Life, when viewed as a compilation of fleeting memories and moments, seems chaotic, miserable and
causes one to question the purpose of it. Each of the characters of To the Lighthouse struggle with this
same realization and all strive to find permanence and meaning within their lives. While the characters
search for the meaning of life within their realms of experience, ultimately they all fail to find lasting
meaning. To the Lighthouse, a novel structured by Woolf as deeply involved in the consciousness of
the characters, their perception of meaning in the world, and the ephemeral nature of life, ultimately
suggests that although the goal of finding meaning in life is unattainable, it is the struggle for balance
and meaning that achieves purpose and self contentment. Throughout the novel, the lighthouse
symbolizes the ultimate destination, as it represents the moment the characters find the true meaning

high strength and fracture toughness [1 6]. The use of Sc (scandium) to achieve grain refinement has
recently received great attention. The microstructures and properties of aluminium alloys are strongly
affected by adding small quantities of scandium. Scandium additions in excess of 0.55wt.% (i.e.,
hypereutectic) are very effective in grain refinement, suggesting that the primary ScAl3 phase serves
as an effective grain nucleant [7 9].
The effect of a Sc addition will of course depend on the composition of the alloy. The additions of Sc
in aluminium alloy appear to reduce hot tearing and shrinkage porosity. Hot shortness increase with
increase in Zn but decrease with increase in Mg content [10, 11]. The process of precipitation in the Al
Zn Mg alloy system is quite complex. The aged structure and the kinetics of ageing depend on both
the Zn and Mg concentration and the temperatures of solution and ageing treatments. As the Sc
contents increases within the specified solubility in the solid solution, the grains virtually do not

The second stanza of Emily Dickinson s Wild Nights Wild Nights! , portrays a sense of romantic
longing between the two lovers. In this poem, there is a nautical type of scenery being displayed,
especially in the last two stanzas. This is true because, the second stanza references: compasses,
charts, seas and ports. The first line states, Futile the winds , futile meaning pointless. The narrator is
stating that no matter how hard the winds blow, or how rough the seas get, her love is strong and she is
not going anywhere. When the narrator says, To a Heart in port , it kind of creates a setting of a lovers
embrace. Every woman desires to be sought after and longed for. The narrator is no longer searching
for love, because she has found love, therefore her heart is in port or it is docked. The narrator talks
about how she is done with the compass and with the chart in the last two lines. She is giving up all
control for this person, she is free to love and to be loved. She does not need a compass or a chart
because she is not looking for anything anymore. She has found her love and her voyage is now over.

hips, is all about women s empowerment. Throughout the poem, we see this reoccurring symbol of
hips. Clifton is talking about women s hips in general, not just hers. The hips in this poem symbolize
how strong and powerful women are. How women can accomplish anything if they set their mind to
it. These three lines talk about how not every woman has a perfect body and how each of them are
different. These hips do not fit into society s standards for women. These hips are different, not

My Grandpa s fiance has to be one of the coolest and unique people that I have ever met.
She is from Rochester, NY but has been with my grandpa now for about two years and they
