 As a health and social care worker it is
important to think of a variety of activities to
offer service users.
 Lets create a Thought Shower why gardening
could be beneficial for people.

 Create a leaflet to highlight the benefits of
gardening to service users.
 What fruit and vegetables could you produce?
A person can burn 300
calories doing one
hour of moderately
active gardening
Did you know
 What leisure or social activities can a person do
in their own home?
 What is residential care?
As people grow older they may want to live
somewhere where they can have a good quality of
life but with a bit more help with activities of daily
living.
As a support worker what leisure and social
activities could you organise?
 You are the activity coordinators at Primrose
Residence and you need to prepare a themed
activity for the residents to stimulate their
memories that is both fun and engaging.
 Remember some of the residents might have a
physical disability such as arthritis or they may
have dementia.
 Put together a list activities with reasons why
you have chosen them.

 Nikki buys items that cost £11.74. She pays
with a £20 note.
 How much change is she given?
 You give Nikki her change in the smallest
possible number of notes and coins.
 What notes and coins do you give her?
 Identify a range of four activities that take
place in the community
 Describe why clubs are important for
supporting relationships
 Outline four activities a person can do
within day care provision
 Assess the impact of leisure and social
activities on peoples quality of life
 Evaluate the benefits of leisure and social
activities
 Catch the ball and name a social or leisure
activity.
 Spot the health and safety hazards
 You are observing some creative and leisure
activities. What is wrong with the following?
 A user of service is enjoying a cooking activity,
but has a cut on their hand that is not covered
by a plaster or disposable glove.
 A group of adults are taking part in an outdoor
game of rounders ,but the wooden bats are old
and falling apart.
 Think about activities available in the
community.
 Day care can be for children or may be for
older people or people with disabilities who
live in their own homes independently but may
need some support.
 Social services provide day care for people who
may be socially isolated and lonely.
 Remember we will be visiting Lockswood Day
Care Centre
 When the music stops pick a card and talk
about the activity you find.
 Where would the activity take place:-

 Day care provision
 Add to your display leisure and social activities
to do :-

 Complete the sheet to demonstrate your
knowledge and understanding of activities.

as many different indoor or outdoor activities for
children.
When the time is up please move to the next sheet

  • 3.  Identify the benefits of gardening as a leisure activity  Describe why it is important to develop interests to do in your own home  Establish four activities a person can do in a residential or group living home  Critically evaluate the effect of social and leisure activities on development
  • 4.  How do activities support relationships?
  • 5.  As a health and social care worker it is important to think of a variety of activities to offer service users.  Lets create a Thought Shower why gardening could be beneficial for people. Timer
  • 6.  Gardening as a therapeutic activity. Thrive
  • 7.  Create a leaflet to highlight the benefits of gardening to service users.  What fruit and vegetables could you produce? A person can burn 300 calories doing one hour of moderately active gardening Did you know

  • 9.  What leisure or social activities can a person do in their own home?
  • 10.  What is residential care? As people grow older they may want to live somewhere where they can have a good quality of life but with a bit more help with activities of daily living. As a support worker what leisure and social activities could you organise?
  • 11.  You are the activity coordinators at Primrose Residence and you need to prepare a themed activity for the residents to stimulate their memories that is both fun and engaging.  Remember some of the residents might have a physical disability such as arthritis or they may have dementia.  Put together a list activities with reasons why you have chosen them.

  • 18.  Nikki buys items that cost £11.74. She pays with a £20 note.  How much change is she given?  You give Nikki her change in the smallest possible number of notes and coins.  What notes and coins do you give her?
  • 19.  Identify a range of four activities that take place in the community  Describe why clubs are important for supporting relationships  Outline four activities a person can do within day care provision  Assess the impact of leisure and social activities on peoples quality of life  Evaluate the benefits of leisure and social activities
  • 20.  Catch the ball and name a social or leisure activity.
  • 21.  Spot the health and safety hazards  You are observing some creative and leisure activities. What is wrong with the following?  A user of service is enjoying a cooking activity, but has a cut on their hand that is not covered by a plaster or disposable glove.  A group of adults are taking part in an outdoor game of rounders ,but the wooden bats are old and falling apart.
  • 22.  Think about activities available in the community.
  • 23.  Day care can be for children or may be for older people or people with disabilities who live in their own homes independently but may need some support.  Social services provide day care for people who may be socially isolated and lonely.  Remember we will be visiting Lockswood Day Care Centre
