2. Favorite Genre? This questionnaire consisted of 30 boys answering A questionnaire on favorite music genre as well as The stereotypes and typical conventions of the Genre.

3. Most Attractive? 55% of 30 people thought that the VIBE magazine is more attractive due to the technique of anchorage as the article links to the artists costume e.g. straight jacket and the articles title “is Tupac crazy?” ✔ VS

4. What Attracts You To A Magazine? What Price? Image was the most important aspect of a magazine front cover. Most people found that imagery is the key feature that would make them want to buy the magazine. Colour was also a key aspect that attracted people to the magazine. Price still has to be recognized as the target audience want their moneys worth. Most people also expected a music magazine to be valued around £3.00. If I chose to make it a higher price their would need to be more content and more exclusive features such as interviews with famous artists.

6. The questionnaire gave me quantitative data. I also conducted an interview with several peers in my 6form of which I gathered qualitative date. The answers of these interviews helped determine what target audience I would choose and also what things I should include in my magazine.

7. What Genre Do You Like And Why? I conducted an random opportunity sample of people in my common room. There was a wide variety of genres but the most Popular was selected in the graph. “Other” consists of mainly pop. Each person had their own opinion on why they liked that certain genre. Hip Hop the main reasons were for the bass and the semantic lyrics. Rock because of the talent on the guitars and R&B because of the vocals. As I am doing a Hip Hop magazine I was specifically looking at why they liked the genre. As people said the “heavy bass” this gave me an idea about what the Hip Hop genre perceives. The lyrics are usually of an adult content and include ideas such as crime, money and women, stereotypically the people that liked the lyrics were all males. This gave me an idea that the Hip Hop genre is stereotyped for men and may be “too violent” for women. The “parental advisory” logo is recognized on all Hip Hop albums, this may give youths a relationship with the artists as they relate to the idea of crime

8. What Would You Expect A Magazine Layout To Consist Of? Mostly all people that participated in the interview had the same ideas. The typical conventions of a music magazine front cover consist of a professional photograph of a music artist or an associate celebrity in the music industry. They also said a large logo of the magazine and “exclusive” articles written around the outside of the photo to put emphasis on the photo. They also said essentials such as price, date, issue number and barcode. Due to all participants saying the same thing this gave me the impression that there is almost a guideline you have to follow as it has become the norm

11. Target Audience The interview helped determine what audience my magazine would target. Most people said in the interview said that the Hip Hop industry targets predominantly teenaged males in which I followed their opinion, due to the stereotyped “immaturity” and “anti-social” behavior of teenagers I think that is why they are attracted to the genre as it is commonly linked with crime, guns, cars and women of which boys are commonly stereotyped to like. Although Hip Hop artists are commonly associated with crime, they are ranked in the A social status due to their high income. I have targeted ABC1 in which I am able to reach most “classes” of society.
