the inclusion of black femalesexuality. The look of a
woman through a malegaze quenches the subconscious thirst of a male s fantasy. In Lee s
films, males portrayed on screen as multidimensional, and are defined by their unusual
characteristics and attributes. The women, on the other... Show more content on

When she was faced with death, she put on her most formal wear and painted her face
to await her murder by a man named, Jehu, who came to take her power. She can be
described as a ruthless and cunning woman, in today s society associated with sorcery
and prostitution. She is known for wanting an abundance of sex, and using sex to get
what she wants from a male figure. In many of Lee s films the Jezebel character is
included more than once. In, She s Gotta Have It, the main female character, Nola is a
sexually prowess woman with multiple male sex partners. Nola is financially stable
on her own, but she lacks much of promising future without the inclusion of a male
figure. There are multiple problematic factors with this character starting with her fear
of being deserted by a man. Nola has an extreme obsession with men, whenever she s
not alone, the viewer can assume she is with another man. This character is shown on
the bed in 90 percent of the film, assuming this is only place she feels the most
familiar and comfortable. In the film, Nola, paints women as being man crazy,
insecure and sexually loose. The Jezebel character in Lee s Do the Right Thing, Tina,
is slightly different from Nola. Tina is an actual girlfriend of the character, Mookie but
initially all he wants to do with her is have sex. This here already portrays the women
as only a sex object; he only wants her for sex. The ice cube scene makes it apparent the
In The Bissula Analysis
In his pioneering work, The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire,
Edward Gibbon writes that the poetical fame of Ausonius condemns the taste of his age.
Indeed, Ausonius s work may seem uncomplicated on the surface: he borrows heavily
from previous literature and uses straightforward syntax. However, his work contains
depth beyond its ostensible simplicity: it blends genres and uses consistent themes as
narrative foci to guide the reader. In two of his most prominent poems, liquid (as water
and drink) is the key interpretive control: In the Bissula, alcohol provides wisdom that
counters the confining seriousness of sobriety, while in the Moselle the riverprovides
calm comfort that contrasts with the hectic unnatural world. Throughout both poems,
Ausonius consistently uses liquid to contrast the serenity and clarity provided by water
and drink with the chaos of the dry world. In the Bissula, alcohol plays a key role as the
interpretive control. Ausonius addresses the reader directly, proclaiming that his poems
are unserious. He writes that I follow Thymele (4), classifying his work as relaxing
entertainment more than serious literature. Indeed, he requests that the reader drink
before you read (6) in order to best understand the poem. While alcohol is typically
associated with confusion and dulled wit, Ausonius claims that the drunk reader will get
wise to me (8). With this subversion of expectations, Ausonius proclaims drink as a tool
to achieve

In the first episode Jesse tells Walt, Cooking is art. As a kid, Jesse was very creative and he liked to draw. Jesse s parents wanted him to be a doctor but Jesse had other plans for his life. • 5. Communication At A Good Foundation Communication in Groups The number one way to build a good foundation between each individual in the group would be in the way one speaks to each other. Using good communication can make a difference in how one is perceived in a group. Whether in a working environment or a school setting, communication is a must. To aid communicationthere are some communication styles, which we learned in class, that can help improve the communication in groups. The communication styles that a person would use in any group are verbal, non verbal, and written communication. When using verbal communication an individual has to be aware in how one is speaking to a member of the team. Being able to talk to another individual presents the opportunity for instant feedback, which can lead to better communication. Using an inappropriate tone of voice or verbally commutating incorrectly can create confusion and misunderstanding, however, this is where that instant feedback can aid the communication. If the individual did not mean to attack or put down the other person, the receiver can give that feedback to the person giving the message and instantaneously correct the problem. On the other hand, non verbal communication can be challenging to dissimulate because of the personal appearances that one is unaware. Physical expressions, facial expression, and eye movements can say a lot even if the person does no say a word. The latter type of communication are called non verbal communication, and can
  • 6. Preeclampsia Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication characterized by the development of hypertension and proteinuria in the second half of pregnancy. There is currently no definitive cause, however, it is thought to result from disturbed development of the placenta, leading to endothelial dysfunction and systemic inflammation. Syncytiotrophoblast extracellular vesicles (STBEVs) are produced when the syncytial placental surface is shed into the maternal circulation. We hypothesized that this would cause vascular endothelial cell dysfunction via activation of the multi ligand lectin like oxidized low density lipoprotein scavenger receptor (LOX 1). This could then initiate a cascade of events. One of the effects of LOX 1 activation is the production of reactive... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 14 The main ligand for the LOX 1 receptor is oxidized low density lipoproteins (ox LDLs), however, it is also able to bind bacteria, activated platelets, and apoptotic cells. 14 Ox LDLs accumulate in plaques present on the walls of vascular tissue and have been thought to disturb endothelial and vascular function via LOX 1 activation. 15 Activation of the LOX 1 receptor is known to upregulate NADPH oxidase subunits, leading to the subsequent production of reactive oxygen species (ROS).16 18 These ROS, specifically superoxide (O2 ), produced from activation of LOX 1 continue to cause damage particularly in energy producing organelles like the mitochondria.19 Damage to the mitochondria can cause endothelial dysfunction, which leads to degradation via apoptosis and autophagy, as well as thrombosis and smooth muscle cell proliferation.20 Interestingly, the LOX 1 receptor has been suggested to play a role in PE. Research by Zhang et al. (2015) and Sankaralingam et al. (2008) has demonstrated that LOX 1 expression is significantly increased both in the placenta, as well as the vasculature in PE patients. The exact mechanism is unclear; however, oxidative stress (possibly resulting from the circulating factors released during PE) has been shown to increase LOX 1 expression on
  • 7. Beautiful Boy by David Shelf Essay Beautiful Boy by David Sheff 1. Sheff intrigued me with his story just by the back of the book. The entire story is about his eldest son, Nic, who is an amazing student as a child; however, his childhood begins to fade when he gets into the life of drugs and alcohol. The experiences and hardships that the author goes through is very emotional which really kept me reading. 2. The setting affects the author and his story. The book takes place in modern day times as in 2008. This impacts the author and his experiences because this is the time where drugs became more known and they were easy to get which made it harder for Nic, David Sheff s son, to stop the drug abuse. 3. The themes in this book are patience and faith. David must... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If I could meet the author I would feel a little nervous. I would feel uncomfortable asking him any questions because I wouldn t know how he would react: would he get emotional? Would he get annoyed? Would he act fine because he gets questions all the time. A hypothetical meeting with David Sheff is if he came to my school to talk about drug and alcohol addiction and how it impacted his life and others around him. A question I might ask is when did you realize that your son was not a casual user, but was an addict? What was your immediate reaction? I would talk about the impact on his family, siblings and friends. I would ask about whom his friends were and if they were older because of the drug use. I would ask how he had the money for the drugs. A story of my own that I would share with the author is about a kid that I know that ended up not being able to go to college. All of a sudden he began going to rehab and no one knew why. As time went on people began to realize that he did drugs and drank a lot. He became banned form school grounds for a certain amount of time. He was supposed to go off to college, but ended up not because he got in trouble with the law and had separation anxiety. His younger sister had to deal with the fights at home and her brother that she loved very much. I would share this story with Sheff to show that even though this story is not about my family or me, my family was one

  • 9. Sensitive periods Assignment 2: Define the term sensitive periods and link them appropriately to the child s first stage of development. Explain how you would support these sensitive periods during this first crucial stage. Dr. Maria Montessori, basing on her scientific child observation, concluded that children learn and adjust to their surroundings on their own and by the means of inner powers (Montessori, 1966) they possess at birth: the Absorbent Mind (Montessori, 2007a), human tendencies (Montessori, 1966) and sensitive periods (Montessori, 1966). Essential skills acquisition and adjustment occurs in the first six years of life and requires a great deal of freedom, a mindful assistance of an adult and a favorable environment (Montessori, ... • 10. Gum Disease Research Paper Periodontal (gum) disease is a preventable condition, yet it affects almost half of the American population, according to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, and it s the most common reason for tooth loss in adults. While these are disturbing statistics, your teeth and gums can remain healthy for a lifetime when you know the cause of gum disease and how to prevent it. And believe it or not, a dental discount plan is another tool that can help you fight this sneaky disease and save you money. Cause of Periodontal Disease Bacteria in the mouth continually form a sticky film on the teeth called plaque especially around the gum line. When allowed to remain on the teeth, bacterial plaque hardens into tartar, which causes the gums to become inflamed and swollen. But the good news is this first stage of gum disease (gingivitis) can be reversed, and your gums can become healthy again. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 11. Dracula Vs Frankenstein Literary works, such as novels, have captivated audiences since their creation. Following narratives of intimate human experiences, adventures in far off lands and encounters with the supernatural, novels appeal to a broad selection of people, attracting a following. The success of literary works, such as Bram Stoker s Dracula, attracts the attention of producers of the screen and stage, as an already articulated story with existing supporters, poses the possibility of huge financial gain when adapted into another genre or medium. Tod Browning, a director who took up the challenge of adapting Draculato the screen in 1931, produced a huge box office sensation of the classic vampire tale that is still considered one of the most iconic adaptations today. Tod Browning s movie Dracula, drew its inspiration from Bram Stoker s Dracula novel, but was adapted to portray the directors personal take on the story and to please a cinematic audience. While the book took its time to add suspense to certain scenes, prolonging revelations and building up tensions in moments, the movie felt rushed and compressed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mystery, a key element and genre in Stoker s novel, seems to be taken out of the film with scenes plainly revealing the supernatural aspects right away to audiences. The first scene of Dracula we encounter is him rising out of his coffin, revealing himself as not 100% human. We see him react to a crucifix, transform into a bat and even him entering Lucy Westera s room to drink her blood. Tod Browning s adaptation seems to take on some dramatic irony in this case, with audiences knowing more than the characters, while Stoker prefers to keep readers and characters at the same level of awareness. The supernatural in the books is hinted at but never clearly shown or told until Van Helsing s revelation half way through the
  • 12. The Ant of the Self The Ant of the Self Most seventh graders know the principle that oil and water don t mix. No matter how much the solution is shaken or stirred, the water will settle to the bottom and the oil will rise above to the surface. These attributes describing water and oil directly describe the relationship between Spurgeon and Ray, the two main characters in ZZ Packer s The Ant of the Self. Spurgeon, the water and intelligent son of Ray Bivens Jr., finds himself carrying the burden of supporting his self centered, inappreciative father, the oil, on his shoulders. Oblivious to his son s needs as well as others in the story, Ray tramples over the true meaning of an intimate relationship and worsens or even crumbles his existing ... Not hurting anyone directly, Ray misuses the meaning of the March. This gathering unites African American men so that they can rise together to show their brotherhood and from then on work together to appreciate what they have and make the world a better place to live in. Ray sees this march as his opportunity to make quick cash. Not appreciative of the unity of the black man, Ray wants only monetary gains. Once again Ray s not concerned with the world around him. Evaluating the story at the end, I feel that subconsciously Spurgeon sacrifices his time in hopes to catch a moment with his father that will prove to him that he really cares. For the longest time, Spurgeon would use his debates as a way of avoiding his father, however, this time he doesn t attend to be with his father. Spurgeon s hopes are crushed as he realizes that he will never have a meaningful relationship. Spurgeon isn t given any thanks for his father s bail, left alone during the march to sell birds, physically fighting with his drunk and belligerent father and left alone to find a bus ride home. At the bus station, Spurgeon sees a father and son enjoying their time together and becomes jealous of what they have. Spurgeon has В…the urge to weepВ… and В… [holds his] head in
  • 13. Pulp Fiction Surrealism Pulp Fiction. It can loosely be defined as a magazine or a book that is printed on cheap paper that often deals with sensationalism. This is exactly what the director Quentin Tarantino had in mind when the movie was first conceptualised. Pulp Fiction is widely viewed and has gain much popularity in the modern culture. Unless you has living under a rock and live in cultural darkness from the window that film holds, then you have heard about this movie, whether you ve watched it or not. Pulp Fictionis unique in it s own creativity, for the movie can be sometimes a little difficult to understand if one was looking for a straightforward plot. Some may say it is about two hitmen and a boxer, but the truth is that there is no specific story behind the film. One example of this occurs in the scene where Mia takes Vincent to a Fifties style restaurant. This reflects how there is a sense of distance and uncomfortable silence as Mia s character brings up in the scene. This scene also has Expressionist qualities to it, mostly the set design. The ocean is vast, covering 140 million square miles, some 72 per cent of the earth s surface. Not only has the oceans always been a prime source of nourishment for the life it helped generate, but from earliest recorded history it has served for trade and commerce, adventure and discovery. It has kept people apart and brought them together. Humans have always had a close relationship with the aquatic environment, including the early use of the sea for food harvesting and communication. Today, the sea is an important component of the transportation system, with large amounts of cargo and passengers. This chapter provides a short introduction to ships and shipping also introduces the environmental impacts related to ship operations. Ship transportation has increased tremendously since the industrial revolution, which has resulted in increased emissions due to shipping and increased stresses on the environment. Chocolat Film Themes French film writer and director Claire Denis intriguing film White Material (2009) reprises themes that have been previously portrayed in her earlier motion picture Chocolat (1987), including the colonial and post colonial era of France in the African continent and the effects that these processes have on the characters. In addition, subjects such as violence, race and cultural identity can all be found within the film. The title itself refers to a term used to describe whitepeople and any material belonging coming from them. Denis expertly interprets these themes through the eyes of Maria Vial (Isabelle Huppert), her son Manuel (Nicolas Duvauchelle) and the Boxer (Isaach De Bankole), which will be the main focus of this essay.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Maria s fierce and determined character is juxtaposed with the men s fragility. With her father in law being an invalid, her ex husband s wishes to leave the plantation, and her son s laziness and indifference, Maria takes on the responsibility of the coffee plantation and tries to apply this to every aspect of her life. However, the most prominent of the male figures in Maria s life is Manuel, a child born in Africa of French parents. Contrary to his mother s sense of belonging in the French African colony, Manuel seems to be more aware that their presence is unwelcome and makes no apparent effort to make that presence known. Although he is a native, the country doesn t like him as mentioned in one of the film s sequences during a conversation between the African mayor and Maria. Manuel undergoes a disturbing transformation after being assaulted by two children who rob and humiliate him, leaving him naked and vulnerable. This event drives him out of his isolated world and towards violence as he shaves off his hair and attempts to join the young rebel militia. The once beautiful French boy s mental and emotional change is established during the sequence in which he forcefully shoves his blonde hair into one of the servant s mouth after she calls him a dog. Manuel s decent into madness runs parallel with the downfall of the coffee plantation. Paradoxically, both seem to be Maria s weakness. As she continuously attempts to control everything in her life, she cannot bring herself to control her son or to prevent destruction and chaos from taking over the coffee plantation. In turn, Manuel may be a frightening symbol of the inevitable self destruction of race

Mays article, what about gender roles in same sex relationships, published by Norton, Mays discusses same sex relationships, and why no one is considered the girl in the relationship. The life of typical same sex relationships is characterized by appearance, masculinity and femininity. Appearance is mainly stereotypical on males because people talk about if the male cooks every night he is the female in the relationship. Although Native American were already living their separate lives upon the same lands, the British settlers soon called the colonies home. As the two, vastly different cultures converged, misunderstandings soon followed which erupted into an ongoing clash of cultures. The interactions between the Native Americans and the early British settlers bred hostility because of the misunderstanding of cultural differences between the two parties. The communication styles of the Native Americans and the British settlers were polar opposites which cultivated confusion and misunderstanding during initial interactions. The Mersault And Meursault And The Stranger The characters of Maude from the movie Harold and Maude written by Colin Higgins and Meursault from The Stranger by Albert Camus, act differently but share the same philosophy towards love, life, and death. The characters differ in the way they go about loving and living. Meursault is passive as he accepts what comes to him, preferring to take a more pliant, dispassionate route. Maude more actively seeks out meaning and joy from her life, preferring to take control of her fate. Both characters die at the end of their respective stories, but they die having believed that they lived fully and without regrets, accepting their end with open arms. The main difference between the Mersault and Maude is how they experience love. Meursault is very passive to the concept of love and it s even debatable if he experiences it with Marie all. Indeed, Ausonius s work may seem uncomplicated on the surface: he borrows heavily from previous literature and uses straightforward syntax. However, his work contains depth beyond its ostensible simplicity: it blends genres and uses consistent themes as narrative foci to guide the reader. In two of his most prominent poems, liquid (as water and drink) is the key interpretive control: In the Bissula, alcohol provides wisdom that counters the confining seriousness of sobriety, while in the Moselle the riverprovides calm comfort that contrasts with the hectic unnatural world. Throughout both poems, Ausonius consistently uses liquid to contrast the serenity and clarity provided by water and drink with the chaos of the dry world. In the Bissula, alcohol plays a key role as the interpretive control. Ausonius addresses the reader directly, proclaiming that his poems are unserious. He writes that I follow Thymele (4), classifying his work as relaxing entertainment more than serious literature. Indeed, he requests that the reader drink before you read (6) in order to best understand the poem. While alcohol is typically associated with confusion and dulled wit, Ausonius claims that the drunk reader will get wise to me (8). With this subversion of expectations, Ausonius proclaims drink as a tool to achieve
