The World Wide Web as Social Hypertext
Something curious is happening on the World Wide Web. It is undergoing a slow transformation
from an abstract, chaotic, information web into what I call a social hypertext.
Initially, I didn t pay much attention to the Web. After all, it was just a new take on distributed
information server systems such as WAIS[8] and Gopher[1]. True, it was easier to use than WAIS,
and the ability of Web browsers to display formatted text and graphics with embedded links made it
more attractive and engaging than either WAIS or Gopher. But there was nothing really new; it was
an incremental advance, a new combination of well known functionality. So I mentally categorized
the Web as just the latest fashion to sweep the internet.
In this I was quite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The difficulty is that I may not have time to comment on it, or I may glance at it and find it
uninteresting, and so I am left in an awkward position. The same issues arise, mutatis mutandis , in
sharing one s own work. In short, the ability to find out what someone else is doing, without mutual
knowledge of what s happening, is a boon to both parties. This non mutuality of knowledge is one
of the characteristics that makes social hypertext different from more direct forms of
communication.
While the non mutuality and socially driven search strategies are important practical outcomes
of the transformation of the web into social hypertext, I believe that in the long run it is the use
of web pages for personal portrayal that will have the most profound effects. Note that while
personal portrayal is a new type of usage of the web, it is very ordinary behavior in the real
world. People go to considerable effort and expense to manage their appearance. Portrayal
management ranges from the ways in which people act in public [4, 5], to the clothes they wear
[7] and the goods they possess and consume [2]. The World Wide Webis one of the first venues
where individuals can construct portrayals of themselves using information rather than consumer
goods as their palette. For the first time, individuals can project huge amounts of detailed
information about themselves to a mass audience they are no longer limited to assembling
montages of consumer items that at best

Herman Melville s Bartleby The Scrivener
Wall Street is commonly regarded as a vicious battleground occupied by thousands of money
hungry individuals that wish to strike it big by climbing the corporate ladder by any means
necessary. While many win and many more lose everything as people try to succeed on Wall
Street, Melville sees a problem outside the bounds of losing and gaining money. Melville realized
that an existential battle was simultaneously taking place within the minds of these young people.
In Herman Melvilles Bartleby, the Scrivener, Melville emits contempt for society and its corrupt
values by creating underdeveloped characters that lack typical characteristics of fully established
individuals. With work, money, profits, and productivity at the center of the universe,... Show more

The symptoms of said illness include paleness, namelessness, and an impaired sense of right from
wrong. An incubator for lifelessness, Wall Street is capable of stripping away the elements of
life that give people a unique sense of color in their lives. One s name, family, and personal life
are the first things to go when one is infected with Wall Street s illness. The narrator has
surpassed this phase and reached the point in which his sense of conscience has begun to
abandon him. Presumably, the next phase involves the narrator losing all bodily color and
physical sense of life. In Melville s eyes, Wall Street takes a vibrant individual, infects them with
the sole desire to make money, then proceeds to strip them of the aspects that make them
functional individuals in society. Through the detailed description of Bartleby s actions and
physical appearance as well as the narrator s lack of typical personal attributes, Melville portrays
his criticisms about the values fostered by Wall

Criteria for Evaluation
I. Ensure public safety II. Protect corporate reputation III. Minimize financial losses and retain
restaurant chain s business IV. Long term gains
Evaluation of Options
1. Do not inform the restaurant chain
* Ensure public safety: A majority of salmonella species can be inactivated if the restaurant chain
operates at documented pasteurization temperatures. However, in the event of the infection
reaching the public, there is a significant morbidity and mortality rate. Hospitalization and death
rates can be as high as 33% and 3% respectively. (Schlundt, 2001) Exhibit 1 shows the number of
Salmonella related deaths and death rates in the past 10 years. * Protect corporate reputation: Mike
s might get away with the wrongdoing if the contamination does not result in any public level
infection. However, if any case of infection were to come to light, Mike s will be portrayed by the
media as an unethical and unscrupulous organization which can ruin its reputation. * Minimize
financial losses and retain restaurant chain s business: The upside to this option is prevention of
losses on the infected food lot. However, in case of any eventualities, the restaurant chain might pull
out. Also, the ensuing litigation costs and revenue losses due to other customers withdrawing their

Homer Bad Man Analysis
Modern society relies heavily on media, a form of mass communication, to inherit its values and
beliefs on political and social issues occurring around the world. Two of the most common forms of
communication in this field are current affairs programs and news broadcasts. Due to the mass
production and high demand for news around the world, the images and stories presented to the
public are often skewed, therefore sometimes misrepresenting the truth behind the stories being
reported on. As mediahas become more commonplace in modern society, modern texts have
explored this idea more frequently. Both the television series, Frontline by Rob Sitch et al and The
Simpsons episode Homer Bad Man, written by Greg Daniels and directed by Jeffery Lynch... Show

The episode has the media depict Homer Simpson, the protagonist, as sexually harassing a
younger woman when the audience can see that Homer was really trying to retrieve his precious
gummy bear from the back of the woman s pants. When the woman retaliates to what she assumes
is an act of harassment, the media begin to get involved and a fictitious news station called Rock
Bottom asks to interview Homer to get his account of the story. The report begins with the woman
portrayed as a university honours student who devoted her life to kids, (Daniels Lynch, 1994,
10:46) and Homer as a grossly overweight pervert. (Daniels Lynch, 1994, 10:49) When she is
spoken about, the music is angelic and sweet which suddenly contrasts to the sinister non diagetic
sound played when Homer is depicted. Later in the interview, Daniels and Lynch humorously show
the blatant and obvious cuts in the interview by the clock in the background constantly switching
back and forward in time, and Homer s words cutting from sweet and candy repeatedly. This mise
en scene and use of cinematic techniques within the show, is used to portray how easy it is for the
media to misrepresent the truth through film editing and other technological

Smoke Signals Film Techniques
Throughout the movie Smoke Signals, there are many themes that are portrayed as the story
progresses. Two central ideals that we see in the movie are the journey to forgiveness and defining
fatherhood. In the beginning of the film, we witness Arnold (Victor s father) saving Thomas from a
burning house, but when thanked by Thomas grandmother he says I didn t mean to. his response
becomes self explanatory by the end of the film. Unfortunately, Thomas parents do not escape the
house fire and succumb to the flames. Although Thomas parents passed away, he held some sort of
father figure through Arnold and motherly figure through his grandmother who solely raised him.

Victor, built a hatred for his father because he left him and his motherbroken. Arnold was
portrayed as a stereotypical drunk, dead beat dad that left his family to fend for themselves.
Throughout the movie there are many flashbacks that show a lot of foreshadowing leading to
Arnold s absence. In one of the flashbacks, Arnold is in the truck with Victor and says to him
during a drunken rant ...one day I ll make myself disappear. However, there are a handful of
precious memories that Victor held with his father. I believe that this is what led Victor on his
journey to find the truth as to why his father left him and his mother. The moment that Victor finds
out the truth about the house fire many years ago, his hatred begins to whither and he sees his
father in a new yet complicated light. Learning the truth eventually frees him from his rage
towards his father and irritation towards Thomas; he may feel as though Thomas is a victim of his
father s selfish actions. Towards the end of the film, there was a scene that Victor took his father s
ashes and shared them with

Analysis Of Ramesh Sippy s Sholay
When it comes to Indian popular culture, there is no film more ingrained in the public
consciousness than Ramesh Sippy s iconic thriller Sholay (1975). The film revolves around two
criminals, Jai and Veeru (Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra), hired by a retired police officer
(Sanjeev Kumar) to exact revenge on a ruthless bandit, Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan), responsible
for murdering his family. The film blends several genres such as the Western, Comedy and
Musical in its use of mis en scene, cinematography and editing. Sholay can also be deconstructed
as a relevant commentary on the political unrest and instability of India in the 1970s, a period
marked by regional tensions, war and internal fragility of a nation. The 1970s in India was... Show

However, Gandhi s popularity was destined to be short lived as many parts of the country soon
burst into protest over increasing prices and inflation coupled with frustration over inefficient
bureaucracy and red tapeism. These protests were most animated in states such as Gujarat and
Bihar, where students marched on the streets and united around political activist, Jayaprakash
Narayan. When in 1975, a judge in the Allahabad high court ruled that Gandhi s 1972 electoral
victory was void due to governmental interference in campaigning, the opposition demanded
Gandhi s resignation. The ensuing strikes across the country including those of public services
such as railways coupled with the opposition s relentless demands of resignation led Gandhi to
declare a state of emergency in 1975 due to a state of internal threat. This decision effectively
censored the free press and jailed opposition leaders, marking the start of a dark period in Indian
History. These were the culminating political and social conditions in which Sholay was released in
1975. The film encapsulates the instability of India in the 70s through its storyline, mis en scene
and editing amongst other elements. The most prominent influence that is visibly noticeable in
Sholay is that of the Western genre. The film draws influence from filmmakers such as Sergio
Leone, especially his work in The Good, The

Open Availability In Nursing Home
We live in a day and age where most Canadians do not concern themselves with the odds of them
being placed in a long term care facility due to the presence of our health care system, however, a
greater number of individuals should be more cogitative about the possibility of needing to be
put in a home and that not being an immediate option. According to the Ontario Long Term Care
Association (2015) over 40% of the long term care homes in Ontario are small, with 96 or fewer
beds. With the aging of the baby boomers within the next couple of years, 96 beds are simply not
enough. The hardship of leaving the comfort of one s home is stressful enough, without having to
worry whether or not there will be open availability in the local nursing home. This report examines

There are two simple solutions to this problem: open more long term care facilities and have
them subsidized or offer optimal home care services. No person should be without care,
especially when they need it the most, just as no person should be forced to stay at home in
unsafe circumstances or be stuck in a hospital due to there being no rooms available at a nearby
long term care centre. There are few individuals who choose not to go into a long term care
facility, however there are also many people who don t have the option to enter a home due to
absence of facilities. As a result of lack of long term care amenities, waitlists have skyrocketed.
With respect to the long term care facility called Riverview Gardens, located in Chatham,
Ontario, 9 out of 10 people wait 437 days for basic accommodations (Community Care Access
Centre, 2016). The worst part is that most of the people who are on the waitlist are elderly,
meaning that it could be dangerous if they are forced to stay home while they wait for a
placement. The Family Caregiver Alliance (2015) reported that approximately 63% of people in
need of long term

##ethical Analysis Of Bradley Strawser s Moral Predators...
In Bradley Strawser s Moral Predators, Strawser argues that we are obligated to employ
uninhabited aerial vehicles (UAVs) weapon systems if it can be shown that their use does not
significantly reduce a warfighter s operational capability. By their very nature UAVs evoke many
ethical questions most of which are addressed by Strawser, who stresses there is no downside to
UAVs. I would argue there are certainly some downsides to this technology. The aim of this paper
is to provide legitimate moral objections to using drones in warfare.
The first issue concerning UAVs deals with the inability for an opponent to surrender under the
attack of a UAV strike. Additionally, I will discuss the possible increased inclination to start war...

Collateral damage is a immoral justification for downplaying the killing of innocent people those
of which UAVs still contribute to. That said, there is data to show that UAVs cause less
collateral damage than traditional warfare technologies, but they may, at the same time, make
war seem similar to a computer game, risk free and easy to pull the trigger. This leads me to
consider the possibility that there is a lower threshold for their use and increased inclination for
UAVs to proliferate and, perhaps, provoke a state of war. For obvious reasons (UAV pilots
operating from hundreds or thousands of miles away), there s less risk of injury and death to our
soldiers lives, which may have an affect on the impetus to start a war.
It is important to analyze the historical implications of UAVs. Would the United states have
entered war with Persian Gulf, Kosovo or Iraq if there was potential for retaliation on U.S soil.
Would the the United States have entered those wars, if those countries could choose to counter
attack with UAVs? A question of proportionate response also creates reasons to believe there are
moral downsides to count against using drones. The increase of asymmetric warfare techniques by
one side of the conflict leads to the rise of a response in asymmetric warfare by the other side. It is
not difficult to see similarities between drones and suicide bombers: one is high tech and the other
low tech, neither gives the other

The During The Middle Ages
During the time in which Rome existed in the Middle Ages it accumulated an abundant amount of
land and wealth. The way that Rome accomplished this was by defeating the peoples that ruled the
land they wanted and incorporating them into their ever expanding empire. The reason the Romans
were so successful at doing this is because of their technological advances, logistical capabilities,
and ability to implement strategy efficiently and safely. These when put together allow an army
during the Middle ages to deploy consistently with high moral and low mortality. Romans
dominated the battlefield in almost every battle they fought during their 507 year reign, holding off

Their strategy allowed the Romans to effectively turtle through enemies, however when this was
not possible the Romans utilized strategies like the wedge in which a group of Romans rush at
one point in a wedge shape towards the defending enemies pressing through the lines and
separating the enemy formation dividing and conquering the enemy. This tactic was used against
the Persians by Alexander the Great back when the Greeks ruled most of the western world.
With these things considered Rome was by far the most strategic empire during combat. Roman
weaponry alike their legions were a collection of tools that Romans have refined continuously
making them more and more effective. Even though Romans had weapons they created on their
own, many of the weapons in their arsenal were adopted from previous foes and refined to make
them more effective. A good example of this is the Gladius, a common sword among roman
legions almost every person had one was actually a sword from Spain that the Romans found
powerful. Other weapons that the Romans took in include the pilum, javelin, ballista, crossbow,
and hasta. Some strategies the Romans used were inspired by the strategies of fallen enemies that
the commander had seen and could implement correctly. The Idea of the legion itself was
originally Greek the Greek hoplites were technically the first part of a legion and when the Romans

Bolt Action Rifle History
A bolt action rifle is a very reliable, and very useful tool that was invented in 1824 by Johann
Nikolaus von Dreyse. The bolt action rifle has been used for hunting, protection, and has proved
to be a reliable weapon for military use in the defense of our country. The United States purchased
900 bolt action rifles in 1862 which were used in the American Civil War at the battle of Antietam.
These rifles were single shot, paper cartridges that proved to be much faster in reloading than the
muzzle loading riflepreviously used by American troops. Since then, America has used these rifles
in nearly every war fought. It wasn t until 1874 when the French began bolt action rifle production
of their own, that metal cartridges were invented and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the bolt is being rotated upward, the firing pin is also rotating into a locking mechanism
as a safety feature. The firing pin is the needle looking rod that strikes the butt of the shell and
ignites the primer compound. After rotating the bolt all the way upward, pull the bolt all the
way back until you can no longer move it. This action ejects the previous shell and the chamber
is now empty and ready to receive the next shell. If the rifle is a single shot bolt action, now is
when a new cartridge will need to be manually inserted into the open chamber of the rifle. Then
the bolt is pushed all the way forward which loads the new shell into the chamber. If the rifle is
an internal or an external magazine fed rifle, the bolt will strip the next round from the
magazine and push it forward until it is locked into the firing chamber. Now, push the bolt all the
way down. This action locks the shell in the chamber with what are called locking lugs attached
to the rotating receiver. This will lock the bullet in the chamber and free the firing pin. Release
the safety on the rifle which will be located either on or near the trigger guard or on top of rifle
back where the stock and metal action of the rifle meet. The rifle is now ready to

Organ Shortage
Within the past few years, the demand for organs has increased at an alarming rate. This is due
mostly to the fact that diseases and illnesses are becoming more prevalent and are brought on
due to a significant change in American lifestyles. Failing organs can be caused by certain ways of
living such as being a smoker or becoming obese. Many people are in need of a vital organor know
someone who needs an organ; these people are greatly impacted by a decision involving organ
donation. Vital organs, such as the brain, heart, kidneys, lungs, and liver are involved, which
means these people are in life and death situations. While organ transplants have created a way to
give and receive life to others, the process has actually become controversial... Show more content

Different countries have different systems to organize organ donation. These systems are
known as either opt out or opt in . The United States is currently under an opt in system which
basically means that we assume that everyone does not wish to become an organ donor, unless
is it made clear in their lifetime. An opt out system is one in which we assume that everyone
wishes to become an organ donor after death, otherwise made explicitly known during lifetime.
It is proposed that the solution to the organ shortage crisis in the United states is to adopt the opt
out system. This system makes more sense because if a person is so passionate about not being
a donor, they will voice that while they are living. Our current system does not encourage people
to actually take the time to make a decision about being an organ donor or not. Instead, the
system we currently have allows people to stay uninformed about decisions that could in the end
give someone else a shot at living their life. An article written in the European Journal of Health
Law talks about the bill of 2009 that allows presumed consent for organ donation in European
countries. Lisa Cherkassky, Lecturer in Law, includes specifics details written in the bill such
as, if a person during their lifetime has not registered to an objection to his body that after death,
it will be presumed that he [has] consented to such a donation. In the US, we currently must
register to donate, with a system like this, it would be the opposite (registering to not donate).
Cherkassky also includes how the bill seeks to protect people as well when it comes to death, she
says unless two registered medical practitioners have satisfied themselves that the person is dead,
no organs will be allowed to be removed. Adopting a bill with a policy of protection

How To Write A Rhetorical Analysis Of A Snowstorm
This painting is about a lower class family that is going through a snowstorm in the middle of the
winter to survive instead of just staying inside the warm house. This painting is called the
snowstorm and was painted by Francisco Goya to illustrate a lighter but still hard time in life. This
painting is about a family out in a snowstorm and illustrates a lot about the character of the family
with the hardships that they went through, along with the desperation and willpower to survive.
While the family is out in the middle of the snowstorm they have many hardships to deal with.
The family is all grouped together in the middle of the painting with their jackets wrapped
around them and their heads facing down to keep warm with snow in every direction of them as
if they don t want to travel. This shows that the family is cold and, yet they have to face the
hardship of the winter. The tree next to the family is severely swayed to the right the branch in
front of the family was broken off from the tree and laying on the ground showing how hard it was
to face the cold and wind of the storm. A dog is in front of the family at attention on all four feet
with the dog s paw prints trailing the dog showing that the family is moving in the direction
away from the prints. There is a dead pig draped across and the back of a mule and tied down to it,
along with a man on the left side has a gun in between his arms tucked into his body as if he is the
one who hunts the food for the family.

Reflective Essay On Homelessness
Selflessness is defined as the act of giving without the expectation of anything in return. I believe
to be truly selfless you have to exhibit a quality of humility, by making a difference in the lives
of others in a positive manner. Parents have one of the most important jobs in the world, being
the field of making people is a tough job so I ve been told working three hundred sixty five days
twenty four hours seven days a week with no brakes in between must be hard. My mother who
loved with her whole being, tormented with a mental disability which caged her in the hospital
for the most of my adolescence, is a Christian woman who taught my sisters and I the values
having a giving and humility. My family and I have experienced homelessness more time than I
care to admit so when my mother saw a homeless women with her kids on the street and invited
them into her home without question, I saw how selfless services such as this can impact the

Green Design
John A. Walker argues that designers must undertake an ecological role. Arguably, humanity is re
designing the planet Earth every hour of every day, either deliberately by rational planning or
inadvertently with billions of unconsidered actions, and in the main ruining it. We all carry a
responsibility for the destruction and therefore we all need to mend our ways, but of course some
groups within society have more power than others to take remedial action: engineers, architects,
planners and designers for instance. If they became pro active rather than re active, they could play
a crucial role: their skills, imagination and ingenuity could help preserve the planet for future
generations. Green or ecological design is one positive... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And on May 12 this year the Design Museum held a well attended conference entitled Green
Design Beyond the Bandwagon? which included speakers from Zanussi, Volvo, New Consumer
Magazine, Design Week and the Labour Party. An Ecological Design Association has been
founded in Britain with the intention of encouraging training, professional standards, product
testing and ecodesign in general. In terms of transportation, green design ranged from changes in
the engines of conventional cars to take unleaded petrol and to reduce fuel consumption, to
Anthony Howard s Africar (a cheap, wooden vehicle designed for Africa). Volvo in Sweden
renewed its long term commitment to making environmentally friendly cars and buses, while
Renault in France designed an electric car. Modifying existing vehicles is a step in the right
direction but it does nothing to limit the ever growing number of cars on the roads. If population
growth has to be limited, so does the growth in cars. Many greens would prefer to walk and cycle
or to use public transport. Once the will exists to improve and expand the latter, many more
opportunities for the green transport designer will occur. Fashion also witnessed changes during the
1980s. Anita Roddick s chain of Bodyshops was highly successful in selling natural cosmetics with
minimum packaging; campaigns against the use of animal furs for clothes cut

The authors not only provided a longitudinal data that demonstrated safety of SCC DBS for patients
with MDD and BP, but also introduced DBS as an antidepressant intervention for patients with BP.
However, further changes and clarifications are needed for efficacy measurements and parameter
adjustments for changing the currents of stimulation and for reporting results. While this study has
potentially profound clinical implications, the authors should resubmit the study with changes
before being accepted in the publication. The inclusion and exclusion criteria for the screening
and preoperative evaluation phase were well defined as shown in Fig. 1. The authors defined
TRD patients as patients who were not adequately responding at least four antidepressant
interventions and scoring at least three on the Antidepressant Treatment History Form (Sackeim,
2001). This guideline to define TRD is comparable to other controlled trials in similar
experiments (i.e. DBS for patients with TRD) (Fava, 2003). Also, the authors accounted for
potential confounding variables by excluding all patients who showed contraindications for DBS
surgery and its active stimulation. The authors had a nice balance of patients between MDD (n
=10) and BP (n=7) prepared for SCC DBS surgery. However, the following revisions on parameter
adjustments are recommended to improve the paper. All patients initially received 130 Hz, 91 Вµs

Emily Dickinson Essay example
Emily Dickinson, recognized as one of the greatest American poets of the nineteenth century, was
born December 10, 1830 in Amherst, Massachusetts (Benfey, 1). Dickinson s greatness and
accomplishments were not always recognized. In her time, women were not recognized as serious
writers and her talents were often ignored. Only seven of her 1800 poems were ever published.
Dickinsons life was relatively simple, but behind the scenes she worked as a creative and talented
poet. Her work was influenced by poets of the seventeenth centuryin England, and by her puritan
upbringing. Dickinson was an obsessively private writer. Dickinson withdrew herself from the
social contractaround the age of thirty and devoted herself, in secret, to writing.... Show more

Only five poems can be dated prior to 1858, the year in which she began gathering her work into
hand written copies bound loosely with thread to make small packets called ?????. She sent these
fives early poems to friends in letters or as valentines. One of them was published anonymously
without her permission in the Springfield Republican in 1852 ( ). This was the first time any of
Emily s writings were published. After 1858, she apparently convinced herself that she had a
genuine talent, because now, the packets were carefully stored in an ebony box probably awaiting
discovery by future readers or publishers. Perhaps Emily knew that her writing was too far
advanced for her time and that her accomplishments would be recognized and given the recognition
that they deserved in the future.
Publication remained a considerable conflict throughout her writing. A publisher for her writing
was never easily arranged. She befriended Samuel Bowles, the editor of the Republican and for
four years sent him poems and letters for publication. Because Bowles did not comprehend
Dickinson s poems only two were published, and even those were published anonymously. Both
poems were heavily edited and given titles that she had not given or was not aware of. Only five
other poems were published in her lifetime, each altered by editors.

poems. She had known him only through his essays in the

The Case Of A Builder Carrying Out Work At New South Wales...
Introduction
In the case of a builder carrying out work in New South Wales under a construction contract for a
commercial office space, legal principles would need to be understood and followed by the builder
to ensure that both the building of and the finished project fits the imposed legal requirements. In
New South Wales, the NSW Commercial Building Code specifies the criteria that all contemporary
commercial buildings and developments must comply with. For a project the size of the
$20,000,000 commercial office space development there would undoubtedly be a series of legal
principles that must be complied with. A Contractual agreement and details such as the construction
period, insurance specifics, allowances, defects liability period, date of commencement and
practical completion, payment and much more must be comprehended by all parties (particularly
the builder) to ensure the project is built to the correct standard and within the designated time
specifications.
The facts
Latent defects are discovered after the $20,000,000 commercial office space construction project is
completed by the builder.
The plaintiff holds that the latent defects in the office space are a result of defective building
works and thus claims that there has been a breach of contract as the builder acted negligently as
they had a duty to take reasonable care in the construction of the offices.
The plaintiff therefore seeks to claim pure economic loss and sue the builder for damages.

Discrimination, Policies, And The Gender Wage Gap
Discrimination, Policies, and The Gender Wage Gap For decades, the gender wage gap has been an
ongoing issue in Canada. Since then, women s rights have changed and allowed them to obtain
career positions much like men. Although women have successfully fought for their rights, the
issues of the gender wage gap, and sexist stereotypes continue in Canada. The Canadian
Government needs to strengthen its discriminationpolicies so it can rectify and allow for equal
opportunity, support parental leave, and narrow the genderwage gap. Gender based stereotyping in
the workforce informs societal perceptions and assumptions of what is accepted as a typical
male or female roles within the workplace. Experts still disagree as to which variables inform
each stereotype. One expert, Morley Gunderson suggests that the difference in preference towards
the chosen occupation is the key indicator, not gender profiling (M. Baker, M. Drolet 2010).
Another opinion is that women are more likely to pursue careers within health and education
sectors, whereas men are more inclined to pursue engineering and other related technological
fields (J. Cool, 2010). This shows a strong sense of gender bias, and harsh stereotyping of the
gender roles in society. Both men and women have a place within technological, and educational
fields of work. Gender based stereotyping is also present in the expectations of women outside of
the workforce. Employers and executives may anticipate a

combined with baking soda and baking powder. The baking soda and baking powder are the
binding agents in this recipe. If there is no binding agent in a gluten free bread then the bread
will not be elastic. The reason tapioca flour rises the most is mainly because of the baking
powder. Another binding agent in this recipe are the eggs. Since eggs have protein in them it will
help to make the bread elastic. If you use to much baking powder then the bread will break. On the

Sildenafil Citrate Research Paper
What is sildenafil citrate? Sildenafil citrate is one of the drugs of choice for the treatment of
erectile dysfunction. It is a selective inhibitor of cGMP PDE5 or the cyclic guanosine
monophosphate specific phosphodiesterase type 5. Since erectile dysfunction or impotence is
estimated to affect more than 140 million men around the world, many tend to resort to
medications such as this drug. More than half of these affected men have physical or medical
issues that lead to their impotence such as diabetes, and urological, neurological and circulatory
conditions. How does the drug work? Penile erection is caused by an engorgement of the penis
which occurs when there is an increase in the delivery of blood by the blood vessels, while
decreasing the removal of blood. During normal sexual activity, nitric oxide is released from the
penis. This substance will activate guanylate cyclase which will in turn produce cGMP. cGMP is
the primary reason for penile erection as it affects the amount of blood being delivered and
removed from the penis by the blood vessels.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Film Analysis Of Robert Altman s Gosford Park
Set in the 1930s, near the end of the era of domestic service in the U.K, Robert Altman s Gosford
Park through its film design and its usage of heritages spaces and period details examines the
separate worlds upstairs and downstairs of rich society people and their servants at a country
mansion.
Sir William McCordle is a wealthy industrialist turned aristocrat, with a magnificent country state
named Gosford Park in the English countryside, complete with staff. It is a world where
everything runs in order both amongst the bejeweled guests lunching and dining at their
considerable leisure and in the attic bedrooms and stark work stations where the servant s labor for
the comfort of their employers. Whether they like it or not, everyone knows their place. But all is
not as it seems. Part comedy of manners and part mystery, the film is a moving portrait of events
that bridge generations, class, sex, tragic personal history and culminate in a murder.
Ultimately revealing the intricate relations of the above and below stairs worlds with great
clarity, Gosford Park illuminates a society and way of life quickly coming to an end as it is a time
when World War II has not yet started, but the status quo has begun to shift away from the strict
social structure so integral to England for hundreds of years.
There are various elements in the movie which portray Britishness and establish class differences.
In setting the film at a historic country house, the film does

Comparing Fortune In Hamlet And The Prince
Hamlet, written by William Shakespeare, is a play about a prince who needs to get revenge for the
murder of his father. The Prince, written by NiccolГІ Machiavelli, is a treatise on how to take and
hold on to political power. Both Hamlet and The Prince contain the concept of fortune as a common
theme throughout each work. Fortune is talked about in similar ways in both, including how
fortune is a woman, how much control fortune has over people, and how fortune is like water.
Fortune is associated with the goddess Fortuna from Roman mythology in both Hamletand The
Prince. Fortuna is the Roman goddess of luck, fate, and fortune. Fortuna is referred to in a sexual
manner by both Shakespeare and Machiavelli. In Hamlet she is referred to as a strumpet:... Show

Again, Fortune is called a strumpet, as First Player pleads with all the other gods to destroy her

in The Prince:
My opinion on the matter is this: it s better to be impulsive than cautious; fortune is female and if
you want to stay on top of her you have to slap and thrust. (Machiavelli 136 137)
Machiavelli is using sex as a metaphor to say that to subdue Fortune, one must be impulsive and
assert their dominance over her. Hamlet believes he leaves too much up to fortune because he
thinks too much without taking enough action. In his to be or not to be soliloquy, he reflects on
how he overthinks things, saying conscience does make cowards of us all . Hamlet wishes he
wasn t like this and admires people like Horatio and Fortinbras for taking action and not letting
fortune control them. Hamlet praises Horatio for the way he deals with fortune:

Virginity in 17th and 18th Century Poetry Essay examples
Virginity in 17th and 18th Century Poetry
Benjamin Franklin once said that there were only two inevitable things in life: death and taxes. He
got it half right. They did, in fact, die with pretty regular certainty. However, what was inevitable
was sex. Without it, there wouldn t be any new people to die and poor Ben Franklin would have
been completely wrong. The only hindrance to this certainty was (and remains) virgins. The realm
of the chaste has been explored in poetry throughout time, but never was the subject as thoroughly
probed as in the 17th and 18th century. To judge by the poets of the time, one would conclude that
next to dying the citizens of this era spent most of their time either praising the virtuous, trying to ...

Again, the virtue itself is not exactly being praised so much as being alluded to as a component of
something good.
The women also had their say. In Katherine Phillips s A Married State (1679), the many
advantages of a life of chastity are listed. Phillips says A virgin s state is crowned with much
content; / It s always happy as it s innocent. In addition to innocence, Phillips points out that there
are no grouchy husbands, no screaming children and nothing else to distract you from your
service to God. In fact, wistful women wishing they d kept their virginity and wedding vows to
themselves wrote many poems in this era. It is a telling social commentary that so many married
women would wish themselves back to live a life of chaste penitence than to enter into so called
wedded bliss.
The most common theme in virginity poems is that of men trying to get women to change their
minds and go to bed with them. Many poets tried to use persuasion on their objects of desire. In
Robert Herrick s To the Virgins to Make Much of Time, the well known first line Gather ye
rosebuds while ye may appears. This poem is an appeal to virtuous women to use it while they ve
got it, per se. In the proud tradition of soldiers who will be sent off tomorrow who just know they
aren t coming back and hedonists everywhere, Herrick emphasizes that time is short and virgins are

Essay On War Of 1812 Justifiable
The War of 1812: Justifiable for the United States The war of 1812 could either be viewed as a
justifiable war or pointless to the American and English people. The United States declared war
on the British on June 18, 1812, for many reasons. To some, the causes of the war were not grave
enough for a real war to erupt. However, there are three main motives that clearly made it valid to
declare war. The British s actions of impressment, efforts to restrict the United State s trade, and
the conquest for land in Canada and Florida were major contributors of the war of 1812being
considered justified for America. Before the war started, the British navy had a huge lack of
sailors due to circumstances of low pay or low skill level ( The Mariners Museum: Birth of the
United StatesNavy. ). Obviously, the British were not a fan of their scarcity of men. Britain
decided to start impressing naval officers, meaning that they would force any British sailor they
could find to serve for the the royal navy( Lambert, Andrew). British seamen started to abandon
the British ships they worked on to work for American merchants who would pay them more. This
led the Royal Navy to the impressment of American soldiers as well. An estimated figure of about
6,000 America men were pressed and forced to serve in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The issue of impressment was something that needed to be dealt with not only in America, but
globally. If the United States did not fight against the trade barriers, who knows what could have
happened to our economy. The land we gained in Florida was just one minor contribution to the
large, beautiful country that is known today. Plus, if the war never occurred, the United States
would not have the Star Spangled Banner or the iconic Uncle Sam that all Americans

Goals Of Diversity In The Workplace
Since the Civil Rights Act of 1964, it has been illegal to discriminate in regards to hiring, firing or
promotions based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin or disability (U.S. Equal
Employment, 2016). Organizations have adhered to this federal regulation, some more than others,
by incorporating this law into their policies and procedures for personnel. Adhering to the law
through the hiring process and during orientation by informing them that these practices are
prohibited in regards to their performance and work. In all fairness, most organizations have done
a good job in adhering to this law. If not only because by not doing so would cause potential for
serious lawsuits. However, many organizations focus only on the numbers of... Show more content

This can be measured through employment satisfaction surveys and analysis of human capital in
regards to gender and race. Once this analysis is conducted and completed by human resources it
will be easier to assess and implement strategies and goals to address these barriers. The second
goal should be to ensure that the current workforce is a reflection of the community in which the
organization serves. This can be measured by ensuring that the organization has a solid affirmative
action and equal employment opportunity plan in place then by assessing the data collected
through hiring to the relevant data from the surrounding demographic of the area to ensure that the
organization compares favorably. The third goal should be to attract, develop and retain a diverse
workforce in an inclusive manner that values and respects differences. This can be measure over
time by analyzing the retention rates of each demographic group in your organization. Employment
satisfaction surveys will also measure the effectiveness of this goal on employee happiness and
whether they feel that their differences are appreciated in the organization. The last goal should be
to increase the diversity of the top management team and senior level management of the
organization. The can be measured effectively by evaluating the senior positions to ensure that
there is an equal representation of women and minorities in top level positions of the organization.
This particular goal is extremely important in ensuring that the organization values and continues

Black Chickpeas Research Paper
There is something really appealing about black colored foods, perhaps, because they are not
something we get our mouth s around everyday. Of course there is chocolate, espresso, black
beans and Beluga lentils, but even less common are squid ink pasta, charcoal bread, black garlic
and black quinoa. Rarer still are black chickpeas or ceci neri.
These foods from the dark side are filled with more antioxidants than light colored foods because
of their high pigment content. In fact, purple, blue, red and black whole foods are packed with
anthocyanins, a powerful phytonutrient that may help reduce the risk of diabetes, heart disease and
certain types of cancer. Benefits certainly worth crossing over to the dark side for!

Heat a saucepan, add the extra virgin olive oil and fry the guanciale (or pancetta until translucent.
Next add the shallots (or onion), garlic and saute until fragrant. Add the fresh cherry tomatoes (*If
using canned cherry tomatoes see below) and cook until they blister and pop, you help them
along by pressing them with the back of a wooden spoon. Once they burst you can add the tomato
paste and water to thicken your sauce and add some rich flavor. Finally, add the black chickpeas,
rosemary and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer until flavorful, about 30 minutes. If the sauce
thickens too much simply add a little bit of the pasta cooking water.

Swot Analysis Of Topshop
Topshop Overview
Topshop was founded in 1964 in Sheffield England as a high fashion store for the young and
different generation. Today they currently have over 500 store locations across 58 countries and 86
of them in the United States. They still follow the same young and high fashion identity that the
store was built on.
Introduction Topshop Green
One thing that is missing from the current market place is a fast fashion store that carries eco
friendly clothing. There is currently no store that has a fast supply chain and produces inexpensive
clothing for a low price. Fast Fashion is one of the worst things that has happened to our
environment because of how the clothes are made and how fast they are being thrown out by
consumers. A missing category in the fast fashion industry is an ethical/ sustainable clothing.
Topshop Green will fill in this niche market that is just starting to come together. This line will
focus on fashion forward clothing but the first thought when creating the clothes will be how to
make them as ecofriendly as possible. This line will target the millennial generation because they
are the most aware of what s going on with our planet and will be attracted to a sustainable clothing
line.
Target Customer
Our target customer will be females 18 35 year olds, which is the Millennial Generation. The
average income of our customers is $40 thousand and up but income isn t very important because

Straight Chained Alcohols
Discussion
This experiment set out to investigate the relation between both straight and branch chained
alcohols at various carbon lengths. It was hypothesised that the longest straight chained alcohol
would produce the highest level of enthalpy. It was thought that branched chained molecules would
have weaker attraction forces due to the fact that they couldn t line up in as a close proximity
compared to straight chained alcohols. Resulting in weaker van de waals forces betwixt the
branched molecules. Thus allowing, a weaker force necessary to break the molecule apart for
combustion (Salters advanced chemistry, 2000). This would then make one assume a smaller rate of
enthalpy compared to straight chained alcohols. However, as seen evidently on the graph, the
branch chained alcohol clearly disproved this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To further improve this percentage, it is recommended that insulation techniques be carried out on
top of the copper rod conduction method to improve efficiency. Insulation is important as it further
aids in containing the heat produced from combustion. Further allowing more reliable testing.
Testing the enthalpy for control with just an aluminum can using tert butanol produced a low
efficiency of 16%. While testing again with tert butanol with the copper increased the efficiency
by 32.54% above the control. This shows that the insulation/conduction worked. The method of
investigation took into account various variables such as the amount of water, height of retort
stand and so on to further increase the validity of the investigation. The only thing in the method
which would further improve validity would be to create a way in which to stop the flame from
burning right after a five minute testing period per alcohol. This is because valuable grams of
alcohol were burnt whilst the can was lifted out of the shroud, in order to place the cap back

The Main Characters Of The Pianist s The Pianist
The Pianist is based on the true story of a renowned Polish Jewish musician who lived through
World War 2 in Warsaw, Poland. At the start of the war, Jewish families had to wear white arm
bands with a blue Star of David and were only allowed a small amount of money. Families were
sent off to concentration camps in packed railroad cars and the families who remained in Warsaw
starved to death. The only reason why the main character, Wladyslaw Szpilman, was able to
survive was through the people who helped give him food, shelter and basic necessities. The
kindness of others helped Wladyslaw survive through the wartimes. Kindness is defined as, an
individual that possesses a sympathetic or helpful nature. One of the main themes within The
Pianist is that kindness can be found in the most unexpected places, even in Nazi Germany.
Wladyslaw Szpilman found help from countless people, even from Germans who were not
Jewish. Irena Sendler was a social worker who lived in Warsaw. She was a part of the Polish
Underground and a Holocaust resistance. It is estimated that she saved more than 2,000 Jewish
children from the Ghetto. She was awarded the Righteous among the Nations in 1965. Irena
Sendler said,
To save one Jewish child, ten Poles and two Jews had to risk death. To betray that same child and
the family that hid him required only one informer or, worse still, one blackmailer. The risk of
being caught by the SS was not prison, but death death for the entire family. (Sendler)

Analysis Of To Pimp A Butterfly By Kendrick Lamar
Kendrick Lamar is a hip hop rapper who has been in the music industry for a few years. The first
song of his I listened to was The Recipe on his album good kid M.A.A.D. city and at the time I
did not really take a liking to his music. After watching Kendrick s performance at the 2014
Grammy Awards with Imagine Dragons, I began to listen to more and more of his music. Kendrick
Lamar s latest studio album To Pimp A Butterfly, is great because of how instead of mainly rapping
about the common topic of music, sex, drugs, and infidelity in relationships, he chooses to base this
album on the struggles of the common people. Although throughout the album he does occasionally
refer to sex to emphasize his opinion on how he views himself and how... Show more content on

Kendrick not only feels that the white on black crime is outrageous and uncalled for. At the
beginning of each verse Kendrick expresses that he s the biggest hypocrite of 2015 because
while he does not agree or like the racism of this country, there are still African Americans who
still participate in black on black crimes within their cities, yet want to chant that black lives
matter. I m African American, I m African I m black as the heart of a f**kin Aryan I m black as
the name of Tyrone and Darius. Excuse my French but f**k you no, f**k y all That s as blunt as
it gets, I know you hate me, don t you? you hate my people, I can tell cause it s threats when I see
you I can tell cause your ways deceitful, part of the third verses seems to stem from the anger of
Kendrick at how African Americans are treated in this country, and how racism, although slavery
has been abolished since 1865, still 150 years later, there is still apparent struggles for the
minority. In the final verse of the song, Kendrick states So why did I weep when Trayvon Martin
was in the street when gang banging make me kill a n***a blacker than me? Hypocrite, where he
once again he exhibits his pain and regret for the deaths of young black men, and partly blames

Comparing The Road Not Taken And Song Of The Open Road
Poems can have many different meanings, some darker and deeper than others, and are concealed
in a puzzle of metaphors and figurative language. The Road Not Taken written by Robert Frost,
The Road at The End written by Carl Sandburg, Song of the Open Road written by Walt Whitman,
and The Journey written by Mary Oliver all have different meanings than first perceived. Song of
the Open Road depicts positive feelings in the protagonist. The RoadNot Taken is a fairly neutral
point of view of life as it is neither positive nor negative. The Journey can be categorized as neutral
as well, but has hints of negativity, and as for The Road at The End, it takes a dark twist as The
End is perceived as the end of life.
As said before, the poem Song of the Open Road is happy with the protagonist exhibiting strong
feelings of confidence throughout the entire first verse by saying Afoot and light hearted I take to
the open road, healthy, free, the world before me, the long brown path before me leading
wherever I choose. The protagonist means that he or she have no dark feelings by following his or
her desired path in life, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Living Like Weasels By Annie Dillard
In the essay that I chose Living like Weasels the author, Annie Dillard wrote about her encounter
after seeing a wild weasel for the first time in her life. The weasel was ten inches long, thin as a
curve, a muscled ribbon, brown as fruitwood, soft furred, and alert. His face was fierce, small,
pointed as Lizard s, and with two black eyes. Her idea is that humans can benefit from living as
wild and as free as a weasel. Dillard uses comparisons between the life of a wild weasel and the
life of humans while exploring the theme of the quest for identity/coming of age.
This essay begins with the author presenting a description of weasels, giving the audience heaps
of details about the habits of the weasel, a physical description, where it lives, its environment,
and how it acts. She also tells us how Ernest Thompson shot an eagle from the sky and found the
skull of a weasel clinging to its throat symbolizing how the weasel died protecting its life.
Dillard then moves on to elaborate on her experience where she is sitting on a tree trunk near
Hollins Pond, a remarkable piece of shallowness (146), then weasel appears from a wild rose
bush and presents itself in front of her. She looks it in the eyes as it looks back, then the weasel
disappeared following its instincts. After observing the weasel, she emphasizes her thoughts on
how humans should live more like them. The significance of this story and its title lies in the
desire to be able to live life aggressive, vicious, and

The Emancipation Proclamation Research Paper
The emancipation proclamation was a proclamation published by Abraham Lincoln on January of

Abraham Lincoln was more concerned about preserving the union of United States than the
abolition of the slaves. So he decided to publish The Proclamation like a military strategy. The
proclamation stated that all the people who were slaves becomes free immediately. Because it was
a proclamation of the president Abraham Lincoln, it was only for the states that were part of The
Confederacy and those who were in rebellion against United States. Lincoln s goal was starting to

Mountain Man Essay
Currently, because the market of traditional beer is decreasing with an annual rate of 4%, whereas
the market of light beer is increasing, Mountain Man is thinking to extend its product line to light
bear. However, we don t know if it is a good idea because of the difficulty transferring the brand
equity and the uncertainty of cannibalization and dilution. I suggest we should still extend the
brand and launch Mountain Man light in following process.
First of all, Mountain Man light should target on female and younger generation. According to the
profile of beer drinkers, females account for 42% of light beer drinkers and those who are younger
than 35 years old account for 29%, which means the total proportion of them is as high as 58.8%.

because younger people are willing to pay twice of the price than those over 35 and it also stand

beer is more expensive than lager, it s not expensive at all, compared to those famous companies.
According to the market share (barrels) and total sales of beer, Mountain Man supposed to earn
$191 million dollars, but their actual sales is much lower than it, which means Mountain Man
Lager is cheaper than the average price (Appendix2). Next, choose restaurants and bars as the
main selling channel of Mountain Man light, and also sell it in off premise locations. The reason
why we decide it is because people tend to drink light beer with meal and because selling

Analysis Report On Management Accounting System
A management accounting system collects accounting information and converts the information to
an analysis report in order to help managers make correct decisions and let stakeholders fully
understand how the company runs. In another word, the main purpose of the management
accounting system is assessing the company s performance with the help of different
measurements. Thus, managementaccounting system reform should be closely linked to
performance measurement. The most traditional way to measure company s performance is
comparing the historical financial figures. However, such measure has been challenged by both
academics and practitioners as the dysfunction consequences in assessing rewards for managers and
issues in capturing customer quality have been recognized. Under this competitive environment,
one traditional performance measurement may not be good enough to fit all the businesses. In
order to help businesses measure their performance accurately, the innovations and changes may
take place when designing and adopting the management accounting system. Focusing on
innovations and changes part firstly, two major schools were introduced to companies. They are the
stakeholder approach and shareholder approach, respectively. According to the stakeholder
approach, the competition on many dimensions will let the companies realize that they

Our first subject of study, Stella Adler, was one of the students of Stanislavskiz and was the only
American actress to study under him. Although, I didn t identify with all of Stella Adler s
technique s as a whole as it doesn t seem to take as in depth of an approach as some of the other
acting methods, some of her techniques such as acting is doing I found very helpful. When Adler
says acting is doing she is referring to how every actormust have a purpose for an action. I found
this to be important for me to remember as often I found myself in my scenes doing way more
than I needed to. I always had to remind myself of what Meisner said, less is more! Also, Stella

I am at my best when someone pushes me out of my shell and that is why I enjoy a brutal honesty
between my acting partner and myself.
For my own acting method I identify most with the teachings of Sanford Meiser. His process in
finding realism within imaginary circumstances is one that is unparalleled. His method is
effective for me as I do not like technicality while acting, I prefer to rely purely on emotions. I
believe actors should be attempting to put themselves within the shell of the person they
portray. So much so that what they do as that character, becomes as real as if they themselves
were the character. I disagree strongly with Strasberg s acting method in that actors can just tap
in to past emotions in order to play their character. I do not believe if an actor has to play an
emotional scene they need to remember when a relative died, or something else extremely
emotional happened I their life. Not only do I believe its cruel to the actor, I believe it is
cheating in that the actor cannot possible be in character if their mind is elsewhere. Stella Adler
said about the Strasberg method that Drawing on emotions I experienced, for example, when my
mother died to create a role, is sick and schizophrenic. If that is acting, I don t want to do it.
Some of what Strasberg says however I do agree with. Besides Strasberg s affective memory idea,
I agree with everything else he has to say about Method acting. I like the idea of

Many wonder why the spinal cord is not able to heal itself like the other parts of the body such
as how the skin injured on a leg can regenerate and heal itself or how muscle can repairs itself is
it gets strained. But the spinal cord is different. That is because some of the cells in the central
nervous system are so complex and specialized that they do not have the ability to regenerate.
In come a stem cell which is an immature cell that can become a different cell, or even transform
into one of many different cells. Most stem cells can also renew or divide themselves
indefinitely. These two characteristics are what present a new pathway to repairing damage to
the human body caused by trauma, degeneration and disease. Stem cells keep on generating in
the body and take place of the cells which have died such as in a spinal cord injury. The process of
using stem cells for spinal cord injury is controversial for some and involves taking one s own
bone marrow or a donated human umbilical cord. A licensed anesthesiologist harvests bone marrow
from both hips under light general anesthesia in a hospital operating room, the procedure takes
about one and half to two hours. The bone marrow derived stem cells have to pass rigorous testing
for quality and to ensure there is not bacterial contamination before they are administered to the
patient. In the same fashion

  • 2. The World Wide Web as Social Hypertext Something curious is happening on the World Wide Web. It is undergoing a slow transformation from an abstract, chaotic, information web into what I call a social hypertext. Initially, I didn t pay much attention to the Web. After all, it was just a new take on distributed information server systems such as WAIS[8] and Gopher[1]. True, it was easier to use than WAIS, and the ability of Web browsers to display formatted text and graphics with embedded links made it more attractive and engaging than either WAIS or Gopher. But there was nothing really new; it was an incremental advance, a new combination of well known functionality. So I mentally categorized the Web as just the latest fashion to sweep the internet. In this I was quite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The difficulty is that I may not have time to comment on it, or I may glance at it and find it uninteresting, and so I am left in an awkward position. The same issues arise, mutatis mutandis , in sharing one s own work. In short, the ability to find out what someone else is doing, without mutual knowledge of what s happening, is a boon to both parties. This non mutuality of knowledge is one of the characteristics that makes social hypertext different from more direct forms of communication. While the non mutuality and socially driven search strategies are important practical outcomes of the transformation of the web into social hypertext, I believe that in the long run it is the use of web pages for personal portrayal that will have the most profound effects. Note that while personal portrayal is a new type of usage of the web, it is very ordinary behavior in the real world. People go to considerable effort and expense to manage their appearance. Portrayal management ranges from the ways in which people act in public [4, 5], to the clothes they wear [7] and the goods they possess and consume [2]. The World Wide Webis one of the first venues where individuals can construct portrayals of themselves using information rather than consumer goods as their palette. For the first time, individuals can project huge amounts of detailed information about themselves to a mass audience they are no longer limited to assembling montages of consumer items that at best ... • 3. Herman Melville s Bartleby The Scrivener Wall Street is commonly regarded as a vicious battleground occupied by thousands of money hungry individuals that wish to strike it big by climbing the corporate ladder by any means necessary. While many win and many more lose everything as people try to succeed on Wall Street, Melville sees a problem outside the bounds of losing and gaining money. Melville realized that an existential battle was simultaneously taking place within the minds of these young people. In Herman Melvilles Bartleby, the Scrivener, Melville emits contempt for society and its corrupt values by creating underdeveloped characters that lack typical characteristics of fully established individuals. With work, money, profits, and productivity at the center of the universe,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The symptoms of said illness include paleness, namelessness, and an impaired sense of right from wrong. An incubator for lifelessness, Wall Street is capable of stripping away the elements of life that give people a unique sense of color in their lives. One s name, family, and personal life are the first things to go when one is infected with Wall Street s illness. The narrator has surpassed this phase and reached the point in which his sense of conscience has begun to abandon him. Presumably, the next phase involves the narrator losing all bodily color and physical sense of life. In Melville s eyes, Wall Street takes a vibrant individual, infects them with the sole desire to make money, then proceeds to strip them of the aspects that make them functional individuals in society. Through the detailed description of Bartleby s actions and physical appearance as well as the narrator s lack of typical personal attributes, Melville portrays his criticisms about the values fostered by Wall ... However, in the event of the infection reaching the public, there is a significant morbidity and mortality rate. Hospitalization and death rates can be as high as 33% and 3% respectively. However, if any case of infection were to come to light, Mike s will be portrayed by the media as an unethical and unscrupulous organization which can ruin its reputation. * Minimize financial losses and retain restaurant chain s business: The upside to this option is prevention of losses on the infected food lot. • 7. Homer Bad Man Analysis Modern society relies heavily on media, a form of mass communication, to inherit its values and beliefs on political and social issues occurring around the world. Two of the most common forms of communication in this field are current affairs programs and news broadcasts. Due to the mass production and high demand for news around the world, the images and stories presented to the public are often skewed, therefore sometimes misrepresenting the truth behind the stories being reported on. As mediahas become more commonplace in modern society, modern texts have explored this idea more frequently. Both the television series, Frontline by Rob Sitch et al and The Simpsons episode Homer Bad Man, written by Greg Daniels and directed by Jeffery Lynch... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The episode has the media depict Homer Simpson, the protagonist, as sexually harassing a younger woman when the audience can see that Homer was really trying to retrieve his precious gummy bear from the back of the woman s pants. When the woman retaliates to what she assumes is an act of harassment, the media begin to get involved and a fictitious news station called Rock Bottom asks to interview Homer to get his account of the story. The report begins with the woman portrayed as a university honours student who devoted her life to kids, (Daniels Lynch, 1994, 10:46) and Homer as a grossly overweight pervert. (Daniels Lynch, 1994, 10:49) When she is spoken about, the music is angelic and sweet which suddenly contrasts to the sinister non diagetic sound played when Homer is depicted. Later in the interview, Daniels and Lynch humorously show the blatant and obvious cuts in the interview by the clock in the background constantly switching back and forward in time, and Homer s words cutting from sweet and candy repeatedly. This mise en scene and use of cinematic techniques within the show, is used to portray how easy it is for the media to misrepresent the truth through film editing and other technological ... • 8. Smoke Signals Film Techniques Throughout the movie Smoke Signals, there are many themes that are portrayed as the story progresses. Two central ideals that we see in the movie are the journey to forgiveness and defining fatherhood. In the beginning of the film, we witness Arnold (Victor s father) saving Thomas from a burning house, but when thanked by Thomas grandmother he says I didn t mean to. his response becomes self explanatory by the end of the film. Unfortunately, Thomas parents do not escape the house fire and succumb to the flames. Although Thomas parents passed away, he held some sort of father figure through Arnold and motherly figure through his grandmother who solely raised him. Victor had his father as a young boy, but lost his father through abandonment.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Victor, built a hatred for his father because he left him and his motherbroken. Arnold was portrayed as a stereotypical drunk, dead beat dad that left his family to fend for themselves. Throughout the movie there are many flashbacks that show a lot of foreshadowing leading to Arnold s absence. In one of the flashbacks, Arnold is in the truck with Victor and says to him during a drunken rant ...one day I ll make myself disappear. However, there are a handful of precious memories that Victor held with his father. I believe that this is what led Victor on his journey to find the truth as to why his father left him and his mother. The moment that Victor finds out the truth about the house fire many years ago, his hatred begins to whither and he sees his father in a new yet complicated light. Learning the truth eventually frees him from his rage towards his father and irritation towards Thomas; he may feel as though Thomas is a victim of his father s selfish actions. • 9. Analysis Of Ramesh Sippy s Sholay When it comes to Indian popular culture, there is no film more ingrained in the public consciousness than Ramesh Sippy s iconic thriller Sholay (1975). The film revolves around two criminals, Jai and Veeru (Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra), hired by a retired police officer (Sanjeev Kumar) to exact revenge on a ruthless bandit, Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan), responsible for murdering his family. The film blends several genres such as the Western, Comedy and Musical in its use of mis en scene, cinematography and editing. Sholay can also be deconstructed as a relevant commentary on the political unrest and instability of India in the 1970s, a period marked by regional tensions, war and internal fragility of a nation. The 1970s in India was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Gandhi s popularity was destined to be short lived as many parts of the country soon burst into protest over increasing prices and inflation coupled with frustration over inefficient bureaucracy and red tapeism. These protests were most animated in states such as Gujarat and Bihar, where students marched on the streets and united around political activist, Jayaprakash Narayan. When in 1975, a judge in the Allahabad high court ruled that Gandhi s 1972 electoral victory was void due to governmental interference in campaigning, the opposition demanded Gandhi s resignation. The ensuing strikes across the country including those of public services such as railways coupled with the opposition s relentless demands of resignation led Gandhi to declare a state of emergency in 1975 due to a state of internal threat. This decision effectively censored the free press and jailed opposition leaders, marking the start of a dark period in Indian History. These were the culminating political and social conditions in which Sholay was released in 1975. The film encapsulates the instability of India in the 70s through its storyline, mis en scene and editing amongst other elements. The most prominent influence that is visibly noticeable in Sholay is that of the Western genre. The film draws influence from filmmakers such as Sergio Leone, especially his work in The Good, The ... • 11. Open Availability In Nursing Home We live in a day and age where most Canadians do not concern themselves with the odds of them being placed in a long term care facility due to the presence of our health care system, however, a greater number of individuals should be more cogitative about the possibility of needing to be put in a home and that not being an immediate option. According to the Ontario Long Term Care Association (2015) over 40% of the long term care homes in Ontario are small, with 96 or fewer beds. With the aging of the baby boomers within the next couple of years, 96 beds are simply not enough. The hardship of leaving the comfort of one s home is stressful enough, without having to worry whether or not there will be open availability in the local nursing home. This report examines ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are two simple solutions to this problem: open more long term care facilities and have them subsidized or offer optimal home care services. No person should be without care, especially when they need it the most, just as no person should be forced to stay at home in unsafe circumstances or be stuck in a hospital due to there being no rooms available at a nearby long term care centre. There are few individuals who choose not to go into a long term care facility, however there are also many people who don t have the option to enter a home due to absence of facilities. As a result of lack of long term care amenities, waitlists have skyrocketed. With respect to the long term care facility called Riverview Gardens, located in Chatham, Ontario, 9 out of 10 people wait 437 days for basic accommodations (Community Care Access Centre, 2016). The worst part is that most of the people who are on the waitlist are elderly, meaning that it could be dangerous if they are forced to stay home while they wait for a placement. • 12. ##ethical Analysis Of Bradley Strawser s Moral Predators... In Bradley Strawser s Moral Predators, Strawser argues that we are obligated to employ uninhabited aerial vehicles (UAVs) weapon systems if it can be shown that their use does not significantly reduce a warfighter s operational capability. By their very nature UAVs evoke many ethical questions most of which are addressed by Strawser, who stresses there is no downside to UAVs. I would argue there are certainly some downsides to this technology. The aim of this paper is to provide legitimate moral objections to using drones in warfare. The first issue concerning UAVs deals with the inability for an opponent to surrender under the attack of a UAV strike. Additionally, I will discuss the possible increased inclination to start war... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Collateral damage is a immoral justification for downplaying the killing of innocent people those of which UAVs still contribute to. That said, there is data to show that UAVs cause less collateral damage than traditional warfare technologies, but they may, at the same time, make war seem similar to a computer game, risk free and easy to pull the trigger. This leads me to consider the possibility that there is a lower threshold for their use and increased inclination for UAVs to proliferate and, perhaps, provoke a state of war. For obvious reasons (UAV pilots operating from hundreds or thousands of miles away), there s less risk of injury and death to our soldiers lives, which may have an affect on the impetus to start a war. It is important to analyze the historical implications of UAVs. Would the United states have entered war with Persian Gulf, Kosovo or Iraq if there was potential for retaliation on U.S soil. Would the the United States have entered those wars, if those countries could choose to counter attack with UAVs? A question of proportionate response also creates reasons to believe there are moral downsides to count against using drones. The increase of asymmetric warfare techniques by one side of the conflict leads to the rise of a response in asymmetric warfare by the other side. It is not difficult to see similarities between drones and suicide bombers: one is high tech and the other low tech, neither gives the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The way that Rome accomplished this was by defeating the peoples that ruled the land they wanted and incorporating them into their ever expanding empire. The reason the Romans were so successful at doing this is because of their technological advances, logistical capabilities, and ability to implement strategy efficiently and safely. These when put together allow an army during the Middle ages to deploy consistently with high moral and low mortality. The bolt action rifle has been used for hunting, protection, and has proved to be a reliable weapon for military use in the defense of our country. The United States purchased 900 bolt action rifles in 1862 which were used in the American Civil War at the battle of Antietam. These rifles were single shot, paper cartridges that proved to be much faster in reloading than the muzzle loading riflepreviously used by American troops. Since then, America has used these rifles in nearly every war fought. It wasn t until 1874 when the French began bolt action rifle production of their own, that metal cartridges were invented and... The firing pin is the needle looking rod that strikes the butt of the shell and ignites the primer compound. This action ejects the previous shell and the chamber is now empty and ready to receive the next shell. If the rifle is a single shot bolt action, now is when a new cartridge will need to be manually inserted into the open chamber of the rifle. Then the bolt is pushed all the way forward which loads the new shell into the chamber. If the rifle is an internal or an external magazine fed rifle, the bolt will strip the next round from the magazine and push it forward until it is locked into the firing chamber. Now, push the bolt all the way down. This action locks the shell in the chamber with what are called locking lugs attached to the rotating receiver. Different countries have different systems to organize organ donation. These systems are known as either opt out or opt in . The United States is currently under an opt in system which basically means that we assume that everyone does not wish to become an organ donor, unless is it made clear in their lifetime. An opt out system is one in which we assume that everyone wishes to become an organ donor after death, otherwise made explicitly known during lifetime. It is proposed that the solution to the organ shortage crisis in the United states is to adopt the opt out system. This system makes more sense because if a person is so passionate about not being a donor, they will voice that while they are living. Our current system does not encourage people to actually take the time to make a decision about being an organ donor or not. Instead, the system we currently have allows people to stay uninformed about decisions that could in the end give someone else a shot at living their life. An article written in the European Journal of Health Law talks about the bill of 2009 that allows presumed consent for organ donation in European countries. Lisa Cherkassky, Lecturer in Law, includes specifics details written in the bill such as, if a person during their lifetime has not registered to an objection to his body that after death, it will be presumed that he [has] consented to such a donation. In the US, we currently must register to donate, with a system like this, it would be the opposite (registering to not donate). Arguably, humanity is re designing the planet Earth every hour of every day, either deliberately by rational planning or inadvertently with billions of unconsidered actions, and in the main ruining it. We all carry a responsibility for the destruction and therefore we all need to mend our ways, but of course some groups within society have more power than others to take remedial action: engineers, architects, planners and designers for instance. If they became pro active rather than re active, they could play a crucial role: their skills, imagination and ingenuity could help preserve the planet for future generations. In terms of transportation, green design ranged from changes in the engines of conventional cars to take unleaded petrol and to reduce fuel consumption, to Anthony Howard s Africar (a cheap, wooden vehicle designed for Africa). Volvo in Sweden renewed its long term commitment to making environmentally friendly cars and buses, while Renault in France designed an electric car. Modifying existing vehicles is a step in the right direction but it does nothing to limit the ever growing number of cars on the roads. If population growth has to be limited, so does the growth in cars. Many greens would prefer to walk and cycle or to use public transport. Once the will exists to improve and expand the latter, many more opportunities for the green transport designer will occur. Fashion also witnessed changes during the 1980s. The authors not only provided a longitudinal data that demonstrated safety of SCC DBS for patients with MDD and BP, but also introduced DBS as an antidepressant intervention for patients with BP. However, further changes and clarifications are needed for efficacy measurements and parameter adjustments for changing the currents of stimulation and for reporting results. While this study has potentially profound clinical implications, the authors should resubmit the study with changes before being accepted in the publication. The inclusion and exclusion criteria for the screening and preoperative evaluation phase were well defined as shown in Fig. 1. The authors defined TRD patients as patients who were not adequately responding at least four antidepressant interventions and scoring at least three on the Antidepressant Treatment History Form (Sackeim, 2001). This guideline to define TRD is comparable to other controlled trials in similar experiments (i.e. DBS for patients with TRD) (Fava, 2003). Also, the authors accounted for potential confounding variables by excluding all patients who showed contraindications for DBS surgery and its active stimulation. The authors had a nice balance of patients between MDD (n =10) and BP (n=7) prepared for SCC DBS surgery. Introduction In the case of a builder carrying out work in New South Wales under a construction contract for a commercial office space, legal principles would need to be understood and followed by the builder to ensure that both the building of and the finished project fits the imposed legal requirements. In New South Wales, the NSW Commercial Building Code specifies the criteria that all contemporary commercial buildings and developments must comply with. For a project the size of the $20,000,000 commercial office space development there would undoubtedly be a series of legal principles that must be complied with. A Contractual agreement and details such as the construction period, insurance specifics, allowances, defects liability period, date of commencement and practical completion, payment and much more must be comprehended by all parties (particularly the builder) to ensure the project is built to the correct standard and within the designated time specifications. The facts Latent defects are discovered after the $20,000,000 commercial office space construction project is completed by the builder. The plaintiff holds that the latent defects in the office space are a result of defective building works and thus claims that there has been a breach of contract as the builder acted negligently as they had a duty to take reasonable care in the construction of the offices. Gender based stereotyping in the workforce informs societal perceptions and assumptions of what is accepted as a typical male or female roles within the workplace. Experts still disagree as to which variables inform each stereotype. One expert, Morley Gunderson suggests that the difference in preference towards the chosen occupation is the key indicator, not gender profiling (M. Baker, M. Drolet 2010). Another opinion is that women are more likely to pursue careers within health and education sectors, whereas men are more inclined to pursue engineering and other related technological fields (J. Cool, 2010). This shows a strong sense of gender bias, and harsh stereotyping of the gender roles in society. Both men and women have a place within technological, and educational fields of work. Gender based stereotyping is also present in the expectations of women outside of the workforce. Employers and executives may anticipate a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although tapioca flour has no gluten in it, it is often combined with a different type of flour. In this experiment it is combined with rice flour. Rice flour is also gluten free, so it is combined with baking soda and baking powder. The baking soda and baking powder are the binding agents in this recipe. If there is no binding agent in a gluten free bread then the bread will not be elastic. The reason tapioca flour rises the most is mainly because of the baking powder. Another binding agent in this recipe are the eggs. Since eggs have protein in them it will help to make the bread elastic. If you use to much baking powder then the bread will break. On the other hand if you do not use enough baking powder the bread will not rise that much at all.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All purpose flour has an average amount of gluten in it. • 31. Sildenafil Citrate Research Paper What is sildenafil citrate? Sildenafil citrate is one of the drugs of choice for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. It is a selective inhibitor of cGMP PDE5 or the cyclic guanosine monophosphate specific phosphodiesterase type 5. Since erectile dysfunction or impotence is estimated to affect more than 140 million men around the world, many tend to resort to medications such as this drug. More than half of these affected men have physical or medical issues that lead to their impotence such as diabetes, and urological, neurological and circulatory conditions. How does the drug work? Penile erection is caused by an engorgement of the penis which occurs when there is an increase in the delivery of blood by the blood vessels, while decreasing the removal of blood. During normal sexual activity, nitric oxide is released from the penis. This substance will activate guanylate cyclase which will in turn produce cGMP. cGMP is the primary reason for penile erection as it affects the amount of blood being delivered and removed from the penis by the blood vessels.... Film Analysis Of Robert Altman s Gosford Park Set in the 1930s, near the end of the era of domestic service in the U.K, Robert Altman s Gosford Park through its film design and its usage of heritages spaces and period details examines the separate worlds upstairs and downstairs of rich society people and their servants at a country mansion. Sir William McCordle is a wealthy industrialist turned aristocrat, with a magnificent country state named Gosford Park in the English countryside, complete with staff. It is a world where everything runs in order both amongst the bejeweled guests lunching and dining at their considerable leisure and in the attic bedrooms and stark work stations where the servant s labor for the comfort of their employers. Whether they like it or not, everyone knows their place. But all is not as it seems. Part comedy of manners and part mystery, the film is a moving portrait of events that bridge generations, class, sex, tragic personal history and culminate in a murder. Ultimately revealing the intricate relations of the above and below stairs worlds with great clarity, Gosford Park illuminates a society and way of life quickly coming to an end as it is a time when World War II has not yet started, but the status quo has begun to shift away from the strict social structure so integral to England for hundreds of years. There are various elements in the movie which portray Britishness and establish class differences. In setting the film at a historic country house, the film does ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Prince, written by NiccolГІ Machiavelli, is a treatise on how to take and hold on to political power. Both Hamlet and The Prince contain the concept of fortune as a common theme throughout each work. Fortune is talked about in similar ways in both, including how fortune is a woman, how much control fortune has over people, and how fortune is like water. (Machiavelli 136 137) Machiavelli is using sex as a metaphor to say that to subdue Fortune, one must be impulsive and assert their dominance over her. Hamlet believes he leaves too much up to fortune because he thinks too much without taking enough action. • 39. Virginity in 17th and 18th Century Poetry Essay examples Virginity in 17th and 18th Century Poetry Benjamin Franklin once said that there were only two inevitable things in life: death and taxes. He got it half right. They did, in fact, die with pretty regular certainty. However, what was inevitable was sex. Without it, there wouldn t be any new people to die and poor Ben Franklin would have been completely wrong. The only hindrance to this certainty was (and remains) virgins. The realm of the chaste has been explored in poetry throughout time, but never was the subject as thoroughly probed as in the 17th and 18th century. Phillips says A virgin s state is crowned with much content; / It s always happy as it s innocent. In addition to innocence, Phillips points out that there are no grouchy husbands, no screaming children and nothing else to distract you from your service to God. In fact, wistful women wishing they d kept their virginity and wedding vows to themselves wrote many poems in this era. It is a telling social commentary that so many married women would wish themselves back to live a life of chaste penitence than to enter into so called wedded bliss. The most common theme in virginity poems is that of men trying to get women to change their minds and go to bed with them. Many poets tried to use persuasion on their objects of desire. In Robert Herrick s To the Virgins to Make Much of Time, the well known first line Gather ye rosebuds while ye may appears. The United States declared war on the British on June 18, 1812, for many reasons. To some, the causes of the war were not grave enough for a real war to erupt. However, there are three main motives that clearly made it valid to declare war. The British s actions of impressment, efforts to restrict the United State s trade, and the conquest for land in Canada and Florida were major contributors of the war of 1812being considered justified for America. Before the war started, the British navy had a huge lack of sailors due to circumstances of low pay or low skill level ( The Mariners Museum: Birth of the United StatesNavy. ). Obviously, the British were not a fan of their scarcity of men. Britain decided to start impressing naval officers, meaning that they would force any British sailor they could find to serve for the the royal navy( Lambert, Andrew). British seamen started to abandon the British ships they worked on to work for American merchants who would pay them more. This led the Royal Navy to the impressment of American soldiers as well. It was hypothesised that the longest straight chained alcohol would produce the highest level of enthalpy. Resulting in weaker van de waals forces betwixt the branched molecules. Thus allowing, a weaker force necessary to break the molecule apart for combustion (Salters advanced chemistry, 2000). At the start of the war, Jewish families had to wear white arm bands with a blue Star of David and were only allowed a small amount of money. Families were sent off to concentration camps in packed railroad cars and the families who remained in Warsaw starved to death. The only reason why the main character, Wladyslaw Szpilman, was able to survive was through the people who helped give him food, shelter and basic necessities. The kindness of others helped Wladyslaw survive through the wartimes. Kindness is defined as, an individual that possesses a sympathetic or helpful nature. One of the main themes within The Pianist is that kindness can be found in the most unexpected places, even in Nazi Germany. Wladyslaw Szpilman found help from countless people, even from Germans who were not Jewish. Irena Sendler was a social worker who lived in Warsaw. She was a part of the Polish Underground and a Holocaust resistance. It is estimated that she saved more than 2,000 Jewish children from the Ghetto. Living Like Weasels By Annie Dillard In the essay that I chose Living like Weasels the author, Annie Dillard wrote about her encounter after seeing a wild weasel for the first time in her life. The weasel was ten inches long, thin as a curve, a muscled ribbon, brown as fruitwood, soft furred, and alert. His face was fierce, small, pointed as Lizard s, and with two black eyes. Her idea is that humans can benefit from living as wild and as free as a weasel. Dillard uses comparisons between the life of a wild weasel and the life of humans while exploring the theme of the quest for identity/coming of age. This essay begins with the author presenting a description of weasels, giving the audience heaps of details about the habits of the weasel, a physical description, where it lives, its environment, and how it acts. She also tells us how Ernest Thompson shot an eagle from the sky and found the skull of a weasel clinging to its throat symbolizing how the weasel died protecting its life. Dillard then moves on to elaborate on her experience where she is sitting on a tree trunk near Hollins Pond, a remarkable piece of shallowness (146), then weasel appears from a wild rose bush and presents itself in front of her. She looks it in the eyes as it looks back, then the weasel disappeared following its instincts. After observing the weasel, she emphasizes her thoughts on how humans should live more like them. United States was in the middle of a civil war between The Union and The Confederacy. Abraham Lincoln was more concerned about preserving the union of United States than the abolition of the slaves. So he decided to publish The Proclamation like a military strategy. The proclamation stated that all the people who were slaves becomes free immediately. Because it was a proclamation of the president Abraham Lincoln, it was only for the states that were part of The Confederacy and those who were in rebellion against United States. • 52. Mountain Man Essay Currently, because the market of traditional beer is decreasing with an annual rate of 4%, whereas the market of light beer is increasing, Mountain Man is thinking to extend its product line to light bear. However, we don t know if it is a good idea because of the difficulty transferring the brand equity and the uncertainty of cannibalization and dilution. I suggest we should still extend the brand and launch Mountain Man light in following process. First of all, Mountain Man light should target on female and younger generation. According to the profile of beer drinkers, females account for 42% of light beer drinkers and those who are younger than 35 years old account for 29%, which means the total proportion of them is as high as 58.8%. Thus, Mountain Man light should choose them as our target. Second, we focus its positioning on Pure and Refresh , making youngers believe Mountain Man light is the best beer for ... Third, set the price of Mountain Man light 1.5 times expensive than Mountain Man Lager because younger people are willing to pay twice of the price than those over 35 and it also stand for high quality and complex manufacturing procedure. Furthermore, even if the price of the light beer is more expensive than lager, it s not expensive at all, compared to those famous companies. According to the market share (barrels) and total sales of beer, Mountain Man supposed to earn $191 million dollars, but their actual sales is much lower than it, which means Mountain Man Lager is cheaper than the average price (Appendix2). Next, choose restaurants and bars as the main selling channel of Mountain Man light, and also sell it in off premise locations. The reason why we decide it is because people tend to drink light beer with meal and because selling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Analysis Report On Management Accounting System A management accounting system collects accounting information and converts the information to an analysis report in order to help managers make correct decisions and let stakeholders fully understand how the company runs. In another word, the main purpose of the management accounting system is assessing the company s performance with the help of different measurements. Thus, managementaccounting system reform should be closely linked to performance measurement. The most traditional way to measure company s performance is comparing the historical financial figures. However, such measure has been challenged by both academics and practitioners as the dysfunction consequences in assessing rewards for managers and issues in capturing customer quality have been recognized. Under this competitive environment, one traditional performance measurement may not be good enough to fit all the businesses. In order to help businesses measure their performance accurately, the innovations and changes may take place when designing and adopting the management accounting system. • 54. Getting Into Character Essay example Our first subject of study, Stella Adler, was one of the students of Stanislavskiz and was the only American actress to study under him. Although, I didn t identify with all of Stella Adler s technique s as a whole as it doesn t seem to take as in depth of an approach as some of the other acting methods, some of her techniques such as acting is doing I found very helpful. When Adler says acting is doing she is referring to how every actormust have a purpose for an action. I found this to be important for me to remember as often I found myself in my scenes doing way more than I needed to. I always had to remind myself of what Meisner said, less is more! Also, Stella Adlers approach to training the imagination so that you saw in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I am at my best when someone pushes me out of my shell and that is why I enjoy a brutal honesty between my acting partner and myself. For my own acting method I identify most with the teachings of Sanford Meiser. His process in finding realism within imaginary circumstances is one that is unparalleled. His method is effective for me as I do not like technicality while acting, I prefer to rely purely on emotions. I believe actors should be attempting to put themselves within the shell of the person they portray. So much so that what they do as that character, becomes as real as if they themselves were the character. I disagree strongly with Strasberg s acting method in that actors can just tap in to past emotions in order to play their character. I do not believe if an actor has to play an emotional scene they need to remember when a relative died, or something else extremely emotional happened I their life. Not only do I believe its cruel to the actor, I believe it is cheating in that the actor cannot possible be in character if their mind is elsewhere. Stella Adler said about the Strasberg method that Drawing on emotions I experienced, for example, when my mother died to create a role, is sick and schizophrenic. If that is acting, I don t want to do it. Some of what Strasberg says however I do agree with. Besides Strasberg s affective memory idea, I agree with everything else he has to say about Method acting. I like the idea of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many wonder why the spinal cord is not able to heal itself like the other parts of the body such as how the skin injured on a leg can regenerate and heal itself or how muscle can repairs itself is it gets strained. But the spinal cord is different. That is because some of the cells in the central nervous system are so complex and specialized that they do not have the ability to regenerate. In come a stem cell which is an immature cell that can become a different cell, or even transform into one of many different cells. Most stem cells can also renew or divide themselves indefinitely. These two characteristics are what present a new pathway to repairing damage to the human body caused by trauma, degeneration and disease. Stem cells keep on generating in the body and take place of the cells which have died such as in a spinal cord injury. The process of using stem cells for spinal cord injury is controversial for some and involves taking one s own bone marrow or a donated human umbilical cord. A licensed anesthesiologist harvests bone marrow from both hips under light general anesthesia in a hospital operating room, the procedure takes about one and half to two hours. The bone marrow derived stem cells have to pass rigorous testing for quality and to ensure there is not bacterial contamination before they are administered to the patient. In the same fashion ...
