Presentation of Jan Beranek in Greenpeace Nuclear Waste Seminar, Helsinki 2009greenpeacenordic
Jan Beranek is a Nuclear Campaigner at Greenpeace International.
The use of nuclear power has during the last few decades created a nuclear waste problem that no one is in control of. Hundreds of thousands of tons of world’s most dangerous waste have been stored next to nuclear reactors. The proposed new nuclear reactors would make Finland the world’s largest producer of nuclear waste per capita and a dangerous example to the rest of the world.
Comparison of Nuclear Energy of Bangladesh with India & PakistanIOSR Journals
This document compares the nuclear energy of Bangladesh to India and Pakistan. It finds that Bangladesh currently has no nuclear power generation capacity, while India has 19 nuclear reactors providing 4560 MW of capacity and Pakistan has 3 nuclear power plants providing around 3.6% of its electricity. The document also notes that Bangladesh faces significant electricity shortages and has considered building nuclear power plants since 1961 to help meet its growing energy demands into the future.
Nuclear energy works by using nuclear reactions to generate heat from uranium-235, with this heat then used to power steam turbines and produce electricity. Specifically, a neutron is absorbed by a uranium-235 nucleus, causing it to split into lighter elements and release more neutrons and a small amount of energy, with this energy capture process repeating to produce a sustained nuclear reaction. This document provides a brief introduction to how nuclear energy works at the most basic level by using nuclear fission to generate heat from uranium.
This document provides an introduction to solar and wind energy sources. It discusses how solar panels convert sunlight into electricity via photovoltaic cells and concentrated solar power. The history of solar cell technology is reviewed from 1839 to the present. Wind turbines capture kinetic energy from wind to generate electricity by rotating blades connected to a generator. India has significant potential for both solar and wind power, with over 32 GW of installed wind capacity and favorable conditions for further development.
This document discusses nuclear energy in Pakistan. It provides information on how nuclear energy works through atomic fission and how nuclear power plants produce energy similarly to fossil fuel plants by using heat to create steam to power turbines. The document also lists the existing nuclear power plants in Pakistan as Chasma Nuclear Power Plant and Karachi Nuclear Power Plant, and discusses an expert urging Pakistan to develop its peaceful nuclear program and export nuclear technology and expertise.
This document summarizes an assignment on power generation status and potential for nuclear power in Bangladesh. It outlines that installed power capacity and maximum generation have increased annually but generation has increased at a lower rate, leading to increased load shedding. Demand for electricity is projected to rise substantially by 2015. It advocates for nuclear power as a stable, large-scale solution that produces little greenhouse gases and meets future demand, highlighting Bangladesh's plans to build its first nuclear plant. Safety and environmental advantages of modern nuclear plants are also noted.

Wind energy is becoming more important as fossil fuels are depleted. It is one of the most cost-effective renewable energy sources. A wind turbine uses blades, gears, and a generator to capture wind energy and convert it into electricity. The more powerful the wind, the more electricity is produced.
Nuclear energy is released through fission or radioactive decay of atomic nuclei. A nuclear power plant uses heat from a nuclear fission core to convert water to steam, which powers turbines to generate electricity. There are different types of nuclear reactors, including boiling water reactors, pressurized water reactors, and liquid-metal fast breeder reactors. Nuclear energy has advantages like producing large amounts of clean energy without air pollution but also disadvantages like producing radioactive waste and potential radiation risks from accidents.
Nuclear fusion is a reaction that joins two light nuclei to form a heavier one. While it can power hydrogen bombs, using nuclear fusion for electricity production remains experimental due to technical and economic challenges. A few hypothetical fusion reactors have been proposed that could function like current nuclear power plants that use fission.

Executive Summary
A cutting edge mechanical society like Japan makes generous utilization of vitality to improve our lives and more pleasant. While we can do much to monitor vitality, the truth of the matter is that Australia has expanded its electrical vitality utilization by more than 2% for every year since September 18 1985. Our electrical vitality needs are figuring to increment by the aggregate of more than 40% by 2020. Taking care of this demand obliges building numerous huge force plants throughout the following 15 years. In the event that we don't do this and our vital interest develops not surprisingly, we will be confronted with substantial scale power outages, forexample, what happened in the late eighteenth century. The States of Victoria and South Australia had a 8212 over watt power save shortage amid the late spring period in 2004. However Australia as of now delivers more Greenhouse Gas per Capita than each other ward nations. On the off chance that we construct new Coallet go plants, which was what was done to illuminate the emergency in NSW in the 1990's, we will exacerbate things.
It is very conceivable to use Nuclear Power, which emanates no green house gasses, to give thegreater part of a whole nation's requirement for power. The french atomic force system is the model of this. In Japan, Nuclear Power gives 77% of the country's requirement for power (the rest of Hydroelectricity). France creates an overflow of power which it fares to neighboring nations at a benefit. It does this while costing the destroying of its reactors and discarding its waste items in the cost of the force it produces

The KashiwazakiKariwa Nuclear Power Plant is an expansive, advanced (lodging the world's first ABWR) atomic force plant on a 4.2squarekilometer (1,038 sections of land incorporating land in the towns of Kashiwazaki and Kariwa in Niigata Prefecture, Japan on the bank of the Sea of Japan, from where it gets cool water. The plant is claimed and worked with Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO).It was the biggest atomic creating station on the planet by net electrical force rating. It was roughly 19 km (12 mi) from the epicenter of the second most grounded tremor to ever happen .
This document discusses nuclear energy and its potential future in Bangladesh. It outlines the objectives to learn about nuclear energy sources and production. Currently there are 440 nuclear power reactors operating worldwide, providing about 5% of global energy. The document examines why nuclear should be an option for Bangladesh due to its high energy density. Bangladesh plans to build two 1000MW Russian reactors by 2018 at Rooppur to address energy demands and reduce reliance on natural gas. However, there are concerns about whether Bangladesh has sufficient national capabilities and infrastructure for nuclear safety, management, funding and emergency response. The document concludes that with proper risk mitigation, nuclear could power Bangladesh's development.
India's Millennium Development Goals are linked to increasing access to electricity. The document discusses India's energy needs and options to meet projected electricity demand over the coming decades. Coal will remain important but India will need to increase its use of nuclear, hydro, solar and wind power to achieve its development targets in a sustainable manner. Nuclear power is presented as a viable clean energy option given India's reserves of uranium and thorium. Pressurized heavy water reactors are described as the current focus of India's nuclear program.
The document discusses nuclear power and nuclear reactors. It provides information on the types of nuclear reactors used worldwide including pressurized water reactors (PWR), boiling water reactors (BWR), and pressurized heavy water reactors (PHWR). It also discusses nuclear power plants in various countries like the US, France, Japan, South Korea, and provides statistics on nuclear power reactors operating and under construction worldwide.
Nuclear energy is generated through nuclear fission or fusion reactions. In India, nuclear power provides about 3% of electricity and is expected to rapidly expand. There are currently 21 reactors providing 5,780 MW of power, with several new plants under construction. Issues include the challenge of long-term storage and disposal of radioactive nuclear waste, though nuclear energy has advantages of low carbon emissions. India's nuclear program is overseen by several government organizations and aims to increase nuclear power generation to 64,000 MW by 2032.
This document summarizes geothermal development activities in Turkey. It notes that Turkey currently has 242 MWe of geothermal electricity production capacity and over 2,700 MWt of direct geothermal heat use. The document outlines Turkey's targets to reach 750 MWe of geothermal electricity production and expand direct heat use by 2018. It also estimates Turkey's theoretical geothermal potential at 4,500 MWe for electricity and 60,000 MWt for direct heat use. The significant progress in geothermal development in Turkey is attributed to renewable energy incentives and regulations introduced since 2005.
The document discusses how nuclear power plants generate electricity through nuclear fission. It explains that nuclear power plants heat water into steam using nuclear fuel rods, which then turns turbines that generate electricity by spinning magnets near copper wires. While nuclear energy offers a clean alternative to fossil fuels, it also poses risks of accidents like those at Chernobyl and Fukushima, where damage to reactor cores caused radiation leaks. The document provides context on worldwide use of nuclear power as of 2013.
Power generation involves converting other forms of energy into electricity. Michael Faraday discovered the basic principles of electricity generation in the 1820s through electromagnetic induction. Common methods of power generation include static electricity, electromagnetic induction, electrochemistry, and nuclear transformation. Bangladesh's power sector is overseen by various government organizations and generates around 7,000 MW currently to meet the peak demand of 6,000 MW, resulting in periodic load shedding. Various challenges include ensuring sufficient fuel supply and financing further public and private generation projects to close the demand-supply gap.

Thermal Stability Investigation and Improvement: A Gateway to High Efficiency...IRJET Journal
This document summarizes research into improving the thermal stability and power conversion efficiency of organometal trihalide perovskite solar cells. The researchers used modeling software to simulate cell performance at different temperatures. They achieved a promising power conversion efficiency of 29.31% for their cell model. The simulations showed that higher temperatures negatively impact carrier concentration, band gaps, and mobilities, reducing efficiency. Unlike typical models that peak at 300K, this model's efficiency increased above 300K, peaking at 29.34% at 325K and remaining high up to 355K. This suggests improved thermal stability. The findings provide a useful reference for fabricating thermally stable, high-efficiency perovskite solar cells.

[OReilly Superstream] Occupy the Space: A grassroots guide to engineering (an...Jason Yip
The typical problem in product engineering is not bad strategy, so much as “no strategy”. This leads to confusion, lack of motivation, and incoherent action. The next time you look for a strategy and find an empty space, instead of waiting for it to be filled, I will show you how to fill it in yourself. If you’re wrong, it forces a correction. If you’re right, it helps create focus. I’ll share how I’ve approached this in the past, both what works and lessons for what didn’t work so well.
How information systems are built or acquired puts information, which is what they should be about, in a secondary place. Our language adapted accordingly, and we no longer talk about information systems but applications. Applications evolved in a way to break data into diverse fragments, tightly coupled with applications and expensive to integrate. The result is technical debt, which is re-paid by taking even bigger "loans", resulting in an ever-increasing technical debt. Software engineering and procurement practices work in sync with market forces to maintain this trend. This talk demonstrates how natural this situation is. The question is: can something be done to reverse the trend?
