MASTER PLAN OF THE SITE
10
CONSTRUCTION SITE
11
 Lump sum Contract
• A lump sum contract is normally used in the construction industry to reduce design and contract
administration costs. It is called a Lump Sum because the contractor is required to submit a total and
global price instead of bidding on individual items. A lump sum contract is the most recognized
agreement form on simple and small projects, for example, projects with a well-defined scope or
construction projects where the risk of different site conditions is minimal.
 Design and build contract
• Design-build is a method of project delivery in which one entity - the design-build team - works
under a single contract with the project owner to provide design and construction services. One
entity, one contract, one unified flow of work from initial concept through completion. Design-build
is also known as design/construct and single-source responsibility.
 Item rate contract
• These contracts are also known as unit-price contracts or schedule contracts. For item rate contracts,
contractors are required to quote rates for individual items of work on the basis of a schedule of
quantities furnished by the customer. The contractor bears almost no risk in these contracts, except
escalation in the rates of items quoted by the contractor, as it is paid according to the actual amount
of work on the basis of the per-unit price quoted.

Bar-Bending Schedule
Bar-bending-schedule is the schedule of reinforcement bars prepared in advance before
cutting and bending of rebars. This schedule contains all details of size, shape and
dimension of rebars to be cut.
20
• Lap length
• Lap length is the length overlap of bars tied to extend the
reinforcement length.. Lap length about 50 times the diameter of the
bar is considered safe. Laps of neighboring bar lengths should be
staggered and should not be provided at one level/line. At one cross
section, a maximum of 50% bars should be lapped. In case, required
lap length is not available at junction because of space and other
constraints, bars can be joined with couplers or welded .
• Anchorage Length
• This is the additional length of steel of one structure required to be
inserted in other at the junction. For example, main bars of beam in
column at beam column junction, column bars in footing etc.
21
Cover blocks:-
*Cover blocks are placed to prevent the steel rods from touching
the shuttering plates and there by providing a minimum cover and
fix the reinforcements as per the design drawings. Sometimes it is
commonly seen that the cover gets misplaced during the
concreting activity. To prevent this, tying of cover with steel bars
using thin steel wires called binding wires is recommended.
Covers should be made of cement sand mortar (1:3). Ideally,
cover should have strength similar to the surrounding concrete,
with the least perimeter so that chances of water to penetrate
through periphery will be minimized. Provision of minimum
covers as per the Indian standards for durability of the whole
structure should be ensured.
*However, cover indicates thickness of the cover block.
Normally, cubical cover blocks are used. As a thumb rule,
minimum cover of 2” in footings, 1.5” in columns and 1” for
other structures may be ensured.

SAFETY
The company has observed various safety norms as per ISO standards
and medical kits are available at the site. Various safety measures have
been taken as shown below
25
It was a wonderful learning experience at DLF LIMTED
site in Gurugram. I gained a lot of insight regarding
almost every aspect of site. I was given exposure in
almost all the departments at the site . All the
employees were forthcoming in sharing their experiences .
I am thankful to all the employees of MACE , L&T, DLF
and other involved companies in the project. I hope this
experience will surely help me in shaping my career.

  • 12.  Lump sum Contract • A lump sum contract is normally used in the construction industry to reduce design and contract administration costs. It is called a Lump Sum because the contractor is required to submit a total and global price instead of bidding on individual items. A lump sum contract is the most recognized agreement form on simple and small projects, for example, projects with a well-defined scope or construction projects where the risk of different site conditions is minimal.  Design and build contract • Design-build is a method of project delivery in which one entity - the design-build team - works under a single contract with the project owner to provide design and construction services. One entity, one contract, one unified flow of work from initial concept through completion. Design-build is also known as design/construct and single-source responsibility.  Item rate contract • These contracts are also known as unit-price contracts or schedule contracts. For item rate contracts, contractors are required to quote rates for individual items of work on the basis of a schedule of quantities furnished by the customer. The contractor bears almost no risk in these contracts, except escalation in the rates of items quoted by the contractor, as it is paid according to the actual amount of work on the basis of the per-unit price quoted. • 20. Bar-Bending Schedule Bar-bending-schedule is the schedule of reinforcement bars prepared in advance before cutting and bending of rebars. This schedule contains all details of size, shape and dimension of rebars to be cut. 20
  • 21. • Lap length • Lap length is the length overlap of bars tied to extend the reinforcement length.. Lap length about 50 times the diameter of the bar is considered safe. Laps of neighboring bar lengths should be staggered and should not be provided at one level/line. At one cross section, a maximum of 50% bars should be lapped. In case, required lap length is not available at junction because of space and other constraints, bars can be joined with couplers or welded . • Anchorage Length • This is the additional length of steel of one structure required to be inserted in other at the junction. For example, main bars of beam in column at beam column junction, column bars in footing etc. 21
  • 22. Cover blocks:- *Cover blocks are placed to prevent the steel rods from touching the shuttering plates and there by providing a minimum cover and fix the reinforcements as per the design drawings. Sometimes it is commonly seen that the cover gets misplaced during the concreting activity. To prevent this, tying of cover with steel bars using thin steel wires called binding wires is recommended. Covers should be made of cement sand mortar (1:3). Ideally, cover should have strength similar to the surrounding concrete, with the least perimeter so that chances of water to penetrate through periphery will be minimized. Provision of minimum covers as per the Indian standards for durability of the whole structure should be ensured. *However, cover indicates thickness of the cover block. Normally, cubical cover blocks are used. As a thumb rule, minimum cover of 2” in footings, 1.5” in columns and 1” for other structures may be ensured. • 26. It was a wonderful learning experience at DLF LIMTED site in Gurugram. I gained a lot of insight regarding almost every aspect of site. I was given exposure in almost all the departments at the site . All the employees were forthcoming in sharing their experiences . I am thankful to all the employees of MACE , L&T, DLF and other involved companies in the project. I hope this experience will surely help me in shaping my career. CONCLUSION:- 26
