Latin American Culture And Globalization
Economy: An expanding international commitment to free trade among countries has internationalized
the market for goods; people have access to goods that were previously out of reach. Finally, in
addition to the exchange of goods across borders, traders move billions of dollars daily with the click
of a mouse. Some countries have been helped by the newly emerging economic order because they
have the resources to expand production worldwide and to create goods that are in demand
internationally. On the other hand, some countries and individuals have been hurt because they are not
able to compete with the strongest producers internationally. The United States is one of the world s
leading exporters and maintains a lead in many of the future s most promising industries, including
biotechnology, space technology, and computer software. U.S. corporations have sought a competitive
edge by taking advantage of cheap labor in Latin America and Asia. ... Show more content on

In one sense, globalization has produced strong pressures for harmonization of values around the
world, in particular, a value in universal human rights. In another important sense, globalization has
resulted in the emergence, interaction, and competition of many different value systems on the global
stage. While there have always been debate and discussion within cultures about values, globalization
has brought these debates to a global scale. Sometimes the interaction of differing value systems has
been a source of positive change and growth. The globalization of culture and values has brought
Western conceptions of democracy and liberty to many areas of the world in the last twenty five years.
In many cases, the internet and popular culture have helped to spread those ideas. Many people resent
the Americanization of the world and feel that the forces of globalization threaten their

Analyzing Dr. Brown s Play In The Classroom
Learning is child s play young children learn a lot about their world through play. Parents can
facilitate this learning by choosing toys that stimulate a child s cognitive language social, physical and
emotional development. The children of ages 3,4and 5 they are masters of make believe and they act
out grown up roles. They develop strong attachment s to favorite toys and they enjoy creating things
with their hands. (Library, 2007)
This passage takes me back to Dr. Brown s book play in the chapter parenthood is child s play. Dr.
Brown states Play actually begins to have an effect on a child even before birth at least indirectly . I

Summary Of Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Blithedale Romance
America s inception stemmed from the desire to create a society which differed from those before it.
By taking the best pieces of previous civilizations, the founding fathers strived to create a perfectly
formed society based on equality, a balance of power, and the independence of man to pursue their
own dreams. Literature of this period and more specifically the 19th century often deals with
experimentations on this very basis for society. Does one favor the individual over the community or
ignore the personal desires of the individual in favor of a collective mindset? Experimenting with the
makings of a utopia, defined by Merriam Webster as, a place of ideal perfection especially in laws,
government, and social conditions creates a serious question on the plausibility of a perfect society.
Dealing with this very quandary first hand, Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Blithedale Romance is an
experimentation on forming a perfect utopia. Within the novel, the desires of the individual are
squandered in favor of the collective. In reading Hawthorne, one gets the sense that the world is just
out of reach for him. Attaching a mysticism to everything detaches the characters from any sense of
reality, meaning that any experiment they set out on should be met with suspicion. Whereas in Henry
David Thoreau s Walden, Thoreau places the individual on a higher plane than the community. Going
into the woods, Thoreau detaches himself from society in a far different manner than Hawthorne, with

In The Computing World, Advancements Are The Order Of The
In the computing world, advancements are the order of the day, from new operating systems to new
programs, or new applications which promise to be better than the last one. While we may have tried
to keep an old operating system because of its amazing capabilities, a new operating system might
seem worth a trial. New programs, on the other hand, may not be supported by the one particular
system that we have. Many times people have had to reinstall windows because a previous crashed
due to too many programs that caused the previous one to crash. Virtual machine environments came
in as a savior to such issues. With a virtual machine environment, the computing world has never been
made any better. In fact, the future of computing looks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The virtual machine environment allows you to boot it on a disc or a live CD. The operating system
one wishes to use will then be tricked into thinking its running on a real physical computer hence it
will run like it s on a normal computer. The use of the operating system will mean that one has to open
the Virtual Machine environment first.
The virtual machine environment is very efficient in use as it can be carried on separate hardware. The
machine can be stored in a big multi gigabyte file on a hard drive in a computer or a separate hard
drive. For that reason, partition a computer for one to use it is not necessary. It is even more efficient
to use it since you can carry it with you whenever one goes to. Unlike the past where one had to have
everything in a computer which meant accessing it is only by carrying the computer around. The
virtual machine environment allows one to carry the something like a virtual computer on a hard
drive.
Nonetheless, the Virtual machine has a major setback that may make it have some inconveniences in
some situations. Since they are installed on hardware there is not real; they tend to be slower than
when the operating system is installed on a real hardware. This means that in terms of using an
operating system on a hardware and on virtual system environment it would be faster if the operating
system is on a real hardware. This makes the virtual machine environment to be inefficient in the case
of applications

Essay on Texting and Driving vs. Drunk Driving
Texting and Driving vs. Drunk Driving Over the last century, technology has helped society move
forward, making things faster and easier. Having a vehicle has allowed people to reach a destination
faster than they would if they had to ride a bike or even walk. Also the ability to now text using a cell
phone speeds up the communication process even more. With all the new technological advances you
have to many people taking advantage of it; by texting while they are driving to make business or
personal communications even faster. On the other hand you have a new technological advance
combined with the alcohol that has been around for ages. Drinking brings out a different side in every
person. You have some people that are happy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

who sent a text while driving were 35 percent worse than when they drove without any distractions at
all. When driving while intoxicated, the reaction time was only 12 percent worse than when the driver
was sober and driving without any texting distractions ( Neiger ). The third test showed; At 35 miles
an hour, Mr. Alterman s average reaction time was .57 seconds, but while texting it rose to 1.36
seconds, more than twice his average reaction time of .64 seconds while under the influence. Mr.
Brown fared better, but his average reaction time of .45 seconds rose to .52 seconds while texting,
worse than his average time of .46 seconds while driving drunk. The results of the tests at 70 miles an
hour were better in terms of reaction times. But at highway speeds, the extra distance traveled before
coming to a complete stop was much greater. For example, Mr. Alterman traveled an average of four
feet farther while driving drunk and an average of 70 feet farther while texting( Chang ). As a research
shows, texting and driving is much worse than driving while drunk. When you drive drunk it makes
your reaction time a little slower and throws your balance off a little bit. But on the other hand texting

Epiphanies In The Bean Trees
Epiphanies are central to the plots of many novels. In the novel The Bean Trees by Barbara
Kingslover, the main character, Taylor Greer, has an epiphany that changes the course of her life. After
Turtle is traumatized in the park, Taylor withdraws from her and the rest of the world, believing that
no nothing she does truly matters. As Turtle improves, Taylor realizes that her positive actions do
make the world a better place. When Turtle begins to talk again, Taylor has an epiphany and realizes
that every small compassionate action is important and that even she can help make the world a better
place. As a result of her epiphany, Taylor is more willing to help others. The positive results of Taylor

By fighting to save the most important part of her life, Taylor shows that she has realized what is truly
important. When she decides not to discuss Turtle s future in front of her, as though she simply
property, Taylor s renewed belief in small acts of kindness and the effect they can have on people, is
shown. Once more, she knows that even small acts of compassion can have large impacts on the lives
of others. The effects of Taylor s epiphany are illustrated again when she agrees to drive Estevan and
Esperanza to Oklahoma. Even though she does not want Estevan to leave, Taylor drives him and
Esperanza to Oklahoma, risking fines and jail time in the process. When Mattie warns Taylor of the
dangers of her plan, Taylor says, Just stop it, okay? Estevan and Esperanza are my friends. And, even
if they weren t, I can t see why I shouldn t do this. By saying this, Taylor s belief in the importance of
doing the right thing, even when it is dangerous, is displayed. Taylor s morals have been transformed:
bravery and integrity are now more important to her than safety and realism. She no longer withdraws
from her friends and loved ones like she did after

The Pros And Cons Of DDT
Summary of Issue:
DDT has been used since WW2 as an insecticide to control the outbreak of malaria and typhus among
troops and civilians. This is because malaria is spread by mosquitos and DDT was considered to be a
powerful in eliminating these populations, thus decreasing the infection rate for malaria. Since it was
first discovered as an insecticide, worldwide it was used in very large amounts because nobody knew
any better and it was considered to be revolutionary. It wasn t until 1962, when biologist Rachel
Carson first outlined the potential harm DDT has on the environment, believing it caused cancer in
humans and harmed bird wildlife. This led to the United Stated ban of DDT use in 1972, and later, a

Freedom In Anthem, By Ayn Rand
Today in our modern great nation, we have the freedom of speech, the right to your own life, and the
opportunity to change the way we live. At least to some extent. In the other parts of the world, people
do not always have the freedoms we have. In the story of anthem, by Ayn Rand, Equality 7 2521 lives
in a country where freedom does not exist. But rather controlled by a higher power. Equality 7 2521,
lives in a communist country. It is a sin to write this. It is a sin to think words no others think and to
put them down upon a paper no others are to see. It is base and evil. It is as if we were speaking alone
to no ears but our own. And we know well that there is no transgression blacker than to do or think

Equality is forced to do what the council orders him to do. He is given the position of a street sweeper
which to him, is not close to what his actual abilities are as a person. Equality is a very smart man with
much creativity and talent. He could become anything he would like if he were living in a country like
ours. Sadly, his government restricts and decides what he will do for the rest of his life. In our country
we have the opportunity to pursue our own careers, our goals and our way of living. For example,
some of us may want to continue our education after high school and some of us may want to join the
workforce. In the end, we decide for ourselves what our future holds. Equality makes a good point
when he talks about the right to one s life but he also makes a clear point about change. Let us flood
our cities with light, let us bring new light to man . I believe that equality is saying that there should be
new ways of thinking as far as looking at new ways of life. For example, he was discussing to his
brothers that they are capable of more than the positions they were put. The council has corrupted their
way of thinking to where they no longer question their decision. They are followers of a corrupt
system. The story of Anthem, reflects on the lives of those whose rights have been taken away, those
who suffer through the decisions of their government and those

Without intimacy there is emotional isolation, and emotional isolation increases the risk of physical

Freud s oral stage of psychosexual development). The crisis is one of trust vs. mistrust. During this
stage, the infant is uncertain about the world in which they live. To resolve these feelings of
uncertainty, the infant looks towards their primary caregiver for stability and consistency of care. If
the care the infant receives is consistent, predictable and reliable, they will develop a sense of trust
which will carry with them to other relationships, and they will be able to feel secure even when
threatened. Success in this stage will lead to the virtue of hope. By developing a sense of trust, the
infant can have hope that as new crises arise, there is a real possibility that other people will be there
as a source of support. Failing to acquire the virtue of hope will lead to the development of fear. For
example, if the care has been harsh or inconsistent, unpredictable and unreliable, then the infant will

Analysis Of The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein
In the text The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein, he wrote about a tree and a boy, which didn t really
mean that he decided to write a book about a boy who received items from a tree, he used the tree to
replace it as someone who loves the little boy. The author wanted to convey an idea of how you should
appreciate the sacrifices the people makes for you. Other people makes sacrifices for you to make you
happy. They are being generous to others. This is what Shel Silverstein wanted to convey through the
book The Giving Tree. You can tell that Shel Silverstein wanted his readers to think of the idea of
appreciating the sacrifices other people makes for you because he continuously write how the tree was
happy when she gave away and made sacrifices to make the boy happy. It made her happy and she
didn t expect anything back from the boy.

What he asked the tree for wasn t what he really what the boy needs, he is asking for what he wants
and not appreciating it. This is evident when the text states, I want to buy things and have fun. I want
some money. It also states, I want a house to keep me warm. I want a wife and I want children. Later
on in the text it states, I want a boat that will take me far away from here. As you can see, what the
boy asks is not out of need, it is out of want and he doesn t do anything that shows the appreciation of
how generous the tree is in giving him what he wants. The author shows that the tree doesn t feel
appreciated by the boys attitude by saying, And the tore was happy... but not really. This shows that
even though the tree was usually always happy when she gave away herself to the boy, this time she w
s still happy because she helped someone but she was a little sad at the way the boy kind of ignored

The Turn of the Screw is essentially an ambivalent text. Its narrative prompts divergent, even opposite
readings, but does not reconcile them. What happens remains irrevocably uncertain
James uses the prologue to the novel to introduce the themes with in this Novella but more
importantly he encourages the readers to be active in reading between the lines , and not to accept
what is said at face value , James achieves this by surrounding Douglass with a group of people who
are clearly and intently open about reading into the manuscripts further , they are critical and sceptical,
James also encourages the readers to search for sexual insinuations as Mrs Griffin does about the

She assumes he is corrupting the other learners, but instead of trying to find out what actually
happened she chooses a difficult path for herself , as the reader we can only assume that it is to win the
favour of her employer that she chooses to for full the role of the saviour.
The first supernatural account defiantly makes agreeing with the opening statement easy as there are
so many ways that Peter Quint s first sitting could be interpreted. Firstly and most obviously, as the
unknown narrator made clear that this was a ghost story, as just that a supernatural occurrence. Peter
Quint had a tie to Bly. He was the valet and as alluded to by Mrs Grose in the early chapter he liked
his girls nice and young. He would defiantly continue the corruption of the children. Or this could be a
fragment of the governess s reality in two ways. Firstly to construct some sort of evil to protect her
charges from, so she could assume the role of saviour and hero to impress her employer or it could be
because the governess was fantasising about seeing someone around the grounds , hopefully her
employer , her desire for a master makes us question the authenticity of this apparition. Her mind may
have fabricated him as a desire of sexual desire. The governess claims about the ghost become more
and more subjective as the novella progresses, she eventually concludes after a few sightings of
explicit description that

Nicole author of Terror in Horror Genres: The Global Media and the Millennial Zombie, sets out to
prove our political and cultural objectives, are inherently violent, reflective of our culture and
manifested thru the media. In fact, she states the media is responsible for this shift reflected in zombie
films as the crisis culture. I have issue with the amount of influence Nicole has given the media.

In 2007 Juan Carlos introduced a sequel to Danny s 28 days called 28 weeks later. Ironically it is more
extreme than the first. Fresnadillo centers on what Snyder did, not necessarily the fear of violence but
the fear of societies ability to suppress the violence. This helps propel these films forward, and this
influence comes from the director not the media. Since Romero s 1978 Dawn of the Dead classic the
film zombies are almost too alive, running, jumping, and screaming. News masters feed us images of
violence and urgent threats on a regular basis, why not create zombies that mimic the same. Danny
Boyle certainly took advantage of this emerging market around the world.
Diary of the Dead is different from other millennial zombie flicks in terms of how explicitly it centers

Sexual Revolution, By Beth Bailey

Bailey, Beth. Sex in the Heartland. Cambridge, Massachusetts, and London, England: Harvard
University Press, 1999.
In the book Sex in the Heartland, the author Beth Bailey provides the reader with a distinct, detailed,
and informative read of the impact in which the sexual revolution had on American culture during the
1960 s.This revolution took place in the town of Lawrence, Kansas, which Bailey refers to as the
heartland of America. As Bailey states in her introduction, Kansas is the quintessential heartland state
(4). The overall themes Bailey introduces are the dynamics of social change, as well as sexual change.
Bailey argues throughout the course of the book that there was in fact, a sexual revolution. Reflecting
of this change, Bailey writes, What were long term events resulted in gradual trends (2). These events
are what make up the sex revolution discussed throughout Bailey s book. The purpose of Sex in the
Heartland is to assess the ongoing change in cultural normalcies, and the impact the sexual revolution
had on university towns such as Lawrence. Bailey encourages readers to gain a deeper understanding
of what the revolution was in the eyes of the 1960 s American society.
Throughout the book, Bailey argues that in cities around the country in the 1960 s, the ordinary person
battled the constant struggle of both private and public sexual behaviors, which came to follow post
WWII in America. Throughout the text, Bailey

Diseases, drugs, alcohol, and the harsh living conditions often left soldiers longing for home. Veterans
coming home had to face many different situations. Most veterans who came home did not receive the
welcome they had deserved. Some veterans were homeless and unemployed after coming home. An
organization called the Vietnam Veterans against the War or the VVAW tried to help the soldiers
coming home. The organization allowed veterans to talk about their experiences to them and also tried
to get the veterans to talk to the public (Rivers 646 648). The VVAW helped the veterans throughout
the war. Many veterans who came home had emotional trauma or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
(PTSD). The United States citizens did not want to remember the war or the brave men who fought in
it (Rivers 646 647). Very few people cared about Vietnam or the soldiers during the war because of the
negative views toward the soldiers and the war. There were two main views toward the soldiers in
Vietnam; a negative view and a positive view. The negative view seemed to be the most popular
attitude towards them. The negative outlook portrayed the soldiers as the reason for the United States
involvement in the war and the reason to why the U.S. was losing. Many soldiers came back to the
U.S. and felt like a criminal (Rivers 647). The positive view saw the soldiers as heroes. This
perspective depicts the soldiers as heroic and fighting for the United States. Post traumatic stress

Managing Red Tape From The Point Of View Of A Business...
This article provided insight on managing red tape from the point of view of a business founder. The
author who founded the Virgin Group of companies describes red tape as a hinderance to startup
companies, as if its intended purpose was to limit or prevent success. The author uses his experience
with founding companies to elaborate on the cautionary measures a startup must take as it grows to

common opinion on red tape, rules, and regulations implemented by government is that they are a
hassle, they prevent success, and their purpose is to create obstacles for startup companies. Perhaps
this article s intent of advice is skewed, but it effectively raises the questions of how can red tape be

The Bombing Of Oklahoma City
The period between 1995 and 2005 is very memorable in America s history. There are several
incidences and occurrences that unfolded which helped in shaping and framing the current United
States of America. The bombing of Oklahoma City is a major epic event that still lingers in the minds
of most Americans. However, there is much to contemplate and deduce based on the incidence of 19th
April 1995. The music industry also experienced drastic changes between this time frame and
analyzing these changes is pivotal in understanding the history of America and may assist in
predicting the changes to be expected within the next one decade. Evolution and advancement in
technology are also a crucial part of the discussion of American history and the emergence of the
digital era. It is, therefore, worth appreciating and acknowledging the past since it forms part of our
identity.
Timothy McVeigh was the main accuser in the case of Oklahoma City bombing. The bomb exploded
during the early morning hours of 19th April 19, 1995. Despite being an ex military officer, Timothy
was the main conspirator, and he used a rented truck to bomb the downtown side of the Oklahoma
City. The accused had parked the truck on the rear part of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building,
which is located in the downtown of Oklahoma City. According to the FBI, the powerful bomb
mounted on the truck was made of a mixture of diesel fuel, agricultural fertilizers and traces of other
chemicals ( Oklahoma City Bombing ).

provide the mother and especially the newborn with many vital health benefits after birth, though even
today mothers do not always use it consistently as the sole form of feeding for the first six months
after birth. In order to understand attitudes surrounding breastfeeding, societal examinations should be
done. Breastfeeding is the optimal form of feeding and should be done if at all possible for the first
year of the newborns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oxytocin has positive effects on the mother s gastrointestinal system, along with decreasing the risks
of hypertension (Moberg, 2013, p. 202 203).
The release of oxytocin that occurs during breastfeeding does not only have a favorable effect on the
mother physiologically, but also psychologically. According to Moberg (2013), oxytocin functions
rather like a system activator and often influences the release of other signaling substances such as
opioids, serotonin, dopamine and noradrenaline (p. 201). These neurotransmitters can have a positive
effect on a new mother s disposition. They have been shown to decrease the amount of stress that a
new mother goes through after giving birth, increases pleasant mood, and also contributes to the
bonding experience that mothers and newborns can have while breastfeeding. Some other
psychological benefits include less feelings of anxiety and higher levels of interaction with others.
Moberg (2013) describes the kind of benefits that a mother can obtain from the anti stress affects
found through the releasing of oxytocin through breastfeeding. Statistics show that women who have
breast fed are less likely to develop stress related disease such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular
disease (p. 204). In addition to all of these benefits breast feeding mother also have lower chance of
developing post partum depression after giving birth.

Becoming Transgender In The United States
n these past few years we have seen a great deal of change in the United States. From the legalization
of gay marriage, and or the legalization of marijuana. These are things that people in the past would
think are things that should not be legalized but times change. Lately, many people not in conform
with their biological gender have been becoming the opposite sex, a transgender. Some of the most
recent well known cases of becoming transgender have to be Bruce Jenner and Rodrigo Heng song of
republican senator, Ileana Ros Lehtinen. All this talk brings up the question of whether sex is a
psychological thing, or an anatomical thing. I believe that sex is an anatomical thing and I also believe
that becoming transgender can bring negative effects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I can say this from experience because I have seen transgender people at stores, and all they do is stare
at me. It gets to the point where I just want to leave because they make me so uncomfortable. I recall
going to ,my locker about a month ago with my friend during fifth period. As we were going back to
our classroom, a girl walks by and naturally a teenage boy will look at her body. I told my friend, she
is kind of hot , to which he replied, you do know she is transgender? I was pretty much socked and
was really condues. Now I have no problem with her but what she did was uncomfortable. As she
passed between us, she was lifting her shirt and touching her but. I was uncomfortable because I tend
to see women as people who are respectful and don t do that kind of stuff. The girl did = not show any
private parts but she did make me uncomfortable. This brings me to the article, when a lawsuit in
Minnesota was placed. The transgender which is labeled, Student X , was lifting her clothes and
asking to trade body parts. Obviously this would make her peers uncomfortable. What makes it all the
,most weird, is that people consider what this girl did as something all girls do. While some girls may
dance inappropriately, I am almost positive girls don t talk about trading body

Unique Aspects of Industrial Market Segmentation
What are the Unique Aspects of Business Market Segmentation?
A business firm must define the market in which it wishes to operate.
In defining the market, business market managers choose descriptors (bases) that characterize and

firm.

But in business markets, because intermediate transactions are involved, a firm must first choose the
stage in the value adding chain before selecting the horizontal market segments.
Consider the value adding chain schematically shown in the previous diagram.
An organization would have to decide whether to sell propylene, isopropanol, isopropyl acetate
(chemical intermediates), and/or plastics.
The stage in the value adding chain where it decides to sell its output represents its choice of output

Suppose the organization chooses to sell isopropanal.
It must now decide whether to sell to producers of acetone, chemical intermediates, coatings,
agricultural and biological chemicals.
The latter decision reflects

Impact Of King Kalakaua On The Hawaiian Renaissance
A changing Nation
The Hawaiian renaissance was a time period in Hawaii s history that influenced many people during
that time. King Kalakaua created conflict between the Hawaiians and Americans. The United States of
America failed to recognize Hawaii s opposition to annexation and created compromises that made a
big impact on how Hawaii flourished culturally, politically, and economically.
Hawaiian Monarchy was slowly dying due to their powers being taken away. Hawaiian Culture was
beginning to get lost from society because more and more people were being drawn to foreign beliefs
and ways of life as the haole population continued to grow, this is initially when The First Hawaiian
Renaissance had begun. Compromises, many made by King Kalakaua, ... Show more content on

The Hawaiian Renaissance also gave natives an opportunity to fight for what they knew was right
about preserving the Hawaiian culture forever. This provided an avenue for people who did not know
Hawaiian culture to witness, and at the same time, understand what it took to preserve the culture.
Lastly, the Hawaiian renaissance had further pushed the United states to find ways to take away what
rightfully belonged to the Hawaiians, including culture, in means of agreements that were not written
on just formal documents but done without consent. Regardless, it had also drawn Hawaii as nation
under the United States. The conflicts and compromises made during this Hawaiian Renaissance
completely changed what people now know as Hawaii, and it is truly an important aspect of what it
came to be today and how the culture of Hawaiians was preserved. People all over the world,
especially those who know nothing about Hawaii or even America, should all learn about this major
time in Hawaii s history where people fought against the eradication of their culture, as their way of
life. The Hawaiian renaissance is too vague to be compared to a personal problem in life, but it shows
how with a conflict and many compromises, many things can

The Importance Of Horror Movies
When I was younger my parents used to scare me and my siblings by saying a lot of stuff. They used
to say the devil will come get us if we were acting badly. Whenever we were bad my parents used to
put on scary movies to get us scared so we would listen. Another thing they would say is that someone
will kidnap us if we didn t stay close to them at the grocery store or any store for that matter. The
experiences I had with being scared when I was little about the devil, kidnappers, etc have made me
want to watch horror movies to face my fears .There are many reasons why people watch horror
movies. Stephen King states, three things that are correct: we watch horror movies to face our fears
tand to get that certain adrenaline rush, how we go to watch horror movies to have a peculiar sort of
fun and to feel normal about ourselves. First of all, humans do watch horror movies to face the fears
they have. Strawberry Springs is a perfect example of how we crave horror to show that we can (King,
Why We 1). We can really relate to the narrator, the victims and the events that occurred in Strawberry
Spring , but we re able to feel normal about our lives when the story gets unusual. A Lot of things that
are in the story can be relatable to a lot of people young or old. The narrator connects with the younger
audience when he talks about busting his brains on essay[s] , many young students feel this way when
it comes to essays or any type of school work (King, Strawberry Spring

Democratic Presidential Debate
The race for the White House is a long and tedious process that is mobbed by campaigns events and
stump speeches, but more importantly candidates are givens the opportunity to contrast their ideas
with other candidates in televised debates. On January 17, 2016, I tuned into the Democratic
Presidential Debate that was hosted by NBC News in Charleston, SC and moderated by Lester Holt.
This debate included all three Presidential contenders: Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and Martin O
Malley. All candidates made reference to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in their opening statements
because of the King holiday being the following day. Each candidate tried their best to make an appeal
to continuing the work of Dr. King by ensuring justice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of twitter by both the viewers and the candidates are geared toward one particular goal: to try
to change the mind of voters. By candidates operating on Twitter they possess the ability to make
instant rebuttals to something that another candidate has said without having to release an official
statement or waiting until the next debate. Also in an age of social media candidates and their
campaigns believe that it is one of the most effective ways to broadcast information and connect with
voters. Twitter users also use this median as a way to make fun at a candidate s position or simply try
to convince others to change the way they have chosen to vote. Many twitter users from the
Republican party took to the social media website to bash the democratic candidates and their policy
positions. One user slammed a comment made by Governor Martin O Malley that the greatest threat
facing the United States was climate change. This made for a twitter field day with other users
implying that the democratic candidates do not take the threat of terrorism and ISIS seriously which
disqualifies them from the presidency. These type of instances can have negative effects for either
party because of how quickly a retweet can make a statement viral and could end up severely hurting a
campaign. However, this reaction did not alter my impression of the candidates or the debate at

The Change Of Size In Alice s Adventures In Wonderland
In Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, Alice changes size constantly. When she first arrives in
Wonderland, she s too big to make it through the little door into the exquisite garden; after she drinks
from the mysterious bottle, she s too small to reach the key. Once she eats the special cake, she s
enormous, but the White Rabbit s fan makes her small again. In the rabbit s house, another bottle of
mystery cordial makes her swell up and get stuck in the room; pebbles thrown in the window turn to
cakes and eating them shrinks her. At this point, Alice meets the Caterpillar, who teaches her to use
pieces of mushroom to control her size nibbling a bit from one side to get larger and a bit from the
other side to get smaller. Just when we think

Currently, there are two major of database management systems which are used to deal with data, the
first one called Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) which is the traditional relational
databases, it deals with structured data and have been popular since decades from 1970, while the
second one called Not only Structure Query Language databases (NoSQL), they have been dealing
with semi structured and unstructured data; the NoSQL term was introduced for the first time in 1998
by Carlo Strozzi and Eric Evans reintroduced the term NoSQL in early 2009, and now the NoSQL
types are gaining their popularity with the development of the internet and the social media. NoSQL
are intending to override the cons of RDBMS, such as fixed schemas, JOIN operations and handling
the scalability problems. With the appearance of Big Data,

Review Of A Fan Extension
A fan extension takes an original work and recreates it. Fan extensions are a way for admirers to pay
tribute to the stories and characters that they love and feel a connection to. Fans want to connect with
their favorite stories, to be able to comment and play around with the characters and their storyworlds.
An advancement in technology has increased opportunity for fans to participate and create new pieces
of art. José van Dijck states this perfectly, Audiences, empowered by these new technologies,
occupying a space at the intersection between old and new media, are demanding the right to
participate within the culture (2009). These fans are active members of what Henry Jenkins has termed
participatory culture, people who not only want to view and participate in the media, they want to be
able to have a lasting effect on the story. Fan created work is an important factor in today s culture,
especially our youth. People should be allowed to participate in fan creations with minimum
opposition from the copyright owners. There are a multiple types of fan created extensions and
compressions, one of which is fan films. Fan films are the ultimate way for devotees to pay tribute to
the characters they love. They allow fans the chance to show how their beloved heroes and antiheroes
should be portrayed or how they believe they should be portrayed. Fan films can take the storyworld
in a totally different direction that the entertainment companies would not be able to

Keeping People Well with Effective Public Health Practice
The well being of communities is dependent on effective public health practice.
In this assignment I will consider the statement The well being of communities is dependent on
effective public health practice. I will do this by looking at wellbeing, defining public health practice
and by looking at evidence based practice, epidemiology, policies and goals generated and their
effective application. I will also suggest why public health practice is not always as effective in
practice as it is in policy.
Achievement of wellbeing is the nation s aim, so now how do we in practice with limited resources,
political divisions, diverse demographics and actual poverty rising year on year causing 350,000
families alone to access one group of food banks last year( Trussel Trust 2013) , even begin to address
this process. The momentum of disease, poverty, isolation moving towards wellbeing, achievement
and community is the aim of all public health, an aim to improve the quality of lives lived out in a
myriad of circumstances. With this momentum for quality and change wellbeing has been recognised
as a measure for quality of life individually and in community and the Prime Minister in 2010 asked
the Office of National Statistics (ONS) to measure the nations wellbeing (Cameron, 2010) The ONS
attempted to comprehensively assess wellbeing of adults, youth and children including finance, social
and human capital , asking questions where networks with others were also seen as a measure of

Influences Of Mark Twain
Samuel Langhorne Clemons or Mark Twain is known to be one of the greatest and most influential
artists of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Not only is he intelligent and influential, he is
almost very humorist. Mark twain s work was mostly influenced by his childhood. Mark Twain was
born as Samuel Langhorne Clemens on November 30, 1835 in Florida, Missouri in a small cabin
which is now preserved and is a historic site in Missouri. He is the son of John Marshall Clemons and
Jane Lampton Clemens and is 1 of 7 children. In 1839, he and his family moved to Hannibal,
Missouri. Mr. John Marshall Clemens worked extremely hard as a Tennessee country merchant to
provide for his family until his passing in 1846 from pneumonia forcing the family into financial
hardship. Mark twain s tragic lost caused him to quit school and become a printer s apprentice from
1846 1851 with Hannibal Journal in order to take the major role his father had which was taking care
of the family. Mark Twain was greatly inspired by this and is even more inspired by his Hannibal days
which were his childhood. Mark Twain was quite an intelligent person, although he knew he couldn t
finish school because of the responsibilities he had to take, he later learned that he could be self
educated. Mark Twain learned to educate himself through life experiences and by reading in the
library in the evening on his spare time. Mark Twain was then given a promotion to become a
typesetter where he

Vo2 Max Analysis
An athlete with a VO2 max of 65 ml/kg/min will be able to perform at a high level for a longer
duration than an athlete with a VO2 max of 40 mL/kg/min. However, this relates to aerobic work.
Someone with a high VO2 max will not necessarily be able to perform at a higher capacity during
resistance exercise or short duration high intensity work, such as sprints.A complete VO2 Fitness test
can give trainers and clients the tools to set realistic goals and assess improvements. Many people are
inefficient exercisers, with no understanding of what specific heart rate, intensity or duration would
best help them reach their specific goals such as fat burning, endurance training, or cardio
conditioning. An initial VO2 Max test can clarify the specific ... Show more content on

But not all studies take into account changes in lifestyle, motivation levels, injury and many other
factors. A study done on masters runners between the ages of 50 and 82 years of age, who continued to
compete on a regular basis over a 10 year period of time, showed less decline in VO2 max compared
to their non competitive counterparts. Studies also show that a slight decline in VO2 max may be
countered by the ability to deal with greater amounts of lactic acid, an advantage found to exist in
older runners2. This could possibly explain why many endurance athletes in their late 40s and 50s are
still competitive with athletes in their 20s and 30s.You can expect to see fast finish times from top
pros in their 20s and 30s in the results of any endurance event, but now it s also common to see
athletes in their 40s and 50s almost as fast, if not at times faster. For example: the 40 44 year old male
category winner in the 2012 Boston Marathon finished in 2:23:08, just 10:28 behind the overall
winner, making him 15th overall. In Ironman events, the top 40 50 year old finishers consistently
place in the top 20 50 overall, out of thousands of participants. Even the winner of the 50 54 year old
category of the 2011 Ironman Lake Placid placed 47th overall, demonstrating that even as you age
your VO2 max may decrease but not as fast.

Nuclear Power Plants and Nuclear Waste
The purpose of a nuclear power plant is to produce electricity for supporting increases in
consumption. Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) defines nuclear energy as the energy
released by a nuclear reaction, especially by fission or fusion. In general terms, nuclear energy uses
fuel made from mined and processed uranium to make steam and generate electricity (ENEC 2011).
Nuclear power plant currently producing electricity in the U.S include the Pressurized Water Reactor
and the Boiling Water Reactor. To illustrate the importance of nuclear energy to the United States,
20% of our nation s electricity production comes from the 104 commercially operating reactors (Funk
and Socacool 2012). However, security issues surrounding nuclear power lead to the U.S nuclear
regulatory agencies imposing strict regulations on the production of nuclear energy.
As a result, development and construction time of a nuclear power plant is a complex process. Before
an applicant can start building a nuclear power plant, it must receive approval from the U.S Nuclear
Regulatory Commission. Previous regulations required that a nuclear power plant was licensed under
a two step licensing process (NRC 2004). This former process required both a construction permit and
an operating license (NRC 2004). In 1989, the NRC established an alternative licensing process which
formed a joint license between the construction permit and an operating license (NRC 2004).
Following approval from the U.S NRC

  • 2. Latin American Culture And Globalization Economy: An expanding international commitment to free trade among countries has internationalized the market for goods; people have access to goods that were previously out of reach. Finally, in addition to the exchange of goods across borders, traders move billions of dollars daily with the click of a mouse. Some countries have been helped by the newly emerging economic order because they have the resources to expand production worldwide and to create goods that are in demand internationally. On the other hand, some countries and individuals have been hurt because they are not able to compete with the strongest producers internationally. The United States is one of the world s leading exporters and maintains a lead in many of the future s most promising industries, including biotechnology, space technology, and computer software. U.S. corporations have sought a competitive edge by taking advantage of cheap labor in Latin America and Asia. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In one sense, globalization has produced strong pressures for harmonization of values around the world, in particular, a value in universal human rights. In another important sense, globalization has resulted in the emergence, interaction, and competition of many different value systems on the global stage. While there have always been debate and discussion within cultures about values, globalization has brought these debates to a global scale. Sometimes the interaction of differing value systems has been a source of positive change and growth. The globalization of culture and values has brought Western conceptions of democracy and liberty to many areas of the world in the last twenty five years. In many cases, the internet and popular culture have helped to spread those ideas. Many people resent the Americanization of the world and feel that the forces of globalization threaten their ... • 4. Summary Of Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Blithedale Romance America s inception stemmed from the desire to create a society which differed from those before it. By taking the best pieces of previous civilizations, the founding fathers strived to create a perfectly formed society based on equality, a balance of power, and the independence of man to pursue their own dreams. Literature of this period and more specifically the 19th century often deals with experimentations on this very basis for society. Does one favor the individual over the community or ignore the personal desires of the individual in favor of a collective mindset? Experimenting with the makings of a utopia, defined by Merriam Webster as, a place of ideal perfection especially in laws, government, and social conditions creates a serious question on the plausibility of a perfect society. Dealing with this very quandary first hand, Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Blithedale Romance is an experimentation on forming a perfect utopia. Within the novel, the desires of the individual are squandered in favor of the collective. In reading Hawthorne, one gets the sense that the world is just out of reach for him. Attaching a mysticism to everything detaches the characters from any sense of reality, meaning that any experiment they set out on should be met with suspicion. Whereas in Henry David Thoreau s Walden, Thoreau places the individual on a higher plane than the community. Going into the woods, Thoreau detaches himself from society in a far different manner than Hawthorne, with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. In The Computing World, Advancements Are The Order Of The In the computing world, advancements are the order of the day, from new operating systems to new programs, or new applications which promise to be better than the last one. While we may have tried to keep an old operating system because of its amazing capabilities, a new operating system might seem worth a trial. New programs, on the other hand, may not be supported by the one particular system that we have. Many times people have had to reinstall windows because a previous crashed due to too many programs that caused the previous one to crash. Virtual machine environments came in as a savior to such issues. With a virtual machine environment, the computing world has never been made any better. In fact, the future of computing looks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The virtual machine environment allows you to boot it on a disc or a live CD. The operating system one wishes to use will then be tricked into thinking its running on a real physical computer hence it will run like it s on a normal computer. The use of the operating system will mean that one has to open the Virtual Machine environment first. The virtual machine environment is very efficient in use as it can be carried on separate hardware. The machine can be stored in a big multi gigabyte file on a hard drive in a computer or a separate hard drive. For that reason, partition a computer for one to use it is not necessary. It is even more efficient to use it since you can carry it with you whenever one goes to. Unlike the past where one had to have everything in a computer which meant accessing it is only by carrying the computer around. The virtual machine environment allows one to carry the something like a virtual computer on a hard drive. Nonetheless, the Virtual machine has a major setback that may make it have some inconveniences in some situations. Since they are installed on hardware there is not real; they tend to be slower than when the operating system is installed on a real hardware. This means that in terms of using an operating system on a hardware and on virtual system environment it would be faster if the operating system is on a real hardware. This makes the virtual machine environment to be inefficient in the case of applications ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It found that drivers who sent a text had slower response times, and were more likely to drift in and out of lanes compared to drivers who were intoxicated. The study found that reaction times for those who sent a text while driving were 35 percent worse than when they drove without any distractions at all. When driving while intoxicated, the reaction time was only 12 percent worse than when the driver was sober and driving without any texting distractions ( Neiger ). The third test showed; At 35 miles an hour, Mr. Alterman s average reaction time was .57 seconds, but while texting it rose to 1.36 seconds, more than twice his average reaction time of .64 seconds while under the influence. Mr. Brown fared better, but his average reaction time of .45 seconds rose to .52 seconds while texting, worse than his average time of .46 seconds while driving drunk. The results of the tests at 70 miles an hour were better in terms of reaction times. But at highway speeds, the extra distance traveled before coming to a complete stop was much greater. For example, Mr. Alterman traveled an average of four feet farther while driving drunk and an average of 70 feet farther while texting( Chang ). It is a sin to write this. It is a sin to think words no others think and to put them down upon a paper no others are to see. It is base and evil. Is the world a safe place or is it full of unpredictable events and accidents waiting to happen? Erikson s first psychosocial crisis occurs during the first year or so of life (like Freud s oral stage of psychosexual development). The crisis is one of trust vs. mistrust. During this stage, the infant is uncertain about the world in which they live. To resolve these feelings of uncertainty, the infant looks towards their primary caregiver for stability and consistency of care. If the care the infant receives is consistent, predictable and reliable, they will develop a sense of trust which will carry with them to other relationships, and they will be able to feel secure even when threatened. Success in this stage will lead to the virtue of hope. By developing a sense of trust, the infant can have hope that as new crises arise, there is a real possibility that other people will be there as a source of support. Analysis Of The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein In the text The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein, he wrote about a tree and a boy, which didn t really mean that he decided to write a book about a boy who received items from a tree, he used the tree to replace it as someone who loves the little boy. The author wanted to convey an idea of how you should appreciate the sacrifices the people makes for you. Other people makes sacrifices for you to make you happy. They are being generous to others. This is what Shel Silverstein wanted to convey through the book The Giving Tree. You can tell that Shel Silverstein wanted his readers to think of the idea of appreciating the sacrifices other people makes for you because he continuously write how the tree was happy when she gave away and made sacrifices to make the boy happy. As you can see, what the boy asks is not out of need, it is out of want and he doesn t do anything that shows the appreciation of how generous the tree is in giving him what he wants. The author shows that the tree doesn t feel appreciated by the boys attitude by saying, And the tore was happy... but not really. The first supernatural account defiantly makes agreeing with the opening statement easy as there are so many ways that Peter Quint s first sitting could be interpreted. Firstly and most obviously, as the unknown narrator made clear that this was a ghost story, as just that a supernatural occurrence. Peter Quint had a tie to Bly. Or this could be a fragment of the governess s reality in two ways. Firstly to construct some sort of evil to protect her charges from, so she could assume the role of saviour and hero to impress her employer or it could be because the governess was fantasising about seeing someone around the grounds , hopefully her employer , her desire for a master makes us question the authenticity of this apparition. This helps propel these films forward, and this influence comes from the director not the media. Since Romero s 1978 Dawn of the Dead classic the film zombies are almost too alive, running, jumping, and screaming. Danny Boyle certainly took advantage of this emerging market around the world. The organization allowed veterans to talk about their experiences to them and also tried to get the veterans to talk to the public (Rivers 646 648). The VVAW helped the veterans throughout the war. Very few people cared about Vietnam or the soldiers during the war because of the negative views toward the soldiers and the war. There were two main views toward the soldiers in Vietnam; a negative view and a positive view. The negative view seemed to be the most popular attitude towards them. The negative outlook portrayed the soldiers as the reason for the United States involvement in the war and the reason to why the U.S. was losing. Many soldiers came back to the U.S. and felt like a criminal (Rivers 647). The positive view saw the soldiers as heroes. The author uses his experience with founding companies to elaborate on the cautionary measures a startup must take as it grows to prevent the hierarchy of bureaucracy from taking over. He is the son of John Marshall Clemons and Jane Lampton Clemens and is 1 of 7 children. In 1839, he and his family moved to Hannibal, Missouri. In general terms, nuclear energy uses fuel made from mined and processed uranium to make steam and generate electricity (ENEC 2011). Nuclear power plant currently producing electricity in the U.S include the Pressurized Water Reactor and the Boiling Water Reactor. To illustrate the importance of nuclear energy to the United States, 20% of our nation s electricity production comes from the 104 commercially operating reactors (Funk and Socacool 2012).
