Insect legs are divided into three pairs - forelegs on the prothorax, midlegs on the mesothorax, and hind legs on the metathorax. Each leg contains six main components: the coxa, trochanter, femur, tibia, tarsus, and pretarsus. The tarsus can be divided into one to five pseudosegments called tarsomeres. The pretarsus is the terminal segment and can contain claws, an arolium, an empodium, and pulvilli.
