Egg Came Before Chicken Research Paper
What came first the chicken or the egg? This has been a debated question for some time now.
Some say the chicken came first, some say the egg came first, and others have no idea. In our
opinion, the egg came before the chicken no matter how you look at it. Rather, you are
religious, or you believe in science, the egg came before the chicken. In this research paper Mike
and I will be explaining how we think the egg came before the chicken from a religious point of
view and a scientific point of view. First, we will be explaining how the egg came before the
chicken from a religious point of view. Genesis 1:24 said And God said, Let the earth bring forth
the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind:
and it was so. This bible quote says how God created land animals, but it does not say they
magically appeared on earth. One way you can look at it is God created an egg and the egg hatch,
and there is your chicken. It is also a possibility that he created a proto chicken egg, or a non
chicken egg that hatched a non chicken,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am a spiritual person, and I believe in God. I also believe in science to a certain extent.I also
believe that he did put some mature animal on earth and allowed them to skip birth, but I do not
think this is the situation for the chicken. I believe God created a non chicken which eventually
gave birth to a chicken egg which hatched a chicken. I know that genetic mutation is possible, so
this is how I believe the chicken was born. Over time, due to genetic mutation a chicken was
hatched from a chicken egg. My explanation is biblical as well as scientific. I inputted
information from both point of views in my explanation because, I am a spiritual guy and I also
agree with science, and I believe that I expressed my answer in both ways the best that I could and
I do not see myself getting persuaded to change my

more firms exhibit characteristics similar to those of non dividend paying firms), Fama and French
nonetheless report that once they control for these characteristics, they still find a significant
decline in the residual propensity to pay dividends. This evidence poses a further challenge to
dividend theories in so far as candidate theories should be able to explain time series changes in
the propensity to pay dividends. We extend this literature by examining cross sectional and time
series evidence on the propensity to pay dividends in several developed financial markets the
United States (U.S.), Canada, the United Kingdom (U.K.), Germany, France, and Japan over the
period 1989 to 2002. Specifically, we examine (i) whether the characteristics of dividend payers
and nonpayers are common across countries; (ii) whether these characteristics have changed over
time; and (iii) whether firms in other countries exhibit a declining propensity to pay dividends in
recent years. In addition, the use of international data allows us to provide further tests of the life
cycle, signaling, clientele, and catering explanations by analyzing the concentration of dividend
payments as well as the association between Baker and Wurgler s (2004a,b) dividend premium and
the propensity to pay dividends in other countries. Our evidence reveals common determinants of
dividends across countries. Like Fama and French (2001), we find

Reaction Paper On Listeria
FOOD QUALITY AND SAFETY ASSURANCE
Listeria is an infection caused by the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. An estimated 1600 people
are diagnosed with listeriosis each year around the world, and about 1/5th of these patients die.(
Listeria (Listeriosis) | Listeria | CDC, n.d.)вЃ
The symptoms of Listeria include fever and diarrhea similar to other food contaminating germs, but
the common nature of those means it is rarely diagnosed.
Invasive Listeria, or when the bacteria has spread beyond the stomach, is especially dangerous to
pregnant women, as it can usually fly under the radar with symptoms analogous to that of flu and
fatigue. It can, however, cause complications with childbirth, leading to stillbirth and miscarriages
in some cases. The other demographic immediately and most at risk are the older people and
people with weakened immunity due to diseases such as HIV or other health issues. ... Show more

While other food borne diseases are quick to show symptoms, it can some times take as much as
10 weeks for the symptoms to show up after being exposed to the bacteria, which makes it far
more difficult to treat. ( Symptoms | Listeria | CDC, n.d.)вЃ
One of the most recent examples of Listeria outbreak in recent times has been that of Dole Salads.
Dole Salads is a major US company with its products being sold under the umbrella of various
brands in major supermarkets such as Lidl, Aldi, Walmart etc.
This outbreak was in many ways precedent setting. According to the Center for Disease Control
in the US, this was one of the first major Listeria outbreak which could be attributed to Leafy
greens. Listeria, in most cases is associated with deli meats, raw dairy products or seafood. The
indication that the bacterium in question is slowly evolving to find new suitors for itself is scary
enough, but not as scary as the actions taken by Dole Salads in this particular

Scotland Act 1998 Essay
The Parliament of the United Kingdom and the Scottish Parliament are the main sources of law in
Scotland. However, the Scotland Act 1998 and the Human Rights Act 1998 are two pieces of
legislation, produced by the Parliament of the United Kingdom, which have had a significant
impact on the development of the law in Scotland. They have made important changes to how law
is made in Scotland and how the Scottish legal system works. This essay aims to examine what it
is these Acts are intended to do, and discuss the impact they have had on the development of law in
Scotland.
Until the Acts of Union 1707, which formed the Parliament of Great Britain (the Parliament of the
United Kingdom from 1801), Scotland had a separate Parliament which was able ... Show more

Some of these matters are; constitutional matters, defence and national security, the fiscal and
monetary system, immigration, energy (including electricity, coal, gas and nuclear energy),
common markets, trade and industry (competition and consumer protection), and employment
legislation. The Act does not contain a similar list of devolved matters, but it is interpreted as
meaning that the Scottish Parliament may legislate on any matter not reserved to the UK
Parliament, including health, education, the legal system, national heritage, housing, local
government, the police and fire services, environmental affairs, and economic development. The
Scotland Act 1998 also provides that the Scottish Government can change the basic rate of income
tax. Previously, before the Scotland Act 1998, all taxation powers were the domain of the UK
Parliament. Therefore, the Scottish Parliament may legislate for any issue which is not a reserved
matter, and as long as the legislation doesn t contravene the criteria set out by Section 29(2). This
has had an impact on the development of the law in Scotland as it means that the Scottish
Parliament may create legislation, however it also means that the Scottish Parliament may only
make legislation for certain

The Economic Risks Of Argentina
Argentina has had a very interesting, unpredictable, and faulty economic system is the last century.
The country has seen everything from economic superiority in South America to the greatest
depression in their current history. Argentina s economy hit rock bottom in the year of 2002, but in
2012 and the beginning of 2014 Argentinas government has put into place more strict and
reasonable economic policy. (The World FactBook, 2014) This country has the resources to become
an emerging economyand join its neighbor, Brazil, in the emerging markets of the world. As of
right now, Argentina s economic growth rate, as measure by GDP (Gross Domestic Product), is
trending upwards, but that could be a deceiving trend for companies looking to do business ,and
invest, in Argentina. (The World FactBook, 2014)
Economic Risks of Doing Business in Argentina
Even though Argentina is showing signs of growth, the risk of investing in and doing business in
the country is still very high. Euler Hermes, an economic research company, rates the risk level of
doing business in Argentina as a D4. (Cazalets, 2014)A D4 rating is the highest risk rating that a
country is able to receive. Since this country has such a high risk rating right now, businesses
should be cautious and require a high return when investing their assets into the country. If a
company is looking for ease of doing business in a South American market, Argentina would be the
last country on their list. (World Bank Group, 2014)

Typecoach Personality Analysis
The personality based assessment by TypeCoach determined my personality type to be ISTP,
Introvert, Sensor, Thinker and Perceiver. A few of the traits of an ISTP consisted of the
individual living in the moment , Down to earth , Logic driven , unflappable , level headed ,
realistic , private , and quiet . The personality assessment described me pretty well with a
percentage of 80. However, there were some aspects of the assessment I did not agree with
wholeheartedly. For Instance, I did not believe that I was a Sensor, but after reading the bio, I
came to the conclusion that I could be. My profile explained my personality in five category types,
the first being Economy of Speech and/ Motion Efficiency. This section described me as a... Show

constraints. I work well under pressure. The fifth is quiet, I am a person of little words and so I

conclusion regarding problem. Overall, I thought the assessment was correct in describing my
personality. At the end of the assessment, I was given my strengths and weaknesses based on my
personality type. My strengths included being able to work well in constantly changing
environments, the ability to put others at ease, ability to observe, being able to figure out simple
solutions to complicated situations, and doing what is on my mind instead of talking about what
I m planning to do. My weaknesses or challenges are the inability to plan long term, dislike for

The Revenge Tragedy Of Hamlet Essay
Issara Butt
Professor Abbott
English 102
November 30, 2016
The Revenge Tragedy of Hamlet Revenge tragedies share some common characteristics of the
play Hamlet which classify them in the group of many great stories such as The Spanish
Tragedy, and King Lear. A vengeful ghost, a play within a play, and the main character who
seeks revenge on an opponent and murdered (KAY). At some point in life many of us feel the
need to seek revenge and never actually act upon it, but what if we did? What would be the
consequences and what would life be like afterwards. The thoughts we have of this makes the
stories of revenge tragedies exciting and intriguing. They are our thoughts written on paper and into
a story making as if what we think is actually happening. In the time of Shakespearean writing,
things would have gone slightly different. The play Hamlet, is a prime example of a revenge
tragedy in its refined state of written speech. Hamlet is a revenge tragedy for many reasons, not
only that but it is the most written, re enacted, and read play of all time (TUMIEL). The multiple
plots of revenge, murders, and ghost appearances makes Hamlet the leading play of revenge
tragedies and most studied currently in academic curriculums. It is believed to be that William
Shakespeare s Hamlet was based off of Thomas Kyd s story, Ur Hamlet (MABILLARD). Although
Ur Hamlet was a rough and uncut version of a revenge tragedy and needed further developing, but
Shakespeare s Hamlet is well refined,

Tobacco Smoke And Its Effects On Health
Tobacco smoke is immensely harmful to one s health. Cigarettes contain about 600 ingredients,
when this burned can generate 7,000 chemicals according to American Lung Association
Many ad campaigns and literatures have been published on the detriments of smoking. Medical
reports further shows that half of all long term smokers will die from a smoking related disease.
This unhealthy practice must be addressed by the government to lessen the medical cost to treat
the ill effects of smoking. Despite all available data available on smoking s ill effects government
has little success in reducing incidence of smoking.
The New Zealand Government is currently addressing a smoking problem in the country. The
government adopted the Smoke free 2025 goal for New Zealand, in March 2011. This response
was based on the recommendations of a landmark Parliamentary inquiry by the Maori Affairs select
committee. The committee s report was clear that the term smoke free was intended to
communicate an aspirational goal and not a commitment to the banning of smoking altogether by
2025. On that basis, the Government agreed with the goal of reducing smoking prevalence and
tobacco availability to minimal levels, thereby making New Zealand essentially a smoke free
nation by 2025 . (Health, 2014). It is important to have consistent information to help to monitor the
progress toward this goal.
The smoke free campaign in New Zealand for a smoke free 2025 is now on its fourth year. This

The Crystal Frontier By Carlos Fuentes
In The Crystal Frontier, Carlos Fuentes presents two of his main characters in much a similar
fashion; in Spoils, we find Dionisio is a world renowned chef and cuisine connoisseur, and also a
fervent critic of American cuisine and culture. Dionisio believes that through his country s
chromosomal imperialism, Mexicowill be able to solidify its sphere of influence in America;
however, when he travels to the United States, he indulges in the same institutions that he ridicules
when he lives in Mexico. Similarly, in Pain we encounter the young and aspiring doctor, Juan
Zamora. Zamora is an ambitious student who travels to the United States to further his education
and learns that successful networking is the way to get ahead in American society. Zamora and
Dionisio are both functions of their environment. When they are living in America, they are
exhibiting an innate interconnectedness with society, and when they live in Mexico quite the
opposite; Zamora and Dionisio display traditional attributes which are stereotypical to that of the
Mexican who lives in solitude. This essay will seek to dissect each character and describe how
each utilizes his own respective Mexican Mask to acquire what he truly desires, and it will
describe how each character s personality fluctuates simply due to where he is geographically
located. Dionisio believes that through Mexico s chromosomal imperialism his country will endure
and even spread its cultural influence in the United States

English Piracy Definition
Very few people today, perhaps those who have stared death in the face, can possibly
comprehend what it would have been like to stand on the gallows at high tide as the executioner
fashioned a noose around the pirate s neck; the last significant act before his final voyage, a short
drop and a quick stop. The English political and legal processes that delivered this defiant captain
and hundreds of others condemned for piracyto their final destination is the focus of this study.
Their contemporaries described them as Robbers, Opposers, and Violators of all Laws, Humane
and Divine. Many viewed themselves as a more selfish reincarnation of Robin Hood, stealing from
wealthy merchants, foreign traders, and abusive captains, and in doing so, threatening ... Show more

After nearly two decades of anti pirate policies in the colonies, colonial officials no longer
deemed it necessary to aggressively convict anyone suspected of piracy out of fear of losing
their charter, as they had prior to 1705. Furthermore, the defining legal question leading to
extreme ambiguity in the prosecution of pirates during the seventeenth century was at what point
did acting outside of one s commission constitute an act of piracy? The conclusion of Great
Britain s hostilities with France and Spain in 1713 rendered this question irrelevant as the new
wave of pirates targeted primarily British, not neutral or allied ships, clearly defining their
aggression as piracy. The change in targets also reduced the prosecution s need to rely on
accomplice testimony, a source of controversy in civil law proceedings, since attacks occurring off
nearby shores provided easier access to victim testimony. Finally, the increase in colonial
newspapers and the dissemination of their publication of piracy trials reports did assist in reducing
procedural inconsistencies, but not in the way previously suggested. Instead, it was the increased
familiarity with civil law and piracy trial procedures within the reports, combined with

the strategies that were taught. Before children would work on assignments alone, the teacher
would model exactly what is expected of them, and keep examples of what was modeled during
the lesson so the students could look back to it if they need to. Read alouds (Cooper, 2015, p.

Sometimes the best way to help children understand a particular piece of text is to read it aloud
to them and discuss it with them (Cooper, 2015, p. 37). Think alouds (Cooper, 2015, p. 30) were
incorporated into this lesson when trying to explain how to use the strategy of character
mapping. Think alouds are a great way to explain to students how to use a specific skill or
strategy so that they can have a better time comprehending it. Semantic maps (Cooper, 2015, p.83)
were used in this lesson for brainstorming ideas from the text to later reference when making
illustrations and creating short responses to the text. This strategy is also a great tool for second
language learners because it helps to narrow down the specific parts in the text to help create more
details of the topic being taught. Cooperative popcorn sequencing(Annenburg Learner, 2015) was

Lehman Case Study Writeup Essay
Organizational Power and Influence
Lehman Case Analysis
Lewis Glucksman who scrapped his way up through Lehman s unprestigious but increasingly
profitable stock and bond trading department, was able to take control of the firm after a bitter
power struggle against its former CEO, Peter Peterson. Glucksman was victorious in the end as he
proved himself to be an indispensible part of Lehman s operations.
During the times leading up to the power struggle, the power dynamic within Lehman was steadily
shifting as trading profits became increasingly more important to Lehman versus traditional
investment banking profits. Thus, Glucksman was able to step into the spot light and Peterson
became more expendable. Peter Peterson s core ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Historically this has always been a formula for disaster. Justifications for the duality were
unconvincing. Peterson was suppose to be the external client facing image of the company
whereas Glucksman was suppose to be the internal executioner of operations. The division of
duties may seem clear but it does not lead to a clear division of power. At the very top of a major
Wall Street company, power must be clearly defined and completely authoritative. If it is not, then
human nature and the nature of an organization will eventually find a way to define power. In this
case, power was defined through duties and internal duties won over external duties.
Also contributing to the outcome of the power struggle were structural features that existed across
the financial industry. The whole industry is governed and motivated by profits generated through
individual contribution irrespective of the firm s net performance. This particular industry structure
results in the classic inter departmental tensions to maximize the individual department s profits. To
a certain extent, Lehman had to comply with rest of the companies by creating the isolated
departmental structure to maintain its top performers. As a result, when a department creates 60
80% of the firm s profit, the power shifts to the department making the most money. Lehman could
have created an alternate compensation strategy to reduce the potential for power struggle between
the departments. For example, rather

The Characteristics Of The African Elephant And Other Animals
Though there are many animals, picking a favorite is not a difficult task. Of the approximate 7.77
million species of animals on Earth, the African Elephant is my favorite. These majestic creatures
are different from any other animal I ve ever known. Not many other animals possess the same
traits or qualities as they do. The endangered mammalintrigues me because of their unique
appearance, their ability to show emotions that other animals cannot, and their high intelligence
level. These gentle giants are a fascinating component of the animal kingdom. To some, the African
Elephantmay seem a little odd, but they have their place in the world. The body of an African
Elephant, though unconventional in comparison to other animals, is perfect for their way of life.
Their large ears give them the ability to hear sounds up to 6.2 miles away, in ideal conditions,
while also serving as a communication device. Their unusual oval shaped feet act as a shock
absorber due to the thick fatty tissue it is made up of. This allows the elephantsto walk silently
because sounds are muffled under their feet. Lastly, the trunk on an elephant is made up of eight
major muscles on either side which gives the elephant the ability to lift up to 700,000 pounds.
They can also be used as a built in snorkel, allowing the mammal travel across larger bodies of
water. Not only do the trunks of elephants help themselves, can be used to help other elephants.
Elephants are one of the few animals who are

Moving to a New Country! Essay
It was a beautiful, sunny day in South Florida. I was six years old, playing by the pool with my

The Extraction Of Factors And Factors
The extraction of factors helps to determine the loading of factors. The factor loading matrix is
shown below and is estimated with two common factors. The first column of the matrix depicts the
first unrotated factor and it can be analysed that the first factor puts maximum and approximately
equal weights to the first, second and fifth variable. And, it puts the minimum weight to the third
variable, electricity. On the other hand, the second unrotated factor places the least weights to the
first and second variable, while putting the highest weight to the third variable.

Selecting an appropriate rotation is difficult task. Hence, it is preferable to perform both rotations
on the factors.
Varimax rotation technique results in high loading of each variable on a few number of factors,
ideally on one factor and hence resulting in better factor analysis. The Figure. 18 shows the biplot
of loadings of varimax rotated factors. It can be seen that in order to bring the loadings close to
zero or one, varimax has rotated the axes. The four variables are close to first factor axis. While,
the third variable lies approximately on second factor axis. Hence, the results of varimax rotation
are satisfactory because most of the variables are near to the factor axis. Figure. 17
Promax rotation can be used incase we are not able to obtain the satisfactory and simple set of
factors with an orthogonal rotation. The promax rotation allows the factor axes to have an
oblique angle between them. The Figure. 19 shown belows depicts the promax rotation. It can be
seen that the variables 1, 2 and 5 are close to the first factor axes and third variable is close to the
second factor axis. The data is better accomodated in an oblique rotation. The two latent factors can
describe variability of buildings and agriculture, which are having high impact on greenhouse gas
emissions.

How Does Shakespeare Use Figurative Language In Sonnet 130
In William Shakespeare s poem Sonnet 130, he describes his lover in a non idealistic way by
describing her features which are the complete opposite of a typical lady in a Petrarchan sonnet. A
sonnet is a 14 line poem with 10 syllable lines and a rhyming scheme that uses iambic pentameter.
Petrarchan sonnets idolize women by creating a dream lady, thus resulting in unrealistic features.
The typical Petrarchan lady has blonde hair, a high forehead, pale skin, and a long neck, and the
physical traits are seen as a reflection of inner beauty. Shakespeare s Sonnet130 uses figurative
language and a creative structure to mock the Petrarchan ideal by portraying true love for what s in

Best 5 Foods to Slim Down
Overview
Americans spent approximately thirty billion a year on slim down products in vain. New
research highly states that, there are more than a thousand foods fighting hunger, boosting
metabolism, and ultimately helping lose weight. Thereby, grocery shopping is the best for a
person to do, to slim down. Small amounts of healthy fats induced food, helps one to feel full for
long and ease absorption of fat soluble vitamins. Overtime, science has proved that eating more
fats cannot make any person fat. However, picking the right amount of fats is one of the unique
tricks for losing weight. Here are the best 5 foods to slim down:

This is because, antioxidants known as catechins are what aids in burning of fats and speeding
metabolism. A recent study conducted in Japan shows that 35 men who drink a bottle of oolong tea
combined with green tea catechins lost more weight than those who didn t. Their metabolic rates
were also found to be higher. Most notably, they exhibited a significant reduction on body mass
index (BMI).
5.Fruits for food
a)Pears
They are recognized for their high fiber content. They are also great in in filling a person up.
They contain pectin fiber, which decreases blood sugar levels thereby aiding one to avoid in
between meals during the day. A Brazilian study found that overweight women who ate three
small pears a day lost more weight as compared to women who took the same diet but ate three oat
cookies a day, instead of fruits.
b)Coconut oil
Coconut oil has more saturated fats than any of the other cooking fats. This kind of fat has little
effect on cholesterol levels. It converts energy easily as compared to other fats. Therefore, it helps
in weight loss. Saturated fats contain lauric acid. This is a unique lipid that battles bacteria and
improves cholesterol levels. In addition, dietary use of coconut oil reduces abdominal obesity.

Since I was in middle school, I have always had the bad habit of biting my nails. In the past, I

I will attempt to use the operant conditioning method to stop biting my nails. I will reward my

will also plan to bring a stress ball to work and class. When I feel the urge to bite my nails, I will
squeeze the stress ball instead. I will replace my nail biting habit with using the stress ball.
During the first week, I earned 5 dollars. I slipped up and started to bite my nails during one of my
classes. I didn t even realize I was doing it for about 5 minutes. I also slipped up another day while
doing homework. I was successful in bringing my stress ball with me to class and work, but did
not find myself using it too often. I think I need to make more of an effort to take it out when I am
at my desk or in class.
After 19 days, I have earned the $14 I need treat myself to a manicure. Although it took me longer
than I had hoped for, I am very proud of myself for completing my first goal. Now, I hope to

How to Make Coffee Using a Keurig
The alluring aroma of freshly brewed java is both tantalizing and calming to the senses, so much
so, that most individuals are unable to fathom a morning or a day without a cup of fragrant, hot
coffee in hand. Coffee is one of life s little indulgences that have become a necessity for some,
who find it increasing difficult to live without, as a result, Keurig created an innovative, and unique
form of preparation. The Keurig machine makes it possible for a single serving of coffee, tea, hot
chocolate, or water without the need to clean the machine in between its use. It eliminates the stale
tasting waste that results from the remnants of old coffee, which no coffee drinker desires, and it
eradicates the need to clean the pot or brew basket, all this in less than a minute!
Although the Keurig is considerably easier to operate than a traditional coffee maker, adherence
to a few specific guidelines, are crucial to yield a cup of coffee. First, plug the unit into a power

Addiction Requires Treatment, Not a Jail Sentence There is no question about it addiction is a
problem. It s talked about constantly on the news, social media, and even in our own homes.
Considering the statistics, that s not surprising; as of 2012, an estimated 22 million people over
the age of 12 are addicted to drugs or alcohol (Friedman 387). The criminalization of the disease of
addiction overloads our legal system, disrupts the lives of many families, and limits the success of
those who could otherwise be productive members of society. The good news is that there are
many different forms of treatment available, so recovery is possible for everyone. We need to...

The system was rocked when the crack cocaine epidemic hit. In 1981, President Reagan enforced
stricter penalties for drug offenders, and the nation went from a system of care to a system of
criminal justice (Friedman 394). Legal consequences to broken laws are important, but the
consequence should match the crime. For instance, a few days in jail for accidentally running a
red light would be over the top. Think about how many people could potentially lose their jobs
over a traffic violation! But this is happening to many people struggling with addiction. They are
charged with possession and given a prison sentence, with lawmakers hoping the time away from
drugs will cure them. One major issue is overdose upon release. This is very dangerous to
someone in active addiction, because depending on the length of time away from the drug of
choice, the addict s tolerance level could decrease significantly. The problem lies mainly with
intravenous drug users and alcoholics, as there is a fine line between injecting or drinking to
excess to obtain a high and overdosing (Knezevich). Luckily, many prisons are recognizing this
and taking steps to keep it from happening. Offering counseling and support groups for addicts in
prison is common, but some prisons are taking a step further to curb the overdose upon release

The Negative Effects Of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
When a man or a women returns from a combat deployment overseas they come and everyone is
happy to see them, and this has been happening since the war in Iraq and Afghanistan wars
started. But what they don t realize is that that man or woman may not be so happy to be home
but they don t quite understand why. After past wars such as World War I this type of thing was
called war fatigue and they were told they were fine. But this isn t the cause in many men and
women returning home from today s wars. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can result from a
number of different traumatic events, but the intensity and duration of some people s reactions
can be quite different but that also has many factors. The negative effects of Post Traumatic
Stress Disorder is affecting families and the effects it has on families of patients. Post Traumatic
Stress Disorder isn t something new that has just appeared it s something people have been
dealing with for as long as we have understood what it really is. When a father or a mother comes

why they yell so much, verbal abuse and physical abuse is something that has become very
common in people with PTSD. With this the spouse or loved one may suffer the same or similar
abuse while just trying to care for a loved one not understanding why they may be this way.

However, sometimes peers influence each other in negative ways. For example, a few kids in
school might try to get you to cut class with them or a kid in the neighborhood might want you
to vandalize with him. A powerful negative peer influence can motivate a teen to make choices
and engage in behavior that his or her values might otherwise reject. Teens who feel isolated or
rejected by their peers or in their family are more likely to engage in risky behaviors in order to fit
in with a group.
But why do kids give in to peer pressure? Some kids give in to peer pressure because they want to
be liked, to fit in, or because they worry that other kids may make fun of them if they don t go
along with the group. The need for acceptance, approval, and belonging is vital during the teen
years. Others may go along because they are curious to try something new that others are doing.
The idea that everyone s doing it may influence some kids to leave their better judgment, or their
common sense, behind.
Anyway, nearly everyone ends up in a sticky peer pressure situation at some point. No matter
how wisely you choose your friends, or how well you think you know them, sooner or later you ll
have to make decisions that are difficult and could be unpopular. But these situations can be

Anwar Sadat and the October War
Various people have made significant contribution in defining the world order. Such contributions
sometimes take extremist viewpoints that almost draw parallel lines between varying ideological
standpoints that have informed world politics for many years. One such person is Anwar Sadat, the
former president of Egypt. President Sadat took over after the demise of President Gamel Abdel
Nasser in the year 1970, and led Egypt for eleven years. He attempted to reclaim the Sinai
Peninsula which had been taken and claimed by Israel. Sadat s plan to take back Sinai from Israel
helped Egypt to redefine its power and prestige in the world and to initiate negotiations for a peace
treaty with Israel.
In the plan to take back the Sinai from Israel and also to reinstitute and reestablish unity amongst
the Arab nations, Sadat employed diplomatic persuasion at its best. Several months prior to the
1976 war, president Sadat spent most of his time creating ties with the Organization of African
Unity (OAU), and other summit talks. This plan proved successful as numerous African states, as
well as the OAU, supported Egypt and isolated Israel while the other summit conferences backed
Sadat s plan to attack Israel. With regards to other Arab States, Sadat did not have to employ much
effort or persuasion as most leaders of the nations were close to him. At this point, Sadat had
managed to reinstate the confidence of the Egyptian people, get rid of the Soviet Union, and yet
again isolate Israel.

Examples Of Constitutional Compromises

Interpersonal Attraction
Interpersonal attraction can be defined as how and what attracts us to individuals. As a college
student, I am constantly judging people by the first moment I meet them because I am frequently
searching for friends and relations in my life. What sparked my interest to research this topic was
my fondness for the opposite sex. I was curious as to what attracted to me to certain men and not
others. Initially, I believed I was drawn solely to men from a physical attraction in an original
engagement, but I found that there is more to this matter. Although physicality is a large degree of
interpersonal attraction, research proves that there are several other determining factors playing a

In the atmosphere of technology, the ability to contact more people has dramatically increased,
but attraction is still hard to form if one has never met them (Johnson, 2000). The almighty
Facebook.com fanatics like myself have over a hundred friends, but my real friends that have
this global college networking, are the people I am in close physical proximity to; I think it is
hard to have a true attraction to people through a photo and email since it is not in physical
closeness and it seems unrealistic. A picture displayed online is not nearly as strong as actual
physical contingence. Accordingly, the possibility of attraction on first encounters drastically
increases if individuals are in close proximity to each other. People in close proximity
subsequentially increase their familiarity to individuals. Familiar people are more likely to be
attractive because they are judged to be safe, least likely to cause harm, and inexpensive in time
and effort. Initial appeal is most highly prominent when one is easy to physically approach
(Kazdin, 2000). The people I see on Arcadia s college campus, I expect to be harmless and
amenable for the reason of familiarity. To exemplify this, the exposure effect states that the more
exposure to a stimulus, the more apt we are to like them; the more times I see someone at college,

al.; 1966). In fact, Hunt (1975) states that since the ground patterns of the two regions are similar,
salt can be thought of as the warm form of ice. In the saltpan of Death Valley and the surrounding
floodplain similarities of patterned ground between these two types of regions can be seen, and will
be further described in this paper. Patterned Ground of Death Valley: The patterned ground
morphologies, characteristic of playa environments, which formed as a result of the expansion and
contraction of saline rich sediments, are similar to such crack morphologies seen in periglacial
environments, as a result of freeze thaw cycles. In periglacial environments the extent of
development of patterned grounds is proportional to the intensity of frost action, while in playa
environments; the extent of patterned ground is proportional to salt content (Hunt, et. al.; 1966).
The prominent patterned ground morphology among colder climates is ice wedge polygons that
develop on the permanently frozen ground. Similarly to the permanently frozen grounds of
periglacial environments, a salt hardened ground in a playa environment can develop extensive
polygonal crack morphologies (Hunt, et. al.; 1966). In desert regions, such as Death Valley,
desiccation cracks that lead to the formation of polygonal systems are the most prominent crack
morphologies. The general rapid drying of fine grained sediments within the Death Valley Basin

Catullus Poetry Analysis
A less theoretical definition of poetry is, putting the best words in the best possible order. A poet
may incorporate the theory as follows. The poet may astutely choose words possibly with a
double meaning in order to indirectly convey a message, evoke emotions, or to slander. Then, the
poet may unconventionally place such words and phrases perhaps out of expected order for the
sake of creating a wordpicture, emphasizing the speaker s feelings, or offering tangibility to the
poem. By implementing this idea onto poetic works, the poet will have auspiciously written a
superb poem. This theory may be applied to a few of Catullus s poems specifically Carmen 5 ,
Carmen 8 , and Carmen 85. Catullus s meticulous choice of words and arrangement highlight the
central focus of the poem, obliquely criticize traditional Roman law, manipulate the audience s
attitude, transmit the speaker s emotions, paint word pictures, and offer symbolic meaning
consequently producing a successful poem. For starters, Carmen 5 is an amorous poem Catullus
wrote directed at his forbidden lover, Lesbia. Catullus insists they should disregard the rumors of
old men, because while the sun is able to return, they only have one life to seize. Therefore,
Catullus demands hundreds and thousands of kisses in a jumbled up manner from Lesbia, so their
ardent passion cannot ever be cursed by the wicked ones. The strategic placement of the words let
us live and let us loveliterally place Lesbia as the central focus of the work. In the original Latin
text, the opening line reads as, vivamus, mea Lesbia, atque amemus, which the words vivamus and
amemus enclose Lesbia and thus point to her as the center of the poet s life and love
(Fredricksmeyer 436). It suggests Catullus viewed Lesbia as much more than an erotic, love poem
topic. Evidently, the poem is enhanced through Catullus placing the best words in the best possible
order, because the main subject of the poem is intentionally given significant importance.
Furthermore, in Carmen 5 Catullus chose the best words, when describing the people, whose
comments he and Lesbia should not be concerned about as sour old men (Gregory, L. 2). The
actual Latin words for the

The Toy Story Films From Pixar
The Toy Story films from Pixar are remembered fondly for their clever settings, good drama, and
memorable characters. These films pretty much have what every good movie can be expected to
have. One of the most fondly remembered characters of this film trilogy is the lead protagonist,
Sheriff Woody. In Toy Story
, a film where children s toys secretly come to life when no human is
around to witness them, Woody is the favorite toy of his own kid, Andy, who spends most of his
spare time playing with him in particular, taking him throughout his home and treating the toy like
a close friend, the same way a lot of kids tend to get attached to their own playthings. Because of
the attention, Woody has no concern of ever being separated from his owner,... Show more content

almost works, but the toys from Andy s room mistake Buzz s now broken arm as evidence that
Woody killed off Buzz out of jealousy, and refuse to help him get back. Woody, feeling guilty
and remorseful, realizes Buzz s sudden state of depression, and how he learned from a TV
commercial that he really is a toy. By this point, Woody feels responsible for getting both himself
and Buzz into this mess and confesses that he needs his help to get home. He also points out to
Buzz that he is a much cooler toy than him, and that he deserves to be adored by Andy the way
he used to be himself. Buzz, feeling sorry for Woody, decides to try and help him before being

The Pros And Cons Of Gun Control Laws
However, the idea of stricter gun laws should only apply to automatic assault weapons because
they are overpowered and more harmful that the regular standardized guns that individuals can
purchase in a store. For those who do not understand the difference between standard guns and
assault weapons, standard guns are guns such as pistols, shotguns, and rifles that fired one bullet
or round at a time after you pull the trigger, but assault weapons are guns that you can hold on the
trigger and it fires nonstop until you let go of the trigger. Many people think that military style
weapons such as automatic weapons are illegal, but they are actually legal in the United States.
Several decades ago, military weapons were banned when the Federal Assault... Show more content

Assault weapons are overpowering standard weapons in capability and efficiency and are more
destructive. This is proven in the infamous North Hollywood Shootout outside a bank. In Los
Angeles in 1997, two men robbed a bank wearing fully clothed black body armor and carried two
automatic rifles (Ayres). After robbing the bank, the two robbers engaged in a shootout between
them and a group of officers that lasted for an hour with the bandit s automatic weapons and the
police s standard guns and pistols (Ayres). The shootout resulted in ten police officers wounded
by the bandit s assault rifles, five citizens passing by the bank getting shot, and several others
inside the bank during the theft being injured during the heist (Ayres). Standard weapons are
needed for people to defend themselves, but military assault weapons are too dangerous to be in
the hands of common people, especially in society where it is more destructive than it being used

Manhattan Project History
The Manhattan Project was one, if not the most, secretive projects to take place in the history of
the United States of America. Dating back to World War II, its purpose was to create a bomb
capable of splitting atoms apart. The project was a success and resulted in one of the most
devastating bombs ever to be developed and utilized by mankind. Franklin Delano Roosevelt and
Harry S. Truman, the acting Presidents during the time, faced many factors that were involved in
deciding to proceed with developing and ultimately, dropping the bomb. August, 1939, Albert
Einstein was residing in a Nazi occupied Germany. Upon discovering that Germany was in the
process of researching and developing nuclear based weapons, he partnered with Edward Teller,...

Key Results Of Testing For Ppp Essay
5.1 Introduction
Following the methodology section, this chapter is going to present the main findings of the
PPP test and relevant information, graphs and tables will be shown as well. The purpose of this
part is to provide key results of testing for PPP in order to facilitate the following detailed
discussions. It is no doubt that this section can be viewed as the core of the whole project
because it depends on a variety of econometric tools to evaluate the financial data. The findings
consist of two major aspects: the one is on the examination of the strong version of PPP, namely
APPP; the other is on the test of RPPP, also known as the weak form of PPP.
5.2 Findings of Testing for APPP
As stated earlier, the APPP is based on the law of one price, stating that the real exchange rateis
equal to one. The formula is written by: (5)
For the convenience of our research, the equation above can be simplified to: (6) where Et
represents the nominal bilateral exchange rate, Pt* is the CPI in Japan, Pt means the Indian CPI.
Before analysing, what should do is to transmute the raw data into the natural logarithm form.
According to Jia and Rathi (2008), the major cause of transformation is that taking natural
logarithms not only indicates the elasticity of economic variables, but eliminates the issue of
heteroscedasticity efficiently. If an econometric model is heteroscedastic, the test of significance for

Andre Agassi Family Expectations
The extract from Andre Agassi s autobiography Open is about family expectations. When you ex

In the extract from Andre Agassis autobiography Open we are aware of how there are some fami

Analysis Of Nietzsche s Exegesis Of Christianity
One obtains the contextual meaning of moral acid by agglutinating the terms corrupt , dГ©cadence
and rotten.
Commentary: Christianity corrupts the natural faculties of man that are intellectually more
vigorous, that are the highest intellectual values, considering them as full of temptation, sinful or
misleading. Christianity destroys the intellect. If considered the generalization given by Nietzsche
there is the risk of to staying away of your conceptualization. One should remember that Nietzsche
did not make a exegesis of Christianity, but only he analyzes the interpretation of Christianity to
which he had access.

VirtГ№ occurs eight times in Will of Power and one time in AntiChrist, Beyond Good and Evil,
Twilight of Idols, Ecce Homo.
VirtГ№: virtue in its primitive signification is manliness, what preeminently distinguishes the full
grown and strong man from the feebler members of his own race; it is the power of resolute,
strenuous, persevering conflict and resistance. VirtГ№ denotes not simply a human being, but a
man endowed with all appropriate manly attributes. [APPMMP Andrew Preston Peabody, (1811
1893), A manual of moral philosophy, New York, Chicago: A. S. Barnes and company, 1873]
But, what is virtГ№ for Nietzsche?
Nietzsche does not define the term, but he is clear. In Will to Power, by citing the example of
somebody that feels be born for something better that the work he does, Nietzsche introduces
virtГ№ as have a certain kind of capacity and to use it and gives the origin: this is virtu in the

Are We Responsible For Our Actions
Are We Responsible For Our Actions The chance and uncertainty of randomness is an explanation
of freedom. Given this act it would break the causal chain and abolish determinisms freedom.
(Doyle 1,2) For human beings to have free will they are required to have some sort of
randomness. If their actions are a direct consequence of a random event they are not responsible for
their actions. Interdeterminism requires certainty to establish the knowledge and the laws of nature.
Strawson and Sartre have very different views regarding free will. Throughout the paper, the idea of
responsibility based on our actions and the issues of humanbeings not having free will is discussed.

With freedom comes true responsibility. What you do depends on who you are and who you
are depends on your genetics and earlier experiences which human beings have no control and
are not responsible of. You start to gain responsibility for who you are by your later actions. His
idea that everything depends on your genetics and early experience plays a role. (4,2) Even with
that it wont be able to restore your responsibility because when something is random it is
uncaused. This is why human beings are not responsible for their own actions. An example of
moral responsibility is if I had to choose between something. (4,4) I could be walking into the
mall where I have the exact amount of money to buy the pair of shoes I needed to match my
dress for a party. While walking in I was approached by a homeless man asking for money. I have
to make my decision to walk right past the man and buy the shoes or give him my money. This
idea I do not have the freedom to choose and I am ultimately responsible for the decision I make.

and wrongs, while still being able to deny the coherence of punishment and reward.

The Never-Ending Financial Crisis of 2008
Since it began in 2008, the US has faced what is being called the great recession. It is 2013, and
it is clear apparent that it is a recession longing to be cured. Through the works of Putnam, Sum et.
al., Wisman, and Colander, we can better understand this crisis and look for the best way to get out
of it.
To begin, Robert Putnam describes what has occurred in the U.S. over the past several decades. He
states that over the past several decades the U.S. has been subject to [an] economic and cultural
[entanglement] a mixture of government, private sector, community and personal failings (Putnam
2013, III).
Putnam believes that this financial crisis occurred as a result of layoffs, and many closings of
businesses (Putnam 2013, 2).
We can further this understanding by turning to Sum, et. al., who believed that the crisis occurred
due to the blue collar workers who have lost their jobs, and might never see those jobs again (Sum,
et. al. 2010, 6).
Our next economist to turn to is John D. Wisman. In his article he describes what he believes to be
the cause of the crisis. He states that this recession occurred centered upon inadequate regulation
stemming from laissez faire ideology, and low interest rates (Wisman 2013, 921). He further points
out that an underlying effect of wage stagnation and dramatically increasing inequality in the US
over the past 35 years may also be a cause.
Now to the guy who wrote our current textbook, Macroeconomics 9th Edition, who

Equity of Trade Versus Free Trade Essay
Equity of Trade Versus Free Trade
The U.S. has a huge trade imbalance with most trading nations. The imbalance is not in agriculture,
although many food products both raw and processed enter the U.S. at prices below those for
comparable U.S. grown foodstuffs. To a large degree the imbalanceis in manufactured goods. One
reason is that many nations have lower costs of production based upon a lower standard of living,
cheap labor, inexpensive raw materials, protective government policy, etc. Multinationals who have
moved their plants to foreign locations enjoy the best of both worlds inexpensive manufacturing
costs and unlimited access to the world s biggest consumer market, the USA. Our laissez faire trade
stance, when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s logical to believe that the foreign trading entity will not leave all the tariff money and accrued
interest to go into the U.S. Treasury by default. It will purchase a like amount of goods and
services to wipe out the trade credit account.
Analyze what happened: No one got taken advantage of. America got the imported goods. The
foreign entity received a like amount of American goods or services. The trade books are balanced.
All monies earned interest every step of the way.
The U.S. didn t allow inexpensive foreign goods to displace American goods on price alone. It
made the foreign goods compete on a quality basis with American goods. American consumers
will make the choice of which is better at a comparable price. If the foreign goods are really
superior to the American goods, then the foreign manufacturer will have earned an increased
share of the world market and the U.S. manufacturer or ag producer will have to get more
competitive or go out of business. The reverse is also true so the free market and the law of
supply and demand still gets a chance to work, but it works on the basis of quality and value, not
upon inherent differences in world standards of living.
Is it logical for the U.S. to unilaterally adopt Equity of Trade? It is logical if Americans want to
continue the nation s constitutional directive to protect the American

Horror Scene In Psycho
As a person who dislikes horror, I don t typically watch horror films, especially modern horror
films. However, after watching the small clip of Psycho in class, it peaked my interest to further
understand the characters, in particular, Norman Bates character. In the film Psycho, the recurring
theme is a more psychological and can be demonstrated throughout the film but in particular, the
parlor scene and the end scene at the jail. One of the most revealing moments of the psychological
aspect of horror in this film is the scene which includes Norman Batesand Marion Crane sharing
dinner in his office parlor. On the surface, it s a dialogue between two characters which reveals
some backstory information about Norman and is an epiphany moment... Show more content on

The shower scene is a greatly crafted scene that truly captivates the death of Marion and the
introduction to the mysterious murder at Bates Motel. This scene starts with Marion making
calculation on the money she spent then leading her to shower. During this shower and prior to
the killing, we receive a total of two power shots of the shower head running. This is a quite odd,
but truly meaningful. When Marion is about to be murdered we receive a panned shot which
includes Marion showering and a mysterious figure walking closer and closer to her. This then
prompts Leigh s famous scream, now a key element for horror films. The thing that really makes
this scene scary is the scoring which initiates just as the killer slides the shower curtain open.
The scoring switches from a very high pitched to a more low toned sound. I absolutely love the
scoring at this instant because no matter how many times I watch it, the scene always makes me
jump and clench back in fear. After Marion drops to the floor, we get moving shot that leads to
the drain, slowly zooming in and then switching to Marion s eye eventually capturing her whole
head. What I found the most intriguing about this scene is the fact that they show her eye open,
looking almost bead like. After watching the parlor scene and based on some research I did on
taxidermy, when you stuff an animal, you usually add beads to replace their eyes because

The Equality Of Payment For Both Women And Men
The equality of payment for both women and men
Thanks to Venus Williams and Billie Jean King fight at Wimbledon, women now have equal pay at

tournament that ended in victory for younger sister Serena. Venus Williams has fought and helped
win a long battle for women athletes. According to ESPNW, Williams made her first public
mention of the need for grand slam events to award equal prize money to men and women back in

That same year, Roger Federer won the men s championship game against American Andy
Roddick in straight sets, collecting $1.13 million in prize money. But, his female counterpart,
Williams won only $1.08 million. After Venus speech at the All England Club, the women s
championship prize money was increased, according to ESPN W, but still did not match the
men s award. A question was asked in the year 2006 of why the pay gap persisted in the face of
increasing criticism, the club chairman , Tim Phillips, justified the prize discrepancy saying the
physical demands of the men s best of five matches are much higher than those of the women s
best of three. The club didn t view the prize as an equal rights issue . The top ten ladies last year
earned more from Wimbledon than the top 10 men did by playing in the double tournaments.
Venus is a superior athlete, a legend but she is also an activist who revolutionized her sport off the
court with her fight for prize equality. People thought this story shouldn t be regulated to dusty
history books and British newspapers. People in the United States should know of her true
professional bravery and personal tenacity in making sure women athletes are regarded and
rewarded on par with their male counterparts. This was Williams s mission. The CEO of the women
s tennis association (WTA) Larry Scott, asked Venus Williams if she would be willing to play a
central role in aggressively pursuing equal pay, a mission she embraced. Williams

horrific, violent, Nazi concentration camps; that would give even a cold hearted reader shivers.

  • 2. Egg Came Before Chicken Research Paper What came first the chicken or the egg? This has been a debated question for some time now. Some say the chicken came first, some say the egg came first, and others have no idea. In our opinion, the egg came before the chicken no matter how you look at it. Rather, you are religious, or you believe in science, the egg came before the chicken. In this research paper Mike and I will be explaining how we think the egg came before the chicken from a religious point of view and a scientific point of view. First, we will be explaining how the egg came before the chicken from a religious point of view. Genesis 1:24 said And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. This bible quote says how God created land animals, but it does not say they magically appeared on earth. One way you can look at it is God created an egg and the egg hatch, and there is your chicken. It is also a possibility that he created a proto chicken egg, or a non chicken egg that hatched a non chicken,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I am a spiritual person, and I believe in God. I also believe in science to a certain extent.I also believe that he did put some mature animal on earth and allowed them to skip birth, but I do not think this is the situation for the chicken. I believe God created a non chicken which eventually gave birth to a chicken egg which hatched a chicken. I know that genetic mutation is possible, so this is how I believe the chicken was born. Over time, due to genetic mutation a chicken was hatched from a chicken egg. My explanation is biblical as well as scientific. I inputted information from both point of views in my explanation because, I am a spiritual guy and I also agree with science, and I believe that I expressed my answer in both ways the best that I could and I do not see myself getting persuaded to change my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... more firms exhibit characteristics similar to those of non dividend paying firms), Fama and French nonetheless report that once they control for these characteristics, they still find a significant decline in the residual propensity to pay dividends. This evidence poses a further challenge to dividend theories in so far as candidate theories should be able to explain time series changes in the propensity to pay dividends. We extend this literature by examining cross sectional and time series evidence on the propensity to pay dividends in several developed financial markets the United States (U.S.), Canada, the United Kingdom (U.K.), Germany, France, and Japan over the period 1989 to 2002. Specifically, we examine (i) whether the characteristics of dividend payers and nonpayers are common across countries; (ii) whether these characteristics have changed over time; and (iii) whether firms in other countries exhibit a declining propensity to pay dividends in recent years. In addition, the use of international data allows us to provide further tests of the life cycle, signaling, clientele, and catering explanations by analyzing the concentration of dividend payments as well as the association between Baker and Wurgler s (2004a,b) dividend premium and the propensity to pay dividends in other countries. Our evidence reveals common determinants of dividends across countries. Like Fama and French (2001), we find ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Reaction Paper On Listeria FOOD QUALITY AND SAFETY ASSURANCE Listeria is an infection caused by the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. An estimated 1600 people are diagnosed with listeriosis each year around the world, and about 1/5th of these patients die.( Listeria (Listeriosis) | Listeria | CDC, n.d.)вЃ The symptoms of Listeria include fever and diarrhea similar to other food contaminating germs, but the common nature of those means it is rarely diagnosed. Invasive Listeria, or when the bacteria has spread beyond the stomach, is especially dangerous to pregnant women, as it can usually fly under the radar with symptoms analogous to that of flu and fatigue. It can, however, cause complications with childbirth, leading to stillbirth and miscarriages in some cases. The other demographic immediately and most at risk are the older people and people with weakened immunity due to diseases such as HIV or other health issues. ... While other food borne diseases are quick to show symptoms, it can some times take as much as 10 weeks for the symptoms to show up after being exposed to the bacteria, which makes it far more difficult to treat. ( Symptoms | Listeria | CDC, n.d.)вЃ One of the most recent examples of Listeria outbreak in recent times has been that of Dole Salads. Dole Salads is a major US company with its products being sold under the umbrella of various brands in major supermarkets such as Lidl, Aldi, Walmart etc. This outbreak was in many ways precedent setting. According to the Center for Disease Control in the US, this was one of the first major Listeria outbreak which could be attributed to Leafy greens. Listeria, in most cases is associated with deli meats, raw dairy products or seafood. The indication that the bacterium in question is slowly evolving to find new suitors for itself is scary enough, but not as scary as the actions taken by Dole Salads in this particular ... • 5. Scotland Act 1998 Essay The Parliament of the United Kingdom and the Scottish Parliament are the main sources of law in Scotland. However, the Scotland Act 1998 and the Human Rights Act 1998 are two pieces of legislation, produced by the Parliament of the United Kingdom, which have had a significant impact on the development of the law in Scotland. They have made important changes to how law is made in Scotland and how the Scottish legal system works. This essay aims to examine what it is these Acts are intended to do, and discuss the impact they have had on the development of law in Scotland. Until the Acts of Union 1707, which formed the Parliament of Great Britain (the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1801), Scotland had a separate Parliament which was able ... The Scotland Act 1998 also provides that the Scottish Government can change the basic rate of income tax. Previously, before the Scotland Act 1998, all taxation powers were the domain of the UK Parliament. Therefore, the Scottish Parliament may legislate for any issue which is not a reserved matter, and as long as the legislation doesn t contravene the criteria set out by Section 29(2). • 6. The Economic Risks Of Argentina Argentina has had a very interesting, unpredictable, and faulty economic system is the last century. The country has seen everything from economic superiority in South America to the greatest depression in their current history. Argentina s economy hit rock bottom in the year of 2002, but in 2012 and the beginning of 2014 Argentinas government has put into place more strict and reasonable economic policy. (The World FactBook, 2014) This country has the resources to become an emerging economyand join its neighbor, Brazil, in the emerging markets of the world. As of right now, Argentina s economic growth rate, as measure by GDP (Gross Domestic Product), is trending upwards, but that could be a deceiving trend for companies looking to do business ,and invest, in Argentina. (The World FactBook, 2014) Economic Risks of Doing Business in Argentina Even though Argentina is showing signs of growth, the risk of investing in and doing business in the country is still very high. Euler Hermes, an economic research company, rates the risk level of doing business in Argentina as a D4. (Cazalets, 2014)A D4 rating is the highest risk rating that a country is able to receive. Since this country has such a high risk rating right now, businesses should be cautious and require a high return when investing their assets into the country. If a company is looking for ease of doing business in a South American market, Argentina would be the last country on their list. (World Bank Group, 2014) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A few of the traits of an ISTP consisted of the individual living in the moment , Down to earth , Logic driven , unflappable , level headed , realistic , private , and quiet . The personality assessment described me pretty well with a percentage of 80. However, there were some aspects of the assessment I did not agree with wholeheartedly. The fifth is quiet, I am a person of little words and so I don t say much. I am more of a listener and tend to gather information in order to come to a conclusion regarding problem. Overall, I thought the assessment was correct in describing my personality. At the end of the assessment, I was given my strengths and weaknesses based on my personality type. • 8. The Revenge Tragedy Of Hamlet Essay Issara Butt Professor Abbott English 102 November 30, 2016 The Revenge Tragedy of Hamlet Revenge tragedies share some common characteristics of the play Hamlet which classify them in the group of many great stories such as The Spanish Tragedy, and King Lear. A vengeful ghost, a play within a play, and the main character who seeks revenge on an opponent and murdered (KAY). At some point in life many of us feel the need to seek revenge and never actually act upon it, but what if we did? What would be the consequences and what would life be like afterwards. The thoughts we have of this makes the stories of revenge tragedies exciting and intriguing. They are our thoughts written on paper and into a story making as if what we think is actually happening. In the time of Shakespearean writing, things would have gone slightly different. The play Hamlet, is a prime example of a revenge tragedy in its refined state of written speech. Hamlet is a revenge tragedy for many reasons, not only that but it is the most written, re enacted, and read play of all time (TUMIEL). The multiple plots of revenge, murders, and ghost appearances makes Hamlet the leading play of revenge tragedies and most studied currently in academic curriculums. It is believed to be that William Shakespeare s Hamlet was based off of Thomas Kyd s story, Ur Hamlet (MABILLARD). Although Ur Hamlet was a rough and uncut version of a revenge tragedy and needed further developing, but Shakespeare s Hamlet is well refined, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Tobacco Smoke And Its Effects On Health Tobacco smoke is immensely harmful to one s health. Cigarettes contain about 600 ingredients, when this burned can generate 7,000 chemicals according to American Lung Association Many ad campaigns and literatures have been published on the detriments of smoking. Medical reports further shows that half of all long term smokers will die from a smoking related disease. This unhealthy practice must be addressed by the government to lessen the medical cost to treat the ill effects of smoking. Despite all available data available on smoking s ill effects government has little success in reducing incidence of smoking. The New Zealand Government is currently addressing a smoking problem in the country. The government adopted the Smoke free 2025 goal for New Zealand, in March 2011. This response was based on the recommendations of a landmark Parliamentary inquiry by the Maori Affairs select committee. The committee s report was clear that the term smoke free was intended to communicate an aspirational goal and not a commitment to the banning of smoking altogether by 2025. On that basis, the Government agreed with the goal of reducing smoking prevalence and tobacco availability to minimal levels, thereby making New Zealand essentially a smoke free nation by 2025 . (Health, 2014). It is important to have consistent information to help to monitor the progress toward this goal. The smoke free campaign in New Zealand for a smoke free 2025 is now on its fourth year. This health ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Crystal Frontier By Carlos Fuentes In The Crystal Frontier, Carlos Fuentes presents two of his main characters in much a similar fashion; in Spoils, we find Dionisio is a world renowned chef and cuisine connoisseur, and also a fervent critic of American cuisine and culture. Dionisio believes that through his country s chromosomal imperialism, Mexicowill be able to solidify its sphere of influence in America; however, when he travels to the United States, he indulges in the same institutions that he ridicules when he lives in Mexico. Similarly, in Pain we encounter the young and aspiring doctor, Juan Zamora. Zamora is an ambitious student who travels to the United States to further his education and learns that successful networking is the way to get ahead in American society. Zamora and Dionisio are both functions of their environment. When they are living in America, they are exhibiting an innate interconnectedness with society, and when they live in Mexico quite the opposite; Zamora and Dionisio display traditional attributes which are stereotypical to that of the Mexican who lives in solitude. This essay will seek to dissect each character and describe how each utilizes his own respective Mexican Mask to acquire what he truly desires, and it will describe how each character s personality fluctuates simply due to where he is geographically located. • 11. English Piracy Definition Very few people today, perhaps those who have stared death in the face, can possibly comprehend what it would have been like to stand on the gallows at high tide as the executioner fashioned a noose around the pirate s neck; the last significant act before his final voyage, a short drop and a quick stop. The English political and legal processes that delivered this defiant captain and hundreds of others condemned for piracyto their final destination is the focus of this study. Their contemporaries described them as Robbers, Opposers, and Violators of all Laws, Humane and Divine. Many viewed themselves as a more selfish reincarnation of Robin Hood, stealing from wealthy merchants, foreign traders, and abusive captains, and in doing so, threatening ... Furthermore, the defining legal question leading to extreme ambiguity in the prosecution of pirates during the seventeenth century was at what point did acting outside of one s commission constitute an act of piracy? The conclusion of Great Britain s hostilities with France and Spain in 1713 rendered this question irrelevant as the new wave of pirates targeted primarily British, not neutral or allied ships, clearly defining their aggression as piracy. The change in targets also reduced the prosecution s need to rely on accomplice testimony, a source of controversy in civil law proceedings, since attacks occurring off nearby shores provided easier access to victim testimony. Finally, the increase in colonial newspapers and the dissemination of their publication of piracy trials reports did assist in reducing procedural inconsistencies, but not in the way previously suggested. Instead, it was the increased familiarity with civil law and piracy trial procedures within the reports, combined with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Read alouds (Cooper, 2015, p. 37) were used in this lesson to really help children to focus on certain topics of the text. Sometimes the best way to help children understand a particular piece of text is to read it aloud to them and discuss it with them (Cooper, 2015, p. 37). Think alouds (Cooper, 2015, p. 30) were incorporated into this lesson when trying to explain how to use the strategy of character mapping. Think alouds are a great way to explain to students how to use a specific skill or strategy so that they can have a better time comprehending it. Semantic maps (Cooper, 2015, p.83) were used in this lesson for brainstorming ideas from the text to later reference when making illustrations and creating short responses to the text. This strategy is also a great tool for second language learners because it helps to narrow down the specific parts in the text to help create more details of the topic being taught. Lehman Case Study Writeup Essay Organizational Power and Influence Lehman Case Analysis Lewis Glucksman who scrapped his way up through Lehman s unprestigious but increasingly profitable stock and bond trading department, was able to take control of the firm after a bitter power struggle against its former CEO, Peter Peterson. Glucksman was victorious in the end as he proved himself to be an indispensible part of Lehman s operations. Historically this has always been a formula for disaster. Justifications for the duality were unconvincing. Peterson was suppose to be the external client facing image of the company whereas Glucksman was suppose to be the internal executioner of operations. The division of duties may seem clear but it does not lead to a clear division of power. At the very top of a major Wall Street company, power must be clearly defined and completely authoritative. If it is not, then human nature and the nature of an organization will eventually find a way to define power. In this case, power was defined through duties and internal duties won over external duties. Also contributing to the outcome of the power struggle were structural features that existed across the financial industry. The whole industry is governed and motivated by profits generated through individual contribution irrespective of the firm s net performance. This particular industry structure results in the classic inter departmental tensions to maximize the individual department s profits. To a certain extent, Lehman had to comply with rest of the companies by creating the isolated departmental structure to maintain its top performers. As a result, when a department creates 60 80% of the firm s profit, the power shifts to the department making the most money. Lehman could have created an alternate compensation strategy to reduce the potential for power struggle between the departments. For example, rather ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Not many other animals possess the same traits or qualities as they do. The endangered mammalintrigues me because of their unique appearance, their ability to show emotions that other animals cannot, and their high intelligence level. These gentle giants are a fascinating component of the animal kingdom. To some, the African Elephantmay seem a little odd, but they have their place in the world. The body of an African Elephant, though unconventional in comparison to other animals, is perfect for their way of life. Their large ears give them the ability to hear sounds up to 6.2 miles away, in ideal conditions, while also serving as a communication device. Their unusual oval shaped feet act as a shock absorber due to the thick fatty tissue it is made up of. This allows the elephantsto walk silently because sounds are muffled under their feet. Lastly, the trunk on an elephant is made up of eight major muscles on either side which gives the elephant the ability to lift up to 700,000 pounds. How Does Shakespeare Use Figurative Language In Sonnet 130 In William Shakespeare s poem Sonnet 130, he describes his lover in a non idealistic way by describing her features which are the complete opposite of a typical lady in a Petrarchan sonnet. A sonnet is a 14 line poem with 10 syllable lines and a rhyming scheme that uses iambic pentameter. Petrarchan sonnets idolize women by creating a dream lady, thus resulting in unrealistic features. The typical Petrarchan lady has blonde hair, a high forehead, pale skin, and a long neck, and the physical traits are seen as a reflection of inner beauty. Shakespeare s Sonnet130 uses figurative language and a creative structure to mock the Petrarchan ideal by portraying true love for what s in the inside instead of lust or infatuation. Such contributions sometimes take extremist viewpoints that almost draw parallel lines between varying ideological standpoints that have informed world politics for many years. He attempted to reclaim the Sinai Peninsula which had been taken and claimed by Israel. Sadat s plan to take back Sinai from Israel helped Egypt to redefine its power and prestige in the world and to initiate negotiations for a peace treaty with Israel. In the plan to take back the Sinai from Israel and also to reinstitute and reestablish unity amongst the Arab nations, Sadat employed diplomatic persuasion at its best. Several months prior to the 1976 war, president Sadat spent most of his time creating ties with the Organization of African Unity (OAU), and other summit talks. This plan proved successful as numerous African states, as well as the OAU, supported Egypt and isolated Israel while the other summit conferences backed Sadat s plan to attack Israel. With regards to other Arab States, Sadat did not have to employ much effort or persuasion as most leaders of the nations were close to him. As a college student, I am constantly judging people by the first moment I meet them because I am frequently searching for friends and relations in my life. What sparked my interest to research this topic was my fondness for the opposite sex. I was curious as to what attracted to me to certain men and not others. Initially, I believed I was drawn solely to men from a physical attraction in an original engagement, but I found that there is more to this matter. A picture displayed online is not nearly as strong as actual physical contingence. Accordingly, the possibility of attraction on first encounters drastically increases if individuals are in close proximity to each other. People in close proximity subsequentially increase their familiarity to individuals. Familiar people are more likely to be attractive because they are judged to be safe, least likely to cause harm, and inexpensive in time and effort. Initial appeal is most highly prominent when one is easy to physically approach (Kazdin, 2000). In the saltpan of Death Valley and the surrounding floodplain similarities of patterned ground between these two types of regions can be seen, and will be further described in this paper. Patterned Ground of Death Valley: The patterned ground morphologies, characteristic of playa environments, which formed as a result of the expansion and contraction of saline rich sediments, are similar to such crack morphologies seen in periglacial environments, as a result of freeze thaw cycles. In periglacial environments the extent of development of patterned grounds is proportional to the intensity of frost action, while in playa environments; the extent of patterned ground is proportional to salt content (Hunt, et. al.; 1966). The prominent patterned ground morphology among colder climates is ice wedge polygons that develop on the permanently frozen ground. Similarly to the permanently frozen grounds of periglacial environments, a salt hardened ground in a playa environment can develop extensive polygonal crack morphologies (Hunt, et. al.; 1966). In desert regions, such as Death Valley, desiccation cracks that lead to the formation of polygonal systems are the most prominent crack morphologies. • 35. Catullus Poetry Analysis A less theoretical definition of poetry is, putting the best words in the best possible order. A poet may incorporate the theory as follows. The poet may astutely choose words possibly with a double meaning in order to indirectly convey a message, evoke emotions, or to slander. Then, the poet may unconventionally place such words and phrases perhaps out of expected order for the sake of creating a wordpicture, emphasizing the speaker s feelings, or offering tangibility to the poem. By implementing this idea onto poetic works, the poet will have auspiciously written a superb poem. This theory may be applied to a few of Catullus s poems specifically Carmen 5 , Carmen 8 , and Carmen 85. Catullus s meticulous choice of words and arrangement highlight the central focus of the poem, obliquely criticize traditional Roman law, manipulate the audience s attitude, transmit the speaker s emotions, paint word pictures, and offer symbolic meaning consequently producing a successful poem. For starters, Carmen 5 is an amorous poem Catullus wrote directed at his forbidden lover, Lesbia. Catullus insists they should disregard the rumors of old men, because while the sun is able to return, they only have one life to seize. Therefore, Catullus demands hundreds and thousands of kisses in a jumbled up manner from Lesbia, so their ardent passion cannot ever be cursed by the wicked ones. The strategic placement of the words let us live and let us loveliterally place Lesbia as the central focus of the work. In the original Latin text, the opening line reads as, vivamus, mea Lesbia, atque amemus, which the words vivamus and amemus enclose Lesbia and thus point to her as the center of the poet s life and love (Fredricksmeyer 436). It suggests Catullus viewed Lesbia as much more than an erotic, love poem topic. Evidently, the poem is enhanced through Catullus placing the best words in the best possible order, because the main subject of the poem is intentionally given significant importance. Furthermore, in Carmen 5 Catullus chose the best words, when describing the people, whose comments he and Lesbia should not be concerned about as sour old men (Gregory, L. 2). It is 2013, and it is clear apparent that it is a recession longing to be cured. Through the works of Putnam, Sum et. al., Wisman, and Colander, we can better understand this crisis and look for the best way to get out of it. To begin, Robert Putnam describes what has occurred in the U.S. over the past several decades. He states that over the past several decades the U.S. has been subject to [an] economic and cultural [entanglement] a mixture of government, private sector, community and personal failings (Putnam 2013, III). Putnam believes that this financial crisis occurred as a result of layoffs, and many closings of businesses (Putnam 2013, 2). We can further this understanding by turning to Sum, et. al., who believed that the crisis occurred due to the blue collar workers who have lost their jobs, and might never see those jobs again (Sum, et. al. 2010, 6). Our next economist to turn to is John D. Wisman. In his article he describes what he believes to be the cause of the crisis. He states that this recession occurred centered upon inadequate regulation stemming from laissez faire ideology, and low interest rates (Wisman 2013, 921).
