This document summarizes research on perceptions of community multimedia centers (CMCs) in Mozambique. 309 pictures were collected from 103 interviewees at 55 CMCs. The pictures revealed 3 broad positive themes and 29 specific themes regarding CMCs. Positives included opportunities for learning, work experience, and community impact. Negatives centered around needs for improved financial sustainability, premises/instruments, and access/communication to overcome information isolation. The research aims to inform policymakers and funders on users' perspectives to facilitate improvement actions at CMCs.

Community Multimedia Centres (CMCs) are community-based facilities that offer both community radio broadcasting and telecentre services. A study analyzed 241 semi-structured interviews and 361 photos from CMC users in Mozambique to understand how CMCs are experienced. The majority of positive photos focused on facilities and technology or the users themselves. Most negative photos highlighted issues with facilities and technology, especially problems with the physical space and equipment. The photo-elicitation method provided insights into users' subjective experiences beyond direct questioning.

What is your talk about? This seminar will illustrate various social network analysis (SNA) techniques and measures and their applications to research problems in education. These applications will be illustrated from our own research utilising a range of SNA techniques. What are the key messages of your talk? We will cover some of the ways in which network data can be collected and utilised with other research data to examine the relationships between network measures and other attributes of individuals and organisations, and how it can be linked to other approaches in multiple methods studies. What are the implications for practice or research from your talk? SNA is an approach that draws from theories of social capital to study the relational ties that exist between actors or institutions in a specific context. Such ties might include learning exchanges or advice-seeking interactions. SNA techniques allow researchers to incorporate the interdependence of participants within their research questions, whereas many traditional techniques assume our participants, and their responses to our questions, are independent of one another.

Social Network Analysis: applications for education research

What is your talk about? This seminar will illustrate various social network analysis (SNA) techniques and measures and their applications to research problems in education. These applications will be illustrated from our own research utilising a range of SNA techniques. What are the key messages of your talk? We will cover some of the ways in which network data can be collected and utilised with other research data to examine the relationships between network measures and other attributes of individuals and organisations, and how it can be linked to other approaches in multiple methods studies. What are the implications for practice or research from your talk? SNA is an approach that draws from theories of social capital to study the relational ties that exist between actors or institutions in a specific context. Such ties might include learning exchanges or advice-seeking interactions. SNA techniques allow researchers to incorporate the interdependence of participants within their research questions, whereas many traditional techniques assume our participants, and their responses to our questions, are independent of one another.

This research aims to explore the complex relationships between the production of educational videos, their use in higher education, and the audiences that use them for learning purposes. The researcher conducted participatory action research across 8 case studies and 232 students to generate knowledge around video production and use. Data was collected through questionnaires, observations, interviews, and focus groups. The thesis is organized around themes of the producer, educator, and audience rather than individual cases. Outcomes include a more participatory approach to video production at the university, guidelines for practitioners, consideration of policy changes, and dissemination of findings.

The authors developed three online interactive workbooks using the Articulate platform for social care, early childhood care, and youth and community work students. Students provided real-time feedback on the workbooks through surveys after using each one. The feedback helped troubleshoot technical issues and influenced changes to the subsequent workbooks. Gathering and responding to student feedback required redefining team roles, with the instructional designer becoming more student-focused, the librarian taking on blended library and instructional design skills, and the lecturer receiving more support. This new collaborative model helped improve e-learning adoption across various disciplines.

However, migrants do not fully trust new technologies like maps and sensors to replace human guides when crossing dangerous border areas.
