This document describes a communication aid system for deaf and mute people that translates sign language gestures to text and speech. The system uses a glove with flex sensors that detect hand gestures. When a gesture is made, the sensors produce a signal that is matched to stored gesture inputs to translate letters, words, and sentences to speech and text. This helps remove communication barriers for the deaf by allowing them to convey meanings through gestures that are automatically translated. The system aims to bridge the gap between those who can hear and those with speech and hearing impairments.

Abstract
Sign Language Recognition System is one of the important researches today in engineering field. Number of methods are been developed recently in the field of Sign Language Recognition for deaf and dumb people. It is very useful to the deaf and dumb people to convey their message to other people. In this paper we proposed some methods, through which the recognition of the signs becomes easy for peoples while communication. We use the different symbols of signs to convey the meanings. And the result of those symbols signs will be converted into the text. In this project, we are capturing hand gestures through webcam and convert this image into gray scale image. The segmentation of gray scale image of a hand gesture is performed using Otsu thresholding algorithm.. Total image level is divided into two classes one is hand and other is background. The optimal threshold value is determined by computing the ratio between class variance and total class variance. To find the boundary of hand gesture in image Canny edge detection technique is used.

each other for different using various languages. Machine translation is highly demanding due to increasing the usage of web
based Communication. One of the major problem of Bengali translation is identified a naming word from a sentence, which is
relatively simple in English language, because such entities start with a capital letter. In Bangla we do not have concept of small
or capital letters and there is huge no. of different naming entity available in Bangla. Thus we find difficulties in understanding
whether a word is a proper noun or not. Here we have introduce a new approach to identify proper noun from a Bengali sentence
for UNL without storing huge no. of naming entity in word dictionary. The goal is to make possible Bangla sentence conversion
to UNL and vice versa with minimal storing word in dictionary.
These slides are basically showing how to proceed in the area of Automatic Speech Recognition. I had implemented this whole project using simulation on JFLAP software.

In this paper, phoneme sequences are used as language information to perform code-switched language
identification (LID). With the one-pass recognition system, the spoken sounds are converted into
phonetically arranged sequences of sounds. The acoustic models are robust enough to handle multiple
languages when emulating multiple hidden Markov models (HMMs). To determine the phoneme similarity
among our target languages, we reported two methods of phoneme mapping. Statistical phoneme-based
bigram language models (LM) are integrated into speech decoding to eliminate possible phone
mismatches. The supervised support vector machine (SVM) is used to learn to recognize the phonetic
information of mixed-language speech based on recognized phone sequences. As the back-end decision is
taken by an SVM, the likelihood scores of segments with monolingual phone occurrence are used to
classify language identity. The speech corpus was tested on Sepedi and English languages that are often
mixed. Our system is evaluated by measuring both the ASR performance and the LID performance
separately. The systems have obtained a promising ASR accuracy with data-driven phone merging
approach modelled using 16 Gaussian mixtures per state. In code-switched speech and monolingual
speech segments respectively, the proposed systems achieved an acceptable ASR and LID accuracy.

Digital voice over is a social project aimed at improving the ability of speaking and hearing by enabling people to communicate better with the public. There are approximately 9.1 billion deaf and hard of hearing people worldwide. They encounter many problems while trying to communicate with the society in daily life. Deaf and speech impaired people often use language to communicate but have difficulty communicating with people who do not understand the language. While a hearing-impaired individual depends on sign language and gestures, non-hearing-impaired person uses verbal language. Thus, there is need for means of arbitration to forestall situation when a non-hearing-impaired individual who does not understand the sign language wants to communicate with a hearing-impaired person. This paper is concerned with the development of a PC-based sign language translator to facilitate effective communication between hearing-impaired and non-hearing-impaired persons. Database of hand gestures in American sign language (ASL) is created using Python scripts. TensorFlow (TF) is used in the creation of a pipeline configuration model for machine learning of annotated images of gestures in the database with the real time gestures. The implementation is done in Python software environment and it runs on a PC equipped with a web camera to capture real time gestures for comparison and interpretations. The developed sign language translator is able to translate ASL/gestures to written texts along with corresponding audio renderings at an average duration of about one second. In addition, the translator is able to match real time gestures with the equivalent gesture images stored in the database even at 44% similarity.
Automatic recognition of Arabic alphabets sign language using deep learningIJECEIAES
Technological advancements are helping people with special needs overcome many communications’ obstacles. Deep learning and computer vision models are innovative leaps nowadays in facilitating unprecedented tasks in human interactions. The Arabic language is always a rich research area. In this paper, different deep learning models were applied to test the accuracy and efficiency obtained in automatic Arabic sign language recognition. In this paper, we provide a novel framework for the automatic detection of Arabic sign language, based on transfer learning applied on popular deep learning models for image processing. Specifically, by training AlexNet, VGGNet and GoogleNet/Inception models, along with testing the efficiency of shallow learning approaches based on support vector machine (SVM) and nearest neighbors algorithms as baselines. As a result, we propose a novel approach for the automatic recognition of Arabic alphabets in sign language based on VGGNet architecture which outperformed the other trained models. The proposed model is set to present promising results in recognizing Arabic sign language with an accuracy score of 97%. The suggested models are tested against a recent fully-labeled dataset of Arabic sign language images. The dataset contains 54,049 images, which is considered the first large and comprehensive real dataset of Arabic sign language to the furthest we know.
A SIGNATURE BASED DRAVIDIAN SIGN LANGUAGE RECOGNITION BY SPARSE REPRESENTATIONijnlc
Sign language is a visual-gestural language used by deaf-dumb people for communication. As normal people are unfamiliar of sign language, the hearing-impaired people find it difficult to communicate with them. The communication gap between the normal and the deaf-dumb people can be bridged by means of Human–Computer Interaction. The objective of this paper is to convert the Dravidian (Tamil) sign language into text. The proposed method recognizes 12 vowels, 18 consonants and a special character “Aytham” of Tamil language by a vision based approach. In this work, the static images of the hand signs are obtained a web/digital camera. The hand region is segmented by a threshold applied to the hue channel of the input image. Then the region of interest (i.e. from wrist to fingers) is segmented using the reversed horizontal projection profile and the Discrete Cosine transformed signature is extracted from the boundary of hand sign. These features are invariant to translation, scale and rotation. Sparse representation classifier is incorporated to recognize 31 hand signs. The proposed method has attained a maximum recognition accuracy of 71% in a uniform background.
Application for Iraqi sign language translation on Android system IJECEIAES
Deaf people suffer from difficulty in social communication, especially those who have been denied the blessing of hearing before the acquisition of spoken language and before learning to read and write. For the purpose of employing mobile devices for the benefit of these people, their teachers and everyone who has contact with them, this research aims to design an application for social communication and learning by translating Iraqi sign language into text in Arabic and vice versa. Iraqi sign language has been chosen because of a lack of applications for this field. The current research, to the best of our knowledge, is the first of its kind in Iraq. The application is open source; words that are not found in the application database can be processed by translating them into letters alphabetically. The importance of the application lies in the fact that it is a means of communication and e-learning through Iraqi sign language, reading and writing in Arabic. Similarly, it is regarded as a means of social communication between deaf people and those with normal hearing. This application is designed by using JAVA language and it was tested on several deaf students at Al-Amal Institute for Special Needs Care in Mosul, Iraq. It was well comprehended and accepted.

Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
