APIdays Zurich 2019 - The Three Pillars of API Strategy Erik Wilde, GoodAPIapidays
Digital transformation initiatives are ubiquitous but often have low success rates. This presentation outlines API strategies as an essential component, discussing the three pillars - business, team, and technology - that are necessary for API strategy success. Vision, strategy, and execution must be synchronized. The business pillar involves using APIs to increase delivery speed and decrease costs. The team pillar means increased autonomy for teams. The technology pillar refers to API platforms and standards. All three pillars must have managed initiatives and progress indicators for digital transformations to succeed.

1. Finland has potential to become a leader in the platform economy due to its focus on digitalization and APIs. The largest companies globally are increasingly digital platform-based businesses.
2. Platform economies optimize service production and value creation by utilizing shared data and APIs. Businesses should leverage existing third-party services through APIs to build new value-adding services in a modular "tetris of platforms" approach.
3. Business Finland provides various grants for SMEs developing platform business models, including 50% grants for platform/API business models and a new call for industrial research on platform business models. Recent examples of funded platform projects involve universities and companies building new ecosystem platforms.
APIdays 2019 - The API mindset for IT and Business Tom Cully, BlackRavenapidays
The document discusses the "API mindset" and how it transformed Amazon. It summarizes Jeff Bezos' 2002 memo mandating that all Amazon teams communicate through APIs instead of direct links. This forced externalization led to Amazon Web Services and its massive cloud business. The API mindset is about enabling others rather than direct sales. It discusses how to implement the API mindset by consuming your own APIs, offering capabilities instead of products, and being willing to give things away for free like open source. The API mindset can transform products, businesses, and the world by better serving others.

This document discusses API security risk management through the use of bug bounty programs. It begins by outlining some key risks of exposing APIs, such as fraudulent transactions, privacy leaks, and denial of service attacks. It then presents bug bounty programs as an agile way to discover vulnerabilities by paying security researchers to report issues. The benefits of bug bounties are that they encourage early reporting of bugs, are cost-effective if only real issues receive payment, and increase trust through transparency. The document provides advice on setting up different types of bug bounty programs and managing the process of receiving and addressing reports.

The document discusses open banking after the implementation of PSD2 regulations. There are over 140,000 financial apps available, sometimes providing better services than official bank apps. PSD2 aimed to create more competition and innovation through open access to customer data and payment initiation services. However, some find the customer journey too complex, scope too restrictive to only payment accounts, and strong authentication requirements on every access. Moving forward, banks need to think of themselves as part of a wider ecosystem or platform to better partner with fintechs and provide seamless customer experiences.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms.
