Municipal solid waste (MSW) analysis in Kolkata indicates a presence of a high percentage of biodegradable organic matter (82%), acceptable moisture content (42%) and C/N ratio (32). These parameters are suitable for windrow composting. Because optimum moisture content for windrow composting is in the range of 40-50%. Windrow composting is a process that reduces the volume of the waste and produces a crumbly earthy smelling soil-like compost material. In the proposed scheme, we improve the quality of the compost material using selected organic material from the collected waste. In the practical implementation phased of proposed scheme, it has found all the quality parameters in compost samples within the acceptable limits set by international standard. The pH ranged between 6.7-8.2, organic matter 48%, moisture 23.02% and have an acceptable amount of plant nutrients C (16.03%), H (0.44%), N (1.26%), O2 (1.3%), P (0.89%) and K (1.23%). The result would play an extremely important role in substantially reducing the burden of waste disposal, saving soil resources, controlling leachate and achieving malodorous gas reduction. Besides, it could also increase organic fertilizers in place of some chemical fertilizers and protect water resources.

Sub critical water as a green solvent for production of valuable materialsGJESM Publication
Agricultural waste biomass generated from agricultural production and food processing industry are abundant, such as durian peel, mango peel, corn straw, rice bran, corn shell, potato peel and many more. Due to low commercial value, these wastes are disposed in landfill, which if not managed properly may cause environmental problems. Currently, environmental laws and regulations pertaining to the pollution from agricultural waste streams by regulatory agencies are stringent and hence the application of toxic solvents during processing has become public concern. Recent development in valuable materials extraction from the decomposition of agricultural waste by sub-critical water treatment from the published literature was review. Physico-chemical characteristic (reaction temperature, reaction time and solid to liquid ratio) of the sub-critical water affecting its yield were also reviewed. The utilization of biomass residue from agriculture, forest wood production and from food and feed processing industry may be an important alternative renewable energy supply. The paper also presents future research on sub-critical water.

Utilization of pre aerated sludge in activated sludge processeSAT Journals
Abstract The research was carried out with Pre aerated Sludge in Activated Sludge Process to observe the effect of Pre-aerated Sludge on BOD, COD , Phosphate, Nitrate, MLVSS mainly in treatment of dairy wastewater. The experimental process involves the conventional Activated Sludge Process (ASP) in which microorganisms are kept in suspension by mixing and aerating the wastewater. The study is to be conducted by following two methods: 1) utilizing non pre-aerated sludge and 2) utilizing pre-aerated sludge. In the first method the dairy wastewater measuring five liters and 400 ml of non-pre-aerated sludge is filled in the aeration tank and was aerated in the aeration tank where air (or oxygen) was supplied for regular intervals of 30, 60, 90, 120 minutes respectively and samples are collected before aeration and at regular intervals. In the second method the dairy wastewater measuring five liters and 400 ml of pre aerated sludge (with 20, 40 and 60 minutes pre-aeration) are filled in aeration tank. This tank is aerated for regular intervals of 30, 60, 90, 120 minutes respectively. The samples are collected before aeration and at regular time intervals. The sludge is to be not recycled to the aeration tank. Testing of different parameters like BOD, COD, Phosphate, Nitrate and Mixed liquor volatile suspended solids was carried out on the samples aerated with different aeration time, with and without pre-aerated sludge and consequent results are to be found. By utilization of pre-aerated sludge, the concentrations of various parameters to be considered for study are to be found decreased when compared with the values of concentration without using pre-aerated sludge. It will be very clear that removal of various parameters from wastewater is effective up to the optimum period for pre-aeration beyond this period removal of various parameters from wastewater will not be effective. Keywords: Activated Sludge Process, BOD, COD, Phosphate, Nitrate, MLVSS.
Design and Modification of Compost Bin with a Chopper for 3R (Reduce, Reuse, ...Open Access Research Paper
Composting is an effective method of managing organic waste from decomposition by microorganisms. This research using composting technique with a modification compost bin with additional chopper on the top of the bin. The composter was designed using an HDPE drum with a height of 100 cm and a diameter of 50 cm with the addition of a chopper and a manual compost mixer as well as a lower cross-section. This research aimed to calculate the amount and composition of waste in TPS 3R Sekumpul and to design modification of a compost bin to handle the problem of organic waste in TPS 3R Sekumpul. The average waste generation in TPS 3R Sekumpul is 66,875 kg/day with the composition of the waste generated including compostable (organic) at 4.28%, resaleable waste at 93.85%, and residual waste at 1.87%. The manual chopper is designed with 7 blades with a slope of 45° which are placed on an iron plate connected to a handle to rotate the chopper. The rotate is in the form of a spiral attached to the rotate handle and connected to the drum cover and the bottom section is a rectangular metal structure having 4 wheels on each side. All of the tools that are designed and made can work smoothly without being constrained during the testing of the tool. The composter drum can accommodate up to 25 kg of compost and leachate in the lower part of the compost bin partition. Assessment of the performance of the compost bin with a chopper is seen from the results of the chopped organic waste produced from the chopper. In the knife chopper test using 5 kg of organic waste, the chopped waste results were obtained with an average size is between 0.5 cm – 1 cm. Compost bin with chopper are designed so that they are easy to operate for households and regional scales. It is expected that the use of the compost bin can facilitate the user so that compost is produced with good quality, large quantity and fast composting time.

Biogas production potential from municipalorganic wastes in dhaka city, bangl...eSAT Journals
Abstract
This study aimed at assessing the biogas production potential from municipal organic wastes and conversion of biogas to electric energy for Dhaka, Bangladesh. The generation of solid waste and demand for energy is increasing simultaneously in Dhaka city due to the rapid growth of population and industrialization. As a source of renewable energy using of municipal organic waste should be encouraged to save the environment from harmful GHG as well as to minimize the energy deficiency. Among the various biogas production technologies, anaerobic digestion is one of the promising and environmental friendly technology for treating organic waste. In Dhaka city, there are huge potential to produce biogas from municipal waste because the volume of solid waste of this city is 4000-5000 ton/day with composition of ¾ percentage organic waste. Bio-waste (food waste) was used as feedstock for anaerobic digestion process. Two inoculums-sewage sludge and digested maize silage were used with organic waste. About 0.57 m3/kgODM of biogas and 0.22 m3/kgODM methane was produce from the anaerobic digestion (AD) of a mixture of bio waste and digested maize silage. Consequently, 0.094 m3/kgODM of biogas and 0.043 m3/kgODM methane was generated from the fermentation of bio waste with sewage sludge. Biogas-to-electricity potential was found to be 83.66 MW based on the lower value of 0.094 m3/kgODM volume biogas produced, which accounts for about 3.8% of the present demand of Dhaka city.

Sequential anaerobic and aerobic treatment of pulp and paper mill efluenteSAT Journals
Abstract Paper mill is one of the major sources of pollution causing industry with intensely coloured effluent. The effluent is rich in lignocellulosic materials and other chemicals used during manufacturing which results in high Bio-chemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD). Due to its high toxic and mutagenic nature when discharged untreated there is a growing demand to treat the effluent before discharge. Biological treatment is a promising technique as it greatly reduces colour, BOD and COD. Various fungal and bacterial species are capable of degrading the lignocellulosic materials present in the effluent. In the present study characterization of the paper mill effluent and identification of the degradation efficiency of lignin degrading fungal species - Pleurotus species and Rhizopus stolonifer and bacterial species – Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacillus subtilis in laboratory scale was done. Here sequential anaerobic and aerobic treatment was carried out in two bio-reactors in series. The study indicated that anaerobic treatment gave a reduction of colour (18%), lignin (25%), COD (36%), BOD (28%) in 5days. The anaerobically treated effluent was then separately given to the aerobic reactors containing the fungal and bacterial species. Data obtained indicated that the Rhizopus showed good reduction in colour (71%), lignin (77%), COD (68%) and BOD (70%) in 5days whereas Pleurotus, Pseudomonas and Bacillus species showed reduction in colour (68%, 31%, 18%), lignin (64%, 43%, 44%), COD (58%, 42%, 43%) and BOD (60%, 40%, 42%) respectively in 5days. Thus Rhizopus was identified as the microbe with better degradation capacity. Key Words: Pulp and paper mill effluent1, Lignin, Anaerobic treatment, Rhizopus stolonifer.
Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.
Hierarchical Digital Twin of a Naval Power SystemKerry Sado
A hierarchical digital twin of a Naval DC power system has been developed and experimentally verified. Similar to other state-of-the-art digital twins, this technology creates a digital replica of the physical system executed in real-time or faster, which can modify hardware controls. However, its advantage stems from distributing computational efforts by utilizing a hierarchical structure composed of lower-level digital twin blocks and a higher-level system digital twin. Each digital twin block is associated with a physical subsystem of the hardware and communicates with a singular system digital twin, which creates a system-level response. By extracting information from each level of the hierarchy, power system controls of the hardware were reconfigured autonomously. This hierarchical digital twin development offers several advantages over other digital twins, particularly in the field of naval power systems. The hierarchical structure allows for greater computational efficiency and scalability while the ability to autonomously reconfigure hardware controls offers increased flexibility and responsiveness. The hierarchical decomposition and models utilized were well aligned with the physical twin, as indicated by the maximum deviations between the developed digital twin hierarchy and the hardware.
