Louis
Real Video
This advert starts off with a guy sat in his chair however the camera is focused on a picture frame of him
and someone else and this relates to the national approach and how proud he is of his country. They also
include some Scottish background music throughout the advert. It then goes to a girl bringing home her
new boyfriend and introduces him to her dad whilst her dad is reading a magazine “Scottish Stuff” and
when her boyfriend Jeff introduces himself to her dad he has an English accent which makes her dad
have to take a drink of Irn Bru so he can calm down and talk to him. Her boyfriend then takes off his
jacket and is wearing a England football t-shirt which has the year 1966 on it which is when England won
the world cup and the camera angle is a close up of the badge which says 66 on it and this again makes
the dad take another sip of irn bru and to finish it off the dad asks if they have any plans and when he
says he’s gong to take his dog Wembley for a walk and the dog is wearing an England dog jacket and then
the dog farts on the carpet of the Scottish flag and he has to have a final sip of irn bru then the adverts
goes a still of irn bru cans and a photo frame of the daughter and her dad which says “irn bru gets you
through” The advert is trying to advertise the drink by using comedy and this is effective as its different
to other adverterts and it sticks in your brain. This advert is effective because its funny as you see the
girls dad who is so proud to be Scottish as we can see straight away as soon as the advert starts with the
picture frame whilst he’s reading his magazine and the girls boyfriend is very proud to be English as he’s
wearing an England football shirt and calls his dog Wembley and then you can tell by the fathers facial
expression that he was expecting her to have a Scottish boyfriend so this comes to a shock to him so
therefore he needs some Irn Bru
My Video
My video starts off by two people waking one they bump into each other and he says “what your doing
nerd” then a ginger Scottish man wearing a kilt asks if Kian if he wants an irn bru and once he drinks it
he be becomes powerful then he goes to smack jack in the face. In my video I use a sound effect of the
two knocking into each other and then I used a woosh sound effect for when the guy in the kilt comes
and gives Kian an irn bru. We also used comedy in our advert which is our way to advertise the brand
to our audience. We filmed our advert on a canon 600d and edited the video using adobe premiere
pro. We included a close up shot but mainly used the medium shots within our advert as this worked
effective as the audience could see everything that was In shot. In the process of editing the advert
there wasn’t any advanced editing techniques as I didn’t really include any special effects or color
correction it was mainly just cutting the clips so the went smoothly together and adjusting the audio as
well as including sound effects so that it went smoothly together. To try and make the audience buy
the product this is done by the comedic element as well as the end screen of irn bru so that it sticks
into the audiences head so they remember the product. My advert is in linear structure and if I was to
do this again I would chose to do it non-linear.
Real Advergame
The real advergame “Toss The Girder” is a game where you need to toss the girder and collect irn bru
cans to get more throws. The guy tossing the girder is wearing a kilt in the irn bru color scheme and is als
wearing a blue t-shirt which links in to the irn bru color scheme. The game has a irn bru can at the top of
the screen to count how many irn bru cans you have left after you’ve used them it also has a orange
pause button which also links in with the irn bru color scheme. The fact of persuasion is having the irn bru
cans to collect so you can keep the Girder in the air and get a higher score. The girder links in to irn bru
because irn bru is “made in Scotland by girders” The game is addictive and fun to play which helps them
with advertising because the audience wouldn’t want to play a boring game. They have another
advergame called “Pumping Irn” where you have to hit the arrow key to pump the irn cans up and you
have to see how many. They advertise irn bru by the cans that he’s lifting and another way is by having
the background of the games relating to Scotland by having mountains. The man in the game is also
wearing a kilt which also suggests he’s Scottish and the kilt is in the color scheme of the irn bru brand. All
this links into the stereo type of Scottish people loving there country so much however in this case the
scottish guy loves irn bru so much that he feels the need to wear an irn bru themed kilt
My Advergame
My advergame was put together on Photoshop by using frame animation and designed all the
characters and animation and everything in Photoshop as well. The game object of the game is that
you have to collect the irn bru cans and jump on the ledges so you don’t fall and die however the
obstacles to avoid are the other brands drinks and I chose to collect the irn bru drinks to advertise the
brand and the repetition of collecting these drinks will stick into the audiences head and they will
remember the brand. Another way I've persuaded the audience to buy the drinks and to advertise the
brand is I've used the irn bru colors scheme for my game so the colors will stick in the audiences head
and next time they see these colors they’ll instantly think of irn bru. My advergame is a mobile game
so that it is convenient to my market audience and this game can be played anywhere at anytime. If I
was to also do this I would include a level at the end where the character needs to defeat the monster
and the irn bru would help the character power up to defeat the monster. This would also help
advertisement because it suggests that irn bru makes you powerful. In my game there was a coca cola
can and this was an obstacle to avoid and if my character got this he would enter some dark world
and the only way to save him would be to collect more irn bru cans and get enough so he goes to irn
bru heaven
Video Comparison
My advert was made very differently compared to the irn bru advert as we didn’t have the
resources that they had or the time that we had however a similarity is that at the end of
the advert they both end with a still shot with the product and logo to advertise irn bru.
Another similarity from the real irn bru advert and mine is that the irn bru helps the men
not to be stressed out and in my advert it helps him gain confidence. My video contains
mainly of medium shots unlike the real video which contains a range of short from over
the shoulder shot to close up shots. Both of these adverts are linear structures. Another
difference is that the real video is set inside someone's house and mine is set outside a
college. Another difference is that the two adverts have complete different storylines as
the real advert is about a girl introducing her English boyfriend to her very proud Scottish
dad. If I did this advert again I would include different camera angles and use different
shots and I also would include some more advanced editing skills such as when the guy in
the kilt appears I would include a smooth transition and make the advert more interesting
to watch and if I had more time I would try and include more people in the advert. I think
a weakness of our advert is that we only used one camera shot and a strength would be at
the end of the advert it includes smooth transitions. Our advert was pretty simple to edit
however we did have to re-record all the audio so that I could be heard clearly then had to
record some background noise again so we could put this over the audio and sound effect.
Advergame Comparison
Some similarities between me advergame and is that they both have a similar color scheme of blue
and orange. Another similarity is that on both you need to collect the irn bru cans. One main
difference is the real game is a game for computer and pc unlike my game which is made for
smartphones and tablets. My game is very simple compared to the real advergame and this was
made in Photoshop using frame animation. If I had more time I would of liked to add more levels
and include more objects to make the game harder. I would also include some power ups where if
you collect a certain amount of irn bru then you would get a power up which entitles you to gain
more points. I would also of liked to add a score count in the top corner if I had more time to do
so. Another difference is my game includes different brands such as coca cola unlike the real
advergame also the realadvergame doesn’t include background music so this is a difference as I
included music in mine and another similarity is both games contain sound effects My game was
fairly simple to create it just took a bit of time to draw out the characters, clouds and the
background for my game. The other game “Pumping Irn” is very similar to the other irn bru game
as they have the same character used within the two and they’re wearing the game. It is also much
different to my irn bru game as again my game has a complete different concept to this. I did like
the idea of having power-ups in both the real games and if I got the chance to do this again I
definitely would include a power-up in my irn bru advergame. Also if I had more time to do this
again I would like to experiment more with sound effects and background music and possibly make
my own

Irn bru evaluation

  • 2. Real Video This advert starts off with a guy sat in his chair however the camera is focused on a picture frame of him and someone else and this relates to the national approach and how proud he is of his country. They also include some Scottish background music throughout the advert. It then goes to a girl bringing home her new boyfriend and introduces him to her dad whilst her dad is reading a magazine “Scottish Stuff” and when her boyfriend Jeff introduces himself to her dad he has an English accent which makes her dad have to take a drink of Irn Bru so he can calm down and talk to him. Her boyfriend then takes off his jacket and is wearing a England football t-shirt which has the year 1966 on it which is when England won the world cup and the camera angle is a close up of the badge which says 66 on it and this again makes the dad take another sip of irn bru and to finish it off the dad asks if they have any plans and when he says he’s gong to take his dog Wembley for a walk and the dog is wearing an England dog jacket and then the dog farts on the carpet of the Scottish flag and he has to have a final sip of irn bru then the adverts goes a still of irn bru cans and a photo frame of the daughter and her dad which says “irn bru gets you through” The advert is trying to advertise the drink by using comedy and this is effective as its different to other adverterts and it sticks in your brain. This advert is effective because its funny as you see the girls dad who is so proud to be Scottish as we can see straight away as soon as the advert starts with the picture frame whilst he’s reading his magazine and the girls boyfriend is very proud to be English as he’s wearing an England football shirt and calls his dog Wembley and then you can tell by the fathers facial expression that he was expecting her to have a Scottish boyfriend so this comes to a shock to him so therefore he needs some Irn Bru
  • 3. My Video My video starts off by two people waking one they bump into each other and he says “what your doing nerd” then a ginger Scottish man wearing a kilt asks if Kian if he wants an irn bru and once he drinks it he be becomes powerful then he goes to smack jack in the face. In my video I use a sound effect of the two knocking into each other and then I used a woosh sound effect for when the guy in the kilt comes and gives Kian an irn bru. We also used comedy in our advert which is our way to advertise the brand to our audience. We filmed our advert on a canon 600d and edited the video using adobe premiere pro. We included a close up shot but mainly used the medium shots within our advert as this worked effective as the audience could see everything that was In shot. In the process of editing the advert there wasn’t any advanced editing techniques as I didn’t really include any special effects or color correction it was mainly just cutting the clips so the went smoothly together and adjusting the audio as well as including sound effects so that it went smoothly together. To try and make the audience buy the product this is done by the comedic element as well as the end screen of irn bru so that it sticks into the audiences head so they remember the product. My advert is in linear structure and if I was to do this again I would chose to do it non-linear.
  • 4. Real Advergame The real advergame “Toss The Girder” is a game where you need to toss the girder and collect irn bru cans to get more throws. The guy tossing the girder is wearing a kilt in the irn bru color scheme and is als wearing a blue t-shirt which links in to the irn bru color scheme. The game has a irn bru can at the top of the screen to count how many irn bru cans you have left after you’ve used them it also has a orange pause button which also links in with the irn bru color scheme. The fact of persuasion is having the irn bru cans to collect so you can keep the Girder in the air and get a higher score. The girder links in to irn bru because irn bru is “made in Scotland by girders” The game is addictive and fun to play which helps them with advertising because the audience wouldn’t want to play a boring game. They have another advergame called “Pumping Irn” where you have to hit the arrow key to pump the irn cans up and you have to see how many. They advertise irn bru by the cans that he’s lifting and another way is by having the background of the games relating to Scotland by having mountains. The man in the game is also wearing a kilt which also suggests he’s Scottish and the kilt is in the color scheme of the irn bru brand. All this links into the stereo type of Scottish people loving there country so much however in this case the scottish guy loves irn bru so much that he feels the need to wear an irn bru themed kilt
  • 5. My Advergame My advergame was put together on Photoshop by using frame animation and designed all the characters and animation and everything in Photoshop as well. The game object of the game is that you have to collect the irn bru cans and jump on the ledges so you don’t fall and die however the obstacles to avoid are the other brands drinks and I chose to collect the irn bru drinks to advertise the brand and the repetition of collecting these drinks will stick into the audiences head and they will remember the brand. Another way I've persuaded the audience to buy the drinks and to advertise the brand is I've used the irn bru colors scheme for my game so the colors will stick in the audiences head and next time they see these colors they’ll instantly think of irn bru. My advergame is a mobile game so that it is convenient to my market audience and this game can be played anywhere at anytime. If I was to also do this I would include a level at the end where the character needs to defeat the monster and the irn bru would help the character power up to defeat the monster. This would also help advertisement because it suggests that irn bru makes you powerful. In my game there was a coca cola can and this was an obstacle to avoid and if my character got this he would enter some dark world and the only way to save him would be to collect more irn bru cans and get enough so he goes to irn bru heaven
  • 6. Video Comparison My advert was made very differently compared to the irn bru advert as we didn’t have the resources that they had or the time that we had however a similarity is that at the end of the advert they both end with a still shot with the product and logo to advertise irn bru. Another similarity from the real irn bru advert and mine is that the irn bru helps the men not to be stressed out and in my advert it helps him gain confidence. My video contains mainly of medium shots unlike the real video which contains a range of short from over the shoulder shot to close up shots. Both of these adverts are linear structures. Another difference is that the real video is set inside someone's house and mine is set outside a college. Another difference is that the two adverts have complete different storylines as the real advert is about a girl introducing her English boyfriend to her very proud Scottish dad. If I did this advert again I would include different camera angles and use different shots and I also would include some more advanced editing skills such as when the guy in the kilt appears I would include a smooth transition and make the advert more interesting to watch and if I had more time I would try and include more people in the advert. I think a weakness of our advert is that we only used one camera shot and a strength would be at the end of the advert it includes smooth transitions. Our advert was pretty simple to edit however we did have to re-record all the audio so that I could be heard clearly then had to record some background noise again so we could put this over the audio and sound effect.
  • 7. Advergame Comparison Some similarities between me advergame and is that they both have a similar color scheme of blue and orange. Another similarity is that on both you need to collect the irn bru cans. One main difference is the real game is a game for computer and pc unlike my game which is made for smartphones and tablets. My game is very simple compared to the real advergame and this was made in Photoshop using frame animation. If I had more time I would of liked to add more levels and include more objects to make the game harder. I would also include some power ups where if you collect a certain amount of irn bru then you would get a power up which entitles you to gain more points. I would also of liked to add a score count in the top corner if I had more time to do so. Another difference is my game includes different brands such as coca cola unlike the real advergame also the realadvergame doesn’t include background music so this is a difference as I included music in mine and another similarity is both games contain sound effects My game was fairly simple to create it just took a bit of time to draw out the characters, clouds and the background for my game. The other game “Pumping Irn” is very similar to the other irn bru game as they have the same character used within the two and they’re wearing the game. It is also much different to my irn bru game as again my game has a complete different concept to this. I did like the idea of having power-ups in both the real games and if I got the chance to do this again I definitely would include a power-up in my irn bru advergame. Also if I had more time to do this again I would like to experiment more with sound effects and background music and possibly make my own
