One way poverty can be eliminated is to educate the population for employment
opportunities and with financial knowledge. Numerous teenagers drop out of school

requirement for the majority of all jobs. Parents, schools and the government need to
offer additional incentives to keep children in school in order to seek higher

the need to build more. David Brower a prominent environmentalist says we have
diminished our soil, fisheries, fossil fuels and we have changed the climate. We
caused the extinction of countless species by half. Over consumption has reached a
point of harming Americans health and the overall environment. According to John

For my third outside reading project of the year, I chose to read Flags of our
Fathers by James Bradley. Bradley s book fascinated me as it shifted from a
soldier s pre war everyday life to their experiences with Iwo Jima and WWII.
Throughout his story, the third person point of view gave a unique opportunity to
set the historical context of a war imprinted into nearly everyone on this planet s
history. The authors use of chapters was ingenious as the choice gave him an
ability to show phases throughout the war torn era whether it was in as a young
American man looking for a purpose, the naive young soldier etching for a fight, or
the experienced vet on his way home from a traumatic world war. The story starts
as giving some much needed historical context, explains his connection and

of how they met. This is not serendipity. Serendipity is when one person is on a
search trying to find an answer, or a specific item, and then finding something
better and not expecting it. These two terms are used together often to describe how

would be a better word to use since each person was trying to buy socks for their

In the book, Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse, there are many themes that are
developed throughout the story. One of those themes is that there is nothing more
important that you own than your family. In the text it states, Wish I could run home

(page 99) This quote shows that Billie Jo loves her mother, and kind of took her

Though out this class I learned a lot, I never really read much poetry and did not
realize how much meaning poems can have. I am glad that we read so many
different types and styles of poems and books. It really helped me get a well
rounded understanding of poetry. My favorite unit was the collection unit. The other
poems we read taught me a lot about the other topics we touched on as well. Before
this class I never really gave poetrymuch thought, this class opened up my eyes to
how important poetry really is. The poem that stood out to me the most from the
speaker, and narrative vs lyric unit was Lorena by Lucille Clifton. I really enjoyed
this poem and it made it easy for me to understand the concept of speakers. Lucille
Clifton wrote the poem, but wrote it about a experience Lorena Bobbit went
through. It was hard for me to understand how a poem could have a speaker other
then the author but this one made me see how sometimes the author is not
necessarily the speaker. I thought about/authority and how it always insisted/on
itself (pg. 57, 2 4). These lines contain the phrase I , but when Clifton uses the
phrase I , she herself is not the individual, Lorena Bobbit is meant to be the speaker.
This poem was a narrative, it told a story about the even Lorena actually lived
