The medical model of dementia describes the
physical problems of the condition, for example,
being unsteady, being unable to talk, being unable
to wash or dress or eat independently.

• The social model of dementia thinks
about society’s attitude to dementia. The
social model does not see the person with
the illness or disease as the problem, it
sees society as the problem.
