The document presents a study that used GIS to create geotechnical maps showing bearing capacity and groundwater quality for Al-Imam district in Iraq. Data from 17 test wells up to 10m deep was entered into ArcGIS. The maps showed that bearing capacity generally increased with depth and traveling north, ranging from 2.01 to 16.9 ton/m^2. Groundwater pH ranged from 7.6 to 8.2, indicating alkaline conditions. The maps provide a tool for engineers to preliminarily assess soil properties and aid in foundation design and number of building floors.
