Without connection to others there is no me
Throughout our lives, everyone that we share bonds with and interact with on a regular basis, either
forms or has some sort of influence on our identity. Consequently, the majority of us naturally find
ourselves striving to fit in with these people, especially during the tough transition from childhood
to adulthood. It is this part of the human condition that makes us feel as though we must forge ties
with something outside of ourselves in order to establish a strong sense of existence and a clear
understanding of who we are. Although most individuals are able to make these connections with
others naturally, others who stray from the social norm might not be so fortunate, but rather than ...

But still, she didn t let anyone s disapproval of her identity deter her, and continued to carry the
burden of being alienated in order to remain true to herself. By expressing her homosexuality with
self assurance, others were eventually forced to accept Ruby for who she was, and she has since
gone on to be extremely successful in life, having been selected to act in a number of films
including the Australian comedy Suite for Fleur , designing her own fashion range, and much
more. In 2008 and 2009, she was also chosen as one of the 25 Most Influential Gay and Lesbian
Australians by Same Same , an Australian online gay and lesbian community. This indicates that
true existence can only be found when our decisions and actions are truly our own; when we stand
alone and free of connections, without social influence.
Considering a different perspective, it can be argued that both sides of the argument are true to a
certain extent, in that we are able to possess a sense of existence whilst devoid of most
connections, but there are some affiliations such as the bonds we share with our family that we
cannot live without. A sense of acceptance from our familial ties and intimate relationships with
others shape who we are. These connections ideally provide love, protection, security and the
opportunity to discover our values, attitudes, and beliefs that help to define us from the time of our
birth. In The Member of the Wedding ,

Summary Of The March Of Washington Speech
In the speech that took place during the March of Washington, the speaker John Lewis argues in
favor of African American rights. Lewis purpose when delivering the speech was to make people
aware of the difficulties that African Americans are going through at that time as well as to
encourage them to fight for their rights that they deserve. Lewis maintains a serious and agitated
tone that helps persuade the audience into realizing the hardships that African Americans must go
through on a daily basis because they do not have rights and uses a series of rhetorical strategies
that help strengthen his point. John Lewis represented the people that were prohibited to have their
rights, and when giving the speech, he hopes to create a difference not only in the world but also
within the people themselves. John Lewis begins his remarks by revealing his attitude that civil
rights leaders should not congratulate themselves yet and that there is still a long road before
African Americans have true freedom. To immediately complicate the notion of being satisfied with
the progress of the civil rights movement that other speakers proclaimed, he announces, We march
today for jobs and freedom, but we have nothing to be proud of (para 1). The essence of Lewis
argument is that the leaders of the civil rights movement are marching for workplace fairness and
equality for African Americans, but they should not stop and congratulate themselves. Significantly,
this opening statement reveals

Summary Of I Am My Dad
Come here my children let your grandma tell you a story, a true story that had happen to your
grandpa and I. This story takes place in 2015 when your grandpa was 17 and I was 16. We were
so young then. You may say you want to be older but when you turn my age you re going to
wish time slowed down. Gosh those were such happy days if only I could go back in time to
when your grandpa and I were traveling the world together but that s a different story for another
time. Let s get back to the story now where did I leave off at ... oh I remember now. It was your
aunt Erin, grandpa, your grandpa s friend Corey, and myself of course. We just got invited to the
biggest Halloween party ever. The party was at an old abandon hospital that no one had been to
in many years. Everyone at the school had heard stories about why it was abandon but no one
believed in them. The story I heard was that the hospital was built over a cemetery which
happens to open on Friday the 13th but they closed it down a year later because a demon would
attack anyone that walk through those hospital doors. I guess it was a good thing they were at
the hospital. *I laugh.* Your grandpa and I were face timing each other on our iPhone 6 (those
are what we had before all the new gadgets came out) we were going over what costumes to wear
so we could win the costume contest. Your aunt Erin was Super Girl, Corey was Batman, your
grandpa was Superman, and I was Super Woman. There was only one day until the Halloween

crash land in the Canadian forest, but now he has another problem. Survival. Brian now has to learn
how to live again.

The Exploration Of Group Work
In this research paper the exploration of group work will be examined. This paper will take an
in depth look into the process of formulating groups by creating a social concern that can be
addressed in a group setting. This process of constructing a group will be exposed through
planning which is a critical step to group success like: defining a purpose, determining if group is
open or closed, size of the group, space, meeting times, and obtaining participants. Throughout this
paper understanding phases of groups like beginning, working, termination, and roles of the leader
play a vital role in formulating groups. With the aid of evidence based practice this paper will show
how all elements of groups when intertwine with one another, and implemented at appropriate time
help groups to reach their maximum potentials.
In this paper the population and social concern to be addressed in a group setting will be Veterans

Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Essay
The motivating principle behind IDEA was to ensure an equal opportunity for all children. In
order to affect that idea, we have to find a balance between all children s needs. In 1975, came the
passage of the federal Education of All Handicapped Children Act, now revised as the Individuals
with Disabilities EducationAct (IDEA, 1990). For handicapped children, the law was long overdue.
The designers of IDEA saw themselves as progressive reformers, designing fairer, more responsive
schools. The lawmakers were attempting to rectify two historical injustices. First, public schools
were not serving many of the country s eight million handicapped children, with as many as one
million children not attending school. Second, a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The IEP would be reviewed and revised annually, and parents would have grievance procedures
to challenge decisions. The law required educators to place handicapped students in general
classrooms whenever possible or in the least restrictive environment. The mandate to provide a
free and appropriate education for children regardless of disability and to provide that education
in a regular classroom whenever possible, effectively striped educators of the authority to
transfer or suspend any student classified as needing special education. This would not have been
an issue if it only included the wheelchair bound or blind students who we typically think of as
disabled. However, over the past few decades, the increasing number of children classified under
the disability categories of Learning Disabled and Emotional Disturbance has shot up. Not so long
ago, these children were called unmanageable or antisocial. Now, part of the definition of emotional
disturbance is an inability to build or maintain satisfactory interpersonal relationships with peers
and teachers. Often teachers and principals will refer children with an emotional disturbance to
special education classrooms perhaps because they see the mandated state and federal money, at
the very least, as a promise to help the neglected and damaged population of children beset with
social and emotional problems. It could be that

Hollins University Personal Statement Sample
I would like to apply for Summer Statistical Research Experience Undergraduate Program. I heard
about this internship from my Math professor, Dr. Julie Clark. I am an international student from
Nepal. I intend to major in Mathematics Statistics, and Environmental Science at Hollins
University. I have a comprehensive background in Mathematics and Science, my emphasis is
researchand data collection. I enjoy this concentration because I find great satisfaction being part of
the problem solving process.
Through a previous internship in Nepal with Trail Bridge Support Units (TBSU), I was able to
work in rural villages and connect with villagers. Our goal was to construct sustainable trail
bridges that would connect two communities. I assisted with data collection; surveying local
people to pinpoint their needs. Since I spoke with villagers directly, I was able to find the middle
ground between former data and people s needs making progress in TBSU s goal to carry out
bridge construction. In addition to this field work, my background with Statistics, Environmental
Science, and Ecology has improved my research skills and understanding of ... Show more content

that I have learned in my Mathematics Statistics class to conduct research. I am always curious to
observe application of Mathematics in real life. So far my classes are most theoretical and I hope

The Day Of The Kitchen
When Sheamus walked into the classroom several weeks later, he realized that everyone was
acting strangely, especially Ms. McMahon. Sheamus, she asked sweetly, Would you mind doing
something very important for me? Okay, Sheamus replied. What is it? I need you to go down to
the kitchen and see if the cooks need any help, Ms. McMahon said. But, Sheamus protested, The
cooks don t like us. Don t worry about that, Ms. McMahon pointed out dismissively. They really
need help, she insisted. Whatever you say, Ms. McMahon, Sheamus responded with a shrug. He

going on here? he asked suspiciously. You didn t forget, did you? Punk questioned. It s your
birthday. Happy birthday! the class cried joyously. Of course I didn t forget, Sheamus retorted,
grinning happily. Just wasn t expecting this, that s all. Well, since we didn t get to jump out and

hopefully at the teacher. Fine, Ms. McMahon sighed, sounding defeated. You may use the radio.
With a collective cheer, the children dragged the radio out of its place in the closet and commenced
the party.

Some time afterwards, the bell rang for recess and the children scrambled outside into the snow. At
Sheamus s request, it was quickly decided that they would have an all out snowball war. Teams were
hastily selected and bases speedily built. The small Kindergarten armies squatted behind monstrous
mounds of snow and secretively plotted war strategies. Finally, the time came to strike. Everyone
rushed out onto the battlefield, seemingly forgetting all notions of their previous planning. Snow

The Color Purple vs. The Joy Luck Club Essay example
The Color Purple is a biased, unbalanced view into the life of black women during the early to
mid nineteen hundreds. While it is obvious that a woman who in her own right is racist, chauvinist,
and ignorant to the way that the world really works wrote the novel, it has been requested that the
class write a paper on the story. Whilst this writer does not agree with this novelor anything that
Alice Walkerthinks or feels, obligingly this paper is been written. The Color Purpleand the Joy

embarrassing male characters.

So instead I tell my mother this: I don t really know. It s something we started before we got
married. And for some reason we never stopped. (Tan 177)
It is clear from the tone of the discussion that the idea hurts Lena inside, especially since she
makes less than Harold. Amy Tan wrote it this way so that the reader would pity Lean and see
Harold as a money grubbing bastard.
Rich is the second example of a weak male character in The Joy Luck Club, and his main flaw is
gross ignorance. His new live in girlfriend is Waverly. An entire section of the book is dedicated
to the first meeting between Rich and Waverly s mother and father. During the entire section, Rich
makes one blunder after another. He brought a lovely bottle of red wine for dinner, not knowing
that the Chinese do not stereotypically drink wine. He fumbled with the chopsticks, took huge
portions and refused seconds, and regrettably added a hefty amount of soy sauce to all of the food.
In possibly the biggest blunder of the night not only did he call Lindo and Tin Jong by their first
names but he butchered them calling them Linda and Tim. At the end of the night his ignorance
came into play again;
I knew he had failed miserably in her eyes.

Indentured Servants During Early Colonial Times
Indentured Servants Indentured servants were used in early colonial times as a means of
passage to the new world. The cash crops of the early settlers were exhaustingly labor intensive.
In fact, U.S. History (2015) indicated that the growth of tobacco, rice, and indigo and the
plantation economy created a tremendous need for labor in Southern English America (p. 1).
The technology did not exist at the time for machinery that clears the ground and works the land
as it does today. The work had to be done by hand; from clearing and prepping the fields to
harvesting the crops, it was all manual labor for which the new land did not have ample supply
of. Coming to the New World Life in England during the early 1600 s was harsh for a multitude
of the poor. The country was just coming out of the Thirties Year s War with a flood of citizens
and laborers displaced. In fact, PBS (2015) indicated that the timing of the Virginia colony was
ideal. The Thirty Year s War had left Europe s economy depressed, and many skilled and
unskilled laborers were without work. A new life in the New World offered a glimmer of hope;
this explains how one half to two thirds of the immigrants who came to the American colonies
arrived as indentured servants (para. 3). This opportunity for those willing to receive free passage
to the New World and start a new life was enticing. Granted, the work was difficult it was not
without reward. The majority of these servants that survived the trip and his

The Anti Heroes Of Truman Capote s Cold Blood Are Perry...
There are many novels wherein the main character in an anti hero. Anti heroes are the twisted
versions of wholesome protagonists; protagonists have pure ideals and motives, while an anti hero
s end motives usually justify the morally grey means that he or she achieved them by. The readers
of such novels usually root for the seemingly villainous protagonist, this anti hero . The anti heros
in Truman Capotes In Cold Bloodare Perry Smith and Dick Hickock. These two men are reported
to be cold blooded killers in this nonfiction novel, and yet many readers root for these anti heroes,
thanks to Capotes retelling of events. Truman Capote attempts to humanizes these killers by sharing
their pasts with the reader, which trigger sympathy or hatred, depending on how Capote portrays
them
In order to humanize the killers, Capote gives background stories on their lives, which trigger
sympathy in Perry s case. Perry first reads a letter from his father to the Kansas State Parole
Board, written the first time Perry was held in Lansing, for larceny, theft, and jailbreak. Perry s
father writes about how Perry s mother fell to drinking and split the family, and how Perry had
to live moving from city to city, hunting and trapping. Perry s father Tex John Smith writes How
well I know that Perry is goodhearted if you treat him rite. Treat him mean and you got a buzz saw
to fight... He knows life is to short to sweet to spend behind bars ever again (Capote 130). This

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation In Newborns
Newborn Resuscitation Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a skill that almost anyone can
learn to perform. It can be lifesaving when performed on a newborn whose breathing or
heartbeat has stopped. When the heart stops beating, the flow of blood to the brain and other
vital organs also stops. This can cause brain damage or death if not treated within minutes. CPR
for newborns is different from CPR for children or adults. The steps of CPR for newborns are
based on an A B C sequence: airway, breathing, and circulation. Performing CPR on a newborn
may be necessary when: The newborn has been born early (prematurely). The newborn is not

immediately. Chest compressions mimic the beating of the heart, and help circulate blood through
the newborn s body. Begin compressions in the center of the chest, about two inches below the

newborn s chest. Push your thumbs down until the newborn s chest moves down 1.5 inches (4 cm).
Use two fingers if you cannot do compressions with your thumbs. Allow the chest to return
completely to its normal position before the next compression. After every 3 compressions, provide
1 assisted breath. There should be 90 compressions and 30 breaths during each minute of newborn
CPR. в—‹ If there are 2 rescuers, the rescuers should change roles every 2 minutes to maintain
quality and rate of chest compressions. The switch should take place as quickly as possible (in less

Designing A Home Program Activities
1)Tyler recommends simple, naturalistic activities as part of a home program, focused on auditory
stimulation through modeling and not requiring productions, at least not until the child has
achieved correct production in single words in treatment.
a)Why would it be important for the home program activities to be simple and naturalistic?
Through this type of program, the child is in a more natural environment with activities that are
more familiar to him/her. Modeling the target sounds and providing auditory stimulation while
going through the routines of home life (e.g., getting dressed, reading a book, and going to bed)
gives the child functional opportunities in learning and acquiring speech. Furthermore, these simple
routine are repeated daily, meaning the child has that much more exposure to the target sounds.
b)Why would you not want the client to be practicing productions at home until they can produce
single words correctly in therapy sessions?
The client would already be able to produce the sound in single words, which makes it easier for
carryover in the home. The parents would be better capable of modeling and stimulating those
sounds in words through easy activities (e.g., picture cards).
c)Come up with several home activities that you could recommend to parents that would fit these
criteria.

when the American empire makes a move it is carefully thought out and it so perfectly always ends

if America would have annexed Cuba, the Cuban people would have a lot of help with American

The Threat Of The Tropical Cyclone
Introduction
Throughout the nation, natural, technological, and man made disasters jeopardizes communities as
a whole. Many people rely on their local communities emergency preparedness plans, while they
should be utilizing their knowledge, information provided for them, and using their capabilities to
ready themselves and their families. The outcome that can come from any disastrous event mainly
relies on how you respond to the specific threat, and the steps one takes to minimize the risks of
such a scenario. Being from Florida, I have been subject to several types, and forms, of disasters;
but the most common and the one that can pose one of the greatest threats is the tropical cyclone,

tropical cyclones. Many families, including my own, that has been a resident of Florida for a
multitude of years has experienced numerous storms and aware of their capabilities. Over the past
quarter decade alone, there have been severe landings that have stricken the Florida Coast line, such
as Hurricane Andrew in 1992, Hurricane Irene in 1999, and the four storms that landed in 2004,
Hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne.
All of these landings have convinced many people to seek further knowledge and to conduct better
preparation standards in the inevitability of another landing. In fact, Chris Landsea, through the

the U.S., the locations that have the highest chances are the following: Miami, Florida 48% (

chance of being hit by a hurricane. With the high percentage of Florida possibly being struck each
year, many residents have possibly become disillusioned about the possible catastrophic damage
these storms can truly cause.
In addition to the residential firsthand knowledge, and reoccurrence of these natural disasters,

A body of scientific research over the past 50 years shows that people notice race, as well as
gender, wealth, and even weight. Should racial identities matter? I don t think so. We should see
the person for who they are and not what color of skin they have. I like the say don t judge a
book by its cover because I believe that you should get to know a person before you make any sort
of judgment or evaluations of them.
There is something called the power of racial bias, which is often concealed. Some think that
calling it a racial bias lessens the blow of being called a racist. People claiming bias can admit
they may have acted in racially insensitive ways but were unaware of their subconscious
motivations. Someone can think racist thoughts, but never actually behave in a racist manner. Most
people don t self identify as a racist because they don t take any action upon it. People think that
just because they don t act upon it, that they shouldn t be considered racist; however, thoughts and
views can be a small form of racism. For example, if you saw a large black man at night would you
be a little scared? What about if that man were white? Would you flinch a little in both

a title holder who fails this obligation will lose title to the land in question to the adverse
possessor. (Adverse Possession of, n.d.). There are four elements that must be satisfied for property
to be held adversely. First, the possession must be actual and exclusive. The possessor must take
sole physical occupancy of the property. In this case, the possession of the gazebo was exclusively
hers.
The next element is that the possession must be open, visible, and notorious. Danny could see
that Lisa had possession of the gazebo since she was not being secret or clandestine. Lisa built the
fence between her and Danny s yard so she had the gazebo on her land for all the world to see.
Third element of adverse possession is that the possession must be continuous and peaceable for the
required period of time. Assuming that the state in question has an adverse ... Show more content on

Although there was no hostility displayed in this case, Lisa had the gazebo built on the property
without the permission of the owner. With this scenario, Lisa has a great case to claim adverse
possession. She has met all the elements required to win this case.
Since Danny knows where his boundaries of his property is from the survey, he would be able
to prove encroachment. An encroachment is when another person puts up a structure that
intrudes on (or over) your land . (Find Law, n.d.). There are several possible remedies for
encroachment that Danny could use. He could just talk to Lisa. The gazebo and fence could be
moved to satisfy both parties. This would save Danny and Lisa both the legal fees of the eviction
suit. Danny could sell Lisa the land that the gazebo and fence is on, giving Danny the money for

Differences Between The Wallaby And Eukaryony In Kingdom...
Do you know about the wallaby? The Wallaby is an animal that looks like a kangaroo. Though
they have many similarities with the kangaroo, they are slightly different from the kangaroo.
Most common way to distinguish the difference between the wallaby and kangaroo is their size.
The Wallaby is much smaller than the kangaroo. Their heights are about 30 to 180 and they
weight about 20kg. They can run up to 48kms per hour and live from 12 to 15 years.
(Anonymous, no date) The Wallaby belongs in Kingdom Animalia. (N, P, et al, 2015) Kingdom
Animalia s animals are eukaryotic. This means the cells have membrane around the nucleus. The
Wallaby is also heterotrophic, so must eat something. The Wallaby is a herbivore, so it eats
plants or fruits. (No author, no date) The Wallaby is mobile, so it can move freely. The Wallaby
has many cells because it is multicellular and the cells have to live together unlike colonial
organisms. Wallabies do sexual reproduction, which means they need two DNAs (father s DNA
and mother s DNA) to make a baby. Because of these attributes, the wallaby is in Kingdom
Animalia.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

nerve that helps the brain communicate with the small nerves. It is protected by the notochord. All

Explanation Of The Intj Personality Type
Explanation of the INTJ personality My personality type is INTJ(the scientist). The I stands for
introverted which means I tend to be preoccupied with my own thoughts and feelings and isolate
myself from other people. The N stands for iNtuitive which means i have the ability to understand or
know something without any direct evidence ( gut feeling ).The T stands for thinking which means
I make decisions with logic and not emotions.Lastly the J stands for Judging which means I plan
ahead of time instead of improvising. INTJs focus their energy on observing the world, and thinking
about ideas and possibilities. our mind constantly gathers information and makes assumptions about
it. We are insightful and usually are very quick to understand new material. However, our main
interest is not understanding a concept, but rather using that concept in a useful way.Becsuse of
INTJs need for organization and there insightful thinking would make them great sciencetist. An
INTJ scientist gives their ideas into a useful form for others to proceed from.It is not easy for a
INTJ to express their mental images and thoughts. The internal form of the INTJ s thoughts and
concepts is organized, but is not openly translatable into a form that others will understand, but the
INTJ s are motivated to translate their ideas into a way that is usually explainable(meaning they
want people to understand them). They also have difficulty expressing their ideas and feelings.

How Did Janis Joplin Influence Popular Culture
In the late 1960 s, the height of her career, Janis Joplin was titled the Queen of Rock n Roll . To
this day, she still lives on as one of the most influential women in the music industry. Her raspy,
blues inspired voice left audiences speechless, and her success paved the way for the advancement
of women in the music industry. Her lyrics reflected her carefree spirit and love of the blues, but
also her opinions on social and political issues. These positions made her an outcast before her
fame, but today they are part of the reason she is so respected. Janis Joplin was born on January
19th, 1943, in Port Arthur, Texas. Port Arthur was a conservative town, which was hard for
Janis. She was different from her peers, and not well liked. In an interview on the Dick Cavett
show, when discussing why she left Texas, Janis said They laughed me out of class, out of town,
and out of the state (qtd. in Janis Interview). She dressed how she wanted, often wearing clothing
meant for men; she didn t discriminate against black people; and she loved the blues. Rock n roll

God One Cannot Suffer Without Merited Suffering Analysis
Religion has always played an instrumental role in the foundation of society, 17th century France
perfectly exemplifies this heavy reliance on religion when faced with the dilemma of animals
souls. European life, along with Descartes theory on animal souls, depend exclusively on the
presence of God, if animals souls were to be proven, the trust in Godwould be diminished along
with any justification given to humans for the treatment of animals, leaving the question of true
human purpose.
(I) Religion and the bible were looked to by many as a guide of right and wrong ways to live, the
existence of animal souls would have made the treatment of animals unjust.

An Indian Woman s Experience With Imperialism
The basis of imperialism is established by depriving nations of their true identity, self confidence,
and independence. Dominance is best put as power and influence over others. This idea of
dominance is bewildering. Who would have thought that holding more power than another
individual would exist in this world when we were all created as equals from the start? Being
seen as more powerful because one s skin color is lighter than another or because one has more
wealth is preposterous. Imperialism involves a far more powerful country taking over a weaker,
less powerful country while exploiting the people as well as the resources. Author, Kamala
Markandaya thoroughly captures the effects of imperialism along with dominance within the world

This can be seen when Rukmani s son Arjun states It is not enough. I am tired of hunger and I am
tired of seeing my brothers hungry. There is never enough, especially since Ira came to live with

other choice but to work at the tannery unless they wanted to starve. Even though the villagers
may have not wanted to work under British rule, they had no other choice. The tannery had such
a major impact on the villagers lives. While the tannery can be seen as a good way for many
individuals in the village to get jobs, this is one of the only benefits the tannery provided. While
jobs were created, the workers still received a low pay and had to work under harsh conditions.
The main purpose of the tannery was to make leather products and sell them. This had nothing to
do with global progress and in fact, everything to do with gaining power and sovereignty. The
British used these Indian peasants to become even more dominant. Similarly, this idea of having
no choice can be seen in history when Indians were either sent away to work abroad in factories

Analysis Of Mirror By Sylvia Plath
Mirrors reflect the innermost part of the soul. A mirror can show you at your most beautiful and
your most unpleasant times. Sylvia Plath s poem Mirrors , conveys a message that is much deeper
than the words printed on the page. The denotation of Mirrors provides the reader a basic reading
of the poem, whereas the connotation gives a deeper meaningto the work. Plath s word usage
conveys two meanings to Mirrors, allowing the reader to better personalize the work. I am silver
and exact. I have no preconceptions. / Whatever I see I swallow immediately / Just as it is,
unmisted by love or dislike. / (Plath 739 lines 1 3) Reading these lines obviously describe a
mirror. The mirror is a first person narrator describing itself; it is silver and exact with no
preconceptions . It takes in whatever looks at it and feels no emotion towards it. Studying the
text shows a deeper meaning. The mirror is exact, nothing is wrong with the object itself. The
mirror does not have any feelings, it will not judge whomever is looking into it. Whatever looks
into the mirror will see its entire self, without filters of love or dislike. The next lines follow I am
not cruel, only truthful / The eye of a little god, four cornered. / (Plath lines 4 5) The mirror is not
mean, it only shows the object its true reflection. It seems to be a god like entity since it sees all.
The connotation is seen as the mirror shows you who you truly are. It casts back an image that
some are happy with

Americans During the 17th Century, Europeans flocked to the Americas in search of new lives and
opportunities. Upon development of their new colonies, the discovery of native inhabitants posed
questions for both parties on how to coexist. At first, most European colonies and their surrounding
native population worked together, but as time passed, a growing insensitivity towards each other
led to controversy. In most cases, socially, colonies in the Americas tolerated Native Americans, but

The Schuman Declaration is the foundation of the European project that we live in today. In his

came as a surprise because only five years passed since devastating World War II came to an end.

Marx. The novel successfully shows that capitalism can logistically separate classes to the point
where it is morally unfair. Wells is also supported by current events. In America, our middle class

capitalistic economy is ridiculously uneven. Marxist communism on the other hand would place
primary ownership of the means of production in the hands of the state, creating a classless

Throughout this survey, my educated guess on the students is whenever they listen to Hip Hop

Henry David Thoreau s Civil Disobedience
In Henry David Thoreau s Civil Disobedience , Thoreau makes the claim that the best form of
government is a government that doesn t govern at all. Thoreau s paper pushes for the people to
begin following the will of their conscience rather than blindly and foolishly follow the unjust idea
of majority rule . Throughout the paper Thoreau makes a point of stating that majority rule is
simply the will of the upper class being forced into action over the rights and wills of the poorer
minority. This paper openly criticizes and condemns many institutions and policies of the American
National government. Because Thoreau wrote this paper during the Mexican American War he
uses in it, in addition to slavery, to reinforce his statement of all political decisions merely being
the wills of the strongest citizens put into action. For the purpose of this assignment the paper has
been divided into three significant parts, Thoreau did not have these divisions. In the third part of
Thoreau s paper he begins writing about his own acts of civil disobedience. He moves from his
discussion of his night in jail, talked about in the second part, to his various reasons for accepting or
refusing to pay certain taxes. From here Thoreau continues to statethat he is not sure how long he
can maintain his resolve to deny the government, stating that he is in constant search of a reason to

Comparision of Alexander the Great and Augustus Ceasar
Alexander the Great and Augustus are two different individuals from two different time periods and
they are both famous for their accomplishments. Alexander is one of the greatest military geniuses
who by the age of 33 had conquered most of Asia. Alexander thought of himself as the son of Greek
god Zeus. Augustuswas the first emperor of Rome who brought peace and stability to the Roman
Empire. He was the grandson of the sister of Julius Caesar. His original name was Caius Octavius,
but when he was adopted by the Julian gens (44 B.C.) he became Caius Julius Caesar Octavianus
(Octavian). He was named (given the title) Augustus later when he became the First Emperor or
Rome by the senate. Augustus was seen as both a military leader as well as a religious leader. In
my opinion they were both very important in their time because Alexander for being able to
conquer lands all the way to Asia and Augustus for being the first emperor and having a nearly
fifty years of peace (Pax Romana). But if I had to choose who was more important I would choose
Augustus Caesar.
Alexander the Great was the King of Macedonia. He is considered one of the greatest military
geniuses of all times. He inspired later conquerors such as Hannibal the Carthaginian, the Romans
Pompey, Caesar, and Napoleon. Alexander was born in 356 B.C. in Pella, the ancient capital of
Macedonia. He was the son of Phillip II, King of Macedonia, and Olympia s, the princess of
neighboring Epirus. Olympias told Alexander that

Analysis Of The Kingdom Of Heaven
ANALYSIS OF THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN Lucas Castelo Branco HIST 2023 10/18/2017
The Kingdom of Heaven is an epic film directed and produced by Ridley Scott, and written by
William Monahan, filmed in Morocco. The story of the Kingdom of Heaven is set during the
Crusades of the 12th century, and is basically about the life of Balian, a French blacksmith, who
defends the Kingdom of Jerusalem against the Muslims and reclaims the city from the Christians.
In this story, I could travel back in time to experience life during the era of the Crusades and learn
more about the perspective of duty between the Christians and Muslims. To better understand the
Kingdom of Heaven, it is important to know what the Crusades were. The... Show more content on

Instead, the Crusades seek to reclaim what was originally theirs, no matter the cost. The
Crusades were a failure in their goal of conquering the Holy Land for Christians. They cost a lot
to the European nobility and resulted in thousands of deaths. Nevertheless, these expeditions
influenced great transformations in the medieval world. They have weakened feudal
aristocracy, strengthened royal power, and made possible the expansion of the market. Eastern
civilization contributed much to European cultural enrichment, promoting intellectual
development. Never again was Jerusalem dominated by Christians, but the movements on the
way to the Holy Land expanded relationships with the known world at the time. The first hour of
Kingdom of Heaven is decisive for the rest of the film. It is in these moments that we will meet
Balian, a blacksmith who is devastated after he lost his wife who had committed suicide. It is
important to say that suicide was considered to be an irredeemable sin, for example, the church
believed suicide was a road to hell. Balian has no prospects in life when he receives a visit from
Baron Godfrey of Ibelin. He introduces himself as Balian s father and invites him to become a
knight and defend Jerusalem, ruled by King Baldwin IV, who is a leper hidden behind a mask of
iron. Godfrey knows the difficult moment that Balian is going through, so he introduces him to
Jerusalem (presented in the film as the new world where love exists instead of hate, a

Boston Law Enforcement
America s first taste of Law Enforcement emerged in Boston hundreds of years ago, where as
early as the 1600s they appointed a watch group . This group consisted of those who volunteered
their time, six watchmen , and a constable (nleomf.org). This early policing system didn t have
nearly as many duties and responsibilities as our current policeforces do in America. Many of the
things they were responsible for included responding to fires, capturing those who did not follow
the law, and to help maintain order within their towns (nleomf.org). The constables had slightly
different tasks and were the people who were responsible to make sure witness /suspects
attended court when they were required to (nleomf.org). Some constables were even responsible
for surveying land, and supervising the watchmen (Potter, 2013). Things we don t consider
offenses in our current society and may even find a little comical today, like working on Sundays
or swearing while in public were considered offenses (nleomf.org). In less populated areas there
was usually one Sheriff who was responsible for enforcing the law in their area. The sheriff was
appointed by the governor, and had similar tasks to the watchmen and... Show more content on

With cities rapidly growing in the early 1700s the duties of the night watch began rapidly growing.
With a growing number of sailors entering towns there was an increase in the number of taverns
built and entertainment for people passing through, which contributed to misconduct (nleomf.org).
Due to this growing number of responsibilities, the number of people volunteering for night watch
was rapidly declining (nleomf.org). As a response to the decline of night watch volunteers, some
cities instituted a system where they would compensate those who volunteered for night watch, in
attempt to raise interest in other volunteers

The Epistolary Form Of Writing
The epistle in its most basic form is simply a letter, with the epistolary form in the Eighteenth
Century being a published letter often from one writer to another. This mode of writing was
extremely popular in the Eighteenth Century, taking on different contexts for different purposes.
An epistle can be a complex genre of writing. The Epistle can be a collection of poems, a satirical
essay, a response to an author s works or a raging sparring of words. Although quite constraining in
format, an epistle addressed to someone, be it explicit or not can capture the minds of many.
The epistle is notably an ancient form of writing, originating in Egypt as early as 1292 BC.
However, the scholars of Ancient Greece and Rome made the formulae of... Show more content on

Horace s work does indeed showcase his view of literary culture of that time, highlighting the
change that is occurring and setting rules and boundaries of writing poetry.
From Ancient Greece to Eighteenth Century England the epistle s importance still remains. With
the Ancients vs Moderns argument being in full effect, this added leverage to the use of the epistle
in satire, reproducing the epistolary form as Greats before them had also used. The difference
between Modern thinkers were in stark contrast to the Neo Classical thinkers of the time. The Neo
Classical Aesthetic embodied a group of attitudes towards art and human existence. That of order,
logic, restraint, accuracy, decorum and correctness was favoured over the Renaissance thinkers that
believed imagination, invention, experimentation and mysticism was more important to feature in
Literature. The Augustan Age in which Pope, being a central poetic figure at that time had the most
famous and well recognised modern epistles written both by him and also aimed at him.
Criticism was increasingly popular in the 18th Century, with enjoyment coming from both the
original text and the opinions and responses to the text by others. Of course, Pope perceived some
criticism as incorrect and a personal attack on his own being rather than input on his actual body of
work. These attacks, however, motivate Alexander Popefurther, giving him more material

Coma Berenices is an unusual constellation with an even more unusual story to accompany it.
Most other constellations detail important myths, stories and legends from different cultures,
This one is in the sky because someone liked long hair enough to steal it from a temple. it was
first documented officially as a separate constellation in 1536. Before this, the stars in Coma
Berenices had been considered part of Leo, the tail. There were four queen Bernice s in Egypt,

The old man was lamenting to his son the fact that he had lost all his hair, which, in the days of
his youth, had been the envy of all the other young men. (And some women, although he was not
aware of that). The son, who had heard the story many times before, had turned his attention to
the night sky. As his father was going on and on about the color his hair had been, (a beautiful
golden blond), the son had an idea. Father he said, pointing up to the sky, do you see that cluster
of stars up there, just beyond the lion? The father studied the sky for a moment, then nodded.
The son continued, Does it not look like your hair did, in the days of your youth? The father
studied the sky again for a minute or two then nodded again. Well, the son continued, if the sky
shows your hair then you will not need to describe it any more, as it is forever immortalized in
the sky, your gift to humanity. The father turned to his son with tears in his eyes, and gave the lad
a giant hug, thanking him for giving him his hair back. There on the road, the father and son had a
tearful celebration of their own, albeit for different reasons. Unbeknownst to them, a traveling
minstrel had heard the entire exchange, and had collapsed from laughter. The minstrel waisted no

Well not to worry. The Aquarium and Leonardo are here. They both have very amazing things in

In the fife years prior 1997 Airborne Express has grown faster than its two bigger rivals, giving it
about 16% of domestic express mail market share in 1997. Airborne has achieved this by a couple
of measures that allowed it to keep its costs down and guaranteed Airborne Express success in its
niche.
One of the key decisions of Airborne Express was to target regularly shipping business customers
and purposely passing over residential deliveries and infrequent shippers. Ray Berry, vice

different personalities that live in Kevin one form body. First off, the film s entire premise and the

follow similar routines of modern day film storytelling. Also, it has a sense of fun as the film
essentially knows how to express these different identities and has fun playing around with them.
Most of all, James Mcavoy is

  • 2. Member of the Wedding by Carson Mccullers Without connection to others there is no me Throughout our lives, everyone that we share bonds with and interact with on a regular basis, either forms or has some sort of influence on our identity. Consequently, the majority of us naturally find ourselves striving to fit in with these people, especially during the tough transition from childhood to adulthood. It is this part of the human condition that makes us feel as though we must forge ties with something outside of ourselves in order to establish a strong sense of existence and a clear understanding of who we are. Although most individuals are able to make these connections with others naturally, others who stray from the social norm might not be so fortunate, but rather than ... But still, she didn t let anyone s disapproval of her identity deter her, and continued to carry the burden of being alienated in order to remain true to herself. By expressing her homosexuality with self assurance, others were eventually forced to accept Ruby for who she was, and she has since gone on to be extremely successful in life, having been selected to act in a number of films including the Australian comedy Suite for Fleur , designing her own fashion range, and much more. In 2008 and 2009, she was also chosen as one of the 25 Most Influential Gay and Lesbian Australians by Same Same , an Australian online gay and lesbian community. This indicates that true existence can only be found when our decisions and actions are truly our own; when we stand alone and free of connections, without social influence. Considering a different perspective, it can be argued that both sides of the argument are true to a certain extent, in that we are able to possess a sense of existence whilst devoid of most connections, but there are some affiliations such as the bonds we share with our family that we cannot live without. A sense of acceptance from our familial ties and intimate relationships with others shape who we are. These connections ideally provide love, protection, security and the opportunity to discover our values, attitudes, and beliefs that help to define us from the time of our birth. • 3. Summary Of The March Of Washington Speech In the speech that took place during the March of Washington, the speaker John Lewis argues in favor of African American rights. Lewis purpose when delivering the speech was to make people aware of the difficulties that African Americans are going through at that time as well as to encourage them to fight for their rights that they deserve. Lewis maintains a serious and agitated tone that helps persuade the audience into realizing the hardships that African Americans must go through on a daily basis because they do not have rights and uses a series of rhetorical strategies that help strengthen his point. John Lewis represented the people that were prohibited to have their rights, and when giving the speech, he hopes to create a difference not only in the world but also within the people themselves. John Lewis begins his remarks by revealing his attitude that civil rights leaders should not congratulate themselves yet and that there is still a long road before African Americans have true freedom. To immediately complicate the notion of being satisfied with the progress of the civil rights movement that other speakers proclaimed, he announces, We march today for jobs and freedom, but we have nothing to be proud of (para 1). The essence of Lewis argument is that the leaders of the civil rights movement are marching for workplace fairness and equality for African Americans, but they should not stop and congratulate themselves. Significantly, this opening statement reveals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Summary Of I Am My Dad Come here my children let your grandma tell you a story, a true story that had happen to your grandpa and I. This story takes place in 2015 when your grandpa was 17 and I was 16. We were so young then. You may say you want to be older but when you turn my age you re going to wish time slowed down. Gosh those were such happy days if only I could go back in time to when your grandpa and I were traveling the world together but that s a different story for another time. Let s get back to the story now where did I leave off at ... oh I remember now. It was your aunt Erin, grandpa, your grandpa s friend Corey, and myself of course. We just got invited to the biggest Halloween party ever. The party was at an old abandon hospital that no one had been to in many years. Everyone at the school had heard stories about why it was abandon but no one believed in them. The story I heard was that the hospital was built over a cemetery which happens to open on Friday the 13th but they closed it down a year later because a demon would attack anyone that walk through those hospital doors. I guess it was a good thing they were at the hospital. *I laugh.* Your grandpa and I were face timing each other on our iPhone 6 (those are what we had before all the new gadgets came out) we were going over what costumes to wear so we could win the costume contest. Your aunt Erin was Super Girl, Corey was Batman, your grandpa was Superman, and I was Super Woman. There was only one day until the Halloween ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Exploration Of Group Work In this research paper the exploration of group work will be examined. This paper will take an in depth look into the process of formulating groups by creating a social concern that can be addressed in a group setting. This process of constructing a group will be exposed through planning which is a critical step to group success like: defining a purpose, determining if group is open or closed, size of the group, space, meeting times, and obtaining participants. Throughout this paper understanding phases of groups like beginning, working, termination, and roles of the leader play a vital role in formulating groups. With the aid of evidence based practice this paper will show how all elements of groups when intertwine with one another, and implemented at appropriate time help groups to reach their maximum potentials. In this paper the population and social concern to be addressed in a group setting will be Veterans Diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes . The American Diabetes Associationdefines type 2 diabetes as a problem with your body that causes blood glucose (sugar) levels to rise higher than normal, and considered the most common form of Diabetes. • 7. Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Essay The motivating principle behind IDEA was to ensure an equal opportunity for all children. In order to affect that idea, we have to find a balance between all children s needs. In 1975, came the passage of the federal Education of All Handicapped Children Act, now revised as the Individuals with Disabilities EducationAct (IDEA, 1990). For handicapped children, the law was long overdue. The designers of IDEA saw themselves as progressive reformers, designing fairer, more responsive schools. The lawmakers were attempting to rectify two historical injustices. First, public schools were not serving many of the country s eight million handicapped children, with as many as one million children not attending school. Second, a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The IEP would be reviewed and revised annually, and parents would have grievance procedures to challenge decisions. The law required educators to place handicapped students in general classrooms whenever possible or in the least restrictive environment. The mandate to provide a free and appropriate education for children regardless of disability and to provide that education in a regular classroom whenever possible, effectively striped educators of the authority to transfer or suspend any student classified as needing special education. This would not have been an issue if it only included the wheelchair bound or blind students who we typically think of as disabled. However, over the past few decades, the increasing number of children classified under the disability categories of Learning Disabled and Emotional Disturbance has shot up. Not so long ago, these children were called unmanageable or antisocial. Now, part of the definition of emotional disturbance is an inability to build or maintain satisfactory interpersonal relationships with peers and teachers. Often teachers and principals will refer children with an emotional disturbance to special education classrooms perhaps because they see the mandated state and federal money, at the very least, as a promise to help the neglected and damaged population of children beset with social and emotional problems. • 8. Hollins University Personal Statement Sample I would like to apply for Summer Statistical Research Experience Undergraduate Program. I heard about this internship from my Math professor, Dr. Julie Clark. I am an international student from Nepal. I intend to major in Mathematics Statistics, and Environmental Science at Hollins University. I have a comprehensive background in Mathematics and Science, my emphasis is researchand data collection. I enjoy this concentration because I find great satisfaction being part of the problem solving process. Through a previous internship in Nepal with Trail Bridge Support Units (TBSU), I was able to work in rural villages and connect with villagers. Our goal was to construct sustainable trail bridges that would connect two communities. I assisted with data collection; surveying local people to pinpoint their needs. Since I spoke with villagers directly, I was able to find the middle ground between former data and people s needs making progress in TBSU s goal to carry out bridge construction. Don t worry about that, Ms. McMahon pointed out dismissively. They really need help, she insisted. Whatever you say, Ms. McMahon, Sheamus responded with a shrug. You didn t forget, did you? Punk questioned. It s your birthday. Happy birthday! the class cried joyously. Of course I didn t forget, Sheamus retorted, grinning happily. Just wasn t expecting this, that s all. Well, since we didn t get to jump out and yell surprise , Shawn said, Maybe we could bring out the radio again. He turned and looked hopefully at the teacher. Fine, Ms. McMahon sighed, sounding defeated. You may use the radio. With a collective cheer, the children dragged the radio out of its place in the closet and commenced the party. ***** Some time afterwards, the bell rang for recess and the children scrambled outside into the snow. At Sheamus s request, it was quickly decided that they would have an all out snowball war. Teams were hastily selected and bases speedily built. While it is obvious that a woman who in her own right is racist, chauvinist, and ignorant to the way that the world really works wrote the novel, it has been requested that the class write a paper on the story. Whilst this writer does not agree with this novelor anything that Alice Walkerthinks or feels, obligingly this paper is been written. Amy Tan wrote it this way so that the reader would pity Lean and see Harold as a money grubbing bastard. Rich is the second example of a weak male character in The Joy Luck Club, and his main flaw is gross ignorance. His new live in girlfriend is Waverly. An entire section of the book is dedicated to the first meeting between Rich and Waverly s mother and father. During the entire section, Rich makes one blunder after another. He brought a lovely bottle of red wine for dinner, not knowing that the Chinese do not stereotypically drink wine. He fumbled with the chopsticks, took huge portions and refused seconds, and regrettably added a hefty amount of soy sauce to all of the food. In possibly the biggest blunder of the night not only did he call Lindo and Tin Jong by their first names but he butchered them calling them Linda and Tim. • 13. Indentured Servants During Early Colonial Times Indentured Servants Indentured servants were used in early colonial times as a means of passage to the new world. The cash crops of the early settlers were exhaustingly labor intensive. In fact, U.S. History (2015) indicated that the growth of tobacco, rice, and indigo and the plantation economy created a tremendous need for labor in Southern English America (p. 1). The technology did not exist at the time for machinery that clears the ground and works the land as it does today. The work had to be done by hand; from clearing and prepping the fields to harvesting the crops, it was all manual labor for which the new land did not have ample supply of. Coming to the New World Life in England during the early 1600 s was harsh for a multitude of the poor. The country was just coming out of the Thirties Year s War with a flood of citizens and laborers displaced. In fact, PBS (2015) indicated that the timing of the Virginia colony was ideal. The Thirty Year s War had left Europe s economy depressed, and many skilled and unskilled laborers were without work. A new life in the New World offered a glimmer of hope; this explains how one half to two thirds of the immigrants who came to the American colonies arrived as indentured servants (para. 3). Anti heroes are the twisted versions of wholesome protagonists; protagonists have pure ideals and motives, while an anti hero s end motives usually justify the morally grey means that he or she achieved them by. The readers of such novels usually root for the seemingly villainous protagonist, this anti hero . The anti heros in Truman Capotes In Cold Bloodare Perry Smith and Dick Hickock. These two men are reported to be cold blooded killers in this nonfiction novel, and yet many readers root for these anti heroes, thanks to Capotes retelling of events. Truman Capote attempts to humanizes these killers by sharing their pasts with the reader, which trigger sympathy or hatred, depending on how Capote portrays them In order to humanize the killers, Capote gives background stories on their lives, which trigger sympathy in Perry s case. Perry first reads a letter from his father to the Kansas State Parole Board, written the first time Perry was held in Lansing, for larceny, theft, and jailbreak. Perry s father writes about how Perry s mother fell to drinking and split the family, and how Perry had to live moving from city to city, hunting and trapping. • 17. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation In Newborns Newborn Resuscitation Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a skill that almost anyone can learn to perform. It can be lifesaving when performed on a newborn whose breathing or heartbeat has stopped. When the heart stops beating, the flow of blood to the brain and other vital organs also stops. This can cause brain damage or death if not treated within minutes. CPR for newborns is different from CPR for children or adults. The steps of CPR for newborns are based on an A B C sequence: airway, breathing, and circulation. Performing CPR on a newborn may be necessary when: The newborn has been born early (prematurely). Designing A Home Program Activities 1)Tyler recommends simple, naturalistic activities as part of a home program, focused on auditory stimulation through modeling and not requiring productions, at least not until the child has achieved correct production in single words in treatment. a)Why would it be important for the home program activities to be simple and naturalistic? Through this type of program, the child is in a more natural environment with activities that are more familiar to him/her. Modeling the target sounds and providing auditory stimulation while going through the routines of home life (e.g., getting dressed, reading a book, and going to bed) gives the child functional opportunities in learning and acquiring speech. Furthermore, these simple routine are repeated daily, meaning the child has that much more exposure to the target sounds. b)Why would you not want the client to be practicing productions at home until they can produce single words correctly in therapy sessions? The client would already be able to produce the sound in single words, which makes it easier for carryover in the home. The parents would be better capable of modeling and stimulating those sounds in words through easy activities (e.g., picture cards). c)Come up with several home activities that you could recommend to parents that would fit these criteria. A utopia is an imagined state of things in which everything is perfect. If asked to imagine what one s perfect world would be like, everyone s would be different. Though the definition of a utopia is to an extent up for interpretation, I will provide a clear set of principles and characteristics of one for the sake of this paper. By doing this I am able to compare it to the book without discrepancy. In utopias,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Time Machine clearly favors a communistic society, as Wells himself was a fan of Karl Marx. The novel successfully shows that capitalism can logistically separate classes to the point where it is morally unfair. Wells is also supported by current events. In America, our middle class is getting smaller while our lower class gets bigger. The stratification of classes and money in our capitalistic economy is ridiculously uneven. Marxist communism on the other hand would place primary ownership of the means of production in the hands of the state, creating a classless society. My second Question is what would the issues be in a communistic society? In other words, what would 802, 701 AD look like if 1895 Britain was communistic instead of ... However, all three wanted to help, whether it was themselves or others. Farah Ahmedi was a girl who wanted to cross the border into Pakistan from Afghanistan to start a new, happier, more peaceful life after losing all of her family except her mother to war. Thoreau s paper pushes for the people to begin following the will of their conscience rather than blindly and foolishly follow the unjust idea of majority rule . Throughout the paper Thoreau makes a point of stating that majority rule is simply the will of the upper class being forced into action over the rights and wills of the poorer minority. This paper openly criticizes and condemns many institutions and policies of the American National government. Because Thoreau wrote this paper during the Mexican American War he uses in it, in addition to slavery, to reinforce his statement of all political decisions merely being the wills of the strongest citizens put into action. For the purpose of this assignment the paper has been divided into three significant parts, Thoreau did not have these divisions. In the third part of Thoreau s paper he begins writing about his own acts of civil disobedience. He moves from his discussion of his night in jail, talked about in the second part, to his various reasons for accepting or refusing to pay certain taxes. From here Thoreau continues to statethat he is not sure how long he can maintain his resolve to deny the government, stating that he is in constant search of a reason to follow its laws. Comparision of Alexander the Great and Augustus Ceasar Alexander the Great and Augustus are two different individuals from two different time periods and they are both famous for their accomplishments. Alexander is one of the greatest military geniuses who by the age of 33 had conquered most of Asia. Alexander thought of himself as the son of Greek god Zeus. Augustuswas the first emperor of Rome who brought peace and stability to the Roman Empire. He was the grandson of the sister of Julius Caesar. His original name was Caius Octavius, but when he was adopted by the Julian gens (44 B.C.) he became Caius Julius Caesar Octavianus (Octavian). He was named (given the title) Augustus later when he became the First Emperor or Rome by the senate. Augustus was seen as both a military leader as well as a religious leader. In my opinion they were both very important in their time because Alexander for being able to conquer lands all the way to Asia and Augustus for being the first emperor and having a nearly fifty years of peace (Pax Romana). But if I had to choose who was more important I would choose Augustus Caesar. Alexander the Great was the King of Macedonia. He is considered one of the greatest military geniuses of all times. He inspired later conquerors such as Hannibal the Carthaginian, the Romans Pompey, Caesar, and Napoleon. Alexander was born in 356 B.C. in Pella, the ancient capital of Macedonia. Instead, the Crusades seek to reclaim what was originally theirs, no matter the cost. The Crusades were a failure in their goal of conquering the Holy Land for Christians. They cost a lot to the European nobility and resulted in thousands of deaths. Nevertheless, these expeditions influenced great transformations in the medieval world. They have weakened feudal aristocracy, strengthened royal power, and made possible the expansion of the market. Eastern civilization contributed much to European cultural enrichment, promoting intellectual development. Never again was Jerusalem dominated by Christians, but the movements on the way to the Holy Land expanded relationships with the known world at the time. The first hour of Kingdom of Heaven is decisive for the rest of the film. It is in these moments that we will meet Balian, a blacksmith who is devastated after he lost his wife who had committed suicide. It is important to say that suicide was considered to be an irredeemable sin, for example, the church believed suicide was a road to hell.
