2008 to 2013 H&R Block Kansas City, MO
Business Analyst
During my time in the Retail Tax Information Technology group I was given the
opportunity to work with many different business partners within H&R Block. My primary
role was to work closely with business leaders to define the scope, business case and
requirements for new projects. Year over year H&R Block provides enhancements to
existing applications as well as developing new functionality to better serve our tax
client base. Through the use of tools such as UML and MS Access I was able to
provide the analysis needed to create solutions to fit the business need. My role
required that I work in a multi-team environment. My tasks also included development
of use cases and field test scenarios. I was required to provide oversight of our QA
teams during all phases of testing through to deployment. On our team I was the
subject matter expert for our Electronic Content Management systems as well as
banking infrastructure. This position allowed me to hone my skills as an analyst by
dissecting the problem from the root and using a global view to provide the solution so
that production functionality was designed to scale for the future with the client view in
mind. The Retail IT team is accountable for the development and deployment of the
tools used in the field offices that account for over sixty percent of the company
revenue annually. Our team managed the infrastructure for communications with
multiple banks as well as sixteen different H&R Block tax related applications and our
host system in Columbus Ohio. I enjoyed the opportunity that these challenges brought
and the experience as a Business Analyst.
