Shen s Room Dialectical Journal
Shen s Room As Shen watches Aixin happily winding up his toy bunny, he walks over, bends
down next to Aixin and asks, Bunny, you really like that toy huh? Aixin gives him a big smile
and nods his head and says excitedly, Shen, do you want one to. It very fun to play with. Shen
chuckles and says, no. I already have a bunny. Aixin gives him a confuse look and says, Really?!
How come i ve never seen it. Are you lying to me. Shen chuckles at him and says, I would never
lie to you. Aixin quickly stood up and enthusiastically asks, Then can i see it please! But shen just
laughs and says, How bout I show you a real bunny instead. With that, Aixin shakes his head
excitedly at him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

have to wait for a few hours and you ll see them. After a couple of hours has past, Shen took
Aixin back to the garden and as they near it, Aixin can hear soft rustling sounds coming from the
inside the box and excitedly points to the box while he turns to Shen and whispers, Look! I think
there are bunnies inside. Seeing how excited Aixin is, Shen could help but chuckle as he goes to
open the box and take out a small white bunny. Upon seeing the little thing in Shen s hand, Aixin

Puerto Rican Music and Its Significance Essay
Puerto Rican Music and Its Significance
Although the policies of Americanization and degradation of Puerto Rican culture heritage
improved by the United States in Puerto Rico during the early decades of the twentieth century, the
utmost concern for the United States was the strategic location of the island for political and
economic advantages, not of the people who inhabited it. Puerto Rico, though a poor colony, was a
rich cultural spot in an area of dynamic cultural influence of the Caribbean. One aspect of the
Puerto Rican culture that was greatly influenced by its location in the Caribbean and by its
repossession by the United States is music. Music permeated the daily life of Puerto Ricans
(Waxer, Oct. 29). Music was the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus the bomba became known as talking drums (Glasser, 1995).
The plena, another typical form of Puerto Rican music, was considered the singing newspaper. It
was developed at the turn of the century by a lower class mulato population (made up of Puerto
Rican freed slaves and migrants from the English Antilles) on the coast. Themes for the music
came from the idiosyncrasies and normalcies of daily life, and was incorporated through a
narrative verse taken from the Spanish music culture through call and response . Call and
response, another African influence, is a component of traditional African musical expression in
which a phrase is sung (chanted by part of a group of people and that phrase is responded to by a
refrain by the other part of the group. Call and response is a component of the bomba, the plena,
and the danza and still exists today as an important ingredient of Puerto Rican music. It facilitates
dialogue, and encourages a sense of community by enabling more people to join in, which then
closes the gaps between classes and races (Waxer, Oct. 29).
The third traditional form of Puerto Rican music is the danza. This genre, developed by mulato
artisans in late nineteenth century, reflected the race, class, and nationality issues which were
present at that time. As the plena and the bomba had African roots, the danza had roots in English,
French, and

Alberta, Canad A Short Story
It s December 17, 2002 ,5:46pm in Alberta, Canada there s a bitter burning smell in the air as I
return home to my mother. The long drive gives me time to think about the argument we had
this morning and I m full of regret of all the hurtful things we said. All because I didn t want to
discuss my father s passing 4 years ago. As I approach our dreadfully long driveway, I see smoke
black as night in the distance, them red and blue flashing lights with police tape blocking off our
red colonial home. I rush out of my car leaving my car on and begin to feel numb. I fall to the
ground as an officer tries to catch me, but misses and I hit the gray gravel in my driveway. With

Why Gluten Is Bad
Gluten is in everything. While some believe gluten diets are worth it, others will do it because a
lot of people are doing it. Gluten diets are not beneficial because it is needed for your immune
system, and the lack of fiber can hurt you.
First of all,The main reason why people need gluten is for their body s health. For example, people
need gluten specifically in the immune system. Gluten can help fight cancer in your Immune
system. High gluten bread improves triglyceride levels, which is good for your blood. One month
of no gluten can hurt your body. That s one reason why I think gluten diets are not worth it.
A second reason we need gluten is because it provides fiber for people s diet. For instins, People

Paving the Way: How Financial Aid Awareness Affects College Access and Success
Literature Review
October 2008 In a time of ever rising college costs, financial aid is critical to increase college
access and success. Federal, state, and institutional aid programs help to ensure that students can
afford higher education regardless of economic background. Financial aid is most effective when
students and families learn about it early enough to make the right choices and plans about high
school coursework, family savings, work and earnings, and college options. This literature review
explores the questions of how and when students and families learn about college costs and
financial aid, and how the timing and substance of that information ... Show more content on

compared to half of White parents. Similarly, 83 percent of Latino parents do not mention grants

2003). Most Latino non college going youths can not name one source of financial aid (Zarate

say they need more information about how to pay for college, compared to only 44 percent of
White parents (Sallie Mae Fund and Harris Interactive 2003). d) Some students have inaccurate
perceptions of their eligibility for financial aid. i) Many current and former community college
students, especially those from two parent households, assume that their household income is too
high to make them eligible for federal financial aid (Matus Grossman and Gooden 2002). ii) In
California, far fewer Latino students than are eligible actually apply for Cal Grants because they
erroneously believe that high grades are required (Zarate and Pachon 2006). iii) Many low income
students who do not apply for financial aid believe that they do not need financial aid. Twenty nine

The World s First Debate On Morality
In 11th Century, The Spanish Empire sent men to conquer the Americas and they discovered
natives in the area. As a result of their interactions with the natives, a debate as to how they
should treat or interact with the natives got to a boiling point, and was settled in a debate in
Valladolid in 1550, with two men defending either side of the world s first debate on morality.
One of these men was BartolomГ© de las Casas, a Dominican Catholic friar who spent some time
with the American Natives, and debated to defend them against any harsh rule or handling by the
hands of the Spanish. On the other end was Juan GinГ©s de SepГєlveda, an Aristotelian
philosopher, argued for the enslavement of these natives due to the superiority of the Spanish over
them. They both held strong convictions about their arguments, however Las Casas argument was
made more effectively because he was more rational in his argument. Alternatively, SepГєlveda
chose an exaggerated appeal to emotions as his approach for the argument he was making.
SepГєlveda appeals to emotion in a variety of ways one of them being exaggerated language. In
the beginning of his Treatise on the Just Causes of War against the Indians , he asked, what
moderation or mildness can you expect of men who are given to all kinds of intemperance and
wicked lusts, and who eat human flesh? The colorful use of words such as mildness and moderation
in contrast with accusations of intemperance (gluttony), wicked lusts and

Art Criticism Of The Gold Lustreware Bowl By Galileo Chini
A Gold Lustreware Maiolica Bowl by Galileo Chini
(fig.1) Maiolica bowl polychrome gold, grey and bronze colour. Circa 1902 1904.Galileo Chini. L
Arte della Ceramica Fontebuoni, Florence. Museo Galileo Chini, Borgo San lorenzo.
The gold lustreware bowl by Galileo Chini is an object which could seem on first glance devoid
of special significance: just a beautiful decorative object enjoyed at face value. (Fig.1) But in the
seeming void I saw a repository of layered meanings which I attempted to interpret by examining
the artistic cross cultural influences in Florence in the late nineteenth century. And to address the
question of why the Mediaeval Hispano Moresque gold lustreware and the design motifs of the
Gothic Revivalist repertoires were found on this bowl. I examine why Chini became inspired to use
these designs and what they may have meant to him.
In this essay I will examine why there was a taste for lustreware in the Florentine workshops and
how their clients saw themselves reflected by these golden objects. ... Show more content on

The ceramics produced by Galileo Chini show a large repertoire of historical motifs and cross
cultural influences which blended to create a unique creation and distinctly Stile Liberty. From my
own observations of his artistic output I would suggest that Chini did not imitate Renaissance
maiolica to attract a certain erudite clientele, as in the case of the Cantagalli workshop, but
developed his own voice adapting design motifs from the past and projecting them into a new
language which is demonstrably modern

Skeletal, Smooth, and Cardiac. The three kinds of muscles are different in some ways and they
do have things in common. Almost 650 of the 700 muscles in the human body are skeletal
muscles. Skeletal muscles are also known as voluntary muscles because we can voluntarily
control their movements. An example, humans choose to use skeletal muscles when they flex
their arm muscles or run laps around a track. Your Skeletal muscles are arranged in the body so
that they are held in a slight stretch over the joint. If your leg muscles for instance, were entirely
relaxed while you were standing up your legs would buckle and you would fall in a heap. Skeletal
muscles are often attached from one side of the bone over the joint to the end of another bone.
Skeletal muscles function in pairs or groups like a team. Usually, these muscles pairs or groups are
Antagonistic. This means that they work against one another while one or more muscles in the pair
or group contract, or get smaller and thicker, the other relax, or get bigger and thinner. Muscles can
pull bones, but they can t push them. Without other muscles in the pair or group to pull a bone back
would remain in the same position forever. Smooth muscles power movement that we don t control
this is why the smooth muscles are called involuntary muscles. The body s nervous system
automatically controls the smooth muscles. Functions powered by these muscles involve breathing,
digestion

English IV
10/16/17The Stranger
The Stranger was originally written by Albert Camus in French. It was later translated into English
and some of its meaning must have been lost. The original title was L etranger which translates
loosely to many different words. Meursault is a character of scarce conversation, as well as emotion
. But Meursault shows clear evidence of sociopath that is not conscious of his mind or his
emotions. Maman died today Or yesterday maybe, I don t know (Camus 3) That doesn t mean
anything, Maybe it was yesterday. The opening sentences of the strangerexemplify Meursault s
existential character. Which therefore leaves him with an emotional indifference and a detachment
from the people around him and his complete detachment from the rest of society around him.
Meursault is an odd character, he is portrayed to the point that he can no longer return to his
current emotions. Meursault seems as if he isn t able to think for himself seeing that there were
countless incidents where Raymond who is his neighbor, was able to persuade Meursault. ( I ve
got some blood sausage and some wine at my place. How about joining me? ). I figured it would
save me the trouble of cooking for myself, so I accepted, It s very typical for Meursault to jump
into a relationship with someone he just met and not for any good

Examples Of Observational Learning
Application Paper Every weekend my 4 year old son goes to his grandparents house on his father
s side of the family. He really looks up to his grandfather because his real father is in Argentina
so he looks at his grandpa as his papa but when he comes back home from their house he is a
completely different person. He no longer uses the words please and thank you, he says the F
word constantly, and he does not share anything with anyone especially snacks with his little
brother. His grandfather tends to swear too much and this favorite word to say is fuck , he does
not say please or thank you and I know this because we lived with them for months, and he never
shares anything with my son even if he asks for a bite of his food he will always say no and give
him his own plate or snack. My oldest sons behavior of repeating and doing what his grandfather
says and does is called observational learning which is when we observe and imitate other
people s behaviors, especially those we respect and admire because they are our role models as
children (Ochman, 2015,p.14 15). This situation is a perfect example of observational learning

Quantitative Research. Essay
Statement 1
Proverbs 25:2 says, It is the glory of God to conseal things, but the glory of kings is to search
things out. Qualitative research focuses on deeper issues and asked the questions of how, when
and why people do things. Quantitative research behaves in a quantified since and assigns
numerical values to responses and measure statics. With this said Proverbs, the bible verse,
supports that research methods can be Godly. I interpret that verse as meaning that it is important
to know and confirm in your mind that you know something, but it is better to research the topic
in a biblical since rather thas a secular or worldly since. the glory of kings is researching and

With this said Qualitative Research in non statical and most of their cases are non represented cases
and full fill a given time line. This method is best because it investigates information and gives a
better understanding for future decision making. This method does this without making general
observations about the population of interest.
Statement 2
Quantitative research methods are best because they use quantity data to obtain results from the
population of interest. This for example can be bases on what the majority feels. The method uses
measures in the view and opinion of others and who feels them the most or less. This method can
be chosen at random representing the population of interest. They collect their data by telephone
interviews, online questionnaires, and sometimes on the street. This is usually the final and best
method to go to when choosing a course of action. This is best to research something further and
usually comes after Qualitative research. 1 Chronicles 29:17 I know, my God, that you examine
our hearts and rejoice when you find integrity there. You know I have done all this with good
motives, and I have watched your people offer their gifts willingly and joyously .

Bitter Political Enemies
In Badger s and Choksi article How We Became Bitter Political Enemies as published by the New
York Times, the authors discuss the matter of the worsening political relations between the
Democrat and Republican party. This article presents the sore relations of the two parties as an
occurrence that has only significantly worsened over the last 50 years due to both sides of the
aisle fostering a growing animosity towards the other side. The animosity, however, has evolved
from disagreeing over policies and legislation, to outright disliking someone just due to the party
they represent. As a result, the Democrat and Republican party tension has become more personal
over recent decades, and bipartisanship has suffered due to this. Those who identify as either a
Democrat or Republican view the other party through a negative lens. For example, Badger and
Choksi concluded that individuals who affiliated with one of the two parties perceive that the

Temperature In The Middle Ages Essay
The topic is about whether temperatures were actually warmer in the Middle Ages than they are
today. If so, why? If no, why not? I believe it is important because to know our past is to predict
our future. The knowledge of what the temperatures were like fifteen hundred years ago, with little
human interference, is the perfect way to create a scenario of today s climateand the how s and why
s. However, going down this rabbit hole one may uncover uncomfortable facts about our current
predicament. Answers found in both the past and the present could be disturbing. The Medieval
Warm Period took place between the 10th and 15th centuries. During this era, ice free seas far to
the north allowed the Vikings to settle Greenland and sail from Norway, Sweden, Briton and
France on a regular basis with no trouble from the cold or sea ice. North America was in the grip
of a grave drought. But just how warm was the Medieval Warm Period? To answer... Show more

Atlantic, northern Europe, China, and parts of North America. Other studies retain evidence that
the temperature conditions of certain regions, such as, South America, and other locations in the
Southern Hemisphere, were no different from those of today. It is often pointed out that the MWP
was a flourishing time in European history. This particular period saw the Vikings from the far
North travel and raid northern communities at will. To me, the exploration and colonization of the
New World, Iceland, and Greenland in relatively tiny vessels, manned only by oarsmen and sails is
the foremost factor in the telling of climate conditions. Those seas would not be traversal in this
day and age. Also, proof of warmer temperatures in northern Europe, can be found in records of

This effect trickle down to the woman in the village, whom all she had known to do all her life
is to combine many things together at the same time, like carrying a breastfeeding baby on her

How pathetic it will be for her to go through all that stress, and at the end of the day she loses the

Judicial branch interprets the laws and uses the interpretations to decide whether certain cases or
events fail to follow the constitution or not. The Supreme Court is the head court that consists of
justices chosen by the president and approved by the senate. The number of justices is decided by
the senate. As of now, there are nine justices. The current Chief Justice is John G. Roberts, Jr.
Other federal courts are also part of the Judicial Branch. Through checks and balances, the three
branches maintain equal amounts of power. For instance, the executive branch confirms on the
law propositions that the legislative branch makes, and then the judicial branch makes sure that
law is constitutional. Power is also given to state governments. Individual states also follow the
three branch system. In Georgia, the executive branch is led by a governor; currently, Nathan

APUSH DBQ: Jacksonian Democrats
Andrew Jackson became known as the war hero after the Battle of New Orleans. His victory over
the Indians in the battle helped his public recognition and increased his popularity in society. In the
election of 1820, Andrew Jackson ran for presidency and won with flying colors. Jackson s humble
background gave him an edge over other candidates he was the voice for the common man and
endorsed the idea of national democracy. His years in office was named the Jacksonian era as he
changed the views and ideas of politics forever. Jackson s supporters called themselves the
Jacksonian democrats and viewed themselves as the guardians of the United States Constitution,
political democracy, individual liberty, and equality of economic opportunity. Although this is true
to a certain extent, Jackson advocated what he thought would be beneficial to the common man.
Jackson spread the equality of economic opportunities and remained loyal to the constitution, but
fell short when considering individual liberties and political democracy. Jacksonian Democrats
guarded the equality of economic opportunities. Since Jackson came from a middle class family
and understood the hardships the common citizen faced, he made sure that power was held in the
majority of the citizens as opposed to the limited wealthy elite class. Jackson vetoed the national
bank because he believed it would place a majority of

Statistics: It is said that black money in India accounts for 20 % of GDP. If this is true, then
black money generated every year must be around Rs 400,000 crore or $ 80 billion. This is a
huge amount, more than the entire budget of the government at the Centre. We have a government

the printing of currency notes on a large scale. The biggest chunk of black money is invested in
real estate and gold. The circulation of black money in the housing sector is beyond imagination.
Since the house tax is based on the current purchase price only one fourth of the money is paid by

History: The period 1946 61 was one of the intense creativity. A black or parallel economy emerged
both in the wake of the Second World War and the expansion of the economic activity in the post
independence period. Incentives were provided through the taxation laws to promote savings and
investment; this made the tax laws more complex. Then, there was the need for larger revenues to
finance the plans of economic development. Thorough investigations were, therefore, conducted

Cannabis Destroy Cancer Cells
How Cannabis Entirely Destroys Cancer Cells?
Cannabis is usually considered to be a harmful substance. There is a commonly shared opinion that
this plant has an addictive nature and that it is responsible for damaging both your mental and your
physical health, which is why it s illegal in most of the countries in the world. However, contrary to
popular belief, this plant has been used for medical purposes since ancient times. An active
chemical found in the cannabis, THC, is credited for its ability to relieve pain, to reduce anxiety, to
prevent vomiting and nausea and, to increase the appetite, which is why this plant is often linked
with cancer treatment. But, what is less commonly known is that THC can destroy cancer cells
completely.

Christina Sanchez, a molecular biologist from Compultense University, explains that the
cannabinoid receptors and the endocannabinoids, along with the enzymes that produce them, create
the endocannabinoid system. According to Sanchez, this system is noted for its ability to regulate a
number of biological functions, including appetite, reproduction and many other processes that
create a healthy environment within the body, which is why the cannabis has an enormous
therapeutic potential.
Apart from the THC, the plant produces a compound called cannabidiol. This compound is of a
great significance because it doesn t have any psychoactive properties. Instead, it acts as an
antioxidant that kills cancer cells and that protects the brain from stress and damage. When this
compound is combined with THC, the ability to treat cancerous diseases is even more powerful.
Dr. Sanchez and her team worked on a project which aim was to prove that THC has a positive
effect in the cancer treatment. In the research, they treated astrocytoma cells with cannabinoids.
What they discovered was that THC, the main psychoactive component of cannabis, was killing the
cancer cells. After noticing the anticancer ability of THC to destroy cancerous cells, the team
started to test this compound in animal models of glioblastoma tumor. They noticed that the cancer
cells died whenever they were exposed to THC. Dr. Sanchez states that THC is more powerful than
chemotherapy because it kills only cancer cells

A Comparison Between Advertising Agencies’ and Pr...
A comparison between advertising agencies and PR agencies internationalization motives and entry
modes Eight cases from Sweden
1. Abstract
The firm internationalization literature is extensive, but dominated by studies of technical, often
large, firms. The service firm internationalization literature is slowly growing. Few international
contributions are found investigating the advertising industry and no such studies focus on the
Swedish market. The PR industry has been internationally neglected. This study investigates four
advertising agencies and four PR agencies in the Swedish market. The eight case agencies confirm
traditional internationalization motives, but also new motives are found, such as the foreign ... Show

Lastly, these authors used quantitative research method, which generally limits the freedom of the
respondents in answering questions. The Public Relations, PR, industry has been internationally
neglected. A possible explanation to this neglect is that this industry has been assumed to be the
same as the advertising industry. The gap in research should by now be evident! Despite a growing
body of service literature, the internationalization of the advertising industry and the Public
Relations industry in Sweden has remained unchartered territories for research. The
internationalization motives and the entry modes for the advertising industry in USA are
somewhat known, but the PR industry is neglected internationally. The link between motives and
entry modes in the advertising industry is blurry even from an international perspective and the
latest contribution was released in year 1990. Furthermore, it is unclear what importance the
concept of psychic distance (Johanson and Vahlne 1977; Johanson and Wiedersheim Paul 1975) has
for the international expansion in these industries and if and how business contacts

enables these industries to internationalize (Johanson and Mattsson 1988). Additionally, there is no
recent research focusing on these industries after the globalization of services and the enhanced
importance of services in the World and in Sweden. Finally, a case studyapproach has not been
conducted yet in this matter. The Dissertation

Sammy s Characters In A P By John Updike
Morals are standards or beliefs that most people use for guidance in their lives and turn to when
making decisions. A person s character is composed of their set morals, so the actions many people
take are dictated by what they believe in. In the short story A P by John Updike, main character
Sammy finds himself in a situation where his authorityfigure took action against three teenage
girls in a way that Sammy did not believe to be right. This position was especially difficult for
Sammy to be in, due to wanting to express his own beliefs while also knowing he is not in a
place of command to request a change from his boss. While reading A P I was able to relate to
Sammy on a personal level, as I have been in a similar circumstance and felt my boss acted in
ways that went against my beliefs. Sammy and I have both exhibited impulsive acts of defiance
towards higher authority figures, due to circumstances in which we felt our integrity was being
compromised in our place of work.
Sammy s strong feelings towards three girls in his store, whom he did not previously know, led
him to make a choice that affected both him and his family. Sammy believed his boss, Lengel,
was in the wrong to state the store policy of, dressing decently (378), to the three girls wearing
bathing suits. Lengel also said how the store, isn t the beach , so the girls should have their,
shoulders covered (378). Sammy felt that Lengel was rude while talking to the girls and stated that

The Dropped Sales Of Cereal
The dropped sales of cereal. One of the main issues that I have noticed about my idea of making
All In One product is the dropping sales of consumption of cereals. As the data shows the
consumption of cereal has dropped about 5 7 percent these past couple of years (Trafecante,
2016). However, the reason is not the reducing number of people who eat breakfast, but the
increasing number of variety of breakfast meal in the stores, which makes many people to switch
to another type of breakfast food. As it mentioned in the New York Times article many
companies, such as Kellogg, General Mills and Post, concerned about the reducing trend of sales
are trying new innovative ways to stop the downward trend (Melisa, 2014). Since the half of the
cereal consumers are adults they try to make the new products nostalgic to influence adults
choices of breakfast type. Another reason that many cereal companies believe is the reason of the
lowered consumption of cereal is the laziness of people, because as the article states the 40
percent of teenagers consider eating cereal on breakfast is inconvenient because they have to clean
up afterwards, and they prefer to eat something that will not take much of their time (Mitchell,
2016). Therefore many consumers switch from eating cereal to another breakfast not because they
don t like it anymore but because it takes longer time to make it and clean up. Thus, when my All

Wilfred Owen
What is Wilfred Owen s attitude towards WW1 and how is this shown through his poetry?
Wilfred Owen was a soldier during world war one. Many of his poems were published
posthumously, and now well renowned. His poems were also heavily influenced by his good
friend and fellow soldier Siegfried Sassoon. Wilfred Owen was tragically killed one week before
the end of the war. During the war Wilfred Owen had strong feelings towards the use of
propaganda and war in general, this was due to the horrors he saw during his time on the frontlines.
During his time on the battlefield he thought a lot about the war and the feelings he and other
soldiers had, and he channelled his thoughts through poetry. In this essay I will compare Dulce et

tone What passing bells for those who die as cattle... only the monstrous anger of the guns these
words are trying to tell us that war is not glorious as you do not get a proper funeral, and you die

Owen uses personification to describe the guns Only the monstrous anger of the guns to build
up a vivid scene as to how the guns were fired, and how the soldiers perceived them to be. Owen
shows that in war there are only the sounds of guns being fired. In war, instead of honouring
those who have fallen, more are being killed by the same weapons. Thus giving us a clear
indication as to how he felt about war. Anthem of a Doomed Youth tells us how unfortunate it is

Marcion Against Gnosticism
Marcion also mimicked the church by having his own bishops and a similar system to the church.
Because of these things, the church had to recover quickly by meeting the challenge that was
created. Although the Marcion church did challenge the Christian church, its beliefs were very
similar to the Gnostic beliefs in that they believed that the Old Testament was not scripture and
should not be treated as such.
Up until the mid to late 1900 s the knowledge about Marcion and the Gnostics was only known

Mary Poppins Movement Analysis
The movement decisions made by the director were key to making audience members feel
certain and distinct emotions. The opening sequence of Mary Poppins shows a backdrop of the
city of London. As the credits scroll by, the camera pans from right to left on the backdrop until it
zooms in on Mary Poppins sitting on a cloud. This specific camera movement allows for the
audience to make an easily detectable assumption that this lady on the cloud will be important in
the story of Mary Poppins. Another example of movement within the Mary Poppinsfilm is the scene
of the Banks family flying their kite while at the park. This is an example of movement in that
the director chose to have an upward movement of the camera, from the Banks family and to the
kite that is flying in the sky. This decision on camera movement allows the audience to have a
sense of hope for the Banks family, individually and as whole family. A third example is when
Mary, the children, and Bert go and visit Uncle Albert at his home. Within these scenes, several
reaction shots, low or high angle shots, and close ups cut back and forth from Uncle Albert
laughing and tumbling in the air, to the children laughing, to Bert trying to keep from laughing,
and Mary admonishing them. A cut to a long shot for reestablishing everyone s place in the room
keeps viewers focused. Editing is the way for the director to minimize the amount of distraction for
the audience members, in order to allow audiences to focus on

The World of Commercial Art and the International Art Market
The World of Commercial Art and the International Art Market
The main aims of this research are to acquire an understanding of the conditions of the art market
and to develop a critical knowledge of the commercial art world and the relevant international
market.
The idea that the international art market is a regulator in the post academy art world has
implications on the formation of prices and values in the art market, due to the macroeconomic
reality, political and cultural changes of this period.
Throughout the nineteenth century, the AcadГ©mie des BeauxArts continued to produce many
important artists. It lost its power only at the turn of the century when it failed to acknowledge
radical styles such as Impressionism and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The international art market is based upon individual players whose motives are ultimately the
maximisation of art.
In this way, the market developed into the international scope due to the proliferation of the figures
of dealers and auction houses, whose international work in Holland, England, France and Italy
became recognised in nineteenth century.
Hence, Academic art, serving as a bridge period between the Baroque and Early Modern era, was
essential the comprehension of new ideas about art and its periodisation, the extension of subject
matter and development of technique, and the new interaction of public and patrons with artists.
Many of the characteristics of nineteenth century Academic Art small scale, storytelling, realism
and high finish reflected changes in the art market. The political and cultural authority of church,
government and aristocracy, the industrial revolution and emergence of a large commercial middle
class, along with an unprecedented expansion of living space, stimulated an increase in the demand
for decorations and art.
There were fewer large scale commissions and artists sought to appeal to a new group of patrons:
wealthy, middle class art lovers. These new collectors acquired art for personal enjoyment, to
decorate their homes, and to demonstrate their cultured sophistication.
The nineteenth century is the century that

Question: A newly emerged virus has infected a previously naГЇve (uninfected) individual. Please
describe all the possible adaptive immune response to this uncharacterized virus
Introduction:
The adaptive immune response is the response of antigen specific lymphocytes to antigen, it
functions through a series of steps aimed at limiting or destroying a particular antigen. T and B
cells primarily mediate the responses of the adaptive immune system as they obtain the
characteristics of specificity and memory. There are two classes of adaptive immune response;
humoral immune response and cell mediated or antibody immune response. In order for the

Their two primary jobs are to ensure antibody production against the appropriate target antigen
occurs and there is presentation of antigen to T cells and signals for T cell activation are
provided. B cells provide protection of the host by producing antibodies that identify and
neutralize foreign objects like viruses. These B cells then differentiate into plasma cells and
memory cells. Plasma cells are terminally differentiated B cells that remain committed to the
continuous production and secretion of antibodies. Each plasma will synthesise and secret only
one type of antibody. Memory B cells are long lived B cells that have specialised to
remembering the type of substances that the immune system has seen before, they are primed
for rapid response to repeated exposure of the antigen. Memory B cells are generated in the
lymphoid tissue and migrate to the lymph nodes and reside in the ready mode for activation in
order to quickly recognise and attack any returning virus. T cells attack cells that have become
infected by viruses, there are two types of T cells the T helper cell ad the cytotoxic T cell. T
helper cells do not attack infected cells directly, instead they release chemical messengers known
as cytokines that signal differentiation, growth and action of other immune cells. Cytotoxic T cells
go around in the body looking for and wanting to destroy pathogenic cells directly. Cytotoxic T
cells attach to the compromised cell and release chemical factors that are able to kill their targets by
programming then to undergo apoptosis. * Dendritic

A Brief Argument Of Evolutionary Psychology By Putting...
Social constructionism counters this argument of evolutionary psychology by putting emphasis on
environment and nurture. Constructionism focuses on how meaning is created hence when we use
the term socially constructed we are referring to how society and culture create gender roles which
are in turn prescribed as normal and appropriate behavior expected from a person of that particular
gender. More radical versions of the social constructionist theory go as far as to argue that the
behavioral differences that exist between men and women are entirely social conventions free of
any biological or evolutional influence. Other versions of the theory also claim that there are

Gender stereotypes can even be accurate at times....
As we have seen gender stereotypes and the subsequent gender roles which they encourage can
often serve a good purpose but they do become problematic when the lines are blurred and we can
no longer distinguish between nature and nurture. There is a network of researchers who have
proposed that stereotypes are indeed grounded on truth and these are not just empty claims as there
is also a wealth of research to support this. Throughout this paper we shall take a look at this
research and examine its authenticity in order to determine what truth if any lies in stereotypes.
Similarly, many people use confirmatory biases to prove the truthfulness of stereotypes.
Confirmation bias is a tendency of people to remember and notice events in a way which confirms
their ideology and beliefs.. For instance,

Slavery Or Enslaved Objects Fit Right Into The Discourses...
In my opinion, slavery or enslaved objects fit right into the discourses of modernity. Paul Gilroy
quoted Hegel in The Black Atlantic. This condition is capable of no development or Culture,
and as we see them at this day, such they have always been (Gilroy 41). That is saying that blacks
never have or will contribute to anything in the world. That was another reason for slave owners
to treat slaves like the scum on the bottom of their shoe. If blacks aren t doing anything to benefit
us in any type of way, what s the point of treating them like human beings? That s probably how
slave owners thought and they had a reason. If blacks weren t getting any credit for anything and

Blacks always found themselves resisting physical, political and economic domination. For that
specific reason, Gilroy argues that nation as an organizing historical principal lacks accuracy
because it only shows the negative side of everything. Gilroy shows how it is represented in black
music. This fundamental dislocation of black culture is especially important in recent history of
black musics which, produced out of racial slavery which made modern western civilization
possible, now dominate its popular cultures (Gilroy 80).
Du Bois agrees with Gilroy about the sorrow songs. In The Souls of Black Folk Du Bois thinks
that sorrow songs are a show of the achievements of African descendants in America. The songs
have been passed down from generation to generation. The songs are just like their composers,
have been polished by the fires of American slavery, inequality, and cruelty. These songs are the
music of an unhappy people, and the creations of children of disappointment; and yet, they are
also prayers which breathe hope and a faith in the ultimate justice of things (Du Bois 157). The
sorrow songs are a way for slaves to speak to the world in their own special way.
Du Bois begins every single chapter with a piece of religious music. That in itself shows how
important the sorrow songs are. Slaves intentionally hold on to their troubles to use as motivation
for overcoming future obstacles. Sorrow songs are the greatest

Dances With Wolves And Avatar
Dances with Wolves and Avatar: Similar but Different
Dances with Wolves and Avatar are thought to be very different, but they are actually more similar
than viewers may realize. First off, these are two must see films! The viewer walks away with much
more than just having seen a movie. Both of these movies encourage cultural understanding,
motivate, and teach individuality.
Dances with Wolves and Avatarare alike in plot and cultural significance. These two films are alike
in plot because in both films, two men, John Dunbar and Jake Sully, willingly put themselves into a
completely new culture and lifestyle. They learn to adapt to the differences and learn a new way
of life in order to survive. For example, in the movies Dances with Wolves and Avatar, John
Dunbar and Jake Sully had to learn each tribe s way of life, such as their language, hunting, and
self defense. Eventually, the two men are recognized as part of a tribe, for John the Sioux Indian
Tribe and for Jake the Na vi Tribe.
These two films are alike in cultural significance because they both show the viewer not to
believe all that is said about individuals, races, and cultures. In the two films, both tribes were
first looked at as evil enemies, but once the two men each took the time to get to know the
individuals and the tribes as a whole, they realized that it was all just a lie. The Sioux and Na vi
were actually nice people who just felt threatened by the outsiders. The tribes needed to look

The Five Key Turning Points In Japan s Medieval Period
The long, battle weary, four hundred year period from the late twelfth century through the
Kamakura period (1185 1333), Muromachi period (1336 1573), and well into the sixteenth century
is referred to as Japan s medieval period. The imperial government s authority was deteriorating, the
provinces were in chaos as warrior clans fought amongst themselves, and regional military chieftains
challenged the imperial government for the right to rule. Medieval Japan saw the development of
feudalism and a militaristic society led by samurai clans. The Gempei War, Shokyu War, Mongol
Invasions, Kemmu Restoration, and The Onin War are five key turning points in Japan s transition
from a centralized imperial government to feudalism. These conflicts also demonstrate the
evolution of the samurai ethos. Though the Kamakura period marked the beginning of warrior class
rule in Japan, events in the late Heian period provided the means for samurai clans to rise to
positions of power. The increase in the number and size of shoen (private estates exempt from
government taxation) resulted in a significant decline of the imperial government s authority. By
the twelfth century, it was estimated that only about one tenth of land remained in the public
domain under the authority of the provincial governors. (Hane Perez p. 76) The lack of taxable land
prevented the government from acquiring the financial resources necessary to maintain a national
military. As the central government s military

Postmodern Congruity In Bottle Rocket
The image above illustrates how the director subtly responds to his own work. It is an example of
postmodern irony and the new sincerity because it serves as a subversive function, as Moonrise
Kingdom (2012) makes a critique about the characters in Bottle Rocket (1996). It happens at the
beginning of the filmand it immediately establishes the type of roles the adults and the children
play. The congruity between the two films is the collection of bottle rockets on the desk. The
incongruity comments on the maturity of adults and children. Dignan (in Bottle Rocket(1996)) is a
reckless individual and lights a rocket when it suits his mood, for example, out of the window of a
moving car. These children (above) are responsible because they are capable of making the rockets,
and they are making them in a safe environment. Norton s character, the scout master, purposefully
directs his cigarette towards the camera, to not set them alight. The postmodern term of
postmodern irony suggests a consciousness (explained in chapter one) and the narrative is
designed to consciously know that is it a film. By commenting on a previous film, the director is
able to reply with the new sincerity about the condition of his characters and it heightens the fact
that the audience is watching a film. The subversive function occurs when the illusion of reality is
broken, as the filmic devices are made evident.
A subversive method is adopted in film to go against an established system. In

Reflection On Teaching Style
Furthermore, as I read the assigned articles and viewed videos, I realized that my teachers
obviously, followed Piaget s, Vygotsky. Dewey, and Bruner constructivist view because they used
the theory of assimilation and accommodation, e.g., the learning of a new experience and changing
of a person s worldview. I also discovered after deep reflection on this week s assignment, how much
of an impact my teachers had on my teaching style. Before retiring, I taught based on what my
students needed. Therefore, much of my teaching mixed the theories of, Constructivism, Social
Constructivism and Cognitive Behavioral depending on the student. In fact, I realized, as I
continued to read, my teachers did a lot of modeling and demonstrations on completing a task. In
addition, they had the ability to adjust learning to their students learning need and style, even
though learning styles were not part of the system yet (Hamond et al., n.d.). Therefore, much of my
teaching mimics how I learned from those teachers. I believe in guiding my students toward
discovery on their own; therefore, my lessons were thought out, so they encompassed each student
s learning style. I taught 6th grade social studies, not an exhilarating course to garner excitement.
However, the use of modeling, multiple intelligences, scaffolding, and differentiated learning I feel
greatly enhanced learning. As a matter of fact, according to Coffey (2013), research showed an

creating problems in kids. These problems can affect children in many ways. This problem is
creating confusion in kids because they are growing up thinking that they should be one way
because society thinks that s the ideal. Stereotypes also are creating a false idea of how they
interact with other individuals. Many of the stereotypes the children receive are through media.
We can t change this because is the way our society works, but we can teach our children to value
other people for what they are, not what they appear to be. ( Jorge Robles). This basically explains
that it is important to teach children to respect each other no matter of their sex, sexual orientation,
race, culture, religion, and more. It is important to advise them these values because they are the
future of the society. This also shows how stereotypes are inevitable because it shows nature s
pattern and how it is constantly brought down through new

Annotated Bibliography The Dream Of The Rood

Brock, Jeanette C. The Dream of the Rood and the Image of Christ in the Early Middle Ages.
Web. 18 July 2015. Jeanette Brock s article, The Dream of the Rood and the Image of Christ in
the Early Middle Ages, suggests that the author of Dream of the Rood had a missionary purpose to
expose Christ as a warrior suiting for armor. This indication counter opposes the meek, human
nature of Jesus as it is exemplified in the Bible. Furthermore, she compares this poem to other
medieval poetry such as Beowulf . She explains the rood becoming a warrior and defeating death
simply gives a message of hope. Brock s emphasis remains with the concept that during the Middle
Ages, the perception of dying as a warrior was seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, in her research, Emma B. Hawkins gathered information that supported the notion that
many Anglo Saxon writers associated power with terms such as bravery, victory, physical strength
and so much more (Hawkins 1995). All of these characteristics, are displayed both Christ and the
Cross in The Dream of the Rood as masculine undertones. The cross represents a power struggle
between Christ s defeat (which has feminine connotations) and his victory which has masculine
connotations (Hawkins

own unique way of running a store. Sometimes merchandising is presented differently. The services
can also vary from location to location, this depends on the demographics of the area.
Opportunities
One of the ways Sneerglaw does their branding is by promoting health. Outside of store,
Sneerglaw does a great job at making sure they want their customers to be healthy. An area of
opportunity would be to implement health in the stores as well. For example, a designated
location in the store that displays healthy, organic food would allow for healthier shopping. This
idea can be used for organic beauty products and natural vitamins as well. Because health
awareness is a very big movement, this could allow Sneerglaw to grow their sales. Also, ... Show

Pharmacies in grocery stores are a threat because they offer similar conveniences that Sneerglaw
offers. Generic inflation is also another issue that Sneerglaw faces. The cost of generic drugs
increased dramatically in 2014. In 2015 the inflation is expected to continue.
Leadership Evaluation
Vizcarrondo illustrates the behavioral leadership theory. How a leader behaves is reflected in the
company s success or failure. There are two types of behaviors: attention to tasks and attention to
people. Our CEO is very task oriented, and he directs his employees work activities to reach a goal;
this describes initiating structure.
Strengths
One of Vizcarrondo s strengths is that his goal is to create a global company. He outlined his
plans for China the world s third biggest pharmaceutical market...[he] cannot create a global
company without being in Europe and in the U.S. and in Asia, particularly China (Treadgold,
2016). Planning to open stores in China will help Sneerglaw dive deeper into the pharmaceutical
market and expand. Being a global company is ambitious, and there are many steps required to
accomplish this goal. In order to do so, each department in Sneerglaw has its duties and
responsibilities. Through the hierarchy, tasks are delegated and expected to be completed on time.
Another strength to being task oriented is following the right procedures while being strategic.
Vizcarrondo is an advocate of discipline, his golden rule is that a good deal

Excerpt From How Jackie Robinson Changed Baseball
Imagine being so passionate about one thing that you are willing to face criticism and hate to do
it. This was the case for Jackie Robinson, both a baseball player and a civil rights icon. Robinson
was the first African American baseball player to play in an all white league (in the 20th
century). He was often faced with hate and had to listen to people s cruel remarks. He also had his
fair share of supporters, who admired him for breaking racial barriers in the United States. He was
the start of a new area for the baseballleagues of America. Hero by Scott Simon, Excerpt from How

When Jackie Robinson join the ranks of an all white baseball team he challenged these norms
and established new ones, securing his rank as a role model for other African Americans (he
hoped they would challenge the color barrier too). Author Jessica McBirney expresses this idea in
Excerpt from How jackie Robinson Changed Baseball , where she expounds; Jackie Robinson
became the first Major League baseball player to break the color barrier since 1880 (Birney). It
had been years since a team had members of both race. Robinson did not accept this and signed
to the Dodgers even though he knew what he would have to face. Robinson also challenged the
U.S. social norms by becoming one of the first African Americans to be inducted into the
Baseball hall of Fame. This as a massive feat for Robinson, for this had not happened many
times before. Robinson s baseball success prompted other African Americans to join sports
teams that were previously whites only. In the video Jackie Robinson Mini Bio by A E
Networks, they inform the watcher that, in the first five years of Robinson s baseball career
around one hundred and fifty other African American/black players joined previously all white
baseball teams (2:31 2:37). This movement of African Americans joining all white sports teams
head butted with the age old idea of separation between the two races. This social norm was
slowly being broken by Robinson and others, and was paving the way to a time where everyone

The Environment Of Psychiatric Facilities, Regional West...
The environment that surrounds an individual is vital to their health and wellbeing. This is
specifically true when considering healing, especially in the hospital environment. A more
appropriate term for this is milieu therapy. Halter (2013) defined this as a psychiatric philosophy
that involves a secure environment (including people, setting, structure, and emotional climate) to
effect positive change (p. 677). This paper will discuss the environment of two psychiatric
facilities, Regional West and Behavioral Management, and their effects on patients mood,
behavior, and anxiety. Regional West is an inpatient facility that provides care to individuals 5
years old and up. The second floor of the facility is known as the step down unit.... Show more

The lighting was bright in the facility, with natural sunlight coming in through the windows.
Across from the nurses station there were patient lockers that consisted of items that the patients
were not able to keep in their room. The main area for the patients consisted of about two to
three tables with chairs, as well as, love seats and chairs for seating. Some tables had puzzles
laying for the patient s to do during an open time in their schedule. The noise level was moderate
to low for most of the time. At times the volume would increase due to the several different
disciplines of health care professionals collaborating together. The patients kept the noise volume
down while in the main seating area, although, at times the pediatric floor would get loud when
several patients were surrounded together. There was not a distinctive smell noted at the facility,
but it did not seem to smell like the hand alcohol as much as the main Rapid City Regional hospital.
There was also a fenced outdoor area that allowed the pediatric patients to spend time playing
volleyball and basketball. Staff consisted of two to three nurses, two techs on the pediatric floor,
and a couple more additional patient technicians on the adult third floor. Psychiatrists were also in
the area at times. There would be either two or three nursing students on each

Summary Of Robin Lakoff s Language And Woman s Place
In Robin Lakoff s Language and Woman s Place the author Robin tells us her side of the inequity
that women face. She wants to see what she can conclude from her experiences. In this article she
tells us about her first hand accounts of this through introspection (Lakoff 46). Robin tells us about
what language use can tell us about the nature of inequality (Lakoff 45). The author also talks
about the subservient functions of women and the roles that sexes play in society (Lakoff 45).
Robin wants to know if anything can be done for this cause or is this what our society has destined
for women (Lakoff 46). Robin talks about how tag questions avoid coming into conflict about the

This appeals to the rhetorical strategy ethos. This helps pull the reader s attention in and makes
them believe the claims she is making. Having first hand accounts of this experience allows her
article to connect with the readers so they know what she has gone through. The audience can see
the author s credibility through this making it more believable. Showing us her side of the story
lets us know that these problems are real. Explaining to the audience examples of this in everyday
life and language makes the audience feel like something must be done. The author explains to us
that many women are subject to subservient functions (Lakoff 46). The roles the sexes play in
society have a determination in how they are treated Robin states (Lakoff 46). She tells us about
her first hand experiences of this, which cause the reader to sympathize for her (Lakoff 46). The
author thinks that we will find two different ways of discrimination women face in language. The
author explains the way that women are taught to use language and the way that general language
treats them (Lakoff 46). This is where the reader starts to see the problems that women may face.
The rhetorical strategy ethos used helps the reader feel for her cause as if it were happening to
them first hand. This makes the reader aware of what is going on. At this point the audience can

Essay An Injustice for All in Sonata Allegro Form
An Injustice for All in Sonata Allegro Form Wideman s quotation from Brothers and Keepers
could be interpreted to say a number of different things. The interpretation I could make is no
person could explain the reason things are the way they are in life. In trying to come up with a
logical answer they dwell on it and it becomes even more confusing. Afterwards they settle upon
the conclusion that things happen for a reason and not in any kind of order. Wideman also claims
that people do not have the power to control their own destinies. They are simply a product of their
own environments and the events that make and shape them. John Edgar Wideman s Our Time is

The epilogue helps me to kind of understand where John and Robby are coming from but still
does not justify their actions. How rediculous would it life be if every time a close friend or family
member died someone would go on a crime spree. But metaphorically speaking it gives us a
canvas paint a picture on. After the epilogue Wideman jumps straight into an important part of
the story, the death of Robby s friend Garth in Robby s point of view. This is important because
this is what sparks Robby s behavioral changes. Then John, as an outsider looking in on the
situation moves onto how he views Robby. He understands Robby s behavior is wrong but he
lets it go because of all the awful things that Robby has gone through growing up. Wideman now
finds that his mother is starting to accept that Robby is a product of his environment and the
events lead up to his wrong doings. John visits Robby in prison and finally opens the lines of
communication between each other. They decide to write a book together but John doubted
himself. John did not trust himself with Robby s story because he was tempted to make it his
own. The first story Robby talks about is his friend Gar in the hospital. Gar seems very sick, he s
stuck in a hospital bed. He was misdiagnosed by the doctors and dies because of it. After the
death of Gar, Robby turned into a hardcore gangster. He vowed to make it to the top of the street
world . This was his own choice. No one told him he had to

The Similarities Between Mars And Mars
Mars, the red planet, and fourth planet from the sun. What is Mars really like, is it cold or hot,
wet or dry? Can humans live on Mars, and if so how? For decades scientists have been studying
Mars, they have been using rovers and from there they collected data, samples, and took pictures.
These rovers study Marsatmosphere, temperatures, weather, if it has water, and a lot more. With all
of the data the scientists have gathered we know that Mars atmosphere is a lot different than our,
yet still has similarities.
Even though Earth and Mars are in the same solar system and orbit the same sun, Mars
atmosphere and the planet itself is a lot different from Earth. Mars is 142 million miles away
from the sun, with a year being 687 days long. It is about half of Earth s size, and is one tenth of
Earth s mass. Mars atmosphere is carbon based, containing 95.3% carbon dioxide, and also it
only has .3% water vapor (Source for %). The average temperature on Mars is 81 degrees
Fahrenheit which is approximately 62 degrees Celsius (NASA). Mars atmosphere is also very
thin, so it does not allow liquid water to exist at the surface for long (Newsela). Also Mars has a
lot less gravity, Earth has 62.5% more gravity than Mars does (NASA). Mars environment would
not be very hospitable for human life.
Earth also differs a lot from Mars, Earth is 78.1% nitrogen, and 20.9% oxygen, and isn t carbon
based (Source for %). While Mars only is only .3% water vapor, Earth is 1 4%

Abstract
This article studies a novel approach to improve membrane separation eciency { application of
external physical in uence (temperature dierence across the membrane). Oppositely directed
pressure and temperature gradients in membrane establish a molecular exchange ow when two
components of the binary gas mixture ow in the opposite directions through the membrane. The
model of gas separator based on this eect is studied numerically at dierent scales. At microscale (in
membrane channels) solution of the linearized Boltz mann equation is used. At macroscale
(external part of the device) the system of Navier Stokes equations for two component gas mixture
is solved using nite volume method adopted for low Mach number limit. Dependence of device
eciency on all of the dening parameters is studied and comparison with previous numerical
simulation of the device is made. The key feature of the device is that it can produce output gas

The Democratic Party is considered a liberal party, has also been described by academics,
politicians and even the American general public as progressive and center left. However, the
reality is that it is a party with an ideological divergence with different ideological sectors as the
conservative center right, through the center, classical liberalism, social liberalism, social democracy

Abraham Lincoln: Lawyer and American politician who was the sixteenth president of the United

his thought and his convictions, the patent in his writings and speeches, the outstanding among the
virtues of a statesman and the performance was not without hesitation. Unfortunately, when Lincoln
assumed that the presidency was reaching its culmination a national crisis of the beginning of the

plantations that employed a million slaves, and saw in the suppression of slavery the end of their

Puerto Rican Music and Its Significance Essay Puerto Rican Music and Its Significance Although the policies of Americanization and degradation of Puerto Rican culture heritage improved by the United States in Puerto Rico during the early decades of the twentieth century, the utmost concern for the United States was the strategic location of the island for political and economic advantages, not of the people who inhabited it. Puerto Rico, though a poor colony, was a rich cultural spot in an area of dynamic cultural influence of the Caribbean. One aspect of the Puerto Rican culture that was greatly influenced by its location in the Caribbean and by its repossession by the United States is music. Music permeated the daily life of Puerto Ricans (Waxer, Oct. 29). Music was the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus the bomba became known as talking drums (Glasser, 1995). The plena, another typical form of Puerto Rican music, was considered the singing newspaper. It was developed at the turn of the century by a lower class mulato population (made up of Puerto Rican freed slaves and migrants from the English Antilles) on the coast. Themes for the music came from the idiosyncrasies and normalcies of daily life, and was incorporated through a narrative verse taken from the Spanish music culture through call and response . Call and response, another African influence, is a component of traditional African musical expression in which a phrase is sung (chanted by part of a group of people and that phrase is responded to by a refrain by the other part of the group. Call and response is a component of the bomba, the plena, and the danza and still exists today as an important ingredient of Puerto Rican music. It facilitates dialogue, and encourages a sense of community by enabling more people to join in, which then closes the gaps between classes and races (Waxer, Oct. 29). The third traditional form of Puerto Rican music is the danza. This genre, developed by mulato artisans in late nineteenth century, reflected the race, class, and nationality issues which were present at that time. As the plena and the bomba had African roots, the danza had roots in English, French, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The long drive gives me time to think about the argument we had this morning and I m full of regret of all the hurtful things we said. All because I didn t want to discuss my father s passing 4 years ago. As I approach our dreadfully long driveway, I see smoke black as night in the distance, them red and blue flashing lights with police tape blocking off our red colonial home. Paving the Way: How Financial Aid Awareness Affects College Access and Success Literature Review October 2008 In a time of ever rising college costs, financial aid is critical to increase college access and success. Federal, state, and institutional aid programs help to ensure that students can afford higher education regardless of economic background. Financial aid is most effective when students and families learn about it early enough to make the right choices and plans about high school coursework, family savings, work and earnings, and college options. • 7. The World s First Debate On Morality In 11th Century, The Spanish Empire sent men to conquer the Americas and they discovered natives in the area. As a result of their interactions with the natives, a debate as to how they should treat or interact with the natives got to a boiling point, and was settled in a debate in Valladolid in 1550, with two men defending either side of the world s first debate on morality. One of these men was BartolomГ© de las Casas, a Dominican Catholic friar who spent some time with the American Natives, and debated to defend them against any harsh rule or handling by the hands of the Spanish. On the other end was Juan GinГ©s de SepГєlveda, an Aristotelian philosopher, argued for the enslavement of these natives due to the superiority of the Spanish over them. They both held strong convictions about their arguments, however Las Casas argument was made more effectively because he was more rational in his argument. Alternatively, SepГєlveda chose an exaggerated appeal to emotions as his approach for the argument he was making. SepГєlveda appeals to emotion in a variety of ways one of them being exaggerated language. In the beginning of his Treatise on the Just Causes of War against the Indians , he asked, what moderation or mildness can you expect of men who are given to all kinds of intemperance and wicked lusts, and who eat human flesh? Circa 1902 1904.Galileo Chini. L Arte della Ceramica Fontebuoni, Florence. Museo Galileo Chini, Borgo San lorenzo. The gold lustreware bowl by Galileo Chini is an object which could seem on first glance devoid of special significance: just a beautiful decorative object enjoyed at face value. (Fig.1) But in the seeming void I saw a repository of layered meanings which I attempted to interpret by examining the artistic cross cultural influences in Florence in the late nineteenth century. And to address the question of why the Mediaeval Hispano Moresque gold lustreware and the design motifs of the Gothic Revivalist repertoires were found on this bowl. I examine why Chini became inspired to use these designs and what they may have meant to him. The three kinds of muscles are different in some ways and they do have things in common. Almost 650 of the 700 muscles in the human body are skeletal muscles. Skeletal muscles are also known as voluntary muscles because we can voluntarily control their movements. An example, humans choose to use skeletal muscles when they flex their arm muscles or run laps around a track. Your Skeletal muscles are arranged in the body so that they are held in a slight stretch over the joint. If your leg muscles for instance, were entirely relaxed while you were standing up your legs would buckle and you would fall in a heap. Skeletal muscles are often attached from one side of the bone over the joint to the end of another bone. Skeletal muscles function in pairs or groups like a team. Usually, these muscles pairs or groups are Antagonistic. This means that they work against one another while one or more muscles in the pair or group contract, or get smaller and thicker, the other relax, or get bigger and thinner. Muscles can pull bones, but they can t push them. Without other muscles in the pair or group to pull a bone back would remain in the same position forever. It was later translated into English and some of its meaning must have been lost. The original title was L etranger which translates loosely to many different words. Meursault is a character of scarce conversation, as well as emotion . But Meursault shows clear evidence of sociopath that is not conscious of his mind or his emotions. Maman died today Or yesterday maybe, I don t know (Camus 3) That doesn t mean anything, Maybe it was yesterday. The opening sentences of the strangerexemplify Meursault s existential character. Which therefore leaves him with an emotional indifference and a detachment from the people around him and his complete detachment from the rest of society around him. Meursault is an odd character, he is portrayed to the point that he can no longer return to his current emotions. Meursault seems as if he isn t able to think for himself seeing that there were countless incidents where Raymond who is his neighbor, was able to persuade Meursault. ( I ve got some blood sausage and some wine at my place. How about joining me? ). He really looks up to his grandfather because his real father is in Argentina so he looks at his grandpa as his papa but when he comes back home from their house he is a completely different person. He no longer uses the words please and thank you, he says the F word constantly, and he does not share anything with anyone especially snacks with his little brother. His grandfather tends to swear too much and this favorite word to say is fuck , he does not say please or thank you and I know this because we lived with them for months, and he never shares anything with my son even if he asks for a bite of his food he will always say no and give him his own plate or snack. My oldest sons behavior of repeating and doing what his grandfather says and does is called observational learning which is when we observe and imitate other people s behaviors, especially those we respect and admire because they are our role models as children (Ochman, 2015,p.14 15). • 13. Bitter Political Enemies In Badger s and Choksi article How We Became Bitter Political Enemies as published by the New York Times, the authors discuss the matter of the worsening political relations between the Democrat and Republican party. This article presents the sore relations of the two parties as an occurrence that has only significantly worsened over the last 50 years due to both sides of the aisle fostering a growing animosity towards the other side. The animosity, however, has evolved from disagreeing over policies and legislation, to outright disliking someone just due to the party they represent. As a result, the Democrat and Republican party tension has become more personal over recent decades, and bipartisanship has suffered due to this. Those who identify as either a Democrat or Republican view the other party through a negative lens. A study that was discussed during class demonstrates that inter group animosity based on partisanship exceeds animosity based on race. I believe it is important because to know our past is to predict our future. The knowledge of what the temperatures were like fifteen hundred years ago, with little human interference, is the perfect way to create a scenario of today s climateand the how s and why s. However, going down this rabbit hole one may uncover uncomfortable facts about our current predicament. Answers found in both the past and the present could be disturbing. The Medieval Warm Period took place between the 10th and 15th centuries. During this era, ice free seas far to the north allowed the Vikings to settle Greenland and sail from Norway, Sweden, Briton and France on a regular basis with no trouble from the cold or sea ice. It is often pointed out that the MWP was a flourishing time in European history. This particular period saw the Vikings from the far North travel and raid northern communities at will. To me, the exploration and colonization of the New World, Iceland, and Greenland in relatively tiny vessels, manned only by oarsmen and sails is the foremost factor in the telling of climate conditions. There is a commonly shared opinion that this plant has an addictive nature and that it is responsible for damaging both your mental and your physical health, which is why it s illegal in most of the countries in the world. However, contrary to popular belief, this plant has been used for medical purposes since ancient times. An active chemical found in the cannabis, THC, is credited for its ability to relieve pain, to reduce anxiety, to prevent vomiting and nausea and, to increase the appetite, which is why this plant is often linked with cancer treatment. Christina Sanchez, a molecular biologist from Compultense University, explains that the cannabinoid receptors and the endocannabinoids, along with the enzymes that produce them, create the endocannabinoid system. According to Sanchez, this system is noted for its ability to regulate a number of biological functions, including appetite, reproduction and many other processes that create a healthy environment within the body, which is why the cannabis has an enormous therapeutic potential. Apart from the THC, the plant produces a compound called cannabidiol. This compound is of a great significance because it doesn t have any psychoactive properties. Instead, it acts as an antioxidant that kills cancer cells and that protects the brain from stress and damage. When this compound is combined with THC, the ability to treat cancerous diseases is even more powerful. Dr. Sanchez and her team worked on a project which aim was to prove that THC has a positive effect in the cancer treatment. In the research, they treated astrocytoma cells with cannabinoids. What they discovered was that THC, the main psychoactive component of cannabis, was killing the cancer cells. After noticing the anticancer ability of THC to destroy cancerous cells, the team started to test this compound in animal models of glioblastoma tumor. They noticed that the cancer cells died whenever they were exposed to THC. Dr. Sanchez states that THC is more powerful than chemotherapy because it kills only cancer cells ... A person s character is composed of their set morals, so the actions many people take are dictated by what they believe in. In the short story A P by John Updike, main character Sammy finds himself in a situation where his authorityfigure took action against three teenage girls in a way that Sammy did not believe to be right. This position was especially difficult for Sammy to be in, due to wanting to express his own beliefs while also knowing he is not in a place of command to request a change from his boss. While reading A P I was able to relate to Sammy on a personal level, as I have been in a similar circumstance and felt my boss acted in ways that went against my beliefs. Sammy and I have both exhibited impulsive acts of defiance towards higher authority figures, due to circumstances in which we felt our integrity was being compromised in our place of work. Sammy s strong feelings towards three girls in his store, whom he did not previously know, led him to make a choice that affected both him and his family. Sammy believed his boss, Lengel, was in the wrong to state the store policy of, dressing decently (378), to the three girls wearing bathing suits. • 25. The Dropped Sales Of Cereal The dropped sales of cereal. One of the main issues that I have noticed about my idea of making All In One product is the dropping sales of consumption of cereals. As the data shows the consumption of cereal has dropped about 5 7 percent these past couple of years (Trafecante, 2016). However, the reason is not the reducing number of people who eat breakfast, but the increasing number of variety of breakfast meal in the stores, which makes many people to switch to another type of breakfast food. As it mentioned in the New York Times article many companies, such as Kellogg, General Mills and Post, concerned about the reducing trend of sales are trying new innovative ways to stop the downward trend (Melisa, 2014). Since the half of the cereal consumers are adults they try to make the new products nostalgic to influence adults choices of breakfast type. Another reason that many cereal companies believe is the reason of the lowered consumption of cereal is the laziness of people, because as the article states the 40 percent of teenagers consider eating cereal on breakfast is inconvenient because they have to clean up afterwards, and they prefer to eat something that will not take much of their time (Mitchell, 2016). Therefore many consumers switch from eating cereal to another breakfast not because they don t like it anymore but because it takes longer time to make it and clean up. The opening sequence of Mary Poppins shows a backdrop of the city of London. As the credits scroll by, the camera pans from right to left on the backdrop until it zooms in on Mary Poppins sitting on a cloud. This specific camera movement allows for the audience to make an easily detectable assumption that this lady on the cloud will be important in the story of Mary Poppins. Another example of movement within the Mary Poppinsfilm is the scene of the Banks family flying their kite while at the park. This is an example of movement in that the director chose to have an upward movement of the camera, from the Banks family and to the kite that is flying in the sky. This decision on camera movement allows the audience to have a sense of hope for the Banks family, individually and as whole family. A third example is when Mary, the children, and Bert go and visit Uncle Albert at his home. Within these scenes, several reaction shots, low or high angle shots, and close ups cut back and forth from Uncle Albert laughing and tumbling in the air, to the children laughing, to Bert trying to keep from laughing, and Mary admonishing them. Their two primary jobs are to ensure antibody production against the appropriate target antigen occurs and there is presentation of antigen to T cells and signals for T cell activation are provided. B cells provide protection of the host by producing antibodies that identify and neutralize foreign objects like viruses. These B cells then differentiate into plasma cells and memory cells. Plasma cells are terminally differentiated B cells that remain committed to the continuous production and secretion of antibodies. Each plasma will synthesise and secret only one type of antibody. Memory B cells are long lived B cells that have specialised to remembering the type of substances that the immune system has seen before, they are primed for rapid response to repeated exposure of the antigen. Memory B cells are generated in the lymphoid tissue and migrate to the lymph nodes and reside in the ready mode for activation in order to quickly recognise and attack any returning virus. T cells attack cells that have become infected by viruses, there are two types of T cells the T helper cell ad the cytotoxic T cell. T helper cells do not attack infected cells directly, instead they release chemical messengers known as cytokines that signal differentiation, growth and action of other immune cells. Cytotoxic T cells go around in the body looking for and wanting to destroy pathogenic cells directly. That is saying that blacks never have or will contribute to anything in the world. That was another reason for slave owners to treat slaves like the scum on the bottom of their shoe. If blacks aren t doing anything to benefit us in any type of way, what s the point of treating them like human beings? That s probably how slave owners thought and they had a reason. Blacks always found themselves resisting physical, political and economic domination. This fundamental dislocation of black culture is especially important in recent history of black musics which, produced out of racial slavery which made modern western civilization possible, now dominate its popular cultures (Gilroy 80). Du Bois agrees with Gilroy about the sorrow songs. In The Souls of Black Folk Du Bois thinks that sorrow songs are a show of the achievements of African descendants in America. The songs have been passed down from generation to generation. The songs are just like their composers, have been polished by the fires of American slavery, inequality, and cruelty. These songs are the music of an unhappy people, and the creations of children of disappointment; and yet, they are also prayers which breathe hope and a faith in the ultimate justice of things (Du Bois 157). The sorrow songs are a way for slaves to speak to the world in their own special way. Du Bois begins every single chapter with a piece of religious music. That in itself shows how important the sorrow songs are. Slaves intentionally hold on to their troubles to use as motivation for overcoming future obstacles. Sorrow songs are the greatest ... The Five Key Turning Points In Japan s Medieval Period The long, battle weary, four hundred year period from the late twelfth century through the Kamakura period (1185 1333), Muromachi period (1336 1573), and well into the sixteenth century is referred to as Japan s medieval period. The imperial government s authority was deteriorating, the provinces were in chaos as warrior clans fought amongst themselves, and regional military chieftains challenged the imperial government for the right to rule. Medieval Japan saw the development of feudalism and a militaristic society led by samurai clans. The Gempei War, Shokyu War, Mongol Invasions, Kemmu Restoration, and The Onin War are five key turning points in Japan s transition from a centralized imperial government to feudalism. These conflicts also demonstrate the evolution of the samurai ethos. Though the Kamakura period marked the beginning of warrior class rule in Japan, events in the late Heian period provided the means for samurai clans to rise to positions of power. The increase in the number and size of shoen (private estates exempt from government taxation) resulted in a significant decline of the imperial government s authority. By the twelfth century, it was estimated that only about one tenth of land remained in the public domain under the authority of the provincial governors. (Hane Perez p. 76) The lack of taxable land prevented the government from acquiring the financial resources necessary to maintain a national military. As the central government s military ... • 38. Postmodern Congruity In Bottle Rocket The image above illustrates how the director subtly responds to his own work. It is an example of postmodern irony and the new sincerity because it serves as a subversive function, as Moonrise Kingdom (2012) makes a critique about the characters in Bottle Rocket (1996). It happens at the beginning of the filmand it immediately establishes the type of roles the adults and the children play. The congruity between the two films is the collection of bottle rockets on the desk. The incongruity comments on the maturity of adults and children. Dignan (in Bottle Rocket(1996)) is a reckless individual and lights a rocket when it suits his mood, for example, out of the window of a moving car. These children (above) are responsible because they are capable of making the rockets, and they are making them in a safe environment. Norton s character, the scout master, purposefully directs his cigarette towards the camera, to not set them alight. The postmodern term of postmodern irony suggests a consciousness (explained in chapter one) and the narrative is designed to consciously know that is it a film. By commenting on a previous film, the director is able to reply with the new sincerity about the condition of his characters and it heightens the fact that the audience is watching a film. The subversive function occurs when the illusion of reality is broken, as the filmic devices are made evident. A subversive method is adopted in film to go against an established system. In ... Dewey, and Bruner constructivist view because they used the theory of assimilation and accommodation, e.g., the learning of a new experience and changing of a person s worldview. I also discovered after deep reflection on this week s assignment, how much of an impact my teachers had on my teaching style. Before retiring, I taught based on what my students needed. Therefore, much of my teaching mixed the theories of, Constructivism, Social Constructivism and Cognitive Behavioral depending on the student. In fact, I realized, as I continued to read, my teachers did a lot of modeling and demonstrations on completing a task. In addition, they had the ability to adjust learning to their students learning need and style, even though learning styles were not part of the system yet (Hamond et al., n.d.). Therefore, much of my teaching mimics how I learned from those teachers. I believe in guiding my students toward discovery on their own; therefore, my lessons were thought out, so they encompassed each student s learning style. I taught 6th grade social studies, not an exhilarating course to garner excitement. However, the use of modeling, multiple intelligences, scaffolding, and differentiated learning I feel greatly enhanced learning. Labels are attached to a person about how a person should act or live according to their sex, race, personality, and other facts. This could affect individuals who perhaps like different things or do different activities. But they would feel ashamed of doing so because of stereotypes. Stereotypes like all men like sports or women are not as strong as men, are the most common in our society today. Stereotypes have created a bias of how every individual should be. Again, according to the article, Long term Effects of Stereotyping it says, Stereotypes are creating problems in kids. These problems can affect children in many ways. This problem is creating confusion in kids because they are growing up thinking that they should be one way because society thinks that s the ideal. Stereotypes also are creating a false idea of how they interact with other individuals. Many of the stereotypes the children receive are through media. We can t change this because is the way our society works, but we can teach our children to value other people for what they are, not what they appear to be. ( Jorge Robles). This basically explains that it is important to teach children to respect each other no matter of their sex, sexual orientation, race, culture, religion, and more. It is important to advise them these values because they are the future of the society. This is specifically true when considering healing, especially in the hospital environment. A more appropriate term for this is milieu therapy. Halter (2013) defined this as a psychiatric philosophy that involves a secure environment (including people, setting, structure, and emotional climate) to effect positive change (p. 677). This paper will discuss the environment of two psychiatric facilities, Regional West and Behavioral Management, and their effects on patients mood, behavior, and anxiety. Some tables had puzzles laying for the patient s to do during an open time in their schedule. The noise level was moderate to low for most of the time. After the epilogue Wideman jumps straight into an important part of the story, the death of Robby s friend Garth in Robby s point of view. This is important because this is what sparks Robby s behavioral changes. Then John, as an outsider looking in on the situation moves onto how he views Robby. For decades scientists have been studying Mars, they have been using rovers and from there they collected data, samples, and took pictures. These rovers study Marsatmosphere, temperatures, weather, if it has water, and a lot more. With all of the data the scientists have gathered we know that Mars atmosphere is a lot different than our, yet still has similarities. Even though Earth and Mars are in the same solar system and orbit the same sun, Mars atmosphere and the planet itself is a lot different from Earth. Mars is 142 million miles away from the sun, with a year being 687 days long. It is about half of Earth s size, and is one tenth of Earth s mass. Mars atmosphere is carbon based, containing 95.3% carbon dioxide, and also it only has .3% water vapor (Source for %). Mars atmosphere is also very thin, so it does not allow liquid water to exist at the surface for long (Newsela). Also Mars has a lot less gravity, Earth has 62.5% more gravity than Mars does (NASA).
