John Hay Open Door Policy
John Hay, the Secretary of State, first articulated the Open Door Policy in 1899.
The Secretary of State s intentions for the Open Door Policy was aimed to secure
international agreements for policy, trade and commerce with China. Prior to John
Hay, American policies with China were conducted under similar principles
however, were not official until he put the policy in writing and proposed it to the
powers in Europe. The Open Door was not an official United Statespolicy but was
considered notes sent between the Far East in the late 1800 s and half of the 1900
s. The Open Door notes were never a policy and were only drafts of notes sent
between John Hayand European countries in an attempt to establish equal trade
commerce and equal port availability regardless of nationality. John Hay battled for
years throughout the 19th century putting these notes into place. He strived to obtain

Hippisley and William E. Rockhill (history.state.gov). Both these men, experts in
China economy, believed that China trades and port access would be best protected
by an agreement. Hippisley and Rockhill suggested an agreement that would provide
a formality in trade and commercial activity among European powers. During the
same time the United States had just won the Spanish American war and had gained
control of Guam, Philippines and Hawaii. With growing economical power, the
United States became increasingly interested in China trade. Hippisley and Rockhill
proposed their ideas to John Hay. Hay would construct and draft the initial agreement.
John Hay sent the preliminary notes of policy to the countries that had an interest in
trades and the ports open around China. These countries included Great Britain,
France, Russia, Germany, and Japan. The original proposition was to establish a free
and open market for equal trading opportunities between all nationalities invested with
Traumatizing Encounters
All happy families resemble one another ; each unhappy family is unhappy in its
own way (Leo Tolstoy). Unlike joyful families you d habitually recognize, you d be
astounded to realize my family is notoriously unhappy. The fact being, we have
witnessed tragedies and have been driven to despair. As a result, these horrific,
scarring experiences have made me resilient nonetheless indomitable.
To initiate, there were three traumatizing encounters in which case motivated me to
become resilient. For instance, I m a love child raised by a single parent (my mother)
for thirteen years. My father abandoned me the day before my fifth birthday, I haven t
seen or heard from him since then. Although, I was in fragile devastation, my mother

To emphasize, she has been prolonged in a hospital for over two months due to
critical conditions of her sickness. Though it was excruciating I visited her as
much as I was permitted. I knew I had a minimum amount of time to spend with
her so I made every possible second count. It was exactly one week and three days
before Christmas day when she passed. I planned to give her her present the day of
Christmas but was unfortunately unable to. I was in extreme agonizing pain and
for this reason I became detached from myself and the world for a half a year, but I
knew I couldn t stay this way for the rest of my life so I strived to cope with these
traumatizing obstacles which eventually led to become resilient.
As has been noted, my resilience has proven that I am able to modify laborious
obstructions through triumph. Even though I ve had a few barriers such as
abandonment and deaths in the family, they ve made a significant impact in my life
and have created the person I am right now. Many say I m a preeminent person,
others assume I m an affect less person, however I m neither. I m just an eighteen
year old girl with an execrable

By acquiring DreamWorks the main advantage that the company will be able to
derive is the fact that this will help the company in consolidating the market
position of the company. Another important factor that will probably be a guiding
light for the acquisition is the fact that recently the company has not fared well in
the box office. This will result in the fact that Pixar will have to pay lesser price
while trying to acquire the company. However the company has traditionally
challenged Disney at the box office by offering the films that tell stories with a bit
more subversion and humor as compared to Disney. The company DreamWorks
has also acquired a loyal following in the countries like Russia, Korea, China and
Brazil unlike any other studios (Shaw, 2013). Thus if Pixar is able to successfully
acquire Dream works then it will able to command a significant portion of the
foreign market. As the world of animation is no longer a monopoly the companies
have to all the time strive to be better and to consolidate their position in the market.
The acquisition of DreamWorks will provide that perfect opportunity for Pixar.

Garden City And Garden City
Introduction
In late 19th, because of a dramatic increase of population, increasing urbanization and
industrialization, cities had been overcrowded and the environment was being
destroyed as well. Furthermore, more and more people moved to the urban cities
from rural area for having more job opportunities. Consequently, cities were over
centralizing. It is contributed to the slums in city which is the cause of disease
breaking out. It leads to the decrease of human s life quality in urban cities. Moudon
(1997) points out that control by the private sector, unhealthy rapid economic growth,
overcrowding, poor sanitation, poor housing, weak government control, unorderly
and unplanned improvement, diseases epidemics and increased public health ... Show

These cities would have adequate space of residential habitation, industrial work and
agricultural production. In order to shift people who moving to the urban cites to
the suburbs, a concept of garden city setting was coming out by Ebenezer Howard.
His idea was inspired by the utopian wave which existed from mid and the close of
19th century. Howard (1902) idealized that in garden city, a 6,000 acre site would
have 32,000 people living in. Furthermore, there was a sustaining potential which is
the limit of the population density in garden city plan, so they would build a new
garden city nearby when another city has reached the limit. In Howard s book,
there is a central city surrounded by lots of garden cities which could afford 50,000
people. Roads and rail is the way linking those garden cities. The aim of garden city
planning is to create a beautiful, sociable and healthy communities with both a good
natural environment and high quality of housing affordability. A combination of the
active and energetic city lifestyle with the delight and the beauty of the countryside
was the way to achieve it.
Moreover, in order to well organize the garden city movement, a concept of town,
country, and town country magnets was published in Howard s book. According to
Howard (1902), different magnets have different characteristics. Town magnet with

Theropod Dinosaur Research Paper
Lisa Randall, a cosmologist who studied at Harvard, affirms on her theory that sixty
В¬six million years ago, based on her dark matter disk model, a miniscule tic,
caused by an invisible force in the distant reaches of the cosmos, threw a comet three
times the width of Manhattan towards the Earth at about 38,500 miles per hour. The
crash created the most powerful earthquake of all time and released energy a billion
times that of an atomic bomb, like a burning incinerator, the atmosphere dramatically
heated and killed three quarters of life on Earth. As a result, creatures less than 55
pounds survived; among them were some dinosaurs: the Microraptor that stood about
16 inches, the Theropod which averaged about two feet long and weighed about
seven pounds and the Saltopus, also standing about two feet. As you might know,
ordinary matter contains an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The smart, quick theropod dinosaur that provided growth to birds may have had
feathers, but it did not fly and undoubtedly didn t resemble birds today. Just
replicate of a pigeon s acrobatics. Or the legendary dive of the peregrine falcon,
which can spot pigeons from 3,000 feet and drop to earth, at 200 miles an hour, for
a deadly strike. That s a long way from running on land, a transformation that
improves quickness and agility, demanding not only wings and flight feathers but
strident senses and refined brains for long distance vision and high speed action.
Sure enough, birds skulls have room for relatively vast eyes and for a brain that
have expanded in area dedicated to the visual sense. Although, Randall s periodicity
model projects that a major meteoroid is not expected to hit the earth for another 32
million years, our civilization s impact on the planet is like that of a slow moving
comet directed for destiny, but different from the one that changed dinosaurs, Randall
reminds us, we still have a chance to avoid its
How Vietnam War Affected America
The United States war with Vietnam was undoubtedly a different kind of war .
Guerilla tactics and a largely jungle environment throughout the theatre of Vietnam
made this a supremely unique conflict in the annals of American military history.
Faced with this type of unique enemy and terrain, the American Armed Forces
undoubtedly had to evolve and adapt their tactics accordingly. One element that is
particularly extraordinary and exclusive to the Vietnam War is the development of
highly organized scout snipertraining. Prior to the Vietnam War, the United States
had
zero trained snipers. By the time the War had ended, trained American snipers had
killed more than 13,000 enemy soldiers. The impact of these efforts must be
examined on a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Almost immediately, the program began churning out success stories. This new
type of warfare was utterly foreign to many Marines. Lying and waiting on a near
invisible enemy to appear and subsequently pulling the trigger only once as
opposed to large scale firefights was counterintuitive during this time period.
Nevertheless, the Marine Corps managed to find marksmen who also possessed
qualities such as patience, unwavering nerves, and a great deal of confidence. Due
to the dire need for snipers at this point in the war, enlisted men spent only three
weeks in Land s sniper training program. Despite the haste in which these men
were trained, the 17 original snipers in the 1st Brigade rack up more enemy kills
than any other Corps combat battalion in their first three months in the field. The
most striking advantage such successful organized sniping brought to American
forces was its sheer economic efficiency. In what is often viewed as a war of
excess; a war of tremendous financial and human cost, organized scout sniping
offered a tremendous amount of value to the United States Armed Forces.
According to figures released by the Department of Defense, the average number
of rounds expended in Vietnam to kill one enemy solder with the M 16 was 50,000.
The average number of rounds expended by U.S. military snipers to kill one enemy
soldier was 1.3 rounds. That s a cost difference of $23,000 per kill for
Ford Pinto Essay
In the late 1960 s Ford Motor Company, losing ground to the Japanese imports,
Ford needed to design a vehicle that could compete against Japanese imports in
sales. Wanting to release the vehicle in 1971, Ford decided to design and produce
the Ford Pinto in twenty five months instead of the normal forty three. In doing so,
Ford was unable to complete a crash safety test on the rear of the vehicle until the
vehicle was produced. When the test was finally completed, it was found that the
rear collision did not meet expectations as compared to other vehicles of the same
class and of the same era. It was discovered that the vehicle had a high probability
of catching fire when struck in the rear at speeds exceeding twenty miles per hour
due to a rear bumper bolt rupturing the fuel tank at impact. Ford engineers researched
a solution to the issue that would have cost the company approximately eighteen
dollars per vehicle by installing a baffle that would reduce the chance of fire
significantly. However, before implementing the measure, Ford decided to perform a
cost analysis that weighed the cost of installing the baffle on all of the vehicles
through recall or during production, versus the estimated cost in lawsuit... Show more

The first was to fix the issue at a cost of approximately eighteen dollars in parts per
vehicle. In doing the repair, Ford would have significantly increased the safety of
the vehicle. The second option was for Ford to ignore the problem based on a cost
analysis, finding that it would be cheaper to leave Pinto as is and pay out lawsuit
settlements in the event the vehicles caught fire due to collision. It is clear that the
parties involved in these actions were Ford Motor Company and the consumers that
purchased the Ford Pinto. The next step is to determine how these actions affect the
happiness of those
Stereotypes Of African-American Pop Culture
Stereotypes of African American women have been portrayed in American pop
culture date back to when African American slavery. Many authors credit the majority
of stereotypes regarding African American people to the 1915 film Birth of a Nation,
which was based on a novel called The Clansman (Carpenter, 2012). In reaction to the
quick development of the African American community in the United States during
reconstruction, this film declared that African Americans were dangerous,
uncivilized, and undeserving of their freedom (National Public Radio, 2015). The
film resulted in the second resurgence of the Ku Klux Klan, and introduced many of
the African American stereotypes still prominent in American media today, including
the Mammy and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have always considered former president Franklin D. Roosevelt to be one of the
better policymakers of the presidents, and I attributed this to the New Deal. It was
shocking to read that the New Deal assistance programs barely benefitted some of
the people that needed it the most. It was also surprising to know that the New
Deal was one of the reasons people began to believe in the deserving poor vs.
undeserving poor dichotomy. While I had never looked deeply into the source of this
dichotomy, I had assumed that it was a result of former president Reagan s policies.
While his presidency did not improve the situation for African American women in
need of welfare, the stereotypes and stigmas facing this population run much further
back in time than Reagan s
Patient Cloning System
Electronic health records (EHRs) are becoming more common among health care
facilities every day. They are intended to increase both the quality and usefulness of
documentation (AHIMA Work Group, 2013). There are many features that make
EHRs user friendly and can decrease work time for clinicians. However, some of
these same features, if not used properly, can cause a decrease in the integrity of the
record. It is important that providers are aware of these risks and are educate on
using the computerize records properly.
Copy/paste, or cloning is a very common feature of a computerized heath record that
bot enhances the use, but also puts the record at great risk. Copying of data can be

By removing old documentation, the chart is being altered incorrectly. However, if
the information is not removed, the current instructions given to the patient are
inaccurate and puts the patient at risk. To rectify this situation, I believe the discharge
documentation in our system needs to be totally revamped. Each set of discharge
instructions should be unique to that specific visit. Old information, accurate or
inaccurate, should not be taken from previous visits for the current visit. The pulling
of old information should be an option for the user, not something that automatically
happens. I believe this needs to be brought to the attention of our IT staff as soon as
possible so the records can stop being inaccurately changed, but most of all for our
patient s safety. Giving patients the incorrect information upon discharge can cause
great harm. People don t always here what their provider says, so the refer to the
instructions when they get home. If they see an old medication, they may think that
they must have missed the doctor telling them to take. Rather than calling for
clarification, they may inadvertently start taking a mediation that is not necessary or
that could interact poorly with a current

The Role Of Masculinity In Mental Health
Mental health. Closely related to notions of masculinity is mental health. As the
Canadian Mental Health Association [CMHA] (2018) and CMHF (2018) report,
beliefs about masculinity can discourage men s interest in health issues, and stigma,
fears of emasculation, vulnerability, and powerlessness in particular can dissuade
interest in mental health. For example, many men have lower awareness of
depression and anxiety symptoms or do not believe they are susceptible, and they
often do not link issues or symptoms like anger and insomnia, to emotional distress
(CMHA, 2018; State of Victoria, Department of Health 2015). Rather, men tend to
employ maladaptive behaviours, like numbing, which can lead to self destructive
behaviours, such as violence
Causes Of Water Scarcity In China
Water scarcity in China Huy Nguyen 8M Introduction:
Many of cities in China are water stressed, with millions of Chinese in rural and
urban areas lacking clean, accessible water which is suppressing the growth of the
Chinese economy and general health. China s water problems are mainly caused by
the wet and dry spatial distribution between Southern and Northern China
respectively, as well as wasteful usage of water and under education in aqueous
usage. However, this problem is being confronted with by NGO Lien Aid which has
helped build pipelines and taps for poorer areas of China.
Spatial Distribution China s main food source, rice, is largely grown in Northern
China, however, many of China s water supplies are located in the South with two
of China s largest rivers, the Yangtze and Huang He located there meaning there is
insufficient water for crop in Northern China. Due to Northern China being poorer,
it has had to grow and export crop which requires water, to the rich, wet South. With
many provinces in Northern China such as Hebei and Xinjiang exporting a large
amount of water in crop despite having to dig 200m to find usable water, this means
that the already poor provinces which are unable to fix its water crisis have to also
export much of its clean water in crops to supplement income.
The west of China faces the Gobi desert meaning provinces such as Xinjiang and
Hebei are desperately stressed
Cultural Landscapes In Roman Britain
Roman Britain, as a phrase, should be an oxymoron. In 55 BCE, Julius Caesar led
the first Roman military campaigns into modern day Britain, then known as
Britannia. Britannia was a land of dark forests, warlike barbarians, and mysterious
religious rites. Rome, on the other hand, was a meticulously ordered and controlled
empire that stretched around the Mediterranean. As the two cultures interacted,
however, a sort of cultural syncretism was achieved. This blend influenced the culture
of both areas, as well as their modern cultural landscapes. I d like to explore that
blend. Culture is hard to define, almost impossible to delineate. The interactions of
different cultures, then, are complicated and difficult to characterize. This is especially
Diversity In The Military
ORIGINAL POST After fifteen and a half years later, I am in a position with the
United States Air Force in which I can effectively influence the organizational
behavior. As a senior non commissioned officer (SNCO) I can teach, grow, and
mentor a great number of very young people that make the choice to enter our ranks.
With nearly 650,000 total force personnel, you can imagine the diversity that must be
embraced. To fully discuss diversity within the military, we would be here much
longer than this assignment allows. For today, I am going to hone in on the
individual differences and intelligence. Diversity is the condition of having or being
composed of different elements . (Merriam Webster, 2017) Within the military, the

This is a question that top levels of leadership have been battling for decades. There
is no single absolute answer. From my experience, working with one hundred
different people across ten different locations or offices, there are one hundred
different way to effectively incite positive work ethic and emotional intelligence. The
factors that come into play are the individual s background (i.e. where and how they
were raised), their age (what generation are they), their goals (both personal and
professional). These are just a few to start, but the list goes on. The key though is as a
good leader, we must find those buttons that trigger the outcomes we want, and start

A Discussion On Sex Education
Results showed over 335 out 4,214 were cutting themselves at this point in their life.
That shows 7.9% of the students have this addiction (Hall, p. 623, 2010). While
these numbers are everlasting changing, self harm needs to be addressed to all ages
just as other addictions are spoken about. Eating disorders are taught in the early ages
of elementary school. Sex education is taught the fifth grade. Self harmis not a
discussion in sex education (Khantzian 668). The only way this addiction is taught
to children is by explaining suicidal thoughts and having those thoughts turn into
forms of self injury. Teachers and parents are not able to recognize the effects until
it reaches a point where the person can no longer hide their pain. With the numbers
of this growing addiction and the urge to begin this addiction rapidly increasing,
the factors of self harm need to be discussed as one entity instead of comparing
them to another addiction (Wang 666). Different generations and different ethnic
groups are involved when it comes to self harm addictions. There is no single self
injurer profile. The rates of self harm continue to grow, especially in certain
communities (Hall 623). In an article Non suicidal Self Injury among Ethnically and
Racially Diverse Emerging Adults, research was performed to observe those with the
addiction of NSSI in specific ethnic groups. The groups were gathered and were
consisted of multiple races such as African Americans, Asians, Caucasians, and

During the summer, the lake becomes stratified as the surface becomes unequally
heated by sun. The way this works is by heating the surface by the sun. The wind
then moves the surface of the water to recycle the water. During the summer, the
colder dense water falls to the bottom of the lake and does not become apart of the
mixing process. Secondly, the heat from the sun can only go so far down and
penetrate only a select few meters of the lake. The total depth of the lake that can
be affect depends on how clear the lake water is. During the spring and fall, the lake
will undergo a period of turnover where there is equal temperature throughout the
lake and the water and nutrients move more freely when the wind blows across the
surface of the lake. This is the result of the cooling or warming of the water to equal
temperature, thereby creating a equal density throughout the lake. This would mean
the associated dissolved oxygen would become less stratified as a result of the

Character Analysis Of Napolewell And The Animal Farm
Mr. Jones
Mr. Jones was the original owner of the farm whose rule ended when the animals
rebelled. His character symbolizes that of the ruler of Russia prior to the
revolution, Tsar Nicholas II, who resigned from the throne due to unrest in the
people. Prior to the animal rebellion, Jones had lost money due to a lawsuit and his
farm suffered, his men were idle and dishonest, the fields were full of weeds...and
the animals were underfed (38). This was the breaking point that finally led the
animals to rebel. Correspondingly, the immediate cause towards Nicholas II s
abdication were food shortages (the driving force of the February Revolution).
Napoleon
After Jones was out of the way, Snowball and Napoleon became the two disagreeing
leaders. Napoleon represents Joseph Stalin, although he wasn t the immediate next
leader of Russia after Tsar Nicholas II was overthrown. Just as how Napoleon
executed animals who were a threat and the air was heavy with the smell of blood,
which had been unknown since the expulsion of Mr. Jones (Nicholas II was given
the name Nicholas the Bloody), Joseph Stalin had his reign of terror called the
Great Purge (93) where he executed many of his own people whom he believed were
against him. Another striking similarity was when Napoleon agreed to cooperate
with Frederick, selling him the pile of timber, and assured the animals that the stories
of an impending attack on Animal Farm were completely untrue (105). However,
Frederick did eventually
Universal Health Care
Universal Health Care is defined as the belief that all citizens should have access
to affordable, high quality medical care (Anderson, 2013). Currently there are 46
million that do not have health coverage in the United states and this would
drastically increase to 72 million if a health reform was not passed (The Economic
Case for Health Care Reform, 2012)Why the United States is the last to adopt this
government mandated insurance coverage, is possibly one of the most widely
asked question around the nation. This, however; is all in the process of changing
and will be completed by 2014 with the passing and implantation of Obama care.

Even though this has already taken effect and some people have already seen
some changes, there are still many more changes to be made before the US starts
to see a difference in not once the number of people covered but the deficit as well.
This year, (2013) people and small business can start to purchase their insurance
during a set open enrolment time frame but the tax credit will not become available
until 2014. You will only receive this credit if you your income is between 100% and
400% under the poverty level.
The Congressional Budget office believes that this plan will lower future deficits
and the future Medicare spending (Carney, 2012). In 2011 the payout for Medicare
and Medicaid was over 900 billion dollars (Is Medicare Spending the Biggest Driver
of the Deficit, 2012). The Current system in the United States denies access to
health care based on the person s ability to pay for the coverage before services are
required. Under a universal health care system all would have access to the
affordable medical care and in some cases be reimbursed some of the cost

Stormwater Contaminants
The road s surface will generate stormwater that will contain contaminants such as
hydrocarbons and heavy metals. The stormwater will be treated and directed into 6
wetlands, where the contaminants will be diluted and discharged directly into the
Marine environment. Although the contaminants will be diluted, the concentrations
of them in the receiving environments will gradually increase. There is likely to be
adverse effects on the affected environments due to the new source of contaminants.
The amount of contaminants has not been evaluated and the effects will be
determined by how effective the treatment of the stormwateris. The contaminants
could potentially result in the loss of some susceptible macroinvertebrates (Boffa

Azazel Short Story
Ch.1
In a small village, far far way from here. There was a little girl named Azazel, who
was going through the worst hair day you could ever imagine. As she brushes and
brushes her hair more and more gets caught and tangled in her brush. So she flings it
out her window in anger.
Azazel, your mother grows weaker by the day, come say goodbye for I fear this is the
end.
Her father says as he walks into the room and stands behind her
Yikes. That s some head of hair you have there, you had better fix that before you go
outside.
He continued as Azazel continued to fiddle with the tangle of hair on her cowlicked
head. She goes to visit her mother down the hall for what is supposedly the final
time. Ch.2
Azazel s mother lays in her sick bed, dying from makeup poisoning. Azazel rushed to
her mother side. When her mother spotted the mess of her child her eyes widened in
surprise,
My child, my dear precious Azazel. You re such a mess. I have something that will
help you, oh dear... but it will be quite a quest.
The mother states wearily,
Oh please mommy I ll do anything to look better on your last look of me.
Azazel exclaims excitedly at the prospect of taming her hair for her mother s final
breath.
Very well, you need to find the diamond hair tie, the silver hair spray, and the golden
bobby pins. Find the wise woman in the forest of fears to get the bobby pins, she will
tell you where to go next.
As the mother spoke she became more and more tired,
Now go, go before I fall
Analysis Of The Afterlife By Lance Armstrong
There are no heroes... in life, only the monsters win . To John Richardson this quote
could not be anymore true. In Richardson s article, The Afterlife, he writes about
Lance Armstrong s miraculous recovery from testicular cancer to winning the Tour
de France seven consecutive years in a row, and becoming a hero to cancer patients
around the world, to then becoming the greatest cheater of all time. No man has
ever been looked up to so much by so many people and then despised by everyone
until Lance Armstrong. By analyzing Richardson s use of interviews, perfect heroes,
and Armstrong s blood, we can clarify his argument: that Armstrong became the
greatest cheater of all time, and he does not apologize for it. The interview with the
Livestrong president, Doug Ulman, tells us something very surprising. After people
had discovered that all of Armstrong s winnings were won by blood doping, he had
been kicked out of his own organization, The Lance Armstrong Foundation. Once he
had been kicked out, they changed the name from The Lance Armstrong Foundation
to The Livestrong Foundation. No one wanted Lance Armstrong s name associated
with their organization, or with anything in fact. It was then assumed that Armstrong
would never be accepted back into his foundation, but Ulman tells us [i]f he decided
that being a leader in the cancer community is what he wants to spend his life
doing... the foundation would welcome him Wood 2 back (Richardson 83). This was
news to Richardson and
The Exchange Rate And Auto Parts Manufactures
The case study The Exchange Rate and Auto Parts Manufactures shows two
companies which are suppliers to the US automobile company DaimerCrhrysler, and
that companies based outside of the US. As the consequence of the importing
machines from the United States, companies faced difficulties based on the exchange
rate fluctuations.
First company SMS were faced difficulties with the exchange rate of USD and euro.
The CEO of the SMS Elotherm company, Udo Pfeiffer, took measures to avoid the
loss. He raise price in dollars to compensate the fall in the value of dollar, but finally
manufacturers were constantly pressuring machine tool companies to lower prices,
not to raise them .
Another example of company shows us a company that was much more successful
than SMS, Keiper, which based in Germany and exporting metal frames for cars to
the US. Company invest money in the manufacture in Canada, when the exchange
rate of euro were equal to the US dollar. But there were some disadvantages of
being based in Canada and it raised a costs of the Keipers work. In addition,
company faced problems with exchange rate because the company still produces
some parts in Germany and sent to US.
Every country has its own currency, which is a means of payment and allows various
types of financial transactions within the country. However, between different
countries is also necessary to make any cash payments or transactions. An exchange
rate measures the value of one currency against the value

Analysis Of Albert Einstein s Essay On Racial Bias In 1946
#6 Albert Einstein s Essay on Racial Bias in 1946 by Trent Gilliss and Albert
Einstein The Negro Question by Albert Einstein is an incredibly smart, thought
provoking, and forward thinking for something that came out in the 1940s. Aside
from the idea that discriminating black people is bad, many of the ideas expressed
here are concepts that some people still do not understand. For example, the idea
that one should be more mature before dealing with the political or complex issues
of a nation is something people still do not realize today. Young people are still
criticized for having their own possibly ill informed opinion, even if they were raised
to think that way. In addition, Einstein s example of Aristotle thinking slaves were...

This anxiety about a possible deep, hidden racism in America has not only been
exclusive to Maryland. With the combination of the election and police brutality,
there is no doubt that anxiety and tensions are very high in the current state of our
country.
#8 Who, me? Biased? by The New York Times Implicit bias is a concept that
originally gained esteem during the 2016 election. It is defined as unconscious
assumptions or stereotypes that are race related. For example, if someone pulled up
two pictures, a white female and a black male, and told you that one of them
committed a crime, you are likely to choose the black male. You re not racist, you
have just been consuming all this media and images that paint black people or
specifically males as being criminals. There are many options to attempt to fix this
bias implanted in you. First, one should take a test to see if they even have a bias
in the first place. If yes, then they should attempt to overcome it. They can do this
by either hanging out with people of another ethnicity to learn who they are or to
address that the racial anxiety exists and to work from there. In my opinion, this
idea of implicit bias is incredibly important for people to learn about and possibly fix
if necessary. Before this video, I had never heard of implicit bias and I always just
figured I was stereotyping people whenever I had thoughts like the ones presented in

The Final Years Of The British Raj Essay
Week Two: The Final Years of the British Raj
After doing the readings for this week I decided it may be beneficial to watch a

The Flame Burns Bright is considered a good documentary depicting India before it

Do the other minority ethnic or religious groups living in India see themselves as a
distinctive and separate group that would rather form their own nation?
Furthermore, I am interested in learning more about how India is able to function
despite having such a diverse ethnic and religious make up. The British encouraged
a divide between Indian Muslims and Indian Hindus. The British needed these two
religious groups to be divided in order to keep their control. They wanted citizens
to identify themselves through their religion, not as Indians. By keeping India
divided, Britain would be able to remain in control. If Britain had encouraged
cohesion and unity, would this have helped bridge the gap between these two
religious groups? For example, the Great Calcutta Killings of 1946, could this event
been avoided? The Great Calcutta Killings remind me of what happened in Rwanda
in 1994. A conflict in which people who were once neighbours were killing each
other for belonging to a different religious or ethnic group. Both situations resulted in
a bloody massacre of innocent people and the complete disregard of human life. In
both cases people associated their identity with religion or ethnicity, instead of
building a communal national identity. The horrors of the Great Calcutta Killings
were gruesome and unsettling to hear about. The atrocities that occurred were
horrible and it was hard

As in the article by Chris Rutter titled Color Theory Fundamentals For Digital
Photography , Rutter states: It is easy to take color for granted; after all, it is how
we see the world every day. But color plays such an integral part in our emotions
and in our perception of a scene that knowledge of the nature of color and how to
capture it in your images will give impact and expression to your photography.
(Rutter) That is well said, as a society we do take color for granted, because
visually it s in our perception every day. From the natural blue color of the sky in
La Palma Prison to Cruz s Untitled series in blue or black jumpsuits graphical, it s
just a color, but the emotion can be expressed by more than just color. The main
difference for the emotion in the La Palma Prison is more focus on the color of
emotion, as where Cruz captured the emotion of the judge and the inmate more in the
sense of facial emotion, but we can connect the sadness in the color blue of the sky.
Someone that s not paying attention and analyzing it in such a way would not catch
this association. As for

Inglorious Basterds Comparative Essay
Aside from the controversial revenge plots, both films establish their message
through the inclusion of motifs and metaphors. One motif is of blood staining white
objects throughout the film. In the scene where Dr. Schultz shot a Brittle brother
fleeing on horseback. In this scene, the impact of the bullet caused blood to splatter
onto the whiteof the cotton plants. Later in the film, a white flower that was worn by
Calvin Candie was stained with blood when he was shot directly in the heart by a
bullet from Dr. Schultz. The significance of this motif a metaphor showing that the
purity and pedestal of white success during the pre civil war era, is tarnished,

Despite all the similarities these films have, I feel the revenge fantasy in
Inglorious Basterds is more justified than Django Unchained. I agree with Bonilla s
point that movies are a reflection of the time period of which it was made and
Django Unchained was intended to serve that role. Although Django Unchained
had a strong anti slavery message, many critics felt the film did not address the
racial issues that are still present in America. The revenge plot in Inglorious
Basterds was unequivocally anti Nazi, with its plethora of burned swastikas and
slain Nazi s; Tarantino made it very clear the enemy. However, the message was
not as clear in Django Unchained. Yes, there is a strong anti slavery message, that
is made clear through the plot and anti slavery motifs, but is the film attempting to
address more? Tarantino does not make this clear at any point during this movie
forcing the audience to make assumptions as to whether this is just an anti slavery
film or if it is also anti racism. As a result of this ambiguity, the message of Django
Unchained is not as clearly defined as it
Media Violence And Violent Behavior
One Punch Media
While violence is not new to the human race, it is an increasing problem in modern
society. With greater access to firearms and weapons, the scope and efficiency of
violent behavior has massive potential for serious consequences. Society needs to
only look at the recent school shootings and the escalating rate of youth homicides to
comprehend this ominous trend. While every child is different and the causes of
youth violence are multifactorial, there appears to be a correlation between media
violence and aggressive behavior within the group of vulnerable adolescents.
Before proceeding, it is important to define two terms clearly: media violence and
violent behavior. Different people have used different definitions of these terms at
different times, but for this research paper, media violence is defined as visual
portrayals of acts of physical aggression by one human against another. This
definition has evolved as theories about the effects of media violence have evolved
and represents an attempt to describe the kind of violent media presentation that is
most likely to teach the viewer to be more violent. Violence happens frequently in
America and people die because of the lack of ethical training. The problem is not
necessarily the one that appears as a clear and present danger because it
masquerades itself as a just the cultural shift into a new era of insensitivity.
Americans see violence every day in their media and so it has almost lost the potent

different now than when he took it. He had to take it over three days and had 20

Individual enterprises categorized under the chemical industries have realized their
strengths and weaknesses and are preparing themselves to face the new challenges to
fight the competition in the sector. Success stories in dyes and agrochemicals have
boosted the confidence of Indian manufacturers to take on global competition in a
positive manner. Some of the advantages of Indian chemical industry include
1.Due to its low infrastructure cost, India has huge export potential. According to a
recent report, India s chemical exports have the potential to raise upto US$ 300

2.India has the capacity for high value addition in its stock as it is close to the

3.In some categories of chemicals, India does have the advantage for exports by
establishing strategic alliances with countries like Russia due to the countries better
capabilities in chemical products.
4.Availability and abundance of raw materials for agro based products, such as castor
oil provide an opportunity to India to yield significant value addition in the country.

Viola De Gamba
The viol also referred to as the viola de gamba is a bowed and six stringed
instrument played in the 1400s. It had moveable frets made of gut strings which
would change the tone of the chords when moved. One likely ancestor of the viol
is the rabab, a bowed string instrument played by the Moors of Aragon in the
twelfth and thirteenth centuries and whose da gamba posture and oblong shape
resemble that of early Renaissance viols (Weinfield). The viol was typically found
being played in consort, or a courtyard, during the Renaissance Era and was a very
popular instrument. Its sound was produced by the bowing of the viol s resonating
strings. The psaltery is a cross between a lyre and a harp and belongs to the zither

The Role Of Death In Eschatology And Human Suffering
Death is the end of life and is a topic that is always hard to discuss and understand.
With the times evolving the topic at hand is not as difficult to approach, think, and or
talk about. According to John Meyer, This fascination with death in the
contemporary world is probably a healthy sign showing people s maturity in not
being afraid to face the fact and certainty of death(104). Universities have participated
in the topic as well to put that subject in the back of each young student s minds, and
letting them be able to face or understand death. The speech that I attended on
practical matters with the death and dying process ties with the subjects of
Eschatology, Human Suffering, and Moral and EthicsChapters. I attended the second

During the speech, the panel discussed how the more you talk about death the
easier it may become to face. In the Reese it states that, God has placed the power
of choice and determination in our hands, that individual has the choice for their
path. Additionally, the topic of human suffering. The critical nurse Mr. Kiersch
discussed the importance in family members asking questions about their loved one
s conditions. Life isn t always perfect and beautiful disasters happen and lives are
tragically changed or ended (Reese 128). Death is not perfect or beautiful, but
understanding the role in life it has. Reese States that, Christians come to realize they
live in a fallen, unfair world; one that either afflicts us with suffering or surprises us
with bountiful increase (128). Last subject I will be discussing is about morals and
ethics. The panel discussed the importance to discuss the What if type questions with
family. William Reese points out that moralityis, having choices, freedom, the
ability to make good decisions, and a desire to do what is right, every individual
wants to do the right thing and make the right choice for that family member passing.
In some situations, the family may not be prepared with those types of questions, and
will have to do what they think is morally right for that family member. William
Reese states that, for the Christian believer, what I

consuming process of reading over and picking apart each piece of evidence in a
painfully careful manner, a jurycomes to a final verdictof not guilty. It was originally

The director may have done this in order to add a certain vintage feel to the movie,
or for a reason never specified. The time period did, however, affect the diversity in
the movie. Coming out only a mere three years after the play, not much had been
done to make progress towards acceptance of diversity, and the movie followed the
character descriptions in the play essentially exactly. The film also contained open
smoking within a closed space, which is a reflection of the time period as well, for
it is rare to find this currently. One specific detail exclusive to the original movie,
similar to the ticket fact of the play, was the existence of rain at the end of the film.
The director may have also felt this would add to the mood of the movie, as the
black and white image did. This ending, probably the most beautiful of the three, is a
representation of the message as well. Juror #8 compassionately helps juror #3 with

A Defense Of Abortion By Judith Thomson
When it comes to ethical issues in the world, there are not many more controversial
issues outside of the topic of abortion. Abortion brings in emotion, religion and
ethics all at once, which is why it is such a polarizing topic. This leads to having
many on each side of the debate, such as Judith Thomson and John Noonan. Thomson
makes many valid analogies in support of abortionin comparison to Noonan who just
refutes basic arguments for abortion, and it is for this reason that Thomson is more
persuasive.
While Thomson makes many different analogies in his essay A Defense of Abortion
, none were as persuasive as the famous violinist analogy. In the analogy, Thomas
paints the picture of someone being kidnapped and their kidneys being used to
support the life of the violinist. Thomson uses this argument to represent the idea of a
woman supporting the life of a child or fetus at the expense of their own. Thomson
goes on to show the reader that the idea of unplugging yourself is not unjust,
therefore unplugging yourself from a fetus is not unjust as well. The question of
rape is also addressed with this analogy as the violinist is violating the victim s body
just as the rapist does. Thomson goes on to modify the analogy throughout the essay.
The first modification to the analogy is that the act of supporting the violinist will
kill you, just as sometimes birth may kill a woman. In either case, it is widely
accepted that unplugging yourself or aborting the baby is within

plan that meets the desired health outcome. It is a valuable quality of the nurse
practitionerto establish a working relationship with the patient, provide current
information, and allow the patient to make an informed healthcare decision which is
best for them (Dunphy, Winland Brown, Porter, Thomas, 2015).
Importance of Providing Cost Effective Care In a time when healthcare costs in the
United States exceeds 2.7 trillion dollars, it is never been such an imperative as it
is now, to provide cost effective healthcare. The cost of diagnostic testing alone
accounts for 10 percent of total healthcare costs. The advancement in diagnostic
imaging and laboratory testing has escalated these costs due to misuse or overuse in
diagnosing patient s aliments for fear of diagnostic errors. It is estimated that 25
billion dollars per year, in the United States is spent on inappropriate diagnostic
testing (Newman Toker, McDonald, Meltzer, 2013). Technology advances and the
demand for advanced diagnostic testing have progressively escalated, creating a
quandary on what is an appropriate diagnostic test and what is not a diagnostically

Religion In Emily Dickinson
Emily Dickinson was one of the most ambiguous authors of her time. Her poetry
remains a mystery to so many readers and her lack of biographical information
makes her writing even more intriguing. Dickinson spent most of her life away from
society, therefore, very few people knew how she viewed the aspects of life, let alone
knew what her writing meant. Her interpretations of concepts such as religion, nature,
and death are often seen as contradicting and pinning one specific thesis on her views
is difficult because she viewed many things with complexity. Among her poems,
readers see a diversity in her perspectives. For example, she might write one poem
about the beauties of nature and continue to write another poem about the dangers or

Similar ambivalent themes are seen in Dickinson s views of death. Death is
primarily seen in a negative light and she supports that perspective in I heard a Fly
buzz when I died When Dickinson starts this poem, the reader senses a feeling of
control from the narrator. The narrator is ready for death and accepting it; she
writes I willed my keepsakes Signed away/ What portion of me be/ Assignable and
the audience sees her willingness to go. However, There interposed a Fly and this
fly s interruption created a change in tone. The narrator felt the windows fail and
this could be seen as a metaphor for losing her spot in heaven. This poem makes
death seem almost scary and one could assume that Dickinson views death this way.
Contrarily, in I like a look of Agony she portrays death as a serene, authentic
concept. The narrator says there is no faking death and that s what they most
appreciate of death. Dickinson creates a relaxing tone associated with death and upon
reading this certain poem, a reader may assume she views death as calm and genuine.
Emily Dickinson also wrote plenty about nature, seeing as she was constantly around
it rather than actual humans. Her views of nature vary from optimistic and
intoxicating to frightening and threatening. In her poem There s a certain Slant of
light , she carries a holy and amazed mood throughout it. Using words like Heavenly
and Cathedral support the holiness in the text. The narrator is amazed at the

Despite the advances made in both areas there has been minimal consideration of the
ways that strategic groups, not only industries and firms, influence HRM
strategies and practices in the pursuit of competitive advantage (Boxall, 2003).
Strategic group research identifies how groups of firms engage in similar
strategies in order to compete effectively within industries and shape industry
structure and competition. Panagiotou (2006 p. 440) defines strategic groups as:
[. . .] those groups of п¬Ѓrms within an industry, which are characterised by
similarities in their structure and competitive beliefs as well as their tendency to
follow similar strategies along key strategic dimensions in a specific operating
environment.
The performance differences between strategic groups are the focus for much of this
research, but mobility between groups and the structural dimensions of industries
have also received attention (Ferguson et al., 2000; Leask and Parker, 2006; Porter,
1980; Reger and Huff, 1993). As such strategic group research has developed as a
central research theme in strategic management. One of the most notable aspects of
strategic groups research is that it highlights and reinforces the importance of
particular industry contexts. This is an important
Theories Of Agency Theory
The agency theory explores risk sharing among individuals or groups. Risk sharing
situation raises a problem when co operating parties have different attitudes towards
risk. Agency theory broadens the risk sharing concept to include the agency problem
which occurs when co operating parties have different goals and there is division of
labour (Kathleen. 1989). According to an auditquality forum (2005), an agency
relationship arises when a principal (for example, an owner) engage another person as
their agent(or steward) to perform a service on their behalf. This leads to delegation of
some duties and responsibilities to the agent. Consequently, the principal has to place
some trust in the agent hoping that they will act in their best interests.... Show more

The consequence of these problems is that the principals may lack trust in their
agents and they may therefore need to put in place mechanisms, such as audit, to
reinforce this trust. Agency theory is concerned in solving these problems that arise
in an agency relationship. A simple agency theory model suggests that, as a result of
information asymmetry and self interest, principals lack reasons to trust their agents
and will seek to resolve these concerns by putting in place mechanisms to align the
interests of agents with the principals and to reduce the scope for information
asymmetry and opportunistic behaviour (Audit Quality Forum, 2005). According to
Jensen and Meckling (1976), agency theory attempts to describe the agency
relationship in the form of a metaphorical contract. That is, agency theory is a
contract in which the principal is represented by management in executing the
strategic goals and objectives and the auditors in providing assurance in their

  • 2. John Hay Open Door Policy John Hay, the Secretary of State, first articulated the Open Door Policy in 1899. The Secretary of State s intentions for the Open Door Policy was aimed to secure international agreements for policy, trade and commerce with China. Prior to John Hay, American policies with China were conducted under similar principles however, were not official until he put the policy in writing and proposed it to the powers in Europe. The Open Door was not an official United Statespolicy but was considered notes sent between the Far East in the late 1800 s and half of the 1900 s. The Open Door notes were never a policy and were only drafts of notes sent between John Hayand European countries in an attempt to establish equal trade commerce and equal port availability regardless of nationality. Hippisley and William E. Rockhill (history.state.gov). Both these men, experts in China economy, believed that China trades and port access would be best protected by an agreement. Hippisley and Rockhill suggested an agreement that would provide a formality in trade and commercial activity among European powers. During the same time the United States had just won the Spanish American war and had gained control of Guam, Philippines and Hawaii. With growing economical power, the United States became increasingly interested in China trade. Hippisley and Rockhill proposed their ideas to John Hay. Hay would construct and draft the initial agreement. John Hay sent the preliminary notes of policy to the countries that had an interest in trades and the ports open around China. These countries included Great Britain, France, Russia, Germany, and Japan. The original proposition was to establish a free and open market for equal trading opportunities between all nationalities invested with

Unlike joyful families you d habitually recognize, you d be astounded to realize my family is notoriously unhappy. The fact being, we have witnessed tragedies and have been driven to despair. As a result, these horrific, scarring experiences have made me resilient nonetheless indomitable. To initiate, there were three traumatizing encounters in which case motivated me to become resilient. For instance, I m a love child raised by a single parent (my mother) for thirteen years. My father abandoned me the day before my fifth birthday, I haven t seen or heard from him since then. By acquiring DreamWorks the main advantage that the company will be able to derive is the fact that this will help the company in consolidating the market position of the company. Another important factor that will probably be a guiding light for the acquisition is the fact that recently the company has not fared well in the box office. This will result in the fact that Pixar will have to pay lesser price while trying to acquire the company. However the company has traditionally challenged Disney at the box office by offering the films that tell stories with a bit more subversion and humor as compared to Disney. The company DreamWorks has also acquired a loyal following in the countries like Russia, Korea, China and Brazil unlike any other studios (Shaw, 2013). Thus if Pixar is able to successfully acquire Dream works then it will able to command a significant portion of the foreign market. As the world of animation is no longer a monopoly the companies have to all the time strive to be better and to consolidate their position in the market. The acquisition of DreamWorks will provide that perfect opportunity for Pixar. Walt Disney is a multinational company having its presence across several countries in the world. The business level strategy of the company focuses on differentiation. The products of the company associated with the brand image of the company and the brand identity of the company.

Garden City And Garden City Introduction In late 19th, because of a dramatic increase of population, increasing urbanization and industrialization, cities had been overcrowded and the environment was being destroyed as well. Furthermore, more and more people moved to the urban cities from rural area for having more job opportunities. Consequently, cities were over centralizing. It is contributed to the slums in city which is the cause of disease breaking out. It leads to the decrease of human s life quality in urban cities. In order to shift people who moving to the urban cites to the suburbs, a concept of garden city setting was coming out by Ebenezer Howard. His idea was inspired by the utopian wave which existed from mid and the close of 19th century. Howard (1902) idealized that in garden city, a 6,000 acre site would have 32,000 people living in. Furthermore, there was a sustaining potential which is the limit of the population density in garden city plan, so they would build a new garden city nearby when another city has reached the limit. In Howard s book, there is a central city surrounded by lots of garden cities which could afford 50,000 people. Roads and rail is the way linking those garden cities. The aim of garden city planning is to create a beautiful, sociable and healthy communities with both a good natural environment and high quality of housing affordability. A combination of the active and energetic city lifestyle with the delight and the beauty of the countryside was the way to achieve it. Moreover, in order to well organize the garden city movement, a concept of town, country, and town country magnets was published in Howard s book. According to Howard (1902), different magnets have different characteristics. Town magnet with refers to urban city is presenting high

Theropod Dinosaur Research Paper Lisa Randall, a cosmologist who studied at Harvard, affirms on her theory that sixty В¬six million years ago, based on her dark matter disk model, a miniscule tic, caused by an invisible force in the distant reaches of the cosmos, threw a comet three times the width of Manhattan towards the Earth at about 38,500 miles per hour. The crash created the most powerful earthquake of all time and released energy a billion times that of an atomic bomb, like a burning incinerator, the atmosphere dramatically heated and killed three quarters of life on Earth. As a result, creatures less than 55 pounds survived; among them were some dinosaurs: the Microraptor that stood about 16 inches, the Theropod which averaged about two feet long and weighed about seven pounds and the Saltopus, also standing about two feet. • 8. How Vietnam War Affected America The United States war with Vietnam was undoubtedly a different kind of war . Guerilla tactics and a largely jungle environment throughout the theatre of Vietnam made this a supremely unique conflict in the annals of American military history. Faced with this type of unique enemy and terrain, the American Armed Forces undoubtedly had to evolve and adapt their tactics accordingly. One element that is particularly extraordinary and exclusive to the Vietnam War is the development of highly organized scout snipertraining. Prior to the Vietnam War, the United States had zero trained snipers. By the time the War had ended, trained American snipers had killed more than 13,000 enemy soldiers. This new type of warfare was utterly foreign to many Marines. Lying and waiting on a near invisible enemy to appear and subsequently pulling the trigger only once as opposed to large scale firefights was counterintuitive during this time period. Nevertheless, the Marine Corps managed to find marksmen who also possessed qualities such as patience, unwavering nerves, and a great deal of confidence. Due to the dire need for snipers at this point in the war, enlisted men spent only three weeks in Land s sniper training program. Despite the haste in which these men were trained, the 17 original snipers in the 1st Brigade rack up more enemy kills than any other Corps combat battalion in their first three months in the field. The most striking advantage such successful organized sniping brought to American forces was its sheer economic efficiency. In what is often viewed as a war of excess; a war of tremendous financial and human cost, organized scout sniping offered a tremendous amount of value to the United States Armed Forces. According to figures released by the Department of Defense, the average number of rounds expended in Vietnam to kill one enemy solder with the M 16 was 50,000. The average number of rounds expended by U.S. military snipers to kill one enemy soldier was 1.3 rounds. That s a cost difference of $23,000 per kill for
  • 9. Ford Pinto Essay In the late 1960 s Ford Motor Company, losing ground to the Japanese imports, Ford needed to design a vehicle that could compete against Japanese imports in sales. Wanting to release the vehicle in 1971, Ford decided to design and produce the Ford Pinto in twenty five months instead of the normal forty three. In doing so, Ford was unable to complete a crash safety test on the rear of the vehicle until the vehicle was produced. When the test was finally completed, it was found that the rear collision did not meet expectations as compared to other vehicles of the same class and of the same era. It was discovered that the vehicle had a high probability of catching fire when struck in the rear at speeds exceeding twenty miles per hour due to a rear bumper bolt rupturing the fuel tank at impact. Ford engineers researched a solution to the issue that would have cost the company approximately eighteen dollars per vehicle by installing a baffle that would reduce the chance of fire significantly. However, before implementing the measure, Ford decided to perform a cost analysis that weighed the cost of installing the baffle on all of the vehicles through recall or during production, versus the estimated cost in lawsuit... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first was to fix the issue at a cost of approximately eighteen dollars in parts per vehicle. In doing the repair, Ford would have significantly increased the safety of the vehicle. The second option was for Ford to ignore the problem based on a cost analysis, finding that it would be cheaper to leave Pinto as is and pay out lawsuit settlements in the event the vehicles caught fire due to collision. It is clear that the parties involved in these actions were Ford Motor Company and the consumers that purchased the Ford Pinto. The next step is to determine how these actions affect the happiness of those

As the Canadian Mental Health Association [CMHA] (2018) and CMHF (2018) report, beliefs about masculinity can discourage men s interest in health issues, and stigma, fears of emasculation, vulnerability, and powerlessness in particular can dissuade interest in mental health. For example, many men have lower awareness of depression and anxiety symptoms or do not believe they are susceptible, and they often do not link issues or symptoms like anger and insomnia, to emotional distress (CMHA, 2018; State of Victoria, Department of Health 2015). • 14. Causes Of Water Scarcity In China Water scarcity in China Huy Nguyen 8M Introduction: Many of cities in China are water stressed, with millions of Chinese in rural and urban areas lacking clean, accessible water which is suppressing the growth of the Chinese economy and general health. China s water problems are mainly caused by the wet and dry spatial distribution between Southern and Northern China respectively, as well as wasteful usage of water and under education in aqueous usage. However, this problem is being confronted with by NGO Lien Aid which has helped build pipelines and taps for poorer areas of China. Spatial Distribution China s main food source, rice, is largely grown in Northern China, however, many of China s water supplies are located in the South with two of China s largest rivers, the Yangtze and Huang He located there meaning there is insufficient water for crop in Northern China. Due to Northern China being poorer, it has had to grow and export crop which requires water, to the rich, wet South. With many provinces in Northern China such as Hebei and Xinjiang exporting a large amount of water in crop despite having to dig 200m to find usable water, this means that the already poor provinces which are unable to fix its water crisis have to also export much of its clean water in crops to supplement income. The west of China faces the Gobi desert meaning provinces such as Xinjiang and Hebei are desperately stressed
  • 15. Cultural Landscapes In Roman Britain Roman Britain, as a phrase, should be an oxymoron. In 55 BCE, Julius Caesar led the first Roman military campaigns into modern day Britain, then known as Britannia. Britannia was a land of dark forests, warlike barbarians, and mysterious religious rites. Rome, on the other hand, was a meticulously ordered and controlled empire that stretched around the Mediterranean. As the two cultures interacted, however, a sort of cultural syncretism was achieved. This blend influenced the culture of both areas, as well as their modern cultural landscapes. I d like to explore that blend. Culture is hard to define, almost impossible to delineate. The interactions of different cultures, then, are complicated and difficult to characterize. This is especially

Eating disorders are taught in the early ages of elementary school. Sex education is taught the fifth grade. Self harmis not a discussion in sex education (Khantzian 668). The only way this addiction is taught to children is by explaining suicidal thoughts and having those thoughts turn into forms of self injury. Teachers and parents are not able to recognize the effects until it reaches a point where the person can no longer hide their pain. With the numbers of this growing addiction and the urge to begin this addiction rapidly increasing, the factors of self harm need to be discussed as one entity instead of comparing them to another addiction (Wang 666). Different generations and different ethnic groups are involved when it comes to self harm addictions. There is no single self injurer profile. The rates of self harm continue to grow, especially in certain communities (Hall 623). His character symbolizes that of the ruler of Russia prior to the revolution, Tsar Nicholas II, who resigned from the throne due to unrest in the people. Prior to the animal rebellion, Jones had lost money due to a lawsuit and his farm suffered, his men were idle and dishonest, the fields were full of weeds...and the animals were underfed (38). Just as how Napoleon executed animals who were a threat and the air was heavy with the smell of blood, which had been unknown since the expulsion of Mr. Jones (Nicholas II was given the name Nicholas the Bloody), Joseph Stalin had his reign of terror called the Great Purge (93) where he executed many of his own people whom he believed were against him. Another striking similarity was when Napoleon agreed to cooperate with Frederick, selling him the pile of timber, and assured the animals that the stories of an impending attack on Animal Farm were completely untrue (105). First, it must be noted that ASC 450 20 25 2 indicates the following: 25 2 An estimated loss from a loss contingency shall be accrued by a charge to income if both of the following conditions are met: a. If we are to interpret this case as reasonably possible but not probable or reasonably estimable, we can say that the losses in question meet the ASC 450 20 50 3 criteria, thus requiring disclosure. Also, given that the fallout from this litigation could have a potentially significant detrimental impact on investors and other stakeholders, it is necessary for disclosure to be made as it could considerably affect future net cash flows. • 24. Analysis Of The Afterlife By Lance Armstrong There are no heroes... in life, only the monsters win . To John Richardson this quote could not be anymore true. In Richardson s article, The Afterlife, he writes about Lance Armstrong s miraculous recovery from testicular cancer to winning the Tour de France seven consecutive years in a row, and becoming a hero to cancer patients around the world, to then becoming the greatest cheater of all time. No man has ever been looked up to so much by so many people and then despised by everyone until Lance Armstrong. By analyzing Richardson s use of interviews, perfect heroes, and Armstrong s blood, we can clarify his argument: that Armstrong became the greatest cheater of all time, and he does not apologize for it. The interview with the Livestrong president, Doug Ulman, tells us something very surprising. After people had discovered that all of Armstrong s winnings were won by blood doping, he had been kicked out of his own organization, The Lance Armstrong Foundation. Once he had been kicked out, they changed the name from The Lance Armstrong Foundation to The Livestrong Foundation. No one wanted Lance Armstrong s name associated with their organization, or with anything in fact. It was then assumed that Armstrong would never be accepted back into his foundation, but Ulman tells us [i]f he decided that being a leader in the cancer community is what he wants to spend his life doing... the foundation would welcome him Wood 2 back (Richardson 83). This was news to Richardson and

Aside from the idea that discriminating black people is bad, many of the ideas expressed here are concepts that some people still do not understand. For example, the idea that one should be more mature before dealing with the political or complex issues of a nation is something people still do not realize today. Young people are still criticized for having their own possibly ill informed opinion, even if they were raised to think that way. In addition, Einstein s example of Aristotle thinking slaves were... Biased? by The New York Times Implicit bias is a concept that originally gained esteem during the 2016 election. It is defined as unconscious assumptions or stereotypes that are race related. For example, if someone pulled up two pictures, a white female and a black male, and told you that one of them committed a crime, you are likely to choose the black male. You re not racist, you have just been consuming all this media and images that paint black people or specifically males as being criminals. There are many options to attempt to fix this bias implanted in you. First, one should take a test to see if they even have a bias in the first place. If yes, then they should attempt to overcome it. They can do this by either hanging out with people of another ethnicity to learn who they are or to address that the racial anxiety exists and to work from there. In my opinion, this idea of implicit bias is incredibly important for people to learn about and possibly fix if necessary. Before this video, I had never heard of implicit bias and I always just figured I was stereotyping people whenever I had thoughts like the ones presented in the

Furthermore, I am interested in learning more about how India is able to function despite having such a diverse ethnic and religious make up. The British encouraged a divide between Indian Muslims and Indian Hindus. The British needed these two religious groups to be divided in order to keep their control. They wanted citizens to identify themselves through their religion, not as Indians. By keeping India divided, Britain would be able to remain in control. If Britain had encouraged cohesion and unity, would this have helped bridge the gap between these two religious groups? While every child is different and the causes of youth violence are multifactorial, there appears to be a correlation between media violence and aggressive behavior within the group of vulnerable adolescents. Different people have used different definitions of these terms at different times, but for this research paper, media violence is defined as visual portrayals of acts of physical aggression by one human against another. Abortion brings in emotion, religion and ethics all at once, which is why it is such a polarizing topic. This leads to having many on each side of the debate, such as Judith Thomson and John Noonan. Thomson makes many valid analogies in support of abortionin comparison to Noonan who just refutes basic arguments for abortion, and it is for this reason that Thomson is more persuasive. While Thomson makes many different analogies in his essay A Defense of Abortion , none were as persuasive as the famous violinist analogy. In the analogy, Thomas paints the picture of someone being kidnapped and their kidneys being used to support the life of the violinist. Thomson uses this argument to represent the idea of a woman supporting the life of a child or fetus at the expense of their own. Thomson goes on to show the reader that the idea of unplugging yourself is not unjust, therefore unplugging yourself from a fetus is not unjust as well. The question of rape is also addressed with this analogy as the violinist is violating the victim s body just as the rapist does. Thomson goes on to modify the analogy throughout the essay. The first modification to the analogy is that the act of supporting the violinist will kill you, just as sometimes birth may kill a woman. In either case, it is widely accepted that unplugging yourself or aborting the baby is within

It is estimated that 25 billion dollars per year, in the United States is spent on inappropriate diagnostic testing (Newman Toker, McDonald, Meltzer, 2013). Technology advances and the demand for advanced diagnostic testing have progressively escalated, creating a quandary on what is an appropriate diagnostic test and what is not a diagnostically worthwhile
  • 44. Religion In Emily Dickinson Emily Dickinson was one of the most ambiguous authors of her time. Her poetry remains a mystery to so many readers and her lack of biographical information makes her writing even more intriguing. Dickinson spent most of her life away from society, therefore, very few people knew how she viewed the aspects of life, let alone knew what her writing meant. Her interpretations of concepts such as religion, nature, and death are often seen as contradicting and pinning one specific thesis on her views is difficult because she viewed many things with complexity. Among her poems, readers see a diversity in her perspectives. For example, she might write one poem about the beauties of nature and continue to write another poem about the dangers or ... Death is primarily seen in a negative light and she supports that perspective in I heard a Fly buzz when I died When Dickinson starts this poem, the reader senses a feeling of control from the narrator. The narrator is ready for death and accepting it; she writes I willed my keepsakes Signed away/ What portion of me be/ Assignable and the audience sees her willingness to go. However, There interposed a Fly and this fly s interruption created a change in tone. The narrator felt the windows fail and this could be seen as a metaphor for losing her spot in heaven. This poem makes death seem almost scary and one could assume that Dickinson views death this way. Contrarily, in I like a look of Agony she portrays death as a serene, authentic concept. The narrator says there is no faking death and that s what they most appreciate of death. Dickinson creates a relaxing tone associated with death and upon reading this certain poem, a reader may assume she views death as calm and genuine. Emily Dickinson also wrote plenty about nature, seeing as she was constantly around it rather than actual humans. Her views of nature vary from optimistic and intoxicating to frightening and threatening. In her poem There s a certain Slant of light , she carries a holy and amazed mood throughout it. Using words like Heavenly and Cathedral support the holiness in the text. The narrator is amazed at the

Despite the advances made in both areas there has been minimal consideration of the ways that strategic groups, not only industries and firms, influence HRM strategies and practices in the pursuit of competitive advantage (Boxall, 2003). Strategic group research identifies how groups of firms engage in similar strategies in order to compete effectively within industries and shape industry structure and competition. Panagiotou (2006 p. 440) defines strategic groups as: [. . .] those groups of firms within an industry, which are characterised by similarities in their structure and competitive beliefs as well as their tendency to follow similar strategies along key strategic dimensions in a specific operating environment. The performance differences between strategic groups are the focus for much of this research, but mobility between groups and the structural dimensions of industries have also received attention (Ferguson et al., 2000; Leask and Parker, 2006; Porter, 1980; Reger and Huff, 1993). As such strategic group research has developed as a central research theme in strategic management. One of the most notable aspects of strategic groups research is that it highlights and reinforces the importance of particular industry contexts. This is an important
  • 46. Theories Of Agency Theory The agency theory explores risk sharing among individuals or groups. Risk sharing situation raises a problem when co operating parties have different attitudes towards risk. Agency theory broadens the risk sharing concept to include the agency problem which occurs when co operating parties have different goals and there is division of labour (Kathleen. 1989). According to an auditquality forum (2005), an agency relationship arises when a principal (for example, an owner) engage another person as their agent(or steward) to perform a service on their behalf. This leads to delegation of some duties and responsibilities to the agent. Consequently, the principal has to place some trust in the agent hoping that they will act in their best interests.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The consequence of these problems is that the principals may lack trust in their agents and they may therefore need to put in place mechanisms, such as audit, to reinforce this trust. Agency theory is concerned in solving these problems that arise in an agency relationship. A simple agency theory model suggests that, as a result of information asymmetry and self interest, principals lack reasons to trust their agents and will seek to resolve these concerns by putting in place mechanisms to align the interests of agents with the principals and to reduce the scope for information asymmetry and opportunistic behaviour (Audit Quality Forum, 2005). According to Jensen and Meckling (1976), agency theory attempts to describe the agency relationship in the form of a metaphorical contract. That is, agency theory is a contract in which the principal is represented by management in executing the strategic goals and objectives and the auditors in providing assurance in their
