Number Of Drops Of A Penny Lab Report
Introduction
The number of drops a penny can hold is affected by the type of liquid. Will the number of drops on
the penny until it overflows change if I change the liquid from water to sodium chloride water and by
how much will it change? To investigate this, there needs to be variables that are not changed when
experimenting. The penny is the dependent variable because it depends on the number of drops to
overflow and the drops of the liquid the independent variable as it does not change or depend. The
controlled variables include using the same penny, applying the same amount of pressure on the
dropper for each drop, the height of the drop that is falling onto the penny, and using the same
dropper. The independent variable is changed from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this recent one, how many drops of sodium chloride can a penny hold before it overflows, it turned
out to be the penny can hold 31 drops before it overflows. However these results may not be as
accurate as they are supposed to be and may only be 80 percent accurate. Evaluation/Analysis The
height of the liquid dropping from the dropper may have been from the same height if the hand was
resting on the table/desk for each drop of sodium chloride, however the angles the liquid was dropped
and where (on which part of the penny) it was dropped may make a difference in results. It may
interfere with the amount of force on the water on top of the penny to cause it to move and overflow.
Another error may be with the amount of liquid dispersed on the penny each time (in one squeeze of
the dropper) which also associates with the amount of force exerted as the dropper was squeezed. A
solution this would be to use a dropper than only disperses a certain amount of liquid at a time (the
pressure or force of the squeeze does not make a difference to how much liquid is released). This
would provide more accurate results and not create

William Faulkner s Nobel Prize Acceptance
In his Nobel Prize acceptance speech renowned author William Faulkner stresses the importance of
moving on and curing the human spirit. By using rhetoric Faulkner successfully gives hope to his
audience making them look on the bright side and reminding authors of their power. He proves that if
humanity does not move forward they will be stuck in the gefing pity of the past. William Faulkner
does a very good job at using pathos to show the importance of having hope when all hope is lost.
Making the point that humanity should not live under a curse (William Faulkner Nobel prize
Acceptance speech), the speaker reminds the audience of a time before the war. He makes the claim
that if humanity does not relearn and rebuild what was once there then the will be stuck in the same
old routine. By listening to his advice the audience starts to gain a sense of hope. Faulkner also uses
pathos when he says he refuses to believe that humanity is doomed; he gives them a message of
rehabilitation to endure and prevail. Not only is he giving hope but also he is using pathos to get the
audience to move forward. Throughout the speech he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He uses his credibility as an author to influence others to work harder and help humanity move on. He

reminding him of the courage and honor and hope and pride and compassion and pity and sacrifice
which have been the glory of his past. Using ethos he emphasises the importance of poets and how
strong their connection really is with the rest of the world. Faulkner assures his audience that the pain
will be worth it and writing about hope will help people look forward. He proves that if writer can

Indian Gaming Regulatory Act
Indian gaming can either be casinos, bingo halls, as well as gambling operations. Gambling is an
element of many traditional Indian cultures. The Indian Gaming Regulatory Act categorizes Indian
gaming into three classes, which are I, II, and III. Each gives different regulations. The act has
impacted and caused much controversy among reservations.
The Indian Gaming Regulatory Act was passed in 1988 by Congress. Indian gaming was a concern in
the states. Congress established a system to enable and regulate the gaming and gambling enterprises
of American Indian tribes. Class I is defined as games that are part of tribal ceremonies and
celebrations. It s traditional Indian gaming. Class II includes bingo or anything that is related to bingo,

Regis Mohawk Reservation is located in New York and is adjacent to the Akwesasne reserve in
Canada. The Mohawk think of the entire community to be a whole. St. Regis Mohawk Res. took in
gambling in the 1980 s and has caused much controversy (Zielbauer, 1999). The elected chiefs and the
Warrior Society supported gambling, which the traditional chiefs did not. The Jay Treaty allows the
Mohawk people to pass across the Canada/United States border freely. Problems such as smuggling
cigarettes, drugs and liquor has become a problem on the reservation. New York has also threatened to
collect sales tax from gasoline and cigarettes on the reservation but hasn t. Merchants that are near the
reservation protest that tax free sales is an unfair advantage for Indian owned businesses. The St.
Regis Mohawk Reservation is next to a Superfund site, which is contaminated with toxic chemicals,
therefore the tribe has an advanced environment division.
I think that the IGRA has its positives and negatives. Casinos prey on addicts and alcohol/drug abuse,
but they also bring in billions of dollars that flourishes economic development. The act is appropriate
for its historical context because gaming brings pride to the reservation, such as Native languages,
culture and Indian dance. The thing about Native Americans, is that they are not materialistic people.
Gaming is more than just a source of money, it s an opportunity to gain

Human Neutering And Its Effects On Humans
Imagine losing the reproductive system at the age of twenty five. All humans being unable to
reproduce at a certain age could save the Earth. The Earth is in a very fragile state; Earth is losing its
ability to be a habitat for the human race due to the volume of people living on its surface. There could
be a way to slow down this process though, through human neutering. Human neutering would
decrease overpopulation, allow the earth to reproduce its natural resources, and stop deforestation
from rapidly occurring. A form of human neutering does exist, and it has for a long time. This process
for males is called a vasectomy, this surgery should prevent sperm from entering the seminal track.
For a female it is called a Tubal ligation, this is where the flappoion tubes are pinched shut to prevent
fertilization. In todays world these two surgeries are by choice and not mandatory, if these two
surgeries were strictly enforced upon the human race at the age of twenty five it could save the Earth
from dying early. A decreased population could result in many positive outcomes for the planet. No
matter the location when a person looks straight ahead of themselves to their left, right, or behind
them there is most likely another human being standing around them. The Earth is becoming
overpopulated more quickly then it ever has before. The current world population of about 7 billion is
projected to top 8 billion by 2030, almost all of that growth is expected to come in the

The Repeated Failure of the League of Nations in Keeping...
The Repeated Failure of the League of Nations in Keeping Peace
The League of Nations repeatedly failed in keeping the peace because, first of all Hitler went against
the Treaty of Versailles and started World War 2 yet the League of Nations failed to react. The Treaty
of Versailles also failed because Mussolini in Abyssinia went against the league and Manchuria also
contributed towards the failure to keep the peace. The structure of the league didn t help as the
council only met once a year. The power of the league was very weak as there was no military force.
Finally the lack of strong nations joining the league contributed to the failure of the League of
Nations.

The League of Nations also failed because Mussolini, a dictator from Italy, prepared to invade
Abyssinia. Abyssinia then asked the League for help; while the League of Nations talked to Mussolini
he used the time to send an army into Africa. The League of Nations then suggested giving Abyssinia
to Italy. Mussolini ignored the League of Nations and invaded Abyssinia. In secret however Britain
and France agreed to give Abyssinia to Italy, the Hoare Laval Pact.
Manchuria became a factor or the failure of the League of Nations in 1932 when the Japanese army
invaded Manchuria and threw out the Chinese residents. They then set up their own government called
the  Manchoukuo . When china asked the League of Nations for help it sent a group of officials led
by Lord Lytton to study the problem, this however took a year, but in February 1933 they ordered
Japan to leave Manchuria.
However Japan refused to leave Manchuria and instead left the League of Nations. As many countries
had important trading links with Japan the League of Nations couldn t agree on sanctions or even
ban weapon sales. Britain and France didn t want a war therefore nothing was done. This showed the
League of Nations as weak and powerless therefore adding to the failures and breakdown of the
League of Nations.

Comparing and Contrasting The Passionate Shepherd to His...
Love throughout the years has been interpreted as an intense interpersonal attraction ( I love my
partner ). Love can also refer specifically to the passionate desire and intimacy of romantic love, to the
emotional closeness of familial love, or to the platonic love that defines friendship, to the profound
union or devotion of religious love. Love had been defined by individuals to get close to someone who
have actual feelings for or deeply care about, and one that you will actually risk your life for. But now,
love has been given a bad reputation because now some people are only interested in having non
intimate sex with others. People prefer temporary relationships, instead of dedicating their lives to
their loved ones. These types of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker urges his love to live with him and enjoy the pleasures of the day. Sir Walter Raleigh
wrote a response to this poem in 1600 called The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd. He uses the nymph
as the speaker, responding to the shepherd. There are no clues to the setting or the nymph s physical
appearance. The themes of this poem are doubt and the point that time changes things. The nymph
thinks realistically and refutes the ideas of the idyllic world the shepherd had proposed to her. The
shepherd seems to be very much of an optimist, whereas the nymph is very pessimistic. The structure
of these two poems is exact. There are six stanzas consisting of four lines each. This shows that The
Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd is responding directly to the shepherd in The Passionate Shepherd to
His Love. In each ideal proposal he gives, she gives him the realistic answer to why they cannot be
together.
Next, the speaker in The Passionate Shepherd to His Love is a young shepherd who proposes a
passionate love affair to the girl he desires. He uses nature largely to appeal to her senses. He tells her
they will sit and watch the other shepherds work and listen to the birds sing. This implies that they
will have a life of pleasure and relaxation. He says he will make beds of roses and give her fragrant
posies (Marlowe 1). He promises to outfit her in fine clothes and that she will not want for anything.
He uses all these tempting things to help his

Ontological Argument Is Not Reliant On An Posteriori
Ontological Argument Saint Anselm created the Ontological Argument . Saint Anselm was the
archbishop of Canterbury. The premise of Saint Anselm s Ontological Argument is that, no greater
being can be conceived than God. The Ontological Argument is an a priori or deductive argument. An
a priori argument does not have to be supported by real or factual evidence just by reason without
observation. Thus, the Ontological Argument is not reliant on an a posteriori premise. An a posteriori
argument is an inductive argument and usually considered to be true because of past evidence or
reasoning and rarely false. In Core Questions in Philosophy by Elliot Sober, Sober first discusses how
Saint Anselm s Ontological Argument agues the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, nothing can be imagined greater or more perfect than God. So therefore Anselm believes,
God must exist in every possible world. However, Gaunilo and Kant criticize Anselm s Ontological
Argument. First, Guanilo believes that Saint Anselm s Ontological Argument is faulty. Regardless that
the Ontological Argument is deductively valid, Gaunilo believed there must be something inaccurate
with the argument. Gaunilo used a concept of a perfect island, which he shortens to P island. Gaunilo s
counter argument is actually in the same format of Anselm s Ontological Argument, which is an a
priori argument. The theory of a P island is that no greater island can be thought of. This theory begins
the same way as Anselm starts out the Ontological Argument. By paralleling to the Ontological
Argument, that no greater being can be thought of greater than God; Gaunelos premise is that, no
greater island to be though of than P island. So furthermore, P island is the best possible island. His
first premise was, P island is the greatest possible imaginable island. Second was that, if the island
doesn t exist in the real world, it is not as perfect as an island that exists in all possible worlds. Then,
his result was that a P island is not contingent but exists necessarily. Furthermore, Gaunelo next
concluded that the two premises of the P island counter argument are true; but that it doesn t
deductively imply the conclusion. He then states that this must

Space Program Downfall
America has tossed its cap over the wall of space. John F. Kennedy
Introduction
On February 1st, 2003 seven Americans lost their lives while returning to earth after finishing a
mission for mankind. These Americans were aboard the space shuttle Challenger that broke apart
during reentry into the earth s atmosphere and was completely destroyed. After an extensive
investigation the cause of the accident was determined to be the result of a hole that was punctured
into the leading edge of the aircraft during takeoff (NASA). This hole resulted in an excess heating on
the leading edge of the wing and then the failure of the wing. This was just the physical cause of the
accident that destroyed the shuttle. There were other aspects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

From 1992 to 2001 when Daniel Goldin was NASAs administrator he brought in a torrent of changes
that both helped and hurt the program (ibid, p.105). Goldin brought opened a partnership with the
Russians with the International Space Station (ISS) in 1993, which helped ease the post Cold war era
(ibid, p.105). But Goldin also had the goal of reducing the engineering workforce that was assigned to
the Space Shuttle Program in order to move those skills to further space exploration. This was a noble
idea but without having a replacement vehicle in place prior to changing mission might have been
premature. With the facts presented in the CAIB it would seem that Goldin s leadership goal was to be
a cost effective organization while freeing up the skilled labor to focus on other endeavors while the
mundane shuttle maintenance was given to contractors. This was all part of Goldin s plan to focus
NASA s mission and strategy on select issues.
Mission and Strategy During Goldin s time as NASA s administrator he saw two primary missions.
One was to streamline NASA by conducting an administrative overhaul and the other was to focus the
organization on space exploration with the principle purpose of Mars as a destination (ibid).
Numerous reports were published as to the privatization of some NASA skill bases with contractors as
well as privatization

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Part of the torture is that the burden of guilt feels unending because you cannot undo the past
(Matsakis 119). In the book, Survivors Guilt by Aphrodite Matsakis, Ph. D, where Matsakis depicts
what and why living with PTSD is unbearable. Matsakis explains that guilt is the root of PTSD. There
is a never ending list of things to be guilty about after leaving a war, mainly; wishing you could get
the health back of the injured, get back the lives that were taken and closure with soldiers you thought
could have been saved. If the thoughts of these things could have closure and be let go, the survivor s
guilt would be surrendered. The quote, Guilt demands punishment (119), explains in such simple
terms of why the root of PTSD is guilt. If the guilt is released, then the negative thoughts, feelings of
hatred, anger and what ifs would all disappear. Addiction and abuse are two common disorders that
people often inherit while attempting to coupe with their PTSD. Alcoholism and drug abuse are
brought on by the tremendous amounts of stress and guilt felt when suffering from PTSD. The anxiety
and physiological arousal (adrenaline reactions) created by feelings of survivor guilt can play a major
role in the origin and perpetuation of any form of addiction (Matsakis 121). The high and numbness
that is associated with alcohol and drugs gives a short term relief from the guilt and pain felt from
PTSD. After the short term relief is worn off, the veterans suffering often feel

A Tale of Two Cities, A Doll s House, Brave New World
J.M. Barrie once wrote, You can have anything in life if you will sacrifice everything else for it.
Throughout this semester, the most prevalent subject that has continuously risen from conversation is
that of sacrifice. Through the three books read in class, A Tale of Two Cities, A Doll s House, and
Brave New World, one can learn that sacrifice is not a selfless thing, but a necessary part of life when
attaining something he or she feels is of greater value. In A Tale of Two Cities, written by Charles
Dickens, Sydney Carton is introduced as a lethargic alcoholic that has little interest in living. As the
story progresses, however, Dickens shows Sydney s interest in another character named Lucie. Later,
Sydney even announces his love to her before she weds another man, Charles Darnay, yet he still
continues to speak of the worthlessness of his life as the story continues. It becomes very obvious to
the reader that Lucie is the focal point of Sydney s life, and that he lives primarily in the light of her
happiness. Towards the end of the novel, Darnay is in prison and soon facing the guillotine. Sydney,
who looks stunningly similar to Darnay, takes his place and dies to ensure Lucie s happiness with
Darnay in their future. From the time he announced his love to Lucie until his death, Sydney showed
his passionate interest and care for Lucie while showing apathy for his own life. It is clear that Sydney
valued Lucie and her happiness more than his own life. Therefore, by

A Day At Home
It had been a fairly, nice day. Work wasn t to bad. My boss wasn t on my tail for not getting him a
paper on time. It was supper time when I got home. The food was already set out and the kids at the
table when I walked in the door. Jane, 9 years old, had a book in her hand like normal. Billy, 4 years
old, sat there picking at his scab. My husband came in with the last plate. Jason had been out of a job
for 9 months now, so he was the stay at home mom for a little while. I set my bag down on our
wooden table right beside the door. I walked over to the table said hi down and went to finish helping
my husband. When we were finished, I sat down to look all of my wonderful family in the eye and see
that today was a good day.
When supper was over, we sent the kids to go brush their teeth like we do every time after dinner. I
was helping my husband with the dishes after dinner. When we were done, the kids were in bed and
we had to go and tuck them in. We went and tucked Jane in. She was going to read a little before she
completely went to sleep. Jason, my Husband, left the room when he was done to use the restroom. I
then went to Billy s room to tuck him in. I sat down on the edge of the bed.
I said, How was today?
Billy replied, It was fun. We did a lot of coloring. I colored a huge bear.
Good I am glad you had fun with coloring. I said.
Mommy? Billy said.

Literary Techniques In Cormac Mccarthy s The Road
Cormac McCarthy s The Road is a post apocalyptic novel that uses a literary style that most authors
do not dare to use when writing. McCarthy s style is very mysterious, given that he doesn t give the
main character s names at any point and his use of grammar is unorthodox. The lack of quotation
marks when characters are speaking adds a certain wispy quality to the book. McCarthy s technique
unquestionably enhances the book s eerie aura; post apocalyptic novels can often be overdone or
predictable, but The Road was not.
The story is about a man and his young son traveling on a road after firestorms have scourged the
land, destroying civilization. McCarthy does an exceptional job of showing their fight for survival as

The Actions Of Vitamin D Other Than Those On Bone
Essay: Discuss the actions of Vitamin D other than those on bone.
Abstract: Vitamin D (VD) is known to be involved in absorption of calcium in the gut with deficiency
in VD playing a part in many bone related disorders like rickets and osteoporosis. Less known are the
other beneficial health effects VD may have. VD has shown to have a positive effective on the
immune system by not assisting the innate and adaptive immune response, but by also dulling the
autoimmune response. This may be important in fighting disease like TB where VD deficiency is an
issue. There also appear to be mechanisms that assist disease states such as cardiovascular disease,
cancer and diabetes that VD may assist in however these studies are inconclusive and further study is
required.

Vitamins are essential molecules needed by the body for normal growth and development
(Nlm.nih.gov, 2014). One such vitamin is the fat soluble Vitamin D (VD) which assists in the

Pneumonia
Pneumonia is an inflammation of the lung which results into an excess of fluid or pus accumulating
into the alveoli of the lung. Pneumonia impairs gas exchange which leads to hypoxemia and is acquire
by inhaling a contagious organism or an irritating agent. (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013). Fungal,
bacteria and viruses are the most common organisms that can be inhale. Pneumonia could be
community acquired or health care associated. Community acquired pneumonia (CAP) occurs out of a
healthcare facility while health care associated pneumonia (HAP) is acquired in a healthcare facility.
HAP are more resistant to antibiotic and patients on ventilators and those receiving kidney dialysis
have a higher risk factor. Infants, children and the elderly also have a higher risk of acquiring
pneumonia due to their immune system inability to fight the virus. Pneumonia can also be classified as
aspiration pneumonia if it arises by inhaling saliva, vomit, food or drink into the lungs. Patients with
abnormal gag reflex, dysphagia, brain injury, and are abusing drug or alcohol have a higher risk of

achieved through the simple narration of the story from the first person point of view of the illiterate
Nathan. The novel is also appeals to teenagers and young adults of all interests, as it the story is filled

Third Last Quality Essay
All good books must have three specific qualities. The first quality is believable characters. The
second quality is a well written plot. The third last quality is a universal theme. With Every Breath is a
novel written by Elizabeth Camden. In the novel, Kate Livingston, a young widow, is hired by Dr.
Trevor McKendall who was her competitor for a college scholarship during their high school years.
From the day of her interview, Kate learns that there are many mysteriously deep secrets hidden in her
future boss from the past years after their high school day.. After Kate gets hired, she begins to ponder
why her boss changed his last name after he graduated high school, and where he was during 1987

A universal theme is an idea that is shared around the world no matter the cultural differences.
Elizabeth Camden managed to inflict universal ideas of right of free will, loving at all times and an
individual vs. society. Both Trevor and Kate shared deep feelings for eachother. When Kate found
Trevor s devastating health documents, Trevor did not try to deny their facts. Instead, Trevor assured
that they were true. He let Kate know that his life truly could be on the line any day. Nonetheless,
Trevor promised Kate that if she would take her leap of faith in their love, then he would love her with
every breath he was given. Trevor granted Kate her right to free will. He let her decide if she would be
willing to take her risk on him by trusting God s unseen plan in their life together. I m not a good long
term bet, but I care for you He leaned forward giving her time to pull away if she chose. Whatever
Kate decided in this moment would change the course of his whole life. Before Kate made any
decision, Trevor was attempting to embed into her mind that true love isn t the love that is shared in
the good times, it s the love that s kept through the valleys and mountains of life. I love you, but you
don t know the meaning of the word. You only love when it is easy, when there are no storm clouds in
the horizon. (Camden 238) Throughout the story, Trevor has someone criticizing and threatening him
for his mistakes that he s made while treating his patients. The threats are found in newspapers and
magazines that are sold to the public. Therefore, Trevor is looked down upon in the community
surrounding him. Trevor does not back down and give up. Instead he stands up to fight the
preconceptions that society had of him until he would prove his true

Adversity in Life Elicits Unknown Talents and Strength Essay
Who we really are, what our real character is only truly elicited when we are challenged, as a proverb
states, In the darkest hour shines the brightest light. Our true character shines through when we are
pushed to our extremes and are placed in situations outside of the norm. Horace claims that when
someone is faced with an adversity or a challenge, they are more likely to discover talents that they
thought they never had. I agree with his claim that adversity breeds talents and strengthens our
character, but still understand the importance of prosperity in developing talents.
The modern world has an abundance of prosperity; many countries are now affluent. In these
prosperous circumstances talents stay hidden, but countries like Nepal, ... Show more content on

Slave Trade In The Transatlantic Trade
At the time of the Triangular trade, Britain had enhanced its interests in the Americas, and the number
of African slaves was beginning to grow. This growing interest led to the Trans Atlantic business, in
the 16th century (Radburn, 2015). The south Atlantic together with the Caribbean regions were in
great need of labor to be able to produce commodity crops and making clothes and other goods which
they would be sold back to Europe. The demand for slaves in these regions saw the Portuguese
complete the first Trans Atlantic slave voyage to Brazil by the year 1526. Other European countries
soon followed. They joined the Portuguese in establishing slave posts and ports where captured slaves
were kept waiting to be shipped overseas. Portugal required laborers to work on their sugar plantations
in their new colony in Brazil. Subsequently, there was a need for additional labor in these new
territories. Paid laborers were very expensive to pay for, thus this makes African slaves as the only
solution to develop these new colonies with their free labor. The first shipment containing African
slaves to the Americas sailed across the Atlantic Ocean was in early 1500, dominated by the
Europeans, (mainly the Portuguese), the Arabs and African merchants.
In the 17th century, European countries were vying with each other s to create colonies overseas.

Essay on The War in Vietnam
The War in Vietnam
America became increasingly involved in the war in Vietnam, mainly because of the domino theory,
the fear of the spread of communism. If South Vietnam fell to the communist the US feared that
communism would spread throughout Asia and to neighbouring countries. The influence of the
previous presidents also caused another main reason for the US to become more involved in Vietnam.
But there is one underlining fact; if the French had not left, America would not have become involved
in Vietnam at all. There are many more reasons for America to increase involvement in Vietnam, and
all of these can be listed in long and short term reasons, such as Domino theory being long term and ...

What Eisenhower wanted was to hit Communism at source, the domino, which was Vietnam. There
was already domino s which fell, China fell (turned communist) in 1949, and communism had also
spread to the western side of the world, just 90 miles off America, in Cuba under Fidel Castro. Cuba
was being supplied by the USSR, who had been communist since 1917. America had been at war with
the USSR (the Cold War) in fear Communism spreading. With other countries (like Cuba) turning
communist, it gave Russia more power. It was a competition of ideology, which system worked best;
communism or democracy. The USSR supplied Cuba with Nuclear Missile s; this sparked the Cuban
Missile Crisis, which proved the Domino Theory and the need to prop up Vietnam (the domino) to
stop it falling and communism spreading. The Soviet s had already expanded through Europe, the
whole of Eastern Europe falling to communism, Churchill said, An Iron Curtain has drawn over
Europe . This gave a reason for America to increase involvement in Vietnam, to stop another domino
falling.
Aside from the Domino Theory, another main reason why America got involved was because of the
French Exit in Vietnam. The main point for this reason is that if the French hadn t left Vietnam
America wouldn t have to get involved at all. When the French left, it left a void in Vietnam, that USA

Before making the decision of the business entity, it is important that the client understands the

Waiting For The Barbarians Analysis
Coetzee writes Waiting for the Barbarians through the point of view of the Magistrate of an unnamed
Empire. The Empire resembles a colonialist regime that views itself as both superior to and in
opposition with the neighboring barbarians. At first, the Magistrate is largely oblivious to the violence
and torture carried out by officers of the Empire, believing that Colonel Joll finds out the truth about
the barbarians (4). The Magistrate treats the line between truth and falsehood as clear and absolute,
something that can be thoroughly investigated and uncovered. However, his view changes when he
hears Colonel Joll describe that first [he] get[s] lies, you see this is what happens first lies, then
pressure, then more lies, then more pressure, then the break, then more pressure, then the truth. That is
how you get the truth (6). While the Magistrate initially believes in Joll s work, it quickly becomes
apparent that Colonel Joll is interested in a specific version of the truth. He treats the barbarian
subjects as objects and uses them as a means to an end, with the belief that truth is reached through the
application of the greatest possible pain. After extreme torture, the barbarians become willing to admit
to Joll whatever he designates as the truth and reaffirm his hypotheses. The power dynamic between
the officers of the Empire and the barbarians renders this method of discovery both immoral and
inaccurate. The novel centers around the relationship between the

Skin Cell Revelletion
Exfoliation is the key to getting skin that looks fresh, bright, and smooth.
As our skin ages, the rate of skin cell regeneration begins to diminish. The result is a dreary, dull skin
tone. Proper exfoliation is essential to retain a healthy, radiant glow. But, not all forms of exfoliation
are the same, and various skin types will need a personalized approach to exfoliation.
Most people know why it s important to routinely exfoliate skin. However, not everyone does it

People with overly sensitive skin should avoid excessive scrubbing, which can result in undue

product to a small area on your face to test for any irritation or skin sensitivities.

Agricultural Subsidies In The United States
Agricultural subsidies have existed in the United States for over a hundred years. The 1916 Federal
Farm Loan Act provided affordable loans to farmers. Several programs emerged during the New Deal
Era that supported the development of crop insurance, limited competition, production controls and
much more. A struggling finance industry in the 1980s led to an increase in the government financial
support of farms, despite calls from the Reagan administration to cut subsidies. In 1996, the Freedom
to Farm law drew away from the subsidies and support market supply and demand. However, in the
years following, Congress started to again funnel subsidies to the agricultural industry. The original
provisions of the 1996 law would have resulted in $47 billion in subsidy cost over 7 years; instead,

The Pros And Cons Of Absolutism
Absolutism, a form of government where the rulers word is law. All aspects are decided by the one in
charge and his word is absolute. In this form of government the ruler will typically have trusted
advisers but besides simple recommendations they have no real power. An absolute government has
all aspects such as religion, political standing and economy decided by its ruler.
In 1961 thomas hobbes wrote that the passions that incline men to peace are the fear of death. When a
man wants something he can fight and take a chance to get it. Most men fear that chance as they may
die and lose everything, but the thought of coming out on top is enough to encourage these actions in
individuals. These individuals can incite others who would have normally turned down the challenge.
In a case when the odds are not in favor of those goals set by an individual leading others one must not
hesitate with what must be done. Hobbes understood that if there was no concise ruler that there was a
sort of stutter when doing things taking action required to go through the proper channels. When 10
men are in control they must all agree but when only one man is in control all that must be done is let
them decide entirely.
When Bossuet talks about power he states that it must be employed with fear and self restraint as it is
a blessing bestowed upon the ruler by god. Bossuet says that the throne is not for man but a place for
man to speak the will of god. Unlike in absolutism Bosset says that these

Haroun and the Sea of Stories: Magic Meets Real World Haroun and the Sea of Stories is a children s
novel, written by Salman Rushdie, who is one of the prominent authors of magical realism in English
literature. The novel brings together real world elements and features of magic or the supernatural.
Using elements of literature such as made up words and rhyming throughout Haroun and the Sea of
Stories, Rushdie showcases why he is a distinguished author of magical realism. (Warnes) The novel
begins by introducing the city in which the main character lives. Rushdie calls it the sad city because
the citizens are so depressed, they have forgotten the city s actual name. Haroun and his parents are
the only people not depressed. Rashid, Haroun s father, is a famous story teller. The depressed citizens
solely care about facts and see no purpose in these made up stories. Haroun s upstairs neighbor, Mr.
Sengupta, is always complaining to Haroun s mother about these stories and eventually runs off with
her. This leads to the main conflict of the story, Rashid becoming so sad he forgets how to tell his

The Seven Sins Of Memory
The seven sins of memory are transience, absentmindedness, blocking, memory misattribution,
suggestibility, bias, and persistence. These are all considered failures of memory. Daniel Schacter, who
was the chair of Harvard University s psychology department, taught these rules.
The first being, Transience, transience is having an experience pass through our memory quickly. This
is related to short term memory because it not last long nor stick with us. For example, having a short
and meaningless conversation with acquaintance will usually not stay with us for a long time.
The next sin is Absentmindedness. Absentmindedness is a lack of attention given, which causes the
memory to fail. This can come from attempting to multi task or having ADD or ADHD. These cause
people to become distracted while something else is going on. Prospective memory is a major key in
absentmindedness because you are thinking about the past or future and not focusing on the present.
Blocking is another one of the seven sins which most people experience in their life and it is not as
severe. Blocking is the inability to remember information when are trying to recall it. Most people
refer to this as a Tip of the Tongue Experience . The tip of the tongue experience is an expression used
when a memory cannot be remembered, but you are very close to doing so. For example, trying to
remember something very little like a name of someone you met in the past. Blocking and Tip of the

The Problem Of Cover Songs
There is a belief in today s society that grew from the past that a cover song is merely a copy or rip off
of the original. This dilemma is discussed in an article by a man named Don Cusic, who has taught
courses in the music business industry since the year of 1982 and is known as a pioneer in music
business education. Cusic s other accomplishments and credibility come from being an historian on
country music, a scholar and writer known worldwide, author of over 209 books and 500 articles, and
having appeared on CMT programs, TNN shows, and two BBC series (Belmont University). The
reason that cover songs are an important discussion in today s society is because there is an increase
presently in cover song creation and also a steady increase of criticism on cover songs. This is due to
the creation of increasingly popular video uploading sites on the internet like YouTube, where any
person can go in, view a cover song and assert that it s bad because it isn t the original song. The
article In Defense of Cover Songs is a strong argumentative article with weak points due to providing
strong historical information on a cover song s influence on the creation of major known songs and
artists and that it conveys a weak unprofessional bias opinion from the author Cusic, who argues that
cover songs are a person s own interpretation of a song and that critics and fans should not belittle a
cover song compared to an original song. First, in the article he discusses the loss of

How Has Eastern Europe Changed After Ww2
World War One and World War Two were very tragic wars that caused over 80.5 million deaths. What
occurred after the war was amazing. The essential question that is asked is, How has Eastern Europe
changed since World War Two? Eastern Europe has changed since World War Two because, Economy,
Hitler, and because of government.
The first reason why Eastern Europe has changed is because of the economy. In 1999 after World War
Two Europe created the EU to help trading. This made it so they would be more trade because at this
time most countries were switching over to market economy. The also created the Euro. Poland was
taken over by the soviet union in World War One and forced into a command economy, but later on
became independent and switched over to a market economy. This was before Europe had created the
EU but poland wasn t the only one to switch over. Many others switched and that might of been the
influence to create the EU. Therefore that is the first way Eastern Europe has changed since World
War Two. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the reasons World War Two started was because Hitler promised more land. As you may know
Hitler is dead and his death was basically the end of the war besides the United states and Russia.
Hitler did capture a lot of land but we worked together to destroy him. The Holocaust was a reason of
World War Two. Hitler was the mastermind behind the Holocaust. He was forcing his people and
soldiers to be apart of it too. Once Hitler was dead his people were free from his reigns and able to do
good again. That is the second reason how Eastern Europe has changed since World War

Death Of Death By Radiation
Death By Radiation
Nickolas Natali
California Baptist University, College of Engineering
Abstract
WHAT:
In 1985, a Canadian built radiation treatment device began obliterating holes through patients bodies.
The Therac 25, designed and developed by AECL (Atomic Energy Canadian Limited) was an
advanced linear accelerator that could speed up electrons turning them into a high energy beam that
annihilated surface tumours on the skin, or could converted the electrons into x rays to penetrate
tumours deeper within the body. The Therac 25 was the latest and greatest version of the French
company s previous models, the Therac 6 and Therac 20. One million dollars were invested into this
machine to give radiation treatments to cancer patients. Most of the patients receiving treatment from
the Therac 25 had already endured a form of surgery to remove the majority of the tumour and were
using the Therac 25 as a means of eliminating any leftover growth. This high powered radiation
machine was controlled by a computer from a separate room to protect the operator from being
exposed to any unnecessary, moreover unwanted, doses of radiation.
As previously stated, the Therac 25 had two main functionalities: low energy and high energy. To be
clear, low energy consists of an electron beam of [roughly] 200 rads that was meant to be aimed
directly at the patient. High energy mode consisted of turning the machine to full

  • 2. Number Of Drops Of A Penny Lab Report Introduction The number of drops a penny can hold is affected by the type of liquid. Will the number of drops on the penny until it overflows change if I change the liquid from water to sodium chloride water and by how much will it change? To investigate this, there needs to be variables that are not changed when experimenting. The penny is the dependent variable because it depends on the number of drops to overflow and the drops of the liquid the independent variable as it does not change or depend. The controlled variables include using the same penny, applying the same amount of pressure on the dropper for each drop, the height of the drop that is falling onto the penny, and using the same dropper. The independent variable is changed from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this recent one, how many drops of sodium chloride can a penny hold before it overflows, it turned out to be the penny can hold 31 drops before it overflows. However these results may not be as accurate as they are supposed to be and may only be 80 percent accurate. Evaluation/Analysis The height of the liquid dropping from the dropper may have been from the same height if the hand was resting on the table/desk for each drop of sodium chloride, however the angles the liquid was dropped and where (on which part of the penny) it was dropped may make a difference in results. It may interfere with the amount of force on the water on top of the penny to cause it to move and overflow. Another error may be with the amount of liquid dispersed on the penny each time (in one squeeze of the dropper) which also associates with the amount of force exerted as the dropper was squeezed. A solution this would be to use a dropper than only disperses a certain amount of liquid at a time (the pressure or force of the squeeze does not make a difference to how much liquid is released). This would provide more accurate results and not create ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. William Faulkner s Nobel Prize Acceptance In his Nobel Prize acceptance speech renowned author William Faulkner stresses the importance of moving on and curing the human spirit. By using rhetoric Faulkner successfully gives hope to his audience making them look on the bright side and reminding authors of their power. He proves that if humanity does not move forward they will be stuck in the gefing pity of the past. William Faulkner does a very good job at using pathos to show the importance of having hope when all hope is lost. Making the point that humanity should not live under a curse (William Faulkner Nobel prize Acceptance speech), the speaker reminds the audience of a time before the war. He makes the claim that if humanity does not relearn and rebuild what was once there then the will be stuck in the same old routine. By listening to his advice the audience starts to gain a sense of hope. Faulkner also uses pathos when he says he refuses to believe that humanity is doomed; he gives them a message of rehabilitation to endure and prevail. • 5. Human Neutering And Its Effects On Humans Imagine losing the reproductive system at the age of twenty five. All humans being unable to reproduce at a certain age could save the Earth. The Earth is in a very fragile state; Earth is losing its ability to be a habitat for the human race due to the volume of people living on its surface. There could be a way to slow down this process though, through human neutering. Human neutering would decrease overpopulation, allow the earth to reproduce its natural resources, and stop deforestation from rapidly occurring. A form of human neutering does exist, and it has for a long time. This process for males is called a vasectomy, this surgery should prevent sperm from entering the seminal track. For a female it is called a Tubal ligation, this is where the flappoion tubes are pinched shut to prevent fertilization. In todays world these two surgeries are by choice and not mandatory, if these two surgeries were strictly enforced upon the human race at the age of twenty five it could save the Earth from dying early. A decreased population could result in many positive outcomes for the planet. No matter the location when a person looks straight ahead of themselves to their left, right, or behind them there is most likely another human being standing around them. The Earth is becoming overpopulated more quickly then it ever has before. Love had been defined by individuals to get close to someone who have actual feelings for or deeply care about, and one that you will actually risk your life for. The speaker urges his love to live with him and enjoy the pleasures of the day. Sir Walter Raleigh wrote a response to this poem in 1600 called The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd. He uses the nymph as the speaker, responding to the shepherd. There are no clues to the setting or the nymph s physical appearance. The themes of this poem are doubt and the point that time changes things. The nymph thinks realistically and refutes the ideas of the idyllic world the shepherd had proposed to her. The shepherd seems to be very much of an optimist, whereas the nymph is very pessimistic. The structure of these two poems is exact. There are six stanzas consisting of four lines each. This shows that The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd is responding directly to the shepherd in The Passionate Shepherd to His Love. In each ideal proposal he gives, she gives him the realistic answer to why they cannot be together. Next, the speaker in The Passionate Shepherd to His Love is a young shepherd who proposes a passionate love affair to the girl he desires. He uses nature largely to appeal to her senses. He tells her they will sit and watch the other shepherds work and listen to the birds sing. This implies that they will have a life of pleasure and relaxation. However, nothing can be imagined greater or more perfect than God. So therefore Anselm believes, God must exist in every possible world. However, Gaunilo and Kant criticize Anselm s Ontological Argument. First, Guanilo believes that Saint Anselm s Ontological Argument is faulty. Regardless that the Ontological Argument is deductively valid, Gaunilo believed there must be something inaccurate with the argument. Gaunilo used a concept of a perfect island, which he shortens to P island. Gaunilo s counter argument is actually in the same format of Anselm s Ontological Argument, which is an a priori argument. The theory of a P island is that no greater island can be thought of. This theory begins the same way as Anselm starts out the Ontological Argument. By paralleling to the Ontological Argument, that no greater being can be thought of greater than God; Gaunelos premise is that, no greater island to be though of than P island. So furthermore, P island is the best possible island. His first premise was, P island is the greatest possible imaginable island. Second was that, if the island doesn t exist in the real world, it is not as perfect as an island that exists in all possible worlds. Then, his result was that a P island is not contingent but exists necessarily. Furthermore, Gaunelo next concluded that the two premises of the P island counter argument are true; but that it doesn t deductively imply the conclusion. He then states that this must ... These Americans were aboard the space shuttle Challenger that broke apart during reentry into the earth s atmosphere and was completely destroyed. After an extensive investigation the cause of the accident was determined to be the result of a hole that was punctured into the leading edge of the aircraft during takeoff (NASA). In the book, Survivors Guilt by Aphrodite Matsakis, Ph. D, where Matsakis depicts what and why living with PTSD is unbearable. Matsakis explains that guilt is the root of PTSD. There is a never ending list of things to be guilty about after leaving a war, mainly; wishing you could get the health back of the injured, get back the lives that were taken and closure with soldiers you thought could have been saved. If the thoughts of these things could have closure and be let go, the survivor s guilt would be surrendered. The quote, Guilt demands punishment (119), explains in such simple terms of why the root of PTSD is guilt. If the guilt is released, then the negative thoughts, feelings of hatred, anger and what ifs would all disappear. Addiction and abuse are two common disorders that people often inherit while attempting to coupe with their PTSD. Alcoholism and drug abuse are brought on by the tremendous amounts of stress and guilt felt when suffering from PTSD. The anxiety and physiological arousal (adrenaline reactions) created by feelings of survivor guilt can play a major role in the origin and perpetuation of any form of addiction (Matsakis 121). Throughout this semester, the most prevalent subject that has continuously risen from conversation is that of sacrifice. Through the three books read in class, A Tale of Two Cities, A Doll s House, and Brave New World, one can learn that sacrifice is not a selfless thing, but a necessary part of life when attaining something he or she feels is of greater value. In A Tale of Two Cities, written by Charles Dickens, Sydney Carton is introduced as a lethargic alcoholic that has little interest in living. As the story progresses, however, Dickens shows Sydney s interest in another character named Lucie. Later, Sydney even announces his love to her before she weds another man, Charles Darnay, yet he still continues to speak of the worthlessness of his life as the story continues. It becomes very obvious to the reader that Lucie is the focal point of Sydney s life, and that he lives primarily in the light of her happiness. Towards the end of the novel, Darnay is in prison and soon facing the guillotine. Sydney, who looks stunningly similar to Darnay, takes his place and dies to ensure Lucie s happiness with Darnay in their future. From the time he announced his love to Lucie until his death, Sydney showed his passionate interest and care for Lucie while showing apathy for his own life. Our true character shines through when we are pushed to our extremes and are placed in situations outside of the norm. Horace claims that when someone is faced with an adversity or a challenge, they are more likely to discover talents that they thought they never had. I agree with his claim that adversity breeds talents and strengthens our character, but still understand the importance of prosperity in developing talents. The modern world has an abundance of prosperity; many countries are now affluent. In these prosperous circumstances talents stay hidden, but countries like Nepal, ... This growing interest led to the Trans Atlantic business, in the 16th century (Radburn, 2015). The south Atlantic together with the Caribbean regions were in great need of labor to be able to produce commodity crops and making clothes and other goods which they would be sold back to Europe. The demand for slaves in these regions saw the Portuguese complete the first Trans Atlantic slave voyage to Brazil by the year 1526. Other European countries soon followed. They joined the Portuguese in establishing slave posts and ports where captured slaves were kept waiting to be shipped overseas. Portugal required laborers to work on their sugar plantations in their new colony in Brazil. Subsequently, there was a need for additional labor in these new territories. Paid laborers were very expensive to pay for, thus this makes African slaves as the only solution to develop these new colonies with their free labor. • 30. Waiting For The Barbarians Analysis Coetzee writes Waiting for the Barbarians through the point of view of the Magistrate of an unnamed Empire. The Empire resembles a colonialist regime that views itself as both superior to and in opposition with the neighboring barbarians. At first, the Magistrate is largely oblivious to the violence and torture carried out by officers of the Empire, believing that Colonel Joll finds out the truth about the barbarians (4). The Magistrate treats the line between truth and falsehood as clear and absolute, something that can be thoroughly investigated and uncovered. However, his view changes when he hears Colonel Joll describe that first [he] get[s] lies, you see this is what happens first lies, then pressure, then more lies, then more pressure, then the break, then more pressure, then the truth. That is how you get the truth (6). While the Magistrate initially believes in Joll s work, it quickly becomes apparent that Colonel Joll is interested in a specific version of the truth. He treats the barbarian subjects as objects and uses them as a means to an end, with the belief that truth is reached through the application of the greatest possible pain. After extreme torture, the barbarians become willing to admit to Joll whatever he designates as the truth and reaffirm his hypotheses. The power dynamic between the officers of the Empire and the barbarians renders this method of discovery both immoral and inaccurate. The novel centers around the relationship between the ... In this form of government the ruler will typically have trusted advisers but besides simple recommendations they have no real power. An absolute government has all aspects such as religion, political standing and economy decided by its ruler. In 1961 thomas hobbes wrote that the passions that incline men to peace are the fear of death. When a man wants something he can fight and take a chance to get it. Most men fear that chance as they may die and lose everything, but the thought of coming out on top is enough to encourage these actions in individuals. These individuals can incite others who would have normally turned down the challenge. In a case when the odds are not in favor of those goals set by an individual leading others one must not hesitate with what must be done. Hobbes understood that if there was no concise ruler that there was a sort of stutter when doing things taking action required to go through the proper channels. When 10 men are in control they must all agree but when only one man is in control all that must be done is let them decide entirely. • 39. The Seven Sins Of Memory The seven sins of memory are transience, absentmindedness, blocking, memory misattribution, suggestibility, bias, and persistence. These are all considered failures of memory. Daniel Schacter, who was the chair of Harvard University s psychology department, taught these rules. The first being, Transience, transience is having an experience pass through our memory quickly. This is related to short term memory because it not last long nor stick with us. For example, having a short and meaningless conversation with acquaintance will usually not stay with us for a long time. The next sin is Absentmindedness. Absentmindedness is a lack of attention given, which causes the memory to fail. This can come from attempting to multi task or having ADD or ADHD. These cause people to become distracted while something else is going on. Prospective memory is a major key in absentmindedness because you are thinking about the past or future and not focusing on the present. Blocking is another one of the seven sins which most people experience in their life and it is not as severe. Blocking is the inability to remember information when are trying to recall it. Most people refer to this as a Tip of the Tongue Experience . The tip of the tongue experience is an expression used when a memory cannot be remembered, but you are very close to doing so. Cusic s other accomplishments and credibility come from being an historian on country music, a scholar and writer known worldwide, author of over 209 books and 500 articles, and having appeared on CMT programs, TNN shows, and two BBC series (Belmont University). The reason that cover songs are an important discussion in today s society is because there is an increase presently in cover song creation and also a steady increase of criticism on cover songs. Death Of Death By Radiation Death By Radiation Nickolas Natali California Baptist University, College of Engineering Abstract WHAT: In 1985, a Canadian built radiation treatment device began obliterating holes through patients bodies. The Therac 25, designed and developed by AECL (Atomic Energy Canadian Limited) was an advanced linear accelerator that could speed up electrons turning them into a high energy beam that annihilated surface tumours on the skin, or could converted the electrons into x rays to penetrate tumours deeper within the body. The Therac 25 was the latest and greatest version of the French company s previous models, the Therac 6 and Therac 20.
