Mind Maps/Brainstorms
Star by using the first few slides to create mind
maps and or brainstorms for ideas related to
your project. Get as many possibilities as you
can.
Don’t worry about practicality, suitability or
potential at this stage. You will assess the ideas
later.

Assessing ideas
Now you have generated lots of potential ideas, it is
time to rationalise those against the requirements of
the brief from your client.
Use the next few slides to consolidate your ideas and
then assess them against the requirements and
constraints of the project.
Finally, select an idea to take forward for further
development.
Idea 1
• The business I am making business cards for are called H&G Blundell they are farmers and hauliers
specialising mainly in large machinery movement, they also lead corn, wheat and barley.
• The business card they want me to make must include contact details such as a name, phone number
and address.
• My idea is to put a picture of there most liked truck on the business card because its an ex Eddie
Stobart truck and it’s a quite well known the registration number PX58 BNB, they have more than one
truck but this ones well known and it’s what truck spotters look for.
• Also my idea is to have it printed on a rectangular piece of card for a simple formal look.
• The colour scheme for these cards would be the same as the truck blue and white with coloured text
which stands out from the truck so its clear and easy to read, for example the colours red or yellow
because they will stand out against blue and white.
• The font choice I am thinking for these business cards is something bold and clear to read something
that stands out from the background which will be the truck because of the truck has writing on the
side.
This font has a drop shadow
which could potentially be a
good idea because it looks
good and makes the text
stand out that little bit more
Evaluation of idea
What do you like about the idea?
I like the idea to put a picture of there most well known liked truck on as people
will recognise it for example truck spotters, other farmers and hauliers.
Does it match what the client wants?
My idea positively matches what the client wants as they are looking for a simple
design and my design is to do a rectangular shaped business card because it’s
simple and formal.
Are you capable of delivering this?
I think I am capable of delivering this as they want something really simple which
obviously I can do because it’s not that challenging of a design that there wanting.
Can you do this on time?
I can do this in a suitable amount of time they have given me no time limit but I
think ill be able to get this business card design done in an appropriate amount of
time
Do you have the resources available to do this?
I have all the resources available to me that I need for example a computer with
Photoshop which I have at college and a camera which I have at home.
Idea 2
• My second idea is to do another business card with there other low loader truck on, with
has the registration CD03 WAD, the reason this is my second idea is because it’s not there
most well known truck but it is eye-catching to people as it has lots of lights on and it’s the
truck they have which looks the best. And this is also the truck which is out the most which
more people will see.
• I am also thinking instead of doing a rectangular business card, I could do an outline of the
truck for the shape of the card, but if I do this I need to really think about where I am going
to put the text/information which the clients wanting on the card for example phone
numbers, names, and address details.
• The font will need to stand out on the truck and the truck has a sticker on which is text, so
I'm going to have to use a bold font and a specific colour which will be shown on the
business card rather than the truck in the photo for the background of the card.
• I will probably use similar colours and fonts as I've said for idea number one because their
trucks are all the same colours blue and white so I'm going to need to use fonts black, yellow
or red to make the text stand out on the business cards.
These are potential font types
that I will be using to create
these business cards as they are
clear and easy to read.
Evaluation of idea
• What do you like about the idea?
• - I like the idea of using the truck which is out the most and also the one with the most lights
on because it could be quite nice to have all the lights on in the picture for the business
cards, I also like the idea of doing the cards in the shape of the truck rather than a rectangle,
because its more fun and can be more appealing than plain rectangle ones.
• Does it match what the client wants?
• - The client wants a business card with specific details on and a picture of the truck with the
low-loader trailer on and loaded with a digger or something on because they move
machines, but I think it could be quite nice to do something different for them and
experiment with the card in the shape of the truck I think it could match what there asking
for as long as it contains the details in which they are wanting on the cards.
• Are you capable of delivering this?
• - I am capable of delivering this as I could get lots of images from them and use them to
create this business card and I could also take my own images of what there wanting, and
there not wanting loads of information either its mainly just an image and a tiny bit of
information which wouldn't’t be so hard to do.
• Can you do this on time?
• - I think I can generally do this in an ok amount of time as the client has not given me a
specific deadline which is good because I have time to create the best business card for them
and their business
• Do you have the resources available to do this?
• I have all the resources I need available to me to do this at college for example Photoshop I
could use at college.
Idea 3
• For the third idea I am thinking about doing a double sided business card that has more
information on the back, possibly about other work that they do rather than just
focussing on low loader work because they lead corn, wheat and barley to and I think
having a business card that has all the information that the business actually does can be
a good thing because people will then see the business as been a lot more bigger and
better.
• They are also farmers which could be incorporated onto the business card to show that
they are more than just truck drivers.
• The colour scheme for this business card will be blue and white because of the truck
because that’s the colours of the truck and then I will have to use yellow, black or red to
make the text stand out from the picture.
I could use black text and do a yellow
drop shadow to make the text clear
and easy to read
I will use clear fonts
that are easy to
read
Evaluation of idea
• What do you like about the idea?
• - I like the idea of having more information on the business card especially information about
all the work that they do rather than just what they specialise in because it can create more
work for them if people know everything that they do which means a greater income and
more business.
• Does it match what the client wants?
• - it doesn't’t match all the clients requirements but I think they will still be happy with it
because its all their requirements and more than what they wanted, for example more
information about their other work they do.
• Are you capable of delivering this?
• - I am capable of delivering this as I have no set deadline from the client, and its pretty simple
what there wanting other than I want to put some more bits of information on.
• Can you do this on time?
• -I can do this on time, the client has given me no specific deadline which is good because
there not rushing for business cards doing which means I can take my time and create them
something good.
• Do you have the resources available to do this?
• -I have all the resources available to me, to be able to do this there are computers with
Photoshop on at college which I will be using.
Idea Evaluation
Which of your ideas do you want to develop further? Explain why you think that is
the right idea to take forward.
The idea that I want to develop further is idea 2 where I have said about having the
shape of the business card cut out in the shape of the truck/trailer, the reason being
that I think this idea is different and fun, because there son drives for them and he’s
into stuff like that so I think he would love these business cards for him and his truck
and then the idea 1 the more formal ones for the owner of the business and his truck.
I think I will have time to develop both of these ideas and then my client has a choice
of two very different ideas and can choose which they like best and which they want
to use. I also want to create and develop both of these ideas because they have asked
me to do something really easy and simple which I can do but I also want to show
them what else I can do and what else they could potentially have for a business card
because they might like my idea better.
Development
Use the next slides to document your idea development.
This should include mood boards and other visual examples of work. It
could include basic mock ups of your vision for the project using the
work of others.
If you are taking doing something outside of your ordinary skill set or
way of working, you could include test work or practice work here too.
There is room to develop a second idea here as well. This could give
you a greater variety of options to give to your client.
You will then assess your developed idea against the constraints of the
project before producing a final treatment.
Developed Idea 1
This is a business card which is already
created, which has a similar to look to what
I’m wanting to create, something with a
background image of a truck and then text
which stands out.
Developed Idea 2
Assessment of final ideas
Suitable for audience?
My final idea is suitable or the audience, as they appeal to all ages who are farmers, hauliers and truck drivers,
the style of these business cards will appeal to all these people because the style and theme of them is simple
and sophisticated.
Suitability for client?
My product of business cards will be very suitable for the client because they have told me what they want
therefor I am creating what they specifically want with all the information they have given me to include on the
cards.
Appeal of the work:
My work is a simplistic theme, and it will appeal to the audience, because it has a picture of a truck and trailer
on with a tractor on the trailer which will appeal to the audience also because it’s a simple design.
Timescales for production:
The timescale for this production is manageable and I will get it all done on time, I will have a final business
card designed for the client for the deadline date.
Costs:
There wont be any costs to cover for my work as I am taking my own images of there trucks which are at home,
I don’t need to travel far to the location, however I will need to get to college to use the computers as they have
Photoshop on which doesn’t cost me.
Personnel:
I am working alone in this project, I don’t need anyone else to help me.
Assessment of final ideas
Legal and ethical issues:
There are no legal or ethical issues within my work, there is no copyright issues because
I will be using my own images in which I will be taking of their trucks with there
permission to do so, meaning that I will not get sued or the business because the images
are from myself only, I am not going to be using images from elsewhere.
Research
Competition/Market research:
Who is in competition with your client?
My client is H&G Blundell and they are in competition with Metcalfe farms.
http://www.metcalfefarms.com
Metcalfe Farms heavy haulage ltd offer tailored heavy haulage solutions and are one of the fastest
growing heavy haulage companies in Europe.
Metcalfe farms haulage Ltd start with planning and logistics, they hire highly skilled drivers and staff, they
offer a complete project management package, including site to site service to anywhere in the world.
Metcalfe farms provide a cost effective solution for the movement of customers goods, within the
timescale they require.
- Large Modern Fleet
- Full Logistics Planning
- Project Management
- International
- Abnormal Loads
- Out Of Gauge Loads
- Ultra Heavy Haulage (over 150 tons)
They use modern, high output machinery for helping people do their land for example they have
experiences combine and sprayer drivers and other drivers who can drive allsorts with all the
qualifications needed, they offer loads of agricultural contracting from forage harvesting, arable services,
beet, potatoes, round baling, muckspreading, mucking out and leading, slurry spreading and excavators.
They also offer storage for all clients equipment.
What is their design/photography/marketing/promotional/advertising work like?
They have a main website which is clear to find your way around it and also easy to see what's
what for example they have sections on there haulage and then sections on farm & Holsten's,
their photography on the website the images of the trucks and tractors and there land is really
good because they often have people who truck spot them on bridges on motorways and they
take really good images of their trucks which they can use for their website, the website was
deigned by Rob Metcalfe and because its his own business and website he knows what the
website needed to have on it which is why its good and full of information which clients need to
know or may want to know before working with the Metcalfe's.
There are lots and lots of images of Metcalfe farms trucks and the people in action doing work
on their website and online on google because their company is big and popular people are
always taking photos of them and their trucks.
What wider market is your client part of? Undertake research in to that market. This could be in the
form of sales figures, audience figures, turnover, job roles, customer base, market share, rules,
regulations and codes of practice.
My client is part of the logistics and haulage market/business, the job roles involve truck driving and
accountancy work doing all the paper work and sorting out the bills and the money situation.
They have to follow certain rules and regulations, the truck drivers have to follow rules that they can
only drive no more than 11 hours in a 14 hour period following a rest period of 10 hours. They cant work
for more than 70 hours within any period of 8 consecutive days.
They also have to follow rules when they are transporting machinery epically wide loads because this
sort of work can be dangerous if not carried out properly and safely following all the rules, regulations
and codes of practice,
https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/411
093/safetyloadsonvehicles.pdf
On this website it tells you all the codes and practice to do with trucks and truck driving sections 4 to 7 is
mainly to do with my client “ Anchorage points” the table shows the weights and loads.
Section 1.14 (High Loads) states that particular attention should be paid to the dangers of high
loads that need to get under bridges or any other structures across roads, because this has
resulted to injuries and lorry drivers been killed.
Section 1.5 All vehicles with an overall traveling height above 3 meters must have the maximum
height of the vehicle in feet and inches displayed inside the cab so its clearly visible to the driver.
(regulation 10 of the road vehicles (construction and use) regulations 1986 as amended by S.I.
1997 No 530)
1.16 Any vehicle fitted with high level equipment that is capable of exceeding a height of 3
meters must be fitted with a visual warning device. This device must tell the driver if the
equipment has been left in the extended position. (regulation 10A of the road vehicles
(construction and use) regulations as amended by S.I. 1997 No 530)
Section 3 (Choice of vehicle)
3.1 it is the vehicles operators responsibility to provide suitable vehicles and securing
equipment for each load carried and to ensure that drivers and loading staff are competent and
have received sufficient instruction in its use. It’s the drivers duty to check and insure that the
load is adequately secured at all times, not just at the start of the journey. This is especially true
after violent maneuver such as heavy breaking or swerving. It should be noted that with certain
bad materials such as aluminum, frictional forces helping to restrain the load could be lower
than expected.
The main codes of practice which apply to my client
Audience/Customer research:
Who is the audience or customer that your client is trying to reach? Perhaps they have
already told you. Perhaps you should ask. You could also do further research in to the type
of audience or customer you are hoping to appeal to.
The audience/customer that my client is trying to reach is other famers and hauliers like them
selves, they need to appeal to farmers because they specialise in plant and machinery
movement and these types of machines that they move are found on farms or need to be
taken to farms.
Content research:
This should take the form of secondary research (exiting products from your client and the
competition and wider market) and also some primary research (asking potential audience,
your client and your market,) to help you formalise the content of your project.
My client don’t have business cards or a website because the people they appeal to expect just
to be able to pick up a phone and ring them, rather than having to go through bookings through
websites as my client do a lot of work picking up tractors and machines that have broken down
so there on call all the time.
Treatment:
The treatment evokes how an audience will experience what you are making.
Write in the active-voice in present tense. Tell the reader what they will see.
Describe the content of your project.
Write vibrantly, so the reader gets excited about your work. They should be able to
visualise the finished pieces. You could also supplement this with some mood boards or
mock ups.
Be specific—don’t use words like may, might or possibly.
Treatment
I am creating business cards for my client, I intend to do a simple but good design which
includes contact information such as a phone number, name and address.
I will also be taking pictures of the clients trucks so that there is no copyright issues, this will
be fun and enjoyable for the client as they can park the trucks somewhere nice with a nice
scene in the background in order to get the best image this is also good because the client
will have a range of images of the trucks which they can potentially use.
I am also going to use a clear and bold font because the text needs to stand out because
their trucks have text on them so this text on the business card needs to stand out.
The business cards will appeal to other farmers and hauliers just like the people my clients
are because they want to appeal to similar people because that’s the audience who’s
interested in their work.
Treatment (visual elements)
Timescales:
You should prepare a production schedule that will allow you to manage your time over
the 3 weeks of production. This should include:
• Deadlines: Interim deadlines help you keep on track, final deadlines are final.
• Availability: The availability of the client and any other people you may need to help
you with your project. You will need to contact them. You might to do visit. You may
need to liaise with models, or photographers.
• Feedback: This is a working brief with a real client. You will need to get feedback on
your work and also allow yourself time to make appropriate changes. Plan appropriate
time in to you schedule so that you can do this.
• Resources: You should include a list of resources that you will need to complete your
project. Remember that this all needs to be your own work
Production Schedule
3 weeks of production
Week 1: gather up potential ideas and start mocking up
Week 2: start and finish the clients business cards
week 3: gather feedback and make any adjustments
Evaluation
Finding my client
To begin with I emailed a range of different businesses that I fancied working with, I thought
about the products I wanted to actually make my self, and I emailed a few
people/businesses.
I got a response from H&G Blundell and I got the owner of the business to fill out a brief for
me to tell me what they would like creating for them and their business.
The client only wanted business cards making which I thought was good so I decided working
with them would be a good opportunity.
After finding my client I spoke to them about what they wanted making and what their ideas
were, I went on to do mood boards and mind maps of a range of potential ideas to help me
when creating their final product.
I researched and looked at other products that similar businesses have, I looked specifically at
the design work in which other businesses had because I wanted to look at the competition
which is out there in order to create my client something good and appropriate for their type
of business.
I sent my client a range of ideas that I had in mind I sent them a brief to fill out which they
filled in for me which then gave me a broader idea of their product that they wanted creating
for them and their business.
Evaluation
Working With The Client
Evaluation
Managing the project
I personally feel that I have managed this project well as I have managed to communicate to
my client, I have also produced work which they are actually now using, which from this I
know that I have managed this project well because a business is using my business cards
that I have created for them which is a really good feeling of success.
I have also managed the time well as I have managed to impress my client in getting the
product ready on time for them, I have also managed within the 2 weeks of production
schedule.
Evaluation
Requirements of the brief
My clients brief was very simplistic and easy but its what they wanted because of who they
are and been the sort of business that they are, the requirements of the brief weren't to hard
which meant that I could positively give them what they wanted creating and this also meant
that they were happy with the outcome because its what was written on the brief.
The main requirements were to include a background image of one of their most popular and
well known trucks and they specifically wanted to have a name, address and phone number
included on the business cards.
Evaluation
Legal (copyright), regulatory (ASA) and financial perspective
With this brief it was clear to see why any issues would crop up for example copy right issues
from using images of their trucks because truck spotters often take really good images on
motorway bridges of their trucks which I like and which I thought would be good for the
business card but I knew the issue with using these already existing images would be a
copyright issue so I decided to use my own camera and take my own images with the
permission and the approval from the business owner (my client).
I did not have to worry so much about a budget because I had my own resources to help for
example my camera and car to get to location so it didn’t add any additional costs on to
anything and it didn’t cost the business anything either.
Evaluation
Communication with my client
I managed to communicate well with my client as we had back and fourth emails and also met
up a couple of times to discuss the brief and the product they wanted making.
Bellow are a couple of screenshots of emails I have managed to keep from emailing my client.
The client says in the email that I am good to work with which makes me feel positive that I
did a really good job during this project because I managed to communicate and work
professionally.
Evaluation
From doing this project and my clients brief, I have learnt how to work with people and
businesses in order to create them a suitable product good enough that they can use, I
have gained experience in working with people who own businesses which want
products making such as business cards which will help me in the future because this is
what I want to do and from this I now know what is required and how the industry
works.
My client said that I was professional and that I am good to deal with/work with which is
positive and makes me feel that I have succeeded which means I am more confident for
the future working with other people.
Final product
Evaluation I decided to make my client another card
because the one I made which they specifically
wanted is a bit boring with not a lot on it as
you can see on the previous slide.
I sort of ignored what they wanted because I
had already done that on the other card which
they did say the liked but now I have created
this one which I think looks better they like this
one too and in fact they would like this one
printing to use now.
The image for the back of the card is a picture
of a corn field because that’s what my client
grow they grow and lead corn, and as for the
logos at the top on the front of the business
card they are logos of tractor and machinery
brands that they move.
I created the business card in Photoshop, I used a picture they had from one of their
trucks which I thought looked good, I then used the internet to find images of logos
of big machines and tractors that they move and put these near the top because
other farmers and hauliers would like to see what sort of machines they move.
I then began to add text, the businesses name and contact details, I put the name
and what they do in blue to make it stand out, then near the bottom I put the
contact details in black because I didn’t want too much information to be the same
colour.
I wanted the business card to have another side
so I used a picture of a corn field because that’s
what they grow and lead, corn.
The top and the bottom images are both
different I decided to go with the bottom one
because of the blue sky and how I set the text
out, it looks a lot better than the first one I
created.
I have added in extra information on this side of
the card saying what else the business does
which I think is interesting and useful for other
people to know, for example other farmers
because there likely to give this business jobs of
moving big machinery.
I also decided to create them a logo, for this I used a picture of corn and letters from
there names, I'm happy with the outcome of this its different and goes with who
they are and what they do it represents them.
I have also done my client a website mock up as this was something they did not have, that I
thought would be a good idea for them to have so I have created a mock up which they like, I
think they will gain more business from having a website because it can have all the
information that they need on it and more.
This is the finished mock up bellow.
I have used this image which I took
myself of one of my clients trucks in
the website mock up, I put the
image in photoshop and used the
quick selection tool to remove the
background, I also used the polygon
lasso tool to remove parts of the
background which were very close
to the truck around the tyres this
was quite tricky and time
consuming, but I got there and
when I was happy with the result I
saved the image as a PNG with no
background because I wanted to be
able to put it on the website which
I have done and it looks good.
Similar to the previous
slide, I have taken a picture
of one of my clients trucks
and removed the
background out, with this
image I have also removed
the digger out of it
because I didn’t want it in
as I just wanted the image
of the truck like the other
images previous I have
done because these
images are for the website.
Requirements of the brief
My clients brief was very simple quick and easy, I created them exactly what they wanted and
what they had asked for with no input from my self, and they did like the product and have
handed a few of the business cards out which other farmers and hauliers like however I had
time left as It didn’t take me long to do what they wanted at all, so with the spare time I had
left I created them another business card which in my opinion is far better than the first
because it includes more details of other people who work for them and it is double sided, I
also created them a logo which I have included in the website mock up I have made for them as
they don’t have a website and its not something they are particularly interested in but because
I had time left I thought I could maybe create a mock up and see what they think because it
could help them to increase on clients and increase on incomes to due more work because
people will be able to go online and search for things similar and there website could come up
which could benefit them, I have showed my client the business card I have made for them and
they do really like it and would rather have the one with my ideas to print out and use instead
and a website is something they are going to keep looking into because they like the mock up I
have created.
Overall the requirements were very simple and with the time I had left I have managed to
create them something they are actually happier with.

Evaluation of idea •What do you like about the idea? • - I like the idea of using the truck which is out the most and also the one with the most lights on because it could be quite nice to have all the lights on in the picture for the business cards, I also like the idea of doing the cards in the shape of the truck rather than a rectangle, because its more fun and can be more appealing than plain rectangle ones. • Does it match what the client wants? • - The client wants a business card with specific details on and a picture of the truck with the low-loader trailer on and loaded with a digger or something on because they move machines, but I think it could be quite nice to do something different for them and experiment with the card in the shape of the truck I think it could match what there asking for as long as it contains the details in which they are wanting on the cards. • Are you capable of delivering this? • - I am capable of delivering this as I could get lots of images from them and use them to create this business card and I could also take my own images of what there wanting, and there not wanting loads of information either its mainly just an image and a tiny bit of information which wouldn't’t be so hard to do. • Can you do this on time? • - I think I can generally do this in an ok amount of time as the client has not given me a specific deadline which is good because I have time to create the best business card for them and their business • Do you have the resources available to do this? • I have all the resources I need available to me to do this at college for example Photoshop I could use at college.

Idea 3 • Forthe third idea I am thinking about doing a double sided business card that has more information on the back, possibly about other work that they do rather than just focussing on low loader work because they lead corn, wheat and barley to and I think having a business card that has all the information that the business actually does can be a good thing because people will then see the business as been a lot more bigger and better. • They are also farmers which could be incorporated onto the business card to show that they are more than just truck drivers. • The colour scheme for this business card will be blue and white because of the truck because that’s the colours of the truck and then I will have to use yellow, black or red to make the text stand out from the picture. I could use black text and do a yellow drop shadow to make the text clear and easy to read I will use clear fonts that are easy to read

Evaluation of idea •What do you like about the idea? • - I like the idea of having more information on the business card especially information about all the work that they do rather than just what they specialise in because it can create more work for them if people know everything that they do which means a greater income and more business. • Does it match what the client wants? • - it doesn't’t match all the clients requirements but I think they will still be happy with it because its all their requirements and more than what they wanted, for example more information about their other work they do. • Are you capable of delivering this? • - I am capable of delivering this as I have no set deadline from the client, and its pretty simple what there wanting other than I want to put some more bits of information on. • Can you do this on time? • -I can do this on time, the client has given me no specific deadline which is good because there not rushing for business cards doing which means I can take my time and create them something good. • Do you have the resources available to do this? • -I have all the resources available to me, to be able to do this there are computers with Photoshop on at college which I will be using.

Idea Evaluation Which ofyour ideas do you want to develop further? Explain why you think that is the right idea to take forward. The idea that I want to develop further is idea 2 where I have said about having the shape of the business card cut out in the shape of the truck/trailer, the reason being that I think this idea is different and fun, because there son drives for them and he’s into stuff like that so I think he would love these business cards for him and his truck and then the idea 1 the more formal ones for the owner of the business and his truck. I think I will have time to develop both of these ideas and then my client has a choice of two very different ideas and can choose which they like best and which they want to use. I also want to create and develop both of these ideas because they have asked me to do something really easy and simple which I can do but I also want to show them what else I can do and what else they could potentially have for a business card because they might like my idea better.

Development Use the nextslides to document your idea development. This should include mood boards and other visual examples of work. It could include basic mock ups of your vision for the project using the work of others. If you are taking doing something outside of your ordinary skill set or way of working, you could include test work or practice work here too. There is room to develop a second idea here as well. This could give you a greater variety of options to give to your client. You will then assess your developed idea against the constraints of the project before producing a final treatment.

Assessment of finalideas Suitable for audience? My final idea is suitable or the audience, as they appeal to all ages who are farmers, hauliers and truck drivers, the style of these business cards will appeal to all these people because the style and theme of them is simple and sophisticated. Suitability for client? My product of business cards will be very suitable for the client because they have told me what they want therefor I am creating what they specifically want with all the information they have given me to include on the cards. Appeal of the work: My work is a simplistic theme, and it will appeal to the audience, because it has a picture of a truck and trailer on with a tractor on the trailer which will appeal to the audience also because it’s a simple design. Timescales for production: The timescale for this production is manageable and I will get it all done on time, I will have a final business card designed for the client for the deadline date. Costs: There wont be any costs to cover for my work as I am taking my own images of there trucks which are at home, I don’t need to travel far to the location, however I will need to get to college to use the computers as they have Photoshop on which doesn’t cost me. Personnel: I am working alone in this project, I don’t need anyone else to help me.
  • 16.
Assessment of finalideas Legal and ethical issues: There are no legal or ethical issues within my work, there is no copyright issues because I will be using my own images in which I will be taking of their trucks with there permission to do so, meaning that I will not get sued or the business because the images are from myself only, I am not going to be using images from elsewhere.

What is theirdesign/photography/marketing/promotional/advertising work like? They have a main website which is clear to find your way around it and also easy to see what's what for example they have sections on there haulage and then sections on farm & Holsten's, their photography on the website the images of the trucks and tractors and there land is really good because they often have people who truck spot them on bridges on motorways and they take really good images of their trucks which they can use for their website, the website was deigned by Rob Metcalfe and because its his own business and website he knows what the website needed to have on it which is why its good and full of information which clients need to know or may want to know before working with the Metcalfe's. There are lots and lots of images of Metcalfe farms trucks and the people in action doing work on their website and online on google because their company is big and popular people are always taking photos of them and their trucks.

What wider marketis your client part of? Undertake research in to that market. This could be in the form of sales figures, audience figures, turnover, job roles, customer base, market share, rules, regulations and codes of practice. My client is part of the logistics and haulage market/business, the job roles involve truck driving and accountancy work doing all the paper work and sorting out the bills and the money situation. They have to follow certain rules and regulations, the truck drivers have to follow rules that they can only drive no more than 11 hours in a 14 hour period following a rest period of 10 hours. They cant work for more than 70 hours within any period of 8 consecutive days. They also have to follow rules when they are transporting machinery epically wide loads because this sort of work can be dangerous if not carried out properly and safely following all the rules, regulations and codes of practice, https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/411 093/safetyloadsonvehicles.pdf On this website it tells you all the codes and practice to do with trucks and truck driving sections 4 to 7 is mainly to do with my client “ Anchorage points” the table shows the weights and loads.

Section 1.14 (HighLoads) states that particular attention should be paid to the dangers of high loads that need to get under bridges or any other structures across roads, because this has resulted to injuries and lorry drivers been killed. Section 1.5 All vehicles with an overall traveling height above 3 meters must have the maximum height of the vehicle in feet and inches displayed inside the cab so its clearly visible to the driver. (regulation 10 of the road vehicles (construction and use) regulations 1986 as amended by S.I. 1997 No 530) 1.16 Any vehicle fitted with high level equipment that is capable of exceeding a height of 3 meters must be fitted with a visual warning device. This device must tell the driver if the equipment has been left in the extended position. (regulation 10A of the road vehicles (construction and use) regulations as amended by S.I. 1997 No 530) Section 3 (Choice of vehicle) 3.1 it is the vehicles operators responsibility to provide suitable vehicles and securing equipment for each load carried and to ensure that drivers and loading staff are competent and have received sufficient instruction in its use. It’s the drivers duty to check and insure that the load is adequately secured at all times, not just at the start of the journey. This is especially true after violent maneuver such as heavy breaking or swerving. It should be noted that with certain bad materials such as aluminum, frictional forces helping to restrain the load could be lower than expected. The main codes of practice which apply to my client

Audience/Customer research: Who isthe audience or customer that your client is trying to reach? Perhaps they have already told you. Perhaps you should ask. You could also do further research in to the type of audience or customer you are hoping to appeal to. The audience/customer that my client is trying to reach is other famers and hauliers like them selves, they need to appeal to farmers because they specialise in plant and machinery movement and these types of machines that they move are found on farms or need to be taken to farms.
  • 23.
Content research: This shouldtake the form of secondary research (exiting products from your client and the competition and wider market) and also some primary research (asking potential audience, your client and your market,) to help you formalise the content of your project. My client don’t have business cards or a website because the people they appeal to expect just to be able to pick up a phone and ring them, rather than having to go through bookings through websites as my client do a lot of work picking up tractors and machines that have broken down so there on call all the time.
  • 24.
Treatment: The treatment evokeshow an audience will experience what you are making. Write in the active-voice in present tense. Tell the reader what they will see. Describe the content of your project. Write vibrantly, so the reader gets excited about your work. They should be able to visualise the finished pieces. You could also supplement this with some mood boards or mock ups. Be specific—don’t use words like may, might or possibly.

Treatment I am creatingbusiness cards for my client, I intend to do a simple but good design which includes contact information such as a phone number, name and address. I will also be taking pictures of the clients trucks so that there is no copyright issues, this will be fun and enjoyable for the client as they can park the trucks somewhere nice with a nice scene in the background in order to get the best image this is also good because the client will have a range of images of the trucks which they can potentially use. I am also going to use a clear and bold font because the text needs to stand out because their trucks have text on them so this text on the business card needs to stand out. The business cards will appeal to other farmers and hauliers just like the people my clients are because they want to appeal to similar people because that’s the audience who’s interested in their work.

  • 27.
Timescales: You should preparea production schedule that will allow you to manage your time over the 3 weeks of production. This should include: • Deadlines: Interim deadlines help you keep on track, final deadlines are final. • Availability: The availability of the client and any other people you may need to help you with your project. You will need to contact them. You might to do visit. You may need to liaise with models, or photographers. • Feedback: This is a working brief with a real client. You will need to get feedback on your work and also allow yourself time to make appropriate changes. Plan appropriate time in to you schedule so that you can do this. • Resources: You should include a list of resources that you will need to complete your project. Remember that this all needs to be your own work

Evaluation Finding my client Tobegin with I emailed a range of different businesses that I fancied working with, I thought about the products I wanted to actually make my self, and I emailed a few people/businesses. I got a response from H&G Blundell and I got the owner of the business to fill out a brief for me to tell me what they would like creating for them and their business. The client only wanted business cards making which I thought was good so I decided working with them would be a good opportunity.
  • 30.
After finding myclient I spoke to them about what they wanted making and what their ideas were, I went on to do mood boards and mind maps of a range of potential ideas to help me when creating their final product. I researched and looked at other products that similar businesses have, I looked specifically at the design work in which other businesses had because I wanted to look at the competition which is out there in order to create my client something good and appropriate for their type of business. I sent my client a range of ideas that I had in mind I sent them a brief to fill out which they filled in for me which then gave me a broader idea of their product that they wanted creating for them and their business. Evaluation Working With The Client
  • 31.
Evaluation Managing the project Ipersonally feel that I have managed this project well as I have managed to communicate to my client, I have also produced work which they are actually now using, which from this I know that I have managed this project well because a business is using my business cards that I have created for them which is a really good feeling of success. I have also managed the time well as I have managed to impress my client in getting the product ready on time for them, I have also managed within the 2 weeks of production schedule.
  • 32.
Evaluation Requirements of thebrief My clients brief was very simplistic and easy but its what they wanted because of who they are and been the sort of business that they are, the requirements of the brief weren't to hard which meant that I could positively give them what they wanted creating and this also meant that they were happy with the outcome because its what was written on the brief. The main requirements were to include a background image of one of their most popular and well known trucks and they specifically wanted to have a name, address and phone number included on the business cards.
  • 33.
Evaluation Legal (copyright), regulatory(ASA) and financial perspective With this brief it was clear to see why any issues would crop up for example copy right issues from using images of their trucks because truck spotters often take really good images on motorway bridges of their trucks which I like and which I thought would be good for the business card but I knew the issue with using these already existing images would be a copyright issue so I decided to use my own camera and take my own images with the permission and the approval from the business owner (my client). I did not have to worry so much about a budget because I had my own resources to help for example my camera and car to get to location so it didn’t add any additional costs on to anything and it didn’t cost the business anything either.
  • 34.
Evaluation Communication with myclient I managed to communicate well with my client as we had back and fourth emails and also met up a couple of times to discuss the brief and the product they wanted making. Bellow are a couple of screenshots of emails I have managed to keep from emailing my client. The client says in the email that I am good to work with which makes me feel positive that I did a really good job during this project because I managed to communicate and work professionally.
  • 35.
Evaluation From doing thisproject and my clients brief, I have learnt how to work with people and businesses in order to create them a suitable product good enough that they can use, I have gained experience in working with people who own businesses which want products making such as business cards which will help me in the future because this is what I want to do and from this I now know what is required and how the industry works. My client said that I was professional and that I am good to deal with/work with which is positive and makes me feel that I have succeeded which means I am more confident for the future working with other people.

Evaluation I decidedto make my client another card because the one I made which they specifically wanted is a bit boring with not a lot on it as you can see on the previous slide. I sort of ignored what they wanted because I had already done that on the other card which they did say the liked but now I have created this one which I think looks better they like this one too and in fact they would like this one printing to use now. The image for the back of the card is a picture of a corn field because that’s what my client grow they grow and lead corn, and as for the logos at the top on the front of the business card they are logos of tractor and machinery brands that they move.
  • 38.
I created thebusiness card in Photoshop, I used a picture they had from one of their trucks which I thought looked good, I then used the internet to find images of logos of big machines and tractors that they move and put these near the top because other farmers and hauliers would like to see what sort of machines they move. I then began to add text, the businesses name and contact details, I put the name and what they do in blue to make it stand out, then near the bottom I put the contact details in black because I didn’t want too much information to be the same colour.
  • 39.
I wanted thebusiness card to have another side so I used a picture of a corn field because that’s what they grow and lead, corn. The top and the bottom images are both different I decided to go with the bottom one because of the blue sky and how I set the text out, it looks a lot better than the first one I created. I have added in extra information on this side of the card saying what else the business does which I think is interesting and useful for other people to know, for example other farmers because there likely to give this business jobs of moving big machinery.
  • 40.
I also decidedto create them a logo, for this I used a picture of corn and letters from there names, I'm happy with the outcome of this its different and goes with who they are and what they do it represents them.
  • 41.
I have alsodone my client a website mock up as this was something they did not have, that I thought would be a good idea for them to have so I have created a mock up which they like, I think they will gain more business from having a website because it can have all the information that they need on it and more. This is the finished mock up bellow.
  • 42.
I have usedthis image which I took myself of one of my clients trucks in the website mock up, I put the image in photoshop and used the quick selection tool to remove the background, I also used the polygon lasso tool to remove parts of the background which were very close to the truck around the tyres this was quite tricky and time consuming, but I got there and when I was happy with the result I saved the image as a PNG with no background because I wanted to be able to put it on the website which I have done and it looks good.
  • 43.
Similar to theprevious slide, I have taken a picture of one of my clients trucks and removed the background out, with this image I have also removed the digger out of it because I didn’t want it in as I just wanted the image of the truck like the other images previous I have done because these images are for the website.
  • 44.
Requirements of thebrief My clients brief was very simple quick and easy, I created them exactly what they wanted and what they had asked for with no input from my self, and they did like the product and have handed a few of the business cards out which other farmers and hauliers like however I had time left as It didn’t take me long to do what they wanted at all, so with the spare time I had left I created them another business card which in my opinion is far better than the first because it includes more details of other people who work for them and it is double sided, I also created them a logo which I have included in the website mock up I have made for them as they don’t have a website and its not something they are particularly interested in but because I had time left I thought I could maybe create a mock up and see what they think because it could help them to increase on clients and increase on incomes to due more work because people will be able to go online and search for things similar and there website could come up which could benefit them, I have showed my client the business card I have made for them and they do really like it and would rather have the one with my ideas to print out and use instead and a website is something they are going to keep looking into because they like the mock up I have created. Overall the requirements were very simple and with the time I had left I have managed to create them something they are actually happier with.
