In this module, we’ll look at several key topics
related to Learning to Teach Online, including:

• Prepping for an Online Course
• Engagement and Presence
• Academic Integrity
• Closing Out a Course
The Top 10 Best Practices for
Teaching Online
We will review some key practices that will help
make your online course successful, engaging
students fully in the learning process.
Prepping for an Online Course
We will look at the steps involved in making sure you’re
ready to teach online. This includes both technological and
pedagogical readiness. These include ensuring you’re
familiar with the technologies used, giving yourself enough
time to adequately prepare for this class, and that you have
reviewed the dates and times of assignments and
assessments to make sure they are correct.
Engagement and Presence
We will focus on the most important component of the
online experience – faculty presence and engagement.
This is by far the most important part of teaching online –
being there as the content expert, the facilitator of the
learning experience, the one who provides key feedback –
in other words being the professor for the course.
Academic Integrity
Academic Integrity is the one topic that opponents to
online learning keep bringing up as a weakness to
this format. But is it really? Are there tools and processes
that can be used to ensure at least the same level of
academic integrity present in face to face courses?
We’ll look at some interesting ways to handle this.
Closing Out the Course
How do we close out a course? Many times, with online
courses, it sort of just ends. But is there a better way to
cleanly wrap up the course, in a more pedagogically sound
manner, so that the student learning experience ends on a
positive note? We’ll explore this topic as well.
Almost Finished
You will also continue to work on your media projects
ahead of the showcase in the next module. And you
will access the Module 7 Discussion Board and
respond to the scenario question presented.
