Most Agile teams learn the ceremonies and other Agile jargons sooner than we could imagine.They add few meetings to their project execution and talk in a fancy language that would make us believe in Agile utopia. Everything seems fine and happy, until one day their happy bubble bursts and they realize that they are just 'doing' Agile and not 'being' Agile. One primary culprit here is that the teams often neglect their core technical practices and don't challenge their status quo. Which means they don't change anything about the way they design, code or test but just modify their management processes and await a miracle. There are three primary reason why we observe this Agile smell in most teams. It is believed that there are no immediate results in modifying these practices, its is hard to change the existing practice because of umpteen man-made reasons and finally no one knows where to begin their journey. Here in this talk I would like to address the third challenge and explain how a (non-technical) coach could pair with the team members on their day-to-day activities and help them initiate this journey. The focus of this presentation is on the do's and don'ts while pairing with the team members. It will also explain the benefits of this exercise.

The ninth principle from the Agile Manifesto states that technical excellence enhances agility, but when the codebase is ugly and the deadlines are tight, most teams don’t choose to refactor mercilessly, adopt TDD, or evaluate automated testing tools—unless they have the proper support. Documenting architecture design decisions is commonly considered a good practice and yet many teams don't take the time to write down the decisions they make. In our experience this happens for a few reasons: documentation is rejected as being too heavyweight, documentation has little influence since it is typically out of sight and out of mind, and many developers don’t know what to document. Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) address many of these problems by capturing design decisions in a simple, lightweight templates that is stored close to repositories used by stakeholders -- often in the same repository as code affected by the ADR. In this hands-on workshop you will learn how to write effective ADRs and how to overcome road bumps teams often experience when first getting started with ADRs. By the end of this session you will have the skills you need to champion ADRs and help your team start (or improve) your design decision log.

There are many theories and ideas around "how to become a social business" but what really does or doesn't work? We wanted to know, and instead of just going blindly with the theory, we did the opposite and interviewed 32 companies in various stages of their journey to becoming a social business. Not just asking them about the big wins, but also talking about the struggles and small successes that really made the difference for them. Taking these experiences and real life examples of companies the likes of Dutch Railways, DAF, Saxion, Forbo Eurocol and Bavaria, and aligning them to the various theoretically relevant concepts, we were able to come up with some interesting concepts. SharePoint functionality: To Build or to Buy? Let's ask Pareto!

SharePoint is the complete solution for collaboration, document management and sharing knowledge across our organisation, and even beyond. It will drive our business!" For the last ten years it was this that message IT-departments used to get budget-approval to implement the platform we all know and love (and yes, sometimes hate). The reality is though that lots of companies struggle to get beyond using it as an intranet or document file storage. What happened to our promise to cover not just the 'sharing' and 'storage' part but really enhance our business processes with specific functionality tailored to the collaborative working? Like HR who needs functionality to support annual reviews, quality control who wants to monitor key performance indicators or the support departments who want to gauge customer satisfaction? "No problem!", most IT departments standard Pavlov reaction to these request was: "we'll build it ...!" But that takes lots of time, money and can cause massive delays which often also begs the question: isn't there another way? Aren't we inventing the wheel when others surely have already done so? In this session Femke Goedhart and André Krijnen will discuss the intricacies and challenges of deciding when to make a standard solution fit (non-standard) business requirements and when to build your own. Taking you from how to handle the familiar "but that won't fit OUR organization!" arguments to figuring out the pragmatic factors that are really important in taking such a decision. To show you how, we will take several real-life customer scenarios through a decision matrix based on the 80/20 principle of Vilfredo Pareto that can help you determine whether to go 'Build' or 'Buy and Extend'. It will give you handles and tips on how to guide a decision process that is often difficult and can touch nerves but that, in the long run, can help you really fulfill that initial goal: creating a true collaboration platform.

Folksonomy versus Taxonomy, Social Document management in IBM Connections: With the rise of social business and platforms like IBM Connections, many companies are re-evaluating their document strategies. Ideals of employee-driven sharing, tagging and folksonomies are desired, but is all documentation really suited for the freedom of ‘social’? Do some types require more structure, process and control? If so, how do you determine this and integrate it with your social ambitions? This session will cover the principles of document management and social file-sharing and explain how the newly announced IBM Connections Content Manager fit into that, what it means and what it will add to Connections.
