Unit 024 Essay
Unit 024 Promote child and young person s development
1.1. When assessing development some factors need to be taken into account one of these is
confidentiality, this means that you will need permission from a child s parents/carers before doing
observations, also when information is wrote down about a child is important that it is kept in a
safe place were only the relevant people can access it. Also making sure that information about a
child is only shared with parents/carers or colleagues and professionals that have the right to know.
Another factor to take into account is a child s wishes and feelings, this means to take into account
the child s wishes when doing an observation or assessment. The child may not want to be assessed

And also children may be rehearsed and show better behaviour. Filming For: More information
can be gained as visual nature and sound is used. Against: Children may know they are been
filmed and not act themselves or change behaviour or way of play. Also the observer chooses when
to record and this time may not be the typical of that child. Sound recording For: The child s
intonation and speech pattern can be accurately recorded. Against: Child may be aware that they
are been recorded and also the observer chooses when and where which can also affect the way the
child acts. Information from parents and colleagues For: Other colleagues or parents may see the
children involved in different situations or activities. Against: Parent or other colleagues may be
bias.
2.3 Inclusive and person centred approach means that anything involving supporting or planning
for that person means they should be involved were possible. When planning for a child it should
be taken into consideration what is best for the child and also how it might involve or engage the
child. This means when planning for a child it is important that we do not segregate them from
others and think of ways in which we can involve others or ways to adapt a activity so that the area
of development that needs support can be incorporated. I implement this in my own work by
looking at an individual interests, and then when choosing or planning an activity I involve these

The Arab-Israeli Conflict In The 1800s
The Arab Israeli conflict has been an ongoing issue from the 1800s. The conflict is based on the
struggle for land for both the Jews and the Arabs. When the 1947 partition plan was established by
the United Nations to split Palestine into two states, the Palestinian Arab people ended up with less
land than the Jewish (Jewish 56 percent and Arabs 43 percent of Palestine). This decision lead to
war between the two groups, meaning that there was no peace. The Arabs have been through a lot
since the Partition plan came into play. Not only do they have to share land with the Jews, but after
the partition plan, the Jews threated and killed some of the Arabs out of their own country, which
resulted in them becoming refugees. Both parties believe... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More violence and tension followed after the Jewish National Fund purchased land from some Arab
landowners, meaning that the Arabs in the area were evicted.
To make the Arabs happy and stop revolting against the British, they released the White Paper that
limited future Jewish migration, land purchases and promised independence for the Arabs. The
Jews felt like this was betrayal to the Balfour Declaration. Both the Arabs and the Jews have felt
betrayed by the decisions made concerning them. For the Arabs, it was when the Balfour
Declaration was made and stated it was in great favour of the national home in Palestine for the
Jews and when the partition plan came out. For the Jews it was when the white paper limited
Jewish migration and land promises. Furthermore, it resulted into fights among the two groups.
However, both groups eventually signed the armistice agreements for the partition of

A Letter Of A Contract For The Sale Of Real Property
Under California Civil Code 1624 (a), Contracts are not valid, unless they, or some note or
memorandum thereof, are in writing and subscribed by the party to be charged or by the party s
agent . . . . Cal. Civ. Code В§ 1624 (Derring. Lexis through Chapter 722 of the 2015 Legis Sess.
Approved Oct. 9, 2015); see Simmons v. Dryer, 31 Cal. Rptr. 205, 208 (Ct. App. 1963). The
primary purpose of the Statute is evidentiary, to require reliable evidence of the existence and
terms of the contract. Sterling v. Taylor, 152 P.3d 425, 433 (Cal. 2007). A memorandum of a

at 423. The memorandums were found to be sufficient together with extrinsic evidence that listed
the buyer, seller and the properties to be purchased. Id. at 429 30. The court concluded that while
the memorandums would be sufficient writings to satisfy the statue of frauds, there was ambiguity
on the purchase price and no contract had been formed. Id. at 430 31. See Finn v. Goldstein, 258 P.
85, 86 (Cal. 1927) (holding that a memorandum should contain material elements including the
seller, buyer, price and property).
In contrast to the facts of Sterling, in Simmons the plaintiff offered to buy the defendant s property
where both parties signed deposit slips indicating all of the essential terms of the sale of the
defendant s property. Simmons, 31 Cal. Rptr. at 201 02. After the plaintiff secured an escrow
account, the defendant refused to sale the property. Id. at 202. The defendant contended that the
deposit slip was not binding because the plaintiff s new loan terms were incomplete, indefinite and
uncertain. Id. at 205. The court found that the essential terms had been listed on the deposit slip
and, nothing was left for future agreement. Id. at 206.
Similar to the facts of Simmons, the respondent agreed to sale their property to the petitioners. The
sale was executed on a signed memorandum that affixed the sale price, the names of the parties and
the property deed numbers. Dennis, 3 Cal Rptr. at 196. Upon the

The Importance Of Firearms In Schools
Recent polls conducted across the United States surveying students about concealed weapon
carry laws show that almost eighty percent of students oppose the concealed carrying of firearms
on school campuses. Only five percent of students said they believe that carrying firearms on
campus would prevent school shootings or other violent acts relating to carrying guns on
campus (Book 22). Overall, the majority of American students oppose concealed carry laws and
are concerned about the safety of themselves and or others if they attend a school that allows
concealed carrying. Lately, the debate over whether or not concealed carry laws should be
allowed or not on school campuses has slowly been disappearing. If so many students across the
United States are concerned about firearms on their own school campus then, therefore, the rest
of the U.S. should be too. Currently, many states allow each school to choose if firearms should
be allowed on their campuses, however, firearms should not be allowed at all in schools across the
United States. There are more possibilities for firearms to have a bad impact rather than a good
impact on campuses including increases in crime and theft, concerns of safety, and the possibility
of firearms being stolen and used. The most important concern about allowing guns to be carried on
campuses is, of course, the safety of the students, teachers, administrators, and visitors. Firearms in
the hands of students or anyone else on campus endanger everyone

Challenges Of Bre-X
Challenges for Bre X Minerals in Indonesia Bre X Minerals Ltd. faced numerous challenges in
1996, largest among them being the potential loss of the majority stake in property that could
yield upwards of 100 million ounces of gold. The Indonesian government was threatening to
redistribute ownership of Busang, the mining region in which Bre X had property rights, due to
its fear that Bre X was a short term player not serious about extracting the gold or a long term
commitment in Indonesia. These fears were justified given Bre X s small size (it had a net loss of
$Cdn. 366,677 in 1995 compared to a net income of $Cdn. 218 million from Barrick GoldCorp., a
potential government corporate partner) and limited connections within the... Show more content on

The Indonesian government has shown, through its interactions with Bre X, that it is easily
influenced by the demands of President Suharto s family and by pressures from respected
individuals. For example, the Barrick proposal received endorsement from the government only
after Barrick hired Suharto s daughter (Tutut) and encouragement from former U.S. President
George Bush and former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney. Despite making an alliance with
PT Panutan Duta in late October, Bre X was late in recognizing the importance of relationship
building in conducting business in Indonesia. With only eight days to negotiate the deal with
Barrick, Bre X does not have time to develop the necessary connections to succeed in Indonesia
without a competent partner. Strong property rights are an essential component in any successful
market economy. Although Indonesia has regulations regarding mineral exploration and extraction,
the government has found ways to manipulate the regulations to best serve its interests. Making it
through the various stages of mining approval requires complex paperwork and numerous
negotiations with various government offices. Bre X had navigated this system and received a
Contract of Work (CoW) to mine the Southeast Zone. However, after Kuntoro Mangkusubroto
declined to revoke Bre X s CoW, Sudjana had transferred the

school, or daily errands. Now as you walk from the front door to your car, you are suddenly
snatched with a bag over your head. You are held captive against your own will shipped overseas
for months and the moment you arrive, it is expected for you to work till death. This exact story
happened to Olaudah Equiano when he was captured in Africa and brought to the North America at
the age of 11. Equiano faced much hardship and near life experiences but he was fortunate than
many other slaves by his ability to learn english, and encountering masters that were kind to him.
It is difficult to portray a young boy as fortunate when his life quickly took a turn on him one

one is stripped from their family and homeland. The trials he faced challenged his will to live
physically and mentally. He was once reunited with his sister, just to be torn out of her sight
forever again. This time he felt the days passing were unbearable, ...I became so sick and low
that I was not able to eat, nor had I the least desire to taste anything. I now wished for the last
friend, death, to relieve me (Equiano 54). When Equiano was in negative environments he felt the
tragedy of wanting to end his life. He would wake up knowing that his life could end at any

The Hybrid Vehicle Is A Hybrid Electric Vehicle
Since 1984 the United States military has been using various versions of the High Mobility
Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), or Humvee as it s more commonly known. As the
environment, technology, and mission needs change, so must the design and capabilities of
vehicles used by the military. A version of the Reconnaissance, Surveilling, Targeting Vehicle (RST
V) nicknamed The Shadow is a hybrid electric vehicledeveloped to meet the changing demands. Its
creation is intended to meet the demands of an ever changing battlefront and reduce the
limitations posed by previous vehicles. This paper will cover what a hybrid vehicle is, brief

The first hybrid electric vehicle is developed by Ferdinand Porsche in 1901. The Lohner Porsche
Mixte Hybrid, being the first ever of its kind, makes use of a gasoline powered engine in
conjunction with electric generators and motors. In the early 1980 s hybrid vehicles become
more advanced through the use of the regenerative brake design. Modern versions of hybrids
enter the scene in the late 1990 s with the Honda Insight and Toyota Prius. These models suffer a
slow start due to high purchase costs and relatively low costs of fuel. As the purchase price of
hybrid vehicles decline over the following years and the cost of fossil fuels increase, hybrids
have become increasingly popular. Today, the use of hybrid vehicles are continuing to rise and
become more popular with the addition of plug in hybrid electric vehicles. Plug in vehicles are
able to be charge from an external power source while it is parked, allowing for the batteries to
fully charge without the use of the combustion engine. This technology isn t only for civilian
applications. The Shadow is developed by two American companies, General Dynamic Land
Systems (GDLS) and Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. They are awarded an initial
contract in 1997 by the Office of Naval Research as well as the Defense Advanced Research
Agency (DARPA). The purpose of this contract is to create a vehicle compatible to meet multiple
mission variants, which is currently being fulfilled

Essay On Endogenous Modulation Of Pain
Second, this study also provides supporting evidence for endogenous modulation of pain based on
fc changes compared cLBP in different pain condition with HC and within cLBP. Substantial
evidence is accumulating to show that the striatum plays an important role in the endogenous
modulation of pain.
Published data provide evidence that the limbic system is essential to chronic pain processing59.
The NAc is a critical node in this network. Functional interactions between component structures in
the limbic system are wide ranging. Previous studies show that the nucleus accumbens (NAc) is
extensively anatomically connected with cortical areas including cingulate, prefrontal cortex,

Therefore, some previous studies hypothesized that these brain regions, especially within the
emotional corticolimbic system, acted as the bridge of pain modulation and stress regulation5.
In practice, research on the emotional brain has often focused on a few structures thought to be
central to this type of processing hypothalamus, amygdala, insula, and so on. However, chronic pain
frequently coexists with other disorders such as anxiety, depression, or learning and memory
deficits. This co occurrence might manifest if chronic pain were to precipitate neuroplastic changes
in supra spinal structures, such as amygdala, that lead to these pain related disorders.
We also found the bilateral VSs, DC, DCP and DRP had significantly overlay increased
connectivity with the right DLPFC in cLBP in HP compared with cLBP in LP.
The bilateral DCP and DRP had significantly overlay increased connectivity with the right insular
cortex and ACC in cLBP in HP compared with cLBP in LP.
The above mentioned dorsal and ventral striatum, amygdala, anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), the
anterior insular and the orbitofrontal cortex are all implicated in reward as well as pain processing.
Recent experimental data suggest that basal ganglia may also be involved in various dimensions of
pain sensation and pain experience 69. So far, there

Forecasting focuses on predicting the timing and quantity of customer demand. Capacity
Planning It is essential to accurately predict what products people are willing to purchase. If
there is not enough of something people will be angry and if there is too much of another thing
you are wasting money as a company. Location Another very important aspect of a successful
supermarket, location is important. You must be in an area with the correct demographic of
people to have success. Most people will not be willing to drive an hour to go grocery shopping.
Inventory Management The entire supermarket must be working closely on inventory
management so the perfect amount of inventory is always on hand. As I mentioned before, too
little of a product results in loss of sales and unhappy customers, but too much is a waste of
resources. Layout of Store A great layout is vital for success. Grocery shopping can sometimes
be tedious, so it is essential that the layout makes the process as easy as possible for a consumer.
If a customer is having trouble finding things then they might start shopping elsewhere. Also,
things that will spoil are usually in the back left of a store because that is where the customer will
finish shopping thus reducing the time the product will spend not being refrigerated. Scheduling A
great supermarket will have flawless scheduling of their employees and of deliveries. They will
always have fresh products and the right people

How Did Antoine Lavoisier Contribute To Chemistry
Antoine Laurent de Lavoisier was a French chemist in the chemistry field of science. He was
also known as the leader of the eighteenth century chemical revolution. He was born in Paris on
August 26, 1743. His mother died at the age of five, although he had a close relationship with his
father. Antoine had one sibling, a sister. At the age of eleven, he entered the college known as
Mazarin College. Initially Antoine wanted to be an author. He submitted several essays in
provincial competitions. Soon though, he gave way towards in interest in science. After leaving
Mazarin College, Antoine began law school. He earned his bachelor degree, but later that

He first weighed all the carbon dioxide and water that was produced by burning. Between these
experiments, he was able to determine that a substance in air combines with burnable materials, to
cause combustion. Antoine then called this substance, oxygen. This had a great impact because the
conclusion of it all was that Antoine Lavoisier was able to demonstrate that water is able to be
composed of a combination of oxygen and hydrogen. He demonstrated the role of oxygen in
animal and plant respiration. He showed that although matter changes its state in chemical reaction,
the quantity of matter is the same at the end as at the beginning of every chemical reaction, giving
evidence of the law of the conservation of matter. Antoine was making history by now because of
how successful he was. In 1755 Lavoisier was appointed to the Gunpowder Administration. As a
result of his improvements in the manufacture and delivery of gunpowder, France was able to send
large quantities to The American Colonies during the Revolutionary War. Lavoisier was then made

Earned Income Tax Credit Evaluation Essay
Earned Income Tax Credit Evaluation Meyer (2010) states that since the birth of the EITC in
1975 it has grown dramatically in size and is now the largest antipoverty program for the non aged
in the United States. Meyer (2010) continues that in 2007, 25 million families received EITC
payments totaling $49.7 billion. Meyer (2010) avers that as a result, the EITC lifted at least 4.0
million individuals above the poverty line. Meyer (2010) further continues to explain that in
addition to directly raising incomes, the EITC has sharply changed work incentives, currently
increasing the after‐taxwage by up to 45% for those with low earnings.
The EITC overall is part of the tax system and does not necessitate individuals to have a tax
liability that the credit offsets. Meyer (2010) maintains that a person without a net tax liability
receives it as a payment that, by 2009, could be as large as $5,657. The objective of the EITC has
been to move earnings while stimulating employment. This characteristic paved the way for
political support for its early acceptance and for its following development. The agenda has
undertaken more distinction in recent years as policy makers have sought to decrease the reliance
that they assert has been promoted by welfare programs.
It s well known that elevated and unrelenting poverty is excessively found in rural areas, with
isolated rural areas experiencing the utmost poverty. Mammen and Lawrence (2006) state that time

Tax Implications of E-Commerce in Nigeria
ABSTRACT
This paper examines the Tax Implications of E Commerce. The issue of e commerce and its tax
implications continues to receive a high level of attention because of the fast growth of e commerce
activities. In the emerging global economy, e commerce has increasingly become a necessary
component of business strategy and a strong catalyst for economic development. The integration of
information and communications technology (ICT) in business has revolutionized relationships
within organizations and those between and among organizations and individuals. Specifically, the
use of ICT in business has enhanced productivity, encouraged greater customer participation, and
enabled mass customization, besides reducing costs. Even before the ... Show more content on

Countries might differ over where the presence of a facility, the location of customers, the passage
of title or a number of other factors determines where the income arises. E Commerce facilitates
cross border transactions and as a mechanism has particular relevance to international taxation.
Consequently according to Li, Jinyan(2003) while e commerce might not introduce any new
problems, it is apparent that any problem already associated with an inability to synchronize or
inter relate a variety of disparate taxing systems became exacerbated by a model that facilitates the
very types of transactions that result in such problems in the first instance.
A fundamental change in existing tax rules does not appear to be requisite. However internet and e
commerce has increased the need for efficient and equitable tax treatments of firms operating in
multiple tax jurisdictions. Current procedure used by most countries to allocate the tax base
between jurisdictions and to avoid double taxation through a network of more than 1,500 bilateral
double taxation treaties, is not only cumbersome, but will also come under increasing pressure as
the scope and volume of cross border activities expand sharply. This is because the double taxation
treaties are based on the assumption of national sovereignty in tax policy, which will become less
relevant as globalization progresses. Most discussions with respect to

Flood Lab Report
The purpose of this experiment is to determine whether or not the material that a flood is going
through effects the rate and the size of the damage left behind. The independent variable in this
experiment is the material that the water is going through, where as the dependent variable is the
rate it takes for the water to floodthrough. Some controlled variables in the experiment are the
amount of water used to simulate the flooding, the amount of material the water is going through,
and the temperature of the water. If the water goes through rocks/gravel, then it will be quicker with
less damage because there is more space for the water to go through without dragging anything out.

After looking at the results, the hypothesis was accepted. There was no trench shown in the
material, and the only signs of flooding was that some of the rocks towards the bottom of the
pile moved out a few inches, but this was only because the rocks were light enough to be moved
by the water. Normally is the rocks moved at all it would only be around 3 inches, with the
highest being 3.75 and the lowest 2.5. Also the water went through the rocks really quickly, with
the slowest time being five seconds. The sand had thin trenches but they tended to be a lot deeper.
The width of the trench was only 1.5, but the depth was .75, which compared to the depth of the
dirt one which was only .25, is quite deep. The length was always between 1 and 2 inches, and
would normally get thinner as the trench progressed. This is probably because the sand would
soak up the water as the trench progressed. This material also took the most time to flow through,
with its average speed being 10.42 seconds. This one went slowest because the air pockets in the
sand are smaller. Lastly the dirt had a medium time of how quickly the water flowed through, but
had the largest width and length. The average width of the trench was normally about 2.25
inches, but would get slightly thinner as it progressed towards the bottom. This change in width
was nowhere near as apparent as it was with the sand trenches. These trenches tended to be kinda
large, averaging in a length of 3 inches. There was a lot of extra dirt that got pulled away which
you could see in the water. These trenches were only .25 inches deep, which was odd since it was
the only one that you could pick out individual particles, other than the rocks since that is how they
were measured. Some possible errors that could have occurred in this lab is that there were some

The Life Of Bob Dylan
The Life of Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan is often considered to be one of the greatest and most influential musicians of all
time. He has released 36 albums, and has amassed a huge following of music lovers. His songs
have ranged from poetic folk songs that discuss social issues of the 1960s, to covers of very
famous songs recorded with his own stylistic twist. He was one of the first rock artists whose
lyrics were considered to be on par with works of literature (1)He has also been one of the only
artists, to this day, that has been able to consistently affect listeners of any generation. For over 5
decades, he has remained a dominant musician in the American recording arts and he will remain
such for decades to come.Bob Dylan was born as Robert Zimmerman in Duluth, Minnesota on
May 24, 1941. He grew up nearby in the small town of Hibbing, Minnesota. It was there, in
Hibbing, where he learned to play guitar and set the foundation for his successful music career.
Dylan attended Hibbing High School where he formed a band called The Golden Chords, which
covered songs from the likes of Elvis Presley and Little Richard (2). The Golden Chords never

The Sagrada Familia
The Temple [of The Sagrada FamГlia] grows slowly, but this has always been the case with
everything destined to have a long life. Hundred year old oak trees take many years to grow tall;
on the other hand, reeds grow quickly, but in autumn the wind knocks them down and there is no
more to be said 1. These words, spoken by Antoni Gaudi about his life long work, Temple Expiatori
de la Sagrada FamГlia, are a means to justify the extremely long time needed for the construction of
the Sagrada FamГlia, while referencing the themes and structural concepts he borrowed from nature
in his designs. While this logical explanation may give comfort to some, others doubt the temple s
eventual completion, as its construction has just passed 123 years,... Show more content on

structure. Less than a year into the project, the budget again played a role in the future of the
Sagrada FamГlia, but this time it was clearly a change for the better. Del Villar wanted to use ashlar
columns in his design, a technique far more expensive than building up the interior with
rubblework, than covering them with ashlar. This started arguments with the Foundation, who
criticized De Villar for spending too much unnecessary money on the project. De Villar resigned
because he was not happy that his plans were not being followed, and the foundation chose 31 year
old architect Antoni Gaudi as successor. Although the Foundation and Gaudi were equally excited
to be working together on this project, neither party had any idea just how magnificent of a
masterpiece they were destined to create.

Women s Rights During The Seneca Falls
My dearest James,
Being at the convention in Seneca Falls, New York has caused me to look back on our time in
England. I had such a wonderful time on my first trip abroad to England with you. The
mistreatment the other women and I faced not being allowed to fully participate showed me the
important issues of women s rights. Despite the hardships we faced at the General Anti slavery
Convention meeting Elizabeth Stanton was wonderful. I believe working with her will help my
cause and determination to have equality for all women. Her work at this convention is truly
inspirational. Her initiating and desire for women suffrage is powerful and shows her great

I hope people will see this document in a positive and empowering light. I hope this first
convention will inspire other all around to seek out the unjust ways currently. I hope one day
our wonderful children will support and follow in my footsteps of supporting the rights of
women. There is no matter of misconception regarding the document s demands put further by
our needs. Although I fear people will not take the document seriously, and will look badly
towards the movement. I think my next venture will be starting to write a book to show the need
for equal rights of women. I can not wait to see you and our children I miss you all so much during

Introduction to an All Connected world:
Over the past few decades technology has vastly improved where a new era has dawned for
mankind, the Information age . This is an age where technology has become the very foundation of
our daily lives, where humanity can literally span and communicate the vast world with just a touch
of a button. Today, technology never ceases to evolve, and as such has continued to change how we
live, and how we connect with one another.
The Future is happening now:
Technology is everywhere, the world is connected through the web each and every second, and
these past several years saw an enourmous spike in internet connectivity: Number of internet users
between the years 2007 to 2012
This would mean that nearly a third of the entire world has access to networks that could give them
a means to work, play and also communicate anytime and anywhere they want.
What is the rate of growth in the next few years?
By 2016, it is forecasted that the annual global IP traffic is 1.3 zettabytes (or
1,300,000,000,000,000,000,000 bytes). This would mean that the significant growth in traffic was
driven by a number of factors, such as:
The growing number of devices: Tablets, mobile phones, and other smart devices as well as
machine to machine (M2M) connections are rising rapidly with a very high demand for
connectivity, it is estimated that 18.9 billion network connections will be registered during 2016,

Ozzy Osbourne Suicide Solution Analysis
Music has a powerful influence in our lives. It is something that surrounds us every day; it has
become so attached to us that we use it as inspiration, to feel relaxed, comfortable and sometimes
we make decisions led by the type of music we are listening in that instant. During the time Ozzy
Osbourne has released many pieces of music containing very contentious messages, which is the
case of SuicideSolution . In result of this piece of music, there were some tragical deaths, making
Suicide Solutionto become controversial.
The song was released on September 20, 1980. But its outcomes did not wait too long and four
years later Osbourne was in the eye of the hurricane. On October 26, 1984, a 19 years old
American named John McCollum shot himself in his bedroom while listening to Osbourne s
songs. His parents pointed out that the song Suicide Solution had encouraged him to commit
suicide. The police reported that the solo debut Blizzard of Osbourne was found on McCollum s
turntable and they said that the last song he had listened was Suicide Solution . He shot himself
and he was found still wearing his headphones. John s parent sued Osbourne in October 1985; they
sued him and his record company. But the case was dismissed in August 1986. When this happened,
John s parents tried to bring even more attention to the case. They said that the song contained
themes of devil worship and death, they used as evidence the quote that says suicide in the only way

A Madman s Diary By Lu Xun Analysis
Many authors use their work to express their thoughts about the flaws in the societies in which
they live. Lu Xun masks his criticisms of the once feudal society in China in his story, A
Madman s Diary, by comparing the feudalistic society to cannibalism. The story begins with the
narrator going to visit two brothers. Upon arrival, the narrator learns that the younger of the two
brothers has recently been cured of madness, and moved away. The older sibling offers the
narrator his brother s diary for the narrator to read. After the narrator s explanation of how he got
the madman s diary, the rest of the story is composed of various entries from the diary the narrator
was given. In the diary entries, it is learned that the madman is very fearful... Show more content on

In A Madman s Diary, the madman is the only one who is truly in touch with reality. He is the only
one who is seeing the true cannibalistic nature of the feudal system. The metaphor between
cannibalism and feudalism is meant to convey to the readers the flaws of the feudal system without
Lu Xun directly criticizing the system. Even though the madman is currently terrified of the
society he is living in, he shows hope for a better future. In the last diary entry, he ponders the
possibility of the nature of this society changing. He questions whether or not there are children
who have not consumed other people. He says that the children need to be saved from the nature
of this society of consuming other people to live. This represents Lu Xun s belief that the
feudalistic society can change if the ways of that society are not taught to the children and that
he has hope for the future of society. ...The narrator cultivates and maintains the courage to hope
that the future for the children of China will be separate from the past (Laws 51). Lu Xun
conveys a sense of hope for a better future in China through the madman s hope in the story. The
madman is the only one who is truly aware of the problems of the society that they live in.
Everyone else around him simply seems to accept the ways of life. Metaphorically, this is
representative of how normal people are blind to the problems of the feudal system, and that it
would take a madman to see the issues behind how they are living. Lu Xun uses the madman s
fear of cannibalism in society to convey to readers his own fear of

Our Socialization Process is Assumed through the Media In America, women are known as the
breadwinners of the family. They go off to work in the morning while their husbands spend the
day cleaning and cooking, some may even have a part time job. Employed or not, the husband
always makes sure their woman is fed after a hard days work. Do these statements sound
ridiculous to you as an American? Are they even feasible? Not in this country, here things are
the complete opposite. How do we know that? Because we have been socialized since day one of
our existence to believe in gender separation, as well as all other aspects of American society. So
who does this to us? Family, friends, schools, and churches are a few. However, in... Show more

Viewers experience the reaction of a person who is rewarded, associate the reward with the
product being advertised and then acquire positive feelings about the product. (Percy
Woodside,1983) An example of this when referring to children has been in hot controversy over
the past few years. Cigarette companies are constantly trying to defend the fact that they try to
lure young kids into the world of smoking through ads. These ads show attractive settings, maybe
a beach with clear blue water and carefree and happy people, maybe a couple, of course with a
cigarette. Kids who see this, observe a carefree, cool lifestyle want these benefits for themselves
and begin smoking. This illustrates how easily children can be convinced. We always thought
cartoons were harmless, animated figures are purely entertainment. However, kids begin with
cartoons that easily socialize and next thing you know, Americas young minds are spending two
to four hours a day viewing #8230; (t.v.). (Spicher Hudak,1997) Studies show that children recall
more information if it s presented verbally and visually such as a t.v. screen.(Walma van der
Molen Van der Voort,1997) In a society where we use the boob tube as both entertainment and
baby sitter, an average 20 hours a week could be fatal. In these harmless cartoons, studies show that
male characters outnumber female characters by about 4:1 and that only a small number of females

Reflection Paper On Reading Skills
From working with Joe for the past few weeks, I noticed there were a few different reading skills
that he could use some practice with. One of the first things I noticed while working with Joe
was his fluency while reading. During the running records I had done with Joe, I was able to
listen to his reading pace, and noticed that he only took pauses when he needed to take a breath.
I also noticed that he used no expression while reading; not even when there was quotation marks
present. Another reading skill that Joe lacked was good use of a decoding strategy. When Joe
was presented with a word he didn t know, he would use picture cues, but when that didn t work,
or when illustrations were minimal, Joe would simply skip over the word. When I asked Joe
what he liked to do when he came across a word he didn t know he said, I don t know . I got a
similar answer when I asked him if he knew what his teacher, and friends did when they came
across a word they didn t know. This observation showed me that Joe could really benefit from
having a decoding strategy presented to him in a minilesson. On the first day of co teaching; my
partner and I focused on teaching a decoding strategy, so we could practice that strategy if needed
while doing a fluency exercise the next time we met. Taberski mentions how working with words,
and decoding strategy will help students move from hesitancy to fluency (pg 87). Both Alexa and I
thought that our learning partners could benefit from learning

Looking towards Hydrogen as a Promising Energy Source
Hydrogen is a promising energy source due to its clean product and high energy yield (122 kJ/g)
(Chang and Lin, 2004). Water electrolysis, steam reforming of hydrocarbons and auto thermal
processes are well known technologies for H2 production, but it is cost intensive due to high energy
consumption (Ming et al., 2008). In contrast, dark fermentationprocess is low cost technology for
hydrogen productionfrom wastematerials (Tawfik et al., 2012, Tawfik et al., 2013 and Tawfik and
El Qelish, 2012). Moreover, bio hydrogen production from OFMSW has gained great attention due
to energy generation while reducing the unwanted wastes (Tawfik et al., 2011). The main problems
for bio hydrogen production from bio wastes using dark fermentation process are the low
generation rates and yields. Therefore, several factors must be considered for maximizing H2
production in the dark fermentation process, such as avoiding the loss of H2 to hydrogen
consuming anaerobes, e.g., methanogens (Ming et al., 2008). The SRT is one of the important
design parameters for maintaining hydrogen producing bacteria in dark fermentation processes. The
substrate uptake efficiency, microbial population and metabolic pathways is mainly depends on the
imposed SRT. It is assumed that a long SRT causes the growth of H2 consumers, including
methanogens, and competitors for substrates, such as non H2 producing acidogens (Hawkes et al.,
2002). On the other hand, a short SRT may reduce substrate uptake efficiency,

This study is a retrospective chart review of 360 patients with definite or possible Infective
Endocarditis according to modified Duke Criteria [1 2] who were admitted to Detroit Receiving
Hospital and Harper University Hospital in Detroit from 2006 to 2014. Both hospitals are teaching
hospitals in Detroit, Michigan. For a patient with repeated episodes of Infective Endocarditis, one
episode was only included at our institutions. Clinical, microbiological, and echocardiographic data
of all patients with definite IE were collected using a standard data collection form.
Analysis of Data
Analysis of data was conducted using the SPSS software system version 22. In table 1, bivariate
analysis was used to compare IE patients who died during admission versus those who survived to
hospital discharge.
Continuous variables were expressed as means В± standard deviation (SD) and binary regression
analysis was used to examine the associations between a continuous variable and a categorical
variable with two categories. Categorical variables were presented numbers (percentage) and the
association between them analyzed using The Chi square test. Variables that achieved a P value
less than 0.10 in the bivariable analysis were included in the multivariable logistic regression
model to adjust the effects of any possible confounding variable. The independent predictors of the
mortality were selected using a backward stepwise.

Congressional Term Limit Analysis
Our American democratic system is effective by its definition being to the degree to which
something is successful in producing a desired result. In the Federalist Papers, Hamilton, Jay, and
Madison, outlined the reasoning behind the system of government set up by our Constitution.
Madison states in Federalist 10 that an extended republic is the key to controlling the effects of
factions. (3). Madison believed, as did many other Founders, that government is created to protect
the diverse interests of the people. This means government should not be controlled by the majority
as every interest counts, even the minority s. This is the system of American democracy, created

To bring about much needed change in Congress, we must implement congressional term limits.
It was asked, do Americans [really] want lawmakers considering matters of long term political
advancement when addressing critical issues in the present? (4) One who addresses an issue
with the thought of obtaining a committee chairmanship six years from now is not conducive to
addressing the problem now (4). While it may seem beneficial to continue electing congressmen
who have many years of experience, is it really beneficial to the public good when decisions are
based on winning support of a majority of people who are uninformed, irrational, passion driven,
and bias voters? It is the job of a congressman to be informed and make rational decisions on
problems in order to better our country. If they are focused on re election, they may make a
decision, while pleasing to his/her constituents, that may do more harm than good to the public or
may not even solve a problem in the slightest. Congressmen worried about re election are also less
likely to decide on issues that may make a major change in policy, no matter the benefits, as people
generally like the status quo. With limited terms, representatives would view their time in Congress

Analysis Of Jonathan Swift s A Modest Proposal
The economic crisis in Ireland in 1970s was an overbearing issue for the Irish and became a
topic of satire ridicule for writers. Specifically, Jonathan Swift demonstrates mockery of this time
in one of his written works, A Modest Proposal. The speaker proposes to shift the issues of over
population and poverty to a business like mentality by paying woman to bare children and then
after a year, gaining a profit by selling and eat their children. The speaker s proposalto consume the
children of Irelanddemonstrates a satirical solution to the Irish s economic problems since the
speaker practices irony, paralipsis, and ridicule to his proposition to the people of Ireland.
Verbal irony is used multiple times by the speaker to describe the poor individuals in Ireland.
Within this essay, the speaker refers to the poor as pigs (16), cows in calfs and as breeders
(Swift,??). The speaker even goes so far as to describe the poor children as they will be prepared
for meals for the wealthy as an art of making good bacon by having them as a well grown, fat,
yearling (Swift,??). The irony developed by Swift is from the speaker proposing his argument of
that the children will make the most delicious, nourishing and wholesome food (Swift, Paragraph
9) can be interpreted as a second meaning. For instance, the description of the poor Irish, made by
the speaker, suggest that the individuals are being portrayed as animals that are meant to produce a
mean of advancing trade

Why The United States Should Convert To The Metric System
Introduction
An interesting fact is that only 3 countries don t use the metric system. Another interesting fact is
that at one point Canada did not use metric. The Metric system Is a system of measurement that is
as said earlier is used in most countries. The Us is one of the few that doesn t use metric. The reason
this is because most countries deemed it suitable, but the U.S still uses Imperial measurement. In
short the United States should convert to the metric system because conversion from standard to
metric is difficult, the metric system is more precise, and people already use metric in the US
anyway.
The first reason is conversion from standard to metric is difficult. This is because a miscalculation
in converting between metric and imperial. NASA lost a Mars orbiter. This all happened because
the other team used imperial. A plane from air Canada crashed because of converting error. This
happened because the plane was the company s first metric measurements and the gage was not
working. They used ripsticks to see how much fuel the plane took but conversion to volume to
weight went wrong and they crashed. As stated above conversion from standard to metric is
difficult for those reasons. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

radical approach by trying to rekindle the excitement that once had surrounded the space program.
NASA thought that if an ordinary American citizen were involved, they could communicate the

the first ordinary American to travel into space would be one of America s finest, a teacher.

How Does Othello Show Loyalty To Desdemona
Loyalty is described as giving or showing firm and constant support or allegiance to a person or
institution. In the play Othello, Emilia really shows this trait of loyalty to Desdemona in a
numerous amounts of ways. Emilia and Desdemona have a type of relationship that can only be
classified as true friendship, almost family like. In the play Othello, they both really show how
much they care about being honest with each other and being protective of one another and how
they will always have each others back. Since Emilia is more protective and caring for Desdemona
than Iago, Emilia is more loyal to Desdemona. Honesty is prevalent in Othello by Emilia with
Desdemona. The way that Emilia and Desdemona are so caring and honest with each other is
almost precarious. Good madam, do I warrant it grieves my husband as if the cause were his. (Act
3, Scene 3, line 2 3) Emilia is honest with Desdemona and tells her to talk to Cassio to make sure
her husband s problem is resolved. Emilia is also very honest to... Show more content on

Protectiveness is probably one of the most crucial traits out of all. Pray you come in. I will
bestow you where you shall have time to speak you blossom freely. (Act 3, Scene 1, line 43 45)
Emilia lets Desdemona and Cassio speak freely without anyone finding out because they are not
supposed to be doing that. Another way Emilia demonstrates protectiveness towards Desdemona
is protecting her feelings and making sure she does not get hurt. After Emilia steals the
handkerchief from Desdemona, Iago wouldn t tell Emilia what he plans on doing with it so
Emilia then wants to give it back to Desdemona because it is very meaningful to her. Tis not a
year or two shows us a man. They are all but stomachs, and all but food. To eat us hungerly, and
when they are full, they belch us. (Act 3, scene 4, line 92 95) Emilia gives Desdemona good

Analysis Of The Back Of The Turtle By Kings
These oral stories, or histories, provides historical actors with an opportunity to depict their own
stories in their own words, where usual written records often discount the great unwashed. For
Indigenous peoples, individuality is critical to shared histories. Politicians, activists, and business
leaders may materialize frequently in official documents and the media, usually manipulating it
for their purposes, but the rest of us very seldom do. In The Back of The Turtle, Kings portrays a
identical similar setting; a world full of media coverage that is manipulated by large companies,
such as Dominion; A spill? No said Winter. But evidently there has been some seepage. Possibly
from one of our ponds. Didn t we fund an environmental

Realism In The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution started during the mid nineteenth century. It was the major influence for
the rise of Realism in the arts. Realism is a style of art that portrays the hardship and reality in life
during the 1800s. Realism helped artists to express their feelings in a more realistic way, compared
to the earlier style, Romanticism, which mainly contours imaginations and emotions. The Industrial
Revolutionfacilitated the development of factories leading to. Realism artists were eager to express
their feeling of dissatisfaction toward the Industrial Revolution in their artworks. The rise of

One example is the two paintings by Honore Daumier which portrays two different classes riding
the same carriage. The Third Class Carriage by Honore Daumier, is a painting showing a tightly
packed crowd of working class men and women, which convey their hardship during the time. It
is also shown on their expressions, clothing, and postures. The First Class Carriage also by
Daumier, showed no physical contact and people sat apart from each other, which showed the
differences between social classes. These two paintings by the same person strongly reflected the
lives between different social classes. The upper class was able to afford a much bigger carriage and
have more personal space. In contrast, the lower class was forced to be squeezed inside a small
carriage. The lower class mostly workers in factories were paid very little, therefore, they were only

The Line Between Good And Evil In Philip Zimbardo s The...
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn once said, The line between good and evil cuts through the heart of every
human being. Every indivdual has the decision between good and evil. Not every person will
choose the right side of the line. When an indivdual crosses over the line to the evil side this is
known as The Lucifer Effect. Philip Zimbardo, the individual that coined the idea, presented the
ideas behind why people change and turn evil even if though their whole life they were not
known as an evil person. According to Zimbardo, people turn evil for one of two reasons; The
Lucifer Effect and the seven social processes that grease the slippery slope of evil (TED Talks).

Images arose that showed how the guards had beaten and humiliated the prisoners there had
control over. The guards had shown no signs of evil tendencies perviously, so why did they do it?
Later, after the initial controvery, information came out saying that it possibly happened because
the generals in charge of the guards put pressure on them to get information out of the prisoners.
This lead these American heroes to perform unimaginably, horibble tortures towards the inmates
(The American Prospect). The second reason that Zimbardo gives for people turning evil is the
seven social processes that grease the slippery slope of evil (TED Talks). That phrase translates to
seven thought processes that lead a person to evils that they never thought they could. Mindlessly
taking the first small step expresses in words part of what Stanley Milgram ran an experiment to
test. The first step of his experiment involved shocking a learner with fifteen volts. Taking the first
small step, in the case of Milgram the first, harmless 15 volt shock, can lead to shocks that ended at
450 volts, a lethal shock. Secondly, the dehumanization of others, when one experiences
confrontation with other people they see them as not having feelings as though they are their
enemies. Continuing on into the de individualization of self which translates to the power of
anonymity.

Question: Does prayer before an athletic competition affect the overall performance of the athlete?
Introduction
In today s society prayer has been a pivotal part of many athletes lives. The rituals before a
competition can often make or break a quality performance for that athlete. While interning with
Fordham University Athletics, I had the opportunity to interact with an array of athletes. Watching
these different athletes participate in their pre game rituals has sparked my interest in this research
topic. Does prayer before an athletic competition affect the overall performance of the athlete? In
this study, I attempt to investigate the relationship between religion and prayer and an athletic

In researching this topic, one very significant academic work, The Use of Prayer in Sport:
Implications for Sport Psychology Consulting by Nick J. Watson and Daniel R. Czech (2005)
explores the new found importance of religion and spirituality in sports, and how the public
interprets and observes an athletes religious rituals. As both Watson and Czech (2005) are sport
psychologists, their research examines the importance of religion, its effect on an athlete s
psychological state, as well as the affect it has on athlete s overall performance in competition.
Watson and Czech (2005) first define religion and spirituality so as the reader can fully
understand what the author s writing and research findings mean. The terms religion, spirituality,
and prayer, can have different meanings amongst different cultures, so it is important the reader
has concrete definitions in mind prior to reading the article. The authors define religion as . . . a
system of beliefs in divine or superhuman power, and practices of worship or other rituals
directed toward such a power (p.2). This for example is Christianity, Judaism, and Buddhism. The
definition of spirituality is much broader and can be defined from a religious or humanist
perspective, where personal meaning is derived from whatever people believe to be ultimate, and
valued in and of itself (p.2). The focus of their research article is prayer in sport

The important success factors for Indian Automobile Industry are:

The Rap-Hip-Hop Song Of Eminem Like Toy Soldiers
Like Toy Soldiers
Like Toy Soldiers is a rap song that came out in 2004, and is considered one of the best songs
Eminem, or by his birth name Marshall Mathers, has ever produced, and is still popular for fans
of the genre today. It is regarded as having some of the most heavy handed material, as he speaks of
various conflicts between different artists and groups within the rap scene. Eminem s Like Toy
Soldiers is a rap/hip hop song with strong lyrics that give life advice to any person listening, and
for this reason, everyone should listen to it as it is a powerful song with genuinely meaningful
lyrics. One point that Mathers makes is how he shouldn t need to bring his crew in battles that
he can handle himself, showing that leaders need to be able to handle themselves when needed.
He also mentions how he never got into the rap hip/hop scene for the drama between artists,
when he talks about this he is displaying how people should get involved in something with a
desire for that action, not for conflicts with others to draw in drama with. Marshall also talks
about how he was told to avoid what wasn t his business, even though it was hurting someone who
he was close with, which signifies a great amount of restraint when needed. Some people would
argue that a leader bringing others in to help with confrontation is always favorable, as there is no
reason for a task to be kept to one person and make it more difficult for them. This assumption is a
misguided thought that

An Analysis of the Social Gradient of Health in Relation to the Australian Indigenous population
The demonstration of a social gradient of health predicts that reducing inequality itself has health
benefits for all, not simply for the impoverished or deprived minorities within populations. (Devitt,
Hall Tsey 2001) The above quote from Devitt, Hall and Tsey s paper is a relatively well grounded
and well researched statement which draws on contemporary theoretical sociological concepts to
support the assertion that reducing inequality is the key to improving health for all. However the
assertion that the demonstration of a social gradient of health predicts that a reduction in inequality

Henry states that a central differentiator between classes is the amount of control an individual
feels they have over their environment. Whereas an individual from a lower class group holds a
limited sense of control over their well being and consequently adopts a fatalistic approach to
health, those in higher classes with a stronger sense of control over their health are more likely to
take proactive steps in ensuring their future wellbeing. This means that both individuals will cope
differently with the same health problem. This is partly as a result of socioeconomic or
environmental determinants relative to their situation, but it is also a result of behavioural/physical
constraints and, most importantly, the modes of thought employed in rationalising their situation
and actions. In essence these psychosocial pathways occupy an intermediate role between the
social determinants of health and class related health behaviours. This suggests that, while the
social gradient of health is a good predictor of predisposition to ill health among specific classes,
it cannot predict how reducing inequality in itself will affect health outcomes or how a specific
social class will respond to these changes. An examination of some initiatives aimed at reducing
inequality in the indicators of health outcomes reveals this problem; In 1996 only between 5% and
6% of NT Aboriginal

handsome, was as driven as any president could possibly be. Jacqueline who added onto his

He found out the CIA was trying to kill (Cuban leader Fidel) Castro, which is a fact. So the
argument is that the CIA felt that Kennedy was going to disband them. And as a result of that,
they were the ones that ordered the killing of Kennedy. Although this has yet to be proven Perry
believes it cannot be ruled out. Others believed the Soviet Union had to do with Kennedy s
death. Two direct points lead to the Soviet Union, one of which was that the US was in the Cold
War and that Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev was embarrassed due to the fact he had to back
down and remove the nuclear missiles. The other one is that Harvey Lee Oswald spent a portion
of his time in the Soviet Union asking to become a citizen. As Harvey stated he was a patsy, it is
possible he was the scapegoat for Nikita Khrushchev. The other conspiracy theory that has yet to be
debunked and is still highly expected is whether there was two shooters instead of one. Around the
time the president was shot the motorcade was passing a grassy knoll and many believe that on that

Computer ( Pc ) And Macintosh ( Mac )
Since the 1990s, Personal Computer (PC) and Macintosh (Mac) users have waged a war about
which system is better. At first PC users said Macs had under powered processors and buggy
software, while Mac users only stated Windows 98. Today the argument is much more
complicated, and no one is going to win this war. Mac users will say the security, usability, and
design are better, while the PC users will say the price, software compatibility, and choice is
better. So there has always been this war about what is better, Mac or PC, but in the end it
comes down to personal preference. PC and Mac have always had different core operating systems.

The Negative Effects Of Violent Video Games On Children
Video games are the national pastime and have a lot of influences on our children, youths, and
young adults. The drive to become the best or beat the game can change the player s outlook on
life. Violence in video games has been seen as the cause for aggressive and harmful behavior in
young children. Many children become addicted to these video games when they are not
monitored. The game child plays can be a good or a bad thing in his life. Some games teach
children to develop problem solving skills, enhance creativity, knowledge retention and literacy.
However, the same case does not apply to violent video games. Many studies have shown that
violent video games have negative effects on children. These video games have called for concern
in our society regarding issues such as physical violence, such as biting, hitting, and kicking,
yelling and screaming at someone and destroying properties. The effects of violent video games
have varied, children becoming desensitized because these games reward their violent acts and
let them view violence as acceptable conflict solver. It makes them resort to saying mean and
hurtful towards others. The graphics on these video games cause children to lack empathy. They
enjoy seeing another get hurt, see and view the world as a hostile place, and they are unable to
relate to the emotions of the other. People have been blaming video games for school shooting and
children behavior. But research, as shown that there are many positives effects violent video
games, have on children. Children who are preoccupied with violent video games express
aggressive behavior, show lack of empathy and become desensitized.
The primary consumers of violent video games are teens. More ways of playing violent video
games are created each year, but most of us have this question in mind. Constant killing in these
games can teach them to act aggressively. Most video games content is hunting a character to kill.
If the player does these operations too often, he or she can subconsciously learn those actions and
become violent as well. Children who play these games becomes isolated and introvert. They
mimic the character in the games and unable to tell what is real. (Violent Video Games and

The Risk Of Individual Investments
To remedy for the latter, the risk of individual investments in the portfolio is mapped to more
common market risks when we compute VaR. Before we proceed with an example involving
bonds, two terms have to be defined: coupon bond and a zero coupon bond. A coupon bond is a
debt investment in which an investor loans money to a company for a period of time. The
company, the borrower, in return promises to make interest payments called coupons over a
defined period of time and also pay the full amount of the loan at the end of the period. A zero
coupon bondon the other does not pay coupon interest. Suppose that we want to determine the VaR
of a 10 year coupon bond with annual coupons C in our portfolio. First, we break the 10 year coupon

Finally, we compute the Value at Risk by using the weights on the standardized instruments that we
previously computed. Again, before we proceed with an example involving this time forward
contract, we should define what a forward contract is and how it is used in financial markets.
Futures contracts are contractual agreement to buy or sell a particular commodity or financial asset
at a predetermined price in the future. The contract usually details the quantity and quality of the
underlying asset to be delivered in the future. Suppose now that we want to find the VaR of a six
month dollar to euro forward contract. We compute the VaR going through the following four steps:
We first map the standardized market risks and instruments underlying this security. Second, we
determine the position needed to be taken in the standardized instruments. We then estimate the
variances and covariance of these instruments and we finally compute the VaR in the forward
contract.
Step 1: Again, we are looking forward to map the standardized market risks and the instruments
underlying this security. The market variables that affect the six month forward contract are the
six month risk free rate in each currency (dollar and euro) and the spot exchange rate. We hence
match up the previous market factors respectively to a six month zero coupon dollar bond, a six
month zero coupon euro bond and the spot dollar to euro.

Plot Summary of Remember the Titans Essays
Remember the Titans is a film from 2000 displaying a true story of a racially divided football
team from the 1970s. The movie highlights the relationships of the black and white people, and
how they learned to interact with each other in a time when this was not the way of life. It brings
up a number of questions throughout, of what is right and what is wrong, and really challenges
the characters, making it a very interesting movie to watch. I have seen this movie many times,
and each time I feel like I get something new out of it. It is a movie that can be used as a teaching

The text explains that, They may label each other as enemies, view their own group as morally
superior, draw the boundaries between themselves and their opponents more firmly, and, under
extreme conditions, may come to see the opposing group as not even human (Baron
Branscombe, 2012). I would not say that the characters in the movie took this idea as far as the
text explains, but there were many examples of this happening. The first example would be
between the coaches. Coach Boone was given Coach Yoast s coaching position, and offers him
an assistant position for the team. Coach Yoast accepts the position, only for his players, but
ensuring that his old assistant gets a job as well. Now that the teams have integrated, there really
is not enough room for all the coaches, and it seems like each group is looking out for their own.
Coach Boone also has his assistant working with him, so now this makes four different coaches
for T.C. William s football team. With all of this happening the two white coaches and the two
black coaches are not 100% getting along. They do not agree with one another s ideas and have
clear prejudices about one another, displaying the realistic conflict theory. They all want to be
doing the same thing but there were not enough spots, so they think negatively of each other and
often butt heads. This same idea moves onto the players. Each player, black and white, had their
spot on their old team where they were

  • 4. The Arab-Israeli Conflict In The 1800s The Arab Israeli conflict has been an ongoing issue from the 1800s. The conflict is based on the struggle for land for both the Jews and the Arabs. When the 1947 partition plan was established by the United Nations to split Palestine into two states, the Palestinian Arab people ended up with less land than the Jewish (Jewish 56 percent and Arabs 43 percent of Palestine). This decision lead to war between the two groups, meaning that there was no peace. The Arabs have been through a lot since the Partition plan came into play. Not only do they have to share land with the Jews, but after the partition plan, the Jews threated and killed some of the Arabs out of their own country, which resulted in them becoming refugees. Both parties believe... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More violence and tension followed after the Jewish National Fund purchased land from some Arab landowners, meaning that the Arabs in the area were evicted. To make the Arabs happy and stop revolting against the British, they released the White Paper that limited future Jewish migration, land purchases and promised independence for the Arabs. The Jews felt like this was betrayal to the Balfour Declaration. Both the Arabs and the Jews have felt betrayed by the decisions made concerning them. For the Arabs, it was when the Balfour Declaration was made and stated it was in great favour of the national home in Palestine for the Jews and when the partition plan came out. For the Jews it was when the white paper limited Jewish migration and land promises. Furthermore, it resulted into fights among the two groups. • 7. The Importance Of Firearms In Schools Recent polls conducted across the United States surveying students about concealed weapon carry laws show that almost eighty percent of students oppose the concealed carrying of firearms on school campuses. Only five percent of students said they believe that carrying firearms on campus would prevent school shootings or other violent acts relating to carrying guns on campus (Book 22). Overall, the majority of American students oppose concealed carry laws and are concerned about the safety of themselves and or others if they attend a school that allows concealed carrying. Lately, the debate over whether or not concealed carry laws should be allowed or not on school campuses has slowly been disappearing. If so many students across the United States are concerned about firearms on their own school campus then, therefore, the rest of the U.S. should be too. Currently, many states allow each school to choose if firearms should be allowed on their campuses, however, firearms should not be allowed at all in schools across the United States. There are more possibilities for firearms to have a bad impact rather than a good impact on campuses including increases in crime and theft, concerns of safety, and the possibility of firearms being stolen and used. The most important concern about allowing guns to be carried on campuses is, of course, the safety of the students, teachers, administrators, and visitors. Firearms in the hands of students or anyone else on campus endanger everyone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Challenges Of Bre-X Challenges for Bre X Minerals in Indonesia Bre X Minerals Ltd. faced numerous challenges in 1996, largest among them being the potential loss of the majority stake in property that could yield upwards of 100 million ounces of gold. The Indonesian government was threatening to redistribute ownership of Busang, the mining region in which Bre X had property rights, due to its fear that Bre X was a short term player not serious about extracting the gold or a long term commitment in Indonesia. These fears were justified given Bre X s small size (it had a net loss of $Cdn. 366,677 in 1995 compared to a net income of $Cdn. 218 million from Barrick GoldCorp., a potential government corporate partner) and limited connections within the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Indonesian government has shown, through its interactions with Bre X, that it is easily influenced by the demands of President Suharto s family and by pressures from respected individuals. For example, the Barrick proposal received endorsement from the government only after Barrick hired Suharto s daughter (Tutut) and encouragement from former U.S. President George Bush and former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney. Despite making an alliance with PT Panutan Duta in late October, Bre X was late in recognizing the importance of relationship building in conducting business in Indonesia. With only eight days to negotiate the deal with Barrick, Bre X does not have time to develop the necessary connections to succeed in Indonesia without a competent partner. Strong property rights are an essential component in any successful market economy. Although Indonesia has regulations regarding mineral exploration and extraction, the government has found ways to manipulate the regulations to best serve its interests. Making it through the various stages of mining approval requires complex paperwork and numerous negotiations with various government offices. Bre X had navigated this system and received a Contract of Work (CoW) to mine the Southeast Zone. However, after Kuntoro Mangkusubroto declined to revoke Bre X s CoW, Sudjana had transferred the ... Now as you walk from the front door to your car, you are suddenly snatched with a bag over your head. You are held captive against your own will shipped overseas for months and the moment you arrive, it is expected for you to work till death. This exact story happened to Olaudah Equiano when he was captured in Africa and brought to the North America at the age of 11. Equiano faced much hardship and near life experiences but he was fortunate than many other slaves by his ability to learn english, and encountering masters that were kind to him. It is difficult to portray a young boy as fortunate when his life quickly took a turn on him one day working. Being a prisoner of someone else is a hard experience to suppress especially when one is stripped from their family and homeland. The trials he faced challenged his will to live physically and mentally. He was once reunited with his sister, just to be torn out of her sight forever again. This time he felt the days passing were unbearable, ...I became so sick and low that I was not able to eat, nor had I the least desire to taste anything. I now wished for the last friend, death, to relieve me (Equiano 54). When Equiano was in negative environments he felt the tragedy of wanting to end his life. The first hybrid electric vehicle is developed by Ferdinand Porsche in 1901. The Lohner Porsche Mixte Hybrid, being the first ever of its kind, makes use of a gasoline powered engine in conjunction with electric generators and motors. In the early 1980 s hybrid vehicles become more advanced through the use of the regenerative brake design. Modern versions of hybrids enter the scene in the late 1990 s with the Honda Insight and Toyota Prius. These models suffer a slow start due to high purchase costs and relatively low costs of fuel. As the purchase price of hybrid vehicles decline over the following years and the cost of fossil fuels increase, hybrids have become increasingly popular. Today, the use of hybrid vehicles are continuing to rise and become more popular with the addition of plug in hybrid electric vehicles. Plug in vehicles are able to be charge from an external power source while it is parked, allowing for the batteries to fully charge without the use of the combustion engine. This technology isn t only for civilian applications. The Shadow is developed by two American companies, General Dynamic Land Systems (GDLS) and Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. Essay On Endogenous Modulation Of Pain Second, this study also provides supporting evidence for endogenous modulation of pain based on fc changes compared cLBP in different pain condition with HC and within cLBP. Substantial evidence is accumulating to show that the striatum plays an important role in the endogenous modulation of pain. Published data provide evidence that the limbic system is essential to chronic pain processing59. The NAc is a critical node in this network. Functional interactions between component structures in the limbic system are wide ranging. Therefore, some previous studies hypothesized that these brain regions, especially within the emotional corticolimbic system, acted as the bridge of pain modulation and stress regulation5. In practice, research on the emotional brain has often focused on a few structures thought to be central to this type of processing hypothalamus, amygdala, insula, and so on. However, chronic pain frequently coexists with other disorders such as anxiety, depression, or learning and memory deficits. This co occurrence might manifest if chronic pain were to precipitate neuroplastic changes in supra spinal structures, such as amygdala, that lead to these pain related disorders. We also found the bilateral VSs, DC, DCP and DRP had significantly overlay increased connectivity with the right DLPFC in cLBP in HP compared with cLBP in LP. The bilateral DCP and DRP had significantly overlay increased connectivity with the right insular cortex and ACC in cLBP in HP compared with cLBP in LP. The above mentioned dorsal and ventral striatum, amygdala, anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), the anterior insular and the orbitofrontal cortex are all implicated in reward as well as pain processing. As I mentioned before, too little of a product results in loss of sales and unhappy customers, but too much is a waste of resources. Layout of Store A great layout is vital for success. Grocery shopping can sometimes be tedious, so it is essential that the layout makes the process as easy as possible for a consumer. If a customer is having trouble finding things then they might start shopping elsewhere. He was also known as the leader of the eighteenth century chemical revolution. He was born in Paris on August 26, 1743. His mother died at the age of five, although he had a close relationship with his father. Antoine had one sibling, a sister. At the age of eleven, he entered the college known as Mazarin College. Earned Income Tax Credit Evaluation Essay Earned Income Tax Credit Evaluation Meyer (2010) states that since the birth of the EITC in 1975 it has grown dramatically in size and is now the largest antipoverty program for the non aged in the United States. Meyer (2010) continues that in 2007, 25 million families received EITC payments totaling $49.7 billion. Meyer (2010) avers that as a result, the EITC lifted at least 4.0 million individuals above the poverty line. Meyer (2010) further continues to explain that in addition to directly raising incomes, the EITC has sharply changed work incentives, currently increasing the after‐taxwage by up to 45% for those with low earnings. The EITC overall is part of the tax system and does not necessitate individuals to have a tax liability that the credit offsets. Meyer (2010) maintains that a person without a net tax liability receives it as a payment that, by 2009, could be as large as $5,657. The objective of the EITC has been to move earnings while stimulating employment. This characteristic paved the way for political support for its early acceptance and for its following development. The agenda has undertaken more distinction in recent years as policy makers have sought to decrease the reliance that they assert has been promoted by welfare programs. Countries might differ over where the presence of a facility, the location of customers, the passage of title or a number of other factors determines where the income arises. E Commerce facilitates cross border transactions and as a mechanism has particular relevance to international taxation. Consequently according to Li, Jinyan(2003) while e commerce might not introduce any new problems, it is apparent that any problem already associated with an inability to synchronize or inter relate a variety of disparate taxing systems became exacerbated by a model that facilitates the very types of transactions that result in such problems in the first instance. A fundamental change in existing tax rules does not appear to be requisite. However internet and e commerce has increased the need for efficient and equitable tax treatments of firms operating in multiple tax jurisdictions. Current procedure used by most countries to allocate the tax base between jurisdictions and to avoid double taxation through a network of more than 1,500 bilateral double taxation treaties, is not only cumbersome, but will also come under increasing pressure as the scope and volume of cross border activities expand sharply. This is because the double taxation treaties are based on the assumption of national sovereignty in tax policy, which will become less relevant as globalization progresses. The independent variable in this experiment is the material that the water is going through, where as the dependent variable is the rate it takes for the water to floodthrough. Some controlled variables in the experiment are the amount of water used to simulate the flooding, the amount of material the water is going through, and the temperature of the water. If the water goes through rocks/gravel, then it will be quicker with less damage because there is more space for the water to go through without dragging anything out. There was no trench shown in the material, and the only signs of flooding was that some of the rocks towards the bottom of the pile moved out a few inches, but this was only because the rocks were light enough to be moved by the water. Normally is the rocks moved at all it would only be around 3 inches, with the highest being 3.75 and the lowest 2.5. Also the water went through the rocks really quickly, with the slowest time being five seconds. The sand had thin trenches but they tended to be a lot deeper. The width of the trench was only 1.5, but the depth was .75, which compared to the depth of the dirt one which was only .25, is quite deep. The length was always between 1 and 2 inches, and would normally get thinner as the trench progressed. This is probably because the sand would soak up the water as the trench progressed. This material also took the most time to flow through, with its average speed being 10.42 seconds. This one went slowest because the air pockets in the sand are smaller. Lastly the dirt had a medium time of how quickly the water flowed through, but had the largest width and length. The average width of the trench was normally about 2.25 inches, but would get slightly thinner as it progressed towards the bottom. This change in width was nowhere near as apparent as it was with the sand trenches. These trenches tended to be kinda large, averaging in a length of 3 inches. There was a lot of extra dirt that got pulled away which you could see in the water. These trenches were only .25 inches deep, which was odd since it was the only one that you could pick out individual particles, other than the rocks since that is how they were measured. One of the first things I noticed while working with Joe was his fluency while reading. During the running records I had done with Joe, I was able to listen to his reading pace, and noticed that he only took pauses when he needed to take a breath. I also noticed that he used no expression while reading; not even when there was quotation marks present. Another reading skill that Joe lacked was good use of a decoding strategy. When Joe was presented with a word he didn t know, he would use picture cues, but when that didn t work, or when illustrations were minimal, Joe would simply skip over the word. • 29. Looking towards Hydrogen as a Promising Energy Source Hydrogen is a promising energy source due to its clean product and high energy yield (122 kJ/g) (Chang and Lin, 2004). Water electrolysis, steam reforming of hydrocarbons and auto thermal processes are well known technologies for H2 production, but it is cost intensive due to high energy consumption (Ming et al., 2008). In contrast, dark fermentationprocess is low cost technology for hydrogen productionfrom wastematerials (Tawfik et al., 2012, Tawfik et al., 2013 and Tawfik and El Qelish, 2012). Moreover, bio hydrogen production from OFMSW has gained great attention due to energy generation while reducing the unwanted wastes (Tawfik et al., 2011). The main problems for bio hydrogen production from bio wastes using dark fermentation process are the low generation rates and yields. Therefore, several factors must be considered for maximizing H2 production in the dark fermentation process, such as avoiding the loss of H2 to hydrogen consuming anaerobes, e.g., methanogens (Ming et al., 2008). The SRT is one of the important design parameters for maintaining hydrogen producing bacteria in dark fermentation processes. Specifically, Jonathan Swift demonstrates mockery of this time in one of his written works, A Modest Proposal. The speaker proposes to shift the issues of over population and poverty to a business like mentality by paying woman to bare children and then after a year, gaining a profit by selling and eat their children. The speaker s proposalto consume the children of Irelanddemonstrates a satirical solution to the Irish s economic problems since the speaker practices irony, paralipsis, and ridicule to his proposition to the people of Ireland. Whereas an individual from a lower class group holds a limited sense of control over their well being and consequently adopts a fatalistic approach to health, those in higher classes with a stronger sense of control over their health are more likely to take proactive steps in ensuring their future wellbeing. This means that both individuals will cope differently with the same health problem. This is partly as a result of socioeconomic or environmental determinants relative to their situation, but it is also a result of behavioural/physical constraints and, most importantly, the modes of thought employed in rationalising their situation and actions. In essence these psychosocial pathways occupy an intermediate role between the social determinants of health and class related health behaviours. This suggests that, while the social gradient of health is a good predictor of predisposition to ill health among specific classes, it cannot predict how reducing inequality in itself will affect health outcomes or how a specific social class will respond to these changes. The contract usually details the quantity and quality of the underlying asset to be delivered in the future. Suppose now that we want to find the VaR of a six month dollar to euro forward contract. We compute the VaR going through the following four steps: We first map the standardized market risks and instruments underlying this security. Second, we determine the position needed to be taken in the standardized instruments. We then estimate the variances and covariance of these instruments and we finally compute the VaR in the forward contract. Step 1: Again, we are looking forward to map the standardized market risks and the instruments underlying this security. The market variables that affect the six month forward contract are the six month risk free rate in each currency (dollar and euro) and the spot exchange rate. We hence match up the previous market factors respectively to a six month zero coupon dollar bond, a six month zero coupon euro bond and the spot dollar to euro. Step2: ... • 52. Plot Summary of Remember the Titans Essays Remember the Titans is a film from 2000 displaying a true story of a racially divided football team from the 1970s. The movie highlights the relationships of the black and white people, and how they learned to interact with each other in a time when this was not the way of life. It brings up a number of questions throughout, of what is right and what is wrong, and really challenges the characters, making it a very interesting movie to watch. I would not say that the characters in the movie took this idea as far as the text explains, but there were many examples of this happening. The first example would be between the coaches. Coach Boone was given Coach Yoast s coaching position, and offers him an assistant position for the team. Coach Yoast accepts the position, only for his players, but ensuring that his old assistant gets a job as well. Now that the teams have integrated, there really is not enough room for all the coaches, and it seems like each group is looking out for their own. Coach Boone also has his assistant working with him, so now this makes four different coaches for T.C. William s football team. With all of this happening the two white coaches and the two black coaches are not 100% getting along. They do not agree with one another s ideas and have clear prejudices about one another, displaying the realistic conflict theory. They all want to be doing the same thing but there were not enough spots, so they think negatively of each other and often butt heads. This same idea moves onto the players. Each player, black and white, had their spot on their old team where they were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
