This document describes the design and development of a semi-automatic surface finishing machine for ceramic sleeves. The machine uses a grinding wheel driven by a motor to grind the ceramic sleeves. The sleeves are mounted on a motorized shaft on a movable platform controlled by a pneumatic cylinder. Except for loading and unloading sleeves, the process is automated via an electronic control panel. The key components of the machine - the grinding wheel, pneumatic cylinder, proximity sensor, bearings, solenoid valve and control panel - are selected based on the design requirements. The workpiece shaft, motor base plate, vibration isolators and table are also designed to meet the needs of automating the ceramic sleeve finishing process.
