Provide detailed descriptions from chosen examples that
establish…
Clearly state what production technique(s) you think have
been used to create specific soundtrack elements
Setting
When the cutscene starts, you can hear the sound
of an angry mob which is shouting at the people
who are in front of the hanged men and women.
Also there is the ringing of a bell in the
background which rings throughout the cutscene.
Mood
The mood is conveyed through through a drum
beat that slowly gets louder and louder as Altair
(the assassin) gets closer to the guards, which
conveys the feeling that he is going to do
something drastic.
Game genre
The action genre is well conveyed in this cutscene
when the guards start chasing after Altair a
Gregorian style chant stars playing with a fast
paced drum laying in the background, almost
mimicking a fast heartbeat
Narrative
The only narrative in this scene can be heard by
the main guard who says something along the
lines of; “Death will come to those who betray our
cause...”
The lack of narrative is due to the focus on action
within the cutscene, letting actions speak louder
than words.
The mob could have been made by getting one
person to shout in different ways with different
lines and piecing the different lines together to
make a mob sound or possibly getting a bunch of
people together an actually recording them shout
like an actual angry mob.
The drum beat would have been created no doubt
in a studio environment with an actual drum as
this would be the easiest to do. However, It could
also be done by taking a stock drum beat from a
sound library but the chances of finding exactly
what they were looking for might have been
pretty slim.
The Gregorian chant could have been pre-made
and taken from a soundtrack or they may have
actually recorded a choir specifically for the
cutscene. The drum beat (as said before) was
probably recorded live in a sound booth in order
to get specifically what they wanted.
The narrative of the guard was recorded by a non
specific voice actor, who no doubt recorded his
dialogue in a sound booth.
