African Imperialism DBQ
European powers shamelessly exploited the people and resources of Africa in the 19th
century. They often tried to justify their actions by using ideology, religion and moralism.
After the end of the African slave trade, the development of steam power, and medical
discovery, European nations started exploring not only the coast but also the unmapped
interior of the continent. In this essay, I will explain the main driving forces behind
African Imperialism. The Western europeans countries all competed for land and
resources because of their self interest. They sought natural resources, and technology
gave them the ability to exploit them. The philosophy of national pride however, was the
primary reason. (Main document) (Doc C, D B)
The technical advances in the early and middle part of the 19th century enabled Western
European powers to exploit imperial objectives in Africa. Among these advances were the
steam engine, extraction of quinine, invention of the telegraph, steal processing and
improved weaponry. The steam engine was important in increasing the speed and
reliability of transportation. Extracting quinine from the bark of the cinchona tree helped
treat malaria; a mosquito borne disease that killed thousands; it was now possible to
survive in the interior of Africa. The telegraph was invented in 1837 and allowed fast
communication over long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These countries wanted their most worthy citizens to be part of their imperial desires,
which lead to a philosophy of their ideals, religion and morals being developed. They
meant that they could justify the colonies and labor based on the superiority of their
culture, and the need to spread it to other cultures. When doing this, local cultures often
destroyed, and people lost a sense of their identity. (Doc
John Stewart Mill s The Subjection Of Women
In chapter III of The Subjection of Women, John Stewart Mill contends with the claims
that women are unfit to hold public office, due to their mental weakness, nervous energy,
and their inability to focus on singular problems. He also refutes the claim that women
are inherently unequal because they have not had the same successes as men in various
fields. In Chapter IV, Mill lays out his arguments for why granting women more freedom
would be beneficial in that it would increase utility. He begins by asserting that child
rearing, in his time, bolsters injustice, and has a negative impact on the character of men.
He then argues that women s equality would double the mental faculties of society. He
further argues that women who are uneducated have a bad influence upon men, and that
increasing women s liberty would have a betterimpact on society as a whole. Finally, he
argues that further genderequality would allow women to understand when sacrifices
need be made for the betterment of society. Mill s arguments are sound, however he
misses opportunities to strengthen his claims. This essay concludes with some additional
arguments that Mill could have added to increase the effectiveness of his arguments.
In Chapter III of The Subjection of Women, Mill addresses and criticizes arguments that
have claimed that women are inferior to men. The first argument he addresses is that
women are unfit to hold public because they are mentally inferior. To argue against this
idea, Mill
Photography And The Carnegie Museum Of Natural History
1.Introduction
I chose this article for the sole reason that I am a photographer so when I read that we
could choose the topic of our paper I wanted to find out how photography and
sociology can relate more to each other and what types of articles there are on the
library website that I can read to get more of and understanding for how sociology and
photography go hand in hand with each other. Therefore, obviously, the main topic is
Sociology in Photography and how to build solidarity with subjects and the audience.
I also found this to be an interesting topic because just last night I went to the Carnegie
Museum of Natural History where I got to hear 6 of 11 women photographers from
National Geographic speak about their work and they talked a lot about like
understanding their subjects and how to build solidarity with their subjects before they
photographed them and how to find a way to show the subject to the audience. It was
a really wonderful experience to not only look at their works but to also hear them
speak and I think that this journal I choose really relates to that which is another good
reason I choose it. The research questions being answered within this article are how to
build solidarity with your subject , how to build solidarity with your audience , how to
connect local and global issues with audience and how to build an audience network.

Military Strength at our Borders
As todays military currently winds down from actions in Iraq, Afghanistan and other
lands where the current war on terror is being fought they face a downsizing that will
return thousands home looking for new employment options. Every one of these
individuals whether enlisted or part of the officer ranks have sworn to protect the

One of the primary benefits of this program would be the information and resource
sharing. Today s military forces currently hold a level of operational experience not seen
in decades. For over ten years our forces have been increasing their effectiveness in a
multitude of security and reconstruction efforts. As the level of violence along the border
increases the US Customs and Border Agents are face with a new kind of enemy tactics
that can be perceived as middle ground between current border operations in Afghanistan
and the historical security issues along the border. A melding of the military tactics used
to train Afghani security force on the protection of their own border, historical US
Customs and Border tactics and techniques along with effective rules of engagement can
reduce violence and illegal cross border flows. An initial cross training between military
tactics subject matter experts, military mission planning subject matter experts and
operational Customs and Border Patrol agents can be much more efficient and effective
than training a group of new agents. The ground tactics force is not the only aspect of
this effort; their primary mission should be the security of the engineering and
construction force and surveillance of the borders such similar to the efforts of
Operation Jump Start (Greenhill. 2006 / pg25). The overall major focus of this
Anaylsis of the chicken ceremony Essay
Is the Chicken Ceremony a superstition, or is it a supper?
Why are chickens important in the Village Valle del Sole? The Village Valle del Sole
is located in one of the most isolated parts in Italy, so people living there are easily
influenced by the lore that is going around the whole village. For example, throughout
the novel, it is shown how important the chicken symbolises to people He had a fight
with his neighbor about a chicken. His neighbor came over with a shotgun, they started
shouting and screaming, and pom! the next thing you know, his hand is gone (Ricci 20) .
From this incident, it can be deduced that even an animal such as a chicken could be
considered precious due to their superstitions during that era. ... Show more content on

Why Vittorio would make up a charm in the middle of the chicken ceremony? Not
only that this proof shows that Vittorio is superstitious, but that he has the imagination
of chanting these words to increase the mood of the ceremony. Last but not least is
Vittorio s lucky coin. When the flames from the chicken starts to grow, he had taken
my lucky coin from my pocket now and was rubbing it furiously, hoping to calm the
spirits (Ricci 119). The lucky coin that Vittorio has is a symbol of life since actually
before it saved Luciano s life, so he thought that it would be good to be given Vittorio
since he will take care of it.
On the other hand, when Cristina was found in the barn by Vittorio, she had already chop
off the head of the chicken with blood staining in her hands, this doesn t necessary mean
that Cristina is performing the chicken ceremony since the process requires [...] cut out
the heart to put in your soup later [...] (Ricci 54) and when Vittorio carries out the
ceremony secretly by himself, he found out later that I had forgotten to cut out the
chicken s heart (Ricci 120) . This shows evidence that Cristina is not necessarily
performing the chicken ceremony in the barn to turn it into an offering for God, but
maybe she is doing it to

Objective:
GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) is a digital mobile telephony system
which is TDMA based wireless network technology developed widely in Europe and
other parts of the world. GSM uses a variation of time division multiple access
(TDMA) and is the most widely used of the three digital wireless telephony technologies
(TDMA, GSM, and CDMA). GSM digitizes and compresses data, then sends it down a
channel with two other streams of user data, each in its own time slot.
GSM phones make use of a SIM card to identify the user s account. The use of the SIM
card allows GSM network users to quickly move their phone number from one GSM
phone to another by simply moving the SIM card. Currently GSM networks operate
on the 850MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz, and 1900MHz frequency bands. Devices that
support all four bands are called quad band, with those that support 3 or 2 bands called
tri band and dual band, respectively. In the United States, Cingular operates on the 850
and 1900MHz bands, while T Mobile operates only on the 1900MHz band.
GSM security:
Security is the degree of protection against damages, danger, loss and crime. In our
days, the need for security makes many people look for different ways in
Family Values Essay
Like many, I was raised in a family whose beliefs and morals were of high standing. I
was able to avoid numerous situations that otherwise could have proved fatal to my
mental, physical, and spiritual state. However, while my situation allowed me to grow
up in a relatively safe environment, others of my associate were not so fortunate. One
friend of mine in particular grew up in a household where their moral standards and
beliefs caused much confusion and pain in her life. Besides participating in alcoholic
parties, having lower dress standards, and reviling in acts of dishonesty, my friend also
had a habit of sleeping around. In grade six she fell pregnant and, while I do not know
all the details, she had to skip most of her schooling that year. This is only a short
glimpse of what was in store for her, as she battled familyissues by participating in
drinking and sexual activities in order to escape family issues. While drinking on its own
is detrimental to one s health, the act in participating in sexual activities and lowering
ones moral standards is even more detrimental, both to the individual and their family.
Thus the necessity or moralityincorporates the roles of both parents and children within
the family to stay morally clean.
The role of parents in the family unit is vital; they are the ones that set the example for
future generations to follow. As parents, each role is unique and well prepared to suit
their children with their best characteristics as mothers
Significance Of The Hollywood Sign
The Hollywood Sign
The Symbol of a Land of Fantasy
Hollywood in Los Angeles, California could be called a Land of Fantasy and one of its
most famous symbols is the Hollywood Sign. It sits on top of Mount Lee in Griffith
Park and towers over Hollywood. The original sign was built in 1923 and was done as
a publicity ploy to encourage people to purchase homes in the subdivision known as
Hollywoodland located along Beachwood Canyon. One of the promoters for the sign
was Mack Sennet however the sign wasn t meant to last forever, only for a year and a
half.
The Hollywood Sign cost $21,000 to build and each of the letters was 30 ft. wide and
50 ft. high. Studded with light bulbs the sign could be seen for miles around. However
there was the constant problem of maintenance and vandalism and finally maintenance of
the sign was discontinued in 1939. Late in 1944 the H. Sherman Company became the
owner of around 435 acres of land adjoining Griffith Park including the sign. They took
down the word land and now the sign simply read Hollywood. In August of 1978 the
sign got all new steel letters and stretches 450 feet along the side of Mount Lee and
remains a symbol of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The spookiest thing was that the house was located right under the sign which in those
day spelled out Hollywoodland. The first job she got was in a small theater in a play
called Mad Hopes starring Billie Burke, who later became Glenda the good witch in
The Wizard of Oz . In this show was another newcomer Humphrey Bogart.
Unfortunately the play was not successful and Peg went on to perform in some small
productions along with Billie Burke while Bogart returned to New York. Finally she
landed a short term contract with RKO Studios. Her first role was in a film called
Thirteen Women but in the eyes of the critics the film was a disaster. Afterwards Peg

The Health Of The Youth Of Australia Face
Youth can be one of the most difficult times in human development due to the rapid
emotional, intellectual, and also physical changes one goes through as one progresses
from childhood to adolescence and then into adulthood. This time is of great importance
as it is crucial to establish positive health and social behaviours (AIHW, 2011). A large
portion of the current generation of Australian children and adolescents face a large array
of both biophysical and/or psychosocial health issues which not only affects their quality
of life but also has an impact on the health of the population in the future, and the health
of society in a much broader sense (Eckersley 2008). After thorough research into the
health impediments the youth of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The accumulation of fat is a reflection of energy imbalance, when more energy is
consumed through the consumption of food and drink than is expended through
physical activity. (Coles Ruthishauser Seelig, 2001; AIHW, 2016) Epidemiological
studies show a steady trend of increasing obesity prevalence among children and
adolescents particularly over the past two decades, internationally (WHO 2000;
Department of Health 2003; NCHS 2004). The prevalence of overweight and obesity in
Australian children and adolescents has notably increased in all age groups for both
males and females over the past few decades. (Booth et al. 2003; Magarey et al. 2001).
Growing evidence also suggests, both nationally and internationally, children are more
likely to be overweight if they come from families with lower socioeconomically status.
(Power Parsons 2000; Booth et al. 2001; Tennant et al. 2003). Back in 1995, an estimated
4.7% of males and 5.5% of female children aged 7 15 years were obese and a further
15.3% of males and 16.0% of females were overweight. (Margarey et al. 2001) In the ten
years preceding 1995, the prevalence of obesity had tripled (Magarey et al. 2001). From
a survey of NSW primary school children ages 7 11 years in 2000, the prevalence of
overweight was as high as 26.2% in boys and 28.4% in girls. The prevalence of obesity
was recorded to be as
International Relations As A Theoretical Perspective
International relations is filled with a lot of different theories and perspectives that try
predict and make sense of the events and situations that occurs between countries. While
no theory is perfect the best two perspectives to know in order to understand international
relations are realism and constructivism. Although constructivism is a good theoretical
perspective I believe it ultimately it falls short of giving a true understanding of
everything that goes into international relations. In the long run the best theoretical
perspective to help someone get a full understanding of international relations is Realism.
Realism is a theoretical perspective used to understand international relations between
countries. Realist rely on the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Which Bashar al Assad Syria s president has allowed Russia to keep there in return for
protection and good trade relationships. This is where the civil war in Syria comes into
play, if Assad loses control of Syria; then Russia would lose control of its Tartus naval
base. Russia wouldn t be involved in Syria s conflicts if it didn t affect how powerful
they are as a country. With Tartus being Russia s only base in the Mediterranean, it is
obvious that they want to keep that presence there, so they don t lose what influence
they have in that region of the world. America, Russia and China have the top three
militaries in the world and if Russia loses control of Tartus they become the only
country of these three to not have some military base in the Mediterranean. This is
why Russia is fighting so hard to keep Assad in office, because they don t want to lose
that power. Another example of Realism is President Obama interest in the United
Kingdom possibly separating the European Union. While holding a press conference in
London with UK s Prime Minister James Cameron, President Obama spoke about his
interest in the UK leaving the EU. While the president did state that he believes it is in
the UK s best interest to stay in the EU, the president also mentioned that the UK staying
also benefits America as well. The EU is one of America s most prominent trading
partners and if the UK leaves the EU this would drastically change the dynamic of trades
between America and the

Pearl Harbor
The movie Pearl Harbor directed and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer was released in
2001. This highly praised movie allows the audience to carefully watch a movie that is
based on a day that started the United States involvement in World War II. The movie
begins with a two boys, Danny Walker and Rafe McCawley, who have grown up hoping

excitement, and hardships of being involved in the war. Rafe is one of the best fighter

Cut and paste history , according to Collingwood, a historian who feels that you
should look at the facts, times and dates. He feels that cut and paste history a person is
able to accomplish the most amount of objectivity because they are doing their best to
prevent analysis and/or assumptions. Cut and paste history is more accurate because
emotions and feelings should not be involved. However, when studying history
through a movie this type of history would be difficult to sell to the audience, so
producers and directors go back to scientific history. Scientific history is used because
emotions, feelings and interpretations make the movie sell. He draws our attention by
involving our emotions; we follow the love triangle that is made between Lt. Evelyn,
Danny, and Rafe. We watch a desperate young girl, Betty, who hopes to meet someone
she can spend the rest of her life with. She lies to the government to become a nurse.
She puts her life at a possible risk in hope to find love. These are a few examples of the
emotions that are attached to the movie making the viewer look at the movie in a
different perspective, which often distracts the audience from what actually happened.
For example the movie Yamamoto is viewed as a brilliant commander who outwitted the
United States with a surprise attack, when in actuality the Japanese knew the

Human Conditions and Existentialism
In 21st century, what is the most important of human conditions? Is it money?
Happiness? What characteristics make this condition? Greed? In Kafka s story,
Metamorphosis, Gregor s family sees Gregor turning into a bug as a random occurrence.
Through this essay, we can see how the characters reflect in a selfish way and human
condition. Also, how the Kafka s story related with another story in the forms of
existentialism. First of all, the definition of human condition is the characteristics, and
behavior traits of the human. The human condition answers three questions: Why am I
here? What does it mean to be a human? How should I live my life? (video)Throughout
this unit, we read numerous short stories. Each of the stories reflected to the human
conditions. One specific example story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story of Metamorphosis is about a man named Gregor Samsa, who gave his life to
his family, so he was the only one who work and bring money to the family. The whole
family relied on him even his father. But when he turned into a bug, the family started to
ignore him because he doesn t bring money to them anymore. But on the other hand, his
father started to balance himself into a work since Gregor can t work. The existentialism
is related to this story by telling us that choice is the opportunity of the individual. We
have to balance our life such as work and leisure from the Metamorphosis. If we don t
balance our life with each other, then we are living a life like what happen to Gregor.
Also, we should find our self identity in the society we live in. It is because if we don t
know our identity, then it is also living a wasteful life since they don t know what they

Overall, the experimental results were similar to the results needed to identify the
cobalt ammine halide coordination complex. The color of the compound was dark

the synthesized cobalt compound had little to no errors. The percent yield of the
compound was not 100% due to small errors throughout experiments such as losing
some of the compound during transferring, more liquid evaporating than desired, and
not measuring volume to exact accuracy and precision every time. For example, when

Many factors all played a role as to why the Constitution in our modern days today are
affecting we the people. Anywhere from the balance of power of that to the role of the

upon us as Americans because of what our Founding Fathers had done for us in the past.
Our government s main activity was to control the foreign policy and conclude treaties.
But, of course such a thing could not be done when we owed about 42 million (more

Shays Rebellion is the name given to a series of protests in 1786 and 1787 by American

Massachusetts, a former captain in the Continental army. It all began summer of 1786 in
Massachusetts. The rebels had tried to capture the federal arsenal at Springfield and

that if bees do die out, humanity could be severely affected. INTRODUCTION:
Attention Getter: Bees are dying at an alarming rate and we just don t know why!
Introduction to Topic: Actually, contrary to that meme, we actually do know why, and
I will be telling you why. Relevance: According to an article done by the USDA, The
number of honey bee hives in the U.S has decreased from 6 million in the 1940s to 2.5
million in 2017 ( Being Serious about Saving Bees ). Now, if all the bees start to die,
then thousands of plants will also die and certain beloved foods will also die. Thesis:
Now it s important to recognize that bees are not just a meme, but that if bees do die
out, humanity could be severely affected. Preview: The demise of bees is mainly
attributed to none other than parasites and pesticides. Body: Transition Statement:
Now let us take a look at one of the factors why bees are dying. 1: Parasites, bees are
mainly dying due to life threatening parasites. 1A: There is the parasite called the
varroa destructor, also known as the vampire mite since it feeds by drinking on the
blood of bees. The Varroa Destructor tends to enter a bee brooding cell before the hive
bees cover the cell with a wax capping. The mites then feed on the

emissions and a cap trade coalition to address the emission from power plants in their
territory. In 2005, the above mentioned states with the exception of RI and MA signed
a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that outlined the model rules for the
program. Some of the topics outlined in RGGI Model Rule include: the responsibilities
of the account representatives, permitting recommendations, monitoring requirements,
compliance certification reports, control periods and others. The Model Rules were
also the building blocks used to develop state specific regulations supporting the goals
and actions necessary to succeed as a member. In 2007 MA, RI and MD also signed
the MOU (RGGI, 2015a; RGGI, 2015b). On January 1, 2012, RGGI lost one of its
founding members after the governor of NJ; Chris Christie withdrew NJ s support to the
initiative. Throughout its participation, NJ received over $100 million in revenues
directly from the RGGI markets. (Christie, 2011) The
Plastic Pollution On The Marine Environment
Effects of Plastic Pollution on the Marine Environment Concern over increasing
quantities of marine microplastic pollution has increased substantially in the last decade,
becoming a focus for many local and national governments, intergovernmental
organizations, environmental advocacy groups, and the private sector. In financial terms,
conservative estimates place the harm to marine ecosystems at $13 billion annually.
While the available literature on microplastic pollution impacts has grown due to this
increased interest, research into the subject is at an early stage relative to other areas of
inquiry. Further, research into the effects and sources of microplastic uptake in marine
environments have been largely dependent on laboratory experimental studies, due the
technical difficulties in analyzing microplastics in the field. This paper sets out to
describe the ecological impacts of marine microplastic pollution as they are currently
known: the various types of microplastics and their distinct potentials for environmental
harm; the sources of and vectors for microplastic contamination; known effects on marine
organisms; and concludes with a discussion of legislative/regulatory solutions to date and
potential next steps. Overall, neither the direct nor long term effects of microplastic
pollution in the field are thoroughly understood. The quantity of microplastics in the
ocean is set to continue to increase, largely due to three factors; 1) the large volume of
Impact Of Tecumseh On Native American Culture
Even though I was left to wonder what the Native Americans felt about the production of
Tecumseh, the re enactment of the Native American Shawnee tribe was very forward
thinking and not just a theatrical. From the start of having dinner in a family style setting
with several others, whom we did not know, to meeting the cast at the end, invoked the
feeling of unity. Tecumsehis a great example of bringing different cultures for the
common good of all people. The support of locals to preserve history, both Native
American and American, has to be respected.
My family was with me one evening when I received a work order to a Chillicothe,
Ohios Adena Regional Hospital. Not thinking much of it, we all piled into the truck for
another adventure discovering Ohio s beauty. Undenounced to me, my significant other
had thought of a great new family experience, Tecumseh. As we were heading into the
hospital, she announced that after I was done working we would be going to see
Tecumseh! By now, I and the kids were ready for any of her crazy adventures. We all

Based on the social cultural state that was instilled in me as a young child, I always
noticed Native Americans. They were a part of our everyday life even though they
were segregated from us. We went to school together and worked together but Native
Americans lived on the reservation. Many Native Americans made a living by selling
traditional items: Turquoise jewelry, arrowheads, pottery, and even food. Other races
would not dare try to copycat what they were doing. Native Americans even had their
own markets. Many stuck to the traditions and sometimes it was open to the public.
Most of the traditional ceremonies were held on the Reservation. For me to attend a
theatrical production of Native Americans felt very odd. I had the sense of betraying

The Advantages Of Database Management Systems
Assignment 1
Matthew Fisher
May 15, 2016
Part 1: Database Concepts
Topic 1: The Advantages of Database Management Systems
A database system would offer the innkeepers several advantages over the flat file
system, including enforced data integrity, minimized effort to adapt data into usable
information, and abstraction.
Storing data in a flat file system, as the innkeepers do, and accessing the data directly
pose problems of data integrity. Anomalous data could easily arise if the innkeepers
update a record in one file, but do not take care to update related records in other files.
Where data are kept in multiple, separate files, but have a conceptual relationship to
each other, a file system is of limited use compared to a database management system
(DBMS). A DBMS ensures that relationships between entities are enforced.
By way of example, a GUEST entity might have a GUEST_ID attribute that appears in
multiple locations (e.g. a RESERVATIONS entity). In the file system model, the
innkeepers may choose to store addresses of guests in both GUEST and
RESERVATION files in order to quickly access address information while booking
reservations. If the address is updated in one place, but not the other, this results in a data
anomaly, where the address attributes for a guest do not agree. A well designed database
using a DBMS could circumvent this issue by storing no guest information in the
RESERVATION table other than GUEST_ID. With this relationship, guests addresses

Differences Between Football And Sports
Football is a sport that is highly regarded all around the globe. The sport has immense
popularity where the UEFA Champions League final attracts an estimated of 350
million viewers each year]. Football has had great success globally where there is an
estimated of 250 million Football players worldwide]. Despite the sport s tremendous
influence and popularity, various countries have found it difficult to integrate Football as
a regularly played sport, and two notable countries are the United Statesand Ireland. Both
the United States and Ireland have had similarities, with similarities ranging from both
countries sense of differentiation from that of Britain, and differences such as their
overall attempts to be involved with the sport,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, Ireland had the same situation with the sport of Football. After being
conquered by the British empire in the 16th century, Ireland developed resentment
towards the British because of the mistreatment and the dominance Britain tried to
impose over Ireland. Regardless of the sensation of nationalism in Ireland, British culture
was heavily influential, but one man realized that Ireland needed a cultural revitalization.
In 1984, Michael Cusack, founder of the Gaelic Athletic Association, sent a letter
between him and Archbishop T.W. Croke which was published in both The Nation
and The Freeman s Journal. In the letter, Cusack asked Croke if he was willing to
become a patron of the GAA; willingly, Croke supported the association. Croke makes
importance of why Ireland should disband from British culture as he explains we had
better once, and publicly, adjure our nationality, clap hands for joy at the sight of the
Union Jack, and place England s bloody red exultingly above the green. ] Croke
highlights that if Ireland continue in the same direction, Ireland is submitting to the
British and their culture. If this is case, then Ireland should completely disregard their
culture and exchange their flag for Britain s Union Jack. He believes that
Hip Replacement Research Paper
Over three hundred thousand hip replacements were performed in 2010. A two hundred
percent increase from 2000. The number of replacements has continued to grow as
recovery from the surgery has become much faster. Although recovery time has
decreased, patients are still at risk of infection from their bodies rejecting the metal
replacement hip. Infection from the bodies reaction to the metal hip will soon become a
problem of the past as researchers have begun making replacement hips out of bone like
material infused with antibiotics. These new replacements will allow the body to heal
with the new structure instead of fighting the foreign material. Patients will recover even
faster with less chance of infection. Each patient s hip will be custom made to model the
patient s bone with a new technique called Fused Filament Fabrication... Show more

The SM process is the complete opposite of AM. During SM, a machine cuts material
layer by layer, leaving the desired shape. The SM machine has three basic components,
which are a movable head, a bit to cut, and the material. To visualize the subtractive
manufacturing (SM) process, imagine making a model car from a stick of butter. Your
hands act as the machines head positioning the butter knife in your hand, which acts as
the bit, to make precise cuts into the butter. You continue to follow the cutting
instructions given to you and what started as a block is now a model car. That s how
SM works. Because of SM s extensive use, a standard symbolic language known as
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD T) has been developed to ensure
manufacturers can fully understand designer s designs. GD T standards for SM specify
geometry, material, tolerances, surface finish, design intent and acceptable variations in
geometry. These standards ensure manufacturers produce products that meet the designers

Comparing The Afterlife In Greek Mythology And Christianity
Introduction to the Greek mythology in the 21st century, not many religions believe in
the afterlife. The religions that believed in the existence of the afterlife were Christians,
Islamic, and a few pagan systems. Greek mythology and Christianity both believe in the
same afterlife but have different names for it. This Greek mythologyparallels the afterlife
of Christianity because they believe in God and believe that when they die they will go
to heaven or hell.
The certainty that an indispensable part of one s self endures after the decease of the
physical body is called the afterlife. The belief in extinction after death is in contrast with
the conviction in the afterlife, which many perceive as supernatural. In Christian religion
they believe that human can be reborn into the same world with different identify they
will begin an new cycle all over again for them (Gray 14). They believe that this rebirth
and death continues until the individual gains access to the spiritual dominion.

A Further Analysis Of Report Of Wild Children Essay
Another important factor that plays a role in the development of the monster and feral
children is the presence of abuse and trauma. Abuse and trauma play a role in the
development of the creature and feral children because it affect their cognition, behavior,
their idea of self worth, and their ability to connect with others. Wayne Dennis s essay, A
Further Analysis of Reports of Wild Children , asserts that because of being in conditions
of constant stress and threat [from abuse and trauma], children may have trouble utilizing
their cognitive skills (155). Furthermore, Dennis asserts that because of the conditions
that the children experienced they exhibited behaviors that can be only be conveyed as
erratic and volatile (153). In addition,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are also true for the monster. The presence of abuse and trauma during the
development of the monster affected his cognition, behavior, his idea of self worth,
and his ability to connect with others. The monster having experienced abuse and
trauma from his interaction with humans before, he become traumatized with
violence. This is highlighted when he saw Felix was about to strike him for the
second time he was overcome by pain and anguish, [he] quitted the cottage (Shelley
95) to escape. Furthermore, his behavior also becomes erratic and volatile. This is
shown when he wished to tear up the trees, spread havoc and destruction, and then sit
down and enjoy the ruin (Shelley 95) after his interaction with the De Laceys. In
addition, it is evident that his perception of himself is as a wretch , even saying All
men hate the wretched; how then must I be hated, who am miserable beyond all living
things! (Shelley 67 68). Finally, because of his experience with the barbarity of man ,
he is very cautious when approaching other people. This was displayed when he longed
to join [the De Laceys], but dared

Industrialization In Upton Sinclair s The Jungle
Although it was a shocking and revolutionary exposure to the hazardous environment of
the meat packing plants of Chicago in 1906, The Jungle, written by Upton Sinclair,
proves to still be relevant in modern day due strains of bacterial diseases contaminating
meat and produce, and causing illness to the public. In its time, the content of The Jungle
was supposed to illustrate the demeaning means of which labor was carried out in a new
world of industrialization. Sinclair had a goal of exposing the horrid lifestyle impeded
on a certain immigrant worker (and many more in the same situations), and ended up
causing a revolutionary change in the working conditions of meat packing factories in
cities all across the United States. President Theodore... Show more content on

Initially, the outbreak and recall was set for bagged spinach on September 14th, but
the very next day the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recalled all spinach, both
bagged and fresh. The outbreak was due to a suspected E. coli O157:H7. Because of
the outbreak, 200 people were reported to the CDC from 26 states as having been
infected with that particular outbreak strain; more than 100 of those cases were
hospitalized, and 31 of them developed a form of kidney failure, which resulted in the
deaths of three people. So why is a breakout that may only have affected 200 people so
important and relevant to everyone? It s important to make sure that our food is
edible and not contaminated because in this situation with spinach according to data
collected through surveys nearly half (48%) of Americans reported that they ate fresh
spinach before the recall and did so frequently. There was no complete resolution on
the exact cause of E. Coli on spinach, but it was believed to be from samples taken
from a stream and from feces of cattle and wild pigs present on ranches, due to a
genetic match from those who were infected. For some consumers, the spinach recall
may be a type of signal event indicating a wider problem that they do not yet see as
having been solved. Although spinach is something that is generally looked at as healthy
to its consumers, it is apparent that there is still a problem with the safety and health
concerning fresh produce for the public. This occurrence in 2006 was a turning point for
many, realizing that even what should be our freshest food can be contaminated, and that
more effort needs to be taken in order to protect the public from
Euthanasia Is A Form Of Doctor Assisted Suicide
Euthanasia is a form of doctor assisted suicide. There are many different types of
Euthanasia and all are currently illegal in the United States with the exception of the state
of Oregon. When a patient is being Euthanized they can be given an injection
intravenously which causes their death this is called Euthanasiaby action. A person could
also be assisted to deaththrough euthanasia by omission; this is when the patient is not
provided with the appropriate things such as food or water. Also patients can be given a
medication that renders them into a deep sleep in which they are left to die, either
through the progression of their illness or through starvation. The most important aspect
of doctor assisted suicideis whether it is voluntary, involuntary or non voluntary. The
difference between non voluntary and involuntary is that non voluntary is when the
patient does not request to be euthanized but they are. Involuntary euthanization is
when a person specifically asks that they not be euthanized and they are. Although
euthanasia is illegal some forms of it are still regularly practiced in today s healthcare
system. Euthanasia dates back to as early as 1828 when the first law was written to
outlaw anyone from providing a person with a dangerous weapon and or a harmful
chemical that would knowingly be used in the taking of a person s own life. This would
include taking the life of another person with their permission. In 1920 the book

As the saying goes, necessity is the mother of invention. With literally no marketing
budget, startups are forced to seek the optimal and probably most basic way of seeking
customers: Focus on who they are and where they are. You can t spend millions of
dollars to build your brand name and mindshare before influencing the consumers to
purchase your product. So, what do you do? You tweak your product until it meets their
needs and you hit the viral button to make growth sky rocket exponentially. It is a
matter of survival for startups. You have no luxury of time nor money as it is a matter of
life and death for your business. The whole company is focused on the same goal: Get
the product right for the customers to justify the existence of the startup.
We now have a term for this: Growth Hacking. This term was coined by Sean Ellis in
2010 where he blog about a growth hacker as a person whose true north is growth.
Everything they do is scrutinized by its potential impact on scalable growth . This term

Ageing
4. Discuss the physical and psychological changes associated with normal ageing. How
can one minimise pathological ageing?
The process of aging has been around as long as life itself. All living organisms pass
through three broad stages from conception to death, which are maturation, maturity and
aging. Aging affects everyone because nearly everyone has the potential to grow old and
all the societies in which we live have older members (Macdonald, 1997). Gerontology is
the use of reason to understand aging. The term was used to refer to the scientific study
of aging, but nowadays it includes the study of aging using views from other disciplines
such as humanities, social policy and human services. To correctly understand aging,...

In order to counter act this one must maintain regular and also suitable exercise. One
must take into consideration the exercise tolerance in relation to his/her current age.
Change to healthier lifestyle by quitting smoking as this can have a direct relationship
and can worsen the breathlessness. It is important to not mix mild shortness of breath
that does not affect normal daily activities with shortness of breath at low exercise level
and wheezing as these may be symptoms of chronic bronchitis, asthma or heart failure.
Digestive System
A common change related to normal aging is changes that affect the digestive system.
The most common one observed in old age is constipation (Macdonald, 1997). In order
to minimise constipation it is essential or eat a fibre rich diet with more vegetables and
fruit. Also maintaining regular exercise can also reduce the chance of developing
constipation. Stools with blood or mucus are not part of normal ageing.
Urination
In normal ageing changes in urination also occurs. It is seen that there is more frequent
urination at night (Matteson et al., 1998). In order to minimise this pathological aspect
of normal ageing, it is suggested to avoid fluid intake one hour before sleeping. It is
important to distinguish between difficulty or pain while passing urine as this may be
due to urinary tract infections and for men as well as
The Great Depression and The Global Economy
Since the great depression, the global economy has been facing a number of ups and
downs. With the markets being built rapidly and crashing down in the other instant,
elements that actually make up the skeleton of the international economy seems to have
correlated variables. These variables seems to have been correlated with each other in
numerous combinations and their correlation is what makes the market fluctuate. The
volatility of the global market becomes more apparent in times of recessionwhen the
correlation between variables like stocks, bonds, US dollar, Euro, gold and oil becomes
more apparent. Therefore, it is of paramount importance that these correlated variables
should be studied with a very keen eye. Since the link between currencies, commodities,
stocks an bonds runs very deep, change in any one of them seems to have a profound
impact on the rest hence changing the face of the market.
Background:
One way to describe the correlation between the major assets of the international trade is
that it should be seen as what compels the market that create dynamics between these
variables. During long periods of prosperity and financial stability, players of the
international trade ease up about the risk of loss either through a systematic
underestimation of those risks, or a decline in their risk assessment tactics due to
increasing wealth, or both. This aversion to the idea of risk and keeping that period of
prosperity continuous makes the investors greedy, and
Shakespeare s The Taming Of The Farew And The Taming Of...
ENGLISH
The Taming of the Shrew , is one of William Shakespeare s most celebrated works in
history and is known to be one of his most comedic pieces of literature. With its
lighthearted sense of a late 1500 s Elizabethan era work, the famous play showed many
relevant ideologies of society according to its particular era in history. Many of
Shakespeare s works have been adapted into successful films that were made to suit the
society of a new and different age, for example, his piece The Taming of the Shrew, has
been formed into several films and short films. In my opinion, it just shows that
Shakespeare s writings are still relevant today and forever will be timeless.
The most famous remakes of the of the 1500 s play, were Gil Junger s 1999 adaptation
10 Things I Hate About You, and Franco Zeffirelli s 1967 version of The Taming of the
Shrew . Both films show elements of similar society ideologies, such as masculinity and
femininity which are portrayed through the main characters; Katherine, Kat, Petruchio
and Patrick. Some characters show signs of severe misogynistic characteristics, for
example, as the dominant Petruchio tames the dominant Katherine until she is
submissive. To help corroborate with this is the quote For I am be born to tame you
Kate, And bring you from a wild Kate to a Kate. Conformable as other household Kates.
This quote proves that he believes Katherine should be like other females and that he
wants to control her until she composes to his

Certainly, the main reason why it becomes part of the trail is because people with great
contributions in the country like Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, and the parents of

the name Samuel Adams or Paul Revere, this place is just plots with dead bodies. Brief
histories of famous personalities buried are displayed near the cemetery s entrance;
however, they are very nominal and someone who does not have background in American
history would not understand. A Japanese tourist mentioned that perhaps they should also
deliver these descriptions in Japanese, Korean, and Chinese, which will be appropriate
for the diverse races of international students and visitors in Boston. Nevertheless, the
style and architecture of the granaries, in general, can also be considered as an American
vintage. Thus, tourists who are not aware about the people buried in the cemetery might
just settle taking pictures with the fascinating gravestones as their background.

  • 2. African Imperialism DBQ European powers shamelessly exploited the people and resources of Africa in the 19th century. They often tried to justify their actions by using ideology, religion and moralism. After the end of the African slave trade, the development of steam power, and medical discovery, European nations started exploring not only the coast but also the unmapped interior of the continent. In this essay, I will explain the main driving forces behind African Imperialism. The Western europeans countries all competed for land and resources because of their self interest. They sought natural resources, and technology gave them the ability to exploit them. The philosophy of national pride however, was the primary reason. (Main document) (Doc C, D B) The technical advances in the early and middle part of the 19th century enabled Western European powers to exploit imperial objectives in Africa. Among these advances were the steam engine, extraction of quinine, invention of the telegraph, steal processing and improved weaponry. The steam engine was important in increasing the speed and reliability of transportation. Extracting quinine from the bark of the cinchona tree helped treat malaria; a mosquito borne disease that killed thousands; it was now possible to survive in the interior of Africa. The telegraph was invented in 1837 and allowed fast communication over long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These countries wanted their most worthy citizens to be part of their imperial desires, which lead to a philosophy of their ideals, religion and morals being developed. They meant that they could justify the colonies and labor based on the superiority of their culture, and the need to spread it to other cultures. When doing this, local cultures often destroyed, and people lost a sense of their identity. (Doc
  • 3. John Stewart Mill s The Subjection Of Women In chapter III of The Subjection of Women, John Stewart Mill contends with the claims that women are unfit to hold public office, due to their mental weakness, nervous energy, and their inability to focus on singular problems. He also refutes the claim that women are inherently unequal because they have not had the same successes as men in various fields. In Chapter IV, Mill lays out his arguments for why granting women more freedom would be beneficial in that it would increase utility. He begins by asserting that child rearing, in his time, bolsters injustice, and has a negative impact on the character of men. He then argues that women s equality would double the mental faculties of society. He further argues that women who are uneducated have a bad influence upon men, and that increasing women s liberty would have a betterimpact on society as a whole. Finally, he argues that further genderequality would allow women to understand when sacrifices need be made for the betterment of society. Mill s arguments are sound, however he misses opportunities to strengthen his claims. This essay concludes with some additional arguments that Mill could have added to increase the effectiveness of his arguments. In Chapter III of The Subjection of Women, Mill addresses and criticizes arguments that have claimed that women are inferior to men. The first argument he addresses is that women are unfit to hold public because they are mentally inferior. To argue against this idea, Mill
  • 4. Photography And The Carnegie Museum Of Natural History 1.Introduction I chose this article for the sole reason that I am a photographer so when I read that we could choose the topic of our paper I wanted to find out how photography and sociology can relate more to each other and what types of articles there are on the library website that I can read to get more of and understanding for how sociology and photography go hand in hand with each other. Therefore, obviously, the main topic is Sociology in Photography and how to build solidarity with subjects and the audience. I also found this to be an interesting topic because just last night I went to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History where I got to hear 6 of 11 women photographers from National Geographic speak about their work and they talked a lot about like understanding their subjects and how to build solidarity with their subjects before they photographed them and how to find a way to show the subject to the audience. It was a really wonderful experience to not only look at their works but to also hear them speak and I think that this journal I choose really relates to that which is another good reason I choose it. The research questions being answered within this article are how to build solidarity with your subject , how to build solidarity with your audience , how to connect local and global issues with audience and how to build an audience network. 2.Method From reading this article and then reviewing the reference section of the article, I strongly

One of the primary benefits of this program would be the information and resource sharing. Today s military forces currently hold a level of operational experience not seen in decades. For over ten years our forces have been increasing their effectiveness in a multitude of security and reconstruction efforts. As the level of violence along the border increases the US Customs and Border Agents are face with a new kind of enemy tactics that can be perceived as middle ground between current border operations in Afghanistan and the historical security issues along the border. A melding of the military tactics used to train Afghani security force on the protection of their own border, historical US Customs and Border tactics and techniques along with effective rules of engagement can reduce violence and illegal cross border flows. An initial cross training between military tactics subject matter experts, military mission planning subject matter experts and operational Customs and Border Patrol agents can be much more efficient and effective than training a group of new agents. The ground tactics force is not the only aspect of this effort; their primary mission should be the security of the engineering and construction force and surveillance of the borders such similar to the efforts of Operation Jump Start (Greenhill. 2006 / pg25). The Village Valle del Sole is located in one of the most isolated parts in Italy, so people living there are easily influenced by the lore that is going around the whole village. For example, throughout the novel, it is shown how important the chicken symbolises to people He had a fight with his neighbor about a chicken. His neighbor came over with a shotgun, they started shouting and screaming, and pom! the next thing you know, his hand is gone (Ricci 20) . From this incident, it can be deduced that even an animal such as a chicken could be considered precious due to their superstitions during that era. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why Vittorio would make up a charm in the middle of the chicken ceremony? Not only that this proof shows that Vittorio is superstitious, but that he has the imagination of chanting these words to increase the mood of the ceremony. Last but not least is Vittorio s lucky coin. When the flames from the chicken starts to grow, he had taken my lucky coin from my pocket now and was rubbing it furiously, hoping to calm the spirits (Ricci 119). The lucky coin that Vittorio has is a symbol of life since actually before it saved Luciano s life, so he thought that it would be good to be given Vittorio since he will take care of it. On the other hand, when Cristina was found in the barn by Vittorio, she had already chop off the head of the chicken with blood staining in her hands, this doesn t necessary mean that Cristina is performing the chicken ceremony since the process requires [...] cut out the heart to put in your soup later [...] (Ricci 54) and when Vittorio carries out the ceremony secretly by himself, he found out later that I had forgotten to cut out the chicken s heart (Ricci 120) . This shows evidence that Cristina is not necessarily performing the chicken ceremony in the barn to turn it into an offering for God, but maybe she is doing it to 3 make soup. It is proven that in the book when Vittorio is

Gsm ( Global System For Mobile Communication Acknowledgement At first I want to express gratitude to the Almighty Allah for his endless kindness to give me the chance to work under tremendous supervision of my honorable teacher Dr. Arshad M. Chowdhury to give me the opportunity to work on an enormous task. Objective: GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) is a digital mobile telephony system which is TDMA based wireless network technology developed widely in Europe and other parts of the world. GSM uses a variation of time division multiple access (TDMA) and is the most widely used of the three digital wireless telephony technologies (TDMA, GSM, and CDMA). GSM digitizes and compresses data, then sends it down a channel with two other streams of user data, each in its own time slot. GSM phones make use of a SIM card to identify the user s account. The use of the SIM card allows GSM network users to quickly move their phone number from one GSM phone to another by simply moving the SIM card. Currently GSM networks operate on the 850MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz, and 1900MHz frequency bands. Devices that support all four bands are called quad band, with those that support 3 or 2 bands called tri band and dual band, respectively. In the United States, Cingular operates on the 850 and 1900MHz bands, while T Mobile operates only on the 1900MHz band. GSM security: Security is the degree of protection against damages, danger, loss and crime. In our days, the need for security makes many people look for different ways in
  • 8. Family Values Essay Like many, I was raised in a family whose beliefs and morals were of high standing. I was able to avoid numerous situations that otherwise could have proved fatal to my mental, physical, and spiritual state. However, while my situation allowed me to grow up in a relatively safe environment, others of my associate were not so fortunate. One friend of mine in particular grew up in a household where their moral standards and beliefs caused much confusion and pain in her life. Besides participating in alcoholic parties, having lower dress standards, and reviling in acts of dishonesty, my friend also had a habit of sleeping around. In grade six she fell pregnant and, while I do not know all the details, she had to skip most of her schooling that year. This is only a short glimpse of what was in store for her, as she battled familyissues by participating in drinking and sexual activities in order to escape family issues. While drinking on its own is detrimental to one s health, the act in participating in sexual activities and lowering ones moral standards is even more detrimental, both to the individual and their family. Thus the necessity or moralityincorporates the roles of both parents and children within the family to stay morally clean. The role of parents in the family unit is vital; they are the ones that set the example for future generations to follow. As parents, each role is unique and well prepared to suit their children with their best characteristics as mothers

Significance Of The Hollywood Sign The Hollywood Sign The Symbol of a Land of Fantasy Hollywood in Los Angeles, California could be called a Land of Fantasy and one of its most famous symbols is the Hollywood Sign. It sits on top of Mount Lee in Griffith Park and towers over Hollywood. The original sign was built in 1923 and was done as a publicity ploy to encourage people to purchase homes in the subdivision known as Hollywoodland located along Beachwood Canyon. One of the promoters for the sign was Mack Sennet however the sign wasn t meant to last forever, only for a year and a half. The Hollywood Sign cost $21,000 to build and each of the letters was 30 ft. wide and 50 ft. high. Studded with light bulbs the sign could be seen for miles around. However there was the constant problem of maintenance and vandalism and finally maintenance of the sign was discontinued in 1939. Late in 1944 the H. Sherman Company became the owner of around 435 acres of land adjoining Griffith Park including the sign. They took down the word land and now the sign simply read Hollywood. This time is of great importance as it is crucial to establish positive health and social behaviours (AIHW, 2011). A large portion of the current generation of Australian children and adolescents face a large array of both biophysical and/or psychosocial health issues which not only affects their quality of life but also has an impact on the health of the population in the future, and the health of society in a much broader sense (Eckersley 2008). The accumulation of fat is a reflection of energy imbalance, when more energy is consumed through the consumption of food and drink than is expended through physical activity. (Coles Ruthishauser Seelig, 2001; AIHW, 2016) Epidemiological studies show a steady trend of increasing obesity prevalence among children and adolescents particularly over the past two decades, internationally (WHO 2000; Department of Health 2003; NCHS 2004). The prevalence of overweight and obesity in Australian children and adolescents has notably increased in all age groups for both males and females over the past few decades. The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative RGGI Overview The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is a cap and trade initiative set to regulate and reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases from power generating facilities with an electrical capacity equal or greater than 25 electrical megawatts (RGGI, 2015). The drafting of this initiative started in 2003 when Connecticut (CT), Delaware (DE), Maine (ME), Massachusetts (MA), New Hampshire (NH), New Jersey (NJ), New York (NY), Rhode Island (RI), and Vermont (VT) showed interest in reviewing greenhouse gas emissions and a cap trade coalition to address the emission from power plants in their territory. In 2005, the above mentioned states with the exception of RI and MA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that outlined the model rules for the program. Some of the topics outlined in RGGI Model Rule include: the responsibilities of the account representatives, permitting recommendations, monitoring requirements, compliance certification reports, control periods and others. The Model Rules were also the building blocks used to develop state specific regulations supporting the goals and actions necessary to succeed as a member. While the available literature on microplastic pollution impacts has grown due to this increased interest, research into the subject is at an early stage relative to other areas of inquiry. Further, research into the effects and sources of microplastic uptake in marine environments have been largely dependent on laboratory experimental studies, due the technical difficulties in analyzing microplastics in the field. This paper sets out to describe the ecological impacts of marine microplastic pollution as they are currently known: the various types of microplastics and their distinct potentials for environmental harm; the sources of and vectors for microplastic contamination; known effects on marine organisms; and concludes with a discussion of legislative/regulatory solutions to date and potential next steps. Overall, neither the direct nor long term effects of microplastic pollution in the field are thoroughly understood. The quantity of microplastics in the ocean is set to continue to increase, largely due to three factors; 1) the large volume of

The Advantages Of Database Management Systems Assignment 1 Matthew Fisher May 15, 2016 Part 1: Database Concepts Topic 1: The Advantages of Database Management Systems A database system would offer the innkeepers several advantages over the flat file system, including enforced data integrity, minimized effort to adapt data into usable information, and abstraction. Storing data in a flat file system, as the innkeepers do, and accessing the data directly pose problems of data integrity. Anomalous data could easily arise if the innkeepers update a record in one file, but do not take care to update related records in other files. Where data are kept in multiple, separate files, but have a conceptual relationship to each other, a file system is of limited use compared to a database management system (DBMS). A DBMS ensures that relationships between entities are enforced. By way of example, a GUEST entity might have a GUEST_ID attribute that appears in multiple locations (e.g. a RESERVATIONS entity). In the file system model, the innkeepers may choose to store addresses of guests in both GUEST and RESERVATION files in order to quickly access address information while booking reservations. If the address is updated in one place, but not the other, this results in a data anomaly, where the address attributes for a guest do not agree. A well designed database using a DBMS could circumvent this issue by storing no guest information in the RESERVATION table other than GUEST_ID. With this relationship, guests addresses can still

Abuse and trauma play a role in the development of the creature and feral children because it affect their cognition, behavior, their idea of self worth, and their ability to connect with others. Wayne Dennis s essay, A Further Analysis of Reports of Wild Children , asserts that because of being in conditions of constant stress and threat [from abuse and trauma], children may have trouble utilizing their cognitive skills (155). Initially, the outbreak and recall was set for bagged spinach on September 14th, but the very next day the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recalled all spinach, both bagged and fresh. The outbreak was due to a suspected E. coli O157:H7. Because of the outbreak, 200 people were reported to the CDC from 26 states as having been infected with that particular outbreak strain; more than 100 of those cases were hospitalized, and 31 of them developed a form of kidney failure, which resulted in the deaths of three people. So why is a breakout that may only have affected 200 people so important and relevant to everyone? It s important to make sure that our food is edible and not contaminated because in this situation with spinach according to data collected through surveys nearly half (48%) of Americans reported that they ate fresh spinach before the recall and did so frequently. There was no complete resolution on the exact cause of E. Coli on spinach, but it was believed to be from samples taken from a stream and from feces of cattle and wild pigs present on ranches, due to a genetic match from those who were infected. For some consumers, the spinach recall may be a type of signal event indicating a wider problem that they do not yet see as having been solved. All living organisms pass through three broad stages from conception to death, which are maturation, maturity and aging. Aging affects everyone because nearly everyone has the potential to grow old and all the societies in which we live have older members (Macdonald, 1997). Gerontology is the use of reason to understand aging. The term was used to refer to the scientific study of aging, but nowadays it includes the study of aging using views from other disciplines such as humanities, social policy and human services. It is seen that there is more frequent urination at night (Matteson et al., 1998). In order to minimise this pathological aspect of normal ageing, it is suggested to avoid fluid intake one hour before sleeping. It is important to distinguish between difficulty or pain while passing urine as this may be due to urinary tract infections and for men as well as
  • 35. The Great Depression and The Global Economy Since the great depression, the global economy has been facing a number of ups and downs. With the markets being built rapidly and crashing down in the other instant, elements that actually make up the skeleton of the international economy seems to have correlated variables. These variables seems to have been correlated with each other in numerous combinations and their correlation is what makes the market fluctuate. The volatility of the global market becomes more apparent in times of recessionwhen the correlation between variables like stocks, bonds, US dollar, Euro, gold and oil becomes more apparent. Therefore, it is of paramount importance that these correlated variables should be studied with a very keen eye. Since the link between currencies, commodities, stocks an bonds runs very deep, change in any one of them seems to have a profound impact on the rest hence changing the face of the market. Background: One way to describe the correlation between the major assets of the international trade is that it should be seen as what compels the market that create dynamics between these variables. During long periods of prosperity and financial stability, players of the international trade ease up about the risk of loss either through a systematic underestimation of those risks, or a decline in their risk assessment tactics due to increasing wealth, or both. This aversion to the idea of risk and keeping that period of prosperity continuous makes the investors greedy, and

ENGLISH The Taming of the Shrew , is one of William Shakespeare s most celebrated works in history and is known to be one of his most comedic pieces of literature. With its lighthearted sense of a late 1500 s Elizabethan era work, the famous play showed many relevant ideologies of society according to its particular era in history. Many of Shakespeare s works have been adapted into successful films that were made to suit the society of a new and different age, for example, his piece The Taming of the Shrew, has been formed into several films and short films. In my opinion, it just shows that Shakespeare s writings are still relevant today and forever will be timeless. The most famous remakes of the of the 1500 s play, were Gil Junger s 1999 adaptation 10 Things I Hate About You, and Franco Zeffirelli s 1967 version of The Taming of the Shrew . Both films show elements of similar society ideologies, such as masculinity and femininity which are portrayed through the main characters; Katherine, Kat, Petruchio and Patrick. Some characters show signs of severe misogynistic characteristics, for example, as the dominant Petruchio tames the dominant Katherine until she is submissive. To help corroborate with this is the quote For I am be born to tame you Kate, And bring you from a wild Kate to a Kate. Conformable as other household Kates. This quote proves that he believes Katherine should be like other females and that he wants to control her until she composes to his
