• Fore-legs - Prothorax, Mid-legs - Mesothorax,Hind legs –
Metathorax
• Each leg has six major components
• Coxa, Trochanter, Femur (femora), Tibia (tibiae), Tarsus
(tarsi), Pretarsus
• The tarsus appears to be divided into one to five
“Pseudosegments" called Tarsomeres.

• Pretarsus - the terminal segment of the tarsus and
any other structures attached to it, including:
1. Ungues -- a pair of claws
2. Arolium -- a lobe or adhesive pad between the
claws
3. Empodium -- a large bristle (or lobe) between the
claws
4. Pulvilli -- a pair of adhesive pads
