Video Games Stereotypes
Video Games
Video games first started being introduced into the world around the 1970 s and since then have
evolved and made an impact on the real life and online world. Throughout the years of video games
making more and more of an impact in the entertainment industry, the question to weather they are a
form of media still remains. Media is defined as the main means of mass communication (television,
radio, and newspapers) regarded collectively. And depending where you re coming from media can
include the video gaming industry, film industry, tv industry and of course the news and marketing
industries.
The constant evolvement of the video game industry and internet in general has seen the creation of
various online communities. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As video games is such a big medium, they are able to convey messages to the players in a more low
key way, gender representations and stereotyping are both big things that the video gaming industry
can effectively play a big part in. Stereotyping refers to one group s generalised and widely accepted
perception about the personal attributes of members of another group (Ashmore Boca, 1981; Dates
Barlow, 1990). Within most traditional media, gender and racial stereotypes are the most pervasive
two. Increased distorted representation of women and minorities can have a negative effect on the way
that the viewer sees that particular group. The way that video games are able to influence large masses
is another reason to why it is able to be classified as a legitimate form of media. The definition of
media as stated above being, the main means of mass communication (television, radio, and
newspapers) regarded collectively. . Female characters have changed and evolved throughout the time
of video games, the first ever playable female character in a mainstream game was created in 1986
and then another well known female character was created by 1996, and that one being the protagonist
of Tomb Raider, Lara Croft. By 2014 it is now able to be chosen by the player in a collective of certain
games to weather they play as male or female. It isn t uncommon to see a female characters in a video
game to be over sexualised, much like mass media in todays age. Female characters are also
commonly portrayed as a damsel in distress , and the male protagonist is usually the one to save her.
Mass medias such as the news and newspapers have this in common with video games, making it out
that females usually need some sort of male hero in their lives. There is a big push for more women to
be involved in the creation of video games

Poverty, for example, has caused several problems of the family and they still suffer from them. Rural
poverty is very severe than other societies and is widespread in remote areas (Duncan Tickamyer,
1988). Since a father of Fatimah s family is drug addict, he is unemployed. He has spent most of his
time with his drug abusers. Therefore, the family gets financial income from the handicrafts performed
by the mother. However, this is not enough to provide a decent life and cover the basic needs of the

The Florida Project Essay
The Florida Project is a film about a family living in a motel and how financial hardship affects the
children of this film. The family I choose to support is Moonie s mother, Hailey. Within the film,
Hailey is unemployed and having a challenging time finding a job which caused her to lose the
assistance she received from welfare. Hailey turns selling discounted items on the streets and to
prostitution as her main source of income. To try and support this family, I would offer Hailey a job at
my uncle s restaurant, which will allow her not to use prostitution as a source of income. If Hailey was
able to have a steady job should would be able to provide her daughter a better place to live and a
reliable food source. Additionally, Hailey having a steady would allow her to receive assistance from
welfare if she qualified.
The film ended with a good cliffhanger, having the viewer question what would happen next to Hailey
and Moonie or why Moonie ran away to Disney World. I feel that Moonie went to Disney World
because she thought that she would blend it with all the other children and not be taken by DCF. When

The Dispossessed John Analysis
In the novels The Dispossessed by Ursula LeGuin and Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, the two
protagonists, Shevek and John, share keen interests in exploring foreign worlds. However, their
dissatisfaction with the social and economic conditions of their foreign communities compels them to
rebel against local authority, as they strive to reveal the dystopian qualities of their societies to their
citizens. While both protagonists grow up in isolation, Shevek emerges successful in his cause due to
his serenity, wisdom, and intelligence, whereas John, as a result of his naivety, fluctuating emotions,
and immense disgust of the traditions of the World State, emotionally breaks down and is eventually
driven to suicide. Both of these novels contain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Dispossessed, Shevek escapes the detection of his Urrasti hosts to make contact with local
rebel forces. With their help, he speaks at demonstrations to criticize the control of the Urrasti
government, and promises a life of freedom, brotherhood, and peace for those who wish to live on
Annares (292). After a series of violent skirmishes, Shevek retreats to the Terran embassy on Urras,
where he allows his scientific theories to be accessible to all those who are interested. As a result,
Shevek becomes successful in his mission to open Annares, Urras, and other planets to a wider
universe, while also encouraging governmental reform in Urras and providing hope for future
solidarity between Urras and Annares. However, in Brave New World, John s small attempt at societal
reform results in failure. In a hospital vestibule in the World State, John encounters a group of children
picking up some soma. Appalled by this sight, John wildly cries out for them to stop tak[ing] that
horrible stuff and immediately disposes of it, claiming that it is a poison meant to enslave them, and
asks them to choose freedom (211). However, the authorities soon arrest him and restore the soma
rations for the children. Later, when John is released, he flees to a lighthouse where he emotionally
breaks down and frequently whips himself for whenever he has impure thoughts. Eventually, after
shamefully participating in a soma infused orgy with a group of visitors and reporters, John hangs

Research Paper On Saudi Arabian Airlines
The supply chain management is the oversight of materials, information, and finance. As they move in
process from supplier to manufacture to wholesaler to retailer. Finally to consumer. Overall supply
chain management involves coordination these flows both within and among many different
companies from all over the world. In this research paper we will talk about the Saudi Arabian
Airlines supply chain management. Specifically in two parts which is the transportation system they
have and the warehouses.

In fact, the organization can pick an assortment of method for transportation. In such manner, the
decision ought to be grounded on requirements of the organization. For example, the organization
working in the book distributing industry needs the supply of paper and mash materials alongside the
supply of ink and different materials fundamental for book distributing. In such a circumstance, the
organization ought to recognize successful methods for transportation in light of the fact that the
transportation may expand expenses of creation considerably. For example, utilizing the air
transportation for book distributing is irrational on the grounds that the expenses of such
transportation are the most elevated, while the quick speed of transportation does not legitimize its
expenses. Rather, the organization ought to concentrate on four key measurements: rail transport,
inland water transport, sea transport, and air transport. Every method for transportation of materials
required for the book distributing and for the advancement of powerful inventory network has its focal
points and disadvantages yet whichever way might be utilized effectively, if the organization applies it

Short Term Psychodynamic Psychotherapy ( Stpp )
Short Term Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Short term psychodynamic psychotherapy (STPP) focuses
on uncovering the root of emotional suffering. Followers of this therapeutic approach argue against
individuals having free will. Our early life experiences and biological drives determine the
motivations of the unconscious, which control our actions, thoughts, and behaviors. During our first
few years of life, emotions are the predominant form of communication. Having a secure attachment
to his or her caretaker is essential to an infant s survival. If a young child s expression of emotion
provokes a negative reaction from the caretaker, then survival is perceived to be in peril. In order to
protect the attachment, young children create defenses to hide those emotions. Because they were
formed in the early years, these defenses evolve into habitual adaptive mechanisms that come out
when certain feelings are triggered in order to preserve the present relationship. Certain emotions,
negative attachment issues, and other early life experiences might cause the adaptive mechanisms to
become maladaptive. Even though these defenses may have solved a past problem, they may create
greater problems in present relationships. Examining a client s belief s, emotions, early life
experiences, and thoughts can give insight into recurring patterns (i.e., transference). Awareness of
emotional trigger to these defensive unconscious reactions can help begin the process of changing the
recurring

the government wide financial statements. The County uses enterprise funds to account for its water

Granville County their unrestricted net position of the Solid Waste Fund equaled $(7,658,465)

change in net position for the proprietary funds was a decrease of $103,579 (Department, June 30,

the KFS was ready to cause this displacement, but hid this from the World Bank. I came to this
opinion because the World Bank had said the Kenyan government have been evicting the people in

Annotated Bibliography Of The New Historicism
Bibliography Assemble for New Historicism New historicism was born in the end of 1970s. It is one
of the most important theories of literary criticism. It is different from the old historicism. New
historicism stressed that the implementation of a comprehensive reading of texts from political power,
ideology, cultural hegemony perspectives, formalism. Its research focuses on literature and life,
literature and history, literature and power discourse. The New historicism breaks the kind of
wordplay deconstruction strategy, making the recovery of historical consciousness becomes an
important methodological principles of literary criticism and literary studies. Some scholars hold the
view that the new historicism is sure to permeate in all the fields of literature. Main animateurs of new
historicism are Stephen Greenblatt and Hayden White. Stephen Greenblatt attached importance to
research the self shaping of renaissance. He regarded literature as the history of reshaping human s
heart. He tended to create cultural poetics of historical context. Hayden White engaged in the history
of consciousness in 19th century. He advocated the narrative historical poetic theory. The concept of
Cultural Poeticswas put forward clearlyby Greenblatt in TOWARDS A Cultural Poetics . New

Nursing Approaches For Dual Diagnosis Patients
In spite of developments made regarding vocational approaches for dual diagnosis patients such as
supported employment, most individuals are incapable of putting in hours with significant endeavours.
Study by Lysaker et al (2009) showed that CBT permitted patients to engage in employment. It was
evident from the study that patient receiving CBT treatments were able to hold onto jobs thus
promoting their social inclusion. To this end, Sue et al (2009) supports CBT as a treatment
intervention that could be extensively employed and acknowledged by patients, psychotherapists and
healthcare professionals. Adding to the argument, Frew and Spiegler (2012) maintain that CBT is an
intervention that can be used on clients irrespective of their ethnicity, gender, background and
education. Cooper (2011) reported the prevalence rate for substance use in psychosis as 36%
compared to 19.5% accounting for drug use and 11.7% on alcohol consumption in their first episodes
of psychosis in the first year. Study by Barrowclough et al (2001) indicated that there is a higher rate
of alcohol and illicit drugs problem compared with the general population for individuals with
psychosis. Weaver et al (2001) and Graham et al (2003) maintain that an estimated 25% caters for the
prevalence of co occurring substance misuse amongst individuals with psychosis. It has been

Romanticism In The Romantic Period
The Romanic period held great tools in which to develop personal expression within poetry As
popularity shifted from Neoclassism, a rigid writing form whereby poets and writers were encouraged
to copy those who also shared the poetic platform, to an increased in the importance of the individual
capabilities. Critic Christopher John Murray argues that The idea of poetry as the sincere personal
expression of the individual author emerged as central to the Romantic lyric and to aesthetics and
hermeneutics more generally connected to the increasingly important idea of genius as a uniquely
personal power of creative imagination and expression. This confirms my theory that there during the
Romantic Period there a shift from more social values in literature to a focus now on personal ability .
The importance of asking the question of why and how this shift from Neoclassical to Romantic
happened, is essential in understanding the literature of the time. Not only was the mechanical and
rigid Enlightenment rejected, the new period known as Romantic period ordered for emotional
directness and the overflow of personal feeling. Although Romanticism pathed the way for self
expression, some Poets were still very much favoring rhetoric, Angela Esterhammer comments on
this, Though Romanticism is often considered as the period which saw the emergence of self
expression as a poetic model and an ethos, a good many of the Romantic poets were formally trained
in rhetoric. Romantic

How Did Norse Mythology Affect The Viking Way
Thor, Odin, and Loki, all good marvel characters, but they didn t originate in the minds of Stan Lee. In
fact they originated nearly 1300 years earlier, in the Viking age. In that time Norse mythology was
born in its entirety. The way it was shaped was an effect of the Viking way, and the Viking way was
affected by their mythology. Norse mythology didn t stay inclusive to their own gods because of their
raids and trading they learned different religions. Norse mythology integrated another mythology into
theirs. This in turn cause wars between those said gods, specific to this essay the Aesir Vanir War. This
affected how Vikings saw the use of Seidr and this event was directly related to them raiding and

Students With The Tools And Strategies
Introduction The goal for every teacher is to equip their students with the tools and strategies they
need to be successful. Educator s today are faced with many obstacles in order to meet the academic
and emotional needs of all students in their classroom. Traditional classrooms move students to
another classroom at the end of the year, while looping provides educators the opportunity to remain
with their students to the next consecutive grade level. The shift toward single grade classes with a
single teacher educational model was established and remains prominent today (Roe, 2009). Looping
is a practice where the teacher remains with the same students for more than two or more years.
Looping provides the potential for both academic and social benefits for students. (Eric Digest) The
additional time allows educators to provide students a sense of stability, an expanded curriculum that
builds upon previous learning experiences and prior background knowledge, and the time to build and
maintain strong interpersonal relationships and a sense of community (Kerry Roe, 2009). The idea
behind looping is to avoid student anonymity by creating a longer term relationship between the
students and their teacher in a learning community. Academic benefits were reports with improved
academic achievement scores, and more enthusiastic attitudes toward learning in general. The looping
environment offers teachers the opportunity to have a deeper understanding of their students, which

The White Label Campaign Of The National Consumers League
In 1899, Florence Kelley instigated The White Label Campaign of the National Consumers League
(NCL), an organization dedicated to promoting proper working conditions and fair living wages for
factory laborers.1 By linking middle class women reformers with trade unionists in conjunction with
the use of labels, the NCL successfully advocated for legislation to establish safety standards and
maximum work hours during the Progressive Era.2 The NCL worked to help consumers know goods
were produced through consumer sovereignty, which suggests the consumer is the one who can
influence the production of goods.3 The White Label Campaign presents the idea that it is the
responsibility of the consumer to demand safety and reliability from the goods and services they buy.
4 In addition, the outcome of this campaign brought awareness to American society during the
Progressive Era; this showed that natural human rights are not a privilege, but a right. The purpose of
the White Label Campaign was to identify and label goods made under fair living wages and proper
working conditions, and to compel consumers to take responsibility to support white labeled
companies. The National Consumers League was formed in response to these conditions and
advocated that it was the duty of consumers to find out under what conditions the articles which they
purchase are produced, and to insist that these conditions shall be at least decent and consistent with a

Victim Or Heroine Research Paper
Victim or Heroine? The relationship between opposing genders and species within literature is
interesting. Women are known for being the weaker link, the brutally murdered, the intentesly stalked.
One of the first to die and if they are kept around its usually because they fit the other half of a
romantic relationship with the heroine. However, while monsters often prey upon women, in modern
horror stories sometimes the women take on the roles of both victim and heroine. In this instense it is
usually because they are apart of a bigger play of events. The turbulent relationship between women
and monsters has been characterized by conflict. However, understanding what role the female
character is playing can be difficult. Women are shown to be weaker or even defenseless against their
preditor. Usually throughout the film, the woman learns to defend herself because she has to. Women

Balancing time is key, and if this is done correctly, this will be a positive factor. When dealing with
children in a nursery, teachers need to keep accurate pace of time with the amount of activities done in
the day. Children loose interest very quickly and are easily influenced by other peers, so its very easy
for one child to break the circle of concentration. Making short, captivating activities that are both
educational and fun are the most effective ways of keeping children busy. These need to be controlled
by time, because if they are being taught for too long, they will loose interest. This is a negative factor.
Seating In a nursery, children come together for activities and sit with each other on tables to do
colouring or work, etc. If the seating is too far apart, communication will not be effective as the
children won t be able to hear what the teachers are saying. They may also not be able to hear
themselves talking to each other. group work would be almost impossible being so far away. This is
partly to with the control the teachers have over the children, but seating placement is key, and needs
to be organised correctly. This is a negative factor. When patients visit the sexual health clinics for
check ups or to collect results, it can be a little embarrassing to

The Godfather the Movie Essay
The Godfather the Movie
THE GODFATHER, made in 1974, details the Corleone crime family in Manhattan during the mid
1930s. The Don, Vito Corleone, played by Marlon Brando, leads his organization against a relentless
narcotics push by a rival family, the Sollozzos. Vito Caleone does not want anything to do with drugs
because he believes they will be the downfall of the Mafia. The story, covering a ten year time period,
offers a rich tapestry of Mafia life from the inside, drawing the audience into witnessing the transfer of

Special effects play a huge roll in modern day films; they are mainly used to grab the attention of the
audience. In the making of THE GODFATHER, very few special effects were used. The director,
Francis Ford Coppola was able to capture the audience s attention with a terrific cast, and a
captivating story line. The movie explores many aspects of real life such as family responsibility, a
father s legacy, the need to earn respect and the corrupting influence of power. These are some of the
ingredients combined in Francis Ford Coppola s masterpiece. The movie ran close to three hours and
every scene was better then the last; not boring the viewer throughout the entire performance.
Throughout the film, Michael Corleone played brilliantly by Al Pacino, experiences a major change in
his way of thinking. Michael changes from believing that what his family does is wrong, to believing
that his family s crimes are a necessary evil. He begins by insisting to his girlfriend that his family s
crimes belong to his family, not to him. He was not involved in the business and did not want anything
to do with it.
By the end of the movie, most of the Corleone family have been murdered. Michael organizes the
execution of several people within the other crime families as the Corleon family s new Don, having
reasoned that these murders are necessary. Feeling that he must follow in his father s footsteps he
transforms from an innocent bystander to the central manipulator.

How Did Andrew Jackson Respond To The Nullification Crisis
The Nullification Crisis of November 1832 was triggered by a disagreement among South Carolina
and The United States. The dispute derived from the Tariff of 1828, which was created during John
Quincy Adams presidency, which designed to protect the industries in the northern United States,
however the tariff was unfavorable among southern states and parts of New England because it did not
benefit their economy. In 1832 a new tariff was created by Andrew Jackson s administration to lower
the previous Tariff of 1828, however South Carolina disapproved of this, because of this they decided
to nullify the tariff. John Calhoun of South Carolina, and vice president to Jackson also believed in the

Application of microbe in industry/industries with examples
Microbes usually applied in agriculture industry because expert find out that microorganism found in
the soil can help to improve agricultural productivity. For example, microbes like Agrobacterium
tumefaciens are used in plants and this will cause the plants to be genetic engineered so that they
become more resistant to certain pests, herbicides and diseases. Furthermore, microbe like Bacillus
thuringensis is used in plant too in order to supply protein that is lethal to insects when they consume
it. This can reduce the use of chemical insecticides and become more eco friendly to the environment.
Furthermore, microbes are key component in food industry. Fermentation processes can be carried out
by using the microbes like lactic acid, yeast, moulds and bacteria to make food products like beer,
bread, yoghurt and cheese. For example, the bacterium Lactobacillus acidophilus is used to produce
yogurt. Besides, bacterial acetic acid fermentation can produce vinegars. A microbe called Aspergillus

Teaching of Discipleship on a Christian of Today.
AO2: Explain how this teaching about discipleship might affect the life of a Christian today.
Christian discipleship involves faith and commitment to God, self sacrifice, service to others, using
your time, money and energy, as God wants you to not as the world tempts you to. It also involves
belonging to God s own family, the church, and daily commitments with God. Modern day disciples
like Ghandi, (even though he was non Christian) acted as true modern day disciple with his total
commitment, self sacrifice and energy he put into leading India to independence by inspiring
movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. We can see that they acted ... Show more

And example of this would be my Granda who risked his life to save a mother and child from a house
that was burning to the ground, an almost certain death situation. He put his needs before his own and
renounced self.
To take up cross is probably one of the most challenging commands of Jesus. Mark was writing his
gospel at a time when many Christians were dying for their belief in Jesus. Crucifixion was a real
possibility. There have been times since then, even to the present day, when Christians have been
persecuted for their beliefs like Nelson Mandela, who believed in the rights of different races,
whatever their colour and was imprisoned for 27 years in which he only saw his wife three times.
To follow him means accepting the Christian way of life and treading in the footsteps of Jesus,
following his examples as closely as possible. Obedience to the will of God and putting others first
may lead to suffering as it did for Jesus. However, the invitation to Follow me also holds the promise
of sharing in Christ s resurrected life.
I believe that modern day influences can cast a certain cloud over Christianity. Yet there are still those
people who fight back to the discrimination and racial prejudice in our societies. Those are the true
disciples of Jesus Christ. He who hears the message should carry out the message. People should stop
thinking about what they take out of the world, but instead what they put back into

Okonkwo in Things Fall Apart utilises direct imperatives to instruct those subordinate to him. This is
seen throughout the text, such as when Okonkwo orders one of his wives to get me a pot and to leave
the child alone . The language used by Okonkwo serves as a tool of subjugation, with the coarse use of
direct imperatives and harsh remarks serves to overpower them to the point of them becoming his
slaves. Hugh as a societal and familial patriarch is presented in light of a failing patriarch, such as the

Owen is considered handsome and is always dressed smartly a city man . His manner is easy and

to Manus, who is introduced as pale faced, lightly built, intense, and works as an unpaid assistant...
His clothes are shabby; and when he moves we see that he is lame . Thus, Hugh is socially prejudiced,
due to social class and political opinion. Any request or interjection by Owen is seen positively by
Hugh, such as when Owen asks his father if he is interrupting and if he can bring them in , Hugh

successful societal patriarch, he needs to assume control over Owen and the English. The introduction

Essay On Juvenile And Juvenile Justice System
Throughout the 18th century, juveniles and adults were subject to the same criminal justice system.
Children and adolescents were regarded as adults and treated as such in court and correction. In the
19th century, a reform took place which aimed at addressing the issue of juveniles being incarcerated
in adult jails. A new perception of juveniles surfaced. They were no longer regarded as adults, but
instead as persons who have not yet reached adult cognitive and moral development. This new
perception has led reformers to create a new system, one that focuses on child and adolescent
offenders exclusively and that viewed adolescents and children as more open to rehabilitation. The
first juvenile court was established in 1899 in Cook County, Illinois. It shifted the focus away from
punishment and instead aimed at identifying the underlying causes of the delinquent behavior ... Show

Bright Lines Identity
The novel Bright Lines tells the story of a Muslim family in the heart of New York and their trials and
tribulations as they face the assimilation of American culture. Throughout the story, the young
characters, Maya, El, and Charu are the most affected by this assimilation because they clash with
what their elders think is best. El is a particularly interesting character because he is the most affected
by the division of the two cultures he was raised in. The audience often sees El confused about the
way he feels about his body while at the same time he is suffering from visions that haunt him.
Growing up was very tough for El because he faced many obstacles from her parents being murdered
because of the war to her complete inability to connect to anyone on a truly deep level. This, along
with the diverse cultural roles in his life, has left his in many predicaments where she struggles with
who he is. His identity is something that he longs for but has yet to find. A major aspect of his identity
of which he struggles greatly with is his sexuality. Religion in the novel is an influential aspect of El s
life and his struggle with his sexuality. The emphasis placed on religion is a very important part of life,
especially in India. In the culture presented in the novel, religion, while not presented often, is a huge
aspect of life. It is seen dictating every interaction a person has. While El does not show any

Human Attraction
A person might think that love is just a feeling for someone else they find attractive, and that it is just
that, a feeling. However, there is a scientific reason why that person is attracted to one person, and not
another. There are many contributing factors to how we are attracted to each other, three of which are
pheromones, major histocompatibility complex(MHC) and genetics. One of the major elements of
human attraction is pheromones. Pheromones are biochemical molecules that can take many different
forms, such as skunk spray, or pheromones in bees that direct them to flowers, or even sex
pheromones. According to Psychology Today, The evaluative sniffing that mammals engage in during
courtship were clues that scent is the chemical equivalent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What many people do not know, is that our genes help us to find a partner. A team lead by Chris
Wedekind at the University of Bern in Switzerland conducted a study to find if MHC variations affect
how women, and how they evaluate the aroma. Chris and his team found something interesting; they
found that women preferred the scent of men with a much different MHC profile, and the women
thought that MHC similar men smelled like their father or brother. Another finding of the team was
that the intensity of the smell is also a factor, with some men with stronger scents being rated lower,
possibly because it is a common signal of disease. It was also noted that men with unusually sweet
smells were often rated low, because it is a common sign of schizophrenia. Overall, our genes are very
important for choosing the right mate the first time and making sure that that person is the right one.
All in all, pheromones, MHC, and genes all play important parts in finding our true love. They are
also important for the survival and health of us and our offspring. However we look at it, love is a
potent force that can be more powerful than the drive to stay alive. Some people will do virtually
anything for love, will

Welcome to the Monkey House, Harrison Bergeron, and...
Kurt Vonnegut was a man of disjointed ideas, as is expressed through the eccentric protagonists that
dominate his works. Part cynic and part genius, Kurt Vonnegut s brilliance as a satirist derives from
the deranged nature of the atrocities he had witnessed in his life. The reason Vonnegut s satire is so
popular and works so well is because Vonnegut had personal ties to all the elements that he lambasted
in his works. Vonnegut s experience as a soldier in WWII during firebombing of Dresden corrupted
his mind and enabled him to express the chaotic reality of war, violence, obsession, sex and
government in a raw and personal manner. Through three works specifically, Welcome to the Monkey

Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else. All this equality was due to the 211th, 212th, and
213th Amendments to the Constitution, and to the unceasing vigilance of agents of the United States
Handicapper General. (Harrison Bergeron, 1.) The idea behind this opening paragraph is to show how
ridiculous government powers have become, as well as warn people that governments are increasingly
taking over the freedom and personal attributes of the individual. The same argument and ridicule can
be found expressed in the short story Welcome to the Monkey House. Vonnegut introduces the absurd
control the government has over the individual in the fictitious society by stating So the world
government was making a two pronged attack on overpopulation. One pronging was the
encouragement of ethical suicide, which consisted of going to the nearest Suicide Parlor and asking
the Hostess to kill you painlessly while you lay on a Barcalounger. The other pronging was
compulsory ethical birth control. (Welcome to the Monkey House, 30.) As a satirist, Vonnegut goes
where others don t dare; he satirizes the future in a cautionary manner to express concern for the
possibility of future government power. Sex is another element Vonnegut satirizes. Perhaps not to
caution, but to reveal the twisted ways in which our current society treats sex. No doubt seen in every
form of media and in every war, this theme can be found in Slaughterhouse five and

An analysis of how dikh (‘justice’) and its associated...
An analysis of how dikh ( justice ) and its associated values are presented and translated in two
passages from Sophocles: Electra.
What broader issues are raised and how would these be investigated further? The concept of dikh, or
justice has many subtle meanings and variations in Ancient Greek ranging from the primary definition
given in LS (Liddell and Scotts, Greek English Lexicon , Intermediate,
1889, page 202) of custom to right, judgement, lawsuit, penalty and vengeance. The OCD
(Hornblower S, Oxford Classical Dictionary, 1996,
Page 469) reference to Likh describes it as the, personification of justice and the daughter of Zeus that,
reports men s wrongdoing to
Zeus .
Sophocles rendition of the tragic play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is strange, especially as the remaining children conspire and eventually murder those responsible
for their father s death. They presumably feel otherwise. In just this one passage justice is used to
mean custom, just, revenge and vengeance.
The second extract follows immediately after the news of Orestes death
(Ibid., pg 91) when Clytaemnestra, after a brief moment of sorrow is joyous at the news that her life is
now safe. In contrast we see that
Electra is devastated (Ibid., line 789) at the news. The idea of justice and revenge is brought to a
climax here as Clytaemnestra feels that, Justice is done to him . Would this be justice to Orestes for
not doing his duty or to Agamemnon for sacrificing his child? This compares well with the previous
passage where Clytaemnestra accuses
Electra of not doing her duty (Ibid., pg 84, line 526). Electra cries out to Likh, Goddess of Vengeance,
hear and speak for the dead .
It is clear from the many interpretations of dikh and its use in
Sophocles Electra that other, broader issues can be raised. The very concepts of justice, revenge,
honour and custom are exposed in detail. Understanding these issues and the language used requires
further study of the period, language, laws, customs and traditions.
The most important issue raised by this play is that of how do we (or more specifically the Greeks
watching the play) feel about matricide

Examples Of Conformism In Catcher In The Rye
In the 1950s, American economy was booming after the World War II. Rates of unemployment and
inflation were low, and wages were high. However, the American society had its flaws despite all the
success it was having. One of the most popular novels of the time, The Cather In The Rye written by
JD Salinger, discussed the flaws in the society Americans had failed to realize. Throughout the novel,
Salinger criticized many aspects of American Society such as the idea of conformity and the ignorance
of teenager s lives. One of Salinger s criticism on American society was the idea of conformity where
everyone was to match with one another. During the 1950s, Americans were following these norms of
behaving in the same way as one another. For example, they lived in houses that looked identical,
wore the same types of clothing and many others. Richard Powers stated in Life of a 1950s Teenagers,
What I remember most about the 50s were rules. Rules, rules, rules... for everything. Rules about
clothes which clothes you could wear when. [...] Rules about streets. Rules about play. Rules were
placed on every American, especially children, on how to act at certain places, what to wear and
others. These norms slowly became a part of the Americans daily lives. In The Catcher In The Rye,
Salinger opposed the idea of conformity through the main character, Holden Caufield. Holden was a
teenager who rebels against conformity by not doing what is expected of him by his parents. He kept

The Paleo Diet By Loren Cordain
The Lemonade Cleanse
In the article, The Paleo Diet by Loren Cordain, the author talks about America s fascination with diet
fads, telling readers about their widespread appeal as a fix all for America s health problems and
obesity. I have to admit, like a lot of people, I am a bandwagon jumper. Whether this new fad be a new
fashion trend or a new video game sensation, chances are that I ve tried it. And new diet fads are no
exception for me.
One of the things that has become popular today is the cleanse. Cleanses can take many forms, but the
main function of these is to detox the body. Many scientists, such as Dr. Joy Dubost, a dietitian and
food scientist, warn people to shy away from such cleanses that claim to give the body a total detox.
Dubost states that, Your body has built in mechanisms for detoxification, including your liver,
kidneys, and gastrointestinal system. Going on a cleanse is not going to aide these bodily systems in
doing their job. These are short term diets that often consist solely of liquids that contain very little
caloric value and can often make going on a cleanse dangerous.

example each of the drum tracks were the same colour. I also sent each track through a bus, which
gave ensured that if the entire mix needed the gain adjusting, ... Show more content on

On these tracks, I set the makeup gain to approximately +5.0 dB in order to give certain instruments
more presence in the recording. There was also considerable distortion in the last note of the chorus,
so the use of the threshold of compressor also minimised this. A compressor diminishes the dynamic
range of a signal and allows you to increase the overall volume. There are six major components of a
compressor: the threshold, ratio, attack, release, gain and hard or soft knee. The threshold refers to the
level in which the compressor begins to act upon the signal, and the ratio is the amount that the
compressor affects the signal. The ratio is portrayed as a proportion such as 3:1, which means that if
the input level is 3 dB over the threshold, the output signal will be reduced to 1 dB. The highest ratio
is ∞:1, which is known as a limiter, which is also efficiently done at a ratio of 60:1. A limiter brings
any signal over the threshold to be brought done to the threshold level, with the exception of sudden
increases in the input loudness. The attack controls how soon the compressor kicks in, the release
controls how long the compressor continues affecting the signal after it has dropped back below the
threshold, and the gain allows you to adjust the level of the signal going out of the compressor. Hard
or soft knee are both angles of compression and its desired

Marriage Act ( Doma ) Essay
Two New York residents, both women, married lawfully in Canada. When one of the spouses, Thea
Spyer, died, she left her estate to the other spouse, Edith Windsor. Windsor was not able to claim the
estate tax exemption for surviving spouses because of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), a federal
law that excluded same sex partners from the definition of spouse in its statutory use. Both the district
court and the court of appeals found that portion of the statute unconstitutional. Granting certiorari, the
Supreme Court affirmed. The State of New York recognized Spyer s and Windsor s Canadian marriage
as valid. As such, DOMA [sought] to injure the very class New York [sought] to protect and violated
Due Process and Equal Protection principles. The Court reiterated that a bare congressional desire to
harm a politically unpopular group cannot justify disparate treatment of that group. b. Unpacking the
Bite Cases Animus or a bare desire to harm is a prevalent ground for applying rational basis with bite
scrutiny. The court is also likely to use rational basis with bite when analyzing laws that classify on
the basis of an immutable characteristic or burden a significant right. Classifications based on
immutable characteristics those that an individual cannot control threaten principles of fairness
integral to Equal Protection doctrine. In closely related Due Process doctrine, a law that burdens a

The French Theorist Guy Debord
In 1967, the french theorist Guy Debord, outlined his concept for a future spectacle society, whereby
..... Quote about capital . Presented as a treatise on the modern humman condition; Society of the
Spectacle is a piece that explores the contemporary effects of power, which it seems in more recent
times are becoming increasingly tied with the idea of a media and consumer society; a system based
off the production and consumption of images, information and commodities. In the discourse of
arhcitecture specifically, it seems Debords predictions have bled into the culture of modern design, as
expressed by Anthony Vidler: Recent proposals and debates over the architectutural devlopment of
ground zero have highlighted the way in which, over the last two decades, the public role of
architecture has been gradually reduced to the symbolic and the emblematic. Its forms of expresion
are no longer closely tied back to urban issues and physical planning questions. (Toward a theory of
the architectural program, antohny vidler, page 1) These discussions and critiques, indeed, seem to
bear out Guy Debords 1964 anticipation of an all pervading spectacle culture where in essense, we
have moved into a system of architecture overinvested in symbolic form, where flash and bravura win
out over contemplation . ( nordic from on aestehtics and function in architecture page 1. ) , with focus
on the factors that contribute to its aid and the influence they posses. And secondly, if that

Importance Of Direct Action In Martin Luther King s Letter...
In Martin Luther King Jr. s Letter from Birmingham Jail King argues the importance of direct action.
King was criticized by many political and religious leaders saying he did not belong in Birmingham
and that his campaign of direct action was untimely and avoidable. Throughout paragraphs thirteen
and fourteen of his letter King uses repetition, and pathos to convey the importance of direct action to
his readers. When King begins talking about the hardships African Americans went through he uses
repetition to show the severity of segregation in the city of Birmingham. ...when you have seen
vicious mobs lynch your mothers...when you have seen hate filled policemen curse, kick and even kill
your black brothers and sisters... By repeating the

Invisible Wall Fire Monologue
Today is the last day I will let people make trouble in this town! Now being second chairman of the
board I am basically in charge. Especially in charge during a crisis like this here one. I don t know
what folks here are getting upset about. A local plane tried to land on the highway and hit an
oncoming truck!? Now Ernie had no right taking it upon himself to call homeland security. Yes the
accident was fatal, but that s where the word accident comes in. Now I am not very sure what all the
chitter chatter about some invisible wall is, but they are full of it! I now have this here situation under
control if everyone would calm down we would be able to handle it civilly. Of course though
everybody is upset about severed limbs they are finding

  • 2. Video Games Stereotypes Video Games Video games first started being introduced into the world around the 1970 s and since then have evolved and made an impact on the real life and online world. Throughout the years of video games making more and more of an impact in the entertainment industry, the question to weather they are a form of media still remains. Media is defined as the main means of mass communication (television, radio, and newspapers) regarded collectively. As video games is such a big medium, they are able to convey messages to the players in a more low key way, gender representations and stereotyping are both big things that the video gaming industry can effectively play a big part in. Stereotyping refers to one group s generalised and widely accepted perception about the personal attributes of members of another group (Ashmore Boca, 1981; Dates Barlow, 1990). Within most traditional media, gender and racial stereotypes are the most pervasive two. Increased distorted representation of women and minorities can have a negative effect on the way that the viewer sees that particular group. The way that video games are able to influence large masses is another reason to why it is able to be classified as a legitimate form of media. The definition of media as stated above being, the main means of mass communication (television, radio, and newspapers) regarded collectively. . Female characters have changed and evolved throughout the time of video games, the first ever playable female character in a mainstream game was created in 1986 and then another well known female character was created by 1996, and that one being the protagonist of Tomb Raider, Lara Croft. By 2014 it is now able to be chosen by the player in a collective of certain games to weather they play as male or female. It isn t uncommon to see a female characters in a video game to be over sexualised, much like mass media in todays age. Female characters are also commonly portrayed as a damsel in distress , and the male protagonist is usually the one to save her. Mass medias such as the news and newspapers have this in common with video games, making it out that females usually need some sort of male hero in their lives. • 9. Short Term Psychodynamic Psychotherapy ( Stpp ) Short Term Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Short term psychodynamic psychotherapy (STPP) focuses on uncovering the root of emotional suffering. Followers of this therapeutic approach argue against individuals having free will. Our early life experiences and biological drives determine the motivations of the unconscious, which control our actions, thoughts, and behaviors. During our first few years of life, emotions are the predominant form of communication. Having a secure attachment to his or her caretaker is essential to an infant s survival. If a young child s expression of emotion provokes a negative reaction from the caretaker, then survival is perceived to be in peril. In order to protect the attachment, young children create defenses to hide those emotions. Because they were formed in the early years, these defenses evolve into habitual adaptive mechanisms that come out when certain feelings are triggered in order to preserve the present relationship. Certain emotions, negative attachment issues, and other early life experiences might cause the adaptive mechanisms to become maladaptive. Even though these defenses may have solved a past problem, they may create greater problems in present relationships. Examining a client s belief s, emotions, early life experiences, and thoughts can give insight into recurring patterns (i.e., transference). Awareness of emotional trigger to these defensive unconscious reactions can help begin the process of changing the recurring ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Romanticism In The Romantic Period The Romanic period held great tools in which to develop personal expression within poetry As popularity shifted from Neoclassism, a rigid writing form whereby poets and writers were encouraged to copy those who also shared the poetic platform, to an increased in the importance of the individual capabilities. Critic Christopher John Murray argues that The idea of poetry as the sincere personal expression of the individual author emerged as central to the Romantic lyric and to aesthetics and hermeneutics more generally connected to the increasingly important idea of genius as a uniquely personal power of creative imagination and expression. This confirms my theory that there during the Romantic Period there a shift from more social values in literature to a focus now on personal ability . The importance of asking the question of why and how this shift from Neoclassical to Romantic happened, is essential in understanding the literature of the time. Educator s today are faced with many obstacles in order to meet the academic and emotional needs of all students in their classroom. Traditional classrooms move students to another classroom at the end of the year, while looping provides educators the opportunity to remain with their students to the next consecutive grade level. The shift toward single grade classes with a single teacher educational model was established and remains prominent today (Roe, 2009). Looping is a practice where the teacher remains with the same students for more than two or more years. Looping provides the potential for both academic and social benefits for students. (Eric Digest) The additional time allows educators to provide students a sense of stability, an expanded curriculum that builds upon previous learning experiences and prior background knowledge, and the time to build and maintain strong interpersonal relationships and a sense of community (Kerry Roe, 2009). It also involves belonging to God s own family, the church, and daily commitments with God. Mark was writing his gospel at a time when many Christians were dying for their belief in Jesus. Crucifixion was a real possibility. There have been times since then, even to the present day, when Christians have been persecuted for their beliefs like Nelson Mandela, who believed in the rights of different races, whatever their colour and was imprisoned for 27 years in which he only saw his wife three times. Obedience to the will of God and putting others first may lead to suffering as it did for Jesus. However, the invitation to Follow me also holds the promise of sharing in Christ s resurrected life. I believe that modern day influences can cast a certain cloud over Christianity. Yet there are still those people who fight back to the discrimination and racial prejudice in our societies. Children and adolescents were regarded as adults and treated as such in court and correction. In the 19th century, a reform took place which aimed at addressing the issue of juveniles being incarcerated in adult jails. A new perception of juveniles surfaced. They were no longer regarded as adults, but instead as persons who have not yet reached adult cognitive and moral development. This new perception has led reformers to create a new system, one that focuses on child and adolescent offenders exclusively and that viewed adolescents and children as more open to rehabilitation. Chris and his team found something interesting; they found that women preferred the scent of men with a much different MHC profile, and the women thought that MHC similar men smelled like their father or brother. Another finding of the team was that the intensity of the smell is also a factor, with some men with stronger scents being rated lower, possibly because it is a common signal of disease. It was also noted that men with unusually sweet smells were often rated low, because it is a common sign of schizophrenia. Overall, our genes are very important for choosing the right mate the first time and making sure that that person is the right one. Part cynic and part genius, Kurt Vonnegut s brilliance as a satirist derives from the deranged nature of the atrocities he had witnessed in his life. The reason Vonnegut s satire is so popular and works so well is because Vonnegut had personal ties to all the elements that he lambasted in his works. Vonnegut s experience as a soldier in WWII during firebombing of Dresden corrupted his mind and enabled him to express the chaotic reality of war, violence, obsession, sex and government in a raw and personal manner. The idea behind this opening paragraph is to show how ridiculous government powers have become, as well as warn people that governments are increasingly taking over the freedom and personal attributes of the individual. The same argument and ridicule can be found expressed in the short story Welcome to the Monkey House. Vonnegut introduces the absurd control the government has over the individual in the fictitious society by stating So the world government was making a two pronged attack on overpopulation. What broader issues are raised and how would these be investigated further? The concept of dikh, or justice has many subtle meanings and variations in Ancient Greek ranging from the primary definition given in LS (Liddell and Scotts, Greek English Lexicon , Intermediate, 1889, page 202) of custom to right, judgement, lawsuit, penalty and vengeance. The second extract follows immediately after the news of Orestes death (Ibid., pg 91) when Clytaemnestra, after a brief moment of sorrow is joyous at the news that her life is now safe. In contrast we see that Electra is devastated (Ibid., line 789) at the news. The idea of justice and revenge is brought to a climax here as Clytaemnestra feels that, Justice is done to him . Would this be justice to Orestes for not doing his duty or to Agamemnon for sacrificing his child? This compares well with the previous passage where Clytaemnestra accuses Electra of not doing her duty (Ibid., pg 84, line 526). Electra cries out to Likh, Goddess of Vengeance, hear and speak for the dead . It is clear from the many interpretations of dikh and its use in Sophocles Electra that other, broader issues can be raised. The very concepts of justice, revenge, honour and custom are exposed in detail. However, the American society had its flaws despite all the success it was having. One of the most popular novels of the time, The Cather In The Rye written by JD Salinger, discussed the flaws in the society Americans had failed to realize. Throughout the novel, Salinger criticized many aspects of American Society such as the idea of conformity and the ignorance of teenager s lives. One of Salinger s criticism on American society was the idea of conformity where everyone was to match with one another. During the 1950s, Americans were following these norms of behaving in the same way as one another. For example, they lived in houses that looked identical, wore the same types of clothing and many others. There was also considerable distortion in the last note of the chorus, so the use of the threshold of compressor also minimised this. A compressor diminishes the dynamic range of a signal and allows you to increase the overall volume. There are six major components of a compressor: the threshold, ratio, attack, release, gain and hard or soft knee. The threshold refers to the level in which the compressor begins to act upon the signal, and the ratio is the amount that the compressor affects the signal. The ratio is portrayed as a proportion such as 3:1, which means that if the input level is 3 dB over the threshold, the output signal will be reduced to 1 dB. The highest ratio is ∞:1, which is known as a limiter, which is also efficiently done at a ratio of 60:1. A limiter brings any signal over the threshold to be brought done to the threshold level, with the exception of sudden increases in the input loudness. The attack controls how soon the compressor kicks in, the release controls how long the compressor continues affecting the signal after it has dropped back below the threshold, and the gain allows you to adjust the level of the signal going out of the compressor.
