A network uses switching nodes to transmit data long distances between end devices. Switching nodes route data from node to node without examining the content. A collection of nodes and their connections form a communications network. Data entering the network is routed to its destination by being switched from node to node. There are three main switching technologies: circuit switching, packet switching, and message switching.
