This document analyzes the use of base isolation techniques to earthquake-proof a building. It compares a conventional 6-story building design to one using lead rubber bearings between the structure and its foundation. The base isolated building showed reduced displacement, acceleration, and storey shear compared to the conventional design when subjected to earthquake analysis software. Base isolation is an effective method to reduce earthquake forces on structures by allowing the foundation to move independently of the isolated superstructure.
