Here,we will discuss a few methods and good practices for
tutors to engage in online classes with students, using

Know your student
All students are different; whether face to
face or online , teacher must know the
student’s traits and behaviour to help
them become better individuals
We encourage teacher to send assessment
questionnaire to classify student.If student
needs a different skill set to yours, let

Lesson planning
Lesson planning refers to the process of
preparation with the student/s and the
particular upcoming session/s in mind.
Content that needs to be covered must be
available with tutor prior to session. This helps
in taking advantage of exposing the student to
relevant digital study material

Plan your session time
Tutors need to be great planners for a
successful session. Apart from organising
relevant study material, session time has
to be managed well by tutor

Encourage participation
Effective Interactive sessions are possible
when the student feels comfortable with

Assessments shall be made when needed and
must be aligned to the student’s capability. This
must lead to motivation and encouragement

Take away lessons
Students must be able to take some tip or
new idea home after every session

Identify common pitfalls of student
Students will appreciate a tutor’s
encouraging comment , mixed with a
warning about the possible precautions to
avoid common mistakes and exam tips

Communicate ongoing plan
At the end of the session, it’s a good to inform about what
is coming up in the next session .
A long term plan aligned to school plan can also be
communicated as required ( Ask for a plan if school has
provided one)

Instructional design is the ADDIE
model
We will try to adapt the steps of Addie model for ongoing
one to one sessions by Tutors

Step1: Analyse

(ADDIE is an instructional systems design (ISD) framework that many instructional
designers and training developers use to develop courses. The name is an acronym for the
five phases it defines for building training and performance support tools

We will be trying to apply the Addie model approach so
each tutor can adapt and teach his student based on
individual need

Step1: Analyse
Discuss and assess the student needs (Duration: 2 to 3
sessions or as appropriate )

Step2: Design (Duration: 2 to 3 sessions or as appropriate
Find content to meet student needs in step1
• Collect / create and organise study material.
• Refer to past digital content / sessions available
• Organise in folders for ready use
• Prepare to upload in whiteboard during session

Step3: Develop (Ongoing)
Analyse content to develop lesson plan
• Provide session based on students level .
• Refer to past digital content available
• Organise content in folders* for ready use
• Upload relevant content to whiteboard during session

• Re-assess student progress to adapt pace and content.
• Utilise feedback to make corrections

approach
• Encourage feedback during session
• Prepare and sent a lesson plan most suited to the
student

Step 5: Evaluation( Ongoing)
Check effectiveness of lesson plan and approach

Revisit 5 Step Salmon model
Briefly write in your notepad, your preferred approach for online tutoring:
1. What techniques will you use to engage introvert students at each stage
2. Discuss your ‘motivational methods’
3. What do you consider are indications that students have entered the
socialising stage of Salmon model
4. Discuss communication strategy at various stages of the model
5. What is the best method to utilise past sessions to improve your knowledge
of course delivery and improve learning content

Professional conduct
Tutors always need to maintain a professional
relationship with their students and must not
allow the mentoring process to cross beyond the
sessions other than ‘doubts clarifications’ using
the professional platform ( eg: edugraff account)

CHILD SAFETY
Child safe online practices and adherence to Safe policies is of paramount
important to tutors

be kept and made available to parents regularly and also anytime upon request.
For any video and/or audio-based on-line tutoring and live streamed sessions the tutor must
ensure that parents/guardians are aware of the type of interaction the child is having with the
tutor on the computer, tablet, mobile or other device being used by the student. It is a further
requirement the provider to be able to ensure, through software or human means, that all
interactions are appropriate, safe and secure. This may take the form of the parent/responsible
adult being present or within hearing range during the tutoring and being free to observe, and be
present for, each session”
