Implementing Intentional Conversations into Your Residence Life and Curriculu...Paul Brown
In some residential education departments, 1-1 student staff-to-resident conversations have replaced programming as a main method of educational outcomes achievement. These conversations also feature prominently in designs for residential curricula. In this session, participants will learn how to implement effective interactions through intentionally developed guides and prompts. Additional topics include staff selection and training as well as assessment techniques.
Originally presented in March of 2018 at the ACPA - College Student Educators Intentional Convention in Houston, Texas.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
3. Why do instructors give feedback?
• To help you improve on future assignments
• To clarify expectations on assignments
• To help students master the material and build a firm
understanding of a topic
4. What makes good feedback?
• It is educational
• It can be used as a reference for future work
• It is constructive
• It is clear and provides a clear path for making improvements
6. Things to keep in mind when you
receive feedback
• It isn't personal
It can be hard to hear feedback, but it isn't a reflection of
your personal worth
• It doesn't mean that you are "bad" at a course/skill
• This provides an opportunity to improve your skills!
7. What do we do with the feedback
we're given?
• Tackle any easy problems first:
Spelling, grammar, syntax, math errors, incorrect
definitions, etc.
• When it comes to clarity: Try reading your work out loud to
hear what it sounds like to others.
• Return to you notes/sources to find details to include
• Look for additional help from friends, tutors, or other
instructors
• After making changes, check back in to get more feedback
8. How do you ask for feedback?
• Some instructors don't provide feedback for all assignments; so
how do you ask for that feedback?
• First, double check that feedback isn't "hidden" on BbLearn
• Sometimes you have to click through several pages to see the
feedback
• Send an email or drop by office hours to connect with the professor
• Be specific with your request:
• Be clear about what assignment you'd like feedback on
• Don’t wait till the end of the semester
9. How do you ask for feedback?
• Need feedback on more than just your past assignments?
• Check out the Writing Center to get feedback on your writing
• Meet with a tutor to get feedback on assignments before you turn
them in
• Connect with Career Services to get feedback on materials for jobs
• Seeking out feedback is a great skill to learn in college! It will come
up all through life.
10. How do you provide feedback?
• Some classes require you to give feedback for your peers on
assignments
• Ensure that your feedback is constructive
• Provide clear tips on how your peers can improve their work
• Be mindful of your language: think of how you'd like to hear
feedback
• Concentrate on things that can be fixed:
• Grammar, syntax, word choice, math errors etc.
• Lack of evidence, confusing language, unclear work/methods
11. Example language:
• There is some confusion about what you saying. Consider changing
your wording to make your argument clearer.
• It looks like there are some spelling and grammar errors. I've
highlighted/circled them.
• Great work! I enjoyed how detailed your story was.
• Overall the paper was well written. Adding a bit more detail to your
methods section could really take it to the next level. Can you
explain the process you used in more detail?
12. So why is developing this skill
useful?
• We give and receive feedback every day. Learning how to use the
feedback were given, and give good feedback to others, will help us
in many aspects of life.
• Let's check this video out to hear
more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtl5UrrgU8c
