This document proposes and evaluates a Forced Wake Up method to reduce energy consumption in Wireless Body Area Sensor Networks (WBASNs). The key points are: 1) In the Forced Wake Up method, one node is active to monitor the body while other nodes sleep to conserve energy. Only if abnormal readings are detected will all nodes be forcibly woken up to monitor. 2) Periodically a different node is selected to be active, distributing energy usage evenly across nodes. 3) Simulations show the Forced Wake Up method increases network lifetime compared to normal and cyclic sleep methods by keeping most nodes in low-power sleep states except when all nodes are needed.
