Concerto Grosso
Arcangelo Corelli, also known as Father of Concerto Grosso , was an Italian composer, violinist, and
teacher. Corelli was born in Fusignano, Italy on February 17, 1653 where he studied composing music
until the late 1670 s. Corelli s musical talents led him to enter the service of Queen Christina of
Sweden, Franceso II, Cardinal Pamphili, Cardinal Ottoboni, who was Pope Alexander VIII, and as the
court musician for the Prince of Bavaria. Corelli composed and dedicated music to his noble patrons.
Corelli built the notion of Concerto Grosso into an arrangement of secular entertainment for the noble
lords and ladies for various events. Corelli s layout of his Concerto Grosso was introducing two
groups of musicians to compete. Each group bestowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Corelli also used this concept in his teachings; especially to such composers like Francesco Geminiani
and Pietro Locatelli. Other composers such as Antonio Vivaldi and Bach studied Corelli s
compositions. Towards the end of his life, Corelli toured all over Europe and gained popularity.
Corelli died a famous and rich man on January 19, 1713. His compositions eventually gave him the
name Father of Concerto Grosso . The composition I chose from Corelli s works is his Christmas
Concerto, Concerto Grosso Opus 6, that made Corelli the prime of his time. Corelli s composition
consists of a small group of solo instruments against a larger group of instruments. This creates the
terrace dynamics in the composition. The beginning of the composition starts out with the two violins
playing on different beats slow. The slow tempo makes the conjunct melody have a smooth and
pleasing texture. Then the melody jumps to an allegro tempo that is fast paced and intense. The
composition s tempo has a slow fast slow movement throughout the whole piece. The fugal style
contains stressed rhythms and vocal delays are a perfect example of his built concept of Concerto

The Use of Turbine Blades in Generating Electricity Essay
The Use of Turbine Blades in Generating Electricity
Turbines are used in many different ways produce and generate electricity. They are used as gas
turbines, coal turbines and steam turbines. Each one has a different property, which makes it unique.
Airlines and cars generally run on gas turbines. Steam engines, ships and railway engines run on coal
turbines as coal produces a high amount of energy that enables them to run for long length of time
before adding more coal.
In order for these turbine s to operate well and efficiently with as little maintenance as possible, it is
necessary for the turbine s to have well constructed, well designed turbine blades. They have to have
certain properties that enable them to withstand high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to cope with the pressures of having to implement the need to be lightweight and
environmentally friendly, they have to improve the mechanical and thermal strength in order to match
keep up with the rising technology and competition.
Turbine blades have to be able to endure temperatures around and greater then 500OC, in order for
them to be useful. A reasonably lightweight alloy commonly used in the production of turbine blades
is an often a long SiC fibre reinforced titanium alloy for the highly mechanically loaded parts. By
using sputtering techniques followed by hot isostatic pressing cycles, the components then become
strengthened in comparison to conventional materials, which are manufactured.
These alloys are heavily researched to adapt to long term behaviour which the turbines and blades
undergo. These researches focuses on the durability of the turbines and degrading reactions at fibre
matrix interfaces as well as internal protective layers. This means that they test the materials under
extreme conditions e.g. high temperatures or duration periods, which will enable them to find the
stress points which will be more prone to damage than other areas as well as disintegration points.
By conducting these research experiments, engineers have been able to produce a fibre reinforced
material that is oxidation resistant (rusting) and damage tolerant for a long duration of time and for
temperature up to 1400OC,

The Importance Of Ece s To Create A Nurturing Environment
It is very important to create a nurturing environment for the refuge children, who are newcomers to
Canada, as they come from war zones where they have might have gone through loss and trauma. We
need to encourage and support their language learning and adjust to their new environment by being
sensitive to their needs. When the ECE s provide a loving, caring, understanding and nurturing
environment, we can build stronger positive relationship with the newcomer families and their
children, which will give the families confidence about their future in Canada, and help them settle
down and call this country their home (Sophie, 2010). Consistent nurturing and respectful relationship
between adults and children brings in great accomplishments. By providing a safe, loving, trusting and
encouraging environment, children grow in the direction of their interest builds a strong relationship

Sectionalism In The Early 1800s
The ideas of nationalism and sectionalism in the early 1800s played a large role in the presidential
elections leading up to the Civil War. Nationalism is when the population of a nation has love for their
country put their country first. Sectionalism is when the population identifies more with the ideals of
their region more than they identify with the nation as a whole. Please two ideas would become the
basis of the Missouri compromise, the Monroe doctrine, and this establishment of new political parties
in the United States during the early 1800s. The conflict between the ideas of nationalism and
sectionalism came in part from the practice of slavery. In the Missouri Compromise is a key example
of this the Missouri compromise Set boundaries

Differences Between Malcolm X And Martin Luther King
Government Approved Freedom
Despite both Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. actively fighting for freedom and equality during
the Civil Rights Movement, both men are not remembered equally. Undeniably, their approaches were
different which resulted in conflicting ideals and different outcomes. These differences are highlighted
through the comparison of Dr. King s Letter from Birmingham Jail to Malcolm X s speech of The
Ballot or the Bullet . Both Malcolm X and Dr.King advocated for change regarding the treatment of
the black community, but their perceptions of the timeline for change varied. Malcolm X was prepared
to abandon the current system and separate the black community entirely to achieve immediate
equality even if this called for violence. Whereas Dr. King advocated for all groups to think and act
differently for total equality and true freedom. Ultimately, Dr. King understood that for complete
change it might be a longer process, but he was willing to be respectful and encourage this movement
peacefully.
Considering the men sought different types of change to achieve their freedom, they had to target
different audiences to advocate their plans towards. As Martin Luther King Jr. desired change
throughout society and the systematic injustices, he had to target those who did not personally
experience his inequality, but would still listen and respect him. As a minister and admired man of
God, other church leaders were an ideal audience for Dr. King. He

Au Pair Essay
As of December 23, I have been an Au pair for 6 weeks and 9 days.
I have a great host family, with very friendly parents and two children, a three year old boy and one
year old girl.
Au Pair ing was a great way for me to start out traveling. Au pair experiences are different with
everyone. Different families, schedules, wages, etc. With my host family, I get two days off a week,
any two days that I want. Because I am staying near Orvieto, which is almost in the exact center of
Italy, I can visit almost anywhere that I want. I also got to meet up with other Au Pairs in Italy and
explore the Italian cities together. At the same time I made new friends.

Your duties should be very light as an Au Pair, remember, you are there for the kids. You are not a
nanny or housemaid. You can help out with other household duties if you wish, such as cleaning the
lawn and entire house, ironing clothes, etc. but they should not be required of you.
If you are an Au Pair for three months or longer, you need to have a language course that you and your
host family will work together and pay for. However, my language class did not turn out, so now I go
to the library whenever I can. All the other Au Pairs that I met also learn at home. Sometimes it can be
spendy, but there are a couple good ones online for free that I recommend. Duolingo is a great website
and easy to learn from with simple visuals and repetitive exercises.. Memrise is another website where
you can spend five minutes a day, learning a few new words and phrases each day.
This schedule doesn t always happen and changes everyday. Sometimes the family goes somewhere,
and I can come along or opt to stay home. All families are different. My host family for some reason
has a very busy lifestyle with no slow down and relax mode. There is always something going

The Music Of The Pop Music Scene
M.I.A. emerged in the Indie pop music scene in 2002. M.I.A., also known as Maya Arulpragasam,
began her career in 2000 as a visual artist and filmmaker. After recording a documentary for the band
Elastica, they suggested she go into the music industry. Rather than just make music, Arulpragasam
wanted to make a statement that would be impacted politically, socially, and culturally. She sings
about third world countries and issues, specifically Sri Lanka in her album Arular. Arulpragasam drew
from the discrimination she experienced while hiding with her family during the Sri Lankan Civil War
and the horror of the massacre of the Tamil people. Arular, pushes important notions about a third
world that has no voice in a first world indie music platform. Arulpragasam issues her mission
statement Pull up the people, pull up the poor , defining war in the simplest of terms: You no like the
people they no like you/Then they go set it off with a big boom (Thornburgh).
Arulpragasam pursued art as a child at various schools, such as the Holy Family Convent, so that she
could work her way up her class. Arulpragasam explains that the darker skinned kids sat at the back by
the poor ones who played out in the street all day long (Hopper). Being a Tamil, she had darker skin,
so she was on the back row. But because of her art skills, she became useful during projects because of
her art skills and was able to break from the discrimination of the backrow.

What made her special enough to have a 967 page poem about her? Where did she belong in the vast
life of Dante? Why has Dante chosen to paint this truly heavenly picture of her? How did she react to
this? The historical Beatrice was very probably Bice, daughter of Falco Portinari, (Madelbaum [IN]
320) so in reality Beatrice or Bice was really just a childhood neighbor of the Alighieri, who Dante
says he, immediately felt the foce of love for her upon first glance. (Alighieri [VN] 37) However love
at first sight is hardly the case here. They first laid eyes on each other at age nine, Dante being several
months older then Bice, however the twist comes when it isn t until almost nine years after this event
the first words are finally spoken between the two. Soon after this event the heavenly Bice married,
not Dante, but Simone di Bardi and then, sadly, died at a very young age.
What is it exactly that would make Dante write such an epic piece about someone who he never really
knew too well? It is said that, After the death of Beatrice, Dante entered, belatedly but voraciously, a
period of philosophical study. His motives were both the need for consolation and the restless, urban,
unecclesiastical curiosity that characterized one who was becoming the most complete intellectual of
his time. (Mandelbaum [IN] 321) So it is easily noticeable that there is some kind of connection
between Dante and Bice. Yet, is it possible that this affection was a one

The Total Rewards Program
Organization Overview
This paper will discuss the total rewards program. This company is a beverage and bottling company
that has been in business for over 100 years. Currently we operate in about 3 continents and in about
20 different countries all over the world. SZT Corp is the home to over 20,000 employees with about
2,000 management level employees worldwide.
Armstrong (2012) affirms that definitions of total rewards characteristically includes not only
traditional, quantifiable elements such as salary, variable pay and benefits but comprises also more
intangible non cash components such as gaining knowledge, ability to acquire and act or take
responsibility, progress in career, and the conducive environment provided by the organization. SZT
Corp requires a pretty complex and flexible total rewards program to meet the needs of their multi
national colleagues. The total rewards programs has to slightly vary for each country that SZT Corp
operates in and must cover compensation, benefits, performance and recognition, learning and
development, and a work life balance. SZT Corp has to maintain a total rewards program that remains
competitive with the competitors in the different nations all over the world.
Total Rewards Strategy
In order to meet the HR needs of this company, HR must accomplish the elements discussed in the
succeeding paragraphs that address the fundamentals of this type of total rewards system while

Essay Analysis of Cousin Kate by Christina Rossetti
Analysis of Cousin Kate by Christina Rossetti
Cousin Kate by Christina Rossetti describes a cottage maiden who was seduced and used by the lord
of the estate for which she worked. She was surprised and taken a back by the fact that someone so
great and powerful could be slightly interested in her, and so she automatically fell in love with him. It
wasn t until after he had slept with her that he left her for her cousin, Kate. The cottage maiden was
devastated that he had done that to her. She felt unclean and unwanted. The lord asked for Kate s hand
in marriage and she accepted.

Men would then look down on you in disgust, as would friends and family. The poem demonstrates
how a man can love a woman, then throw her away and move onto another as he pleases, and because
he was a Lord the cottage maiden could not say a thing. This brings into light the difference between
higher and lower class people. If the cottage maiden had said anything, people would not believe her
and turn a blind eye to her and to her accusations. According to the maiden, Kate s love was not real.
O cousin Kate my love was true, your love was writ in sand .
This tells us that Kate s love was going to disappear and was only a temporary emotion which was
later just blown away like writing in the sand, whilst the maiden s love was real. The maiden may just
be saying this for revenge against Cousin Kate to try and make herself feel better but we do not know.
The Lord s love towards the maiden was not real, His plaything and his love . Plaything and love are
two very different contrasts with each other. Did he really love her for a while or was it all just a game
to him? He used her and made her believe that he liked her then left her for Kate.
The maiden was infatuated by the Lord and fell in love with him instantly. He used this, his power and
his wealth against the maiden.
The Lord casts off the female once he meets Kate, who is fairer than the narrator. This shows that
males do not always get emotionally involved in

Pirates Of The Caribbean Analysis
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, directed by Gore Verbinski, is one of the most
influential pieces of cinema in the disney movie franchise. The movie was well received by the
majority of people that viewed it. However, not everyone was as impressed with the movie, like film
critic Roger Ebert for example. While Ebert, at the time working as a film critic for Chicago Sun
Times, gave the movie three stars, there are some critiques that are incredibly incorrect. The article
focuses a lot on the stellar performances of Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush, Jack Sparrow and
Barbossa respectively, while making light of the respectable performance of Keira Knightley as
Elizabeth Swann. He also spends a good segment of his review bashing the action scenes and deeming
them pointless based on the plot of the movie. Overall, Roger Ebert believes the movie was decent,
but went on for far too long, calling it, a nice little 90 minute B movie trapped inside the 143 minutes
of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (rogerebert.com). There is an argument to be
made about Roger Ebert s rollercoaster ride of a review on Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the

Media Piracy And Copyright Issues
Media piracy and copyright issues have been seen as a huge issue in the history of national and
international law. These issues have grown to greater concern up to this point in time because of the
advancements in technology, the ease of stealing information, and the accepting culture of copying,
sharing and redistributing copyright material. It has become a part of our daily lives like downloading
music from YouTube through third party sites, pirating movies from online websites through torrents
and torrent applications, or copying scripts off the internet for school productions. Since the beginning
of the rise in copyright and piracy issues, research has shown that Canada and the United States have
taken some similar and some different approaches these issues. The Canadian approach to copyright
and piracy issues is better because; provisions to copyright and media law over the last 3 centuries
have been beneficial for Canadians, content is under copyright for a number of years until it enters the
public domain which benefits creators and consumers, and these laws safeguard our information and
content with constant updates to provide protection against hacking, trafficking of personal info, and
piracy of digital content. To begin, some history and background information on the role Canada has
played in international copyright should set a stance on how involved Canada was from the late
eighteen hundreds to now. In the first part of Sara Bannerman s article, she reviews

Performance Management, Benefits and Service
Chapter 10: Performance Management:
(21 Oct 13)
According Dressler, assessment happens in the workplace of the organization in three different ways
depending on the situation, such as the following: Evaluation by the immediate supervisor: the
supervisor should be the best person to assess his or her employees, because of the supervisors of
these are directly related to the performance of the staff. As a result, it would be easy to evaluate the
performance of staff and gave the results of a large specific. The use of peer assessment: peer
assessment more accurate than their managers, because there is a relationship between bonds
immediate staff. This strategy gives the evacuation of better performance from their managers.
Committees Rating: prefer many employees are evaluated by committees, because it seems that the
rating committees more trustworthy, fair and compelling. Management s assessment of staff: managers
evaluate employees are not traditionally known in the workplace, but this idea has spread is between
the organization recently. This strategy gives workers the right to evaluate the managers where they
can feel that there is equality in the organization. As a result, it may increase the performance of
employees.

Comparing The French And The United States Political...
Comparison of the French and the United States Political Structures Marcy McNeal Snook POLS 241
Summer 2014 Incomplete Introduction Political culture is one of the defector concepts of
contemporary social science. Theorists have not provided a persuasive picture of its casual role
whereas analysts have not been able to do without it in explaining experimental results. Therefore,
political culture can combine with the political structure to create or maintain regime form. Political
structures are defined as the formal or informal political procedures through which decisions are made
regarding the usage, production and distribution of resources in any given community. Formal
political structures through its organizations can control processes such as election of leaders; parts
and tasks of the executive and administration; organization of political representation (through
political parties); and the obligation and oversight of the state. Informal and communal political
structures, customs and rules can work within or together with the formal political organizations. In
development, democratic political structures are seen to deliver prospects for all without
discrimination (Scott Mcloughlin, 2014). Before a state can produce, it must realize the social peace
that in turn ensures peaceful coexistence of the citizens. That social peace has been achieved in
different nations through different structures. Some of the structures have been rooted in business

Bounce-Personal Narrative
Bounce, bounce. Following with a big sigh. I sprinted to the back line of the court. I turned around.
Next I looked where I wanted my serve to go. No one had believed in me because I had never gotten
my serve over in practice or in a game. RING, RING, RING, RING. My alarm repeatedly got louder
and louder. I woke up. It was 6:30 in the morning. I was so mad because I thought that it was a normal
saturday. Then I realized that it was the last game of the season. I took out my uniform and my
spandex and put them on along with my socks. I did some stretches, sit ups and push ups before I ran
down stairs. I made myself 2 scrambled eggs and I piece of toast. I put butter on the bread and cheese

Spectrum Scarcity Problem Of Wide Band
Abstract Spectrum scarcity problems happen due to the spread of various wireless devices and
technologies engaging static frequency access and to cope up with this demand, Cognitive Radio is a
solution of enormous outlook. This article discusses spectrum scarcity problem in wide band. To solve
high sampling rate problems in wide band, compressive sensing is done here.A wide band signal is
passed through fading channels and then it is estimated using ℓ1 magic technique. Then receiver
operating characteristic curve of the evaluated signal is estimated.
Keywords: Fading channel,ℓ1 magic technique, receiver operating characteristic curve.
I.INTRODUCTION The expanding demand for wireless affinity and current congestion of unlicensed
spectra has pushed the authoritative agencies to be more hopeful in providing new paths to adopt
spectra [1]. The reason behind this is the increasing interest of consumers in wireless services which in
turn is driving the evolution of wireless networks toward high speed data networks [2]. The traditional
path to spectrum management is very immutable because each operator is acknowledged an exclusive
license to operate in a certain frequency band. Though, with most of the useful radio spectrum already
designated, it is becoming enormously tough to find unfilled bands to either utilize new services or
strengthen existing ones [3].

People’s Experiences of Death and Dying Are Profoundly...
Introduction
People s experiences of death and dying are profoundly affected by social and cultural differences.
Socio economic factors such as standard of living, economic infrastructure, diet, environmental
disasters, war, sexual pervasiveness, disease etc all interconnect to affect the way in which they frame
an individual s experience of death and dying. The unequal distribution of resource throughout the
world and the differing levels of food shortage, disease, war and natural disasters need to be taken into
account when considering how health care workers can improve the needs of people who are dying.
Culture, identity and personal beliefs all have a profound impact on an individual s choices in the
context of the dying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They should not see the elderly as a burden and think only in terms of medicating the elderly. They
need to challenge the view that Good death is when a person grows old and dies peacefully (Block 1,
Unit 3, page 116). Health care workers need to have appropriate training to identify the many unmet
social needs of the elderly and provide better access to palliative care. Rather than seeking solely to
provide a peaceful death, they should also look to provide a dignified death and provide the best level
of care they can offer to the elderly patient taking into account the patients social and emotional care
needs and observing their personal choices.
Cultural differences
We live in an increasingly multicultural world, with global inequalities and world events such as
natural disasters and wars. This means that we are surrounded by many different competing and
challenging ideas about a good death (Block 1, Unit 4, page 120). Trying to recognise different
attitudes, beliefs and cultural practices could assist those caring for the dying and could contribute
towards greater equality (Block 1, Unit 5, page 120).
In the audio for Block 1, Unit 5, Activity 5.3 Nurat describes her father s death in the family home in
Bradford. She talks about her cultural background and the importance of family members caring for
the dying person rather than leaving them in a care home or hospice. For Nurat, visiting

The Evolution Of Jerusalem As A Sacred Space
The Evolution of Jerusalem as a Sacred Space The present day Jerusalem is not only a religious center
for the three major religions Judaism, Christianity, and Islam but also one of the most disputed spaces
due to the Israeli Palestinian conflict. While the city s religious significance alone attracts enough
pilgrims to support its economy, modern Jerusalem prospers with the additional tourists intrigued by
the historical landmarks, such as the Western Wall and the Dome of the Rock. However, rather than a
miracle happened overnight, the social and economic status of Jerusalem was obtained through a
process of evolution, parts of which were recorded by the Hebrew Bible. Even though the Bible may
be a collection of narratives constructed by the ancient cultures to explain the origins of life, and thus
are more mythical than realistic, many biblical accounts are actually based on genuine historic events
and can be used for references. In the case of Jerusalem, which was merely a minor Canaanite city
state before the intrusion of the Israelites, the Bible presents evidence that the city, with its suitable
geographic characteristics, gradually developed into a sacred place of great political and religious
significance over history. In particular, two factors differentiate Jerusalem from the profane space
around it: David s choice to designate the city as the capital of the United Kingdom of Israel and
Judah, and Solomon s construction of the Temple, which housed the Ark of the

Antitrust Practices and Market Power
Antitrust Practices and Market Power
Introduction The purpose of this paper is to look into a case of antitrust behavior being investigated
involving Johnson and Johnson and Novartis AG, and to analyze and discuss the various antitrust
practices that the organizations involved are accused of utilizing. Its purpose is also to discuss how the
practices being deployed in this scenario can help any of the organizations to secure market power,
which is defined by the ability of a firm to profitably raise the market price of a good or service over
marginal cost (Market Power). Finally, it will also discuss the impact that an oligopoly in this case has

The article also quoted a representative of the European Union (EU) as stating that the competition
arm of the EC would investigate whether contractual arrangements between the companies may have
had the object or effect of hindering the entry on to the market of generic versions of Fentanyl in the
Netherlands (Whalen, 2011).
Effects of Antitrust Behavior by Johnson Johnson and Novartis AG
Restricting market access to a generic drug provider by way of a contractual agreement or deal results
in financial implications for all entities involved in the deal. The oligopoly holding company would
incur large expenses as a result of making a payout to the generic drug maker for delaying release of
their product. The generic drug maker would certainly benefit from receiving the payout, however at
the expense of losing any market share gained up to that point. From the point of view of the
consumer, no longer having access to a specific drug that was effective at treating a particular
condition could result in harm or hindered treatment. It is important to note that not all alternatives of
the same drug will always have the same effect. If upon completion of investigation both J J and
Novartis are found guilty of antitrust behavior, both entities and perhaps key decision making figures
could be subject to hefty fines and even incarceration, which are typical sentences for

127 Hours Theory
In this essay, I will examine 127 Hours and it s representation of the real life event of getting trapped
in a canyon without any sort of communication to the outside world and without the acknowledgment
of family and friends. I will use the analysis of behaviour for Aron Ralston during his trap to bring
forth the film s objective for promoting continuous faith in one s self, courageousness and insurance of
safety through proper communication. Such evaluation will be done through the usage of theories of
Gombrich s cognitive versus affective belief that states the difference between sayings and actions,
and Freud s psychoanalytic theory of ritual and neurosis that places repetitive behaviours as those of
neurotics to withdraw from reality. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gombrich sheds light on the fact that people tend to show differences in what they claim to believe
and what they act upon. His theory, cognitive versus affective belief, takes into account behaviour and
the mind to prove opposition between believed ideas and actions thus showing that actions can be as
meaningful as faith. In 127 Hours, after being trapped in the canyon for multiple days with barely
enough food and water, Aron carves RIP 75 03 ARON RALSTON on the walls after recording an
introduction of himself and his situation with his camera. Yet, Aron still aims to preserve his food and,
especially, water up until he ran out and had to resort to cutting his arm off to rescue himself. Aron
itching such a phrase reflects his cognitive belief that he will die stuck in the canyon. Also, it
symbolizes mental relinquishing and the vanishing of hope since it represents his tombstone.
Furthermore, the fact that the first few sentences Aron records since his fall into the canyon consist of
a plea to send the camera to his family also constitute to his cognitive belief of death. However, his
cognitive belief does not match with his actions while being trapped, his affective belief. Instead of
completely giving up through the consumption of all his sustenance and waiting for death, Aron fights
to survive by carefully monitoring his food and water intakes. As well as that, Aron s constant trails of
escape and methods of keeping himself warm in the cold nights disprove his cognitive belief of giving
into death as his affective belief is centered not only on survival but also escaping alive and adapting
to his current environment. Of course, Aron s affective belief in this case is heavily influenced by
human instinct, but Aron goes a higher level regarding his need for survival when he cuts his arm off
to escape. Even though

Lyndon B. Johnson s Foreign Highlights
Lyndon B. Johnson s Foreign Highlights
Lyndon B. Johnson became president in 1963, a time period in which the United States was engaged
in two battles on both the domestic and the international fronts. At home the President was faced with
growing Civil Rights issues and abroad he faced some of the greatest challenges of his political career.
Internationally the United States was already undergoing a Cold war with the Soviet Union and the
newly adopted policy of containment had become the answer to all of the rising Communist
movements all over the world. In Vietnam a massive Civil War was underway as the Pro Communist
Regime of the North invaded the Pro American Regime of the South. The North, which was led by Ho
Chi Minh, was backed by the Soviet Union, China and other communist allies invaded the South
backed by the United States and other anti communist allies. Minh s army consisted of North
Vietnamese forces and the Viet Cong, a South Vietnamese communist common front aided by the
North. Ngô Đình Diệm, the leader of the South, had forces that consisted of South Vietnamese
Soldiers and US Soldiers. Amidst these conflicts Johnson rose and took initiatives that would define
American Policy in Vietnam for the rest of his presidency. The Gulf of Tonkin incident was one of the
incidents that increased United States influence and intervention in Vietnam. The USS Maddox, was
in the Gulf Of Tonkin when it reported to be fired upon by a North Vietnamese motorboat. Following

Animal Welfare In Agriculture
Animal welfare of farm animals is one of the most wicked issues facing America today. The amount of
impact agriculture has on our country makes this issue complex and insolvable. Before tackling this
issue however, it is first important to understand the vicissitudes in how society views animals, the
importance of ideologies and how they impact modern agriculture, and how the agricultural industry
has changed in the last fifty years.
Over the last few decades, public perception of agriculture has shifted, and societal ethics of animal
treatment have changed. Fifty years ago, dogs and cats would never be considered part of the family ,
and treated as so like they are today. Animal welfare was also not on the forefront of the average
American s mind. Socio ethical change such as this, has increased rapidly and it is important to
understand the vital role it plays in the wicked issue of animal welfare in agriculture.
Before delving into societal (social) ethics, it is important to understand the difference between
Ethics1 and Ethics2. Ethics1 (morality) is the set of beliefs that society, individuals, or a subgroup of
society hold about good and bad, right and wrong, justice and injustice, and fairness and unfairness
(Rollin, 2006. pp. 31). Ethics2 on the other hand, is the logical examination, critique, and study of
Ethics1. Dr. Temple Grandin is a prime example of someone who has encroached on both domains.

Film Analysis Of The Film Edward Scissor Hands
Essay
The film Edward Scissor Hands by Tim Burton is seen as a modern day fairytale with the story of a
young man being pulled out of a solitary life into a large town that has a very social community. When
you look closely at the film you can see that it has many deeper meanings and emotions that are
displayed themes throughout the film, some of these are: appearance vs reality, Conformity/sameness
and Self discovery.
Throughout this film we see the theme appearance vs reality which is shown many times. For
example, at the start of the movie we see the mansion which makes the film look like a horror film but
when you see it you are surprised since it has a big colorful well kept garden and it makes it look a lot
less intimidating. The most noticeable example of this theme is Edward, when you first get a glimpse
of Edward we see him in a dark corner inside his mansion. He is spotted by peg who is trying to sell
make when she first sees him she doesn t feel threatened by him, then she sees that he has a lot of
features that make him look like a dangerous person some of these are, sharp scissors/blades as hands,
scars on his face, pale skin and dark clothes with black untidy hair, when she sees these she tries to
leave the mansion but Edward tells her not to go.
Peg Boggs: Why are you hiding back there? You don t have to hide from me I m Peg Boggs, your
local Avon representative and I m as harmless as cherry pie...

You Must Do The Thing You Think You Cannot Do. It s sad to see that people can t do what they want

themselves, and be proud of who they are. Courage creates a more positive society. Melinda and
Heather are two fictional characters that have shown courage in one form or another. On the other
hand, my brother, Shpat, is a real life example of how courage can impact the society. Each act of
courage, either factual or fictional has created some type of impact on society. In the story, Speak,
Heather, was courageous in many ways. Her courage, in this case, had a negative impact on others.

This was a positive change because he was brave enough to take a risk in opening up a business. He

Now he brought a great pizzeria to the community. By displaying this courageous act, Shpat was able

Bailey And Casey
Question: Bailey and Casey spend a lot of time interacting online. They re Facebook friends and
follow each other on Twitter and Instagram, as well as playing online games together. Unbeknownst to
Casey, though, Bailey is not a human being. Bailey is a computer program. Given that Bailey is
maintaining this sort of complex relationship with not just Casey, but an entire network of online
friends (none of whom suspect that Bailey is not human), are we justified in concluding that Bailey
has a mind? Antithesis: No, Bailey does not have a mind. Objection 1: Because Bailey is a computer
program, she has no mind. The entirety of her existence has been created in a lab and could easily be
stored on a chip. Bailey s entity occupies no physical space, has no body, and has no actual brain. Due
to this, Bailey is not able to be conscious because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Response: Despite the fact that Bailey is not a living, breathing human being but rather a highly
emotional and intelligent entity, I respond that Bailey does have a mind. According to Rene Descartes,
a being s mind is vastly different from its matter. In Bailey s case, she has no physical body but is
apparently still capable of entertaining and conveying many human like emotions using her artificial
mind. The 2013 film Her explored much of this same territory in the sense that artificially intelligent
software programs are capable of having emotions and complex relationships with human beings.
Such a machine as Samantha in Her could have very well passed the Turing Test, which measures a
machine s ability to exhibit intelligent behavior indistinguishable from that of a human. Regardless,

Why Was The Colonized England s First Colony
Q8. During the 1800s, England was working on expanding their country by taking over other nations.
England would then claim that land as their new colony. Next, England would immigrate their native
people into their newly claimed land. Overtime, these colonies would become very successful, most of
them held enough power to stand on their own. Canada is an example of one of England s first colony.
Canada was colonized first by the European country France. In the coming years, Canada was taken
over and colonized by the British. In 1763, England annexed Canada after they had defeated France
during the French and Indian War. However, with this newly added land, it would also bring problems
of its own.
There were two major problem that would grow in Canada. Those problems included religious and
cultural differences between the native people and the new immigrants from Britain. The biggest
conflicts happened between the Roman Catholic French and the English speaking colonists. The
natives to Canada were growing angry at Great Britain. Great Britain knew that in order to keep their

people held most of the power. However, this changed during the 1800s. In both colonies, middle class
people began to demand political and economic reforms. The separation between the two groups

Analysis Of David Foster Wallace s Consider The Lobster
In Consider the Lobster, David Foster Wallace asks his readers to consider if eating lobsters or other
animals is ethical. He describes how lobsters show a preference to not be boiled by their efforts to
avoid or escape the pan. He argues that this preference is proof that the lobster suffers or feels pain.
However, he ignores the fact that the same argument can be made about plants. While working in
landscaping, I discovered that grasses produce a chemical in distress right before they are cut from a
lawnmower or attacked by insects. This shows that the grass prefers to not be cut or eaten just as the
lobster did. As humans, we must eat either plants or animals to survive. If both plants and animals feel
pain and show a preference to live, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We all have a moral obligation to attempt to leave the world in a better place for future generations.
While this is an impossible task, by making an attempt we will leave it better off than if we did not try.
Overfishing has endangered cod, salmon, bluefin tuna, halibut, and countless other species. Primates,
lions, elephants, and dolphins are all endangered, but are still a source of food in some countries. If we
don t make changes soon our children and grandchildren may never have the opportunity to see these
animals. It is unethical to endanger the existence of any plant or animal by eating it. There are some
cases where eating an endangered plant or animal is beneficial. In The World s Most Endangered
Food, Rachel Nuwer discusses how mass production farming is causing some breeds of animals and
varieties of plants to go extinct. Farmers are only using a couple of breeds or varieties to maximize
profits. Ninety percent of cattle used in the dairy industry now come from one breed (Nuwer). In the
United States, eighty six percent of apple varieties from historical records are now extinct and several
more are endangered (Nuwer). In these cases, the food is endangered due to lack of demand.
Purchasing and eating these foods may actually help keep them from going extinct. As global
warming continues to change our weather, keeping these plants and animals from going extinct could

  • 2. Concerto Grosso Arcangelo Corelli, also known as Father of Concerto Grosso , was an Italian composer, violinist, and teacher. Corelli was born in Fusignano, Italy on February 17, 1653 where he studied composing music until the late 1670 s. Corelli s musical talents led him to enter the service of Queen Christina of Sweden, Franceso II, Cardinal Pamphili, Cardinal Ottoboni, who was Pope Alexander VIII, and as the court musician for the Prince of Bavaria. Corelli composed and dedicated music to his noble patrons. Corelli built the notion of Concerto Grosso into an arrangement of secular entertainment for the noble lords and ladies for various events. Other composers such as Antonio Vivaldi and Bach studied Corelli s compositions. Towards the end of his life, Corelli toured all over Europe and gained popularity. Corelli died a famous and rich man on January 19, 1713. His compositions eventually gave him the name Father of Concerto Grosso . The composition I chose from Corelli s works is his Christmas Concerto, Concerto Grosso Opus 6, that made Corelli the prime of his time. Corelli s composition consists of a small group of solo instruments against a larger group of instruments. This creates the terrace dynamics in the composition. The beginning of the composition starts out with the two violins playing on different beats slow. The slow tempo makes the conjunct melody have a smooth and pleasing texture. Then the melody jumps to an allegro tempo that is fast paced and intense. The composition s tempo has a slow fast slow movement throughout the whole piece. The fugal style contains stressed rhythms and vocal delays are a perfect example of his built concept of Concerto ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Steam engines, ships and railway engines run on coal turbines as coal produces a high amount of energy that enables them to run for long length of time before adding more coal. In order to cope with the pressures of having to implement the need to be lightweight and environmentally friendly, they have to improve the mechanical and thermal strength in order to match keep up with the rising technology and competition. Turbine blades have to be able to endure temperatures around and greater then 500OC, in order for them to be useful. A reasonably lightweight alloy commonly used in the production of turbine blades is an often a long SiC fibre reinforced titanium alloy for the highly mechanically loaded parts. By using sputtering techniques followed by hot isostatic pressing cycles, the components then become strengthened in comparison to conventional materials, which are manufactured. These alloys are heavily researched to adapt to long term behaviour which the turbines and blades undergo. These researches focuses on the durability of the turbines and degrading reactions at fibre matrix interfaces as well as internal protective layers. This means that they test the materials under extreme conditions e.g. high temperatures or duration periods, which will enable them to find the stress points which will be more prone to damage than other areas as well as disintegration points. By conducting these research experiments, engineers have been able to produce a fibre reinforced material that is oxidation resistant (rusting) and damage tolerant for a long duration of time and for temperature up to 1400OC, ... • 12. Differences Between Malcolm X And Martin Luther King Government Approved Freedom Despite both Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. actively fighting for freedom and equality during the Civil Rights Movement, both men are not remembered equally. Undeniably, their approaches were different which resulted in conflicting ideals and different outcomes. These differences are highlighted through the comparison of Dr. King s Letter from Birmingham Jail to Malcolm X s speech of The Ballot or the Bullet . Both Malcolm X and Dr.King advocated for change regarding the treatment of the black community, but their perceptions of the timeline for change varied. Malcolm X was prepared to abandon the current system and separate the black community entirely to achieve immediate equality even if this called for violence. Whereas Dr. King advocated for all groups to think and act differently for total equality and true freedom. Ultimately, Dr. King understood that for complete change it might be a longer process, but he was willing to be respectful and encourage this movement peacefully. Considering the men sought different types of change to achieve their freedom, they had to target different audiences to advocate their plans towards. As Martin Luther King Jr. desired change throughout society and the systematic injustices, he had to target those who did not personally experience his inequality, but would still listen and respect him. • 15. The Music Of The Pop Music Scene M.I.A. emerged in the Indie pop music scene in 2002. M.I.A., also known as Maya Arulpragasam, began her career in 2000 as a visual artist and filmmaker. After recording a documentary for the band Elastica, they suggested she go into the music industry. Rather than just make music, Arulpragasam wanted to make a statement that would be impacted politically, socially, and culturally. She sings about third world countries and issues, specifically Sri Lanka in her album Arular. Arulpragasam drew from the discrimination she experienced while hiding with her family during the Sri Lankan Civil War and the horror of the massacre of the Tamil people. Why has Dante chosen to paint this truly heavenly picture of her? How did she react to this? The historical Beatrice was very probably Bice, daughter of Falco Portinari, (Madelbaum [IN] 320) so in reality Beatrice or Bice was really just a childhood neighbor of the Alighieri, who Dante says he, immediately felt the foce of love for her upon first glance. (Alighieri [VN] 37) However love at first sight is hardly the case here. They first laid eyes on each other at age nine, Dante being several months older then Bice, however the twist comes when it isn t until almost nine years after this event the first words are finally spoken between the two. Soon after this event the heavenly Bice married, not Dante, but Simone di Bardi and then, sadly, died at a very young age. What is it exactly that would make Dante write such an epic piece about someone who he never really knew too well? It is said that, After the death of Beatrice, Dante entered, belatedly but voraciously, a period of philosophical study. His motives were both the need for consolation and the restless, urban, unecclesiastical curiosity that characterized one who was becoming the most complete intellectual of his time. (Mandelbaum [IN] 321) So it is easily noticeable that there is some kind of connection between Dante and Bice. Yet, is it possible that this affection was a one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay Analysis of Cousin Kate by Christina Rossetti Analysis of Cousin Kate by Christina Rossetti Cousin Kate by Christina Rossetti describes a cottage maiden who was seduced and used by the lord of the estate for which she worked. She was surprised and taken a back by the fact that someone so great and powerful could be slightly interested in her, and so she automatically fell in love with him. It wasn t until after he had slept with her that he left her for her cousin, Kate. The cottage maiden was devastated that he had done that to her. She felt unclean and unwanted. The lord asked for Kate s hand in marriage and she accepted. The cottage maid thought that he married Kate because she was innocent and pure, Because you were so good and pure/He bound you with his ring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Men would then look down on you in disgust, as would friends and family. The poem demonstrates how a man can love a woman, then throw her away and move onto another as he pleases, and because he was a Lord the cottage maiden could not say a thing. This brings into light the difference between higher and lower class people. If the cottage maiden had said anything, people would not believe her and turn a blind eye to her and to her accusations. According to the maiden, Kate s love was not real. O cousin Kate my love was true, your love was writ in sand . This tells us that Kate s love was going to disappear and was only a temporary emotion which was later just blown away like writing in the sand, whilst the maiden s love was real. The maiden may just be saying this for revenge against Cousin Kate to try and make herself feel better but we do not know. The Lord s love towards the maiden was not real, His plaything and his love . Plaything and love are two very different contrasts with each other. Did he really love her for a while or was it all just a game to him? He used her and made her believe that he liked her then left her for Kate. The maiden was infatuated by the Lord and fell in love with him instantly. He used this, his power and his wealth against the maiden. The Lord casts off the female once he meets Kate, who is fairer than the narrator. This shows that males do not always get emotionally involved in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The movie was well received by the majority of people that viewed it. However, not everyone was as impressed with the movie, like film critic Roger Ebert for example. While Ebert, at the time working as a film critic for Chicago Sun Times, gave the movie three stars, there are some critiques that are incredibly incorrect. The article focuses a lot on the stellar performances of Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush, Jack Sparrow and Barbossa respectively, while making light of the respectable performance of Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swann. He also spends a good segment of his review bashing the action scenes and deeming them pointless based on the plot of the movie. Comparison of the French and the United States Political Structures Marcy McNeal Snook POLS 241 Summer 2014 Incomplete Introduction Political culture is one of the defector concepts of contemporary social science. Theorists have not provided a persuasive picture of its casual role whereas analysts have not been able to do without it in explaining experimental results. Therefore, political culture can combine with the political structure to create or maintain regime form. Political structures are defined as the formal or informal political procedures through which decisions are made regarding the usage, production and distribution of resources in any given community. Formal political structures through its organizations can control processes such as election of leaders; parts and tasks of the executive and administration; organization of political representation (through political parties); and the obligation and oversight of the state. Informal and communal political structures, customs and rules can work within or together with the formal political organizations. In development, democratic political structures are seen to deliver prospects for all without discrimination (Scott Mcloughlin, 2014). Before a state can produce, it must realize the social peace that in turn ensures peaceful coexistence of the citizens. Spectrum Scarcity Problem Of Wide Band Abstract Spectrum scarcity problems happen due to the spread of various wireless devices and technologies engaging static frequency access and to cope up with this demand, Cognitive Radio is a solution of enormous outlook. This article discusses spectrum scarcity problem in wide band. To solve high sampling rate problems in wide band, compressive sensing is done here.A wide band signal is passed through fading channels and then it is estimated using ℓ1 magic technique. Then receiver operating characteristic curve of the evaluated signal is estimated. Keywords: Fading channel,ℓ1 magic technique, receiver operating characteristic curve. I.INTRODUCTION The expanding demand for wireless affinity and current congestion of unlicensed spectra has pushed the authoritative agencies to be more hopeful in providing new paths to adopt spectra [1]. The reason behind this is the increasing interest of consumers in wireless services which in turn is driving the evolution of wireless networks toward high speed data networks [2]. The traditional path to spectrum management is very immutable because each operator is acknowledged an exclusive license to operate in a certain frequency band. Though, with most of the useful radio spectrum already designated, it is becoming enormously tough to find unfilled bands to either utilize new services or strengthen existing ones [3]. The Evolution Of Jerusalem As A Sacred Space The Evolution of Jerusalem as a Sacred Space The present day Jerusalem is not only a religious center for the three major religions Judaism, Christianity, and Islam but also one of the most disputed spaces due to the Israeli Palestinian conflict. While the city s religious significance alone attracts enough pilgrims to support its economy, modern Jerusalem prospers with the additional tourists intrigued by the historical landmarks, such as the Western Wall and the Dome of the Rock. However, rather than a miracle happened overnight, the social and economic status of Jerusalem was obtained through a process of evolution, parts of which were recorded by the Hebrew Bible. Even though the Bible may be a collection of narratives constructed by the ancient cultures to explain the origins of life, and thus are more mythical than realistic, many biblical accounts are actually based on genuine historic events and can be used for references. In the case of Jerusalem, which was merely a minor Canaanite city state before the intrusion of the Israelites, the Bible presents evidence that the city, with its suitable geographic characteristics, gradually developed into a sacred place of great political and religious significance over history. Yet, Aron still aims to preserve his food and, especially, water up until he ran out and had to resort to cutting his arm off to rescue himself. Aron itching such a phrase reflects his cognitive belief that he will die stuck in the canyon. Also, it symbolizes mental relinquishing and the vanishing of hope since it represents his tombstone. Furthermore, the fact that the first few sentences Aron records since his fall into the canyon consist of a plea to send the camera to his family also constitute to his cognitive belief of death. Instead of completely giving up through the consumption of all his sustenance and waiting for death, Aron fights to survive by carefully monitoring his food and water intakes. As well as that, Aron s constant trails of escape and methods of keeping himself warm in the cold nights disprove his cognitive belief of giving into death as his affective belief is centered not only on survival but also escaping alive and adapting to his current environment. • 34. Animal Welfare In Agriculture Animal welfare of farm animals is one of the most wicked issues facing America today. The amount of impact agriculture has on our country makes this issue complex and insolvable. Before tackling this issue however, it is first important to understand the vicissitudes in how society views animals, the importance of ideologies and how they impact modern agriculture, and how the agricultural industry has changed in the last fifty years. Over the last few decades, public perception of agriculture has shifted, and societal ethics of animal treatment have changed. Fifty years ago, dogs and cats would never be considered part of the family , and treated as so like they are today. Animal welfare was also not on the forefront of the average American s mind. Socio ethical change such as this, has increased rapidly and it is important to understand the vital role it plays in the wicked issue of animal welfare in agriculture. • 37. Bailey And Casey Question: Bailey and Casey spend a lot of time interacting online. They re Facebook friends and follow each other on Twitter and Instagram, as well as playing online games together. Unbeknownst to Casey, though, Bailey is not a human being. Bailey is a computer program. Given that Bailey is maintaining this sort of complex relationship with not just Casey, but an entire network of online friends (none of whom suspect that Bailey is not human), are we justified in concluding that Bailey has a mind? Antithesis: No, Bailey does not have a mind. Objection 1: Because Bailey is a computer program, she has no mind. The entirety of her existence has been created in a lab and could easily be stored on a chip. Bailey s entity occupies no physical space, has no body, and has no actual brain. Due to this, Bailey is not able to be conscious because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, since she is capable of simultaneously maintaining relationships with numerous people besides Casey, Bailey does not have a mind because human beings are unable to do the same thing. Response: Despite the fact that Bailey is not a living, breathing human being but rather a highly emotional and intelligent entity, I respond that Bailey does have a mind. According to Rene Descartes, a being s mind is vastly different from its matter. In Bailey s case, she has no physical body but is apparently still capable of entertaining and conveying many human like emotions using her artificial mind. The 2013 film Her explored much of this same territory in the sense that artificially intelligent software programs are capable of having emotions and complex relationships with human beings. Such a machine as Samantha in Her could have very well passed the Turing Test, which measures a machine s ability to exhibit intelligent behavior indistinguishable from that of a human. • 38. Why Was The Colonized England s First Colony Q8. During the 1800s, England was working on expanding their country by taking over other nations. England would then claim that land as their new colony. Next, England would immigrate their native people into their newly claimed land. Overtime, these colonies would become very successful, most of them held enough power to stand on their own. Canada is an example of one of England s first colony. Canada was colonized first by the European country France. In the coming years, Canada was taken over and colonized by the British. In 1763, England annexed Canada after they had defeated France during the French and Indian War. However, with this newly added land, it would also bring problems of its own. There were two major problem that would grow in Canada. Those problems included religious and cultural differences between the native people and the new immigrants from Britain. The biggest conflicts happened between the Roman Catholic French and the English speaking colonists. The natives to Canada were growing angry at Great Britain. Great Britain knew that in order to keep their new colony, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whig the separations between the two groups of people, the tension seemed to ease. Upper Canada had an English speaking majority. Upper Canada today is located in Ontario, Canada. Lower Canada had the French speaking majority. Lower Canada today is located in Quebec, Canada. Great Britain also provided each province with its own elected assembly. In both of the provinces, wealthy British people held most of the power. However, this changed during the 1800s. In both colonies, middle class people began to demand political and economic reforms. The separation between the two groups temporarily worked, soon they would have to find another plan. During the 1830s, rebellions began in both Upper and Lower Canada. The conflicts had rekindled, England would have to come up with another new solution before time ran ... • 39. Analysis Of David Foster Wallace s Consider The Lobster In Consider the Lobster, David Foster Wallace asks his readers to consider if eating lobsters or other animals is ethical. He describes how lobsters show a preference to not be boiled by their efforts to avoid or escape the pan. He argues that this preference is proof that the lobster suffers or feels pain. However, he ignores the fact that the same argument can be made about plants. While working in landscaping, I discovered that grasses produce a chemical in distress right before they are cut from a lawnmower or attacked by insects. This shows that the grass prefers to not be cut or eaten just as the lobster did. As humans, we must eat either plants or animals to survive. If both plants and animals feel pain and show a preference to live, ... Primates, lions, elephants, and dolphins are all endangered, but are still a source of food in some countries. If we don t make changes soon our children and grandchildren may never have the opportunity to see these animals. It is unethical to endanger the existence of any plant or animal by eating it. There are some cases where eating an endangered plant or animal is beneficial. In The World s Most Endangered Food, Rachel Nuwer discusses how mass production farming is causing some breeds of animals and varieties of plants to go extinct. Farmers are only using a couple of breeds or varieties to maximize profits. Ninety percent of cattle used in the dairy industry now come from one breed (Nuwer). In the United States, eighty six percent of apple varieties from historical records are now extinct and several more are endangered (Nuwer). In these cases, the food is endangered due to lack of demand. Purchasing and eating these foods may actually help keep them from going extinct. As global warming continues to change our weather, keeping these plants and animals from going extinct could play a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
