Tonight I Can Write the Saddest Line Pablo Neruda, one of the most popular and prolific poets
during the twentieth century was born in July 12, 1904, Parral, Chile and died in September 23,
1973. Tonight I can write is a poem that he wrote at the age of twenty expressing his feeling about
a lost love and writing his saddest lines for it. The main theme, is the opening created by lost love
in a horrible universe. The two thoughts of love and life are tangled together in Neruda s poem.
The verse falls into his spirit due to the immense night, more immense without her. The night wind
spins and sings and the stars shudder, so that on this night he can compose the saddest lines.
Because he is feeling that he lost her so tonight he will write his saddest lines.

The area of Sharpeville is a township area that is located between Vanderbijlpark and Vereeniging
in southern Gauteng. These two locations are two large industrial cities where steel and coal is
mined and produced. On our trip to this area we saw, smelled and experienced the difference in
pollution from this area compared to where we live in Pretoria/Gauteng. Pretoria or Johanneburg
isn t an industrial area that s why it shouldn t be as polluted but it isn t only the mines and factories
contributing to the increase in air pollutionbut also the burning of refuge and coalas well as waste
pollution in the industrial area. We visited Sharpville and surrounding areas (see map) in the
month of February in order to collect the samples and primary data that we needed to prove our
hypothesis and to conduct our research. Before we went to collect our samples we had multiple
talks and were given journals to help prepare us for the trip.

The 17th and 18th centuries were a period in Europe where the country was driven by agriculture.
New ideas and technologies were invented which led to an increase in crops leading to The British
Agricultural Revolution. As a direct result of the crop yields, small landowners weren t able to
profit therefore leaving their farms and migrating to smaller cities where they mostly worked in
factories. This led to the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in Europe. Although there are many
changes that took place during the 17th and 18th centuries, the increased crop yields came about in
part because of new advances such as the Northfolk Crop Rotation, The Rotherham Plow, the seed
drill, and enclosure which negatively affected small farmers by increasing production which meant
less farmers were needed to supply the population. However, positive effects such as less
competition and increased profits benefited large landowners and ultimately led to the industrial
revolution.
The Northfolk Crop Rotation dramatically affected crop production in Europe. This system allowed
for farmers to make better profits. It replaced the older three course rotation with a four course
rotation. In the first season, farmers would plant clover which the livestock would eat. The farmers
would then sell the healthy animals on the market and begin growing wheat which would also be

in further as I kept reading. I wanted to read the book because I heard that is was exceptional from
several people including friends and family. As I kept reading I began to learn more about Walls
story, and I became intrigued to know what was to come. I believe that the author chose to share
her story because it shows why she is who she is today. She uses her voice well in order to relate
to others in a way that shows that when times become difficult not to lose hope because there can
be a pleasant ending. Walls writing style is very descriptive
