A New List Of Sustainable Development Goals
On September 25th, the UN officially announced a new list of Sustainable Development
Goals(SDG s) that would replace the previous Millennium Development Goals (MDG s) that
would expire in 2015. Among the list of SDG s released by the UN, was one in particular, goal
number 14, which stated, in relation to Oceans, the aim to Conserve and sustainably use the
oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development. In addition to setting the goal
previously mentioned, the UN also set out a list of targets in order to evaluate the set goals. 14.1)
According to a recent article by Dong Chen, Paul Szostak, Zongsu Wei, and Ruiyang Xiao, there
have been significant eutrophication issues as a result of nutrient runoffs from farmlands into
natural water bodies, such as lakes, rivers, streams, etc. The nutrients, such as Phosphorus, that
runoff from the farmlands into the water bodies act as a limiting agent for the growth of algae. In
other words, they prevent the algae from growing, and as a result, affect the whole ecosystem of
that water body. In an article published in Sensors Journal, in June 2015, Underwater wireless
sensor networks (UWSNs) were announced as possible means of detecting and observing aquatic
environments. According to this article, these sensors would be used in a variety of ways, namely
to monitor pollution, prevent disasters from occurring, or assisted navigation and to send monitored
data to the sink. However, we do not need to wait until the

My Soccer Experience
The first soccer match I can recall watching was on a black, chunky TV screen back in my
motherland, Laos. My astonishment was real. I watched in awe as the players dribbled the ball,
sprinted through the green field, and nutmegged their opponent to attempt to find the back of
the net. I was fascinated by the pace of the game and the excitement from the stadium when a
goal was scored. Since then, I would plead with my parent to take me to my cousin s home in the
capital city every Sunday to watch a match. My adoration for the game declined after
immigrating to the United States, but I fell in love again during high school. What sprouted my
interest in this sport? I have not gotten a clue. It wasn t like my brother, cousin, or uncle played
it. My family had no connection to the sport at all. This memory is particular to an incredibly
meaningful event that happened recently in the summer of 2017. I attended an El Clasico
match between world renowned Spanish clubs Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. I am a supporter
of the most royal soccer club in the world, Real Madrid. You don t just declare that you are a fan
of a team the very next day or because they won a certain match. It takes understanding, time,
knowledge, and passion for the game. This feeling is hard to put into words like certain things in
life that make you happy, but you don t know exactly why. It could be that I have grown to cherish
this team because they played in the first game I had ever seen. Real Madrid

Cyrano De Bergerac Character Analysis
In the play, Cyrano de Bergerac, by Edmond Rostant, there are many characters in the book; but
our focus is on Cyrano de Bergerac. His admirability lies in his willingness to please others. It may
be because he is very self conscious, so he thinks that no one will ever like let alone love him. In
the play, Cyrano is in lovewith his cousin, Roxane. But Roxane is in love with Christian, and
Christian Roxane. Cyrano ends up setting Christian up with Roxane, while Cyrano writes all the
romantic lines for Christian to woo Roxane (Christian is terrible at love poems). Christian gets
married to Roxane right before the men have to leave for war. Days later, Roxane comes to the
war camp, and the same day Christian finds out that Cyrano also loves Roxane.

Changes In Metropolitan Statistical Area
Census data from the last 2 Censuses reveal population migration patterns through changes in
Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSAs) populations. The data shows that certain metropolitan areas
are growing while others are declining. Many Southern cities and Western cities are rapidly rising
in population as economic industries settle and family friendly conditions allow innovation and
education to thrive. One strong example of this is the Raleigh Cary MSA, in North Carolina, which
has experienced rapid growth in recent decades from increased economic dominance in government
and education sector. New Orleans is an extreme exception for these regions, with the population
being greatly reduced because of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Cleveland and

How Do Tattoos Affect The Health Care Industry
There has been a recent issue with people smoking and having tattoos in the Health Care
industry. 76% of employees believe tattoos hurt your chances of getting a job interview. Many
people oppose both smoking and tattoos. People are saying if you have tattoos or if you smoke,
you should not even apply. I disagree with this. A job should not be denied to someone just
because of the ink present on their skin or what they put inside of their body. Over the past couple
of decades, tattoos have become very popular. The popularity of tattoos has grown 13% since 2007
and it continues to rise. The percentage of tattooed adults in the United States is 42%. With the rise
and popularity of tattoos, health care professionals should be a lot more lenient

Examples Of Corruption In Animal Farm
To run a successful society, citizens need rules to abide and a higher arcing power to supply such
rules. Enter, the government. Now, government can be good, bad, helpful, unaccommodating, and
in some cases, downright ridiculous. Animal Farm however, is a case of a government being
corrupt and unfair to the governed, and using its powerin an unchecked fashion. The leadership in
the Animal Farm is quickly corrupted into a hardcore dictatorship in a variety of ways, such as the
lack of knowledge throughout the whole body of citizens, the abuse of power from a superior
group, and no opposition to the ruling state.
Ever since the rebellion and over throwing of humans of manor farm, there was a natural and
apparently obvious group that could lead the rest of the animals: the pigs. The pigs constantly
battered into the minds of the other animals that pigs were of high intelligence and were an
indisputable choice for the managers of the farm. From the start, the animals were lead to believe
themselves as stupid and inferior to pigs. This may be true in learning as the pigs were the fastest
to learn new abilities such as reading and writing, but with enough time and effort they could have
taught the whole farm the necessary skills. A non intelligent main body of citizens is where the
problems start to form, as this class is now easily manipulated into believing almost anything, the
first sign of a dictatorship.
As stated before, the pigs quickly rose to the position of leaders due to the persuasion that pigs
were the most intelligent. Well what now? Having this basis of knowledge spread throughout the
whole farm, The two main leaders, Snowball and Napoleon, are allowed to start making
decisions for their own gains. It started off fine, and honestly most of the new rules and what not
were for the benefit of the entire farm. However, once Snowball was out of the picture (which we
will talk about later), Napoleon has no opposition to keep him in check. He starts breaking the
Animal Farm s constitution aka the seven commandments, and with an illiterate group of followers
and a pack of bloodthirsty dogs, he starts to get away with it! He makes such outlandish settlements
such as the extra rations for pigs, or

Mexican American War Manifest Destiny
During the late 1840s the Mexican American War took place. The war started with the U.S
annexation of Republic of Texas and was the result of a dispute over where the Mexican
American border should be. President James K. Polk, who believed the United States had
manifest destiny to spread across the continent to the Pacific Ocean, ordered U.S. troops into an
area between the Nueces River and the Rio Grande, a region that was claimed by both Mexicoand
Texas, openly antagonizing Mexico. The purpose of this paper is to provide a general overview
and analysis of how the Mexican American War contributed to Manifest Destiny. The region of
Texas, which was originally a part of Mexico, declared independence as a nation in the year 1836.
Mexico was primarily a territory of Spain, and the American settlers sought permission from Spain
to develop land within the region of Texas. When Mexico became independent from Spain, the
arrangements were conducted with the government of Mexico; however, this quickly caused a
serious conflict, as the Americans in the region of Texas began to outnumber the native Mexicans in
the region. When the number of Mexican immigrants increased, the situation escalated into military
conflicts causing the famous Battle of Alamo, which the U.S claimed victory. Two major figures
involved in this conflict included Stephen F. Austin, a young immigrant from Missouri, and Sam
Houston, after whom major cities within present day Texas are named

What is a GMO (genetically modified organism)? A GMO is an organism whose DNA has been
changed by genetic engineering. Many companies today use GMOs in their products. The
purpose of this is so companies can save money and make their products cheaper. They are used
in every state in the U.S. today. Recently, a law was enforced in Vermont to force companies to

The Battle Of Gettysburg Battle Analysis
Battle of Gettysburg Battle Analysis It is our duty, as soon to be Second Lieutenants in the Army,
to learn from history. Learning from mistakes in the past is necessary to understand the
responsibilities we will soon have. The Battle of Gettysburg shows prime examples of the nine
principles of war: Objective, Offensive, Mass, Economy of Force, Maneuver, Unity of Command,
Security, Surprise and Simplicity. In the militarytoday, we are overwhelmingly blessed with every
asset that we have including technology and monetary resources the list could go on forever but
the most invaluable asset is history. Although all nine principles of war are pertinent to success on
the battlefield, only five will be discussed in this analysis.
Objective
What a cruel thing is war; to separate and destroy families and friends, and mar the purest joys
and happiness God has granted us in this world; to fill our hearts with hatred instead of love for
our neighbours, and to devastate the fair face of this beautiful world! I pray that, on this day
when only peace and good will are preached to mankind, better thoughts may fill the hearts of our
enemies and turn them to peace. ... My heart bleeds at the death of every one of our gallant men.
(General Robert E. Lee. 1862) General Robert E. Lee, as renowned as he is for his tactfulness in
wartime, resents war in its entire capacity. That didn t put a strain on his attempt to lead the

The mysterious, magical world of thoughts can be interesting to try to untangle. The mind s
subconscious is strange, enigmatic, and perplexing. It creates beautiful but also frightening realms
of fantasy; dreams. For decades, scientists have been attempting to discover all the intricate details
that pertain to dreams and their meaning. Dreaming is composed of many different aspects.
Anything and everything has to be taken into consideration when analyzing dreams. This is
because almost anything can affect a dream. No one quite understands it to a full extent, however,
scientists continue to study dreams and research what affects them. There is much depth about the
way life influences dreams.

One way to have revieve good, quality sleep is to have a sleep routine. A tactic some use to
ensure interrupted sleep is having a constant background noise. For example, soothing noises
often times create a peaceful atmosphere during times of rest. White noises and pink noises are
a great way to calm the body down each night ( White, Pink, or Brown: Which Noise Helps You

Others prefer white noise, ie. a fan blowing. A writer, Jessica Gross said in her article that when
the body shuts down at night, hearing is still active ( 6 Things That Influence Your Dreams ). At
certain times, a sound can be incorporated into a dream. This is not a common occurrence;
however, for this to happen, the sound must be adequate volume, so it will not interrupt the phase
of sleep ( White, Pink, or Brown: Which Noise Helps You Sleep Better? ). Normally, a sleeping

1970 s. This movement was a feminist effort aimed at gaining equality for women at home, in the

the professions, stereotypes, roles, and the status of women in culture. The source of women s
oppression stemmed from sexuality/ sexual orientation, racial oppression, capitalism, socio

Schlafly believes that as a mother, it is your job to honor the title of a mother, and put your child
/children s needs ahead of your own. As a wife, you must respect your commitment to your
husband and do the best you can to help and take care of your family. The feminist movement is
steering women away from that, and gives women the idea that their self sacrificing role of
taking care of and dedicating their lives to their children is less important then becoming equal to
men and living in focus of you. The women s liberation is causing wives and mothers with good
families to walk out, in order to chase their self fulfillment. Women no longer want to be burdened
with the obligation to take care of a family and raise children, instilling their values into them so
they grow up to be strong and positive people in society. Feminism is giving women the idea that
they are second class citizens, and they must fight men, their enemy, for the oppression that they

Moral Compass
There is a difference between having a good or strong moral compass and being a good person.
No matter how much you believe in justice or equality or anything else, as long as you don t
actively follow that compass, you can t honestly call yourself a good person. In fact, that might
even make you worse; you know something is wrong but you do it anyway. On one hand, I like to
think that I believe in truth, justice and the equality of all Gods children, but in reality, even if I do
believe this, I don t change my actions to fit my own code.
Lying has always been something that goes against my moral code. While it s not necessarily the
utmost condemnable thing a person can do, it is a more accessible evil. Most people I know don t
commit murder or other grand crimes, but I d venture to say most people I know lie. Ever since I
was young, I always felt that lying was so deeply wrong, purposefully deceiving the people around

What Is The Role Of The Press Or Incarceration In La...
Dominating the new technology and maneuvering the lines of freedom of press and censorship,
champion print satirist and publisher Charles Philipon brought the government to its knees with
his caricatures resembling King Louis Phillipe. In addition, as the leader of the French satirical
press with his journals, La Caricature and of Le Charivari, Charles Philipon set the precedent of
the political and social tone of the press in France throughout the July Monarchy. Le Charivari was
Philipon s weekly illustrated magazine that was published for nearly ninety five years beginning in
1932. After the establishment of hefty fines, Philipon decided to produce social commentary. On

During the first five years of the July Monarchy, fines and the chance of incarceration plagued the
press, however, according to Gabriel Weisberg in the article, The Coded Image: Agitation in
Caricature, the government reached its breaking point in 1935. He stated that they reacted by
restricting the freedom on the press, which had been bitterly won in the Revolution of 1830,
through the institution of censorship control invoked by the September Laws . These laws
regulated the press and banned all criticism of King Louis Phillipe and constitutional monarchy.
Although Charles Philipon and HonorГ© Daumier were not the sole components of the censorship,
for hundreds of talented satirists flooded France with political commentary, Philipon and Daumier s
work was exponentially influential to kindling ideas of discontent that were potent to the monarchy.
Despite the artist s initial disregard of imposed fines and police confiscation, the implication of
significant punishment, artists were forced to be extremely careful about their themes . As a result,
satire began to move away from its traditional political nature and began lampooning issues
regarding social classes. With the help of Philipon s Soap Bubbles, The Replastering, and Les
Poires and Daumier s Gargantua, the reception and distribution of the political satire and caricature
during the July Monarchy was blacklisted from popular culture. Fast forward less than two
centuries, although Louis Phillipe and the July Monarchy attempted to distinguish political satire
and caricatures for good, cartoonists throughout the world continue to rival against their

Middle Eastern Legends are stories that have been made up, they are about people and their
actions or deeds. These people have lived in more recent times and have been mentioned in
history. Some other characteristics of legends include exaggerated characters and events, focuses

questions about how the natural world works and how we should treat each other. These stories
are usually set a long time ago, before history as we know was written. They also often use magic

Eutrophication is defined as the natural ageing process of natural body of water, generally
understood to refer to enrichment of water systems by nutrients, notably phosphorus and nitrogen,
and to the improved production of algal and higher plant biomass that the added nutrient loads
stimulate (Reynolds, 1992). Customarily, the eutrophication is a natural phenomenon, but during
the past decades, the word eutrophication has been frequently used to signify the artificial and
unwanted addition of plant nutrients to waterbodies (Ryding Rast, 1989). Eutrophication is a
process whereby water bodies, such as lakes, estuaries, or slow moving streams receive extra
nutrients that stimulate unnecessary plant growth (periphyton attached algae, algae, and nuisance
plants weeds). This boosted plant growth, regularly called an algal bloom, reduces dissolved
oxygen in the water when dead plant material decays and can frequently cause other water biota
(fish in particular) to perish. Nutrients can come from many sources, such as: fertilizers applied to
agricultural fields, suburban lawns, and deposition of nitrogen from the atmosphere, erosion of soil
containing nutrients and sewage treatment plant discharges. In the simplest definition,
Eutrophication is the decreasing of the water quality within a body of water (Henry, 1993).

Consolidation already drives many farmers out of business and restricts many from even
entering the market. Although many farms in the US are small, most food produced and
consumed in the U.S. is produced by relatively very few farms. In 2012, a small 4 percent of
farms produced 66 percent of all our food. Combine that with large corporate control of food
manufacturing and it isn t hard so see that the many levels of the ag industry are being controlled
by large corporate entities which gives them lots of market power. Although most people only think

This paper focuses on three different religions and their cultural values and traditions surrounding
death as well as the nursing implications regarding patients of various religious and cultural
beliefs. The Hindu religion focuses on reincarnation and assisting the dead to their next life. Their
traditions, such as placing a basil leaf, clarified butter and gold in the deceased s mouth, help their
loved one s spirit move on. The Islamic religion understands that the death is God s will and take
part in various traditions such as bathing the dead loved one. Buddhist religion focuses on

After death has occurred, a basil leaf, clarified butter, and a piece of gold are placed in the
mouth of the deceased so that the desire for wealth and food is satisfied (Gupta, 2011, p.254).
As far as disposing of the body, some people choose cremation; some choose a burial and some
even leave the body in the Ganges River. The funerals are very simple and elegant, which
represents respect for the deceased (Gupta, 2011). The behavior associated with bereavement is
very different to western culture. In India, Hindu family members are expected to cry and wail
loudly as it is considered healthy to have an outburst of strong emotions. Lack of loud wailing by
the widow and other family members of the deceased is considered pathological (Gupta, 2011, p.
255). It is the duty of the relatives and friends to console the grieving family members. (Gupta,
2011, p. 255) Demonstration of respect for the dead is done several different ways. Typically, a
large photograph of the deceased person is displayed prominently in the house, with a garland
draped over the photo and a burning incense and an oil lamp are place in front (Gupta, 2011, p.

did. His emphasis on how unacceptable it is for himself to be a virgin at 22 years old reveals
how bizarrely hyper sexualized American society is in comparison to other countries. In Asian
or Africa 22 is a normal age to still be a virgin. Only in America is a young dude who has not
scored pussy considered inadequate in the social rankings until he s no longer a virgin. Only in
America does it this urge a man to go on a shooting rampage just because he felt as if he didn t
achieve manhood since no one wanted to sleep with him. People do not want to admit that the
basics of masculinity taught and deeply rooted into the men and boys in our culture are eliciting
patriarchal violence, because if they did it would force them to change the way they think about
their identity.

The Pros And Cons Of Psychoanalysis
In psychology, a psychodynamic theory is a view that explains personality in terms of conscious
and unconscious forces, such as unconscious desires and beliefs. In the early 20th century, Sigmund
Freud proposed a psychodynamic theory according to which personality consists of the id, the
superego, and the ego. The id is responsible for a person s instincts and pleasure seeking, the
superego attempts to obey the rules of authority and society, and the ego mediates between the two
to meet the demands of reality and what a person needs. Psychodynamic theories commonly hold
that childhood experiences shape personality. Such theories are associated with psychoanalysis, a
type of therapy that attempts to reveal unconscious thoughts and desires. The aim of psychoanalysis
therapy is to release represses emotions and experiences and to help the patient develop insight into
his or her unconscious. Patients may suppress their vulnerabilities, motives, tensions, impulses,
guilt, fantasies, and urges. Freud believed that individuals must unravel, experience, and understand
their true, unconscious feelings to understand them. Classical psychoanalysis has become the least
commonly practices form of psychodynamic therapy because of its intense demands on the patients
time and emotions. It is, however, the oldest form of psychodynamic therapy. Psychoanalysis is not
usually considered useful for patients suffering from severe depression or psychotic disorders such
as schizophrenia, people

Argumentative Essay On Single Sex Schools
Single sex education has been becoming more popular in recent years. In 2002, the No Child Left
Behind Act was passed. This was a major turning point in the advancement of single sex schools
because it loosened government restrictions. Since 2002, about 95 single sex public schools have
been established (Novotney). Historically, single gendereducationhas been more prevalent in other
countries, such as New Zealand, Belgium, and the United Kingdom, than it is in the United States.
One reason that the United States has had far fewer single gender schools is because of the laws
concerning education that the states all follow. Also, single sex schools were not able to be
financially funded. This made it difficult for the United States to establish and continuously run
many single sex schools, especially government funded single sex public schools (Bigler and
Signorella 659). With the advancement of the number of single sex schools, questions and
controversies have arisen. Parents began questioning what type of education best suited their child.
Should parents send their children to coeducational institutions, or single gender institutions? In
which environment will students most succeed? While data has come up inconclusive in this
regard, it is still important for certain values to be taught in schools. Parents want their children to
succeed in their social skills, be tr. Coeducational schools are the best option for students to be
successful in school and in their future.

Comparing Leonardo Da Vinci with Michelangelo
Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti were, and still are considered to be two of the
greatest minds, even geniuses of the Renaissance. But which one is more of a genius than the
other? Leonardo Da Vinci was born on April 15th, 1452, son to a notary called Ser Piero. Ser
Pier has sex with a woman called Catarina, which resulted in her pregnancy. For a believed reason
that Catarina was the Daughter of a farmer, they never got married. Ser Pier later married another
woman, when he was 25, which is the time Leonardo was born. As for Michelangelo, he was born
on March 6, 1475, to a father called Ludovico, and a mother named Francesca, who was not
capable of taking care of him. She sent her son to a family of stone cutters, and whose... Show more

The bridge worked and has a very modern shape. These two superb artists are so much alike, yet
they are very different as well.
Michelangelo had his very own aspects which made him a unique person. Michelangelo was a
person brilliant in sculptures only. On august 4, 1983, Pope Julius II Della Rovere told
Michelangelo to paint the Sistine Chapel. Although never experienced with paint, especially fresco
painting, he painted the whole ceiling by himself, standing up while most painters that painted
ceilings did it lying on their backs. He asked his old friend Francesco Granacci to help him, as
well as four other fresco painters. However, when he saw that they weren t as good as he
thought, and have the imagination he wanted, he dismissed them and continued by himself. All
he had was two men that helped make the paint. Michelangelo was very bad at mathematics, and
languages. He failed to learn how to speak Latin, which was taught to most nobles in Italy. After
being taught by Ghirlandaio, he soon excelled to being even better than his teacher, and walking
his own path and trying new things. Rock is one of the hardest objects to work, and craft with.

Angela Carter Story Analysis
Being the guardian or parent for a child is a very tough job. Since there is a great deal of
unimaginable incidents going on in the world, you don t want your child to be exposed to this
for the sake of keeping their innocence. Some people want their children to live in a world of
utopia, where everything is perfect and happy as they hope it would be. As time goes on and
children grow older, there comes a point where they will face the harsh reality whether they are
prepared for it or not. It s inevitable. All you can do is prepare them to confront the real world, by
doing this, children will morph into mature beings, ready to take on anything. To put this into
perspective, in Angela Carter s stories, such as The Tiger s Bride and The Bloody Chamber, each
protagonist starts off living a happy life, until they encounters an obstacle where they have to face
reality. As a result of dealing with these situations, young girls have jumped the hurdle into
maturity. After a careful reading of Angela Carter s stories, each story shows the journey of how
young women transition into maturity; however, in order for them to achieve this, they have to
confront the harsh reality of the world on their own. To start off, parents often fantasize about
keeping their children pure and innocent for the sake of protecting them from any harm, which
refrains them from entering maturing. Being able to leave this protection is the key to maturity.
This safeguard will only last for so long, until

Overpopulation And Its Effects On Our Environment Essay
While there are plenty of babies being born every single day, do you ever wonder how the world
will continue to sustain the growing population? The population of the world is continuing to grow
at a dangerously, increasing rate. There are already at least 6.5 billion people on earth. According
to, Overpopulation is main threat to planet , the populationis said to reach 9 billion by 2050. The
overpopulationof humans is causing destructive impacts on our environment and a high demand
for resources. One destructive impact would be climate change because of the exceeding rate of
humans causing pollution in the air. While the earth is having a tough time sustaining particular
resources, the high demand causes the earth to force to get its nonrenewable resources.
Overpopulation can lead to increased impacts of over packaging, depletion of resources, habitat
loss, and etc. Overpopulation is a controversial topic to me because while there are those who aren
t paying attention to its effects the world is displaying its resources can soon be gone. Addressing
the problems and concerns of overpopulation now, can help save our lives in the future,
LITERALLY!
In order to slow down the rate of overpopulation we must first access the causes. Many
technological advancements in medical facilities and treatments helped cause a decline in the death
rate. Although, saving lives is a great job, this increase in individuals have also contributed to
overpopulation. Before we had better medical

Why Gender Inequality Stalled By Stephanie Coontz
Stephanie Coontz, author of Why Gender Inequality Stalled, emphasizes on how women are still
challenged in today s society about inequality of women wanting to have a career and raising a
family instead of staying at home to care for her family. Women making the choice to have a baby
and have a career is often frowned upon. According to Coontz, when they become mothers, they
face more scrutiny and prejudice on the job than fathers do (7). In a two familyhousehold, mothers
often have to take off work to care for their children in case of emergencies than fathers do. In
single household families, mothers are full time parents and have a full time job. This makes it
harder for the women to get equality in the workplace. Do you think that

The Pros And Cons Of Winter Paving Challenging
Some people find winter weather exhilarating and eagerly anticipate the arrival of the first frost.
However, many paving contractors heave a deep sigh when they think about installing asphalt
pavement during the winter months. This is not because they are averse to working outdoors
when the daytime highs are in the low 40s or that they are overly concerned by the 11 or 12
snowy days that Central Kentucky gets during an average year. It is because winterpaving presents
some challenges that are not present during the other three seasons.
( removed HTML ) What Makes Winter Paving Challenging? ( removed HTML )
The biggest challenge when performing cold weather paving is the principle of heat transference.
When you place a hot substance on top of a cold substance, heat will transfer until both substances
reach the same temperature. Once asphalt cools below approximately 175 degrees Fahrenheit, it
becomes stiff and chunky. This makes it impossible to achieve the proper compaction, so the
pavement will not be as strong and is more prone to premature failure. ... Show more content on

Fahrenheit but increasing the thickness of the course provides 17 minutes of time to compact the

Upward Mobility
Melessa Favreault in her report titled discrimination and upward mobility, aims to determine if
racism upsets upward mobility particularly among African Americans. For this report, Melessa
defines racism as less favorable treatment in an important institution, like the education or criminal
justice system, or market, like a labor, financial, or housing market, solely on the basis of an
ascribed characteristic, like age, race, or gender (1). The report exemplified that in fact, among
African Americanfamilies, downward mobility is more expected than upward mobility, residential
segregation is a threat to upward mobility, and discrimination is present in both labor and housing
markets.
Institutional racism is partly to blame for the lack ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A subject that is more thoroughly touched upon in the textbook. According to the textbook,
segregation often leads to social isolation. This occurs because outsiders such as those belonging
to the middle and upper working classes avoid these neighborhoods. This avoidance leaves these
communities virtually cut off from the larger society and lead to a high occurrence of crime and
unemployment (299). Besides these factors, these segregated neighborhoods have poor quality
schools, limited medical care, and high rates of infant mortality, substance abuse, and violent crime
(299). All factors that diminish chances of upward mobility. That is, a lack of education and high
exposure to crime and substance abuse does not provide much in the way of opportunity. The
report states that Social exclusion remains among the largest problems in our wealthy society, and
one of the most troubling with respect to economic mobility (5). This could be due to a lack of
acknowledgement of the problem. The report also states that, there is a disparity by race in
perceptions of the prevalence of discrimination, with whites less likely than blacks to view
discrimination as a problem (4). As long as there is a victim there is a crime, no matter how much
its prevalence is denied, institutional racism continues to promote unequal opportunity among the
African American population in America.
Based on the information examined in the report, racism does in fact hinder the upward mobility of
African Americans. Racist practices towards blacks in the capitalist housing market strikingly
lessons prospects of upward mobility by promoting racially segregated neighborhoods that offer
less in the way of social infrastructure, such as schools and hospitals and subject residents to crime

The Negative Effect Of Alcohol
The negative effect of alcohol have been well documented and scientifically proven. The United
States National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism reports that 1,825 college students
between the ages of 18 and 24 die each year from alcohol related unintentional injuries. furthermore
599,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 receive unintentional injuries while under the
influence of alcohol. These statistics show just how easy it is for young drinkers to abuse alcohol.
Many young drinkers are aware of such statistics. Despite that they continue to consume alcohol.
Perhaps we ll never be able to completely eliminate drinking from our society, historically there
have been attempts to ban alcohol in many countries, none of them ended successfully. In Lesson
for a young drinker written by Tom Chiarella and in proper credentials are needed to join a poem
written by Charles Bukowski, both authors choose to focus on those individuals who will drinkno
matter what studies or the law say. Both writings have some things in common but they also have
a lot in contrast. Both writers claimed to know how alcohol is mastered. However Chiarella claims
that alcohol is mastered through observation and experimentation. Bukowski on the other hand
claims to have mastered alcohol over many years and by making countless of mistakes. When we
take a closer look at the authors backgrounds we can easily determine that Bukowski was never
able to master alcohol therefore his poem is not

A Single Person, Group, Event Or Community
Case studies are in depth investigations of a single person, group, event or community.
Typically, data are gathered from a variety of sources and by using several different methods
(e.g. observation interviews). The research may also continue for an extended period of time, so
processes and developments can be studied as they happen. The case study started with the
clinical studies where the medical history was recorded over a period of time and similar cases
were handled with same procedure and identical symptoms were considered to group the diseases
in one genera. In case study the hierarchy of events is recorded which have happened in the past
leading to the current events and forecasting their effects in the future. The data for the case study
can be collected from various sources which are easily accessible on the internet such as annual
reports of the company, articles and blogs of the employees and the website content. For the
detailed insight data, interview can be used as an effective tool .the facts can be gathered from the
individual, friends, family, employer and other people surrounding the individual on which the case
is studied.

Japanese Mythology Research Paper
What is Japanese mythology? Well, they are a body of stories that were compiled from oral
traditions concerning the legends, gods, ceremonies, customs, practices and historical accounts of
the Japanese people. Most of the Japanese myths are collectively chronicled in the Kojiki, the
oldest historical record written in 712 AD and the Nihon Shoki, which was compiled in 720 AD.
Both of these works tell the origin of the ruling class and apparently were aimed at strengthening its
authority. In conclusion, they are not considered as pure myths and contain political views as well.
They are based on two traditions: the Yamato cycle and the Izumo cycle. The Yamato cycle is

The first part is the birth of Japan. A central foundation was now laid down for the drifting
cosmos, and mud and sand accumulated upon it. A stake was driven in, and an inhabitable place

superiors, they stood on a floating bridge in heaven and stirred the ocean with a spear. When the

The second part of the creation story, Kamiumi, describes the birth of the original Japanese

Izanami as he was being born. Filled with rage and anger, Izanagi retaliated by attacking him and

Humour And Its Influence On Organizational Success
Humour refers to a key factor of human interaction and is often used as a multifunctional tool to
achieve many objectives. Humour has managed to play a significant role in the workplace
environment in several ways. It brings many positive outcomes to workplace relations such as
building stronger connections. Not only does the use of humourbuild stronger connections, but it
also assists in building your career, creativity, culture, confidence and overall success within an
organisation (Cooper, 2008). However, there are a few negatively used humour styles which can
lead to a damaging impact on the organisation. Throughout this essay, the concept of humour and its
role in bringing organisational success will be conveyed through the supporting studies as well as
the theories presented.
Humour is diverse and is commonly used within organisations. Many styles of humour within the
workplace can lead to organisational success. These popular types of humour styles include self
enhancing humour, as well as affiliative humour. Affiliative humour is commonly used in the
workplace to assist in amusing one another, to facilitate relationships and to reduce interpersonal
tension. On the other hand, self enhancing humour refers to individuals who usually take a
humorous perspective of life. They also tend to use it as a tool to cope with stress and tension in
the workplace (Galloway, 2010). Controversially, a few negative styles of humour also exist within
some firms. The most common

The Black Rhinoceros By Gonzaga Manzo
History dies with every animal species that becomes extinct. For years the amount African Black
Rhinoceros has been dropping significantly; the problem may be unfixable at this point.
Unfortunately, many animals on earth are facing the same tragedy. These animals are primarily
from a time that no human kept records. They are living, breathing history that will die off because
the superior species could not protect them. In this picture by Gonzaga Manzo, the Black
Rhinocerosis being worked on in an auto shop by two stumped mechanics. They stare puzzled at
the large animal, not being able to see how to fix the problem. Extinction Can t be Fixed is
printed in white letters in the upper right corner, meaning that extinction cannot be reversed with
tools found in a repair shop. In fact, it cannot be reversed at all. Gonzaga Manzo, a Spanish artist,
created this image as a part of a campaign series for the World Wide Fund for Naturefor species
facing extreme extinction: the Black rhinoceros. This powerful image was primarily to stop hunting
the animals, but also to raise awareness of the dire situation. The Black Rhinoceros has become
extinct in twelve African countries. They are being hunted for their horn, which is used in certain
pain killing drugs and thus is highly sought after. Furthermore, this is a digitally edited image,
which combines real images with digital elements. Manzo did this to create a realistic photo of the

In many cop movies it is easy to distinguish the good from the evil but in this film it all depends
on what your definition of good is. The film is a journey deep within the LAPD s narcotics
division and exposes the darker side of law enforcement. For example, in one of the first scenes
Detective Harris tells Officer Hoyt that a good narcotics detective should have narcotics in their
system and pressures him smoke illicit drugs. Consequently, when Officer Hoyt refuses
Detective Harris points a gun at him and tells him if they were on the streets a drug dealer would
have killed him, and tells him he doesn t want him in his division. Officer Hoyt gives in to
Detective Harris telling him he will do anything he wants him to do and smokes the illicit drugs.
Officer Hoyt in complete disbelief after just smoking illicit drugs goes into culture shock when
he begins to see that it was just an ordinary part of being in narcotics. In a following scene
Officer Hoyt states that it couldn t be true that all this corruption is part of being in the narcotics
division and Detective Harris responds that that s the only way to get the job done. These first
few scenes set the tone for how Detective Harris works with little disregard for the laws he swore
to uphold and make it difficult through the film to determine who really are the bad

The Little Boy Bombs That Ended World War II
There are many factors that ended World War II; However, The bombs and the ship that dropped
them were some of the most important. These bombs were known as the Fat Man and Little Boy,
and the ship was the Boeing B 29 Superfortress Enola Gay.
The first bomb dropped in World War II was the Little Boy. The Little Boy bomb was a gun type
device, whose critical mass was achieved when a uranium projectile was fired into a uranium
target through a barrel. Both were in a subcritical state. The resulting uranium mass was
composed of both the projectile and the target going from a subcritical state to a critical state
which, in turn, caused the chain reaction to begin. The Little Boy bomb weighed nine thousand
seven hundred pounds with a length of ten feet and a diameter of twenty eight inches. The fuel
used for the bomb was made up of highly enriched uranium. The fuel was approximately one
hundred forty pounds. The target case, barrel, uranium projectile, and the other main parts of the
Little Boy bomb were transported to Tinian Island via the USS Indianapolis. The efficiency of
this bomb was destitute. Roughly 1.38% of the uranium fuel had actually fissioned in the bomb.
The explosive force of the Little Boy was equal to that of fifteen thousand tons of TNT. The use
of the Little Boy bomb was to be dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945.
The delivery of the bomb was by the B 29 Enola Gay which was piloted by Colonel Paul Tibbets (

The answer to this question is both yes and no depending on the viewpoint that this question is
being looked at. In relation to white people of power the answer is still both yes and no. This is
because white people are very aware of African American history and to acknowledge their part in
it would mean to admit fault. By admitting fault they would now become responsible for the state
of African Americans presently. Which is why it s easier and more economically and politically
better for them to continue funding prisons to incarcerate African Americans rather than fix the
root issues that stemmed from slavery. I say yes only because if Europeans knew of the impact
African history had on civilization then maybe we wouldn t have a highly racialized society in
America intent on the incarceration of African Americans. However, from the viewpoint of an
African perspective the answer is most definitely no. It is important for any culture or race to

  • 2. A New List Of Sustainable Development Goals On September 25th, the UN officially announced a new list of Sustainable Development Goals(SDG s) that would replace the previous Millennium Development Goals (MDG s) that would expire in 2015. Among the list of SDG s released by the UN, was one in particular, goal number 14, which stated, in relation to Oceans, the aim to Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development. In addition to setting the goal previously mentioned, the UN also set out a list of targets in order to evaluate the set goals. 14.1) According to a recent article by Dong Chen, Paul Szostak, Zongsu Wei, and Ruiyang Xiao, there have been significant eutrophication issues as a result of nutrient runoffs from farmlands into natural water bodies, such as lakes, rivers, streams, etc. The nutrients, such as Phosphorus, that runoff from the farmlands into the water bodies act as a limiting agent for the growth of algae. In other words, they prevent the algae from growing, and as a result, affect the whole ecosystem of that water body. In an article published in Sensors Journal, in June 2015, Underwater wireless sensor networks (UWSNs) were announced as possible means of detecting and observing aquatic environments. According to this article, these sensors would be used in a variety of ways, namely to monitor pollution, prevent disasters from occurring, or assisted navigation and to send monitored data to the sink. • 3. My Soccer Experience The first soccer match I can recall watching was on a black, chunky TV screen back in my motherland, Laos. My astonishment was real. I watched in awe as the players dribbled the ball, sprinted through the green field, and nutmegged their opponent to attempt to find the back of the net. I was fascinated by the pace of the game and the excitement from the stadium when a goal was scored. Since then, I would plead with my parent to take me to my cousin s home in the capital city every Sunday to watch a match. My adoration for the game declined after immigrating to the United States, but I fell in love again during high school. What sprouted my interest in this sport? I have not gotten a clue. It wasn t like my brother, cousin, or uncle played it. My family had no connection to the sport at all. This memory is particular to an incredibly meaningful event that happened recently in the summer of 2017. I attended an El Clasico match between world renowned Spanish clubs Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. I am a supporter of the most royal soccer club in the world, Real Madrid. You don t just declare that you are a fan of a team the very next day or because they won a certain match. It takes understanding, time, knowledge, and passion for the game. This feeling is hard to put into words like certain things in life that make you happy, but you don t know exactly why. It could be that I have grown to cherish this team because they played in the first game I had ever seen. Real Madrid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Cyrano De Bergerac Character Analysis In the play, Cyrano de Bergerac, by Edmond Rostant, there are many characters in the book; but our focus is on Cyrano de Bergerac. His admirability lies in his willingness to please others. It may be because he is very self conscious, so he thinks that no one will ever like let alone love him. In the play, Cyrano is in lovewith his cousin, Roxane. But Roxane is in love with Christian, and Christian Roxane. Cyrano ends up setting Christian up with Roxane, while Cyrano writes all the romantic lines for Christian to woo Roxane (Christian is terrible at love poems). Christian gets married to Roxane right before the men have to leave for war. Days later, Roxane comes to the war camp, and the same day Christian finds out that Cyrano also loves Roxane. ... The data shows that certain metropolitan areas are growing while others are declining. Many Southern cities and Western cities are rapidly rising in population as economic industries settle and family friendly conditions allow innovation and education to thrive. One strong example of this is the Raleigh Cary MSA, in North Carolina, which has experienced rapid growth in recent decades from increased economic dominance in government and education sector. New Orleans is an extreme exception for these regions, with the population being greatly reduced because of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Cleveland and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. How Do Tattoos Affect The Health Care Industry There has been a recent issue with people smoking and having tattoos in the Health Care industry. 76% of employees believe tattoos hurt your chances of getting a job interview. Many people oppose both smoking and tattoos. People are saying if you have tattoos or if you smoke, you should not even apply. I disagree with this. A job should not be denied to someone just because of the ink present on their skin or what they put inside of their body. Over the past couple of decades, tattoos have become very popular. The popularity of tattoos has grown 13% since 2007 and it continues to rise. The percentage of tattooed adults in the United States is 42%. With the rise and popularity of tattoos, health care professionals should be a lot more lenient ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Examples Of Corruption In Animal Farm To run a successful society, citizens need rules to abide and a higher arcing power to supply such rules. Enter, the government. Now, government can be good, bad, helpful, unaccommodating, and in some cases, downright ridiculous. Animal Farm however, is a case of a government being corrupt and unfair to the governed, and using its powerin an unchecked fashion. The leadership in the Animal Farm is quickly corrupted into a hardcore dictatorship in a variety of ways, such as the lack of knowledge throughout the whole body of citizens, the abuse of power from a superior group, and no opposition to the ruling state. Ever since the rebellion and over throwing of humans of manor farm, there was a natural and apparently obvious group that could lead the rest of the animals: the pigs. The pigs constantly battered into the minds of the other animals that pigs were of high intelligence and were an indisputable choice for the managers of the farm. From the start, the animals were lead to believe themselves as stupid and inferior to pigs. This may be true in learning as the pigs were the fastest to learn new abilities such as reading and writing, but with enough time and effort they could have taught the whole farm the necessary skills. A non intelligent main body of citizens is where the problems start to form, as this class is now easily manipulated into believing almost anything, the first sign of a dictatorship. As stated before, the pigs quickly rose to the position of leaders due to the persuasion that pigs were the most intelligent. Well what now? Having this basis of knowledge spread throughout the whole farm, The two main leaders, Snowball and Napoleon, are allowed to start making decisions for their own gains. It started off fine, and honestly most of the new rules and what not were for the benefit of the entire farm. However, once Snowball was out of the picture (which we will talk about later), Napoleon has no opposition to keep him in check. He starts breaking the Animal Farm s constitution aka the seven commandments, and with an illiterate group of followers and a pack of bloodthirsty dogs, he starts to get away with it! He makes such outlandish settlements such as the extra rations for pigs, or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Mexican American War Manifest Destiny During the late 1840s the Mexican American War took place. The war started with the U.S annexation of Republic of Texas and was the result of a dispute over where the Mexican American border should be. President James K. Polk, who believed the United States had manifest destiny to spread across the continent to the Pacific Ocean, ordered U.S. troops into an area between the Nueces River and the Rio Grande, a region that was claimed by both Mexicoand Texas, openly antagonizing Mexico. The purpose of this paper is to provide a general overview and analysis of how the Mexican American War contributed to Manifest Destiny. The region of Texas, which was originally a part of Mexico, declared independence as a nation in the year 1836. Mexico was primarily a territory of Spain, and the American settlers sought permission from Spain to develop land within the region of Texas. When Mexico became independent from Spain, the arrangements were conducted with the government of Mexico; however, this quickly caused a serious conflict, as the Americans in the region of Texas began to outnumber the native Mexicans in the region. When the number of Mexican immigrants increased, the situation escalated into military conflicts causing the famous Battle of Alamo, which the U.S claimed victory. Two major figures involved in this conflict included Stephen F. Austin, a young immigrant from Missouri, and Sam Houston, after whom major cities within present day Texas are named ... • 11. The Battle Of Gettysburg Battle Analysis Battle of Gettysburg Battle Analysis It is our duty, as soon to be Second Lieutenants in the Army, to learn from history. Learning from mistakes in the past is necessary to understand the responsibilities we will soon have. The Battle of Gettysburg shows prime examples of the nine principles of war: Objective, Offensive, Mass, Economy of Force, Maneuver, Unity of Command, Security, Surprise and Simplicity. In the militarytoday, we are overwhelmingly blessed with every asset that we have including technology and monetary resources the list could go on forever but the most invaluable asset is history. Although all nine principles of war are pertinent to success on the battlefield, only five will be discussed in this analysis. Objective What a cruel thing is war; to separate and destroy families and friends, and mar the purest joys and happiness God has granted us in this world; to fill our hearts with hatred instead of love for our neighbours, and to devastate the fair face of this beautiful world! I pray that, on this day when only peace and good will are preached to mankind, better thoughts may fill the hearts of our enemies and turn them to peace. ... My heart bleeds at the death of every one of our gallant men. (General Robert E. Lee. 1862) General Robert E. Some people enjoy pink noise; this could sound like pouring rain or a waterfall. Others prefer white noise, ie. a fan blowing. A writer, Jessica Gross said in her article that when the body shuts down at night, hearing is still active ( 6 Things That Influence Your Dreams ). This movement was a feminist effort aimed at gaining equality for women at home, in the workplace, and in society. These parities included politics, pay, education, under representation in the professions, stereotypes, roles, and the status of women in culture. The source of women s oppression stemmed from sexuality/ sexual orientation, racial oppression, capitalism, socio economic status, religion, and men in society. The feminist movement is steering women away from that, and gives women the idea that their self sacrificing role of taking care of and dedicating their lives to their children is less important then becoming equal to men and living in focus of you. The women s liberation is causing wives and mothers with good families to walk out, in order to chase their self fulfillment. Women no longer want to be burdened with the obligation to take care of a family and raise children, instilling their values into them so they grow up to be strong and positive people in society. No matter how much you believe in justice or equality or anything else, as long as you don t actively follow that compass, you can t honestly call yourself a good person. In fact, that might even make you worse; you know something is wrong but you do it anyway. On one hand, I like to think that I believe in truth, justice and the equality of all Gods children, but in reality, even if I do believe this, I don t change my actions to fit my own code. Lying has always been something that goes against my moral code. While it s not necessarily the utmost condemnable thing a person can do, it is a more accessible evil. Most people I know don t commit murder or other grand crimes, but I d venture to say most people I know lie. In addition, as the leader of the French satirical press with his journals, La Caricature and of Le Charivari, Charles Philipon set the precedent of the political and social tone of the press in France throughout the July Monarchy. Le Charivari was Philipon s weekly illustrated magazine that was published for nearly ninety five years beginning in 1932. After the establishment of hefty fines, Philipon decided to produce social commentary. On the other hand, La Caricature, a weekly satirical journal ran between... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the first five years of the July Monarchy, fines and the chance of incarceration plagued the press, however, according to Gabriel Weisberg in the article, The Coded Image: Agitation in Caricature, the government reached its breaking point in 1935. He stated that they reacted by restricting the freedom on the press, which had been bitterly won in the Revolution of 1830, through the institution of censorship control invoked by the September Laws . These laws regulated the press and banned all criticism of King Louis Phillipe and constitutional monarchy. Although Charles Philipon and HonorГ© Daumier were not the sole components of the censorship, for hundreds of talented satirists flooded France with political commentary, Philipon and Daumier s work was exponentially influential to kindling ideas of discontent that were potent to the monarchy. Despite the artist s initial disregard of imposed fines and police confiscation, the implication of significant punishment, artists were forced to be extremely careful about their themes . As a result, satire began to move away from its traditional political nature and began lampooning issues regarding social classes. With the help of Philipon s Soap Bubbles, The Replastering, and Les Poires and Daumier s Gargantua, the reception and distribution of the political satire and caricature during the July Monarchy was blacklisted from popular culture. Fast forward less than two centuries, although Louis Phillipe and the July Monarchy attempted to distinguish political satire and caricatures for good, cartoonists throughout the world continue to rival against their government to comment on their leader s appearance, failed promises, and ... Eutrophication is defined as the natural ageing process of natural body of water, generally understood to refer to enrichment of water systems by nutrients, notably phosphorus and nitrogen, and to the improved production of algal and higher plant biomass that the added nutrient loads stimulate (Reynolds, 1992). Customarily, the eutrophication is a natural phenomenon, but during the past decades, the word eutrophication has been frequently used to signify the artificial and unwanted addition of plant nutrients to waterbodies (Ryding Rast, 1989). Eutrophication is a process whereby water bodies, such as lakes, estuaries, or slow moving streams receive extra nutrients that stimulate unnecessary plant growth (periphyton attached algae, algae, and nuisance plants weeds). This boosted plant growth, regularly called an algal bloom, reduces dissolved oxygen in the water when dead plant material decays and can frequently cause other water biota (fish in particular) to perish. Nutrients can come from many sources, such as: fertilizers applied to agricultural fields, suburban lawns, and deposition of nitrogen from the atmosphere, erosion of soil containing nutrients and sewage treatment plant discharges. In the simplest definition, Eutrophication is the decreasing of the water quality within a body of water (Henry, 1993). Accelerated eutrophication of water ecosystems, as a direct ... • 23. The Pros And Cons Of Psychoanalysis In psychology, a psychodynamic theory is a view that explains personality in terms of conscious and unconscious forces, such as unconscious desires and beliefs. In the early 20th century, Sigmund Freud proposed a psychodynamic theory according to which personality consists of the id, the superego, and the ego. The id is responsible for a person s instincts and pleasure seeking, the superego attempts to obey the rules of authority and society, and the ego mediates between the two to meet the demands of reality and what a person needs. Psychodynamic theories commonly hold that childhood experiences shape personality. Such theories are associated with psychoanalysis, a type of therapy that attempts to reveal unconscious thoughts and desires. The aim of psychoanalysis therapy is to release represses emotions and experiences and to help the patient develop insight into his or her unconscious. This was a major turning point in the advancement of single sex schools because it loosened government restrictions. Since 2002, about 95 single sex public schools have been established (Novotney). Historically, single gendereducationhas been more prevalent in other countries, such as New Zealand, Belgium, and the United Kingdom, than it is in the United States. One reason that the United States has had far fewer single gender schools is because of the laws concerning education that the states all follow. Also, single sex schools were not able to be financially funded. This made it difficult for the United States to establish and continuously run many single sex schools, especially government funded single sex public schools (Bigler and Signorella 659). With the advancement of the number of single sex schools, questions and controversies have arisen. Parents began questioning what type of education best suited their child. Should parents send their children to coeducational institutions, or single gender institutions? In which environment will students most succeed? Since there is a great deal of unimaginable incidents going on in the world, you don t want your child to be exposed to this for the sake of keeping their innocence. Some people want their children to live in a world of utopia, where everything is perfect and happy as they hope it would be. As time goes on and children grow older, there comes a point where they will face the harsh reality whether they are prepared for it or not. It s inevitable. All you can do is prepare them to confront the real world, by doing this, children will morph into mature beings, ready to take on anything. To put this into perspective, in Angela Carter s stories, such as The Tiger s Bride and The Bloody Chamber, each protagonist starts off living a happy life, until they encounters an obstacle where they have to face reality. As a result of dealing with these situations, young girls have jumped the hurdle into maturity. After a careful reading of Angela Carter s stories, each story shows the journey of how young women transition into maturity; however, in order for them to achieve this, they have to confront the harsh reality of the world on their own. This avoidance leaves these communities virtually cut off from the larger society and lead to a high occurrence of crime and unemployment (299). Besides these factors, these segregated neighborhoods have poor quality schools, limited medical care, and high rates of infant mortality, substance abuse, and violent crime (299). All factors that diminish chances of upward mobility. That is, a lack of education and high exposure to crime and substance abuse does not provide much in the way of opportunity. These animals are primarily from a time that no human kept records. They are living, breathing history that will die off because the superior species could not protect them. In many cop movies it is easy to distinguish the good from the evil but in this film it all depends on what your definition of good is. The film is a journey deep within the LAPD s narcotics division and exposes the darker side of law enforcement. For example, in one of the first scenes Detective Harris tells Officer Hoyt that a good narcotics detective should have narcotics in their system and pressures him smoke illicit drugs. Consequently, when Officer Hoyt refuses Detective Harris points a gun at him and tells him if they were on the streets a drug dealer would have killed him, and tells him he doesn t want him in his division. Officer Hoyt gives in to Detective Harris telling him he will do anything he wants him to do and smokes the illicit drugs. Officer Hoyt in complete disbelief after just smoking illicit drugs goes into culture shock when he begins to see that it was just an ordinary part of being in narcotics. In a following scene Officer Hoyt states that it couldn t be true that all this corruption is part of being in the narcotics division and Detective Harris responds that that s the only way to get the job done. These first few scenes set the tone for how Detective Harris works with little disregard for the laws he swore to uphold and make it difficult through the film to determine who really are the bad ... The fuel was approximately one hundred forty pounds. • 41. African History And Self Hatred Walker has shown that the remedy for self hatred is teaching people of African descent to love their whole black selves, mind, body and history. In essence if we don t teach African history and self love, then western culture will teach Africans European history and to aspire to be European which will destroy the self love and mental health of any person of African descent who lives in that society. For what little history is taught about Africans institutionally and publically presently, it used as a tool to disempower people of African descent. To start present interpretations of African history denies the feats and accomplishments done by Africans as well as the roots from which all people come from. Presently history is made for people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The answer to this question is both yes and no depending on the viewpoint that this question is being looked at. In relation to white people of power the answer is still both yes and no. This is because white people are very aware of African American history and to acknowledge their part in it would mean to admit fault. By admitting fault they would now become responsible for the state of African Americans presently. Which is why it s easier and more economically and politically better for them to continue funding prisons to incarcerate African Americans rather than fix the root issues that stemmed from slavery. I say yes only because if Europeans knew of the impact African history had on civilization then maybe we wouldn t have a highly racialized society in America intent on the incarceration of African Americans. However, from the viewpoint of an African perspective the answer is most definitely no. It is important for any culture or race to understand their history from a psychological and developmental standpoint, especially when faced with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
