Thinking about the role and the organisation,
what questions may the interviewer ask you?
At least 2 – One open question and one
closed question please
Interview Masterclass
Choose one of those questions – Any of them,
not just your own… and provide a response.
What would you include in your answer?
Potential questions
1. Tell me a little bit about yourself.
Expecting skills, qualifications, knowledge, experience, values, behaviour, qualities from
person spec here. Not just a list, detail about how you can do the job
2. What do you think the role of a HCA is and what
made you decide to apply for this role?
Show clear understanding of the role here! (A Day in the life activity)
Passion and desire to work as a HCA to be included here.
3. Give an example of when you have treated people
with empathy, compassion and patience
Clear example of a particular time – Following STAR technique – Assignment 2 will help.

effectively to ensure a task was completed and/or
important information was shared
• Consider patients/customers, colleagues, families – Adapting communication for
needs – Assignment 2 will help

dealing with the public
Expecting a customer focus, being helpful, communicating well, problem-solving etc

me how you could ensure that the value was upheld in your role,
as a Healthcare Assistant
Expected to know the name of the values and how this can be demonstrated

The right to choose – Be informed. Spoken information, paper-based/electronic. How to keep information

A couple of relevant Q’s needed. Not about pay/duties because these are included in the job description!
Scenario Examples
Example:
Looking at the person specification and
thinking about the skills and experience
listed… When have you used those before?
Questions will usually start with…
Tell us about a time when you have...
Give us an example when you…
Observation scenarios
You will watch a video and be asked questions
about what you saw.
This is often about;
Did the worker do the right thing? Is so, why? If
not, what would you have done?
I have asked LTHTR to share this so I can
support you a bit more – If they send details, I
will share with you. If not, at least you know what
to look out for.
Interview preparation
What question could you ask the
interviewer? At least 1
There are a lot of resources on Moodle that
you can use to prepare for your interview,

and experiences

Assessment
information
for Friday
What you need – thinking
about assessments
• Access to a PC, laptop essential
• Stable internet connection
• Webcam/video capability, with sound/mic – Need to be on throughout the
assessment session
• Photo ID
• Good lighting – Not dark on camera
• Facing camera – So you can be seen clearly
• Clear desk – No notes, mobile access etc.
• No-one else in the room with you and no-one likely to pop in
• You have been to the bathroom BEFORE your assessment starts 
You will be recorded on camera/mic via Big Blue Button and will be
accessing the Moodle course to complete the modules.
How do the assessments run?
• Assessments are taken in small groups, a little bit
like the live sessions but with much less talking 
• We are able to block learner cameras from each
other and this is how the ID check and room sweep
is done, whilst maintaining confidentiality
• You will be required to do a sweep of the room,
using your camera to show us your surroundings
and desk space
This is to check that no-one is there with you, you
have no notes or devices that can give you an
unfair advantage during the assessment.
How do the assessments run?
• The assessments will be monitored by me and once
you complete the first one, type ‘Done’ in the chat
pane. Scores checked after everyone has completed
the first assessment. You are required to wait whilst
everyone has finished the first assessment before
moving on.
• There will be a comfort break (2/3 minutes) after the
first assessment and you will be able to talk during that
time. You will be encouraged to turn your sound
down whilst you are taking the assessment to
minimise distraction.
How do the assessments run?
Mandatory – Everyone will take
• Understanding how to be successful – 20 Q’s – 65% to
pass
• Equality & Diversity – 30 Q’s – 67% to pass
• Mental Health & Well-being – 24 Q’s – 67% to pass
These are hidden until you are in the assessment
meeting, at the allocated time
What do you gain from passing the
end assessments?
AIM Qualifications - Extended Award in
Employability Skills Level 1
• Equality & Diversity at work
• How to be successful
AIM Qualifications - Optional modules – Single units
• Mental Health & Well-being: Fundamentals
Certificates will be posted out to your address
once all details are verified with the awarding
body – This does take time so make a note of
these
After Assessments
At the end of each assessment, you will know
if you have achieved the module as your
score will appear and you will be able to see
feedback if there is any.
You will be sent details of training you have
completed on the programme.
The NHS may ask us about achievement of
the programme.
Further development
Interview preparation/Top Tips section
Useful NHS/LTHTR links to further your understanding of
the organisation and topics likely to arise during interview
There are also quite a few un-accredited modules available
further down with topics that are relevant to the care
environment.
You are more than welcome to use these to enhance your
knowledge – These kinds of things are good for personal
development and can be added to a CV/future application
as CPD you have undertaken
Programme Feedback
Tomorrow, you will receive an automated email from College,
with a link, asking you for feedback about your time with us.
This link is unique to you and is one of the ways the College
captures feedback. The questions are all about your journey
from enrolling to completing.
Please check that you have received this and complete it so
that the College can get a good idea of your
journey/satisfaction/achievements.
If you haven’t received it by lunch-time tomorrow, then please
let me know via email and I can send the unique link to you.
