Influential People Essay
Crafting an essay on the theme of influential people poses a multifaceted challenge that extends
beyond the conventional boundaries of essay writing. The difficulty lies not only in the need for
meticulous research and articulate expression but also in the subjective nature of influence itself.
Selecting individuals who have left a lasting impact on society demands a keen understanding of
historical, cultural, and personal contexts.
The task requires a delicate balance between presenting well-known figures and shedding light
on those whose influence might be overlooked. Navigating through the vast sea of potential
subjects, ranging from political leaders to cultural icons, demands careful consideration and the
ability to discern the depth of their impact. This complexity adds layers to the writing process,
urging the author to delve into the intricacies of each individual's contributions and legacy.
Moreover, the challenge is heightened by the need to convey the significance of their influence,
not just narrate their biographies. Analyzing the ripple effect these figures have had on their
respective fields and society as a whole requires critical thinking and a nuanced approach to
storytelling.
Assembling these aspects into a coherent and engaging essay demands more than just the ability
to articulate thoughts; it necessitates the skill to weave a compelling narrative that captivates the
reader. A successful essay on influential people transcends a mere list of achievements and
delves into the nuances of character, challenges faced, and the lasting imprint on the world.
In conclusion, the difficulty in writing an essay on influential people stems from the intricate
web of historical, cultural, and personal considerations. It calls for a writer's ability to navigate
through a myriad of choices, analyze impact, and present a compelling narrative. Crafting such
an essay requires not only writing prowess but also a keen understanding of the complexities
surrounding the concept of influence.

Italian Fascism Research Paper
The conclusion of World War I and the subsequent negotiation of the Treaty of
Versailles set the stage for Italian Fascism to rise. Despite being a member of the
victorious Allies, sacrificing over 650,000 Italian lives in the war effort, Italy was
nonetheless awarded very little in the Treaty of Versailles. In addition to the high
cost paid in human lives, Italy was also left with a sizable debt as a result of the war.
But, perhaps most important, however, to understanding the rise of Italian Fascism
was the return of the disenchanted WWI veterans who would later become the
perpetrators of the political violence in advance of the Fascist cause. Many of the
Italian veterans bemoaned the lack of patriotism within Italy, blaming the Italian...

Eliyahu M. Goldratt s The Goal
Alex Rogo in the novel The Goal, by Eliyahu M. Goldratt faces many issues when
trying to save his failing plant. He has three months to turn the failing plant around.
Rogo is on the verge of losing his job for having an unproductive plant. He is
constantly dealing with emergencies at the plant because has a large backlog of
customer orders, long lead times, angry customers and significant amounts of work
in process inventory sitting around the plant. He has very expensive, up to date,
supposedly extremely productive robots on his factory floor but something is not
working correctly or the plant would not be failing like it is. Rogo wants and needs
to improve his plant productivity. Rogo consultants with an old friend Jonah and

When Rogo sells an item from inventory, he is selling an asset, which was valued
at full cost. The plant increased the production of the bottlenecks and shipped 3
million dollars in orders during the second month. Labor costs were then
unchanged, so labor, depreciation, and utility costs should remain constant. Bill
Peach then told Rogo to increase these profits by 15%, which means to keep the
plant open, he would need additional money. Rogo figured out the correct pricing
so if material costs were 344 dollars per unit, and a 1,000 dollar sales price, an
additional 208 units would be sufficient to reach the target and the factory would
ultimately stay open and he would not lose his job and hundreds of workers would
not be out of work
Zen Buddhism And The Zen School
Zen Buddhism originated from Chinese Ch an Buddhism that was transmitted to
Japan. The Zen school was known as one of the many Buddhist religion in Japan. In
Japan, Zen is defined as the buddha mind, ...the ultimate reality, or emptiness, of all
things and the enlightened state, or knowledge of that reality, characteristic of a
buddha (Bielefeldt 1995: 198). Zenemphasizes on the insight into the Buddha nature
through seated meditation(zazen), meditation practice, and teacher sudden
interaction. Zazen was understood as an expression of the Buddha nature. Zen
Buddhism, focus on a separate transmission outside scripture, not depend on words or
letters, a school based solely on the teaching of Bodhidharma, which points directly at
the person s mind, enabling one to see his own nature and become a budhha (
Bielefeldt 2002: 5). The teaching of Zen was divided into two distinct monastic
schools: The Northern school (Shen hsiu) and the Southern school (Hui neng). This
paper will show that the difference between the teaching of Gradual and Sudden have
affected the way people traditionally perceive enlightenment through the Northern
school and Southern school of teaching and Shen hui criticism of the Northern school
practice.
Buddhism is the teaching of enlightenment and to achieve enlightenment is the
reason why people practice this religion. Enlightenment refers to a singular, intense
experience of insight that one has achieved self realization. One who attains a state of
H Capsulatum Research Paper
H. capsulatum is a dimorphic fungal pathogen that thrives in its mycelial phase in soil
containing high concentrations of bird or bat guano, and every year hundreds of
thousands of individuals who live in areas of endemicity are infected1,2. Though
found worldwide, histoplasmosis is primarily a disease of North and Central America
that is generally asymptomatic in healthy persons but may be fatal in
immunosuppressed individuals2. Infection occurs by inhalation of small mycelial
fragments or microconidia into the terminal bronchioles and alveoli of the lung.
Inhaled conidia are phagocytosed by macrophages and the change in temperature
from 250C to 370C induces the transformation into the yeast phase, which is
responsible for the pathogenesis of histoplasmosis3 5.... Show more content on

capsulatum must overcome numerous in vivo microenvironmental challenges to
cause disease. The immediate host response is the stimulation of the macrophage s
microbicidal properties: oxidative stress, acidic pH, degradative stress caused by
hydrolytic enzymes present in the lysosome, and nutrient (zinc and iron)
deprivation6,7. Despite the harsh intracellular environment of the macrophage, H.
capsulatum has evolved various mechanisms to evade destruction by the
macrophage8. Inhaled yeasts can travel via the lymph nodes to the liver and spleen
and cause disseminated infection. There activated macrophages and other host
components surround the infected cells forming a circular wall of aggregated
inflammatory cells or granuloma6,9. The granuloma functions to inhibit H.
capsulatum growth and replication by restricting access to oxygen and nutrients and
exposing the fungi to acidic pH and other immune effectors10,11. However, the
fungus within the granuloma may also benefit from this isolated microenvironment.
The granuloma may provide shelter from destruction by the host, and can serve as the
source from which surviving pathogens emerge during reactivation of latent
Change In William Faulkner s A Rose For Emily
A Rose for Emily : Change is painful, but nothing is as painful as someone being
stuck somewhere they don t belong. In William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily, Emily
Grierson is a woman who is reluctant to conform to the adjusting South; with
everything around her growing and becoming modern, Emily is faced with some
difficult circumstances after her father passes away that allow her to finally be in
control of her life. One of which, leaves the townspeople to find her poisoned, cold
fiancГ© stiff in her bed and one of her gray hairs nestled softly beside him. The cliche
quote, the more things change, the more they stay the same reflects how Faulkner
demonstrates that some individual s response to change is unpleasant, but their
unwillingless attitude stays.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning of the story, Emily is confronted by the community after her tax
notice is not received, and she responds, I have no taxes in Jefferson (122). This is
the first time Faulkner allows the audience to experience how stubborn Miss Emily
is in her ways and how she is customary to the life before the amendments of the
town. Her residence is a big plantation home and inherites wealth that is passed down
from her father. Although the Civil War is recently over and the Emmancipation
Proclamation has been addressed, she continues to control Toby, her slave. This
demonstrates that she doesn t want to adapt to the blossoming town around her and
how she wants to stay in traditional times. When her father passes away, it takes
three days for the community to persuade her to allow them to take his body from
her: She told them that her father was not dead (123). Later in the story, postal
services become popular, but Emily, being accustomed, refuses to take part in this
modern activity, being stuck in her normal
What A Woman Is Not Born, By Simone De Beauvoir Essay
One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman. French existentialist writer, Simone
de Beauvoir, states in The Second Sex (1949), powerful analysis of what a woman
should be in the West. She goes into detail on how femininity is a social construct
and was constructed for the male gaze, the patriarchy (Nigel Warburton, 2014). This
is an argument in both Sandra Lee Bartky s Foucault, Femininity, and the
Modernization of Patriarchal Power, according to her, you are born into your gender,
not the characteristics of it (2010, 27). And in Rosalind Gill s Supersexualize Me!:
Advertising and the Midriffs , she discusses how advertisements are a major factor
in shaping our views on what is masculine and feminine (2007, 95). In this essay, I
will compare each chapters arguments, this includes power and femininity and who
is to blame for disciplining women s bodies to fit a narrow spectrum of femininity;
and the similarities of the arguments when discussing how femininity is being
shown in the size, movement and appearance of a women s body and how they
both reject societal meanings of femininity. As for the first difference, power and
femininity are shown in very different lights. Gill argues that women in our
modern media portray a form of sexual power , which is an active subject for the
male gaze (2007, 100). She discusses the shift of society s definition of femininity
from child like passive individuals to an active sexual subject for the male gaze. And

Book Review over Washington s Spies Essay
The Truth About Washington s Spies
Madeline Carlson America s first spy ring, better known as the Cupler ring, was
Washington s carefully thought out solution to gain intelligence on the
overpowering British troops. The revolution was happening; there was no turning
back and no denying that America was going to gain independence from Great
Britain. Washington needed a plan, a way to foresee what the British planned to do
next. Washington s only solution was to resort to spying. Washington desperately
needed to gain intelligence of General William Howe s next plan of attack, however
there were few who wanted to risk partaking in such a dishonorable task as spying.
Hale was the first, and most well known, of the many spies to scout ... Show more

The tales show anything from the exciting tales of close encounters to the invisible
ink and coded messages to the life of deception Washington s spies embraced. Rose
not only reveals the exciting tales of danger, but also shows how the deceptive spies
and Washington gained mutual trust through the difficult situations.
Rose s thesis statement declared how honor affected the spies who were a part of the
Culper ring. He first mentioned honor in the first chapter, quoting Nathan Hale,
Spying, he agreed, was not an honorable undertaking, but if the exigencies of my
country demand a peculiar service its claims to perform that service are imperious.
The spying game was not considered gentlemen s work, for the title spy was
dishonorable in itself. Throughout the book, Rose proved his thesis by mentioning
how it affected each of the members described in his book along with some internal
conflict they had about it. Rose concluded the book with an epilogue sharing how
each of the spies lived their lives after the war was over, and how many could return
to their normal lives without the criticism of partaking in Washington s dishonorable
tasks.
Rose s tales evaluated how the individuals themselves, in a way, altered history. Each
individual in the Culper ring motivated history and altered what could have been in
some way. Whether Nathan Hale s death made him a revolutionary hero, or Benjamin
Tallmadge s idea of the Culper ring each

Problems
a) Study a country on how and why its population has aged rapidly during the last 40
or 50 years, and analyze its consequences.
Japan s graying population: The reasons behind it, steps taken to curb it and the
implications of an aging society
Introduction
Japan has seen rapid development from the times of Meiji Restoration (1868) up till
today. In fact, it has grown more rapidly than any other countries from 1870 to 1994
(Nafziger,1995) because of the various economic policies its government had
undertaken after the war ended. Thus, as a result of this economic growth, standard
of living has gone up and along with technological advancements, Japan enjoys one of
the highest life expectancy compared to any other countries in the world ... Show

Another reason is the economic recession. The economy was bad for Japan
throughout the 1990s. The unemployment rate rose sharply from 2% in 1990 to
5% in 2003(Suzuki, 2006). Youth was not given an opportunity to work and those
who did obtain a stable job decreased from 77.8% in 1988 to 55.8% in 2004 and
that those who obtained no job or a temporary job went up from 9.4% to 24.6%
during the same period. The proportion proceeding to higher education increased
from 6.5% to 11.8% meaning that starting a family will be delayed. .
Suzuki also mentioned that the low income of young men relative to their fathers
discouraged marriage. Previously, the income of men in their 30s were more than that
of their fathers and motivated women to marry them. Current trends, however,
indicated that the relative income of young men to old men has declined substantially
and young men are less appealing as marriage partners than before.
Problems with an aging society
One of the issues with an ageing society is that the dependency ratio of the country
will increase. Dependency ratio refers to the number of persons under age 15 plus
persons aged 65 or older per one hundred persons 15 to 64. It is the sum of the
youth dependency ratio and the old age dependency ratio. This means that as the
society ages, more young people are tasked
Learning Is A Key Component Of Human Development
Learning is a crucial component of human development; learning helps people
understand past mistakes and progress in both their personal and professional lives.
Children would remain stagnant if they did not learn which is why it is important to
take the time to understand human methods of learning, and develop ways to
enhance the learningprocess. In my reflection journal I will address at least two main
points from the weekly reading from Contemporary Theories of Learning (Illeris,
2009) and Emotional Intelligence(Goleman, 2005). In addition I will include my
personal connection and application for each point. In Contemporary Theories of
Learning, Illeris defined learning as any process that in living organisms leads to
permanent capacity change and which is not solely due to biological maturation or
ageing (Illeris, 2009). I found this definition interesting, because learning by his
definition is centered on change and the learning that typically takes place in our
school systems are not centered on change; they are centered on memorizing facts by
rote memorization. When I attended a semester at Calvary Chapel Bible College in
Murrieta California, one of my professors discussed that there are five different types
of learning levels, including rote, recognition, restatement, relation, and realization.
After reviewing these five levels, I noticed that the actual change does not occur until
the realization stage where the individual understands the information
Age Related Macular Degeneration ( Amd )
Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is a clinical condition in which there is a
progressive decrease in central vision. There are two forms of macular degeneration,
dry/nonexudative and wet/exudative, and these differ in fundal findings and
treatment options. Dry macular degeneration is due to accumulation of drusen
between the retinal pigment epithelium and Bruch s membrane and eventually
progresses to geographic atrophy. Geographic atrophy refers to loss of retinal pigment
epithelium (RPE) and photoreceptors. Wet macular degeneration, comprising up to
80% of cases of macular degeneration, is due to neovascularization forming choroidal
neovascular membranes, which are unstable vessels leading to an array of
complications including... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One important direction of research was the association drawn between
complement Factor H and macular degeneration, which proposed that macular
degeneration could be considered a much broader systemic vascular disease. Factor
H is a glycoprotein that aids in the inhibiting the activation of the alternate pathway
to prevent the host from activating the immune response towards self antigens. The
association between factor H and macular degeneration is so great that a
homozygous single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) can increase the risk of
developing age related macular degeneration by seven fold and even a
heterozygous SNP can increase the risk two to three fold. Furthermore, deletions in
the genes for complement factor H related 1 and 3, which compete with factor H for
binding sites, have been demonstrated to protect against age related macular
degeneration by increasing the amount of binding sites available for complement
factor H to bind to the vasculature. Factor H has even been shown to be actively
synthesized by the RPE; gene products were generated from cultured RPE and real
time RT PCR established that transcripts for factor H were abundant in the RPE. The
association is even clearer when clinically examining patients with
Membranoproliferative Glomerulonephritis II in which there is a deficiency in factor
H. These patients develop early onset drusen on fundal examination. Most
importantly, the association found between factor H and AMD stirred

A Brief Note On The Civilian Aerospace Industry Essay
Introduction: The civilian aerospace industry comprises firms that produce aircraft
and firms that parts of these aircraft. The most commonly produced civilian transport
airliners range from smaller turboprop aircraft to larger wide body jets. Other types
aircraft are produced in much smaller quantities and include two seat leisure aircraft,
corporate jets, and civilian helicopters.
Consumers of the American aircraft include the US government, airline companies,
cargo transportation companies, and various private businesses. Aircraft
manufacturers contract with these firms to produce aircraft. These manufacturers
often subcontract with smaller companies for specific components such as engines
and electronics.
The limited amount of aircraft contracts and large economies of scale in aircraft
production has led the civilian aerospace industry to be dominated by a few large
firms. The United States is home to most of the major producers in the civil
aerospace industry, notably the Boeing Company, United Technologies, and General
Electric. Due to the complexity of certain aircraft parts, subcontractor firms specialize
to only produce those components. For example, companies such as General Electric
and the United Technologies Corporation specialize in the production of aircraft
engines. These parts are then sold to companies like Boeing and incorporated into the
airframe to produce a complete aircraft. Notable foreign competitors include the

Stereotypes In Training Day
An Exploration of the Dynamics of Ghetto Masculinity and the Upholding of
Negative Representations in Training Day I am going to look at the ways in which
Training Day uses mythic stereotypes of black males and ghetto masculinity to
portray negative representations of black society in America, and how hegemonic
values of white audiences leaves these representations unquestioned. My main focus
will be the representation of the main protagonist, Alonzo, an African America
police officer played by Denzel Washington. First I will look at the history and
background of Black representation in film. Early Black cinema, known as The

The character of John Shaft is represented as a streetwise, confident anti hero cop
and paved the way for many other films with similar characters. By the 1970s clear
mythic representations of black males had been established and were defined by
Stuart Hall as three stereotypes; the subordinate slave , the unlawful slave and the
clown/entertainer . These representations of black males have been seen time after
time and so they have become hegemonic and unquestioned by society to the extent
that white audiences believe they are entirely accurate and true to life. In the
1980s was the Era of Hollywood Conservative Backlash Creation of Crossover
Black Stars which saw a decline in Black film. Then in the late 1980s and early
1990s black film started to become prominent again with the showcasing of films
by Black directors, such as Spike Lee and John Singleton, as well as Black actors.
There were several different angles that these films used; films such as Malcolm X
which promoted black history; inner city movies such as Boyz n the Hood which
attempted to portray life in the ghetto; and Black Middle Class films. The
stereotypes of these films link to Stuart Hall s theory of the three stereotypes; the
subservient slave: black sidekicks to a white hero; the unlawful slave: these are
shown in many inner city films often known as Gangsploitation

The Seven Habits Of Highly Effective People By Dr. Covey
The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Dr. Stephen Covey outlines seven
behaviors of a successful leader. He called it Principle Centered Leadership (2000,
p. 13). The seven habits as described by Dr. Covey are: 1. Be proactive 2. Begin
with the end in mind 3. Put first things first 4. Think win/win 5. Seek first to
understand... then to be understood 6. Synergize 7. Sharpen the Shaw The attached
profile sheet reflects a panoramic view of my alignment to some of those
principles. The seven habits are a way of thinking, living and doing that is
consistent (Harvey, 2015) with what Covey describes as Principle centered living
(Covey, 2000, p. 59). The seven habits profile sheet measures how we see, perceive
our actions and attitudes towards ourselves and towards others. The first category
measure in the profile sheet is the Emotional bank account , which is Covey s
representation of the emotional units that can be deposited or withdrawn in our
relationship with others. My score in this category was 12 out of 18 possible
points. This score places me slightly above average, which means I keep a very
small balance in my emotional bank account. As a leader, I need to do a better job
at keeping a higher balance between my emotional deposits and withdrawals by, for
example, apologizing more often when I make a mistake, and offend a friend or
colleague, including my own subordinates. The second category measured by the
seven habits profile sheet is Life balance ,
Who Is Mcdonald s

During this assignment, I intend to cover the marketing concept and its importance
to an organization as McDonalds. I will make particular reference of the marketing
environment, consumer markets, market segmentation and the importance of the role
of the marketing mix. In addition, I will focus on the concepts of marketing in terms
of supporting their brand standards.
McDonalds is known as the world s largest fast food chain and his presence is
global. McDonald s has over 25,000 restaurants in the world., The organization,
founded in 1940 by Richard and Maurice McDonald, has now operating over 1200

Marketing is products that don t come back and consumers that do (Steve Dawson,

The right product, in the right place, at the right time, at the right price (Adcock)
According to Lansingbusinessnews.com (2015), brand standards are defined as a set
of guidelines made to help companies and their affiliates to communicate the look,
feel and representation of an organization. The purpose of using these guidelines is to
transmit the same message to the target audience, so in this way the organization s
message remains consistent.
McDonald s strategy is to ensure uniformity at a global level and for this reason, all
franchisees use standardized McDonald s branding, menus, design layouts and
administration system (Franchising at McDonald s, 2008). Also, they focus on using
the same manufacturing or handling methods in order to maintain the quality of the
menu items.
Brand standards are different for every organization and companies as McDonalds
concentrate on every detail, but certainly a key point in brand developing is the
logo. It is arguable that McDonalds has changed his logo many times but, surely, this
can be explained by its long history and the need of adaptability. Although the
McDonald s logo was inconsistently presented, this fact has not stopped McDonald s

How Did Alan Moore Influence Pop Culture

With all of these books winning all of these awards, it made people s heads spin,
which is exactly what graphic novels needed due to them not being the most
popular, and almost looked down upon by some people. Alan Moore s writing
changed many people s views on pop culture, with his critically acclaimed comics

peoples graphic novelwriting and why was it getting so much more attention than

A new Class A minor league baseball team called the Nor easters is coming to

Falcons, was having trouble drawing revenue. Since the Nor easters are a new
team it ll be challenging for them to draw fans. Springfield is located 90 miles

lost many high wage residents resulting in 3.6% drop in average wages since 1990.

This idea would be a great alternative since it brings in more fans and revenue
without using many seats to do so and also increases the Springfield Nor easters
entertainment value and name as a fun location for kids. In addition to fun, we ll
sell food from concession stands or cater to the parties needs. We would designate
a section of the stadium for large groups to rent if they just want to sit down and
watch the game. These sections in the stadium are located in the left and right field
lines of the stadium oppose of each other. Space is plentiful as we estimate
attendance to increase. Kid s parties may bring in 20 30 students in their class along
with 2 parents. This will increase attendance an estimated 60 90 people per party. If
you include siblings, friends, or facility members, attendance can potentially amount
to over 100/party. An estimated 100 in attendance with an average concession stand
rate of $11 $13/person can amount to roughly to $1,100 $1,300 in increase revenue
not including the rental of the party zone location.
Solution 2:
Shuttle service Another solution consists of providing shuttle buses for college
students as the case provided students didn t have proper transportation to the baseball
stadium. To fill in stands at the stadium I recommend we discount these tickets for
students since they don t really have a lot of money to spend.

Rabbit Proof Fence
Write down a few of yours own thoughts about the film Rabbit Proof Fence. How
did you react to the film? Did you enjoy it? Why or why not?
I enjoyed the film, despite how sad it was. It brought attention to an important theme
and it told the story in an exciting, yet realistic way. The fact that it was based on a
real story only made it sadder. I believe this film should be watch by all to inform
about the flaws in AustraliaВґs legal system and the horrors experienced by the native
population.
What do you think are the film s key themes and issues?
I believe the film works as a critique of AustraliaВґs former treatment of itВґs native
population. The theme is injustice, which is shown through the difference in how
white and aboriginal children were treated. The story also deals with important issues
such as growing up, responsibility and family, and how teenagers experience these
things. Especially important is the focus on the way the children have to stand up for
themselves, get out of tricky situations and face challenges children should never

Biomes are the Communities of the World
Biomes are all over the world, that s why they are considered the world s major
communities. Biomes are large areas scattered around the earth, filled with animals
and plants acclimating to their environments. You can classify biomes in many
different ways, by their climate, their biodiversity, human activity, their animals and
plants, and their habitats. There are only five conspicuous types of biomes,
Grassland, Tundra, Desert, Aquatic, and forest. Without biomes, the earth would be
unbalanced. Throughout the years, we have cause a lot of damage towards our earth,
such as causing pollution, and abolishing natural habitats. If we continue living like
this, there might be more serious or severe implications on the biomes. Knowing that
we share the world with so many other species of plants and animals, we should
consider the consequences of our actions. The Aquatic biomeis the most significant
out of all of the five biomes. Water is essential and important for life here on Earth.
It s what we all need in order to survive. Water also supports life, and many different
species live in it, or for some parts of their life. Since water covers one thirds of the
Earth, the temperature of the aquatic biome tends to be humid and slightly cool. It
is fairly constant so it can be able to tolerate life. This region is filled with so many
different species of animals some big and some even small. The Aquatic biome is

Serial Killers in the U.S. Essays
Before we can discuss what serial killers do, we must first define what a serial
killer is. Some people might place serial killers into the same group as mass
murderers. This would be incorrect because they are two totally different types of
killers. While both of these individuals may kill many people, the difference lies in
the reason they kill and the period over which they kill their victims. An event or a
build up of circumstance triggers mass murderersand causes them to act. This may be
the result of a stressful situation or frustration either at work or in their private lives.

S. Good locations for serial killers include any city or area large enough to support
prostitution, drug cultures, runaway children or street people. They can and do

Serial killers were once considered a rarity. Even though reports in Europe go back
as far as the fifteenth century, only a few were written about prior to the mid
twentieth century. One of the most widely written about was Jack the
Ripper, who claimed only 5 victims in a three month period. This would put him in
the bottom of the class by to day s standards. During the past twenty years, serial
killings have become more frequent. We have even seen up to a half dozen of their
cases on the news simultaneously. Cases such as San Francisco s Zodiac
Killer; New York City s Son of Sam; Atlanta s child murderer, Wayne Williams;
Los Angeles s Hillside Strangler; and Milwaukee s own, Jeffrey Dahmer. Many
times, they fit into a pattern, but sometimes there is no pattern. The phenomenon is
world wide, from England s Yorkshire Ripper, Peter Sutcliffe s killing of 13 women
prior to 1981, to Russia s Rostov Cannibal, Anderei

a 12 year period prior to 1990.

Doublethink In Order To Live
Found in a fictional story, the term doublethink is something Yeonmi Park finds
solace in. From the George Orwell novel Nineteen Eighty Four , the word describes a
mindset of simultaneous contradictory statements. When Yeonmi Park uses the term
doublethink in her book In Order to Live , it is easy to relate its contradictory
conditions to hypocrisy. However, doublethink serves its purpose as an abuse narrative
. The term itself shows how lying is a means of survival, even if that lying is to
oneself. Doublethink is not a synonym for hypocrisy, but is in reality a coping
mechanism for abuse.
Living in the doublethink state of mind is not a conscious decision, but rather is
conditioned into you. The way Yeonmi relates to the term doublethink is through her
experience watching North Koreans live walking contradictions every day. She
notices how North Koreans will give undying praise to the regime and truly mean it
and later in their day go on to engage in practices that go directly against what the
dictatorship stands for. She compares ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before even learning of a word to describe this condition, Yeonmi used the same
principles to cope with her life growing up in North Korea. By following this
conflicting thought process of believing two mutually exclusive ideas
simultaneously, it is actually a way for her own subconscious to adapt to the
stressful environment. Not only is it difficult to admit everything you have been
taught was a lie, but it is dangerous to doubt what you have been told when living in
an abusive environment. Not to mention, in North Korea, this danger is only
greater and doubts can raise suspicion. However, coping can be maladaptive as
well, such as in the case of her self harm during her time in the Resettlement Center
(219). Doublethink is a survival tactic for North Koreans, and a direct result of their

Instagram is an online social networking app that allows people to share photos and

According to Goldhaber (2006) Attention is a system that revolves primarily around
paying, receiving, and seeking what is most intrinsically limited and not replaceable
by anything else. It indicated that the overflowing information on the Internet created
an attention economy, people are desired to receive information as much as they can.
However, the overabundance of information led to the loss of attention. Especially
when the developed technology allows people to access to information in multiple
ways, multi screen and multi task became a social phenomenon. Thus social
interaction with the social networks services creates new channels for distributing
attention. Hayles (2007) stated that the shift in cognitive styles can be seen in the
contrast between deep attention and hyper attention. Deep attention is focus on a
single object for long time, however, hyper attention is a switching focus on multiple

Similarities Between Gulf And The Gilgamesh Flood
The Epic of Gilgamesh has been important to Christians as far back as its revelation

There have been various flood stories distinguished from antiquated sources scattered

Reasonable Occupation Review Paper
Effects of the Realistic Job Previews on Employees Job Satisfaction
Abstract
Reasonable occupation review (RJP) is the presentation of data both positive and
negative given to the forthcoming representative about the occupation and the
association. The data gave is expected to give the practical picture of the association.
The part of the data stream is to touch base at a phase where the desires of the
representative and the candidate match. It is being contended that representatives
who are given RJP s amid the enlistment and determination process have higher

It is made helpful by utilizing both formal and casual techniques. Its convenience
can be surveyed if the association discovers workforce, which coordinates its

(Kecia, and Gail, 1999). One of the striking elements of an enlistment procedure is
the capacity to influence an applicant (Quinetta, Collins and Oreg, 2005). It
imparts looked for after and ugly parts of the employment to the occupation
candidate before he/she makes a choice to acknowledge the occupation offer

Nell et al., 2001). It is meant to guarantee that gainful and able candidates must join
the association with a long haul responsibility to the association (Champnoise,
2004). It is normal that a great job practical sneak peak can help in lessening the
turnover and the employing cost (O Nell et al., 2001). RJPs are proposed to give
practical employment data. On the off chance that the data is excessively negative,
then it would withhold the possibility to join the association (Quinetta, Collins, and

the excessively positive data is unsafe for an association (Morse, 2007). RJPs are

the western Christianity and philosophy. However, in the east his teaching was not

The Constitutional Convention Of Philadelphia Signed The...
Delegates to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia signed the United States
Constitution on September 17, 1787. Designed to replace the weak Articles of

of the different branches of government. The Constitution also includes the Bill of

expansion and reduction of the powers of national government. Today, the United

How Does Evslin Use Literary Devices In Pygmalion
In the myth Pygmalion by Bernard Evslin, Pygmalion is a passionate sculptor who
has an unconditional love for the goddess of love, sex, and beauty, Aphrodite.
Throughout Evslin s myth, he uses literary devices to demonstrate Pygmalion s
unwavering devotion to perfection and beauty. In the beginning of the story,
Pygmalions devotion to love, specifically towards Aphrodite is displayed through
repetition. During their interactions, Pygmalion exhibits his feeling towards the
goddess by using repetition to express that he loves her and no one else, Yours,
Aphrodite. Yours, yours. I love you and you alone (1). When Pygmalion says I love
you and you alone , he is using repetition of the word you to emphasize his dedication
to her and no other womanin the world. There are many scenes in the myth in which
repetition is used for this purpose but a few stand out amongst them all. Another
instance that this literary device is used is while Pygmalion is explaining why he
must carve Aphrodite into a marble statue. He is responding to Aphrodite s
questions when he states, Of you, of course! Of you, of you! I told you that I have
loved you all my life without ever having seen you (2). For the same reasons as the

abused for their mood altering effects and it is mostly common amongst young
children and adolescents. These are definitely common everyday life tools and
materials and people do not typically think of them as drugs. Some drugs commonly
associated with the terms substance abuse are cocaine, ecstasy, alcohol,
amphetamines, nicotine, opiates and
It s Time to Make Drugs Legal for Personal Use Essay
It s Time to Make Drugs Legal for Personal Use
Drugs are such a controversy and people have such strong opinions about whether
they should be legal or illegal. I don t have a strong opinion on this topic; I m easily
swayed. For the most part though, I think that they should be legalized because
people do it anyways and if they were legal the government could regulate their use
and sale more, the government should be receiving the profits of the drug business
rather than dealers, marijuana has most of the same effects as cigarettes, and it s
been proven over and over how prohibition doesn t seem to work.
Each year, the government wastes $20 billion dollars on the war against drugs, but it
doesn t seem to do any good (Liberty For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most important thing for me is that people do it anyways; they always have and
most likely always will. Drug prohibition has not stopped 30 million people from
trying cocaine and 60 million people from trying marijuana. Prohibition also has
not stopped the number of heroin users from increasing by 150% and the number
of cocaine users from increasing by 10,000%. Moreover, prohibition has not kept
drugs out of the hands of children: in 1988 54% of high school seniors admitted to
having tried illicit drugs; 88% said it was fairly easy or very easy to obtain
marijuana: and 54% said the same about cocaine (Boaz 229). Nobody can deny
these facts, and these are even facts from the times where the war on drugs was
passing stricter laws. None of the laws seemed to make a difference accept if you get
caught with drugs, you have a longer sentence. The sentence for marijuana possession
usually averages longer than a murder sentence. I really don t think it s worse to have
marijuana than kill another human being; that doesn t even begin to make sense to me.
I think that, like many other things in history, drugs will someday be legal. I mean
coffee, gin, and tobacco all used to be illegal, but now all are in regular use in the
United States. The Netherlands, who is the only country I know to legalize
marijuana, surprisingly has a lower percentage of 10th graders who have tried
marijuana when compared to the United States. Maybe people wouldn t do it
Hegemonic Masculinity In Contemporary Hollywood
ABSTRACT
Hyper masculinity, defined as the exaggeration of physical strength, aggression and
sexuality that essentializes masculinity (Mosher Sirkin, 1984), appears to be a
prevalent feature of contemporary science fiction films in Hollywood in the year
2000s. The films ability to influence the masses lies in its ability to reach many
people at the same time, thus transcending boundaries of time and space. Since the
American film industry is a dominant force in world television (Tudor, 2013), the
portrayals of masculinity in contemporary Hollywood sci fi films have the potential
to penetrate the minds of people around the world, across different time zones.
In this paper, we argue that contemporary Hollywood sci fi films perpetuate

Although The Matrix Reloaded (2003) is more dated than The Incredible Hulk
(2008), it is highly relevant to this discourse on masculinity as it offers a starkly
contrasting image of masculinity that is not founded upon essentialist notions of
physical strength, aggression and sexuality. Furthermore, since The Matrix Reloaded
(2003) achieved third place in the international box office, its popularity demonstrates
society s receptivity to alternative portrayals of
Use Of Diction In Alice Walker s Short Stories
Chanique Hardy Author Study Alice Walker; a civil/woman s right activist of the
1970s, use of diction in multiple works portrays her theme of the struggles and
heroism of African American women. She touches on political, sexual, racial, and
counter cultural issues in the 1970s from a womanist point of view especially in
her book In Love and Trouble Stories of Black Women. Throughout her life she has
worked as a social worker, teacher, author, and a poet as well. Coming from a rough
background, Walker can relate in different ways to most of her stories. In Walker s
book of short stories In Love and Trouble she tells 13 different stories. The stories
are in order to show progression with different situations of the struggles of black
women that repeat, alternate and overlap. For example she touches on situations
of sibling rivalries, conflict of racism, and the feelings of loneliness. The words
love and trouble both hint towards unexpected things like certain problems and
inevitable predicaments that come with love. In stories like Everyday Use Walker
uses her experience with sibling rivalry to tell a story. When Walker was younger;
her and her brothers were playing a game of cowboys, and they accidently shot her
in the right eye with a BB gun causing her to go completely blind in that eye. In

Application Of Vehicle Communication Network
1.Introduction
Since the market demands varied over the last 30 years, automotive manufacturers
have been focusing on improving users driving experience for a long period while
developing advanced electronic based technologies, with respect to requirements such
as convenience, safety, fuel efficiency and etc. However, with more functions
achieved, a large quantity of wires individually connected to different electronical
control units(ECUs) needs to be involved in order to transfer signals from sensors to
ECUs, thus making the entire vehicle system significantly complex, heavy, costly and
less reliable. This issue was foreseen by engineers and could not be solved properly
until the introduction of vehicle communication network in which ECUs
interchanges information alone the bus with much less wirings required. Within the
following sections, in order to ensure accuracy for final investigation result, a Toyota
Prius 2012 model is chosen for researching on how information required is processed
by each control unit after being detected by those related sensors. Based upon
investigation mentioned, discussion on benefits of using in vehicle network will be
further taken with respect to weight and cost savings.

This section identifies a number of sensors used by different types of ECU and
briefly discusses information each ECU requires for different uses.

Michael Morris Case
On 2/16/18, at approximately 1941, I responded to 1241 Lake Lucerne Cir, Winter
Springs, Seminole County in reference to a battery. Upon arrival I spoke to
Michael Morris (victim w/m 12/23/1977) and Heather Morris (witness w/f 07/01

Michael in their driveway. Speaking with Michael he reported the following; that
Scott knocked on his door and immediately went out to the middle of the yard
telling him to come outside he wanted to talk. Michael went to put on his shoes and
asked Heather to call law enforcement, but she responded and said there is no need,
he just wants to talk to you . Michael proceeded to go towards Scott, who at this time
was now near the road on his motorcycle. Michael advised me that Scott ran up to
him and tackled him to the ground. Michael stated that punches were thrown and he
was able to turn Scott around placing him in a choke hold, until Scott calmed down.
Michael attempted to get up and Scott grabbed at his neck causing scratches. Michael
admitted to kicking Scott in the head twice attempting to separate. Michael provided

Introduction What is Animal Cloning? It is defined as a cell, group of cells, or an
organism that is produced asexually from and is identical to a single ancestor. Cloning
is also known as the nuclear cloning methodology using the nuclear transfer in
early 1950 s. Animal Cloning was first tried in amphibians. The main problem in
animal cloning up to this time is the efficiency of the process, how effective it is for
us. The current efficiency of Nuclear Transfer is poor. The product of nuclear

Trough the process of nuclear transfer (NT), cloning can be done. But up to present,
nuclear transfer is still inefficient. Lots of physiological malfunctions can happen,
high losses throughout gestation, during birth and in the post natal period through
adulthood are the high concerns of NT. Many of the pregnancy losses relate to the
failure of the placenta to develop and function normally in the case of cloned animals.
These problems are probably because of the epigenetic reprogramming of the genome,
leading to improper patterns of gene expression during the development of clones.
Same as some physiological tests, the surviving clones suggests normality and other
indicates post natal clone associated abnormalities. Nuclear cloning methodology is
considered to have the greatest potential for the success in animal agriculture and
medicine. This study shows the description of the current efficiency and applications
of cloning, as well as the current limitations of its technology that is affecting the
welfare, as with the health of the cloned
How Stress Management Techniques And Relaxation
Methods...
When examining which topic I should choose for this final paper I had to do a lot
of thinking and figure out which topic would be most relevant to me. This was a
challenging question for so many of these topics could relate to me and I would have
a lot of information towards them. I narrowed it down and decided to pick the topic
of stress management. Specifically, how stress management techniques and
relaxation methods can help patients sufferingfrom chronic pain. How effective are
these tactics? How do they compare to traditional pharmacological approaches to
pain management? I believe that this is an interesting topic and have learned a lot
about myself in regards toward stress management and different types of coping
techniques. This is a paper that is very informative and beneficial in many ways for it
has helped me examine the health benefits of the different types of stress
management techniques.
When examining my life I had to figure out how does this topic relate to me, but
then I realized that this does not relate to me, but it relates to someone who is near
and dear to me. This person who I am talking about is my mother and she has
actually been going through chronic pain after she had an accident and this has
affected her life for almost 5 years now. I will explain what had happened to my
mother and where she is today. It was about 5 years ago and my mother, father, and
brother were at a car dealership waiting to get our car fixed, so this was a basic routine
The Reasons Why We Love Xiaomi Mi Max
The Reasons Why We Love Xiaomi Mi Max.
There was a time when people having Chinese mobile phones were dreaming about
smartphones. But nowadays, Chinese mobiles are offering much better smartphone
experience at much lesser cost than those expensive ones. Xiaomi is one of the
brands that made this possible. While considering a Chinese phone, Xiaomi has
became the first choice of many Indians.
Xiaomi Mi Max launch event
Xiaomi has recently launched its new smartphones named as Xiaomi Mi Max on
Thursday 30 June, 2016 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi. And what a horrible
product launch it was! Xiaomi has been the tradition to invite Mi fans to the
launching events in China and recently in India as well. Here in Delhi, similar Mi
fans were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A higher end version of Mi Max is expected to come with octa core Snapdragon 652
SoC, 128 GB of storage space and 4 GB of RAM soon.
The phone runs on a modified version of Android Marshmallow that called as MIUI
7 which is quite similar used in MI 5 earlier. And this phone can be upgradeable to
MIUI 8 in coming months.
Performance
The phone is pretty stable and functional for ideal smartphone users. Most of the
apps works fine on the Snapdragon 650 SoC processor. The Xiaomi has its own
music player to give a better musical experience for hard core music lovers. The
audio quality with headphones is pretty good but the mono speaker doesn t provide
that great music experience at all. Incorporation of stereo speakers could have solved
this issue but this is missing in it, which is not good.
The camera of Mi Max is 16 megapixel at rear and is capable of 4k video recording.
The front have a 5 megapixel camera with capability to record 720p videos. The
quality of camera is good even in low light.
The battery life of Mi Max is boosted with 4850 mAh battery which last easily for
upto 2 days even after frequent use.
Essay on the American Dream Revised in Song of Solomon
The American Dream Revised in Song of Solomon
America was founded on the belief that all men are created equal. However, a
question must be posed which asks who constitutes men and what is equal ? Africans
were taken from their country and enslaved in America. They had to fight to retain
dignity and grace in circumstances that were deplorable. Even slaves who were well
taken care of were not able to realize the dream of being free again.
In her work, Song of Solomon, Toni Morrison relates a story of the dream of
Milkman. Although he is not a slave, Milkman is enslaved by the fact that as a child,
he was forced to participate in a shameful act that he wanted no part of. Even his
nickname was derived from this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of letting the situation be and making apologies, He comes to me with some
way out tale of how come and why (76). Milkman did not want to participate in this
discussion, but he had no choice.
Milkman must go on a difficult journey. He was never a slave. His family has
money and education; however, Milkman is not satisfied. He longs to be
connected to his past. He leaves everything behind to discover his roots, and his
journey, though it leads to his death, is accomplished for he is free. His dream has
been reached, but he cannot reap its benefits. Milkman cannot enjoy the success he
shares with his family until he finds his people from the South. He retraces the
history that he gathered from his family and recounts it to his people in Georgia
where he discovers more truth and more myths. This revisiting of his roots is a
characteristic of Africans, even if they are not direct descendants of Africa. Their
dream cannot be accomplished until they are sure where their people belonged
centuries before the recent generations existed.
Pilate is a prime example of not existing in a traditional family setting. When their
father died, Macon and Pilate were separated and sent to live with relatives or, in
Pilate s case, live a nomadic life traveling from place to place. They had no contact
with each other because of a disagreement that occurred a few days after their father
was murdered. Pilate
Examples Of Cordelia In King Lear
In the novel of King Lear some of the major characters had to sacrifice what they
loved the most in order to show that they valued it. People sometimes have to make
sacrifices in order for people to finally value what they let go. One of the characters
that sacrificed something or someone was Cordelia. In the novel of King Lear,
Cordelia had to sacrifice the loveof his father the one who gave her live in order to
show that she valued him. Even though King Lear did not see it that way, Cordelia
had a really big affection towards her father. For example, Cordelia told her father
that she loved him like daughter loves her father nothing less or nothing more. As a
consequence, King Lear thought that she was saying that she did not love him

Importance of Seasons in Kawabata s Snow Country
In his novel Snow Country, Yasunari Kawabata depicts a relationship between two
people in the mountainous region of Japan. Shimamura, a businessman from Tokyo,
visits a village in the snow country and develops a relationship with Komako, a
geisha in that village. Their relationship is the central focus of the novel, as it changes
each time Shimamura leaves for Tokyoand returns. Kawabata uses the changing of
the seasons to reflect these changes in relationship. Since the novel is set in the snow
country, the seasons have specific characteristics, and these parallel the relationship
between the two central characters. Spring is a time of new beginnings in the snow

In the snow country, spring is a time when people can re enter the world as the
snow that has engulfed their houses for the cold winter months begins to melt
away. It is a time when rains bring tiny sprouts of plants that have been forgotten
because the snow has covered them for so long. These new beginnings and
rebirths in nature are reflected in the relationship between Shimamura and
Komako. Shimamura sees Komako in the same way as the new sprouts budding
up from the ground, as an unspoiled creature that has just surfaced. He considers
Komako an amateur and refers to her as clean . Thus, he feels he needs to look out
for the new seed to make sure she grows safely. His protecting nature and her
dependence on him form the foundation of the friendship that develops as the
initial relationship between the two. Shimamura, however, had labeled her an
amateur and, after a week in the mountains during which he had spoken to almost
no one, he found himself longing for a companion. It was therefore friendship
more than anything else that he felt for the woman. His response to the mountains
had extended itself to cover her. (23) Shimamura views Komako as a new seed, yet
as spring progresses, seeds begin to grow with the help of spring rain. These seeds
will grow and by fall or winter, become a new tree or flower. In Shimamura and
Komako s relationship, the dependency that Komako had on Shimamura fades as

Influential People Essay

  • 1. Influential People Essay Crafting an essay on the theme of influential people poses a multifaceted challenge that extends beyond the conventional boundaries of essay writing. The difficulty lies not only in the need for meticulous research and articulate expression but also in the subjective nature of influence itself. Selecting individuals who have left a lasting impact on society demands a keen understanding of historical, cultural, and personal contexts. The task requires a delicate balance between presenting well-known figures and shedding light on those whose influence might be overlooked. Navigating through the vast sea of potential subjects, ranging from political leaders to cultural icons, demands careful consideration and the ability to discern the depth of their impact. This complexity adds layers to the writing process, urging the author to delve into the intricacies of each individual's contributions and legacy. Moreover, the challenge is heightened by the need to convey the significance of their influence, not just narrate their biographies. Analyzing the ripple effect these figures have had on their respective fields and society as a whole requires critical thinking and a nuanced approach to storytelling. Assembling these aspects into a coherent and engaging essay demands more than just the ability to articulate thoughts; it necessitates the skill to weave a compelling narrative that captivates the reader. A successful essay on influential people transcends a mere list of achievements and delves into the nuances of character, challenges faced, and the lasting imprint on the world. In conclusion, the difficulty in writing an essay on influential people stems from the intricate web of historical, cultural, and personal considerations. • 2. Italian Fascism Research Paper The conclusion of World War I and the subsequent negotiation of the Treaty of Versailles set the stage for Italian Fascism to rise. Despite being a member of the victorious Allies, sacrificing over 650,000 Italian lives in the war effort, Italy was nonetheless awarded very little in the Treaty of Versailles. In addition to the high cost paid in human lives, Italy was also left with a sizable debt as a result of the war. But, perhaps most important, however, to understanding the rise of Italian Fascism was the return of the disenchanted WWI veterans who would later become the perpetrators of the political violence in advance of the Fascist cause. Many of the Italian veterans bemoaned the lack of patriotism within Italy, blaming the Italian... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Eliyahu M. Goldratt s The Goal Alex Rogo in the novel The Goal, by Eliyahu M. Goldratt faces many issues when trying to save his failing plant. He has three months to turn the failing plant around. Rogo is on the verge of losing his job for having an unproductive plant. He is constantly dealing with emergencies at the plant because has a large backlog of customer orders, long lead times, angry customers and significant amounts of work in process inventory sitting around the plant. He has very expensive, up to date, supposedly extremely productive robots on his factory floor but something is not working correctly or the plant would not be failing like it is. Rogo wants and needs to improve his plant productivity. Rogo consultants with an old friend Jonah and ultimately... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Rogo sells an item from inventory, he is selling an asset, which was valued at full cost. The plant increased the production of the bottlenecks and shipped 3 million dollars in orders during the second month. Labor costs were then unchanged, so labor, depreciation, and utility costs should remain constant. Bill Peach then told Rogo to increase these profits by 15%, which means to keep the plant open, he would need additional money. Rogo figured out the correct pricing so if material costs were 344 dollars per unit, and a 1,000 dollar sales price, an additional 208 units would be sufficient to reach the target and the factory would ultimately stay open and he would not lose his job and hundreds of workers would not be out of work
  • 4. Zen Buddhism And The Zen School Zen Buddhism originated from Chinese Ch an Buddhism that was transmitted to Japan. The Zen school was known as one of the many Buddhist religion in Japan. In Japan, Zen is defined as the buddha mind, ...the ultimate reality, or emptiness, of all things and the enlightened state, or knowledge of that reality, characteristic of a buddha (Bielefeldt 1995: 198). Zenemphasizes on the insight into the Buddha nature through seated meditation(zazen), meditation practice, and teacher sudden interaction. Zazen was understood as an expression of the Buddha nature. Zen Buddhism, focus on a separate transmission outside scripture, not depend on words or letters, a school based solely on the teaching of Bodhidharma, which points directly at the person s mind, enabling one to see his own nature and become a budhha ( Bielefeldt 2002: 5). The teaching of Zen was divided into two distinct monastic schools: The Northern school (Shen hsiu) and the Southern school (Hui neng). This paper will show that the difference between the teaching of Gradual and Sudden have affected the way people traditionally perceive enlightenment through the Northern school and Southern school of teaching and Shen hui criticism of the Northern school practice. Buddhism is the teaching of enlightenment and to achieve enlightenment is the reason why people practice this religion. Enlightenment refers to a singular, intense experience of insight that one has achieved self realization. One who attains a state of
  • 5. H Capsulatum Research Paper H. capsulatum is a dimorphic fungal pathogen that thrives in its mycelial phase in soil containing high concentrations of bird or bat guano, and every year hundreds of thousands of individuals who live in areas of endemicity are infected1,2. Though found worldwide, histoplasmosis is primarily a disease of North and Central America that is generally asymptomatic in healthy persons but may be fatal in immunosuppressed individuals2. Infection occurs by inhalation of small mycelial fragments or microconidia into the terminal bronchioles and alveoli of the lung. Inhaled conidia are phagocytosed by macrophages and the change in temperature from 250C to 370C induces the transformation into the yeast phase, which is responsible for the pathogenesis of histoplasmosis3 5.... The immediate host response is the stimulation of the macrophage s microbicidal properties: oxidative stress, acidic pH, degradative stress caused by hydrolytic enzymes present in the lysosome, and nutrient (zinc and iron) deprivation6,7. Despite the harsh intracellular environment of the macrophage, H. capsulatum has evolved various mechanisms to evade destruction by the macrophage8. Inhaled yeasts can travel via the lymph nodes to the liver and spleen and cause disseminated infection. There activated macrophages and other host components surround the infected cells forming a circular wall of aggregated inflammatory cells or granuloma6,9. The granuloma functions to inhibit H. capsulatum growth and replication by restricting access to oxygen and nutrients and exposing the fungi to acidic pH and other immune effectors10,11. However, the fungus within the granuloma may also benefit from this isolated microenvironment. The granuloma may provide shelter from destruction by the host, and can serve as the source from which surviving pathogens emerge during reactivation of latent
  • 6. Change In William Faulkner s A Rose For Emily A Rose for Emily : Change is painful, but nothing is as painful as someone being stuck somewhere they don t belong. In William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily, Emily Grierson is a woman who is reluctant to conform to the adjusting South; with everything around her growing and becoming modern, Emily is faced with some difficult circumstances after her father passes away that allow her to finally be in control of her life. One of which, leaves the townspeople to find her poisoned, cold fiancГ© stiff in her bed and one of her gray hairs nestled softly beside him. The cliche quote, the more things change, the more they stay the same reflects how Faulkner demonstrates that some individual s response to change is unpleasant, but their unwillingless attitude stays.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the beginning of the story, Emily is confronted by the community after her tax notice is not received, and she responds, I have no taxes in Jefferson (122). This is the first time Faulkner allows the audience to experience how stubborn Miss Emily is in her ways and how she is customary to the life before the amendments of the town. Her residence is a big plantation home and inherites wealth that is passed down from her father. Although the Civil War is recently over and the Emmancipation Proclamation has been addressed, she continues to control Toby, her slave. This demonstrates that she doesn t want to adapt to the blossoming town around her and how she wants to stay in traditional times. When her father passes away, it takes three days for the community to persuade her to allow them to take his body from her: She told them that her father was not dead (123). Later in the story, postal services become popular, but Emily, being accustomed, refuses to take part in this modern activity, being stuck in her normal
  • 7. What A Woman Is Not Born, By Simone De Beauvoir Essay One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman. French existentialist writer, Simone de Beauvoir, states in The Second Sex (1949), powerful analysis of what a woman should be in the West. She goes into detail on how femininity is a social construct and was constructed for the male gaze, the patriarchy (Nigel Warburton, 2014). This is an argument in both Sandra Lee Bartky s Foucault, Femininity, and the Modernization of Patriarchal Power, according to her, you are born into your gender, not the characteristics of it (2010, 27). And in Rosalind Gill s Supersexualize Me!: Advertising and the Midriffs , she discusses how advertisements are a major factor in shaping our views on what is masculine and feminine (2007, 95). In this essay, I will compare each chapters arguments, this includes power and femininity and who is to blame for disciplining women s bodies to fit a narrow spectrum of femininity; and the similarities of the arguments when discussing how femininity is being shown in the size, movement and appearance of a women s body and how they both reject societal meanings of femininity. As for the first difference, power and femininity are shown in very different lights. Gill argues that women in our modern media portray a form of sexual power , which is an active subject for the male gaze (2007, 100). She discusses the shift of society s definition of femininity from child like passive individuals to an active sexual subject for the male gaze. And when portrayed as
  • 8. Book Review over Washington s Spies Essay The Truth About Washington s Spies Madeline Carlson America s first spy ring, better known as the Cupler ring, was Washington s carefully thought out solution to gain intelligence on the overpowering British troops. The revolution was happening; there was no turning back and no denying that America was going to gain independence from Great Britain. Washington needed a plan, a way to foresee what the British planned to do next. Washington s only solution was to resort to spying. Washington desperately needed to gain intelligence of General William Howe s next plan of attack, however there were few who wanted to risk partaking in such a dishonorable task as spying. The tales show anything from the exciting tales of close encounters to the invisible ink and coded messages to the life of deception Washington s spies embraced. Rose not only reveals the exciting tales of danger, but also shows how the deceptive spies and Washington gained mutual trust through the difficult situations. Rose s thesis statement declared how honor affected the spies who were a part of the Culper ring. He first mentioned honor in the first chapter, quoting Nathan Hale, Spying, he agreed, was not an honorable undertaking, but if the exigencies of my country demand a peculiar service its claims to perform that service are imperious. The spying game was not considered gentlemen s work, for the title spy was dishonorable in itself. Throughout the book, Rose proved his thesis by mentioning how it affected each of the members described in his book along with some internal conflict they had about it. Rose concluded the book with an epilogue sharing how each of the spies lived their lives after the war was over, and how many could return to their normal lives without the criticism of partaking in Washington s dishonorable tasks. Rose s tales evaluated how the individuals themselves, in a way, altered history. Each individual in the Culper ring motivated history and altered what could have been in some way. Whether Nathan Hale s death made him a revolutionary hero, or Benjamin Tallmadge s idea of the Culper ring each
  • 9. Japan Population Growth Declining Birth Rate and the Problems a) Study a country on how and why its population has aged rapidly during the last 40 or 50 years, and analyze its consequences. Japan s graying population: The reasons behind it, steps taken to curb it and the implications of an aging society Introduction Japan has seen rapid development from the times of Meiji Restoration (1868) up till today. In fact, it has grown more rapidly than any other countries from 1870 to 1994 (Nafziger,1995) because of the various economic policies its government had undertaken after the war ended. Thus, as a result of this economic growth, standard of living has gone up and along with technological advancements, Japan enjoys one of the highest life expectancy compared to any other countries in the world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another reason is the economic recession. The economy was bad for Japan throughout the 1990s. The unemployment rate rose sharply from 2% in 1990 to 5% in 2003(Suzuki, 2006). Youth was not given an opportunity to work and those who did obtain a stable job decreased from 77.8% in 1988 to 55.8% in 2004 and that those who obtained no job or a temporary job went up from 9.4% to 24.6% during the same period. The proportion proceeding to higher education increased from 6.5% to 11.8% meaning that starting a family will be delayed. . Suzuki also mentioned that the low income of young men relative to their fathers discouraged marriage. Previously, the income of men in their 30s were more than that of their fathers and motivated women to marry them. Current trends, however, indicated that the relative income of young men to old men has declined substantially and young men are less appealing as marriage partners than before. Problems with an aging society One of the issues with an ageing society is that the dependency ratio of the country will increase. Dependency ratio refers to the number of persons under age 15 plus persons aged 65 or older per one hundred persons 15 to 64. It is the sum of the youth dependency ratio and the old age dependency ratio. This means that as the society ages, more young people are tasked
  • 10. Learning Is A Key Component Of Human Development Learning is a crucial component of human development; learning helps people understand past mistakes and progress in both their personal and professional lives. Children would remain stagnant if they did not learn which is why it is important to take the time to understand human methods of learning, and develop ways to enhance the learningprocess. In my reflection journal I will address at least two main points from the weekly reading from Contemporary Theories of Learning (Illeris, 2009) and Emotional Intelligence(Goleman, 2005). In addition I will include my personal connection and application for each point. In Contemporary Theories of Learning, Illeris defined learning as any process that in living organisms leads to permanent capacity change and which is not solely due to biological maturation or ageing (Illeris, 2009). I found this definition interesting, because learning by his definition is centered on change and the learning that typically takes place in our school systems are not centered on change; they are centered on memorizing facts by rote memorization. When I attended a semester at Calvary Chapel Bible College in Murrieta California, one of my professors discussed that there are five different types of learning levels, including rote, recognition, restatement, relation, and realization. After reviewing these five levels, I noticed that the actual change does not occur until the realization stage where the individual understands the information
  • 11. Age Related Macular Degeneration ( Amd ) Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is a clinical condition in which there is a progressive decrease in central vision. There are two forms of macular degeneration, dry/nonexudative and wet/exudative, and these differ in fundal findings and treatment options. Dry macular degeneration is due to accumulation of drusen between the retinal pigment epithelium and Bruch s membrane and eventually progresses to geographic atrophy. Geographic atrophy refers to loss of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and photoreceptors. Wet macular degeneration, comprising up to 80% of cases of macular degeneration, is due to neovascularization forming choroidal neovascular membranes, which are unstable vessels leading to an array of complications including... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One important direction of research was the association drawn between complement Factor H and macular degeneration, which proposed that macular degeneration could be considered a much broader systemic vascular disease. Factor H is a glycoprotein that aids in the inhibiting the activation of the alternate pathway to prevent the host from activating the immune response towards self antigens. The association between factor H and macular degeneration is so great that a homozygous single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) can increase the risk of developing age related macular degeneration by seven fold and even a heterozygous SNP can increase the risk two to three fold. Furthermore, deletions in the genes for complement factor H related 1 and 3, which compete with factor H for binding sites, have been demonstrated to protect against age related macular degeneration by increasing the amount of binding sites available for complement factor H to bind to the vasculature. Factor H has even been shown to be actively synthesized by the RPE; gene products were generated from cultured RPE and real time RT PCR established that transcripts for factor H were abundant in the RPE. The association is even clearer when clinically examining patients with Membranoproliferative Glomerulonephritis II in which there is a deficiency in factor H. These patients develop early onset drusen on fundal examination. Most importantly, the association found between factor H and AMD stirred

  • 13. A Brief Note On The Civilian Aerospace Industry Essay Introduction: The civilian aerospace industry comprises firms that produce aircraft and firms that parts of these aircraft. The most commonly produced civilian transport airliners range from smaller turboprop aircraft to larger wide body jets. Other types aircraft are produced in much smaller quantities and include two seat leisure aircraft, corporate jets, and civilian helicopters. Consumers of the American aircraft include the US government, airline companies, cargo transportation companies, and various private businesses. Aircraft manufacturers contract with these firms to produce aircraft. These manufacturers often subcontract with smaller companies for specific components such as engines and electronics. The limited amount of aircraft contracts and large economies of scale in aircraft production has led the civilian aerospace industry to be dominated by a few large firms. The United States is home to most of the major producers in the civil aerospace industry, notably the Boeing Company, United Technologies, and General Electric. Due to the complexity of certain aircraft parts, subcontractor firms specialize to only produce those components. For example, companies such as General Electric and the United Technologies Corporation specialize in the production of aircraft engines. These parts are then sold to companies like Boeing and incorporated into the airframe to produce a complete aircraft. Notable foreign competitors include the European Aeronautic Defence and

By the 1970s clear mythic representations of black males had been established and were defined by Stuart Hall as three stereotypes; the subordinate slave , the unlawful slave and the clown/entertainer . These representations of black males have been seen time after time and so they have become hegemonic and unquestioned by society to the extent that white audiences believe they are entirely accurate and true to life. In the 1980s was the Era of Hollywood Conservative Backlash Creation of Crossover Black Stars which saw a decline in Black film. Then in the late 1980s and early 1990s black film started to become prominent again with the showcasing of films by Black directors, such as Spike Lee and John Singleton, as well as Black actors. There were several different angles that these films used; films such as Malcolm X which promoted black history; inner city movies such as Boyz n the Hood which attempted to portray life in the ghetto; and Black Middle Class films. The stereotypes of these films link to Stuart Hall s theory of the three stereotypes; the subservient slave: black sidekicks to a white hero; the unlawful slave: these are shown in many inner city films often known as Gangsploitation

He called it Principle Centered Leadership (2000, p. 13). The seven habits as described by Dr. Covey are: 1. Be proactive 2. Begin with the end in mind 3. Put first things first 4. Think win/win 5. Seek first to understand... then to be understood 6. Synergize 7. Sharpen the Shaw The attached profile sheet reflects a panoramic view of my alignment to some of those principles. The seven habits are a way of thinking, living and doing that is consistent (Harvey, 2015) with what Covey describes as Principle centered living (Covey, 2000, p. 59). My score in this category was 12 out of 18 possible points. This score places me slightly above average, which means I keep a very small balance in my emotional bank account. As a leader, I need to do a better job at keeping a higher balance between my emotional deposits and withdrawals by, for example, apologizing more often when I make a mistake, and offend a friend or colleague, including my own subordinates. The second category measured by the seven habits profile sheet is Life balance ,

How Does Evslin Use Literary Devices In Pygmalion In the myth Pygmalion by Bernard Evslin, Pygmalion is a passionate sculptor who has an unconditional love for the goddess of love, sex, and beauty, Aphrodite. Throughout Evslin s myth, he uses literary devices to demonstrate Pygmalion s unwavering devotion to perfection and beauty. In the beginning of the story, Pygmalions devotion to love, specifically towards Aphrodite is displayed through repetition. During their interactions, Pygmalion exhibits his feeling towards the goddess by using repetition to express that he loves her and no one else, Yours, Aphrodite. Yours, yours. I love you and you alone (1). When Pygmalion says I love you and you alone , he is using repetition of the word you to emphasize his dedication to her and no other womanin the world. There are many scenes in the myth in which repetition is used for this purpose but a few stand out amongst them all. Another instance that this literary device is used is while Pygmalion is explaining why he must carve Aphrodite into a marble statue. He is responding to Aphrodite s questions when he states, Of you, of course! Of you, of you! I told you that I have loved you all my life without ever having seen you (2). The most important thing for me is that people do it anyways; they always have and most likely always will. Drug prohibition has not stopped 30 million people from trying cocaine and 60 million people from trying marijuana. Prohibition also has not stopped the number of heroin users from increasing by 150% and the number of cocaine users from increasing by 10,000%. Moreover, prohibition has not kept drugs out of the hands of children: in 1988 54% of high school seniors admitted to having tried illicit drugs; 88% said it was fairly easy or very easy to obtain marijuana: and 54% said the same about cocaine (Boaz 229). Nobody can deny these facts, and these are even facts from the times where the war on drugs was passing stricter laws. None of the laws seemed to make a difference accept if you get caught with drugs, you have a longer sentence. The sentence for marijuana possession usually averages longer than a murder sentence. His family has money and education; however, Milkman is not satisfied. He longs to be connected to his past. He leaves everything behind to discover his roots, and his journey, though it leads to his death, is accomplished for he is free. His dream has been reached, but he cannot reap its benefits. Milkman cannot enjoy the success he shares with his family until he finds his people from the South. He retraces the history that he gathered from his family and recounts it to his people in Georgia where he discovers more truth and more myths.
