Cause And Effect Of The Spill
On the Easter Sunday of March 24, 1989 an oil tanker destined for Long Beach, California was
stopped short of its destination when it struck the Prince William Sound s Bligh Reef (PWS). In
charge of the ship was Captain Joseph Jeffrey Hazelwood. It was reported that Captain Hazelwood
was not at the bridge of the ship during the incident. Furthermore he was accused of alcohol
intoxication that might have contributed to the event. This event caused a catastrophic oil spill that
resulted in 11 million gallons of crude oil spreading throughout the ocean. At that time, it was
considered the largest oil that had ever happened in the United States, hence, it was expected to
have devastating effects on the ecology and the different species living... Show more content on

In charge of the ship was Captain Joseph Hazelwood. At the time of the time incident,
Hazelwood was reported to be in his stateroom while leaving Third Mate Gregory Cousins in
charge. This led to the failure of the ship to return to the shipping lanes and eventually thrashing
through the Bligh Reef. Although Captain Hazelwood was accused and charged of alcohol
intoxication while on duty, Captain Hazelwood was acquitted of that charge, instead the state
charged him with a misdemeanor negligence. This misdemeanor gave Hazelwood a $50,000 fine
and 1000 hour of community service. Nearly twenty seven years ago is when the event took
place and yet there are still thousands of gallons of oil that pollute the beaches near Prince
William Sound. The oil found in the beach still has it adverse effects on the ecosystem near the
shore. Although, observations have led for most to believe that natural removal of the oil will
take place overtime, a decline in the rate of oil removal have proved them otherwise. From 1989 to
1992, the annual rate for natural oil removal was at 80%, the following years of 1989 to 2001 took
a staggering decline at a rate of 22%. After 2001, a mere 4% rate was all that was left to defend the
oiled shore of Prince William Sound. Efforts to clean the oil proved to be difficult due to its remote
location and reachable only by air and sea

Essay Breast Cancer
Breast Cancer Breast cancer is a disease that is becoming more and more popular in this day of
age. One in every eight women is diagnosed with breast cancer (Breast Cancer, 2010). Women and
men who suffer from breast cancer not only are fighting cancer but are also fighting the
psychological aspects of the disease. Breast Canceris the second most diagnosed cancer among
women in the United States right behind skin cancer. Women are now surviving breast cancera lot
more frequently because of the treatments out there to help. In 2008, the number of breast cancer
survivors was 2.5 million (Breast Cancer, 2010). The numbers of survivors is an increasing state

The physician may order a mammogram or ultra sound. Women are recommended to have
yearly mammograms after the age 40, but earlier if breast cancer runs in the family (National
Cancer Institute). A mammogram detects lumps in the breast and is an x ray picture of tissues
inside a person s breast. It may detect a lump before it is even felt by someone. A ultrasound also
is a test that can show details of the breast lump and its sound waves creates pictures showing if
the lump is solid, filled with fluid or a little of both. When it shows a sign of a more solid lump
it is greater risk of cancer (National Cancer Institute). Once a breast lump is detected and shows
signs of being cancerous the lump is then removed or biopsied. Biopsy is a tissue removal which
is looking for cancerous cells. There are several different types of biopsies, but is the true way to
tell if these cells in the breast are cancerous. These different types of biopsies are fine needle
aspiration, core biopsy, skin biopsy or surgical biopsy. After the tissue is removed then they can
send it to the lab to determine if a person has cancer or not (National Cancer Institute). The lump
will then be considered either benign or malignant. Benign is good meaning no cancer present, but
malignant means that there is cancer present in the tumor. After determining that a person has
breast cancer it must then be staged.

The Role And Responsibilities Of The Nurse
As the nurse leader progresses through the strategic planning process, he or she must take into
consideration the financial costs and timeline required to implement their strategic plan.
Developing an operational budget and a realistic timeline are critical elements in ensuring the
strategic plan is successfully implemented (Lee Jones, 2004). Financial Resources For many years
now, healthcare organizations in Canada have faced financial challenges as a result of lower
healthcare spending and increased expenses (Canadian Institute for Health Information, 2014,
para.1). Therefore, before the introduction of any new initiative, the nurse leader must ensure the
change does not bring any financial hardship to the organization and resources are used in a cost
effective manner (Marquis Huston, 2015). For this planned change, there is no financial cost with
revising the role and responsibilities of all the Nurse Clinicians and the existing budget is the
financial resource that will cover the cost of adding another Nurse Clinician The largest financial
aspect of this planned change is the salary of the new Nurse Clinician. In this case, when creating
another role the nurse manager has to ensure the change will be cost neutral to the organization,
meaning the addition of one Nurse Clinician will have no impact on the overall budget. To
accomplish this, the nurse manager responsible for the Clinicians explained that when the unit
assessors were doing the MDS, every unit in

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Edward Murrow s Speech
In any type of society, speeches have a great impact on the public audience and their views on
different issues. Especially in a dystopian world, sometimes what the people need is a speech to
give them hope and motivation to encourage them to fight for what they believe in. Living in a
dystopian society in Great Britain, V struggles against the government and delivers a well though
out speechto the general public to address his main concerns. In a similar yet distinct way,
American Journalist Edward Murrow also directs a message through a radio broadcasting of his
opinions on the use of television in society. Both speeches bring revolutionary perspectives to light
and highlight the relevant problem the people are facing in that world.

towards the government: I know you were afraid. V uses a rhetorical and persuasive approach with
the use of pathos, connecting to the audience s feelings when he acknowledges their fear of
competing against the government. Comparably, Murrow also persuades his own audience by
directly calling upon their efforts to see the importance of knowledge: let us exalt the importance of
ideas and information. Murrow has a confident tone that is utilized to coerce the audience into

Under Pressure, Dubai Drops Port Deal Essay

Under Pressure, Dubai Drops Port Deal The Dubai Port World controversy began in February
2006 and rose to prominence as a national security debate in the United States. At issue was the
sale of port management businesses in six major U.S. seaports to a company based in the United
Arab Emirates, and whether such a sale would compromise port security. The controversy pertained
to management contracts of six major United States ports. The purchaser was DP World, a state
owned company in the U.A.E. The contracts had already been foreign owned, by Peninsular and
Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P O), a British firm taken over by DPW, completed in March
2006. Although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, these ports are strategic for the country, and it is better to be managed by the US Company.
Second, more US citizens will be employed. Finally, the most important factor is security. The
country will be safer when these ports are managed by Americans. The safety of the country and
support of domestic companies could have influence on the reversal of the ports deal. The US
public concerns did not have big influence on a business decision made by a Dubai company. More
influence had the political pressure. However, public concern also played its role in this case. For
example, people s opinion was that foreign states, especially those related to terrorism in the past,
could not be trusted with strategic American assets. Also, they thought that foreign countries should
not have managerial responsibilities over ports due to divided loyalties and concerns over national
independence. Accordingly, all these public opinions were reflected and expressed by the
politicians whose pressure constrained Dubai Company to withdraw. Thinking that transportation
takes place through a global network of companies is slightly incorrect. Ports are vulnerable to the
entry of terrorists or illicit weapons because of the large number of containers that enter U.S.
territory. Accordingly, no foreign government should be permitted to own such strategic assets.
There are many business assets that can be owned by foreign companies and

Essay about Importance of the Ocean in Chopin s Awakening
Importance of the Ocean in Chopin s Awakening
In Kate Chopin s novel, The Awakening, Chopin uses the motif of the ocean to signify the
awakening of Edna Pontellier. Chopin compares the life of Edna to the dangers and beauty of a
seductive ocean. Edna s fascinations with the unknown wonders of the sea help influence the reader
to understand the similarities between Edna s life and her relationship with the ocean. Starting with
fear and danger of the water then moving to a huge symbolic victory over it, Chopin uses the
ocean as a powerful force in Edna s awakening to the agony and complexity of her life.
Danger and beauty serve as Edna s first outlook on the ocean. Early in her development, Edna
observes the ocean ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The voice of the sea speaks to the soul. (14) Edna s senses are stimulated by all the sounds of the
ocean. Along with the call of the sea, Edna becomes more aware of her own self and desires,
which lead her to look within herself. As Edna s relationship with the ocean becomes more
intimate, she treats the ocean as if it were her lover and true desire. The touch of the sea is
sensuous enfolding the body in its soft, close embrace. The `dreaded fear has now converted to a
`sensuous outlook. Edna is hungry to experience all the elements of the ocean and, at the same
time, she is opening herself to exploring her inner feelings.
With her new familiarity with the sea, Edna constructs a divergent perspective of the water and
its potent force in her life. The new awareness gives Edna courage to face her fears. Instead of
depending on someone to help her in the water, she decides to start swimming by herself. This
act represents a major step in Edna s awakening to independence. One day, Edna becomes
possessed with a power that she all of a sudden realizes she has inside her. A feeling of exultation
overtook her, as if some power of significant import had been given her soul. She grew daring and
reckless, overestimating her strength. She wanted to swim far out, where no woman had swum

Dr. P, a musician and teacher who had developed visual agnosia, had difficulty processing what he

to be deceived. Dr Sacks tells us that it is the brain damaged patients who are less likely to be

Analysis Of Lemony Snicket s Series Of Unfortunate Events
Reader Response
I first read Lemony Snicket s Series of Unfortunate Events when I was 10 years old. Having little
patience, I planned to just skim through but found myself immediately immersed in the story and
the writing style. The author uses clever techniques to appeal to both children and older readers,
which allowed me to remain engaged with the text. Snicket warns that, if you are interested in
books with happy endings, you would be better off reading some other book. I found myself
attracted to the gothic elements and darker nature of the text. I found it to be uniquely different to
the traditional fairy tales with a clichГ© happily ever after . A Series of Unfortunate Eventshas no
typical happily ever after, but the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a child, I often felt frustrated that adults would not always take me seriously. I felt empowered
by the idea that perhaps I too was capable of solving my own problems as a self reliant and
independent being.
Snicket is a clever and humorous narrator. He assists the reader with more advanced words,
explaining them in their given context. As a young reader, this was very educational and helpful
and allowed me to further understand and enjoy the series. As an older reader, I came to realise
that he did this in a comedic way. For example, Snicket writes, It is now necessary for me to use
the rather hackneyed phrase meanwhile, back at the ranch. The word hackneyed here means used
by so, so many writers that by the time Lemony Snicket uses it, it is a tiresome clichГ©. Snicket
also introduces children to important concepts and ideas. He notes, your initial opinion of things
may change over time, and the children knew, as I m sure you know, that the worst surroundings
can be tolerated if the people in them are interesting and kind. He also addressed more serious
issues, acting as a moral guide, but ensured these issues were not too overwhelming by
maintaining a sense of humour. He writes, stealing is not excusable if, for instance, you are in a
museum and you decide that a certain painting would look better in your house... But if you were
very very hungry, and you had no way of obtaining money, it might be excusable to grab the
painting, take it

A Qualitative Research Assignment
Quantitative Research Assignment Music is very popular in the world. It s always changing.
They re so many different types of music: rap, pop, jazz, rock, gospel, country, and even more. They
re so many songs out in the world that has cover songs. In this paper I had to choose any song from
any genre and two covers of the original song and conduct a survey. I chose to stick with pop music
because that s what most people prefer. The song that I chose was Hello by Adele. My two covers
are made by The Animal In Me, cover one, and Leroy Sanchez, cover two. Doing the survey I will
learn how people respond to cover songs. I predict that most people would choose the second cover
song by Leroy Sanchez because it s a guy who sings and the way he sings it lets you know how he
really feels about what he s saying. Method I had to choose an original song; then find two covers

The Animal In Me made their version with the same instruments used in the original song and
they also kept the same lyrics as well. What they did to better their version, is that they made
their Hello with a little mixture of rock and pop music, instead of just pop. While the song Hello
by Leroy Sanchez was the same as the original song but was played by a male. My hypothesis
was wrong. I predicted that most people would prefer Hello by Leroy Sanchez rather than the
one by Adele or The Animal In Me. I thought people would chose Leroy version because it s a
softer version of Adele, but because The Animal In Me was something different then what you
would normally hear, that s why most people chose them instead. The reason why some covers
disappoint listeners is because most artist just remake the song just the way it was originally was
instead of changing it up to something new and

The Effect of World Heritage Site Designation on...
1.Introduction
The city of Bath has become a World Heritage Site (WHS) since 1987, identified as a place of
outstanding universal value for its architecture, town planning, landscape, archaeological remains
and its role as a setting for social history , which is a unique WHS in Britain covering the whole
city scale instead of only historic core part (UNESCO, 2009).
Following the inscription of Bath from UNESCO (2009), which is astonishingly, undertaken with

2.2Changes in Local community
2.2.1Overcrowding and local people s life
Poria(2013) claims that some of the currently designated WHS, since they are recognized as part
of heritage, an increase in demand explosion and tourist boost would be happened. Visitors
normally attracted and associated by the iconic words World Heritage Site, and treat this site as a
culturally famous and major significance to world (Tucker, 2010). Therefore, the status of
overcrowding in Bath has drawn people s attention.
In order to balance the distance between the increasing tourism demand and the carrying capacity
in Bath, the living cost in bath has to increase, the local surrounding tends to be crowded. WHS
designation attracts more and more visitors to Bath, at the same time, it is creating troubles for
residents or people who need to living in Bath (Poria,2013).
The increasing popularity pressure could not only make house price, living cost increase, but also
lead to the heavy tourism traffic. As one of the symbols of modern tourists, most joyful travels
possibly rely on cars (Howard, 2003). This change could also be a challenge for Bath tourism,
which is hard to spare enough space for affording the increase parking

Gateway Drug Definition
Is marijuana a gateway drug? This question has been asked throughout today s society many
times. When you ask this question you first must define what a drug is, then ask what is a
gateway drug and what characteristics does a drug must have, to be qualified as one. Then you
must go on and look at what exactly marijuana is and its characteristics. This argument over
whether it is or not is very important. Since people think it s a gateway drugpeople are against it,
when it is very useful in medical conditions. Marijuana is not a gateway drug, in fact it may be a
gateway out of hardcore drugs. A drug is typically a medicine but can be other substances that can
be harmful for your body. Businessdictionary.com tells us the definition for a drug is Natural or

Jesus Christ Superstar Analysis
I think the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar gained much attention because it appealed to youth,
but appalled the older generation because of its rock theme and interpretations. After all, some
believed the theme went against the grain of the church (Bible) and how people viewed it. The
brilliance in this opera was to tell the story of JesusChrist using rock music to tell the complete
story of Jesus Christ from beginning to end by providing a synopsis of the story as was told in the
Bible. There are a ton of excerpts from this opera that related to events happening in the 70s. The
three themes that I chose are fame, revolution and radicalism, and humility
Fame
Jesus Christ was the ultimate Superstar! It only took him three years to amass thousands of
followers. In Act 1 Simon Zealotes makes reference about the crowds of people who seek his
attention. Christ you know I love you. Did you see I waved? Touch me, touch me, Jesus. Kiss me
kiss me, Jesus. As you can imagine, as his glamour increased among the people, it would
eventually lead to social upheaval with both the Romans and the Jews. He was seen as both a
savior by the people and trouble to authoritarians.
The scene relates to the 70s in terms of having that rock star image with pop culture. Jesus
popularity with people and how they responded to him was like the 60s and 70s where teens
idolized Elvis and the Beetles. Also associate with Fame, especially with teens was not being

The Geology Of Ontario Through Its Rocks
Minerals are what make up Rocks and rocks are what make up the geology of an area. In this
report, we will focus on the geology of Ontario through its rocks. We will look at ten difference
rocks samples that have been collected from several different places here in Windsor Ontario
including the beach, the river, gravel pits, along highways and roadways as well in parks and
campsites. The rocks that were collected are all rocks that have formed right here in Ontario.
Canada and especially Ontario have very interesting and much filled geologic pasts. Ontario has
many types of rocks and minerals that have formed and are still forming due to the geology.
Ontario has sedimentary rocks; igneous rock, and metamorphic rock as well as minerals such as
gold, silver, quartz, and many more. In this paper, we will begin by talking about ten rocks that
were collected right here in Windsor Ontario. The rocks were examined from the outside which
tended to be weathered and the inside which were fresh.
Description of rock types:
The collection of the rocks was based on just picking up the most amount of difference looking
rocks that was possible and bringing them home to analyze. This was done for about two months
from many difference locations including campgrounds, beaches, rivers, highways as well as
construction sites. After about two months there were many rocks so I started to analyze and take
out the rocks that were of the same kind. I found many granite, basalt and conglomerate rocks.

Literature Review. Autism Overview. Autism Spectrum Disorder
Literature Review
Autism Overview Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a widely known disability that, as of 2012,
affects about 1 in 68 of children in the United States (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
2016). The exact cause of the disability is unknown, however individuals with ASD exhibit some
common characteristics. Autism belongs to heterogeneous categories of developmental
disabilities where neurological disorders lead to deficits in a child s ability to communicate,
understand language, play, develop social skills, and relate to others (Rao Gagie, 2006, p. 26).
These deficits can range in varying degrees of severity, which is why the disability is considered to
be a spectrum. Students with autism are usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many students in high school lack vocational training that could increase their future success, and
many students with disabilities are in need of extra training or exploration to help them establish
these goals (Swank Huber, 2013). IDEA states that students with disabilities should be prepared for
further education, employment, and independent living (IDEA, 2004). Although this is stated in
the law, many students with disabilities are not getting a sufficient vocational education. Students
with disabilities are required to have a transition plan in place when they are in high school.
Transition planning is critical for all individuals, with or without disabilities, and this planning
should focus on layering the foundation and providing support for transition in all aspects of adult
life (Sitlington, 1996, p. 37). Teaching vocational skills are an essential part of this transition
planning.
Students are educated, but there is a separation between vocational and academic education.
Students are more prepared for post secondary education than they are for the workforce (Gebhardt,

Secondary students with disabilities often are denied access to the broad continuum of vocational
education options because of the increased academic expectations of vocational courses, the

For centuries, same sex couples have been scrutinised and marginalised based on their sexual
orientation, however, over recent decades, movements established by same sex couples have
enticed the Australian Government to equate specific rights and privileges between homo and

the influential Christian portion of Australia, whom of which strongly oppose the concept of

Cancer can be one of the hardest battles that one must face, whether that battle is lost or won, it
changes the lives of everyone involved. Lung cancer is one of the most diagnosed cancers and it
affects the lining of the lungs and the ability to breathe. Lung cancer is the number one killer of men
and women than any other cancer worldwide. This cancer is mostly found in smokers and this is
why professionals are targeting this population for testing for diagnosing early and possibly saving

According to the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) the researchers
identified a large region on human chromosome 6 that conferred greater lung cancer risk in
families with many affected individuals. Subsequent painstaking analysis to pinpoint the source
of the elevated risk now has paid off with the identification of the precise culprit, a gene called
RGS17. Researchers conducted fine mapping of the suspect region of chromosome 6 in
members of families in which five or more individuals over multiple generations were diagnosed
with lung cancer. The region contains approximately 100 genes. Precise computational analysis
uncovered similar variants in the DNA sequence for members of the families with lung cancer.
These variants, called single nucleotide polymorphisms (or SNPS) directed the researchers to the
RGS17 gene. The conclusions of this analysis are that RGS17 plays a major role in lung cancer
susceptibility, and individuals who carry the higher risk version of this gene have an increased
susceptibility to lung cancer when exposed to environmental risk factors, such as smoking. While
the research showed that RGS17 is an important gene for lung cancer susceptibility in families with
a high incidence of lung cancer, the researchers did not see any

therefore, been compromised. Additionally, there are now clear signs of rising dissent amongst
FOMC members, something which financial markets will have noted. The 20 21 September
policy meeting released updated economic and federal funds rate projections and they indicate
that the majority of members expect just one rise in the policy rate in 2016. This constitutes a
downgraded assessment since June s forecasts when two increases were projected. Meanwhile,
expectations of rate hikes in 2017 have also been scaled back to two compared with three back in
June. Furthermore, the anticipated terminal level of the federal funds rate has been modestly
reduced to 2.875% from 3%. Given the continued projection of a long term 2% inflation target, this
implies that potential real GDP growth has been scaled back. The FOMC has duly obliged with a
downward revision to 1.8% from 2%. Last week s meeting concluded with the highest level of
dissent since 1992. Fed Chair Yellen indicated that discussion was dominated about the timing of
the next rate hike vis Г vis whether a higher policy rate was

Common Themes In Kurt Vonnegut s Harrison Bergeron
Research Harrison Bergeron In Kurt Vonnegut short story Harrison Bergeron , he shows a theme
where people are perfectly equal by normalizing everyone to the point of no freedom for the
talented. The story tells a tale that warns Americans of the dangers of creating a truly equalitarian
society in which its citizens sacrifice their individuality and freedom to the government in order to
create a place where all men are created equal. Equality is a beloved principle enshrined in
America s Declaration of Independence in the phrase All men are created equal, but Vonnegut
suggests that the ideals of egalitarianism can be dangerous if they are interpreted too literally. One
of the points that Vonnegut show is when the government is given far too much power and due to
the handicap radio the people are passive and ignorant. The... Show more content on

In the story, Harrison Bergeron is a character who is greatly restricted by the law of the

making a large display of his might by going on TV and striping off the restraint. He wanted to
show the world as to what he could have become by exclaiming that he is an emperor and making
the rest the royal and such. However after he make all that display and strip them of their handicap
and allowed them to be what they are for a moment, Diana Moon Glampers the Handicapper
General shot him to death and the main character George and his wife Hazel don t seem to recalled

Suicidal Ideation is the manifestation of inner pain, hopelessness, and helplessness suffered by
individuals. Psychiatric disorders accompany 90% of completed suicides. Patients with alcohol or
substance use disorders also have a higher suicide risk. Years of abuse and comorbidity with
depression or antisocial personality disorder are also factors are associated with increased risk.
Assessment Individuals considering suicide generally provide some indication of their thoughts,

In 1964 Gerald Caplan identified four predictable phases of behaviors;
Phase 1
Initial threat or triggering event.; A person is confronted by a conflict or problem that threatens the
self concept responds with increased feelings of anxiety. The increase in anxiety stimulates the use
of problem solving techniques and defense mechanisms in an effort to solve the problem and lower
anxiety.
Phase 2
Escalation. If the usual defensive response fails and the threat persists, anxiety continues to rise and
produce feelings of extreme discomfort. Individual functioning becomes disorganized. Trial and
error attempts at solving the problem and restoring a normal balance begin.
Phase 3
Crisis; if the trial and error attempts to fail anxiety can escalate to sever and panic levels and the
person mobilizes automatic relief behaviors, such as withdrawal and flight. Some form of
resolution may be made in this stage.
Phase 4
Personality Disorganization; if the problem is not solved and new coping skills are ineffective,
anxiety can overwhelm the person and lead to serious personality disorganization, depression,

How Did The California Gold Rush Of 1849
The discovery of gold nuggets in Sacramento Valley in 1848 sparked the California Gold Rush of
1849. Which is one of most significant events to shape American history during the first half of
the 19th century. News spread of the discovery thousands of gold miners traveled over sea or
overland to San Francisco and surrounding areas by the end of 1849. The non native population of
Californiaterritory was over 100,000, compared with the pre 1848 figure of less than 1,000. Two
billion dollars worth of precious metal was extracted from the area during the Gold Rush peak in
1852.
On January 24, 1848 James Wilson Marshall found flakes of gold in the American River at the
base of Sierra Nevada Mountains near Coloma California. The miners extracted ... Show more

All one had to do was to dig down into a placer, and wash the pay dirt. The entire gold country
was open to all. No taxes were levied on what the miners found. No towns or roads existed in the
gold country. Every miner was on his own, and nobody had to work for wages unless he wanted
to. The individualist entrepreneurial spirit that pervades California to this day was born in the
gold fields in the summer of 1848. News of gold, free for the taking, continued to spread. By the
end of summer the first gold seekers were arriving from outside California. The first immigrants
were probably from Oregon, where American farmers had been settling since the early 1840s.
Next came men from the Sandwich Islands (now Hawaii). In the autumn new arrivals were
coming from northern Mexico, and during the winter large numbers came from Peru and Chile in
South America. Still, there was plenty of gold for all, and fresh discoveries were made daily. The
immense extent of the gold deposits was becoming

Garden City And Garden City
Introduction
In late 19th, because of a dramatic increase of population, increasing urbanization and
industrialization, cities had been overcrowded and the environment was being destroyed as well.
Furthermore, more and more people moved to the urban cities from rural area for having more job
opportunities. Consequently, cities were over centralizing. It is contributed to the slums in city
which is the cause of disease breaking out. It leads to the decrease of human s life quality in urban
cities. Moudon (1997) points out that control by the private sector, unhealthy rapid economic
growth, overcrowding, poor sanitation, poor housing, weak government control, unorderly and

These cities would have adequate space of residential habitation, industrial work and agricultural
production. In order to shift people who moving to the urban cites to the suburbs, a concept of
garden city setting was coming out by Ebenezer Howard. His idea was inspired by the utopian
wave which existed from mid and the close of 19th century. Howard (1902) idealized that in
garden city, a 6,000 acre site would have 32,000 people living in. Furthermore, there was a
sustaining potential which is the limit of the population density in garden city plan, so they
would build a new garden city nearby when another city has reached the limit. In Howard s book,
there is a central city surrounded by lots of garden cities which could afford 50,000 people. Roads
and rail is the way linking those garden cities. The aim of garden city planning is to create a
beautiful, sociable and healthy communities with both a good natural environment and high quality
of housing affordability. A combination of the active and energetic city lifestyle with the delight
and the beauty of the countryside was the way to achieve it.
Moreover, in order to well organize the garden city movement, a concept of town, country, and town
country magnets was published in Howard s book. According to Howard (1902), different magnets
have different characteristics. Town magnet with refers to urban city is presenting high

Outline and evaluate Bruce and Young s theory of face...
The face recognition model developed by Bruce and Young has eight key parts and it suggests
how we process familiar and unfamiliar faces, including facial expressions. The diagram below
shows how these parts are interconnected. Structural encoding is where facial features and
expressions are encoded. This information is translated at the same time, down two different
pathways, to various units. One being expression analysis, where the emotional state of the
person is shown by facial features. By using facial speech analysis we can process auditory
information. This was shown by McGurk (1976) who created two video clips, one with lip
movements indicating Ba and other indicating Fa . Both clips had the sound Ba played over the clip.

It is also unclear if it is the brain injury itself that causes the result and if it is the same for healthy
people.
There was a study done by Young, Hay, and Ellis (1985) that uses people with no medical issues.
They asked people to keep a diary record of problems they experienced in face recognition. They
found people never reported putting a name to a face while knowing nothing else about that person.
This supports the model as it suggests that we cannot think of a person s name unless we know
other contextual information about them.
Prosopagnosia is a condition where a person cannot recognise familiar faces, but only the features,
not the whole face. The condition contradicts the model as it suggests that the process are most
likely not separate. As most patients had severe problems with facial expression as well as facial
identity, this suggests they are processed separately. The model can also be seen as reductionist,
as it only gives a vague description of what the cognitive system does. However, there is research
that does support the concept that there are two are separate paths for processing face recognition
and facial expression. One being Humphreys, Avidan, and Behrmann (2007) who studied three
participants with developmental prosopagnosia. All three had poor ability to recognise faces, but
their ability to recognise facial expressions was similar to that of healthy

The Symposium presents a philosophical discussion about love between specific historical
individuals, including well known Athenian poets and intellectuals, and the politician Alcibiades
(introduction). Each person at the symposium needs to deliver a speech that represents his idea of
love. At the end of The Symposium, Socratesexpresses his sophisticated point of view by presenting
a conversation he has with Diotima, an objective fictional character who represents his idea of love.

Using explicit logical transitions such as begin (47), next , once , after , as a result , and at last
(48), Diotima eventually leads to the highest form of love in a comprehensible and progressive
way. The word begin marks the start point of this process, which is loving beautiful bodies (47).
The phrase as a result acts as a turning point in the logical sequence where people will start to
observe beauty in practices (48). Before that phrase, Diotima illustrates the process of reaching
the best interpersonal love inside the broader perspective of approaching the highest form of love.
After that phrase, Diotima moves from interpersonal love to philosophical love, which is also the
shifting from common love to heavenly love. By indicating philosophical love is superior to
interpersonal love, Socrates shows his buttress for philosophical approach of objective truth. Using
at last , she indicates that the statement after at last will be the pinnacle of this process, which is
the highest form of love (48). This comprehensive interpretation makes Socrates arguments more
persuasive, because it shows readers how she builds on her argument step by step. Utilizing logical
sequences to build on the process of approaching the highest form of love, this examination also
sets a solid foundation for Socrates definition of the highest form of love. Through his

Extremely low and high temperatures can slow down the development of societies and
civilizations greatly. If you are living in a place with temperatures similar to the ones of The
Arctic, you will obviously have a lot of harvesting problems because of the cold and all the snow
covering the ground. Also, problems with getting around and working hard because it is too
cold to leave your home and go out are very probable. Going out to work in conditions like these,
can leave people dead or very sick with things like hypothermia. On the other hand, extreme
heats, like in places close to the equator, also slow development for very similar reasons. People
struggle to leave their houses because of extreme heat dangers like getting deep burns or even
things like skin cancer from the sun s UV rays, and may also have harvesting problems because
of how dry it is. Land forms and geography can also have an impact on the development of
societies and civilizations. If you live in an area with a lot of bodies of water, you will be granted
with things like fertile soil, easy transportation, abundant food and water supply, more animals to
hunt (fishing) and much better hygiene than for example a place in the middle of the desert. Your

Surowiecki s Social Comparison Theory
To effectively achieve the goals of political activities, everyone in the group should avoid social
comparison and keep his or her original ideas. Social comparison results in people trying to stay in
tune with the group. Surowiecki announces that It means that people are constantly comparing
themselves to everyone else with an eye toward maintaining their relative position within the group
(Surowiecki 479) Since all the people depend on each other for existence, it is inevitable to
comparing themselves to others and caring about what others think of them. People with unique
ideas which are against most of the group members beliefs, are more likely to be regarded as aliens

Surowiecki s social comparison theory can be applied to the explanation of the phenomenon
that Gladwell mentions. Gladwell writes, And the primary determinant of who showed up was
critical friends the more friends you had who were critical of the regime the more likely you
were to join the protest (Gladwell 234). A person who is an advocate of the government tends to
alter his or her idea if most of his or her friends are critical of the regime. And the more friends he
or she have who are against the authorities, the more likely he or she modifies original ideas and
pretend to think just like others in order to maintain his or her relative position in groups. Thus,
the number of critical friends determines the the possibility of joining the protest. Gladwell states a
fact that critical friends affects the process of making a political decision. On the other hand,
Surowiecki reveals the phenomenon and use the social comparison theory to it. There is no
denying that people within a group have a tendency to adapt their original ideas for the purpose of

by legal and safety requirements, while being technologically modern and reliable. These cars

As performance goes the mx5 is very light but not very powerful but when drifting a light
vehicle makes for less traction which is good for initiating a slide and maintaining is but doing a
long drift is hard to do and some come with lsd or a locking differential and you can get two
different motors for the mx5 a 1.6 liter and a 1.8 liter the hp difference is about 5hp not a lot but
it can help you some when drifting and the s14 is a heavier car but still handles good not as good
as the miata but it would beat the miata in a straight line any day a lot of s14s come with
mechanical locking differentials so both wheels turn not as good as a welded diff but it works
thee s14 is harder to drift in the small corner be cause the car has quite a bit longer wheelbase but
when going high speed and doing a long drift id does better and it can come with 3 different
types of motor the least powerful one ka24e a 4 cylinder motor with a single overhead cam and

Ransom Of Julius Caesar Research Paper
Julius Caesar is one of my favorite Greek leaders. Some of the things that he has done sound
unreal, and are very unknown. One time, in 75 B.C., he was kidnapped by pirates. He was in
his mid 20s, and had he set out from Rome for the Aegean island of Rhodes. He planned to study
with Apollonius who was a Greek rhetorician whose students had included Cicero, who became a
famous orator in Rome. However, along the way to Rhodes, Caesar s ship was hijacked by pirates
off the southwestern coast of Asia Minor. When the pirates named a ransom price for his release,
Caesar thought the number was insultingly low and told them he deserved a higher ransom be
demanded. Eventually, the higher ransom was paid and Caesar was freed. Soon after, he sought

The Historical Moment And Legend s Impact On Buddhist...
XuanZang was a legendary Buddhist monk who traveled during the post classical era from AD
627 643. He was also a Buddhologist, traveller, and promoter of culture among the nations of
Asia. Xuanzang traveled the Silk Road which is one of the largest trade routes in the ancient
world. On his long voyage that lasted him sixteen years he introduced religion, ideas, and culture
that linked China to the rest of the Kingdoms of the west. Xuanzang is considered a historical
moment and legend who s impact on Buddhist religion in China has changed their religious
customs providing manuscripts, Sanskrit text, and relics. In Xuanzang early life he was guided
by his father to read classical text. Not like most children he received a full education at a young
age being instructed by his father. He was the youngest of four children and his grandfather was
the head of the Imperial University at Beijing. By the age of eight of he was very familiar with
complicated Confucian rituals. Xuanzang father died in 611 and his older brother Chensu noticed
that Xuanzang was deeply given to the study of religious doctrine (WOTW pg 2). Chensu became a
primary influence on his life taking him to Luoyang (monastery) to teach him the basics of
Buddhism. Luoyang is where Chensu was groomed to become a monk. At the monastery Xuanzang
studied the sacred text of the Buddhist faith with all of the other young converts. At thirteen years
old Zheng Shanguo mad an exception for Xuanzang to take Buddhist

Leadership Purpose Statement
After watching this interview, I feel that a well defined leadership purpose statement is the
distinction between a good leader and a great leader. Carolyn McKnight s interview on leadership
purpose statements really opened my eyes to the power of these statements, and the time and
energy one needs to put into creating a leadershippurpose statement. At first it seemed that
completing a statement this powerful would be a very daunting task. After watching Mrs.
McKnight s interview, I am confident in my ability to come up with a statement, and that I will
have the courage to follow through with it. The most significant thing in a true leadership purpose
statement is authenticity according to Mrs. McKnight. Webster s defines... Show more content on

Our text book offers another interesting point that supports Mrs. McKnight s insights. The text
book says that mental intelligence will get you into a management position but it stops being
helpful after entry into that position. A leader needs to have good emotional intelligence to
continue to lead. Self awareness has to do with my purpose and I am working towards finding
that in this class. I know that I worry about how other people perceive me but I do not think that
is the same thing as recognizing it, which is social awareness. I think that I will have to spend
some time mastering the first two elements of emotional intelligence before I can work on self
regulation. I do not know how I can stick to a path and make corrections to get back to it, until I
have established a clear path. There were some interesting comments made about behaviors that
help us get closer to our purpose. A reflective practice of checking in twice a day was brought up.
I thought about how I might do this and I know that I would struggle with this significantly. I
worry about how honest I would be with myself, so I would have to check in with my wife or a
close friend that will keep honest with my feelings. I would have never thought that some kind of
physical activity would help me get closer to my purpose. After hearing Mrs. McKnight talk about
these practices I can see how it would help. A great example of a physical activity that can help

Myrtle Wilson Quotes
Being Tom s mistress, as her husband, George, owns a run down garage in the valley of ashes.
In F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, Myrtle herself possesses a fierce attitude and is always
looking to improve her own situation. Unfortunately this foolish character chooses Tom, who
sees her as his property instead of someone he truly desires. I told that boy about the ice. Myrtle
raises her eyebrows in despair at the shiftlessness of the low orders. These people! You have to
keep after them all the time. (Page 32) Myrtle Wilson was born into a social class she isn t proud
of, along with another character, Jay Gatsby. Her words (the text evidence quotes) matter because

. . She might have the decency not to telephone him at dinner time. Jordan Baker makes this
critical remark from Myrtles inappropriate call during Daisies dinner party. This quote is
important because even though Myrtle is just having a simple affair with Tom, she had put
herself up on this high pedestal, thinking she has every right to call up Tom anytime she pleases.
She wants to continue to feel like she belongs in that higher class along with Tom, even after
Tom pushes her around. Beat me! he heard her cry. Throw me down and beat me, you dirty little
coward! (Page 137) This quote has a lot of significances because it shows how Myrtle has no
respect for her husband, as if she truly is convinced she is in a higher class than

  • 2. Cause And Effect Of The Spill On the Easter Sunday of March 24, 1989 an oil tanker destined for Long Beach, California was stopped short of its destination when it struck the Prince William Sound s Bligh Reef (PWS). In charge of the ship was Captain Joseph Jeffrey Hazelwood. It was reported that Captain Hazelwood was not at the bridge of the ship during the incident. Furthermore he was accused of alcohol intoxication that might have contributed to the event. This event caused a catastrophic oil spill that resulted in 11 million gallons of crude oil spreading throughout the ocean. At the time of the time incident, Hazelwood was reported to be in his stateroom while leaving Third Mate Gregory Cousins in charge. This led to the failure of the ship to return to the shipping lanes and eventually thrashing through the Bligh Reef. Although Captain Hazelwood was accused and charged of alcohol intoxication while on duty, Captain Hazelwood was acquitted of that charge, instead the state charged him with a misdemeanor negligence. This misdemeanor gave Hazelwood a $50,000 fine and 1000 hour of community service. Nearly twenty seven years ago is when the event took place and yet there are still thousands of gallons of oil that pollute the beaches near Prince William Sound. The oil found in the beach still has it adverse effects on the ecosystem near the shore. Although, observations have led for most to believe that natural removal of the oil will take place overtime, a decline in the rate of oil removal have proved them otherwise. From 1989 to 1992, the annual rate for natural oil removal was at 80%, the following years of 1989 to 2001 took a staggering decline at a rate of 22%. After 2001, a mere 4% rate was all that was left to defend the oiled shore of Prince William Sound. The Role And Responsibilities Of The Nurse As the nurse leader progresses through the strategic planning process, he or she must take into consideration the financial costs and timeline required to implement their strategic plan. Developing an operational budget and a realistic timeline are critical elements in ensuring the strategic plan is successfully implemented (Lee Jones, 2004). Financial Resources For many years now, healthcare organizations in Canada have faced financial challenges as a result of lower healthcare spending and increased expenses (Canadian Institute for Health Information, 2014, para.1). Therefore, before the introduction of any new initiative, the nurse leader must ensure the change does not bring any financial hardship to the organization and resources are used in a cost effective manner (Marquis Huston, 2015). For this planned change, there is no financial cost with revising the role and responsibilities of all the Nurse Clinicians and the existing budget is the financial resource that will cover the cost of adding another Nurse Clinician The largest financial aspect of this planned change is the salary of the new Nurse Clinician. In this case, when creating another role the nurse manager has to ensure the change will be cost neutral to the organization, meaning the addition of one Nurse Clinician will have no impact on the overall budget. To accomplish this, the nurse manager responsible for the Clinicians explained that when the unit assessors were doing the MDS, every unit in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Under Pressure, Dubai Drops Port Deal Essay Giorgi Murusidze Dr. Paul Wilson MBA 580.60 November 2, 2010 Under Pressure, Dubai Drops Port Deal The Dubai Port World controversy began in February 2006 and rose to prominence as a national security debate in the United States. At issue was the sale of port management businesses in six major U.S. seaports to a company based in the United Arab Emirates, and whether such a sale would compromise port security. The controversy pertained to management contracts of six major United States ports. The purchaser was DP World, a state owned company in the U.A.E. Finally, the most important factor is security. The country will be safer when these ports are managed by Americans. The safety of the country and support of domestic companies could have influence on the reversal of the ports deal. The US public concerns did not have big influence on a business decision made by a Dubai company. More influence had the political pressure. However, public concern also played its role in this case. For example, people s opinion was that foreign states, especially those related to terrorism in the past, could not be trusted with strategic American assets. Also, they thought that foreign countries should not have managerial responsibilities over ports due to divided loyalties and concerns over national independence. Accordingly, all these public opinions were reflected and expressed by the politicians whose pressure constrained Dubai Company to withdraw. Thinking that transportation takes place through a global network of companies is slightly incorrect. Ports are vulnerable to the entry of terrorists or illicit weapons because of the large number of containers that enter U.S. territory. • 7. Essay about Importance of the Ocean in Chopin s Awakening Importance of the Ocean in Chopin s Awakening In Kate Chopin s novel, The Awakening, Chopin uses the motif of the ocean to signify the awakening of Edna Pontellier. Chopin compares the life of Edna to the dangers and beauty of a seductive ocean. Edna s fascinations with the unknown wonders of the sea help influence the reader to understand the similarities between Edna s life and her relationship with the ocean. Starting with fear and danger of the water then moving to a huge symbolic victory over it, Chopin uses the ocean as a powerful force in Edna s awakening to the agony and complexity of her life. (14) Edna s senses are stimulated by all the sounds of the ocean. Along with the call of the sea, Edna becomes more aware of her own self and desires, which lead her to look within herself. As Edna s relationship with the ocean becomes more intimate, she treats the ocean as if it were her lover and true desire. The touch of the sea is sensuous enfolding the body in its soft, close embrace. The `dreaded fear has now converted to a `sensuous outlook. Edna is hungry to experience all the elements of the ocean and, at the same time, she is opening herself to exploring her inner feelings. With her new familiarity with the sea, Edna constructs a divergent perspective of the water and its potent force in her life. The new awareness gives Edna courage to face her fears. Instead of depending on someone to help her in the water, she decides to start swimming by herself. This act represents a major step in Edna s awakening to independence. One day, Edna becomes possessed with a power that she all of a sudden realizes she has inside her. Researchers conducted fine mapping of the suspect region of chromosome 6 in members of families in which five or more individuals over multiple generations were diagnosed with lung cancer. The region contains approximately 100 genes. Precise computational analysis uncovered similar variants in the DNA sequence for members of the families with lung cancer. These variants, called single nucleotide polymorphisms (or SNPS) directed the researchers to the RGS17 gene. The conclusions of this analysis are that RGS17 plays a major role in lung cancer susceptibility, and individuals who carry the higher risk version of this gene have an increased susceptibility to lung cancer when exposed to environmental risk factors, such as smoking. After indicating in her Jackson Hole speech in late August that the case for a higher policy rate had recently strengthened, Fed Chair Yellen has flip flopped and sided with the dovish members of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC). Her credibility as an effective communicator for the entire FOMC has, therefore, been compromised. Additionally, there are now clear signs of rising dissent amongst FOMC members, something which financial markets will have noted. The 20 21 September policy meeting released updated economic and federal funds rate projections and they indicate that the majority of members expect just one rise in the policy rate in 2016. This constitutes a downgraded assessment since June s forecasts when two increases were projected. Meanwhile, expectations of rate hikes in 2017 have also been scaled back to two compared with three back in June. Furthermore, the anticipated terminal level of the federal funds rate has been modestly reduced to 2.875% from 3%. Given the continued projection of a long term 2% inflation target, this implies that potential real GDP growth has been scaled back. The face recognition model developed by Bruce and Young has eight key parts and it suggests how we process familiar and unfamiliar faces, including facial expressions. The diagram below shows how these parts are interconnected. Structural encoding is where facial features and expressions are encoded. This information is translated at the same time, down two different pathways, to various units. One being expression analysis, where the emotional state of the person is shown by facial features. By using facial speech analysis we can process auditory information. This was shown by McGurk (1976) who created two video clips, one with lip movements indicating Ba and other indicating Fa . It is also unclear if it is the brain injury itself that causes the result and if it is the same for healthy people. There was a study done by Young, Hay, and Ellis (1985) that uses people with no medical issues. They asked people to keep a diary record of problems they experienced in face recognition. They found people never reported putting a name to a face while knowing nothing else about that person. This supports the model as it suggests that we cannot think of a person s name unless we know other contextual information about them. Prosopagnosia is a condition where a person cannot recognise familiar faces, but only the features, not the whole face. The condition contradicts the model as it suggests that the process are most likely not separate. As most patients had severe problems with facial expression as well as facial identity, this suggests they are processed separately. The model can also be seen as reductionist, as it only gives a vague description of what the cognitive system does. However, there is research that does support the concept that there are two are separate paths for processing face recognition and facial expression. One being Humphreys, Avidan, and Behrmann (2007) who studied three participants with developmental prosopagnosia. A leader needs to have good emotional intelligence to continue to lead. Self awareness has to do with my purpose and I am working towards finding that in this class. I know that I worry about how other people perceive me but I do not think that is the same thing as recognizing it, which is social awareness. There were some interesting comments made about behaviors that help us get closer to our purpose. A reflective practice of checking in twice a day was brought up. I thought about how I might do this and I know that I would struggle with this significantly. I worry about how honest I would be with myself, so I would have to check in with my wife or a close friend that will keep honest with my feelings. I would have never thought that some kind of physical activity would help me get closer to my purpose. After hearing Mrs. McKnight talk about these practices I can see how it would help. A great example of a physical activity that can help ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She might have the decency not to telephone him at dinner time. Jordan Baker makes this critical remark from Myrtles inappropriate call during Daisies dinner party. This quote is important because even though Myrtle is just having a simple affair with Tom, she had put herself up on this high pedestal, thinking she has every right to call up Tom anytime she pleases. She wants to continue to feel like she belongs in that higher class along with Tom, even after Tom pushes her around. Beat me! he heard her cry. Throw me down and beat me, you dirty little coward! (Page 137) This quote has a lot of significances because it shows how Myrtle has no respect for her husband, as if she truly is convinced she is in a higher class than ...
