The Importance Of Youth Work Activities
During our time studying in the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu critical decisions regarding youth work
practice were made. One of these decisions was staying to wait for our boat to the island of Savo.
Many of the group woke up early to be at the port in time to catch our boat to be told that we would be
waiting at least another hour. During the wait the group found a comfortable spot and relaxed. After
the hour ended the group went back to the port in time to catch the boat however, we ended up waiting
another 45 minutes there as the boat needed fuel. Although waiting in humid 30 degree heat is
difficult, patience and resilience were shown by all group members and it provided an important
learning opportunity for me which I will take into my youth work practice. This wait was not our first
nor last in the Pacific Islands and by the end of the trip I understood what island time was.
By waiting for the boat without complaint the group embraced the relaxed Pacific Islander culture.
This had positive effects throughout the day as once we had left the port, the day ran smoothly. Any
issue with the wait may have caused tension between the group and Paul or David who were our tour
guides for the day. This was not the first time the group had been kept waiting on the trip, although we
had only been there for a few days. The first was on our initial night in Honiara at the church, in which
the service started 45 minutes to an hour late. During this wait I asked the young person I was

4. Consent to search is an exception to the warrant; therefore the officer needs no justification to
conduct a search pursuant to a valid consent. 5. Exigent circumstances is an exception to the warrant,
it permits an officer to enter premises when there is a situation that requires immediate action. 6. Plain
view doctrine is an exception to the warrant; it provides that an officer may seize an object without a
warrant if the officer observes the object from the lawful vantage and if the nature of the object is
immediately apparent as an article subject to seizure (Garland, 2011).
The four circumstances that are recognized as exigent are: 1. Hot pursuit is limited to a situation in
which a suspect is followed from the point of the offense to the destination in a continuous
transaction. 2. The exigency of imminent destruction of evidence may also justify the entry into and
search of a dwelling, if the police have probable cause that believe that criminal evidence will be
destroyed. 3. Suspect escape is an exigent; an officer may enter a home or other dwelling and search
for a suspected felon who the officer has probable cause to believe is presently within the home and
will escape if immediate action is not taken. 4. The risk of harm to the police or others justifying the
search of a person or a home if the officer has probable cause to believe that a risk of harm
exists(Garland, 2011).

How Canada Remained Independent of Foreign Control but...
How successful Canada was on remaining independent of foreign control, whilst being a part of
international decision making.
Canada remained independent of foreign control a majority of the time, but at others it did give in to
the pressure put upon it. Canada also got to be a big part of the decision making because it put itself
out there, got recognized as a middle power and proved its worth.
Some of the ways Canada remained independent of foreign control are: When president Reagan s
administration had a project they were trying to get Canada involved in called the Strategic Defence
Initiative (SDI, but also referred to as Star Wars). This was a plan to arm satellites that could destroy
soviet missiles from space. Not many people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When NORAD was put in place during 1985 many Canadians were angered because they felt it
threatened Canadian independence and since the soviet missiles would be intercepted and destroyed
over Canada, Canada would be the one facing damage and destruction, not the US, but despite this,
Canada has maintained its commitment to NORAD. Canada and Americas economies are very alike,
to this day.
In 1945 when the UN was officially founded, Canada argues to be made a middle power, meaning
they would get recognition for being capable of holding their own, and the contribution they made
during World War II. Canada is very well known for their participation in every UN peacekeeping
operation. Lester B. Pearson even won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1957. When Egypt nationalized the
Suez Canal, Britain, France and Israel made a secret pact to invade Egypt. Israel attacked Egypt while
Britain and France took over the Canal. The situation grew tense when many countries denounced the
invasion. Lester B. Pearson proposed to the UN that Britain, France and Israel withdraw their troops
and the UN send a peacekeeping army into Egypt. His proposal was accepted. Canada also adapted a
new flag, which in a way was to show they had completely detached themselves from Britain. In 1949
Canada had signed the NATO treaty. That was the first time Canada had signed a military

Hopefully, bank loan is not the only source of funding available; friends and family savings may help
a business project too. Alternative finance methods are the peer to peer lending and the invoice
financing, the equity finance and the government grants. However, any prospected businessman has to
be really careful to choose the most appropriate funding body for its business since any source of
funding you may choose has different advantages and disadvantages. It seems that when people lack
any other source of financing, they ask their family or their close friends to contribute in order to
develop their business plans. According to Curran and Blackburn (1993), family loans account for
some 15 percent of start up finance, amongst ethic owned businesses in the UK, making it the largest
source of funds after the bank loans (Basu et al., 2013: 333). One good reason to finance your business
project in cooperation with your family or friends is the increased feeling of liability. This will
definitely help you to develop your own skills, responsibilities and a long standing character. On the
other hand, family finance can be a really dangerous option if momentous clashes suddenly appear
between family members. The family bank and family relationships will eventually be damaged or
destroyed (Babcock, 2013).
Another popular financial method is the peer to peer lending. A type of lending which matches
individual borrowers

however, he has been able to save his earnings and invested his money wisely in prime North Carolina
mountain real estate and a second home on coastal property in North Carolina. After many years of

Nonetheless, joint tenancy is particularly beneficial when property is transferred from one party to
another mainly in families to escape probate and expensive legal fees (Conway, 2008). Albeit, Peter
should have consulted with his co owners to enter a unilateral severance of the joint tenancy with
rights of survivorship agreement and subsequently formed a tenancy in common giving him the rights
to will his portion to Andrew. Therefore, I would advise Martin that the survivorship agreement is still
intact, making him the last surviving tenant, however, Andrew s portion that was bequeathed to him
by his father would be void in my opinion and therefore, the foreclosure should be argued based on
Peter was not a legal owner (Conway,2008). Additionally, Martin mentions that he has not been to the
property in 20 years, and when he decided to drive up to the mountain to enjoy some fly fishing a
bullet whizzed past his heads, when he approached the property. Otis quickly told him to get off his
property that he has lived on for 20 years, even though Martin informed him that the property
belonged to him and he has the deed. Once again, I share with Martin, that Otis believes that he is the
rightful owner of the property through adverse possession because he has lived on the land for 20
years openly and notorious (Kubasek et al.,2016). Furthermore, I explained to Martin that under North
Carolina case law that an adverse possessor can claim

Beowulf Comparison
Beowulf, a tale of a warrior who is graced with unworldly powers that comes to the rescue of
Hrothgar, the king of the Danes whose land is being invaded by monster named Grendel. This tale is
so famous they had to make it into both a poem and a movie. Though the movie had been derived
from the poem as most movies are there were many differences and similarities that stood out. Usually
when a book or poem gets made into a movie there are many differences and similarities. That is one
of the reasons why I was not surprised to see that the movie was very different from the poem, this
was due to the changes in the plot of the movie.
One big difference in the movie was that Hrothgar was never the father of Grendel. There is never any
mention of either Hrothgar or Beowulf ever being involved with or being by any way related to
Grendel or the dragon. While on the subject of fathers, Grendel s mother was never described as being
covered in gold and looking like Angelina Jolie, either. When reading the poem one would think of
Grendel s mother as being a monster, but when watching the movie Grendel s mother is being played

In the poem, Beowulf is seen as being a very holy and courageous figure. But in the movie Beowulf is
not as holy as the Anglo Saxon s meant him to be; he lies and takes the easy way out in the movie. In
the movie when he was speaking with Hrothgar, Beowulf tells Hrothgar that he killed Grendel s
mother. But in all reality it is not true in the movie but in the epic he truly does slay her in her
underwater cave . Instead of killing her he had a sexual relationship with her leading her to bear his
child which in the end is found out to be the dragon which he kills but who also kills him. By this
point we pick up that Grendel is really the son of Hrothgar, we see the relief in Hrothgar when
Beowulf tell him that he has slain the

Essay on analysis of distrust between the sexes

An Analysis of Dr. Horney s The Distrust between the Sexes
In Dr. Horney s The Distrust Between the Sexes, she explains the several psychological reasons for
the unease in a relationship. Dr. Horney explains the discomfort in a couple s bond with three causes.
Horney argues there are individual factors that causes poor relationships between men and women that
might be pertinent ones (340). The reality of what she argues however is in her commonplace theories.
These theories help give the reader better comprehension of the problems or distrusts in a relationship.

Dr. Horney s second cause, as she explains, can be traced to certain traits of male psychology (343).
The basic paradox of man s attitude towards women is, even men who consciously have a very
positive relationship with women and hold them high in high esteem as human beings. They get this
from the experience they had from their mothers. Then, she goes to the attitudes of men towards
women during various eras of history and in different cultures. Also, she insists in regards to sexual
relationships with women, but also, and often more so, in nonsexual situations, such as in their general
evaluation of women (344). She then gives us an example: Adam and Eve. She tells us that the Old
Testament is outspokenly patriarchal. She argues that there is no maternal goddess. Then, she goes on
to remind that the two stories in the bible are both male bias. She thinks that the stories of Adam and
Eve have damaged the relationship between the sexes from the earliest times to the present with two
elements: one born out of resentment, the other out of anxiety.
The last clause, as Dr.Horney explains, is the sexual tensions of men and women. Horney tells us that
the tension starts at the origin then progresses through the childhood. Our understanding of the origin
enables us to understand better the fear of love that many of us

English Learner Population Across California And L.a
English Learner Population across California and L.A.U.S.D According to California of Education
(2011), 23.2 percent of total registration of students in California public schools are English language
learners, and a 71 percent mainstream of these English learners are registered in the elementary grade
levels with 29 percent being registered in the secondary grade levels and a less than 1 percent being
put in an ungraded category, and according to LAUSD EL Data Dialog Inquiry (2011), as of 2009 33
percent of the Los Angeles Unified School District (L.A.U.S.D.) students alone are English language

percent is made of up many other languages fluctuating from Armenian to Russian.
School Programs Offered Following the Immigration Act of 1965, legislation was passed to contribute
the public schools in dealing with the influx of non English speaking students. Title VII of the
Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 supported programs for educating these students,
including transitional bilingual education programs (Echevarria and Graves 2011, p.350). This Act did
not fully articulate how to go about educating these students, so an unclear message was received or
not received in whether there was going to be a process of their first languages or a complete
transition to English. The outcome was that most ELs were consigned in English only classrooms

Implicit Gender Messages in Advertisement If you have ever taken a psychology or sociology class,
you have heard of the film by Jean Kilbourne, Killing Us Softly 4, which maps out a variety of tropes
found in advertisement with regards to gender roles in American society. Some of the themes are, but
not limited to objectification, ageism, and dismemberment which are the tropes that I have decided to
focus on for this research project. The laws surrounding women objectification is slim, and it is
necessary to start implementing laws that protect women and how advertisements affect the minds of
young women growing up today. Kilbourne states in the film that the majority of advertisement ...

The message of this ad can be interpreted as a women s face being the only important part of her and
everything else appears to be in the shadows or darkness because it is less important. This is a great
example of Objectification Theory, (Fredrickson and Roberts, 1997) which states that women are seen
as objects, and therefore sexualized, so that they can be used by others. This woman s face is the only
important part of her. The slogan of the ad is a miracle sleeping cream/for more rested, younger
looking skin, which is relaying a message that beauty is for the young and that their product performs
miracles. Additionally, it suggests that staying young and beautiful are synonymous as well as a job
that a woman has to work at even when they are unconscious because youth/beauty is a 24 hour
obsession. There is no real testing or laws surrounding these products and how they are advertised. At
least none that I can find. Saying that it is an old product and it is doctor approved means nothing, and
yet we still trust it. There is also a stamp that endorses the product to suggest the legitimacy of it
because it reads quality tested / good housekeeping / since 1909 which insinuates that women are a
thing to keep maintained like a house and it reinforces stereotypes of women being

The abstract expressionist movement, with artists such as Mark Rothko and Bernat Newman were
articulating a response to an apocalyptic era in which selfhood, not to mention art, was dwarfed by the
enormity of manifold historical cataclysm including the Great Depression, the Second World War and
the mass tension of the Cold War. Clyfford Still, on the other hand objective was not to express the

Hercules And Hercules
The Greek and Christians, religion had influence on the western culture through it literature, morals,
and society that had expanded for over thousands of years. These religions had intertwined how
civilization is shaped in today s modern time. However, Christianity and Greek mythology have their
similarities in religious beliefs and their differences in expansion between the two religions. These two
religions had made enormous impacts in their influence of the male role model through history
because of Hercules and Jesus being ahead of society as a leading gender role model in western
culture. The Gods, that have a mortal spouse and have son to live among the mortal then to heaven.
Each of the sons had affected the western cultures through their legends and myths that followed them
through history. Hercules is best known as the strongest of all mortal as a half god human, who began

Reflecting on Religious Expression and School Prayer Essay
This country is comprised of individuals from various ethnic backgrounds, socioeconomic groups,
sexual orientations, and faith traditions. Whether it relates to race, class, religion or any other category
where one resides in the dominant group, it is tempting not to become oppressive and fail to show
mutual respect to the diverse cultures and beliefs of other groups. Furthermore, as educational leaders,
we must be equipped with knowledge around policies related to the above mentioned, so that we can
enforce such and build upon those that need refining.
In reflecting on religious expression and school prayer, it is important to realize the current legal

Any school promotion or endorsement of a student s private religious activity is unconstitutional.
There have been various acts across schools within this country to discriminate and demean students
within schools because they follow faith traditions different than that of the dominant group. Thus, it
is important to realize that though as a school body one cannot endorse or promote one religion or
faith tradition over another, as educational leaders we also should not engage in discrimination and
disrespect for faith believes that do not align with ours or allow other students and staff to engage in
such. Rather we must work to promote multicultural acceptance and mutual respect, celebrating the
rich diversity among all individuals and groups.
Landmark Cases
There are three landmark cases most relevant to the discussion on religious expression and school
prayer. Engle v. Vitale is a case where the Court held that recitation of a prayer composed by the New
York State Board of Regents, which was to be said in the presence of a teacher at the beginning of
school each day, was unconstitutional and in violation of the Establishment Clause. School District of

unconstitutional; however, the Court asserted that the Bible could be read as literature in

Superheroes Essay
When you think of a superhero one normally thinks of Spiderman, Batman, or Superman, but there
were superheroes long before these characters were created. First one must understand that the basis
of this name is hero. What is a hero? A hero is a person who does something special or out of the
ordinary in order to help others. It could also be someone who is admired for a characteristic about
them, be it physical or mental. They are individuals that normal everyday people can look up to. This
being the case, a superhero is nothing more then someone who is a hero, but not just that once and for
that one person, but someone who helps many people, or leads them. As time went by the number of
people who were true heroes diminished and just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Back towards the beginning of American history we see superheroes arising for the first time in our
culture. They were not necessarily able to fly or see through walls. However, they were still
extraordinary people. Their stories were passed from father to son and the story grew with every
telling. People like Paul Bunyan and Pecos Bill were just two of the many tales of the time which
spoke of men doing extraordinary things. These tales wouldn t excite forever, though. As years go by
our country and its people become less and less naïve and craved more. A giant man with a blue ox
and an axe just could not suffice. People become more and more numb to pain and murder, and
needed more than these tall tales.
It was soon after this that people began looking for someone else to admire, whether they were real or
not. Someone who they can not overcome. Someone who will lead them and help them be who they
were meant to be. Some look to politicians, others to mob leaders, but either way they are just looking
for answers. This became harder for the youth to find. Sure they had their mothers and fathers, but
they could only do so much for them. Then comic books and television came into play. Here they
could see these seemingly ordinary people doing amazing things. They wanted to be just like them. It
gave them structure and a feeling of guidance. They knew what they wanted to do and they began
trying to do it. Now,

Organ Of The Organ System
Organ transplantation has been around for about 61 years. The first successful transplantation took
place on December 23, 1954 by Dr. Joseph Murray and Dr. David Hume at Brigham Hospital in
Boston, Massachusetts. That transplantation being successful on that day has saved many lives to this
day ( Transplantation ). The only legal way to get an organ transplant is through organ donation. In the
United States alone, there are about 122,690 people on the waiting list today and only 10,051 donors.
Every ten minutes, someone is added to the waiting list and 22 people that are on the waiting list dies
everyday ( Organ Procurement ). There have been many debates on the matter of only being able to
obtain an organ through donation. Some people believe that there should be a legal market to sell
organs. In these debates, people must take other matters into consideration. The sale of organs may
have an effect the environment, the different cultures, the economy, ethics, politics, or even science
and technology. Weather these effects would be good or bad is up to debate.
There have been many debates on the issue of the legalization of the sale of human organs. One
person to debate on the issue was Dr. Monti. She put out an elaborate paper on how the sale of human
organs would benefit the economy. Jennifer Monti has a medical and master s degree in public health

Raymund Maximilian Kolbe Thesis
What is a saint? A saint is a person of great holiness, who has performed miracles for God s cause.
What is a martyr? A martyr is someone who dies for what they believe in, just like Maximilian Kolbe.
Raymund Maximilian Kolbe was born January 8, 1894. He was born in Zdunska Wola, in Poland.
Both parents, Marianna and Juliusz, were very holy, and dedicated much of their time and money to
teach their children about the catholic faith. (Gale BIC, 2) They were both poor weavers, who traded
with Jewish merchants. From a young age, Maximilian was very fond of his faith. He enjoyed church,
and loved to pray. In 1907, Max and his brothers decided to move to an all boys Franciscan school.
Their mother was supportive of this decision, because she wanted to shield the boys from the other
sex. When he turned sixteen in 1910, he was going to join the army, but his mother thought he was fit
for the priesthood. (Gale BIC, 4) So, Kolbe relented, and in 1912, arrived in Rome, and spend the next
seven years their, learning an becoming a priest. He made his priestly vow in the year 1914, and
earned a doctorate in Philosophy in the year 1915. He was finally ordained a priest in 1918. (Gale

Comparing Texts
Writers such as Dwight Okita and Sandra Cisneros were greatly influenced by the American culture.
Response to Executive Order 9066 by Dwight Okita, and Mericans by Sandra Cisneros both authors
establish the topic of American identity. In Okita s poem, American identity has more to do with how
you experience culture than with where your family came from. Both Okita s poem and Cisneros s
short story show that cultural heritage and physical appearances do not determine what it means to be
American.
In response to Mericans , the first sign of American identity that is noticed by this short story is the
classification of relatives in the style of traditional American names such as Auntie and Uncle . The

China And Its Regulation System
Despite what many people think, China and its regulation system (limited market access) had made it
difficult for foreign banks to provide their services. For instance, foreign banks were licensed to
provide corporate banking service only to foreign invested enterprises. Few licensed braches were
allowed to operate as foreign banks. Indeed, foreign banks need licenses from central bank. However,
the bank´s senior knew this would be a slow process since the China state banks were usually run by
bureaucrats and unable to set their own deposits and interest rate level.

Wright Brothers Evolution
After the motor car was invented the world thought they could do just about anything. Men had
always dreamed of taking to the sky and soaring like birds, now they could. On December171903 in
Kitty Hawk, North Carolina this dream became a reality when the Wright Brothers, Orville and
Wilbur, discovered a way to fly, making the world a little bigger. With the invention of the first flying
machine and their investigation into aeronautics, the Wright Brothers, paved the way for the future of
flight. During their investigation the Wright Brothers faced many problems, but they plowed through

Their father was afraid of losing them both in a plane crash and made them promise that they would
never fly together. However, on May251910, the brothers flew a 6 minute flight together. Orville

last flight. While Orville gained elevation, Milton cried out, After their successful flight, the Wright
brothers approached the governments of England, France, Germany, Russia, and the United States War
Department. After a few private sales, the War Department commissioned a plane in 1907. With this
purchase, the Brothers opened up a school to teach pilots about the airplane. The first of these schools
was established in Montgomery, Alabama on March151910. After receiving the schooling, these pilots
were then able to instruct future pilots. In 1909, the French government also bought a plane with the
condition that could have one that could carry a passenger. The brothers quickly went to work and
added an additional seat and increased the power of the motor. Aviation was beginning to take flight!
Flight has expanded the world s horizon. Through flight we can now travel in a matter of minutes

Wright Brothers were ordinary people who followed their dream. They never gave up and laid the
foundation for aviation. Pioneers in the truest sense. The airplane, we have come to realize, has

The Birth Evolution Of Trinidad Carnival
Beginning in the late 1700s, the festival known as Carnival was introduced to various parts of the
world as a public celebration or parade that involved the use of masks, musical elements, costumes
and more. Dating back to the 18th century, the Trinidad Carnival was introduced around the time of
the arrival of the French Catholic planters from the French West Indies. The festival originated in the
early 1780s when both white and colored people staged masquerade balls at Christmas time for
entertainment. From there, it developed into playful taunting between the two groups and eventually
the tradition evolved to mark the approaching Catholic Lenten season. Unable to participate, the West
African slaves of the planters held their own masked festivals, focused around the burning and reaping
of the sugar cane. For all groups, mockery and veneer played a great role in the custom ( Birth
Evolution of Trinidad Carnival ). Following the slave emancipation in 1838, Canboulay was viewed as
a symbol of independence and defiance. Over time this converged with stickfighting, chanting, and
drumming, and the rituals of Canboulay became something of a masquerade. After great conflict with
the British colonial government, who were insistent on banning drumming, masquerade, and the steel
pan the festival was eventually adopted as a symbol of Trinidadian culture during the independence
movement ( The Birth Evolution of Trinidad Carnival ). A great deal of the musical aspect of

The Color Red In Beloved By Toni Morrison
The color, red, symbolizes a variety of different meanings like the quote from an unknown source,
Red, the single most dynamic and passionate color, symbolizes love, rage and courage. Demanding
attention, red has great emotional impact. Those who select red are aggressive, impulsive and strive
for success. In the novel, Beloved, by Toni Morrison, the author demonstrates the color red for the
future, memories, and hope. The main character Sethe, had a baby girl named Beloved, after her
youngest daughter, Denver. Before, she was able to show her love and affection to Beloved, she ended
her misery and fate by slitting her throat open. In 124, the house was considered spiteful and full of a
baby s venom . Due to the killing of her baby, Beloved haunts the whole house with a quote from the
novel, Now the iron was back but the face, softened by hair, made him trust her enough to step inside
her door smack into a pool of pulsing red light. (Morrison, 11). The glowing aura is significant to the
tragedy that took place in 124. At the beginning of first chapter, it already gives the readers the sense
of what took place and the imagery of the situation. The quote represents how the baby ghost is ready
to react to a stranger, which is Paul D. from Sweet Home, a slave plantation. Another quote form the
author, The red was gone but a kind of weeping clung to the air where it had been. (Morrison, 11).

The Importance Of Identity In My Life
What is Identity? For almost everyone, they would say that it is who you are. But, it means so much
more. Identity is the experiences that will influence your life. Your identity is who you are and the
decisions you make. Without identity, you wouldn t be who you are today. Your identity can change in
a matter of seconds, and there is no way to ensure one s outcome
In my life, I have had various events that contribute to my identity. One of the biggest events that have
affected my life is when I had my first seizure. I was around the age of five. It was around 5 at night,
and I was at my babysitter s house. That night when we were eating dinner, I know that I didn t like
the type of pizza it was because it was supreme. Once I had finished my breadstick, I was going to
grab another one. In an instant, my babysitter, Laurie, had slapped my hand. I didn t cry, but it did
make me upset because she could have said no. After a couple of minutes, my vision became very
blurry, and all I could hear was a ringing noise. My body went numb, and all of a sudden everything
went black. When I came to I was on the floor with a throbbing headache. My babysitter had already
called my mother, and she was already on her way to the house. She only worked a couple minutes
away from her house so it didn t take very long for her to arrive there. When she came inside the
house, she looked scared. She kept asking me what happened, but I had no idea. She then grabbed my

How the Properties of Water are Related to Its Roles in Living Organisms and as a Living
Environment for Living Organisms
Over 70% of the world s surface is covered by water, 95% of which consists of salty oceans; water is
essential to all life forms. A molecule of water consists of two hydrogen atoms covalently bound to
one atom of oxygen which gives a formula of H2O. When water molecules are close together their
positive and negative regions are attracted to the oppositely charged regions of nearby molecules. The
force of attraction, shown in the diagram below as a dotted line, is called a hydrogen bond. Each water
molecule is hydrogen bonded to four others. It is these hydrogen bonds and the ... Show more content

This also means that, compared with air, water releases heat energy slowly when situations cause it to
cool. Water s high specific heat helps organisms to regulate their body temperatures more effectively.
Water vapour is a greenhouse gas, and both the capability to keep heat in and to transfer heat from the
tropics serves to buffer temperatures on Earth. For example, as one half of the Earth rotates away from
the sun the fall in temperature is much more gradual than it would have been if there was no water
vapour in the atmosphere.
As water expands when it freezes it allows ice to float on the surface which creates an insulating layer
on lakes and rivers. This prevents the entire body of water and all the organisms living in it from
freezing. The weak hydrogen bonding means that ice has a lot of empty space. When ice melts the
frozen geometry is removed, but not all the hydrogen bonds are broken. The molecules begin to pack
more closely together to fill some of the empty space. Thus, liquid water is denser than ice. Water has
its greatest density at 4°C and this is why the top of a lake freezes first. The cooler part freezes and the
more dense water at slightly higher temperature sinks to the bottom. This helps to protect fresh water
organisms which live in the bottom. The empty space also means that ice does not conduct heat very

Quotes For Flowers For Algernon
Intelligence or Long Life Today evolution of human intelligence has advanced us to the stage where
most of us are too smart to invent new gods but are reluctant to give up the old ones (Ruth Hurmence
Green). Flowers for Algernon is about a man named Charlie Gordon, he is 37, and has a low IQ of 68.
He will go through an operation that has never been done before. It is supposed to generate Charlie to
three times smarter. A while after he had undergone the operation his mind starts to deteriorate. He
was able to predict that his mind will deteriorate like Algernon s due to a series of experiments he did.
Charlie is better off doing this experiment. Charlie is better of going through the experiment be
because he can now see things clearly for the first time, he has the chance to experience what it is like
to be smart, and he knows how he truly feels. Initially, Charlie was not aware of what was going on
around him. He thought that everyone liked him and was his friend. He also was not very intelligent,
which is why he was oblivious to what was happening around him. After Charlie had the surgery he
was able to now notice that the people he worked with at the factory were not actually his friends. He
found out April 20, I never knew that Joe and Frank and the others liked to have me around all the
time to make fun of me (33 34). Now that he got the procedure he can now tell that his so called
friends, just liked him because they could make fun of him. Another example of him noticing things
for the first time is when the doctors were arguing Charlie felt that he know saw them for the first
time. He realizes about their personal life, how one has a wife that wants him to be successful and the
other wants some of the glory to. Once again, due to his intelligence, he notices more about the people
he interacts with almost every day. He noticed things that he has never realized, let alone thought
about. Additionally, Charlie now has a chance to be smart. This operation allows Charlie s IQ to triple.
Since Mrs.Kinnian suggested Charlie he got a chance to experience true intelligence, and love. After
the operation, he was able to comprehend more than the doctors, who were before smarter than him.

The Effect of Discrimination on International Students
According to Institute of International Education organization, The United States hosts more of the

The Practice Of Method Acting Has Become No Less Than A...
The practice of method acting has become no less than a cultural phenomenon during the last eighty or
so years. The idea of an actor throwing himself so far into a role that character and man become one
intrigues and horrifies most. Of course, there is more to it than that. The technique of method acting
became prominent in the mid twentieth century thanks to teachers like Lee Strasberg of the Actors
Studio in New York. In essence, the method involves a search for truth in a role, wherein the actor or
actress recalls emotions or reactions from their own life to inform and identify with the character.
While this approach has produced no doubt some of the best performances of the modern age, there
are numerous drawbacks. When an actor dives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His system, introduced in the late 1890s and early 1900s, relied on emotional memory and a search for
inner truth to create great performances. Stanislavski s original system require[d] that an actor recreate
an event from the distant past in order to regenerate the feelings experienced at that time. These
feelings thus regenerated are then used in the current acting situation in order to fill out the role with
human depth and personal involvement . The necessity of the event being from the distant rather than
recent past is because Stanislavski felt (at the time) that time distilled events and feelings, acting as a
splendid filter for remembered feelings. (Sawoski 19.) Interestingly, Stanislavski later changed his
teachings to have a focus on physical actions, revolving around the idea that internal experiences
manifest in physical expression. But, before he changed his tune, two of his students from his First

Budget Management Analysis Essay
Budget Management Analysis This research paper is a brief discussion of budget management

goals or plan into money. Budgeting is a rough estimate of how much a company will need to get their
work done, and provides the basis for evaluating performance, a source of motivation, coordinating
business activities, a tool for management communication and instructions to employees. Without a

The cash budget is another aspect of budget expectation. The cash budget determines how much cash
an organization have on hand, and how much is needed to meet each expense. The cash budget will
reveal to companies the availability of any type of surplus the company has for short term
investments.
Capital expenditure budget. This budget is needed when an organization needs to invest in major
projects and equipments, such as purchases of new products, new information technology systems, in
which a management team will conduct a financial evaluation to determine whether the company s
return on investments will be met (Halliman, 2006). Lastly, we have the program budget, which
designate funds to groups that need to achieve specific goals. Program budgets do not allocate funds to
company departments, but to company s activities. Program budgets are very difficult because there
are no specifics to go on, they usually have to go by an estimate, and try to cover all aspects of
possibilities (Halliman, 2006). Since a company s budget is typically based on knowledge from their
financial history therefore, if a budget variance occurs, it can be because inaccurate estimates were
done, or one or more factors have changed unexpectedly, and the company need to make some type of
adjustments to their budget. Once a company discovered a significant budget variance, they will need
to identify the cause, and address it accordingly. For example,

The Importance of Women Linda K. Kerber s Women of the...
When considering the American Revolution most histories fail to recognize both sides of the fight for
liberty. Men were certainly the central figures; however could they have succeeded without the
periphery support of women? In her book, Women of the Republic: Intellect and Ideology in
Revolutionary America, Linda K. Kerber explores the contribution of women to the war and
demonstrates the rising of Republican Motherhood during and following the war. Through this
ideology, women merged their traditional roles with their new sense of civic duty. In the beginning

At the beginning of the struggle in America, women s citizenship was not given serious consideration.
Women were invisible in the political sphere and were seen to have no capacity where politics were
concerned. When the war occurred, the role of women vastly changed. They were leaders off the
battlefield. Women began to question their role in the political arena. Could a woman have a political
thought? Could women be patriots? Must a wife s political loyalty be the same as her husband s? Once
the Revolution succeeded, these questions were pushed away. Women had played the role of
Republican Mother and completed their duty in helping the war effort, they did not need a more
significant political role. Although women realized they had the potential to have a political mind,
Kerber uses the legal processes of confiscation, coverture, and divorce to explain how women s
political identities were still tied to the role of wife. The American Revolution was a fight for liberty
and freedom, unless you were a woman. As long as those three processes remained intact women
would not gain freedom. In her next chapter, Kerber examines the newfound need for the educating of
women. Women were not allowed freedom or a political opinion, but they could not be completely
pushed aside. For years women had been taught that education made them undesirable to men and
educated women were scorned. Kerber argues that a new need for

you are being hunted throughout these chapters, and it concludes with a terrifyingly fun battle.
As well rounded and entertaining the campaign may be, the real reason Gears of War is loved by so
many fans is due to its multiplayer. Gears of War was the defining online game for the Xbox 360, and
Ultimate Edition may soon have that honor on Xbox One (move aside, Call of Duty). Featuring a
massive selection of maps and plenty of game modes to select from, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is
the best online multiplayer game of the franchise.
Competitive (i.e. Ranked Mode) game types include the following: Execution, King of the Hill, Team
Deathmatch, Assassination, and two new game types Blitz and 2v2 Gnasher. Blitz is a modified King
of the Hill that requires the player to stay in the ring at all times. A common tale among Gears of War
players is the time they were challenged to a 1 on 1 shotgun battle. Well, now you have a mode
dedicated to exactly that. 2v2 Gnasher is exactly what it sounds like a shotgun battle. Social game
types include: Warzone, Team Deathmatch, and King of the

God s Servant St Francesco Essay
St. Francesco of Assisi was an ordinary man who did incredible things. Francesco gave up his wealth
and comfort along with everything he owned to live in poverty. He worked through adversity to do
great things including founding a religious order, the Franciscans. He traveled many places, including
Rome and Syria, touching many people s lives as he went about. Overall, St. Francesco is a great
example to anyone who wants to be more like Christ and spread the faith. Francesco embodies the life
of a pure follower of Christ. From his birth God seemed to keep an eye on him and though Francesco.
How did Francesco former sinful life prepare him for his new life in Christ? How did his father
cutting him off affect him? How did he amass such a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shocking everyone who saw, Francesco returned home where his father scolded him for what he
perceived as foolishness . Still Francesco spared some money for the poor whenever he could, causing
him to be laughed at yet appreciated by his friends Influenced by his life in the Age of Chivalry and
the stories told by his father, Francesco desired to become a Knight. In 1201 He joined a military
expedition against Perugia and was taken as a prisoner at Collestrada, spending a year as a captive.
Francesco never lost his spirit during his captivity and was held for ransom due to his wealth. The
previous experience did not change Francesco desire to be a Knight. A call for knights to join the
Fourth Crusade presented Francesco with a second opportunity to achieve his dream of Glory. Before
he left his father bought him a horse and armor decorated with gold with a magnificent cloak. But
Francesco never got farther than one day s ride from Assisi. There he had a dream in which God told
him he had it all wrong and told him to return home. And return home he did. What must it have been
like to return without ever making it to battle the boy who wanted nothing more than to be liked was
humiliated, laughed at, called a coward by the village and raged at by his father for the money wasted
on armor. Distaste and contempt for his world

Margaret Atwood s Oryx And Crake
In Margaret Atwood s Oryx and Crake, Atwood constructs a futuristic, desolate setting that is dictated
by pharmaceutical companies. These corporations take advantage of the citizens by administering
vitamins that contain various diseases, which require expensive treatments, essentially exploiting the
lower class citizens; known as pleebands, for every last cent they re worth before slowly sending them
to their deathbed. She uses the setting in the story in order to accentuate the separation of the classes
and put emphasis on how numbers people are highly valued, living in compounds contrary to the
words people who are disregarded completely, left to fend for themselves in the city. Several recurring
themes are used to convey her message ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The setting of the story occurs in two different places, at a washed up beach where Snowman is
residing, and also in compounds depicted through flashbacks of Jimmy s childhood. Setting
furthermore plays a tremendous role in illustrating the separation of the two main social classes. The
rich live in protected compounds, with top notch schooling, readily available food, and no worries of a
looming virus while the poor live in rundown, disease prone environments with low paying jobs.
Along with depicting the separation of the social classes, setting also reinforces the theme of isolation.
One quote referring to seclusion in the setting that really stood out to me was Toast is burnt, dry and
desolate witch symbolizes Jimmy s relationships with his close ones and it also very much symbolizes
the world surrounding Jimmy. (Unknown). This quote is referring to when Snowman explains toast to
the children of crake Toast was a pointless invention from the Dark Ages. Toast was an implement of
torture that caused all those subjected to it to regurgitate in verbal form the sins and crimes of their
past lives. Toast was a ritual item devoured by fetishists in the belief that it would enhance their
kinetic and sexual powers. Toast cannot be explained by any rational means. Toast is me. (Atwood).
Initially, I did not think that the setting was of much significance, but after further analyzing the
setting it becomes evident that Atwood is using the setting to portray the social

Soccer Vs Neo Colonialism
Every year I feel an all too familiar itch. Some people may think I need to see a doctor, but I know that
the only real cure is to sit on my couch in front of my large screened TV with some kind of greasy
potato product and barley fermented beverage. The dose is to be administered every week between the
hours of 1 PM EST on Sunday until 1 am Tuesday morning. That s right, folks. I ve got a itch, and the
only cure is more NFL football. When September rolls around and the weather becomes seasonably
cooler, the leaves on the trees begin to change color, the air becomes crisper and has a distinguishable
smell that can only be experienced and not described. The days become shorter, the weeks feel longer
and the longing begins for the weekend when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, Africa s cultural identity has been what sociologist Ulf Hannerz calls creolized (6), which,
as seen in the history of soccer, can be yet another facet for neo colonialism. From these roots of
colonialism and neo colonialism grew the sport of soccer. Initially, in the 1860s it was introduced by
Britain in South Africa (Armstrong Football 8) and other countries, such as France and Portugal,
followed in other regions. Associated colonizing individuals and groups including missionaries,
teachers, soldiers, and other colonial settlers acted as prime catalysts (8). Africans would watch white
Europeans play and then apply what they learned in their own local township games using bundles of
rags as makeshift balls (9). Teams and leagues were formed, as were rivalries, different styles of play,
and different philosophies on the game. In 1923, African football began to be recognized
internationally as a rising power when Egypt was accepted into the Fédération Internationale de
Football Association (FIFA) and three more national associations (Sudan, South Africa, and Ethiopia)
were later accepted, until 1957 when the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) was founded (9).
Today, CAF has grown into a 52 member association, the largest continental governing body in the
world (9). African soccer seemed

Postcolonial Literature In Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart
Postcolonial literature was written during the time period when European countries began colonizing
Africa on the premise that the Africans were savages and needed help to become more civilized. The
Europeans believed that they would achieve this by setting up governments similar to their own,
ignoring the ones the African tribes already had set up, and forcefully converting them to Christianity,
much to the Africans dismay. In response, the Africans could not do much to dispel the white people
from their lands, so some wrote postcolonial literature to display their grievances against the whites.
Chinua Achebe s, Things Fall Apart, is a great example. Within this postcolonial literature there are
numerous reasons as to why it is so, like decolonization struggles, appropriation of colonial language,
and colonization. In Things Fall Apart, Chinua Achebe gives multiple examples of decolonization
struggles, or when the Igbo people fought against the white colonization. An early example in the
book would be when contact with Europeans first occurred. In the village of Abame, a white man
came riding on a bicycle (a never before seen object to the Africans). The people of Abame consulted
their gods on what to do with this strange man, and given the answer that he and his kind would cause
destruction, they killed him. Unfortunately, this little act of resistance was tiny compared to the wrath
of the Europeans. After his murder, other white men and their loyal Africans came to the

One of the solutions to solve the lacking resources and native plant for agriculture and farming is that

Care Ethics Case Study
Care ethics focuses on the idea to maintain relationships by contextualizing and promoting the
wellbeing of caregivers and care receivers in a network of social relations (Staudt, Care Ethics). For
example, in a mother child relationship the mother would be the caregiver and the child would be the
care receiver. Then the roles would switch when the mother would become elderly and the child is
grown up. Care ethics is known for being a moral theory from the work of psychologist Carol Gilligan
and philosopher Nel Noddings.
Gilligan did an experiment called the Heinz dilemma. This is where children are asked whether a man
should steal a drug for his dying wife. The boy said he should while the girl said he should not.
Gilligan speaking from a male perspective deemed that women did not mature as quick as men did.
Noddings rejected this and stated that there is a female perspective to care ethics which worked
around relationships. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Noddings argued that caring should be a foundation for ethical decision (Staudt, Care Ethics). All
humans fall under two categories: caregivers or care receivers. From the beginning we enter that
mother child relationship. By being in that caring relationship we want to remain and preserve that
relationship. Thus that will be our motivation to be moral in order to remain in the caring relation and
to enhance the ideal of ourselves as one caring (Noddings 1984: 4 5). She also rejected societies
universal viewpoints of genders. She claimed that everyone has the right accept, reject or change
characteristics about themselves. Noddings believed would actually put limitations on us because we
had to be specific characteristics. And if we do not we would not be considered as a man or woman .
Although most of her work was from the feminine point of view in some cases it could be applied to

Cold War Dbq
Consisting of 44 years of violence and civil unrest from 1947 to 1991, the Cold War was a huge
turning point in history. The Cold War however was a war of avoidance, not combat. Defence systems
were heavily funded as deterrence to actual war, the belief being a risk of mutual annihilation would
be too great to be the side to make the first move. However, the Cold War caused a large variety of
conflict and civil unrest around the world, such as the Korean War, Vietnam War and the Cuban
Missile Crisis. The War split the world into supporting either the United States, or the USSR (Soviet
Union). Both superpowers were associated with two very different political systems; Capitalism and
Communism. The Soviets were very concerned about the spread ... Show more content on

Many Americans believed that the war ravaged country of Vietnam, had to be resurrected from grave.
Beginning in 1964 and growing in later years, anti war protests began forming. Outrage from civilians
erupted when President Johnson issued the draft, as he felt the Americans needed to take a more
aggressive action against North Vietnam. Young men refused to join the fight and protests emitted
from college campuses and major cities such as Washington D.C. and New York. ((n.d.). Retrieved
from http://www.texasgateway.org) and ((n.d.). Retrieved from http://avuth15.wix.com/thecoldwar are
both primary sources illustrating anti war protests, showing the outrage that America had towards the
war. By 1968, the whole country had felt the war s impact. When the war finally ceased and the troops
returned home, the protests, the actions by the government and the war itself, had taken a toll on the
country. America s opinions were sharply turned against the war. The veterans who fought bravely in
the war, returned to a nation that was bitter towards anything related to the war. Today, a Vietnam War
memorial has been erected in Washington, to honor those who sacrificed their life for their country. As
shown in ((n.d.). Retrieved from http://www.english.illinois.edu), the Vietnam Veterans Memorial was
built to honor the U.S defence members who died in service in South East Asia. As a result, the social

Love Exposed In James Baldwin s If Beale Street Could Talk
A world full of hatred, lies, and discrimination can make life a bit
unbearable. Nevertheless, as it is demonstrated in If Beale Street Could Talk , by James
Baldwin, if one possesses the power of love one can withstand almost anything that comes his or
her way. This does not mean simply having love between a man and a woman; but also having
parental and even human love. If someone has love from all three sources, then the
world wouldn t seem as bad as people make it out to be.

Fonny s only hope in winning this case was his alibi and hopefully his lawyer;
who eventually became close with Tish s family. He tried everything in his power to
help release Fonny and keep the cost down. But they did not succeed. Fonny was eventually
released on bail after multiple family members took on extra jobs, and his father began stealing
goods from work to sell. Once Fonny was released everyone thought everything could go back to
normal; but they were mistaken. The only question left to ask, would Fonny be proven innocent
or guilty?
While Tish was down and all hope was lost, it was love that helped her overcome
adversity. For example having her father s love and support the entire time. She recalls him
saying to her,
Get that baby here, safe and sound. We ll get Fonny out of jail. I promise. (Baldwin 134)
Also the memories of Fonny kept her going. Fonny was always there for her, to love her, to
care for her, and to protect her. Tish carrying a child and Fonny being in
jail, made her realize just how much she actually loved and why they both fell for each
other. The love that Tish had is what kept her believing that things could get

Frame Narrative In Beowulf
Early English literature proceeds from orally transmitted storytelling, relying on the construction of an
epic past to develop a sense of patriotism within the country. As written culture becomes more
prevalent, however, this genre s timeless attribute diminishes due an increase in recorded history
which gradually turns literature s focus from mystical origins to a concrete present. Frame narrative,
or stories within a story, exist prevalently within the epic genre, but persist throughout this transition,
generally preserving structure, but mutating in function. Although early literature forms like the epic
employ frame narratives to convey their grandiose style, the transition from historical epics to satirical
poetry aligns with frame narrative s transition as an element of style to one of theme. In British oral
tradition, storytelling mainly serves to instill patriotic zeal within citizens. The advent of literacy
results in the transcription of these stories, which predominantly take the form of the epic: an origin
story in which an epic hero displays heroic acts in a setting with few temporal cues, disconnecting the
story from any specific point in history. Beowulf, one such epic, exhibits these properties, with events
transpiring without indication of the relative passage of time. One literary device which lends itself to
the manifestation of this quality, the frame narrative, muddles the reader s perspective of time by
constantly by jumping between events in the main

like a temporary file only. This is because in Windows operating system the option Hide Extensions
for Known File types is marked with a check (activated) by default. The user will never notice the .exe
extension file, the only thing the user will notice was the .tmp and this trick is called extension

After running the uTorrent.exe 3.4.0 I in Sandboxie I was still not satisfied with the results. The next
step I executed the uTorrent 3.4.0 in a clean copy of Windows Vista and dumped the RAM to see if
these malware do really exist. After allowing the uTorrent.exe ran for awhile in a clean Windows Vista
OS, I then used the tool called DumpIt.exe to dump the memory RAM for later examination. To read
the strings and data in raw memory dump I used the tool called HxD (hexeditor). After examining the
raw dump memory I found numerous packers, scrambler, encrypter and junk code that came with
uTorrent.exe 3.4.0.
As you can from the image, all these reside in the memory after installing the uTorrent.exe. What is
interesting is they re all sitting there silently without the user s knowledge.
Next I followed the name AHTeam which stands for Alien Hack Team. According to their website

  • 2. The Importance Of Youth Work Activities During our time studying in the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu critical decisions regarding youth work practice were made. One of these decisions was staying to wait for our boat to the island of Savo. Many of the group woke up early to be at the port in time to catch our boat to be told that we would be waiting at least another hour. During the wait the group found a comfortable spot and relaxed. After the hour ended the group went back to the port in time to catch the boat however, we ended up waiting another 45 minutes there as the boat needed fuel. Although waiting in humid 30 degree heat is difficult, patience and resilience were shown by all group members and it provided an important learning opportunity for me which I will take into my youth work practice. This wait was not our first nor last in the Pacific Islands and by the end of the trip I understood what island time was. By waiting for the boat without complaint the group embraced the relaxed Pacific Islander culture. This had positive effects throughout the day as once we had left the port, the day ran smoothly. Any issue with the wait may have caused tension between the group and Paul or David who were our tour guides for the day. This was not the first time the group had been kept waiting on the trip, although we had only been there for a few days. The first was on our initial night in Honiara at the church, in which the service started 45 minutes to an hour late. During this wait I asked the young person I was ... • 4. How Canada Remained Independent of Foreign Control but... How successful Canada was on remaining independent of foreign control, whilst being a part of international decision making. Canada remained independent of foreign control a majority of the time, but at others it did give in to the pressure put upon it. Canada also got to be a big part of the decision making because it put itself out there, got recognized as a middle power and proved its worth. Some of the ways Canada remained independent of foreign control are: When president Reagan s administration had a project they were trying to get Canada involved in called the Strategic Defence Initiative (SDI, but also referred to as Star Wars). This was a plan to arm satellites that could destroy soviet missiles from space. Not many people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When NORAD was put in place during 1985 many Canadians were angered because they felt it threatened Canadian independence and since the soviet missiles would be intercepted and destroyed over Canada, Canada would be the one facing damage and destruction, not the US, but despite this, Canada has maintained its commitment to NORAD. Canada and Americas economies are very alike, to this day. In 1945 when the UN was officially founded, Canada argues to be made a middle power, meaning they would get recognition for being capable of holding their own, and the contribution they made during World War II. Canada is very well known for their participation in every UN peacekeeping operation. Lester B. Pearson even won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1957. When Egypt nationalized the Suez Canal, Britain, France and Israel made a secret pact to invade Egypt. Israel attacked Egypt while Britain and France took over the Canal. The situation grew tense when many countries denounced the invasion. Lester B. Pearson proposed to the UN that Britain, France and Israel withdraw their troops and the UN send a peacekeeping army into Egypt. His proposal was accepted. Canada also adapted a new flag, which in a way was to show they had completely detached themselves from Britain. In 1949 Canada had signed the NATO treaty. Hopefully, bank loan is not the only source of funding available; friends and family savings may help a business project too. Alternative finance methods are the peer to peer lending and the invoice financing, the equity finance and the government grants. However, any prospected businessman has to be really careful to choose the most appropriate funding body for its business since any source of funding you may choose has different advantages and disadvantages. It seems that when people lack any other source of financing, they ask their family or their close friends to contribute in order to develop their business plans. According to Curran and Blackburn (1993), family loans account for some 15 percent of start up finance, amongst ethic owned businesses in the UK, making it the largest source of funds after the bank loans (Basu et al., 2013: 333). One good reason to finance your business project in cooperation with your family or friends is the increased feeling of liability. This will definitely help you to develop your own skills, responsibilities and a long standing character. On the other hand, family finance can be a really dangerous option if momentous clashes suddenly appear between family members. The family bank and family relationships will eventually be damaged or destroyed (Babcock, 2013). Another popular financial method is the peer to peer lending. Nonetheless, joint tenancy is particularly beneficial when property is transferred from one party to another mainly in families to escape probate and expensive legal fees (Conway, 2008). Albeit, Peter should have consulted with his co owners to enter a unilateral severance of the joint tenancy with rights of survivorship agreement and subsequently formed a tenancy in common giving him the rights to will his portion to Andrew. Therefore, I would advise Martin that the survivorship agreement is still intact, making him the last surviving tenant, however, Andrew s portion that was bequeathed to him by his father would be void in my opinion and therefore, the foreclosure should be argued based on Peter was not a legal owner (Conway,2008). Additionally, Martin mentions that he has not been to the property in 20 years, and when he decided to drive up to the mountain to enjoy some fly fishing a bullet whizzed past his heads, when he approached the property. Otis quickly told him to get off his property that he has lived on for 20 years, even though Martin informed him that the property belonged to him and he has the deed. Once again, I share with Martin, that Otis believes that he is the rightful owner of the property through adverse possession because he has lived on the land for 20 years openly and notorious (Kubasek et al.,2016). Beowulf Comparison Beowulf, a tale of a warrior who is graced with unworldly powers that comes to the rescue of Hrothgar, the king of the Danes whose land is being invaded by monster named Grendel. This tale is so famous they had to make it into both a poem and a movie. Though the movie had been derived from the poem as most movies are there were many differences and similarities that stood out. Usually when a book or poem gets made into a movie there are many differences and similarities. That is one of the reasons why I was not surprised to see that the movie was very different from the poem, this was due to the changes in the plot of the movie. One big difference in the movie was that Hrothgar was never the father of Grendel. There is never any mention of either Hrothgar or Beowulf ever being involved with or being by any way related to Grendel or the dragon. While on the subject of fathers, Grendel s mother was never described as being covered in gold and looking like Angelina Jolie, either. But in all reality it is not true in the movie but in the epic he truly does slay her in her underwater cave . Instead of killing her he had a sexual relationship with her leading her to bear his child which in the end is found out to be the dragon which he kills but who also kills him. Essay on analysis of distrust between the sexes Brody Carrasco Professor Ferguson English 61208 6 October 2014 An Analysis of Dr. Horney s The Distrust between the Sexes In Dr. Horney s The Distrust Between the Sexes, she explains the several psychological reasons for the unease in a relationship. Dr. Horney explains the discomfort in a couple s bond with three causes. Horney argues there are individual factors that causes poor relationships between men and women that might be pertinent ones (340). The reality of what she argues however is in her commonplace theories. These theories help give the reader better comprehension of the problems or distrusts in a relationship. Dr. Horney s second cause, as she explains, can be traced to certain traits of male psychology (343). The basic paradox of man s attitude towards women is, even men who consciously have a very positive relationship with women and hold them high in high esteem as human beings. They get this from the experience they had from their mothers. Then, she goes to the attitudes of men towards women during various eras of history and in different cultures. Also, she insists in regards to sexual relationships with women, but also, and often more so, in nonsexual situations, such as in their general evaluation of women (344). She then gives us an example: Adam and Eve. She tells us that the Old Testament is outspokenly patriarchal. She argues that there is no maternal goddess. Then, she goes on to remind that the two stories in the bible are both male bias. She thinks that the stories of Adam and Eve have damaged the relationship between the sexes from the earliest times to the present with two elements: one born out of resentment, the other out of anxiety. The last clause, as Dr.Horney explains, is the sexual tensions of men and women. Horney tells us that the tension starts at the origin then progresses through the childhood. Our understanding of the origin enables us to understand better the fear of love that many of us ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of the themes are, but not limited to objectification, ageism, and dismemberment which are the tropes that I have decided to focus on for this research project. The message of this ad can be interpreted as a women s face being the only important part of her and everything else appears to be in the shadows or darkness because it is less important. This is a great example of Objectification Theory, (Fredrickson and Roberts, 1997) which states that women are seen as objects, and therefore sexualized, so that they can be used by others. This woman s face is the only important part of her. The slogan of the ad is a miracle sleeping cream/for more rested, younger looking skin, which is relaying a message that beauty is for the young and that their product performs miracles. Additionally, it suggests that staying young and beautiful are synonymous as well as a job that a woman has to work at even when they are unconscious because youth/beauty is a 24 hour obsession. There is no real testing or laws surrounding these products and how they are advertised. At least none that I can find. Saying that it is an old product and it is doctor approved means nothing, and yet we still trust it. There is also a stamp that endorses the product to suggest the legitimacy of it because it reads quality tested / good housekeeping / since 1909 which insinuates that women are a thing to keep maintained like a house and it reinforces stereotypes of women being ... The abstract expressionist movement, with artists such as Mark Rothko and Bernat Newman were articulating a response to an apocalyptic era in which selfhood, not to mention art, was dwarfed by the enormity of manifold historical cataclysm including the Great Depression, the Second World War and the mass tension of the Cold War. Clyfford Still, on the other hand objective was not to express the relationship between the past, the individual or the organic life force embodied by the art, but his answer was to internalize the awful forces outside until despair and revelation occurred. Reflecting on Religious Expression and School Prayer Essay This country is comprised of individuals from various ethnic backgrounds, socioeconomic groups, sexual orientations, and faith traditions. Whether it relates to race, class, religion or any other category where one resides in the dominant group, it is tempting not to become oppressive and fail to show mutual respect to the diverse cultures and beliefs of other groups. Furthermore, as educational leaders, we must be equipped with knowledge around policies related to the above mentioned, so that we can enforce such and build upon those that need refining. There have been various acts across schools within this country to discriminate and demean students within schools because they follow faith traditions different than that of the dominant group. Thus, it is important to realize that though as a school body one cannot endorse or promote one religion or faith tradition over another, as educational leaders we also should not engage in discrimination and disrespect for faith believes that do not align with ours or allow other students and staff to engage in such. Rather we must work to promote multicultural acceptance and mutual respect, celebrating the rich diversity among all individuals and groups. Landmark Cases There are three landmark cases most relevant to the discussion on religious expression and school prayer. Engle v. Vitale is a case where the Court held that recitation of a prayer composed by the New York State Board of Regents, which was to be said in the presence of a teacher at the beginning of school each day, was unconstitutional and in violation of the Establishment Clause. First one must understand that the basis of this name is hero. What is a hero? A hero is a person who does something special or out of the ordinary in order to help others. It could also be someone who is admired for a characteristic about them, be it physical or mental. They are individuals that normal everyday people can look up to. Back towards the beginning of American history we see superheroes arising for the first time in our culture. They were not necessarily able to fly or see through walls. However, they were still extraordinary people. Their stories were passed from father to son and the story grew with every telling. People like Paul Bunyan and Pecos Bill were just two of the many tales of the time which spoke of men doing extraordinary things. These tales wouldn t excite forever, though. As years go by our country and its people become less and less naïve and craved more. A giant man with a blue ox and an axe just could not suffice. People become more and more numb to pain and murder, and needed more than these tall tales. It was soon after this that people began looking for someone else to admire, whether they were real or not. Someone who they can not overcome. Someone who will lead them and help them be who they were meant to be. Some look to politicians, others to mob leaders, but either way they are just looking for answers. This became harder for the youth to find. Sure they had their mothers and fathers, but they could only do so much for them. Then comic books and television came into play. Here they could see these seemingly ordinary people doing amazing things. They wanted to be just like them. It gave them structure and a feeling of guidance. They knew what they wanted to do and they began trying to do it. Now, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Birth Evolution Of Trinidad Carnival Beginning in the late 1700s, the festival known as Carnival was introduced to various parts of the world as a public celebration or parade that involved the use of masks, musical elements, costumes and more. Dating back to the 18th century, the Trinidad Carnival was introduced around the time of the arrival of the French Catholic planters from the French West Indies. The festival originated in the early 1780s when both white and colored people staged masquerade balls at Christmas time for entertainment. From there, it developed into playful taunting between the two groups and eventually the tradition evolved to mark the approaching Catholic Lenten season. Unable to participate, the West African slaves of the planters held their own masked festivals, focused around the burning and reaping of the sugar cane. For all groups, mockery and veneer played a great role in the custom ( Birth Evolution of Trinidad Carnival ). Following the slave emancipation in 1838, Canboulay was viewed as a symbol of independence and defiance. Over time this converged with stickfighting, chanting, and drumming, and the rituals of Canboulay became something of a masquerade. After great conflict with the British colonial government, who were insistent on banning drumming, masquerade, and the steel pan the festival was eventually adopted as a symbol of Trinidadian culture during the independence movement ( The Birth Evolution of Trinidad Carnival ). How the Properties of Water are Related to Its Roles in Living Organisms and as a Living Environment for Living Organisms Over 70% of the world s surface is covered by water, 95% of which consists of salty oceans; water is essential to all life forms. A molecule of water consists of two hydrogen atoms covalently bound to one atom of oxygen which gives a formula of H2O. When water molecules are close together their positive and negative regions are attracted to the oppositely charged regions of nearby molecules. The force of attraction, shown in the diagram below as a dotted line, is called a hydrogen bond. Each water molecule is hydrogen bonded to four others. It is these hydrogen bonds and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This also means that, compared with air, water releases heat energy slowly when situations cause it to cool. Water s high specific heat helps organisms to regulate their body temperatures more effectively. Water vapour is a greenhouse gas, and both the capability to keep heat in and to transfer heat from the tropics serves to buffer temperatures on Earth. For example, as one half of the Earth rotates away from the sun the fall in temperature is much more gradual than it would have been if there was no water vapour in the atmosphere. As water expands when it freezes it allows ice to float on the surface which creates an insulating layer on lakes and rivers. This prevents the entire body of water and all the organisms living in it from freezing. The weak hydrogen bonding means that ice has a lot of empty space. When ice melts the frozen geometry is removed, but not all the hydrogen bonds are broken. The molecules begin to pack more closely together to fill some of the empty space. Thus, liquid water is denser than ice. Water has its greatest density at 4°C and this is why the top of a lake freezes first. The cooler part freezes and the more dense water at slightly higher temperature sinks to the bottom. This helps to protect fresh water organisms which live in the bottom. The empty space also means that ice does not conduct heat very well ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the Animal Rights Leaflet there is a main image of a dog on the front, which I think appears to be crying. This looks the part and the dog really does look sad. This attracts attention as if the dog was crying for help. The use of colour is used well as the picture of the dog is a golden brown shade, which is very attractive I would say. People will instantly want to read this leaflet because of the expression on the dog s face. On the back of the leaflet there is picture of a mouse with some sort of growth coming off its side, I suspect that this is a tumour of some sorts. Personally I don t find this disturbing but a vast majority of the public will do and will never want that to happen again so they will want to pledge money to help stop animal experimentation. There is another picture of a monkey of some sorts and it appears to be very sad as if it has been tortured etc. I think the choice of pictures on this leaflet is rather good and will help put the point across to the reader. • 36. The Practice Of Method Acting Has Become No Less Than A... The practice of method acting has become no less than a cultural phenomenon during the last eighty or so years. The idea of an actor throwing himself so far into a role that character and man become one intrigues and horrifies most. Of course, there is more to it than that. The technique of method acting became prominent in the mid twentieth century thanks to teachers like Lee Strasberg of the Actors Studio in New York. In essence, the method involves a search for truth in a role, wherein the actor or actress recalls emotions or reactions from their own life to inform and identify with the character. While this approach has produced no doubt some of the best performances of the modern age, there are numerous drawbacks. When an actor dives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His system, introduced in the late 1890s and early 1900s, relied on emotional memory and a search for inner truth to create great performances. Stanislavski s original system require[d] that an actor recreate an event from the distant past in order to regenerate the feelings experienced at that time. These feelings thus regenerated are then used in the current acting situation in order to fill out the role with human depth and personal involvement . The necessity of the event being from the distant rather than recent past is because Stanislavski felt (at the time) that time distilled events and feelings, acting as a splendid filter for remembered feelings. (Sawoski 19.) Interestingly, Stanislavski later changed his teachings to have a focus on physical actions, revolving around the idea that internal experiences manifest in physical expression. But, before he changed his tune, two of his students from his First Studio, Ri chard Boleslavsky and Maria Ouspenskaya, immigrated to the United States and began teaching the Stanislavski Method to American students at the American Laboratory Theatre in 1925. One of their students, Lee Strasberg, later used Stanislavski s theory of Emotional Memory to teach Affective Memory at the Actor s Studio, even though Stanislavski himself had long since rejected those original ideas. Kerber explores the contribution of women to the war and demonstrates the rising of Republican Motherhood during and following the war. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the beginning of the struggle in America, women s citizenship was not given serious consideration. Women were invisible in the political sphere and were seen to have no capacity where politics were concerned. When the war occurred, the role of women vastly changed. They were leaders off the battlefield. Women began to question their role in the political arena. Could a woman have a political thought? Could women be patriots? Must a wife s political loyalty be the same as her husband s? Once the Revolution succeeded, these questions were pushed away. Women had played the role of Republican Mother and completed their duty in helping the war effort, they did not need a more significant political role. Although women realized they had the potential to have a political mind, Kerber uses the legal processes of confiscation, coverture, and divorce to explain how women s political identities were still tied to the role of wife. The American Revolution was a fight for liberty and freedom, unless you were a woman. As long as those three processes remained intact women would not gain freedom. In her next chapter, Kerber examines the newfound need for the educating of women. Women were not allowed freedom or a political opinion, but they could not be completely pushed aside. For years women had been taught that education made them undesirable to men and educated women were scorned. Kerber argues that a new need for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Postcolonial Literature In Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart Postcolonial literature was written during the time period when European countries began colonizing Africa on the premise that the Africans were savages and needed help to become more civilized. The Europeans believed that they would achieve this by setting up governments similar to their own, ignoring the ones the African tribes already had set up, and forcefully converting them to Christianity, much to the Africans dismay. In response, the Africans could not do much to dispel the white people from their lands, so some wrote postcolonial literature to display their grievances against the whites. Chinua Achebe s, Things Fall Apart, is a great example. Within this postcolonial literature there are numerous reasons as to why it is so, like decolonization struggles, appropriation of colonial language, and colonization. In Things Fall Apart, Chinua Achebe gives multiple examples of decolonization struggles, or when the Igbo people fought against the white colonization. An early example in the book would be when contact with Europeans first occurred. In the village of Abame, a white man came riding on a bicycle (a never before seen object to the Africans). The people of Abame consulted their gods on what to do with this strange man, and given the answer that he and his kind would cause destruction, they killed him. • 45. Care Ethics Case Study Care ethics focuses on the idea to maintain relationships by contextualizing and promoting the wellbeing of caregivers and care receivers in a network of social relations (Staudt, Care Ethics). For example, in a mother child relationship the mother would be the caregiver and the child would be the care receiver. Then the roles would switch when the mother would become elderly and the child is grown up. Care ethics is known for being a moral theory from the work of psychologist Carol Gilligan and philosopher Nel Noddings. Gilligan did an experiment called the Heinz dilemma. This is where children are asked whether a man should steal a drug for his dying wife. The boy said he should while the girl said he should not. • 49. Frame Narrative In Beowulf Early English literature proceeds from orally transmitted storytelling, relying on the construction of an epic past to develop a sense of patriotism within the country. As written culture becomes more prevalent, however, this genre s timeless attribute diminishes due an increase in recorded history which gradually turns literature s focus from mystical origins to a concrete present. Frame narrative, or stories within a story, exist prevalently within the epic genre, but persist throughout this transition, generally preserving structure, but mutating in function. Although early literature forms like the epic employ frame narratives to convey their grandiose style, the transition from historical epics to satirical poetry aligns with frame narrative s transition as an element of style to one of theme. In British oral tradition, storytelling mainly serves to instill patriotic zeal within citizens. The advent of literacy results in the transcription of these stories, which predominantly take the form of the epic: an origin story in which an epic hero displays heroic acts in a setting with few temporal cues, disconnecting the story from any specific point in history. Beowulf, one such epic, exhibits these properties, with events transpiring without indication of the relative passage of time.
