This document provides an overview of an introductory administration course. It outlines the session topics, learning objectives, and activities. The session will focus on developing proofreading, formatting formal letters, and appropriate office equipment use. Students will complete literacy and skills assessments. Their specific duties depend on the type of
company, organisation, or entity where they
work.
They will generally suggest budget cuts or other
options to maximise profits and minimise costs,
when needed.
Above all, administrators need to be highly

24. Formal letter writing
• There is a hand-out available to those
who are unfamiliar with the layout of a
formal letter
• This can be used as a guide to help you
when typing up your own formal letter
• How should a formal letter be written?
25. Individual activity - follow
instructions (2.1) – Proof-reading
• Bodjit has made some mistakes in the letter. This letter is
going out to customers and is bound to give them an
impression of the company.
• Spend a few minutes reading over the letter and then
begin to make changes to the letter by correcting things
like spelling, grammar and the tone of the letter.
We will compare the changes that people made, as a group
26. Session 2 - Independent
Learning
• Identify at least 5 different ACTIVITIES that the administrator
may be expected to do in their role and describe how each one
may be done, using your own words.
• Example: (Activity) Answering telephone calls -
(Description) The administrator may get a call from a customer,
their colleague or a manager. This could be an enquiry or an
instruction. They made need to take notes whilst they are on
the telephone to ensure they have the full information. The
administrator would be polite when using the telephone and
clarify what the message is or what they are required to do.
