Essay about Homophobic, I Think Not
We all know who Eminem is whether it be because we listen to his music or because of the huge
controversy that seems to fallow his next billboard hit. Ever sense the release of his first album The
Slim Shady LP in 1999 or the more predominate album under fire The Marshall Mathers LP released
in 2000, and Encore in 2005 Eminem has been fighting off critics and gay and lesbian right activists
because of his lyrical content. People say that he is a homophobic gay basher with no respect for
women. Encore is another brilliant work from eninem but the album that started the most controversy
was The Marshall Mather LP. Eminem gave his foes plenty of ammunition. In Criminal, he declared:

A lot of my sh*t was so blatantly comic, how could you take it seriously? With The Marshall Mathers
LP I brought it to a different level: If this is how you perceive me, then this is what I m gonna be.
(VH1)
Also coming with the release of The Marshall Mathers LP in 2000, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance
Against Defamation labeled his lyrics offensive and launched a furious campaign against Interscope
Records. There is no question that he has benefited from the fierce debate over the gay content of his
lyrics. If you want a good estement of how much it helped him count every picket sign, T.V. show bad
mouthing him, and parent telling their kid they cant listen to him; now multiply it by 10,000 because
that how many more albums they just sold for him. I could understand if I just said all those things and
just left it at that, but I was using irony and keeping my tongue in my cheek. Anybody with half a
brain should be able to listen to it and understand that I m pushing your buttons. (vh1) The biggest
blow to critics and protesters came at the 2005 Grammies. Where Eminem performed his moving duet
with Elton John; and the movie 8 Mile which his character heroically confronts a gay basher.
In 2005 Elton John wrote Eminem has the balls to say what he feels and to make offensive things
funny. That s very necessary today in America, with people being muzzled and irony becoming a lost
art. Artists like Eminem who use their free speech to get a point across are

Art Of Evoking Nature s Majesty Within A Tight Space
A Japanese garden embodies the art of evoking nature s majesty within a tight space. Throughout 5th
to 8th century Japanese gardens sprung up for ritual purposes. From the late 8th to the 12th century the
Japanese gardens started to become more of aesthetic and social piece. These Japanese gardens hold
many styles and elements. What make a Japanese garden so special are the natural materials, evoking
the beauty of nature on a smaller scale. They re three types of Japanese gardens the most common of
the garden design possesses a stream or pond lying in the center surrounded mounds of earth, both
serving as a comparison an ocean to a mountain. The second is a dry garden also known as Zen
gardens, having no water; instead the water is characterized by the arrangements of rocks and gravel.
The third style is a tea garden developed as an extension of the tea ceremony. The tea garden gives an
illusion of a deep forest. Japanese hold three fundamental elements water, stone, and trees, displaying
the natural landscape of Japan.
Through the 5th to 8th century Japanese there have been a few archeological sites for Japanese
gardens, many of the gardens are problematic to date. During the late Nara period (8th century) they re
timeworn texts that mention some significance for Japanese gardens. There also important religious
influences on the Japanese gardens, given the Shinto beliefs. Many early Japanese gardens contain
Shinto admiration; the excessive rocks, antique trees, lakes,

Behavioral Enrichment And Monitoring For Animal Welfare
Behavioral Enrichment and Monitoring as Means to Improve Animal Welfare
Although keepers have provided forms of enrichment to zoo animals for years, interest in
scientifically raising captive animals standard of living has grown (Ben Ari, 2001). Behavioral
engineering, also known as behavioral, animal, or environmental enrichment, is a type of husbandry
technique used to better the physiological and psychological states of animals, conserve species by
raising the rate of reproduction, diversify suitable behaviors, reduce stress and predatory and
aggressive acts, increase learning ability, and/or provide animals with exercise, entertainment, or some
sense of control in their environment (Ben Ari, 2001). Enrichment can take many forms, such as the
addition of novelty objects to an animal s environment, renovating exhibits, and training (Ben Ari,
2001). However, Ben Ari (2001) details the emergence of a standardized scientific method of
enrichment, in which enrichment strategies are planned, executed, observed, documented, assessed,
and then modified. Nevertheless, intensive studies are not feasible for all zoos (Ben Ari, 2001). For
example, only 2 percent of enrichment at Disney s Animal Kingdom is evaluated through 12 weeklong
projects (Ben Ari, 2001). Although not widespread yet, these types of strategies take animals mental
states and behaviors exhibited in the wild into account (Ben Ari, 2001). Because biologists have not
documented every species wild behavior,

Cash In The Trash Bin
Cash in The Trash Bin
My ecology action project will be on recycling water bottles and soda cans and cash them in for
money to give to my school and church. My mom and step dad will be driving me around town to pick
up cans and water bottles. Numerous stores will also be asked if we will be able to put recycling bins
in their stores. All of the bottles and cans will be put together and cashed in every one to two weeks
depending on the amount. By doing this action the environment will be a little less messy and money
will be given back to our community. This project will be done a little every day.
This ecology project was chosen because of doing this it is going to help my community and doing a
little every day. Also, by doing this, we will learn actually how much trash is in our community. My ...

Lewis Carroll Research Paper
Lewis Carroll is the name most perceive as the author of the Alice stories. However, lesser known is
the other Lewis Carroll, a man by the name of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson; a genius mathematician
and photographer, a clever man of logic, and a religious student of Christ Church College in Oxford.
Born on January 27, 1832 in Daresbury, England, Dodgson in his sincerity was an individual of
copious creativity and ingenuity which occupied his childhood years. Growing up in the isolated
countryside village, Charles invented games to entertain his other nine siblings as well as his parents

During this time, Carroll occupied himself by tutoring private pupils and spent almost four hours per
day lecturing his classes. He also begin his contributions to The Comic Times, later called The Train,
which displayed several of his poems. It was during this contribution that he felt the need to create a
nom de plum, which became the widely known name of Lewis Carroll. At the same time, Carroll
began his relationship with the Liddell girls, one of them by the name Alice who would become the
basis for the renowned main character of the Alice in Wonderland stories. It was Carroll s particular
fondness with young girls that created much controversy even while he lived. In 1856, after Alice
Liddell begged Carroll to write the Alice stories down, Carroll decided to take the story to the
publisher Macmillan who immediately enjoyed the story and published it. In the same year, Carroll
also took up the art of photography, many of his subjects being young girls in which he expressed a
beauty, a state of physical perfection found in the human form as it existed. This new hobby, along
with his passion for theatre and the rebelliousness his works contained against the strict Victorian era,
played a part in the confrontation and questioning of morality to the author. Lewis, not fond of
publicity, avoided the public and the questions that came at him. Likewise, As Carroll s fame grew,
juxtapose to it was a growing mythology about the author which soon became a false reality rather
than myth. During December of 1897, Lewis Carroll, as he usually would do, took a trip down to
Guildford to spend Christmas with his sisters. However, a sudden attack of influenze prevented his
travels back to the north. A slight horseness turned into the next morning a serious case of illness, and

Bodily Products Should Not Be Marketable
Organs play an important role in the functioning of the human body. We are born with them, and they
work throughout our lives to keep us alive and well. Some people aren t so lucky and may have an
organ dysfunction or health issue that requires them to get an organ transplant. In this case, a donor
whose tissue cells match the recipient s must be the one to donate. However, this process could take
from a few days to a few years since there are many people on the waiting list. This provokes the
controversial topic of legalization of compensation for organs. Bodily products should not be
marketable because it is immoral and possibly even dangerous. Organs were given to us when we
came to life. We should give them to others as they were given to us. Why should anyone have to pay
for something that can be given freely? If an organ is available, it should go to the person who needs it
the most. No one should have to worry about the cost of it. Donating an organ can save a life. If
someone cannot afford to pay for an organ, are we supposed to just let him or her die? That is not
morally right. While the government plans to save more lives by legalizing payment for organs, it won
t necessarily work out that way. According to the National Kidney Foundation, 92% of families who
turned down donating organs of their deceased loved ones said they still would not have donated even
if they received payment in return (237). This goes to show that even with money involved, most

Black Holes Essay
Black Holes
Every day we look into the night sky, wondering and dreaming what lies beyond our galaxy. Within
our galaxy alone, there are millions upon millions of stars. This may be why it interests us to learn
about all that we cannot see. Humans have known the existence of stars since they have had eyes, and
see them as white glowing specks in the sky. The mystery lies beyond the white glowing specks we
see but, in the things we cannot see in the night sky such as black holes.
Before I begin to speak about black holes, I will have to explain what the white glowing specks in the
sky are. Without a star a black hole could not be formed. In the beginning of a star life a hydrogen is a
major part of its development. Stars ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the remnant of this giant exploding star is larger than three solar masses or ten times our sun, it
becomes a black hole. A black hole is one of the last option that a star may take.
In the 18th century scientists started to research the after effects of a large star such as a supernova
exploding. What happens of the gas and dust left behind after such a big star died? The idea of mass
concentration so dense that even light would be trapped goes all the way back to Laplace in the 18th
century. The first scientist to really take an in depth look at black holes and the collapsing of stars, was
a professor, Robert Oppenheimer and his student Hartland Snyder, in the early nineteen hundreds.
They came up with the basics of a black hole from Einstein s theory of relativity that if the speed of
light was the most speed over any massive object, then nothing could escape a black hole once in its
grasp. These researchers showed that when a sufficiently massive star runs out of fuel, it is unable to
support itself against its own gravitational pull, and it should collapse into a black hole. In general
theory of relativity, gravity is a manifest of the curvature of the space time.
Einstein general theory of relativity showed that light, though it does not react to gravity in the same
way as ordinary matter, is nevertheless affected by strong gravitational fields. In fact, light itself
cannot escape from inside this

Atypical Griffin Family Analysis
The Question of Gender and Sexuality in Atypical Griffin Family Nowadays there are numerous

There is a common theme in the sitcom about one s disabilities. For instance, jokes about Peter s best
friend Joe, who is confined to a wheelchair. Other example of offensive humor in Family Guy is about
old people. The elderly are underrepresented in the media (Potter 2008) and when they are represented
they are often portrayed as stereotypes: being in poor health, senile, constipated, and incontinent.
(Deets 1993) The neighbor of Griffin family, an elderly man with the dog without behind legs, is
depicted as very slow individual; moreover, as shown in the sitcom, he is attracted by teenage boys
and secretly loves Chris Griffin. His attraction to Chris indicates on other popular theme for jokes in
Family Guy the gay community. For instance, there is one of the most debatable episodes of the
sitcom where Peter is injected with the gay gene . Moreover, there are several episodes which point
out on the youngest son s (Stewie) homosexuality. As a result, the sitcom contains different themes
that are considerable for watching among adult aged audience. Basically, Family Guy s key
demographic is young, white males; perhaps, the show is mostly popular among them because Family
Guy contains the least part of offensive humor about this

areas and this was anticipated to increase to 48 percent by 2016. A large portion of the population
migrating to urban areas is youth, frustrated with low productivity and incomes in rural agriculture

marginalization has been exacerbated by negative perceptions of youth after the war, given their

To what extent did the exclusion of the United States affect the legitimacy of the League of Nations?
Plan of investigation:
In the 1920s in France the League of Nations was created in order to end the first world war and
establish relations between several countries. However, big countries were excluded such as Germany
and the United States. ³ Due to the fact that the United States was far more economically developed
and adapted than other countries of that time, there was a question about the ways in which the League
of Nations would succeed without it. The focus of this research paper is between 1920 and 1930. To
answer the question To what extent did the exclusion of the united states affect the legitimacy of the
league of nations , several websites will be used to give information about the league of nations early
years. Any statements or opinions in those websites will be used to evaluate the legitimacy of the
League of Nations. Historical Journals and books will also be used as a higher level of scholarly
sources. To avoid bias, books written from authors of other countries will be analyzed to understand
different perspectives. Websites will be used to keep electronic information and printed information on
the same level.

The Ready-to-Eat Breakfast Cereal Industry in 1994 (A) -...
Sales of private label cereal grew 50% from 1991 1994 in the Ready to Eat breakfast cereal industry.
Some of the factors that contributed to the entry of private label cereal manufacturers and their
subsequent growth include lower costs related to manufacturing, packaging, marketing, R D compared
to the Big 3 cereal companies, product quality approaching that of branded products, higher margins
for grocers, lower priced products. Some observers blamed higher prices and elaborate expenditure on
coupon printing, distribution, redemption and reimbursement of grocer s handling fee for market share
gains made by private label cereal products. The policy of price up and spend back seemed to hurt the

The Big 3 had high advertising to sales ratios of 10 14%, also deterring entry, because average first
year advertising cost for a new brand was over $20 million. We can conclude that total costs related to

greater margins to grocers and still sell at lower prices. They have a considerable competitive cost
advantage over the new branded products.

King George III And The Quartering Act In 1765

One was an elderly man, another was a man suffering from illness, and finally he saw a dead body
surrounded by mourners. Since he had never seen anything like this before, he asked his charioteer
what these things were. He responded to the Prince that these things were natural and unavoidable,
and happened to everyone. Once again Siddhartha asked his charioteer to take him out into the city;
this time he was to see the last of four images that would change his life forever. The last sight he saw
was a wandering old holy man with no possessions. His head was completely shaved and he was
wearing a yellow robe. Having seen all these things, Buddha not only became aware of the pain and
suffering of humankind, but was also prompted to do something about it. He left his family in search

The Importance Of Imperialism In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of...
It has been argued that humans are mere products of their environment. In the era of imperialism,
artists argued that the nations were breeding grounds for corruption and greed. To illustrate this,
several artists, such as Joseph Conrad, utilized the victimized frontiers to display the injustices that
were happening. Conrad s Heart of Darkness uses the African environment s wildness and symbolic
darkness to demonstrate that imperialism s lack of moral restraints will result in one s environment
exploiting the evils hidden in their heart.
A symbol itself, the Congo River served as a catalyst that carried Marlow s idealistic mindset into the
heart of the dark jungle. In the river, one found that they were bewildered and cut off from everything
[they] had known once because the waterway ran on... into the gloom of overshadowed distances ,
which resulted in moments when one s past came back... in the shape of an unrestful and noisy dream
(Conrad 61). Marlow s prejudiced mindset against the natives originally presented an imperialistic
mindset of saving subhumans, however, his ideas clashed with an enigma of the living past, which
warped all ideas of reality. The Congo river blurred Marlow s reality to present the ultimate point that
imperialistic enlightenment could not compete with the deep rooted cultures of Africa s past. Although
Marlow initially took interest in Africa because of its blank space as the place where the merry dance
of death and trade goes on , he had to

progresses, Sam plays a very important female figure in Charlie s life. She is very patient and
trustworthy with Charlie and assures him that she will always be by his side. In the novel, Charlie
states, Sam put her arm around my shoulder, and she said she knew what I was going through. She
told me I shouldn t worry about it (Chbosky,29). In this situation, Sam is comforting Charlie because
he is going through an emotional breakdown. This is a substantial change because Charlie always
feels isolated, but at this moment, he realizes that Sam cares about him, which makes him feel better.
She is kindly giving him moral support, which is something

Canadas Brain Drain Issue Essay
Canadas Brain Drain Issue What is a brain drain? It is the emigration of highly educated and skilled
Canadians to the United States. Does Canada suffer from a Brain Drain? This is a question that
economists have been trying to answer for a decade now and have conducted different studies
resulting to different conclusions about this issue. There are some economists that believe that yes
Canada is suffering from a brain drain if not now it will be soon, amongst those economists are Don
DeVortez and Samuel Laryea who prepared a study of C.D howe Institute. They claimed that Brain
Drain is real and is costing Canada Tax Payers millions of dollars. Then on the other side of the debate
we have economists like John Helliwell, who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believes in the queen bee theory, that one real talented leader, can create all kinds of enterprise and
wealth said the CEO of a major corporation in Western Canada. If you lose that one person or that
small group of people to places that they would rather be, they re not going to come back and you re
going to lose a tremendous amount of wealth creation He was responding to Helliwell s theory saying
that the flow of migrants from Canada to the United States, whether overall or only among the highly
educated, are less than a quarter as large as those in the 1960 s. The CEO is trying to say that maybe
the flow of migrants are less but we are losing key players and that in the long run it will definitely
hurt our nation. If the talent is moving away from Canada because of better benefits less tax then the
companies will follow the people that drive success and hence the low number of migrants will
eventually add up to millions of dollars of loss, and at this point millions of dollars is definitely a
problem that the government needs to address and fast.
Helliwell argues that over the last 30 years, there has been a steady continuation of the century long

Ethical Issues In Iron Man
In the 2008 movie Iron Man, Tony Stark makes a variety of significant ethical decisions as he goes
through his transformation from selfish, irresponsible billionaire and genius, to slightly less selfish and
slightly less irresponsible billionaire, genius and superhero. One of the earliest of these decisions that
we see is his general irresponsibility about how the weapons that he manufactures are used, and more
importantly, who has access to them. Although one could argue that this isn t a decision that he makes
and instead is just ignorance to the goings on of his company, I would argue that as the owner of a
large weapons manufacturing company, Tony Stark has a responsibility to be aware of what goes on in
his company, at least to some extent, and so he decides the extent to which he will take on this
responsibility. Later in the film, Tony Stark makes another significant ethical decision when he
decides to fly back to the middle east and destroy terrorist s stockpiles of Stark Industries weapons. In
addition to destroying these weapons, Stark also decides to kill a large group of terrorists. In superhero
movies, the writers and directors tend to make it very clear when we are supposed to feel that the hero
is doing the right thing and when he is doing the wrong thing. Consequently, this sequence is
portrayed very heroically with clearly defined good guys and bad guys and no negative consequences.
However, in the real world, this decision would have had a variety of

Fast And The Furious Tokyo Drift Movie
Learning How to Drift
So you ve been wanting to learn how to drift ever since you saw the Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift
movie. Drifting seems so cool right? For those who have no idea what drifting is all about, it is a
driving method that lets you steer around corners in a fun, exciting, and challenging way.
Some street racers and drag racers switch to drifting when they start to get bored. Drifting allows you
to slide around the corners using two techniques: clutch based and brake based.
Drifting Techniques
Clutch based
1. Clutch kick drift Grip the clutch, escalate the rpm and downshift. Then release the clutch to allow
the back wheels to lose its traction.
2. Shift lock drift Downshift the gear, lower down the rpm and release the clutch. This causes the back

Feint drift Steer the car outwards to move the weight to the outer wheels. Then quickly steer back and
once the suspension kicks back, the weight shifts creating a drift.
3. Swaying drift It is similar to a feint drift but starts with a long approach to a turn. Maintain the drift
by steering side to side.
4. Jump drift Steer the rear tire to shift the weight to the outer wheels. This will reduce the traction to
generate a drift.
5. Dynamic drift Turn at a fast speed and release the gas. This will shift the weight to the front wheels
and lessen the traction to create a drift.
6. E brake drift Turn the corner and pull the emergency brake to lock the rear wheels. Steer to produce
a drift.
7. Power over drift Accelerate into the turn to make the back wheels drift. You need a lot of
horsepower to do this.
8. Long slide drift Approach a turn with a long straightway with high speed. Pull the emergency brake
to start the drift.
Remember, getting the right method of braking requires much practice. Over breaking can lead to over
steering which may cause your vehicle to spin uncontrollably. On the other hand, lack of braking will
cause you to understeer. This isn t safe

The Verdimillious Charm is a great multipurpose charm. While it isn t the best self defense charm, it

How Did Japan Dominate East Asia
Japan, located off the coast of East Asia, was a major country that fought during the Second World
War. During this time, Japan had an dictatorship government and had its sights on imperialistic ideas.
On December 7, 1941, Japanese airplanes flew over Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, the United States base of
its navy, where the Pacific fleet and airfields were stationed. Bombs were dropped on the island in
Hawaii, causing mass destruction and high death tolls. With this, isolation and neutrality were not an
option, and the United States became deeply embroiled in World War II after declaring war on Japan
the very next day. Japan attacked Pearl Harbor because their goal was to establish a dominant world
power through military expansion, starting with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Pearl Harbor and the Coming of the Pacific War, the Japanese completed its control in
Manchuria in 1932, then invaded China five years later. In the map created by various sources, the
Japanese empire more than tripled its size after expansion through Manchuria in China. Japan
established Manchuria as a puppet state, and held it as a reservoir for food resources, or a paddy field.
To support a larger empire, its growing military, and an increase in naval power, the Japanese needed
more and more oil. Unfortunately, Japan only owned a few oil reserves and produced very little of its
own oil. They bought most of their oil from the United States. In fact, according to Suzuki Akira, US
Economic Sanctions Against Japan and its Aid to China during the Sino Japanese War , 80 percent of
Japan s 12,170,000 tons of oil was imported from the United States from 1937 1939. However, after
tensions mounted between the United States and Japan, the amount of oil exported from US to Japan
decreased dramatically, from 2,910,000 tons in 1940 to 880,000 tons in 1941, a 330 percent decrease
in oil imports from the US. Tensions continued rising when Japan announced that they will establish
new order , or the Japanese Empire in East Asia. The US showed their disprovement by declaring an
embargo of aircraft and aircraft parts (Iriye 1999) in 1939, and a complete oil embargo in 1941, a
resource the Japanese depended on the most. Fortunately for the Japanese, there were an abundant
amount of oil fields south of Japan, in the Philippines, East Indies, and New Guinea, however, were all

Unit 3. Assignment 1: Bacterial Growth Rates
1. Mediums that could be used to determine shigellosis include Btilliant Green Agar, and Triple Sugar
Iron Agar. Expected results in a confirmed case of shigellosis are as follows:
Brilliant Green Agar Isolated Shigella colonies which do not ferment lactose or sucrose and appear red
or white in color with no growth to trace growth on the Agar plate will be present.
Triple Sugar Iron Agar Presence of Shigella will manifest as a red slant with a yellow butt with no

quadrupling in number over a three day time frame, which is indicative of an impending harmful algal
bloom. With this rate of increase, it is safe to speculate that a full algal bloom will occur in
approximately 2.5 more days. There are other methods that may be used to investigate growth rates of
bacteria, and these include filtration, measuring turbidity with a colorimeter or spectrophotometer, and
using the most probable number method (Reikowski, 2013).
4. When beginning a culture of S. pneumonia with one cell at 9 a.m., the amount of cells that will be

will have passed (60 minutes x 10 hours = 600. 600 / 20 generations = 30 minute generation time.) If
this culture is left indefinitely, logarithmic growth will only be maintained for a limited time. This is a
result of the increase in the number of organisms and a decrease in nutrients, accumulation of
metabolic waste, limited living space, and oxygen depletion. Limiting factor for logarithmic growth is
the rate of which energy can be produced in the form of ATP. As nutrient availability decreases, cells
are less able to generate ATP and their growth rate significantly decreases. This decreased growth

In many cases it is natural to interpret the events of September 11th as purely evil, however, Lincoln
argues that the terrorist attacks were profoundly and intensely religious. For this reason, Lincoln
attempts to clarify what religion does and how it can be used to legitimate violent acts such as the
terrorist attacks of September 11th. To support his argument, Lincoln offers a definition of religion
that is more precise than the definition previously discussed in this essay. Lincoln argues that within
religion there is a religious maximalist approach and a religious minimalist approach. The maximalist
approach is the, conviction that religion ought to permeate all aspects of social, indeed of human
existence (Lincoln 5). Essentially maximalists believe that religion should be considered the most
important thing above all else. In contrast, minimalists believe that religion should be restricted to an
important set of (chiefly metaphysical) terms, protects its privileges against state intrusion but restricts
its activity and influence to its specialized sphere (Lincoln 5). Lincoln then goes on to define religion
as having four parts. The four parts being; discourse, which contains speech acts that create a social
reality in which people live, as well as, textual examples of transcendence. Secondly, there is practice
which consists of the rituals and ceremonies of religion. Thirdly there is, community which refers to
the people practicing the religion and constructing a religious world around it. Lastly there is,
institution which is the recognized regulation and representation of the religion, its practices and
community. All of these factors make up Lincoln s more specific definition of

Teaching Styles For Student Understanding And Creative...
Much like teaching styles adaptability, teachers must accommodate and adapt their teaching to ensure
student understanding and creative thought. Through tactical teaching styles that adapted and fitted the
students, students were able to understand and learn to the best of their abilities when taught by Mrs.
Graham and her colleagues. Needing diverse styles to appeal to them, students need teachers to create
creative and interactive ways to make the lessons seem interesting and relatable in their lives. Even at
the early beginnings of the school day, the Mount Olive Middle School students seemed interested
with majority of the students staying engaged for the entirety of the lesson. They showed their interest
and comfortableness in the classroom by asking questions that related to the topic that interested them
or in some cases, confused them. They were able to express their ideas, and Mrs. Graham would
expand based on what the students answered to explain further the topics of discussion. Due to these
previously established inviting environments, students felt secure and comfortable enough to share
their thoughts inside the different classrooms. During the time in the classes where the students were
able to unleash their creative sides and participate in the class, they really seemed excited to learn
during my observations. Especially during their scary story narratives, the students really responded

Symptoms And Treatment Of Pompe s Disease
Background Pompe s disease is a glycogen storage disease caused by mutation in a gene coding for
the acid 1 4 alpha glucosidase (GAA), the key enzyme in glycogenolysis within lysosomes. GAA
deficiency results in accumulation of glycogen and successive enlargement of lysosomes. As the
lysosomes enlarge, there is also accumulation of other related byproducts, overtaking the space
regularly occupied by myofibrils and impeding their function (Lewandowska E et al., 2008).
Individuals with a complete loss of GAA activity usually do not live past the age of 2, usually dying
from heart failure (Hesselink RP et al., 2003)(Sun B et al., 2015). Individuals with incomplete loss of
GAA activity, or late onset Pompe disease, typically survive until ... Show more content on

When the lysosomes are failing they begin to swell; the proton pumps are unable to properly maintain
the pH gradient to process and phagacytize cell products, causing the accumulation of lipofuscin in
skeletal muscle (Hesselink RP et al., 2003). These lipofuscin inclusions in individuals with Pompe s
disease prevent muscle from functioning properly (Feeney et al., 2014) Rapamycin, also known as
sirolimus, is an inhibitor of mTORC1 in the pathway for glycogen synthesis (Phyu SM et al., 2016).
Rapamycin is currently used as a treatment for many different medical conditions but has been shown
to reduce glycogen content in GSD III and reduce oxidative stress. It is a small molecule drug with
more specific purpose (Sun, B et al., 2015) as opposed to enzyme replacement therapy, the commonly
used treatment for GSD II which mostly treats the large scale cardiac problems associated with full
loss of GAA.

who realized the technical potentials of dry plates, which are what photographs were printed on in
1871. He began experimenting with chemicals for developing photos and making dry plates in his
mother s kitchen, and in 1880, he created an effective formula for dry plates. In 1888, once he had

Beforehand, only skilled photographers were able to take photos due to a complicated process, but
Eastman changed that. In 1888, [George Eastman] addressed the enormously large and previously
untapped mass amateur market by isolating the technical complexities from picture taking (Cooper
329). Isolating the problems of photography made is possible for nearly everyone to take photos, and
not just the professionals. This meant that more people were able to indulge in this hobby and capture
more images for the world to see. Eastman also constructed his own camera and process to make
things less complicated for individuals who wanted to take photographs. [Eastman] added to the
company s established production of photosensitive materials by designing a simple to operate, highly
portable roll film camera, the Kodak, and by providing factory service that included the unloading and
reloading of the camera with film and the developing and printing of the pictures (Cooper 329).
Creating a camera that was mobile made it possible for more people to easily have a camera with them
at most times and take photos whenever they please, like how most people today carry devices in their
pockets that can take photos with the tap of a button. Not only that, but consumers could effortlessly
send their film to back to Eastman Kodak and have their photos developed, without having to do so
themselves as they would have before. While George Eastman was a significant figure in the
department of film, it was not the only industry that he

Before I make my side of the contention, Here is some foundation data on the death penalty. The death
penalty was brought over from Britain, when the establishing fathers pronounced autonomy.
Europeans gave capital punishment for different violations. The primary recorded execution in
America happened in Jamestown, 1608. A man named George Kendall was executed for conspiracy.
In the prior provincial days, laws with respect to the death penalty differed relying upon the district
and the idea of the wrongdoing.
Amid the nineteen century, capital punishment changed drastically. Around this time capital
punishment began to lose prevalence. Expresses never again dedicated open executions. All
executions were done in private. Pennsylvania was the principal state to receive this pattern.
Inevitably a few states abrogated capital punishment all together. In current circumstances, fourteen

Ethical Treatment of Animals
ETHICAL TREATMENT OF ANIMALS
If you systematically question the significance and use of existence you are a philosopher, either
amateur or expert. Ethics is the division of philosophy that asks how nation supposed to live their lives
and how they ought to act good and right to each one. Animal ethics is equal but contains animals.
Robert Garner in his book Animal Ethics says Animal ethics look to examine values that are
apprehended concerning the moral standing of non human animals. (Audi, 2010).
Our correlation with animals is based on values we take in from our background and social way of
life. We recognize these values, frequently on conviction from our seniors, without testing or studying
them. But unexamined values when performed can do massive destruction everybody has a few
contact with animals straight or not directly, either agricultural or shooting animals, eating them,
providing food to their pets factory farmed animals, going to the zoo, by means of weathered
substances on animals or washing with animal based soap. Hitherto the largest part of nation do not
understand the pain and damage people inflict on animals since it goes mainly out of view and where
it peaks on top of the surface it is endured as usual.
Here is the point. The damage humans are doing to animal s amounts to a holocaust that we have to
take in hand (Audi, 2010). If we are to make refined evolution we have to understand what we are

Garrison Keillor s The Prodigal Son vs. Luke s The Parable of the Prodigal Son
The classic story of the Prodigal Son is one of the best known parables in literature. A parable is often
times described as a short narrative which teaches a moral; however, the plot is more realistic, than
say a fable, and the characters are humans as oppose to animals or natural forces within nature.
Parables are also presented in a more suggestive tone, which leaves them more open to interpretation.
The play Prodigal Son told by Garrison Keillor differs greatly in terms of style compared to Lukes

This style merely added to the parable itself. One could argue that since the personalities in Keillors
version were more developed, it left less room for ones own interpretation. Because the personalities
of the characters were more distinct, it also alllwed for more focus on the actual plot and the building
moral. Since the moral is the true point to a parable, it would be pointless for an audience or reader to
be stuck on the their curiosity of the type of people the characters were supposed to represent. More
detail, merely aids in the strength of a parables narrative qualities. A major difference that I noted
when reading and comparing the two parables was the usage of language. That writing style of the
parables truly affected my interpretation of the moral. Keillor took a much more modern approach to
the language that the characters conversed with. He also utilized more symbolism in the language in
order to pursue more of a comedy type piece. An example of such is when Wally returnas home and
his father is ecstatic about his return, and begins to give him gifts and attention. The father then
decides amongst all his excitement that he wants to give Wally a ring, which he had already given to
the older son Dwight. Dwight responds with, cant give it to the son who has worked his tail off for

  • 2. Essay about Homophobic, I Think Not We all know who Eminem is whether it be because we listen to his music or because of the huge controversy that seems to fallow his next billboard hit. Ever sense the release of his first album The Slim Shady LP in 1999 or the more predominate album under fire The Marshall Mathers LP released in 2000, and Encore in 2005 Eminem has been fighting off critics and gay and lesbian right activists because of his lyrical content. People say that he is a homophobic gay basher with no respect for women. Encore is another brilliant work from eninem but the album that started the most controversy was The Marshall Mather LP. Eminem gave his foes plenty of ammunition. In Criminal, he declared: My words are like a dagger with a jagged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A lot of my sh*t was so blatantly comic, how could you take it seriously? With The Marshall Mathers LP I brought it to a different level: If this is how you perceive me, then this is what I m gonna be. (VH1) Also coming with the release of The Marshall Mathers LP in 2000, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation labeled his lyrics offensive and launched a furious campaign against Interscope Records. There is no question that he has benefited from the fierce debate over the gay content of his lyrics. If you want a good estement of how much it helped him count every picket sign, T.V. show bad mouthing him, and parent telling their kid they cant listen to him; now multiply it by 10,000 because that how many more albums they just sold for him. I could understand if I just said all those things and just left it at that, but I was using irony and keeping my tongue in my cheek. Anybody with half a brain should be able to listen to it and understand that I m pushing your buttons. (vh1) The biggest blow to critics and protesters came at the 2005 Grammies. Where Eminem performed his moving duet with Elton John; and the movie 8 Mile which his character heroically confronts a gay basher. In 2005 Elton John wrote Eminem has the balls to say what he feels and to make offensive things funny. That s very necessary today in America, with people being muzzled and irony becoming a lost art. Artists like Eminem who use their free speech to get a point across are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Art Of Evoking Nature s Majesty Within A Tight Space A Japanese garden embodies the art of evoking nature s majesty within a tight space. Throughout 5th to 8th century Japanese gardens sprung up for ritual purposes. From the late 8th to the 12th century the Japanese gardens started to become more of aesthetic and social piece. These Japanese gardens hold many styles and elements. What make a Japanese garden so special are the natural materials, evoking the beauty of nature on a smaller scale. They re three types of Japanese gardens the most common of the garden design possesses a stream or pond lying in the center surrounded mounds of earth, both serving as a comparison an ocean to a mountain. The second is a dry garden also known as Zen gardens, having no water; instead the water is characterized by the arrangements of rocks and gravel. The third style is a tea garden developed as an extension of the tea ceremony. The tea garden gives an illusion of a deep forest. Japanese hold three fundamental elements water, stone, and trees, displaying the natural landscape of Japan. Behavioral Enrichment And Monitoring For Animal Welfare Behavioral Enrichment and Monitoring as Means to Improve Animal Welfare Although keepers have provided forms of enrichment to zoo animals for years, interest in scientifically raising captive animals standard of living has grown (Ben Ari, 2001). Behavioral engineering, also known as behavioral, animal, or environmental enrichment, is a type of husbandry technique used to better the physiological and psychological states of animals, conserve species by raising the rate of reproduction, diversify suitable behaviors, reduce stress and predatory and aggressive acts, increase learning ability, and/or provide animals with exercise, entertainment, or some sense of control in their environment (Ben Ari, 2001). Enrichment can take many forms, such as the addition of novelty objects to an animal s environment, renovating exhibits, and training (Ben Ari, 2001). However, Ben Ari (2001) details the emergence of a standardized scientific method of enrichment, in which enrichment strategies are planned, executed, observed, documented, assessed, and then modified. Nevertheless, intensive studies are not feasible for all zoos (Ben Ari, 2001). For example, only 2 percent of enrichment at Disney s Animal Kingdom is evaluated through 12 weeklong projects (Ben Ari, 2001). Although not widespread yet, these types of strategies take animals mental states and behaviors exhibited in the wild into account (Ben Ari, 2001). It was during this contribution that he felt the need to create a nom de plum, which became the widely known name of Lewis Carroll. At the same time, Carroll began his relationship with the Liddell girls, one of them by the name Alice who would become the basis for the renowned main character of the Alice in Wonderland stories. It was Carroll s particular fondness with young girls that created much controversy even while he lived. In 1856, after Alice Liddell begged Carroll to write the Alice stories down, Carroll decided to take the story to the publisher Macmillan who immediately enjoyed the story and published it. In the same year, Carroll also took up the art of photography, many of his subjects being young girls in which he expressed a beauty, a state of physical perfection found in the human form as it existed. This new hobby, along with his passion for theatre and the rebelliousness his works contained against the strict Victorian era, played a part in the confrontation and questioning of morality to the author. Lewis, not fond of publicity, avoided the public and the questions that came at him. Likewise, As Carroll s fame grew, juxtapose to it was a growing mythology about the author which soon became a false reality rather than myth. During December of 1897, Lewis Carroll, as he usually would do, took a trip down to Guildford to spend Christmas with his sisters. • 7. Bodily Products Should Not Be Marketable Organs play an important role in the functioning of the human body. We are born with them, and they work throughout our lives to keep us alive and well. Some people aren t so lucky and may have an organ dysfunction or health issue that requires them to get an organ transplant. In this case, a donor whose tissue cells match the recipient s must be the one to donate. However, this process could take from a few days to a few years since there are many people on the waiting list. This provokes the controversial topic of legalization of compensation for organs. Bodily products should not be marketable because it is immoral and possibly even dangerous. Organs were given to us when we came to life. We should give them to others as they were given to us. Why should anyone have to pay for something that can be given freely? If an organ is available, it should go to the person who needs it the most. No one should have to worry about the cost of it. Donating an organ can save a life. If someone cannot afford to pay for an organ, are we supposed to just let him or her die? That is not morally right. While the government plans to save more lives by legalizing payment for organs, it won t necessarily work out that way. According to the National Kidney Foundation, 92% of families who turned down donating organs of their deceased loved ones said they still would not have donated even if they received payment in return (237). This goes to show that even with money involved, most people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Black Holes Essay Black Holes Every day we look into the night sky, wondering and dreaming what lies beyond our galaxy. Within our galaxy alone, there are millions upon millions of stars. This may be why it interests us to learn about all that we cannot see. Humans have known the existence of stars since they have had eyes, and see them as white glowing specks in the sky. The mystery lies beyond the white glowing specks we see but, in the things we cannot see in the night sky such as black holes. Before I begin to speak about black holes, I will have to explain what the white glowing specks in the sky are. Without a star a black hole could not be formed. If the remnant of this giant exploding star is larger than three solar masses or ten times our sun, it becomes a black hole. A black hole is one of the last option that a star may take. In the 18th century scientists started to research the after effects of a large star such as a supernova exploding. What happens of the gas and dust left behind after such a big star died? The idea of mass concentration so dense that even light would be trapped goes all the way back to Laplace in the 18th century. The first scientist to really take an in depth look at black holes and the collapsing of stars, was a professor, Robert Oppenheimer and his student Hartland Snyder, in the early nineteen hundreds. They came up with the basics of a black hole from Einstein s theory of relativity that if the speed of light was the most speed over any massive object, then nothing could escape a black hole once in its grasp. These researchers showed that when a sufficiently massive star runs out of fuel, it is unable to support itself against its own gravitational pull, and it should collapse into a black hole. In general theory of relativity, gravity is a manifest of the curvature of the space time. Einstein general theory of relativity showed that light, though it does not react to gravity in the same way as ordinary matter, is nevertheless affected by strong gravitational fields. In fact, light itself cannot escape from inside this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. The Importance Of Imperialism In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of... It has been argued that humans are mere products of their environment. In the era of imperialism, artists argued that the nations were breeding grounds for corruption and greed. To illustrate this, several artists, such as Joseph Conrad, utilized the victimized frontiers to display the injustices that were happening. Conrad s Heart of Darkness uses the African environment s wildness and symbolic darkness to demonstrate that imperialism s lack of moral restraints will result in one s environment exploiting the evils hidden in their heart. A symbol itself, the Congo River served as a catalyst that carried Marlow s idealistic mindset into the heart of the dark jungle. In the river, one found that they were bewildered and cut off from everything [they] had known once because the waterway ran on... into the gloom of overshadowed distances , which resulted in moments when one s past came back... in the shape of an unrestful and noisy dream (Conrad 61). Marlow s prejudiced mindset against the natives originally presented an imperialistic mindset of saving subhumans, however, his ideas clashed with an enigma of the living past, which warped all ideas of reality. Ethical Issues In Iron Man In the 2008 movie Iron Man, Tony Stark makes a variety of significant ethical decisions as he goes through his transformation from selfish, irresponsible billionaire and genius, to slightly less selfish and slightly less irresponsible billionaire, genius and superhero. One of the earliest of these decisions that we see is his general irresponsibility about how the weapons that he manufactures are used, and more importantly, who has access to them. Although one could argue that this isn t a decision that he makes and instead is just ignorance to the goings on of his company, I would argue that as the owner of a large weapons manufacturing company, Tony Stark has a responsibility to be aware of what goes on in his company, at least to some extent, and so he decides the extent to which he will take on this responsibility. Later in the film, Tony Stark makes another significant ethical decision when he decides to fly back to the middle east and destroy terrorist s stockpiles of Stark Industries weapons. In fact, according to Suzuki Akira, US Economic Sanctions Against Japan and its Aid to China during the Sino Japanese War , 80 percent of Japan s 12,170,000 tons of oil was imported from the United States from 1937 1939. However, after tensions mounted between the United States and Japan, the amount of oil exported from US to Japan decreased dramatically, from 2,910,000 tons in 1940 to 880,000 tons in 1941, a 330 percent decrease in oil imports from the US. Tensions continued rising when Japan announced that they will establish new order , or the Japanese Empire in East Asia. The US showed their disprovement by declaring an embargo of aircraft and aircraft parts (Iriye 1999) in 1939, and a complete oil embargo in 1941, a resource the Japanese depended on the most. Fortunately for the Japanese, there were an abundant amount of oil fields south of Japan, in the Philippines, East Indies, and New Guinea, however, were all occupied by the European nations and the United States. Expected results in a confirmed case of shigellosis are as follows: Brilliant Green Agar Isolated Shigella colonies which do not ferment lactose or sucrose and appear red or white in color with no growth to trace growth on the Agar plate will be present. Triple Sugar Iron Agar Presence of Shigella will manifest as a red slant with a yellow butt with no H2S present. These results suggest that the K. brevis counts are significantly increasing by more than quadrupling in number over a three day time frame, which is indicative of an impending harmful algal bloom. With this rate of increase, it is safe to speculate that a full algal bloom will occur in approximately 2.5 more days. There are other methods that may be used to investigate growth rates of bacteria, and these include filtration, measuring turbidity with a colorimeter or spectrophotometer, and using the most probable number method (Reikowski, 2013). 4. When beginning a culture of S. pneumonia with one cell at 9 a.m., the amount of cells that will be present by noon is equal to 64 cells. If you were to begin this experiment by 6:30 p.m., 20 generations will have passed (60 minutes x 10 hours = 600. 600 / 20 generations = 30 minute generation time.) If this culture is left indefinitely, logarithmic growth will only be maintained for a limited time. This is a result of the increase in the number of organisms and a decrease in nutrients, accumulation of metabolic waste, limited living space, and oxygen depletion. Limiting factor for logarithmic growth is the rate of which energy can be produced in the form of ATP. As nutrient availability decreases, cells are less able to generate ATP and their growth rate significantly decreases. This decreased growth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Lakota Woman The relationship between religion and violence is extremely complicated and misunderstood, but by analyzing the books, Lakota Woman written by Mary Crow Dog and Holy Terrors written by Bruce Lincoln, the relationship becomes more defined within each texts particular religious world. Lakota Woman and Holy Terrors both offer detailed accounts that portray the many ways in which the authoritative roles of religion are used to legitimate violence. Lakota Woman follows the life of Mary Crow Dog, a woman who decides to reconnect with her Lakota heritage in hopes of gaining a stronger sense of identity and purpose. In many cases it is natural to interpret the events of September 11th as purely evil, however, Lincoln argues that the terrorist attacks were profoundly and intensely religious. For this reason, Lincoln attempts to clarify what religion does and how it can be used to legitimate violent acts such as the terrorist attacks of September 11th. To support his argument, Lincoln offers a definition of religion that is more precise than the definition previously discussed in this essay. Lincoln argues that within religion there is a religious maximalist approach and a religious minimalist approach. The maximalist approach is the, conviction that religion ought to permeate all aspects of social, indeed of human existence (Lincoln 5). Essentially maximalists believe that religion should be considered the most important thing above all else. In contrast, minimalists believe that religion should be restricted to an important set of (chiefly metaphysical) terms, protects its privileges against state intrusion but restricts its activity and influence to its specialized sphere (Lincoln 5). Lincoln then goes on to define religion as having four parts. The four parts being; discourse, which contains speech acts that create a social reality in which people live, as well as, textual examples of transcendence. Secondly, there is practice which consists of the rituals and ceremonies of religion. Thirdly there is, community which refers to the people practicing the religion and constructing a religious world around it. Lastly there is, institution which is the recognized regulation and representation of the religion, its practices and community. All of these factors make up Lincoln s more specific definition of ... Much like teaching styles adaptability, teachers must accommodate and adapt their teaching to ensure student understanding and creative thought. Through tactical teaching styles that adapted and fitted the students, students were able to understand and learn to the best of their abilities when taught by Mrs. Graham and her colleagues. Needing diverse styles to appeal to them, students need teachers to create creative and interactive ways to make the lessons seem interesting and relatable in their lives. Even at the early beginnings of the school day, the Mount Olive Middle School students seemed interested with majority of the students staying engaged for the entirety of the lesson. They showed their interest and comfortableness in the classroom by asking questions that related to the topic that interested them or in some cases, confused them. They were able to express their ideas, and Mrs. Graham would expand based on what the students answered to explain further the topics of discussion. Due to these previously established inviting environments, students felt secure and comfortable enough to share their thoughts inside the different classrooms. During the time in the classes where the students were able to unleash their creative sides and participate in the class, they really seemed excited to learn during my observations. • 30. Symptoms And Treatment Of Pompe s Disease Background Pompe s disease is a glycogen storage disease caused by mutation in a gene coding for the acid 1 4 alpha glucosidase (GAA), the key enzyme in glycogenolysis within lysosomes. GAA deficiency results in accumulation of glycogen and successive enlargement of lysosomes. As the lysosomes enlarge, there is also accumulation of other related byproducts, overtaking the space regularly occupied by myofibrils and impeding their function (Lewandowska E et al., 2008). Individuals with a complete loss of GAA activity usually do not live past the age of 2, usually dying from heart failure (Hesselink RP et al., 2003)(Sun B et al., 2015). When the lysosomes are failing they begin to swell; the proton pumps are unable to properly maintain the pH gradient to process and phagacytize cell products, causing the accumulation of lipofuscin in skeletal muscle (Hesselink RP et al., 2003). Rapamycin is currently used as a treatment for many different medical conditions but has been shown to reduce glycogen content in GSD III and reduce oxidative stress. It is a small molecule drug with more specific purpose (Sun, B et al., 2015) as opposed to enzyme replacement therapy, the commonly used treatment for GSD II which mostly treats the large scale cardiac problems associated with full loss of GAA. George Eastman, born in 1854, was an amateur photographer without much education, who realized the technical potentials of dry plates, which are what photographs were printed on in 1871. He began experimenting with chemicals for developing photos and making dry plates in his mother s kitchen, and in 1880, he created an effective formula for dry plates. Isolating the problems of photography made is possible for nearly everyone to take photos, and not just the professionals. This meant that more people were able to indulge in this hobby and capture more images for the world to see. Eastman also constructed his own camera and process to make things less complicated for individuals who wanted to take photographs. [Eastman] added to the company s established production of photosensitive materials by designing a simple to operate, highly portable roll film camera, the Kodak, and by providing factory service that included the unloading and reloading of the camera with film and the developing and printing of the pictures (Cooper 329). Creating a camera that was mobile made it possible for more people to easily have a camera with them at most times and take photos whenever they please, like how most people today carry devices in their pockets that can take photos with the tap of a button. Almost eight years prior President John F. Kennedy made his proclamation to the American people, that we would land on the moon. Despite the success the task was an enormous one. Garrison Keillor s The Prodigal Son vs. Luke s The Parable of the Prodigal Son The classic story of the Prodigal Son is one of the best known parables in literature. A parable is often times described as a short narrative which teaches a moral; however, the plot is more realistic, than say a fable, and the characters are humans as oppose to animals or natural forces within nature. Parables are also presented in a more suggestive tone, which leaves them more open to interpretation. One could argue that since the personalities in Keillors version were more developed, it left less room for ones own interpretation. Since the moral is the true point to a parable, it would be pointless for an audience or reader to be stuck on the their curiosity of the type of people the characters were supposed to represent. More detail, merely aids in the strength of a parables narrative qualities. A major difference that I noted when reading and comparing the two parables was the usage of language. That writing style of the parables truly affected my interpretation of the moral. Keillor took a much more modern approach to the language that the characters conversed with. He also utilized more symbolism in the language in order to pursue more of a comedy type piece.
