Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard is a poem by Thomas Gray which was first published in
1751. The origins of the poem are unknown, but it was somewhat inspired by Gray s thoughts of
the death of the poet Richard West in 1742. The poem presents the argument that the remembrance
of death can be good and bad. The narrator finds comfort in thinking about the lives once lived by
the people buried in the churchyard. The poem is not just about death, it is about how people are
remembered after they have died. In the first stanza of the poem we see the first metaphor in the
poem. Line one, The curfew tolls the knell of parting day , is a metaphor for death because a
knell is a bell that rings when someone dies. The author could be saying that the day is dying, or

replaces the word over with o er in order to make the number of syllables fit the iambic

the speaker clearly states that the ancestors that are in the graves are dead and are never going to

In taking the memory demonstration test I scored a hit rate of 87%. My false alarm rate was at
0% and my false memory rate was at 0% as well. I found the most suprising part of the test to be
the comparison of my false memory rate to the average rates listed. During the test I quickly

Lake will seek to. Mistakes on the Lake will be less of a slice of life piece, though it will
emphasize that anyone can get addicted to heroin. In 2016, the PBS documentary series
Frontline produced a two hour investigative episode called Chasing Heroin that sought to
educate people about addiction and reach the root of the opioid problem. Mistakes on the Lake
will focus more on the stories of individuals, and it will center specifically around the Northern
Ohio region. Chasing Heroin focuses on the big picture , the nation at large. While the issue of
heroin abuse and overdose obviously did not happen overnight, it is still a relatively new issue.
Most of the literature surrounding heroin does not focus on the source of the epidemic and the

Performance Review on The Ghost Sonata While reading one of our assigned plays, The Ghost
Sonata by August Strindberg, I found myself confused throughout most of the play, for this reason,
I attended one of the performances at Tulsa Community College s Southeast Campus in the Studio
Theatre. I was present for the Friday show, October 7, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. The play was directed by,
TCC s Coordinator of Theatre Faculty Chair of Visual and Performing Arts and Assistant Professor,

He decided on Syria to bring attention to the civil war that started in 2011, and still continues today.
There are many similarities between The Ghost Sonata and Syria, such as, people being
condemned for their sins, death everywhere, and corruption. TCC s theatre department did an
excellent job bringing The Ghost Sonata to life, and the use of present day Syria as the setting,
tied in nicely. The set was designed to look like an apartment building that had been bombed in a
war torn town. The costumes that the actors wore were true to what you would see people of
Syria wearing. Many of the women were dressed in the traditional Abayah, which is, a black
garment that covers them from shoulders to feet. They were also wearing a head and face cover
that only shows their eyes. The one costume that really stood out was The FiancГ©e. She wore a
long white dress that had an antique look to it. Her hair was very long and white as well. Her make
up had a ghostly appearance, leaving you to wonder if the fiancГ©e was just showing her age,
or if she was in fact a ghost. There was one costume that did not make sense to me, and that was

Some people follow arranged marriages through religious beliefs. Each era of their family tree has
passed this down to one another in hopes to continue culture. This marriage started in India and
later expanded into different countries like Japan, Islam, etc. In the movie Arranged it shows the
perspective of a different culture. There are two women name Rochel and Nasira. One woman is
Jewish the other Muslims and finds out plenty of similarities they share. Both families were strict

it that influences us to have those feeling to someone of the same sex? What does this all mean?
Approximately 100 years ago a German physician by the name of Magnus Hirschfeld suggest that
the brain of a fetus could possibly show early signs of whether or not a person would be of
homosexual or heterosexual nature when they became an adult. Can testing and research really tell
us how our innermost thoughts and feeling lead up to a preference of Sexual Orientation?
Major changes took place in the early 19th century when homosexuality started to be looked at in a
different light. Homosexuality started to be looked at and considered as part of nature. Up to this
point the idea of homosexuality was considered wrong in many cultures as well as a punishable
crime in some cases. Even though in ancient Greece the practice of homosexuality was accepted

I think that the author does an amazing job portraying his idea without having to tell us very
much. This is not to say though, that I agree with his message. Harvey seems to be saying we
are born pure and are corrupted by the world as we grow, but I strongly disagree with this. As we
