In order to determine company s future growth, Ansoff Matrix (1957) has been used as a
strategic planning tool by assessing risk from Product and Market scopes. The figure

customers expectation. In the program on MyCofe Experience, every customer will be

the product of MyCofe with menu order to the customers who are not familiar with them.
Also, in order to improve customer intimacy, staffs are advised to write customer s given

Customer Intimacy helped to build customer loyalty for the long term (Michael Fred,

customer by greeting them while they enter to the shop, introduce and brief them

and remember their preferences. Kotler (2008) stated that in order to create customer
satisfaction and value, the company should offer higher than customer expectation and
customer satisfaction, which can be created via building valued relationship with its
customers. Employees are playing a very important role in this program, therefore,
motivation s program will be introduced to motivate employees with recognition,

Philosophy Of Transactional Leadership

Leadership
Even though leadership dates back centuries, it is critical for leaders to display qualities
that differentiate them from followers (p. 5). To encourage student success, it is
important to practice theories and methodologies that help institution s and individuals
become successful leaders with superior qualities. Transformational and transactional
leadership are two terms that discussed throughout business and education. Transactional
leadership is defined as trading one thing for another (quid pro quo) , whereas
transformational leadership is more focused on change (p. 14). Transactional leaders

1). Research indicated the importance of active learning strategies, over the past few
years, to help maximize the student s education. A well written lesson plan can cover the
course content, maintain student attention, and incorporate the knowledge and skills the
student needs to learn. A skilled educator can scrutinize the learning situation and
differentiate instruction by using all the available resources. I think, to help facilitate
learning, teachers should encourage students to be more responsible for their own
education by engaging them to participate in individual or group activities, including
collaboration with other students, hands on activities, reading, writing, and verbal
presentations. As an educator, I will concentrate on strategies that promote collaboration,
cooperation, and communication. I will concentrate on reading strategies that help
students comprehend what they read. Reading strategies such as, the before, during,
and after reading strategy can be used for reading comprehension. I can use this reading
strategy the first time a new story is read. Before reading the story, I can preview the
story by discussing the topic, using key vocabulary words, activating the student s prior
knowledge, and setting the purpose for reading. During the reading passage, I will stop
and use context clues to help students
How Aerobic Exercise Reduces Oxidative Stress And

Background: The research article entitled Aerobic exercise reduces oxidative stress and
improves vascular changes of small mesenteric and coronary arteries in hypertension
authored by Fernanda R. Roque and colleagues examines the effects of regular physical
activity, namely aerobic exercise training, and its effects on hypertension. Specifically
this study aimed at identifying a non pharmacological treatment (exercise) for
hypertension, with the assumptions that exercise promotes beneficial vascular
remodeling, mechanical, and functional adaptations in the arteries of hypertensive
individuals. This study approached the link between exercise and hypertension by
analyzing spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) response to a twelve week exercise
Prescription. Upon completion of the twelve weeks, measurements of adaptation in
coronary and small mesenteric arteries were examined in effort to deduce the efficacy
of aerobic exercise as a treatment option (Roque, 2012, p. 687). Efforts to discover a
non pharmacological intervention/treatment for hypertension stems from the belief that
prevention via lifestyle modifications (exercise) are not only an effective means of
preventing and controlling hypertension, but also a cost effective health care strategy
(Taylor 2014, p.478). Exercise as a preventative method has been known by researchers
for a long time, specifically in terms of its ability to ameliorate hypertension, and
subsequent cardiovascular disease (CVD) in at risk
Effects of Illegal Insider Trading Essay
Insider trading is a term that most investors have heard and usually associate with illegal
conduct. But the term actually includes both legal and illegal conduct. The legal version
is when corporate insiders officers, directors, and employees buy and sell stock in their
own companies. When corporate insiders trade in their own securities, they must report
their trades to the SEC. Illegal insider tradingrefers generally to buying or selling a
security, in breach of a fiduciaryduty or other relationship of trust and confidence, while
in possession of material, nonpublic information about the security. Insider trading
violations may also include tipping such information, securities trading by the person
tipped, and securities... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, in a case like that of Enron, their stock price was enormous since it was not evident
that they were cooking their books. This would not have happened if insider trading
were legal. Investors would not have lost most of their money investing in a firm like
Enron and taking the hit when they were investigated for insider trading and fraud.
The Enron insiders would have sold their shares and the price would have corrected
itself and the disaster might have been avoided. Investors could have allocated their
money towards more promising investments, which in turn would increase market
efficiency. With legalizing insider trading, stock prices would be more efficient with
the ability to acquire more information. Illegal trading is still common and some may
say it is actually growing. This puts law abiding investors at a disadvantage. Insider
trading bans allow for some comparable behavior. For example, if I were to work for a
company and hear that we were going to post a profit this quarter, I would not sell my
shares. This could be considered insider non trading and is currently legal, but can
basically be considered insider trading. There are plenty of loopholes in the current
system. With increased information, we might be able to smooth the volatility of the
market. It will lessen the exposure to bad information and will benefit the market s
participants. Profits being made from the information will expedite the flow of
information. There is a gray area
All Quiet On The Western Front Essay
All Quiet on the Western Front Essay We learn about past wars in history. We hear
stories from soldiers that partake in these wars, but do we really understand what goes
on out on that battlefield? We would have to see and experience it ourselves to fully
grasp why soldiers come back so scarred. Not only physically but emotionally, and
socially as well. All quiet on the Western Frontby Erich Maria Remarqueis a story told by
a soldier named Paul Baumer. He shares his experiences of his service in World War
one. The realities of the war and the death that surrounded Paul Baumer were so epic
that he didn t even feel like he was himself when he visited home. Dying in a war or
getting injured is considered a courageous act by society. Society doesn t know what the
soldiers go through. If you were a soldier your outlook on war may be a little different.
The injuries are so horrible and the amount... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By telling them this they believed that when they returned from the war they would be
glorified from their town as war heroes. Kantorek set off some excitement for the war
in all of these young men by doing so. When they reached the front they become
conscious that war was no where near how they imagined it would be. Paul then
realized that after a war like this he would not return to society and be able to fit in
ever again. The war totally changed who he once had been. Soldiers go home and don
t know how to act around their families, and the people they grew up with. They have
seen so much death and violence that they don t know what a lifestyle or friendship is.
Life is very different for them. On page 165 Paul says, I am young, I am twenty years
old; yet I know nothing of life but despair death, fear, and fatuous superficiality cast
over an abyss of sorrow. Remarque adds these thoughts by Paul throughout the book.
Paul is over taken by this war and will never be the same person ever
Anomie Strain Theory
In this essay I will be outlining and discussing the ways in which anomie and strain
have contributed to the understanding of crime and criminal behaviour. I will be using
the anomie and strain theories to discuss crime and the development of criminology.
Within criminology there are many theories which try to explain the changes in
society caused by crime and criminal behaviour. Deviant behaviour is described by
theories as, any behaviour that goes against the norms of society. There are many
theories which try to explain how behaviour is classed and why people take part in it.
These are biological, psychological and sociological. There are biological and
psychological contributions to crime which try to explain the reasons for criminal and
deviant behaviour in our society. Biological explanations for crime and deviancy are
that all criminals and deviants have a certain look and they look different from non
criminal people in society. This explanation claims that how someone looks can explain
their chances of becoming a criminal. Inheritance of certain genes in their makeup can
make them more likely to be involved in crime and be a negative impact on society.
There are also psychological explanations for crime, these say that criminals have
different minds to regular people, different personalities can be more likely to be
involved in the deviant behaviour which causes problems in society. It also says that
certain childhood experiences and the influences they have had
Brainwashing You By George Orwell Analysis
History is known to repeat itself, but do stories become real life? Our future resembles
the past of 1984 a novel by George Orwell. In this novel, Orwell depicts a new reign of
totalitarianism which is Big Brother, using propaganda. Dictatorship is still vast as well
as a present issue in several countries throughout the world, including 21 in Africa, 18 in
Asia, 7 in the Middle East, 1 in Europe and 2 in the Americas. 1984 uses propaganda,
brainwashing, and the erasing of the past to create a new way of life that Big Brother

dictatorial that requires complete subservience to the state. Propaganda slogans are used

Under Italian Law two main types of company may be incorporated: S.p.A. (SocietГ per
Azioni) and S.r.l. (SocietГ a responsabilitГ limitata). S.p.A. is the normal form for
larger companies (joint stock companies). An S.p.A. may be listed on the Stock
Exchange although the absolute majority are not. It is however necessary for a
company to be an S.p.A. in order to be listed thereon. S.r.l. in practice corresponds to a
closely held limited company. It is the kind of structure which is more suited to small
tomedium sized enterprises where limited liability is required. This is by far the most
common type of company used by Italian entrepreneurs and that most frequently chosen
by foreign parent companies when setting up their subsidiaries in Italy. The governance
structure of corporations is twotired: the managing board (consiglio di amministrazione)
has the function of ratifying decisions that have been previously taken by the
controlling group, and is supplemented by a board of auditors (collegio sindacale) who
are responsible for internal monitoring. Directors can either be executive or nonexecutive
and there is only a limited number of external directors. They tend to meet only a few
times a year and the meetings are frequently of poor quality. In addition, information is
generally scarce and incomplete. Even though board members and managers are
supposed to use the agent s diligence in the management of the company,
Benjamin Franklin s Virtues
In The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin, Franklin portrays himself as a man of
virtue; always working towards self betterment. The autobiography opens with
Benjamin describing how he wants to write down his life for his son to read. Franklin
notes if he were to live his life again that there are only a small handful of events that he
wished to change. This theme of self betterment continues through part I and part II.
Although Franklin writes how he does not write in vanity, he is able to acknowledge his
notable traits such as: leadership, intellectual curiosity, and reasonable creature. Franklin
often writes himself in contrast to many people, showing the reader how virtuous he is.
In part I, Franklin decides to become a vegetarian. He

TPG strategy is to invest in undervalued firms that usually have been poorly managed.
The investments are made in privately hold firms that are either unlisted from the
beginning or that is being delisted from the stock exchange under the LBO process. TPG
wants to invest in firms with a healthy basis but that are experience some problems that
TPG believes that they can fix. Does Ducati live up to this?

The negotiations then lead to an agreement between the parties. According to the
article the negotiations in the US are done more in a linear path but the negotiations
with Cagiva can best be described as a circular path. TPG has been negotiated with
Ducati for almost a year. This is probably were the cultural difference is most
prominent. Americans chose to discuss every issue separately step by step and after
every discussion they want to include this in the contract between the parties. Italians
see the whole picture in every discussion so when the Americans have decided
something new in the next step of the precoess the Italians want to go back to the
previous steps and re discuss them. Furthermore, Italians don t like do business if they
can t trust the other part in America you don t have to feel the trust since you include
every little detail in the arrangement otherwise you can get sued. Maybe that is why the
Castiglioni brothers might not trust TPG if they are not willing to re discuss everything
again. Maybe that is why they are trying to shop the deal to others even though they
have signed a Letter of Intent with TPG. This would never happen in America. But they
have not participated in any meetings and in America it would probably not be hard to
sign a contract under an LBO situation. TPG believed that their behavior replicated an
act of trying to back out of the deal.

Music In The Middle Ages
Another factor that influenced the society of the Middle Ages was its music. Music has
always impacted society and anyone who listens to it. There is something personal about
music that humans can relate to, and that is why it has had such an impact on society
both now and during the Middle Ages.
The advancements of music in the Medieval Age are far reaching and important even
today, both in the fields of the evolution of music theory and the evolution of
instrumentation and the performance of a piece. Without the advancements made in this
era, music would still be namely monophonic, originating and ending in the same key
without variation. Nor would we have anything remotely resembling the modern day
piano, an instrument centuries in its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perhaps the greatest and most influential evolution in musicality of the Middle Ages was
that of the keyboard instrument. Although there was yet to be a way to describe or
notate the complex polyphony of secular music in this era, it was all the same incredibly
prevalent. As such, polyphonic instruments arose to meet the need. Already the lute and
similar stringed instruments were becoming popular for this new brand of music, but
more was needed. As a result, the Organistrum came into existence. Originating in Spain,
this instrument was a massive beast that required two people to play correctly, or at all.
One player sat at the base of the instrument and turned a rosined wheel which would
create a continuous drone from one of three strings that ran the length of the instrument
while another sat at the head of the instrument, pulling hooks upwards to shorten the
length of the strings, creating various pitches. Although this was the first attempt at a
keyboard instrument, it very quickly became obsolete due to several issues with the
construction of the machination. The size of it made it difficult to move, especially for
the bards and troubadours of the time. The requirement to pull the hooks upwards made
the melodies cumbersome and made faster passages impossible. Worst of all, the
instrument could only handle the most basic harmonies, able to play in perfect fourths or
fifths above the melody, but unable to play an extended
Characteristics Of Major Depressive Disorder
Major depressive disorder characterized by depressed mood and/or loss of interest
affects 7% of all Americans. In addition to its primary characteristics, people diagnosed
with MDD present with at least five of the following characteristics for the majority of
the day every day for 2 weeks: altered psychomotor activity, loss of interest, problems
concentrating or making decisions, altered sleep patterns, weight loss or gain, fatigue,
recurrent thoughts of death, and feelings of worthlessness or excessive/inappropriate
guilt. In order to meet the standards for clinical diagnosis, the patient s symptoms must
prevent normal functioning (social, occupational, or otherwise) and cannot be explained
alternatively by a medical condition or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One possibility is the decrease in diagnosis of MDD by primary care physicians due to
somatic rather than psychological presenting symptoms.
Functional consequences of MDD vary but typically depend on the severity of the
symptoms. Symptoms vary from no noticeable outward changes to total functional
incapacity. Suicide attempts are higher in females, but completion rates are higher in
males. Other risk factors for suicide include living alone, feelings of helplessness and
borderline personality disorder.
Treatments
Based on a systematic review of 44 clinical trials dating from January 1, 1990 to
January 13, 2015, an effective evidence based first step intervention for managing mild
to severe MDD is second generation antidepressants. Approximately 60 % of patients
respond; however 70% do not remit. Of the several different families of antidepressants
like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs),
norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (NRIs), and monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs),
SSRIs are the most commonly prescribed. SSRIs, initially discovered as more tolerable
forms of TCAs and MAOIs, based on the monoaminergic hypothesis, the theory that
depression results from low levels of serotonin in the brain, work by inhibiting serotonin
reuptake receptors present on presynaptic neurons producing an increase of serotonin in
the brain.
Shouldice Hospital Case

Shouldice Hospital Case Study
Mrudula Anne
Executive Summary Shouldice Hospital has been devoted to repairing hernias for over
half a century. The current capacity of Shouldice is at 89 beds, however the demand for
its services are a lot higher than its bed capacity and growing at 100 patients/6 months.
Thus, Shouldice needs to find a way to expand its capacity while maintaining the quality
of its service.
Given the increasing demand for the services at Shouldice, my recommendation is to
work on opening Shouldice hospital extra hours to accommodate the increasing demand
for their services. The alternative would be to increase the number of beds by expanding
the physical premises of the hospital. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Demand for 116 beds on Wednesday and Thursday
2.Demand for 99 beds on Tuesday
Thus by increasing the number of beds, this would help give the hospital a more
wiggle room to schedule more operations per day and help run at its capacity. Taking
time perishability of the service goods (hospital beds) into account I think the number
of beds need to be increased to 110 instead of 116. Hence the percentage increase in
beds required would be (110 89)/89 = 23.60%. Thus, the current demand can be met and
Shouldice can be operated at its fullest capacity by increasing the number of beds by
23.6%.
Recommendation
As pointed out in the previous section, the bottleneck at the beds, which is bleeding to
the number of operations and the utility of the existing operation rooms needs to be
addressed as soon as possible. At is full capacity Shouldice can perform 38 operations
per day, when there is no restriction on the number of beds available. Spread over 5
operation rooms, it averages out to 38/5 = 7.6 operations per room in any given day.
These operations needs to be spread out and spaced evenly to make sure the rooms
can be used to their full capacity at 6 to 7 operations per day. With the current working
hours of 4 in the morning and 4 in the evening, it is difficult to accommodate 6 to 7
operations per day in a room. Hence along with the increase in the number of beds,
Shouldice also needs to increase its hours of operations to 10 hours a day or open one
extra day in a
The Model Of The American Family
For as long as I can remember, the ideal family household consisted of the male/father
as the bread winner, provider, and head of the household, and female/mother, and
children as members of this family. This image was embedded in us through our social
class, our parents, our community, and the social media. The families of today have
drastically changed, and are more complex in the familyrole. As time progresses, divorce
rates are at an all time high, and single parent homes are even higher. To top it off we can
t turn on the TV or computer without seeing or hearing about gay/lesbian marriageor
states legalizing same sex marriage. Over time the idea of what the model family was
viewed as and the reality of what a model class consist of now began to clash. American
families are becoming numb or more excepting of the detrimental changes that I have
listed above, of the model African Americanfamily. Finances and infidelity are at the top
of the list of reasons why the African American family is becoming non existent.
The idea that the 1950s were the best time to raise children was based on the finances of
the middle class, but the women back then were not respected as an equal to their
husband as they are more so today.
The African American male traditionally had the patriarchy role. He was the provider,
and head of the household. That role is still ideal today, but not always possible. Due to
high divorce rates, that role changes to the African
The Mobile Food Bank Delivery Service
The Mobile Food Bank delivery service serves as an 8 month pilot project and may
possibly satisfy the needs of people with mobility issues. As stated earlier, this project
also aims to deliver to approximately 50 households bi weekly in Halifax. Ultimately,
this project hopes to improve food security in Halifax. However, there are a few evident
and visible barriers that exist, amongst these are finding the financial support for this
project, and most importantly, the effectiveness of the project.
Since this 8 month project is a non profit project that does not aim to sell food, but rather
to give food to those who are in need instead, there is no need to apply for a Food
Establishment Permit (Nova Scotia, 2015). However, if the project committees wish to
organize any fundraisers prior to the start of the project, which includes food booths or
mobile canteens that involves selling food at temporary events, it is then necessary that
the project committee applies for a Temporary Event Permit (Nova Scotia, 2015).
In addition to fundraising events, there are also several grants that are available.
However, grants do not provide a guaranteed source of income. Applying for grants is an
arduous task, which would fall under the responsibilities of the project employee, and the
start of the project would be dependent on the employee s ability to secure the finances.

Islamic Law And Islamic Banking
Forty years ago, the Islamic banking industry was created, on a modest scale, to fill a
gap in a banking system that was not listening to the fervent Muslim believers.
Morocco has been following the same development in offering Islamic finance services
to its citizens through Islamic windows in conventional banks. In parallel to this
development of the Islamic financial industry in Morocco, it seems very crucial to
evaluate critically based on Maliki law school the previous experience of Islamic
windows in conventional banks. Taking into considerations, the differences between
schools in the interpretation and implementation of Islamic law in economy life, the
objective of this paper was to critically analysis the practice of Islamic banks in
Morocco. This paper aimed at analyzing the characteristics of different schools of Islamic
law and how this would affect Islamic banking. The final aim of this paper was to
highlight the importance of jurisprudence/ new interpretations in developing Islamic
banking. Qualitative methodology based on semi directive interviewees was the main
approach for this paper. Three levels of gaps have been found out. These gaps are related
respectively to Murabaha, Musharaka and Ijara. Three recommendations have been

Punctuality In The Military Essay
Punctuality is a concept that is held to a different standard in every culture in the
world. In Switzerland, for example, the train schedule is almost to the second. If a
commuter is even thirty seconds late for the train, it will have already departed. On the
other hand, in Italy, which is right next door to Switzerland, the train schedules are
quite a bit more relaxed. If a train is not posting delayed warnings, it almost comes as a
surprise. However, there is one cultural norm that all peoples across the globe can agree
upon: respect. Being respectful to our peers, superiors, and subordinates, is an extremely
important part of the Army lifestyle. One way that we show this respect is through an

Building a culture of respect and regard for another s time is important in every level

disciplined can lead to building a better personal life for oneself, and being on time in
your daily activities is a good opportunity to put self discipline in to action. Finally,
timeliness is an important aspect of the military community that non military personnel
respect and admire. Maintaining that imagery and persona of a military member can lead
to great opportunities outside of the military. Clearly, punctuality is key to being a better

The Medical and Ethical Perspectives of Human Cloning Essay
The Medical and Ethical Perspectives of Human Cloning
In our modern day world, the technology of genetic engineering and human cloning for
the use of asexual reproduction has reached a point to where we must ask ourselves if
it is a good practice for medical purposes, or if it presents issues of ethical and moral
concern. Human cloning is a very cmplex process; it is very multilayered in the promises
and threats that are suggested by scientists (Kolata 8). In the basic definition, cloning is
accomplished by removing the nucleus of a mature, unfertilized egg and replacing it with
a specialized cell from an adult organism. The nucleus taken contains most of the
hereditary material from the original human source, and it ... Show more content on

And then, on February 24, 1997, newspapers around the world reported the successful
cloning of a lamb. This lamb, nown as Dolly, was cloned by Ian Wilmut and his fellow

scientists ssaid this method of cloning couldn t be applied to humans yet, Bill Clinton
asked The National Bioethics Advisory Commission to study the ethical and legal
implications of human cloning (Biomedical: Roleff, ed. 16). They recommened a three
to five year moratorium on human cloning research to give the public time to debate and
examine the issues involved (Biomedical: Roleff, ed.16). We are still in the midst of this

journal articles, and creating web sites that discuss and debate the pro s and con s of
human cloning. The Council for Secular Humanism has written the Declaration in
Defense of Cloning and the Integrity of Scientific Research, and is broadcasting it on the
Internaet. There are many arguments for and against it. Some interesting arguments
revolving around the debate for and against human cloning are the use of cloning for
asexual reproduction, basic human rights, and its use for gene therapy. All of these
arguments have a group of people from all realms in society that use the arguments to
support human cloning, and a group of people that use them to show that

What Is Wikipedia Inaccurate
It is an age of the online encyclopedia. Wikipedia, the largest online encyclopedia in
today s world, has already changed the way people access information to some extent.
The online encyclopedia is not only just the digital edition of traditional encyclopedia but
also every user of it can contribute materials (Murgia). This collaborative modification
feature of Wikipediahas already been widely accepted by many people. Every month,
Wikipedia has more than 18 billion page views on average and nearly 500 million
unique visitors. (Anderson, Hitlin and Atkinson). Roughly 75,000 volunteers edit and
write articles on Wikipedia every month (Cohen). However, the prosperity of the online

Many people claim that information on online encyclopedias such as Wikipedia may be
inaccurate because the contributors are anonymous (Seigenthaler). Many anonymous
writers may lack the required academic background or related experience to write
credible articles. Articles that are written by non academic writers may contain factual
errors or unverified information. Moreover, articles that are edited by unprofessional
editors may not present the intended ideas clearly or the articles may not to be structured
properly. Furthermore, the free editing also reduces the information accuracy. Because
any user can edit content, some articles may not hold a neutral point of view. Articles
may contain the author s personal political beliefs, religious beliefs and bias. Also,
because every user can edit content, hackers and amoral users may use this opportunity to
create false information to deceive people. Compared with the online encyclopedia, the
accuracy of traditional printed encyclopedia seems to be much higher. For example, the
articles in the encyclopedia Britannica were written by a staff of about 100 full time
editors and more than 4,000 expert contributors (Simonson). Not everyone has the chance
to write on the traditional printed encyclopedia; hence, the information on it is much more
Analysis Of Hair Spray The Choreographer And Director
Dance can show us a variation of things whether it is a story plot or retelling history
events. Dance becomes an art when done with passion and enthusiasm. The audience
can connect and respond with the dancer if done properly. When we use dancing in a
story line musical we are attempting to give the audience a deeper understanding. As
every story every musical has a moral to the story or main idea.
In the movie hair spray the choreographer and director do a great job explaining not only
the history of dance but also a main historic fact. With the classic musical style story
the director is able to introduce a part of history in a fun exciting way through dance
and music. The story tells us many different things as well as shows us how dance can
bring people from different ethnicities and color together. We can deeply connect with
the story if we can understand and experience with story line. The story begins with a
girl by the name of Tracy who is crazy about singing and dancing the, new groove . She
is different then the rest in many ways but pursues her dream as a dancer without allowing
anything to stop her. She shows her enthusiasm for dancing and singing from the
beginning of the movie to the end. The story shows us a part of the 60s when
segregation was in place. Whites and people of color where not often seen together.
They were unable to live in the same neighborhoods or share the same friends, stores, and
buses. At this time in history dance was very

Law of Reflection: Reflection and refraction are common properties of light. When a ray
of light comes into contact with the surface of some material, part of the ray is
reflected and part of it is absorbed. In other words, reflection occurs when an incident
ray hits a reflective surface and bounces off. The law of reflection states that the angle of
reflection is equal to the angle of incidence (always in respect to the normal) and that the
incident ray, the normal line and the reflected ray are all located in the same plane.
Snell s Law of Refraction: When a ray of light reaches a boundary between two
transparent mediums, reflection and refraction occur. Refraction takes place when rays
of light bend across the boundary into the second medium which causes a change in the
light s velocity. The denser the medium, the slower the light.
Total Internal Reflection: Internal reflection refers to light travelling from a higher index
medium to a lower index medium, which causes the ray to bend away from the normal,
so the exit angle is greater than the incident angle. As the angle of incidence increases, so
does the angle of refraction. Total internal reflection takes place when the angle of
incidence is greater than the
Essay On Interprofessional Working
Interprofessional working is defined as persons belonging to a profession, relating
between and among each other, for the mutual benefit of those involved (Day, 2006),
whilst attempting to improve the quality of patient care and unite the multidisciplinary
team to focus on patient centred, excellent care (Goodman Clemow, 2010).
Interprofessional workers in the healthcare setting can include nursing staff from all
fields; adult, mental health, learning disabilities and paediatrics, as well as the wider
multidisciplinary team within the ward setting, such as occupational therapists,
physiotherapists, doctors, podiatrists, furthermore, expanding from the ward setting to
include community nurses, social workers, health visitors and midwives.
Interprofessional working enables and encourages these professionals to combine their
values and beliefs to focus on the patients and to deliver excellent, patient centred care.
This therefore allows them to share a common purpose and goal whilst combining their
knowledge, skills and resources as a team (Day, 2006). ... Show more content on

What Are The Challenges Of Balancing High School
My greatest challenge so far has to be balancing high school with the issues that my
family has faced. During ninth and tenth grade, my mother was experiencing back pain
as well as scaitia in her leg, which almost led her to be bed ridden. My mother
experienced tremendous pain and her pain killers were not even helping her out. To
further arise the issue, neither of my parents speak English well, so it was my
responsibility to go with my parents to any doctor s appointments or any other
appointments that were necessary. Furthermore, the first two years of high schoolwere
also an intense period for me because my father also had two neck surgeries in the past
and with his age, his body was not supporting him either. I was expected to take over
Essay about What Home Means to Me
What Home Means to Me
In a matter of fact, home is a noun that is defined in the Collins New School Dictionary
as firstly, the place where you live, secondly, the place where you were born or you
feel you belong. On the other hand, the dictionary also defines it as a place where
people are looked after. The first meaning of the word home would not apply to me as I
only have lived in Dubai, The United Arab Emirates for four years as compared to the
seven years in Marseille, France. Although I hail from Algeria, a country in the North of
Africa, yet I yearn for my home in Marseille. The last characterization of the word home
is not relevant either. So only the second definition is the most adapted ... Show more

Every single area of my home has a history for me as I learned there how to walk,
played games in front of the parking behind the shady trees, took part in football
games in front of the grey towering buildings with my friends and many more
childhood memories I still cherish. There is also my family and relatives who played
an important part in my understanding of the word home. A herd of birds were
migrating, unperturbed, towards the south. Every bird in the group felt comfortable until
a bird went astray and by accident started flying in the opposite direction. I see myself as
this bird that has parted its company and is feeling forlorn.
Recently I moved to an imposing five bedroom house with a large garden surrounding
it. There is also a terrace that overlooks the garden and a path leading to the swimming
pool and gymnasium as well as the Jacuzzi and a big courtyard where we play table
tennis. Attached to our villa there is a garage where we can park both our cars and Jet
Ski easily. The garden has various kinds of fragrant flowers of all colours and palm trees.
Our garden also has a barbecue, wooden chairs and tables. My house has a small quarter
where a maid lives. As we enter the house there is a small corridor leading to the lounge

furthering my career and becoming a labor and delivery nurse. . Being a labor and
delivery nurse requires to be open minded, assertive, and most of all a strong
connector. Being a labor and delivery nurse calls for an open mind that every
individual has a different story on how they become a mother. Whether it is a teen
mother on the bed crying for help because she is in so much pain or the mother getting
ready to deliver and having to give her baby for adoption. You have to care for every
individual for whatever the circumstance is or becomes and show empathy to all.
Working with a doctor setting as an obstetric nurse has assisted me to the road of an

Abstract
CNX Nifty being an important barometer to indicate country s growth has always been
followed with lots of interest from both academia and industry. Now, CNX Nifty
could be predicted or not on a random basis gives rise to many a questions. This sounds
redolent with any predictive modeling though with a certain degree of accuracy in built
in to the system. The major point of consideration is that predictive modeling could be
done by various measures and mechanisms. In predictive modeling Multiple Adaptive
Regression (MARS), Classification and Regression Trees (CART), Logistic OLS or
Non Linear OLS could be used. Here in this study the researcher has utilized Neural
Network as a Predictive Modeler to predict CNX Nifty closing on certain random time
zones under consideration.

Starbucks Case Analysis
Starbucks Case Analysis Background Starbucks has always taken exceptional care in
keeping its brand value. In fact, Starbucks prides itself in its brand, particularly the
power it has to keep its customer base strong. Before analyzing this loyal customer base
it is best to consider the particular characteristics of the brand that has led to Starbucks
having such devoted patrons. First, Starbucks believes that the quality of its coffee
products always needs to be perfect. Starbucks took quality control to a new level. When
the freshness of coffee bean shipments is in question, Starbucks donates those beans to
charity by the thousands of pounds. In addition to this measure of excellence, Starbucks
helped incorporate a new coffeehouse... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though the employees and manager have a partial responsibility for delivery of a
malfunctioning espresso machine, Dorosin s request was unreasonable. Replacing his
malfunctioning Vapore machine with a much higher quality machine seems like a
stretch. The higher quality machine, which Dorosin requested, costs $495 retail.
Instead, Starbucks should offer Mr. Dorosin the price difference in a gift card. With a
gift card for the price difference between his Vapore machine and the higher quality
machine, Starbucks is displaying goodwill toward Mr. Dorosin while hopefully
maintaining him as a customer. Recommendations Starbucks regional manager should
send a signed, written apology to Jeremy Dorosin on company letterhead (see Exhibit
1). An apology letter will not only comply with Mr. Dorosin s request but it shows
Starbucks culpability in what occurred. Since the employee involved in Mr. Dorosin s
negative experience was not displaying the traits of a model Starbucks barista (see
Exhibit 3), the employee should be retrained. The other employees and the manager of
the store involved should also be required to go through retraining courses in order to
not only show why what they did was wrong but how to behave in the future. One facet
of the retraining should involve role playing (see Exhibit 4) in order to better understand
real life situations. In following these recommendations along with the gift card and
machine repairs, Starbucks should be
Istanbul Palaces in Pre-Ottoman Era Essay
Istanbul Palaces in Pre Ottoman Era Byzantium, Constantinople and Istanbul, these
names are addressed to the same place which now we call it as Istanbul. According to
the latest excavation during the construction of the Marmaray Tunnel in 2008, the history
of Istanbul has begun from 6700 BC, that s where they found the remains of sinking
ships belong to the earliest human settlement of the city. In 700 BC, when the Greek

the strategic location along the Bosphorus Strait, and late King Byzas named the city as

only increased the friction. Perhaps it would have been easier to increase the weights
instead of decrease to make the numbers more manageable, because all of the decimals

Salem Witch Trials And The Witch Trial Essay
From 1692 to 1693, twenty people were executed after being accused of witchcraft in
Salem Village, Massachusetts, many more died in jail, and around 200 people total
were accused of witchcraft during the Salem Witch Trials. Records from the event
indicate that the Salem Witch Trials started when a group of young girls began acting
strange, claiming they had been possessed by the Devil and bewitched by local villagers.
The SalemWitch Trials is a much debated event; historians argue over the motivation
and causes behind the trials and executions, not over the proceedings. Each historian
approached the Salem Witch Trials with their own brand of logic and interpretation
building off of and criticizing the interpretations of their predecessors. No one historical
theory can conclusively explain the cause of the Salem Witch Trials because there were
too many variables and motivations among the villagers. These historians used the best
of their abilities to examine the events of the Salem Witch Trials and the mere fact that
there are so many interpretations means there are not certainties when it comes to this
historical event. However, a combination of their theories could provide a better picture
of the Salem Witch story and the many aspects in determining the outcome of the Salem
Witch Trials. Charles W. Upham, George Kittredge, Paul Boyer, Stephen Nissenbaum,
Linnda Caporael, Carol Karlsen, Peter Charles Hoffer, and Emerson Baker are all experts
in their selected fields. They

  • 3. Philosophy Of Transactional Leadership Instructional Supervision Philosophy Leadership Even though leadership dates back centuries, it is critical for leaders to display qualities that differentiate them from followers (p. 5). To encourage student success, it is important to practice theories and methodologies that help institution s and individuals become successful leaders with superior qualities. Transformational and transactional leadership are two terms that discussed throughout business and education. Transactional leadership is defined as trading one thing for another (quid pro quo) , whereas transformational leadership is more focused on change (p. 14). Transactional leaders believe it is their job to maintain the status quo by setting goals, desired outcomes, rewards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1). Research indicated the importance of active learning strategies, over the past few years, to help maximize the student s education. A well written lesson plan can cover the course content, maintain student attention, and incorporate the knowledge and skills the student needs to learn. A skilled educator can scrutinize the learning situation and differentiate instruction by using all the available resources. I think, to help facilitate learning, teachers should encourage students to be more responsible for their own education by engaging them to participate in individual or group activities, including collaboration with other students, hands on activities, reading, writing, and verbal presentations. As an educator, I will concentrate on strategies that promote collaboration, cooperation, and communication. I will concentrate on reading strategies that help students comprehend what they read. Reading strategies such as, the before, during, and after reading strategy can be used for reading comprehension. I can use this reading strategy the first time a new story is read. Before reading the story, I can preview the story by discussing the topic, using key vocabulary words, activating the student s prior knowledge, and setting the purpose for reading. During the reading passage, I will stop and use context clues to help students
  • 4. How Aerobic Exercise Reduces Oxidative Stress And Improves... Background: The research article entitled Aerobic exercise reduces oxidative stress and improves vascular changes of small mesenteric and coronary arteries in hypertension authored by Fernanda R. Roque and colleagues examines the effects of regular physical activity, namely aerobic exercise training, and its effects on hypertension. Specifically this study aimed at identifying a non pharmacological treatment (exercise) for hypertension, with the assumptions that exercise promotes beneficial vascular remodeling, mechanical, and functional adaptations in the arteries of hypertensive individuals. This study approached the link between exercise and hypertension by analyzing spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) response to a twelve week exercise Prescription. Upon completion of the twelve weeks, measurements of adaptation in coronary and small mesenteric arteries were examined in effort to deduce the efficacy of aerobic exercise as a treatment option (Roque, 2012, p. 687). Efforts to discover a non pharmacological intervention/treatment for hypertension stems from the belief that prevention via lifestyle modifications (exercise) are not only an effective means of preventing and controlling hypertension, but also a cost effective health care strategy (Taylor 2014, p.478). Exercise as a preventative method has been known by researchers for a long time, specifically in terms of its ability to ameliorate hypertension, and subsequent cardiovascular disease (CVD) in at risk
  • 5. Effects of Illegal Insider Trading Essay Insider trading is a term that most investors have heard and usually associate with illegal conduct. But the term actually includes both legal and illegal conduct. The legal version is when corporate insiders officers, directors, and employees buy and sell stock in their own companies. When corporate insiders trade in their own securities, they must report their trades to the SEC. Illegal insider tradingrefers generally to buying or selling a security, in breach of a fiduciaryduty or other relationship of trust and confidence, while in possession of material, nonpublic information about the security. Insider trading violations may also include tipping such information, securities trading by the person tipped, and securities... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But, in a case like that of Enron, their stock price was enormous since it was not evident that they were cooking their books. This would not have happened if insider trading were legal. Investors would not have lost most of their money investing in a firm like Enron and taking the hit when they were investigated for insider trading and fraud. The Enron insiders would have sold their shares and the price would have corrected itself and the disaster might have been avoided. Investors could have allocated their money towards more promising investments, which in turn would increase market efficiency. With legalizing insider trading, stock prices would be more efficient with the ability to acquire more information. Illegal trading is still common and some may say it is actually growing. This puts law abiding investors at a disadvantage. Insider trading bans allow for some comparable behavior. For example, if I were to work for a company and hear that we were going to post a profit this quarter, I would not sell my shares. This could be considered insider non trading and is currently legal, but can basically be considered insider trading. There are plenty of loopholes in the current system. With increased information, we might be able to smooth the volatility of the market. It will lessen the exposure to bad information and will benefit the market s participants. Profits being made from the information will expedite the flow of information. There is a gray area
  • 6. All Quiet On The Western Front Essay All Quiet on the Western Front Essay We learn about past wars in history. We hear stories from soldiers that partake in these wars, but do we really understand what goes on out on that battlefield? We would have to see and experience it ourselves to fully grasp why soldiers come back so scarred. Not only physically but emotionally, and socially as well. All quiet on the Western Frontby Erich Maria Remarqueis a story told by a soldier named Paul Baumer. He shares his experiences of his service in World War one. The realities of the war and the death that surrounded Paul Baumer were so epic that he didn t even feel like he was himself when he visited home. Dying in a war or getting injured is considered a courageous act by society. Society doesn t know what the soldiers go through. If you were a soldier your outlook on war may be a little different. By telling them this they believed that when they returned from the war they would be glorified from their town as war heroes. Kantorek set off some excitement for the war in all of these young men by doing so. When they reached the front they become conscious that war was no where near how they imagined it would be. Paul then realized that after a war like this he would not return to society and be able to fit in ever again. The war totally changed who he once had been. Soldiers go home and don t know how to act around their families, and the people they grew up with. They have seen so much death and violence that they don t know what a lifestyle or friendship is. Life is very different for them. On page 165 Paul says, I am young, I am twenty years old; yet I know nothing of life but despair death, fear, and fatuous superficiality cast over an abyss of sorrow. Remarque adds these thoughts by Paul throughout the book. Paul is over taken by this war and will never be the same person ever
  • 7. Anomie Strain Theory In this essay I will be outlining and discussing the ways in which anomie and strain have contributed to the understanding of crime and criminal behaviour. I will be using the anomie and strain theories to discuss crime and the development of criminology. Within criminology there are many theories which try to explain the changes in society caused by crime and criminal behaviour. Deviant behaviour is described by theories as, any behaviour that goes against the norms of society. There are many theories which try to explain how behaviour is classed and why people take part in it. These are biological, psychological and sociological. There are biological and psychological contributions to crime which try to explain the reasons for criminal and deviant behaviour in our society. Biological explanations for crime and deviancy are that all criminals and deviants have a certain look and they look different from non criminal people in society. This explanation claims that how someone looks can explain their chances of becoming a criminal. Inheritance of certain genes in their makeup can make them more likely to be involved in crime and be a negative impact on society. There are also psychological explanations for crime, these say that criminals have different minds to regular people, different personalities can be more likely to be involved in the deviant behaviour which causes problems in society. It also says that certain childhood experiences and the influences they have had

S.p.A. is the normal form for larger companies (joint stock companies). An S.p.A. may be listed on the Stock Exchange although the absolute majority are not. It is however necessary for a company to be an S.p.A. in order to be listed thereon. S.r.l. in practice corresponds to a closely held limited company. It is the kind of structure which is more suited to small tomedium sized enterprises where limited liability is required. This is by far the most common type of company used by Italian entrepreneurs and that most frequently chosen by foreign parent companies when setting up their subsidiaries in Italy. The governance structure of corporations is twotired: the managing board (consiglio di amministrazione) has the function of ratifying decisions that have been previously taken by the controlling group, and is supplemented by a board of auditors (collegio sindacale) who are responsible for internal monitoring. Directors can either be executive or nonexecutive and there is only a limited number of external directors. They tend to meet only a few times a year and the meetings are frequently of poor quality. In addition, information is generally scarce and incomplete. Even though board members and managers are supposed to use the agent s diligence in the management of the company,

The autobiography opens with Benjamin describing how he wants to write down his life for his son to read. Franklin notes if he were to live his life again that there are only a small handful of events that he wished to change. This theme of self betterment continues through part I and part II. Although Franklin writes how he does not write in vanity, he is able to acknowledge his notable traits such as: leadership, intellectual curiosity, and reasonable creature. Franklin often writes himself in contrast to many people, showing the reader how virtuous he is. In part I, Franklin decides to become a vegetarian. He

Could the Ducati brand be expanded beyond motorcycles? Why or why not? TPG strategy is to invest in undervalued firms that usually have been poorly managed. The investments are made in privately hold firms that are either unlisted from the beginning or that is being delisted from the stock exchange under the LBO process. TPG wants to invest in firms with a healthy basis but that are experience some problems that TPG believes that they can fix. Does Ducati live up to this? According to the article the negotiations in the US are done more in a linear path but the negotiations with Cagiva can best be described as a circular path. TPG has been negotiated with Ducati for almost a year. This is probably were the cultural difference is most prominent. Americans chose to discuss every issue separately step by step and after every discussion they want to include this in the contract between the parties. Italians see the whole picture in every discussion so when the Americans have decided something new in the next step of the precoess the Italians want to go back to the previous steps and re discuss them. Furthermore, Italians don t like do business if they can t trust the other part in America you don t have to feel the trust since you include every little detail in the arrangement otherwise you can get sued. Maybe that is why the Castiglioni brothers might not trust TPG if they are not willing to re discuss everything again. Maybe that is why they are trying to shop the deal to others even though they have signed a Letter of Intent with TPG. This would never happen in America. But they have not participated in any meetings and in America it would probably not be hard to sign a contract under an LBO situation. TPG believed that their behavior replicated an act of trying to back out of the deal. Context LBO s in U.S. seems much more organized than in Italy but at the
  • 12. Music In The Middle Ages Another factor that influenced the society of the Middle Ages was its music. Music has always impacted society and anyone who listens to it. There is something personal about music that humans can relate to, and that is why it has had such an impact on society both now and during the Middle Ages. The advancements of music in the Medieval Age are far reaching and important even today, both in the fields of the evolution of music theory and the evolution of instrumentation and the performance of a piece. Without the advancements made in this era, music would still be namely monophonic, originating and ending in the same key without variation. Perhaps the greatest and most influential evolution in musicality of the Middle Ages was that of the keyboard instrument. Although there was yet to be a way to describe or notate the complex polyphony of secular music in this era, it was all the same incredibly prevalent. As such, polyphonic instruments arose to meet the need. Already the lute and similar stringed instruments were becoming popular for this new brand of music, but more was needed. As a result, the Organistrum came into existence. Originating in Spain, this instrument was a massive beast that required two people to play correctly, or at all. One player sat at the base of the instrument and turned a rosined wheel which would create a continuous drone from one of three strings that ran the length of the instrument while another sat at the head of the instrument, pulling hooks upwards to shorten the length of the strings, creating various pitches. Although this was the first attempt at a keyboard instrument, it very quickly became obsolete due to several issues with the construction of the machination. The size of it made it difficult to move, especially for the bards and troubadours of the time. The requirement to pull the hooks upwards made the melodies cumbersome and made faster passages impossible. Worst of all, the instrument could only handle the most basic harmonies, able to play in perfect fourths or fifths above the melody, but unable to play an extended

Treatments Based on a systematic review of 44 clinical trials dating from January 1, 1990 to January 13, 2015, an effective evidence based first step intervention for managing mild to severe MDD is second generation antidepressants. Approximately 60 % of patients respond; however 70% do not remit. Of the several different families of antidepressants like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (NRIs), and monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), SSRIs are the most commonly prescribed. SSRIs, initially discovered as more tolerable forms of TCAs and MAOIs, based on the monoaminergic hypothesis, the theory that depression results from low levels of serotonin in the brain, work by inhibiting serotonin reuptake receptors present on presynaptic neurons producing an increase of serotonin in the brain.

Shouldice Hospital Case Sullivan University, Louisville Shouldice Hospital Case Study Mrudula Anne Executive Summary Shouldice Hospital has been devoted to repairing hernias for over half a century. The current capacity of Shouldice is at 89 beds, however the demand for its services are a lot higher than its bed capacity and growing at 100 patients/6 months. Thus, Shouldice needs to find a way to expand its capacity while maintaining the quality of its service. Given the increasing demand for the services at Shouldice, my recommendation is to work on opening Shouldice hospital extra hours to accommodate the increasing demand for their services. The alternative would be to increase the number of beds by expanding the physical premises of the hospital. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Demand for 116 beds on Wednesday and Thursday 2.Demand for 99 beds on Tuesday Thus by increasing the number of beds, this would help give the hospital a more wiggle room to schedule more operations per day and help run at its capacity. Taking time perishability of the service goods (hospital beds) into account I think the number of beds need to be increased to 110 instead of 116. Hence the percentage increase in beds required would be (110 89)/89 = 23.60%. Thus, the current demand can be met and Shouldice can be operated at its fullest capacity by increasing the number of beds by 23.6%. Recommendation As pointed out in the previous section, the bottleneck at the beds, which is bleeding to the number of operations and the utility of the existing operation rooms needs to be addressed as soon as possible. At is full capacity Shouldice can perform 38 operations per day, when there is no restriction on the number of beds available. Spread over 5 operation rooms, it averages out to 38/5 = 7.6 operations per room in any given day. These operations needs to be spread out and spaced evenly to make sure the rooms can be used to their full capacity at 6 to 7 operations per day. With the current working hours of 4 in the morning and 4 in the evening, it is difficult to accommodate 6 to 7 operations per day in a room. Hence along with the increase in the number of beds, Shouldice also needs to increase its hours of operations to 10 hours a day or open one extra day in a

The Model Of The American Family For as long as I can remember, the ideal family household consisted of the male/father as the bread winner, provider, and head of the household, and female/mother, and children as members of this family. This image was embedded in us through our social class, our parents, our community, and the social media. The families of today have drastically changed, and are more complex in the familyrole. As time progresses, divorce rates are at an all time high, and single parent homes are even higher. To top it off we can t turn on the TV or computer without seeing or hearing about gay/lesbian marriageor states legalizing same sex marriage. Over time the idea of what the model family was viewed as and the reality of what a model class consist of now began to clash. American families are becoming numb or more excepting of the detrimental changes that I have listed above, of the model African Americanfamily. Finances and infidelity are at the top of the list of reasons why the African American family is becoming non existent. The idea that the 1950s were the best time to raise children was based on the finances of the middle class, but the women back then were not respected as an equal to their husband as they are more so today. The African American male traditionally had the patriarchy role. He was the provider, and head of the household. That role is still ideal today, but not always possible. Due to high divorce rates, that role changes to the African

As stated earlier, this project also aims to deliver to approximately 50 households bi weekly in Halifax. Ultimately, this project hopes to improve food security in Halifax. However, there are a few evident and visible barriers that exist, amongst these are finding the financial support for this project, and most importantly, the effectiveness of the project. Since this 8 month project is a non profit project that does not aim to sell food, but rather to give food to those who are in need instead, there is no need to apply for a Food Establishment Permit (Nova Scotia, 2015). However, if the project committees wish to organize any fundraisers prior to the start of the project, which includes food booths or mobile canteens that involves selling food at temporary events, it is then necessary that the project committee applies for a Temporary Event Permit (Nova Scotia, 2015). In addition to fundraising events, there are also several grants that are available. However, grants do not provide a guaranteed source of income. Applying for grants is an arduous task, which would fall under the responsibilities of the project employee, and the start of the project would be dependent on the employee s ability to secure the finances. The Medical and Ethical Perspectives of Human Cloning Essay The Medical and Ethical Perspectives of Human Cloning In our modern day world, the technology of genetic engineering and human cloning for the use of asexual reproduction has reached a point to where we must ask ourselves if it is a good practice for medical purposes, or if it presents issues of ethical and moral concern. Human cloning is a very cmplex process; it is very multilayered in the promises and threats that are suggested by scientists (Kolata 8). In the basic definition, cloning is accomplished by removing the nucleus of a mature, unfertilized egg and replacing it with a specialized cell from an adult organism. Even though scientists ssaid this method of cloning couldn t be applied to humans yet, Bill Clinton asked The National Bioethics Advisory Commission to study the ethical and legal implications of human cloning (Biomedical: Roleff, ed. 16). Critical Angle And Total Internal Reflection Critical Angle Total Internal Reflection Kate Graham Partner: Samantha Dekart Monday, November 9, 2015 SNC2D Ms. Vink Purpose: See attached sheet, labelled SNC2D Lab Sheet . Related Theory: Law of Reflection: Reflection and refraction are common properties of light. When a ray of light comes into contact with the surface of some material, part of the ray is reflected and part of it is absorbed. In other words, reflection occurs when an incident ray hits a reflective surface and bounces off. The law of reflection states that the angle of reflection is equal to the angle of incidence (always in respect to the normal) and that the incident ray, the normal line and the reflected ray are all located in the same plane. Snell s Law of Refraction: When a ray of light reaches a boundary between two transparent mediums, reflection and refraction occur. Refraction takes place when rays of light bend across the boundary into the second medium which causes a change in the light s velocity. The denser the medium, the slower the light. Total Internal Reflection: Internal reflection refers to light travelling from a higher index medium to a lower index medium, which causes the ray to bend away from the normal, so the exit angle is greater than the incident angle. As the angle of incidence increases, so does the angle of refraction. Total internal reflection takes place when the angle of incidence is greater than the

Salem Witch Trials And The Witch Trial Essay From 1692 to 1693, twenty people were executed after being accused of witchcraft in Salem Village, Massachusetts, many more died in jail, and around 200 people total were accused of witchcraft during the Salem Witch Trials. Records from the event indicate that the Salem Witch Trials started when a group of young girls began acting strange, claiming they had been possessed by the Devil and bewitched by local villagers. The SalemWitch Trials is a much debated event; historians argue over the motivation and causes behind the trials and executions, not over the proceedings. Each historian approached the Salem Witch Trials with their own brand of logic and interpretation building off of and criticizing the interpretations of their predecessors. No one historical theory can conclusively explain the cause of the Salem Witch Trials because there were too many variables and motivations among the villagers. These historians used the best of their abilities to examine the events of the Salem Witch Trials and the mere fact that there are so many interpretations means there are not certainties when it comes to this historical event.
