This presentation discusses isochroman-4-one, a polyphenolic compound isolated from banana peel that has potential as an antihypertensive agent. Isochroman-4-one was extracted from Musa sapientum L. banana peel using ethanol and further purified. It works as an ACE inhibitor and alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist, lowering blood pressure similarly to captopril but with greater potency. Structure-activity relationship analysis found that substitution at the C-6 position of isochroman-4-one conferred greater vasodilation potency compared to the C-7 and C-8 positions. Future research may explore isochroman-4-one derivatives as potential antihist
