This document describes an integrated farming system approach adopted by farmer Pramod Kumar Sahu. The integrated farming system includes dairy farming with 24 milch cows, poultry farming involving quail hatcheries and duckeries, pisciculture of fish species like rohu and catla, fodder cultivation, vermicomposting, and organic vegetable and fruit cultivation. Pramod earns a monthly profit of approximately Rs. 1.5 lakhs through diversified income sources like milk sales, quail and fish sales, lease income, and organic produce. The integrated approach has provided Pramod with a stable income and employment while sustainably utilizing resources through waste recycling.

1. INTEGRATED FARMING SYSTEM
INTRODUCTION ;
At present, the farmers concentrate mainly on crop production which is subjected to a high
degree of uncertainty in income and employment to the farmers.
Integration of various agricultural enterprises viz., cropping, animal husbandry, fishery,
forestry etc. have great potentialities in the agricultural economy. These enterprises not
only supplement the income of the farmers but also help in increasing the family labour
employment .

2. 1.The integrated farming system approach introduces a change in the farming
techniques for maximum production in the cropping pattern and takes care of
optimal utilization of resources.
2.The farm wastes are better recycled for productive purposes in the integrated
system.
3.A judicious mix of agricultural enterprises like dairy, poultry, piggery, fishery,
sericulture etc. suited to the given agro-climatic conditions and socio-economic
status of the farmers would bring prosperity in the farming.
It is a resource management strategy to achieve economic and sustained
production to meet diverse requirement of farm household while preserving
resource base and maintaining a high level of environmental quality.

and silkworm cocoons from the linked activities in integrated farming
•Inclusion of biogas & agro forestry in integrated farming system will solve the prognosticated
energy crisis

availability of adequate nutritious fodder for animal components like milch cow, goat / sheep,
pig and rabbit

without affecting the natural forest

7. SUCCESS STORY ;
Integrated farming has proved a boon for 64-year-old farmer Pramod Sahu of
Nunia Jampali village under Sadar block in the district. Instead of
concentrating on paddy cultivation, he has diversified to poultry farming of
country bird Japanese quails, dairy, pisciculture and organic farming in five
acres of land.

8. In 1977 he got a loan of 3lakh loan from bank & started diary farming at
Sambalpur but he faced many difficulties & that rendered a ample loss .
In 1980 he came back to his village with some rejected cows to his village. Then
he brought 2 tractors for farming .
Gradually he got profit from his farming & then he introduced different allied
agricultural enterprises to his farm & has became a very successful farmer till
date .

9. POULTRY FARMING ; -
In 2015, Pramod started quail farming with 600 chicks. At present, he sells
about 10,000 quails per month and earns profit of about 50,000 per month
with an investment of around `20,000 per month.
Pramod said a Japanese quail gets ready for sale in 35 days after attaining
the weight of 250 grams and they are easily sold at the rate of `50 per piece.
He faces no difficulty in selling the quails as its meat is considered to be
tasty, nutritious and healthier than the meat of other domesticated birds.
Their death rate is also lower than other domesticated fowls and they are
generally not easily infected by diseases, he added.

13. This apart, he is into pisciculture
for the last three years and is
raising fishes like rohu, catla and
grass carp in a tank spread over 40
decimal of land. Recently, he has
started rearing catfish in a

He cultivate fodder crop i.e hybrid napier bajra var CO – 3 in 2acres of land.
The green fodder is used to feed the cattles in the farm .

17. . Apart from poultry, dairy farming is another major source of income
for Pramod babu. At present, he owns 24 milch cows who produce
around 120 litres of milk per day.
. He earns profit of around `50,000 every month from the dairy after
deducting monthly expenditure of around 80,000.

22. Moreover, Pramod owns vermi-compost pits and grows
vegetables, including cabbage and brinjal & fruits over
half an acre of land in organic way.
A Matriculate, Pramod babu said altogether he earns a
profit of about `one lakh fifty thousand per month from
his integrated farming.
Earlier, he was solely concentrating on paddy
cultivation but it was not worth considering the amount
of toil one has to put. This led him to give his 14 acres
of land on lease for paddy cultivation and he earns
about three lakh annually from it.
